Welcome to
Thai Cottage Bistro, where we bring the rich flavors and bold spices of Thailand to your table. Our innovative cuisine is rooted in authentic Thai traditions, and we can't wait to share it with you.
First time at TCB and it was so yum! I’d been looking forward to eating here since I live nearby.
My sister and I ordered the monthly special tom yum (fish) tacos (2), tom yum noodle soup, and a house salad. We ordered a beef rice dish (forget the name, last one on the regular menu under “signature Thai dishes”) to-go!
I can’t wait to try more of their items - like their crispy chive cake or curry puffs. Our server was friendly & took good care of us, the ambiance was so nice to sit and relax in, bathrooms were clean.
Parking: property mgmt got rid of street parking right in front to create a bus lane but there’s still the handy parking “garage” attached to the shopping strip! Very easy walk (less than a minute if you’re able bodied) through the opening/shortcut.
We stopped by late after running errands, and it was surprisingly good! (And im a korean that loves thai food)
We got a tom yum noodle soup w beef and kao mun gai. Large portions and both tasted really good.
Tom yum soup has rich broth with lots of beef and noodle, and kao mun gai the chicken came in a big portion and was tender. I also loved the seasoned rice that came with it.
Service and atmosphere was great too! Will definitely come back.
The food was good. The location and ambiance of restaurant are comfortable and convenient. Anyway, for me, their food/menu are quite different from many Thai restaurants - that is very interesting. If you feel tired with boring standard of authentic Thai food, Thai Cottage Bistro is a good choice to get a new experience and taste of Thai cuisine.
We were hungry and were looking for a Thai restaurant nearby. We located this restaurant without looking at the menu. This is a Thai fusion restaurant and has a mixed menu. We ordered several items, and most of the food items were good. The chicken in the chicken Biryani didn't taste good for some reason. Maybe it is a hen, but it was chewy and had a smell. Other than that, other food items were good. It's a different type of Thai restaurant, so I would definitely give Kudos for being creative.
I love this place! One of my new favorite Thai restaurants. They don't sell a lot of "stereotypical" thai take out dishes, like pad thai or pad kee mao, so don't come here expecting that. However, they have some really great dishes I've never tried anywhere else. My favorite are the crispy taro and the crispy chive cakes, but everything is delicious.
We stopped by this well-decorated restaurant to find my Thai food fix and this was the one. Food tasted as the same I ate in Thailand even though it’s fusion style. (Just some local ingredients they added differently from the authentic recipe).
We got the Braised Beef Noodle Soup which beef balls were amazing. The beef was tender and the soup was exceptionally seasoned. Another dish we had was Roti and Massaman Curry. It was mild but tasted just right making my boyfriend dig into it all.
The recommendation for a dessert would be the Pandan Custard with French Toast or the Croffle. The custard made from Pandan leaves that gave the soft aroma which match well with buttery bakery. ☺️
Enter the parking at the garage pass the restaurant is closer.
Uncommonly great place. The menu is small for a reason. Every single thing we had was fantastic. Don't expect a lot of Thai restaurant main stays like Drunken Noodles or even Pad Thai, but there's plenty of other traditional Thai and unique fusion dishes to try. As good as restaurants get.
Three of us had a wonderful experience at Thai Cottage Bistro on a Sunday evening for dinner. I really liked the ambience and decor of the restaurant. They have TVs with images of the items on their menu which was great to have a visual idea of food I was unsure about, it kind of made me want to order more! We ordered the Spinach Crispy Wonton, Spicy Edamame, Crispy Vegetable Dumplings, Thai Boat Noodle Soup with rice noodles and beef, Red Curry with tofu and rice, and the Chicken Satay Sandwich. Everyone LOVED their food. We were visitors to Rockville, staying at the Homewood Suites and we were able to walk to dinner. If we lived nearby, we would eat here often! If we visit again, we will be back! The owner was lovely, accommodating and we wish this wonderful restaurant much success!!
Best Thai food in the area. The dishes are planned and made with love. The attention to detail is amazing. The sauces are out of the world.
Tom yum fish tacos were so good, esp if you add the dash of lime. Every component added to the explosion of flavors in your mouth in a perfect balance.
SO's spider basil burger had an amazing sauce that sort of tasted like it had a bit of brie or some soft cheese. I only had a bite but the sauce was unreal. It also has a deep fried soft shell crab as its protein, and it was soft on the inside and easy-to-bite crispy on the outside. The flavor is great, and it's not so spiceful so thay my spice-averse SO greatly enjoyed it and said he'd order it again next time.
My kao soi pu nim was noodle curry with the same deep friend soft shell crab. It's for curry lovers because the spices are full-bodied like it's saying "why eat curry if not in its pure state?" It's strong, like Thai Cottage Bistros' other curry dishes, and there seemed to be some different spices mixed into the noodles so when you stirred it, it had a pleasant colorful visual that was very satisfying. I took some to go to savor it more slowly. No regrets because few places serve dishes without holding back on spices and I love feeling the full impact - just in moderation.
Mango sticky rice and pandan craffle were a super way to wrap things up. Simple dishes but done perfectly - I much prefer the mango sticky rice personally, though both are tasty.
Great ambience, lunch rush hour gets a bit busy on weekdays.

Service and atmosphere was great too! Will definitely come back.
Definitely start with the TCB Wing Zaap. Red curry is insanely delicious as well as boat noodle soup. Friends have loved the Tom Yum and Thaiger is Crying sandwich too. Will be back for the Kao Mok
Excellent food!
Grabbed some food here for the first time, and it was all delicious. Will definitely be back to dine in.
I don’t normally write reviews of places but felt motivated to for the Bistro.
I went there with my friends we all got different dishes that were all great! Service was great! It also has a nice ambiance.
Pretty average Thai food. Tad on the sweet side
First time at TCB and it was so yum! I’d been looking forward to eating here since I live nearby.

Great service and AMAZING food!! Thai cheap is so cheap and delicious, and the sandwiches are so creative!!!
The decor of the restaurant is so cute and very homely. The food came out quickly and the staff were so nice. And the food was so good as well. Me and my friends are definitely coming back.
So delicious and great service!!!
lol it was good
The green curry is the best I have had in MD. I will be going back for just that alone!
Honestly the BEST Thai fusion food you can find!
I took a group of 4 for dinner here. We had an excellent experience. I had a family friend tell me about the place and their good experience with book. We had several of their appetizers as well and they were all really good.
Very good, clean and great food!
We kept coming back here even though Thai Cottage Bistro is hidden in a low traffic zone with its atypical menu, untraditional cuisine and despite it all, we are from a traditional Thai restaurant family in the heart of Bangkok. It’s the authentic tastes that this restaurant produces and we can assure you that the cookings are as Thai as they get. Don’t let the fast food sounding dishes like the tacos, burgers and sandwiches fool you. Everything that goes in them is Thai delicious. You will see the owner named “Book” waiting the table in a beautifully decorated tropical interiors while his sister and brother-in-law work in the kitchen. He told us that he used to work in a Thai restaurant but decided to do something different. It’s a risk that we gave him a thumb up. Our favorite dishes are the melt-in-your-mouth Chive Cakes, delicious Fish Taco and delectable Curry Sandwiches. However we have to admit that we hadn’t found anything we didn’t like yet. So be brave and order something new. You won’t be disappointed.
This has recently become one of my favorite places to get lunch. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the staff is very friendly, and their selection of sandwiches are delicious.
I ordered carry out: vegetable dumplings, red curry with steamed vegetables and tom kha soup. All were excellent!
Next time I might ask if they could perhaps steam the dumplings, but even though they were fried they were NOT greasy and very tasty
The chef in the kitchen is obviously a master of sauces and soups! Everything I had was very flavorful.
I will be back!
Thank you, Thai Cottage Bistro!
Found this little Thai Food Heaven. Can’t say enough about how good the food is. Highly recommended!!!
Amazing. Was my first time stopping here for lunch. I got the Udo Beef soup very savory and broth tasted great. Very clean clean facilities and nice customer service. 10/10.
Brilliant food, brilliant service. A real hidden gem in this area.
Fried chicken and soup be bussin
The food was really good! I think this is "thai fusion", rather than traditional thai, so options were very different. No panang curry. But everything we had was scrumptious and delightful. We had Tom Kha, veggie dumplings, rice bowl with fried chicken. Tastes great! I want to come back and try Taro Roti with icecream! Very fusion, and absolutely delicious!
Staff was so friendly. We will definitely be back.
Ordered on line, but the order was not processed. Was kept only 5 min while they prepared the curry dish. So it was a nice visit.
I tried the Thai Cottage Bistro at 1pm on a Sunday and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the experience. The restaurant is tucked away inside the medical center property so there wasn't many people inside at the time. The food was outstanding and the Thai fusion sandwiches were really good. The soup and salad was also great. I will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu and would recommend it to anyone I know. The owners were very nice and friendly as well. Service was great!
Tom yum shrimp tacos were very good! Thoroughly enjoyed Tom Yum Noodle Soup.
Came in wanting a Bahn Mi because I don't know the difference between Vietnam and Thailand. Got the Thaiger sandwich, and it was fantastic. Fries had that double fry crunch and the sandwich has a beautiful balance of sweet and spicy. Be warned, The salad dressing is spicy. I love it, but, I know some people can't handle spice. 10/10 this my new spot.
This has the family restaurant feel with great authentic Thai food. First time visiting, ordered the Boat Noodle Soup. I got the beef and rice noodles. The soup has a lot of flavors and depth. The rice noodles had a great texture, not too soft. The service is very friendly and attentive. Definitely will be coming back again to try other dishes.
The food is absolutely delicious at Thai Cottage Bistro. I have been doing take outs from them for several months and dined in once and never was disappointed. This is just a different level of Thai cuisine, bursting with flavors, lots of healthy options, vegetables, meat. I wish they had more seafood options. Hopefully, they will expand their menu in the future. I think that portion size is reasonable, still large but not giant like many restaurants in USA offer, and price is right on the target.
The Boat Noodle Soup is good!
My wife is from Chiang Mai so we frequently make Thai food at home. I've been in Gaithersburg for work for the past week and have been craving something bold and flavorful.
Their Boat Noodle Soup is the best thing I've eaten in town; it's a good portion, quite rich, and spicy, but the balance of flavors makes it refreshing. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the neighborhood!
Thank you for always coming thru!!! I always put special instructions when I order from DoorDash it’s like my 5th time ordering today and it’s my comfort food thank you so much!! I always get the Kao Moo Yang, Kao Nua Yang, Kao Mun Gai Tod, Thai iced tea!!!!!♥️♥️
Just perfect!! One of the best Thai Restaurants I’ve ever been to! It’s just amazing, definitely coming back🙏🏻
My mom and I were happy to eat at a Thai restaurant that offered some different dishes for us to try. The spinach wontons and volcano shrimp appetizers were amazing and I loved the roti canai sauce so much I kept it for my main meal! I had never had kao mok gai before, but the turmeric rice was flavorful and delicious. My mom thought the thai bbq pork was tender and perfectly flavored. We also enjoyed the clear soup served with meals and thought the dessert options were different and interesting. We went with the roti taro with coconut icecream and it was the perfect ending to a delicious and satisfying meal! Finally, the restaurant was clean, smelled amazing, and had nice music playing. Our server was so friendly and sweet! There is a convenient parking garage right next door as well. I highly recommend you try this gem that is hidden a bit out of the way!
I ordered the fish taco. There was a lot of heat, which was really wonderful! (But there should probably be a warning on the menu!)
Great lil pristine Thai spot handled by Book. EVERYTHING is super fresh, creative, innovative and yet traditional. I must reveal my identity as I am the infamous Billy Thai [TM] aka William Pendzuk [Having eaten at over 160 Thais in the DMV] I know my Thai food and have been to Bangkok and Chiangmai for holiday. I am addicted to the Boat Noodle Soup which is Hugggge!!!! I typically get the To Go container which leads to 4,5 servings.
5 Spices Complex Soup is TCB's description and get-up. I always get the Beef with traditional flat noodles, 3 large meatballs, Chinese broccoli, celery, scallion, cilantro, chives and bean sprouts. I usually get a separate container of yummy red sriracha sauce and sprinkle in the goodness. Let's get back to Book! I have never and you will either ever see one person able to work the dining room and carryout as this man does. Book easily and smoothly handles much of the burgeoning and popular TCB crowd with ease and a distinct smile and kindness. Rumor has it I moved a block away just to spoil myself and fully enjoy the ambiance and essence more frequently at this incredible masterful business run by genius Pat and his lovely wife Jane which has expanded to 6 locations over the past 20+ years going by the popular moniker of Thai Tanium beginning in Kentlands Gaithersburg. I fully love and endorse this place and spread the word of love and enjoyment. You too will be in and out and back and in and back! Sawatdee and yes! Sawatdee. ❤️
I have been having lunch here for few times here. The food was always good. However I had kapow chicken sandwich few days ago and was disappointed with the chicken pieces. Most of the pieces were good and fresh and soft but few were not. It was weird, it almost felt like a plastic thing, difficult to chew and stale. I immediately threw those pieces.
Disappointed to have this experience and my stomach hated it.
Will try again in future and update my review accordingly. Good luck 👍
good servic and tasty

The recommendation for a dessert would be the Pandan Custard with French Toast or the Croffle. The custard made from Pandan leaves that gave the soft aroma which match well with buttery bakery. ☺️

Had a fantastic server Linda for our first time here. Food was outstanding, probably the best Tom kha soup I've had in recent years. Will become our go to spot!!!
Amazing food. Full of flavor, taste. Very authentic. Service was perfect. We really recommend this place.
We were hungry and were looking for a Thai restaurant nearby. We located this restaurant without looking at the menu. This is a Thai fusion restaurant and has a mixed menu. Great food..I got the satay chicken sandwich and spinach wontons
Not your typical Thai restaurant.
Accidentally found this place and it looked really interesting. I Had the chicken satay sandwich and wow. I can't wait to try the other sandwiches this place is a solid choice for lunch. The inside looks nice and has seating, but we got takeout.
The chicken on the sandwich was really flavorful you could eat that even without the sauce, but the sauce elevated the sandwich so much.
It comes with fries and a side salad. The salad dressing is a little spicy so if you're not into spice I'd skip it.
The rice dishes look really good too I'll just have to come back to try those as well.
This was a great place to stop for lunch. I got a larb sandwich which was yummy and my coworker got their tom yum noodle soup and said it was great as well. Service was quick and friendly. I really appreciated that their sandwiches come with salad and fries. I felt their prices were reasonable.
Edit: I've now tried more of the menu and have loved it all. however, I need to highlight the pandan custard and craffles and the pandan custard and toast. These desserts knocked it out of the park. the toast had an incredible texture and just the right level of doneness. The craffles were light and crispy. the custard was just the right level of sweetness and brought out the best in the craffles and the toast. absolutely try these desserts!
Excellent place, food and service. I’ll be back again soon! Got Beef man…. (Don’t remember the name) Curry and it was delicious!
Insanely good chicken satay sandwich
Excellent. Highly recommended. The owner, Book, is very friendly and has some absolutely delicious food.
The sandwiches in particular are superb. Come support this place!!
Flavorful soup. Great service.
Cute modern casual place with good service. I had an appetizer papaya salad and Tom yum soup with shrimp. Both tasted good. To get five stars I would expect string beans with the salad and the soup to be just a tad less sweeter.
I thought to expect Thai street food (like Sense of Thai’s menu from Ashburn) but the menu was pretty run of the mill Thai food. Good lunch combos available for less than $20. I like the street food video on the screen. It was fascinating to watch real street food in Thailand.
Affordable delicious Thai foods. We tried the pork leg stew and the curry chicken and they were both very tasty. Personally I consider them the best Thai food in Rockville. They were a little busy on a week day noon time but not crowded (most people did carryout). The decoration has a lot of greens. Service was just right, accommodating but without interruption or rushing.
Stopped in to try the food here. Best decision I’ve made in quite a while. The owner asked me if I wanted to try a Thai chicken burger he had just created but wasn’t on the menu. Me being a foodie agreed and it did not disappoint!! The flavors were great. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area!!
This is a small, intimate restaurant but I thoroughly enjoyed the unique Thai infusion menu. Everything I had was delicious! I would definitely make the drive to eat here again. I highly recommend the Kao Mun Gai Tod and the Kao Mok Gai. They were both flavorful. The rice in the Kai Mun Gai Tod is heavenly. The portion sizes are very good. Oh, also get the lychee green tea with boba or the passion fruit green tea with boba.
It's a small ground-level locale near Shady Grove Hospital. The food is great, staff is nice, prices reasonable--great local asset.
Fantastic food, and great service
The food was pretty. Presentation great, but taste, ok. It was crowded. They didn't separate tables to seat more when they could. And the good want that good. It looked terrific but it wasn't that great to eat. Not bad, but nothing special. We won't go again.
Great for takeout, less for eating in
Really unique Thai menu. We ordered the braised beef noodle soup and the satay chicken sandwich, and the crispy chive cake appetizer. Delicious!! We’ll be back and hope this spot does well. A hidden gem in Shady Grove.
Truly a 5 Star spot! The service, environment, and food our perfect. I drive from DC right after work and just barely make it to Thai Cottage before they close
Im a huge fan of the Larb Gai Tacos that they've created, I didn't know I could love larb more than I already did! I get them every time I stop in. Today I also had the Beef Soup which was SO nice on a rainy cold day. I always include a Thai tea with my meal and I'm a happy camper.
They are a new location and working hard so bring your friends. They'll be impressed how you found such an awesome spot!
My First time trying the Chicken Satay. Amazing Sandwich! We didn't dine in but waiting for our food it is laid-back and comfy.
Nice Thai Cafe. They have a more casual twist on normal Thai dishes: sandwiches, platters and Cafe type drinks. We got dinner on weekday and it was pretty much deserted. I imagine it's more of a lunch and takeout place.
Recently visited Thai Bistro for dinner!
Such a lovely welcoming decor transporting you to a green lush place!
We ordered veggie crispy dumplings, tom yum sandwich and Thai noodle soup!
Everything tasted heavenly and made with fresh ingredients, you could feel the freshness with every bite ! And in beverage we ordered Thai iced coffee, what an amazing refreshing drink!
Must visit if you are looking for authentic Thai food! Definitely coming back again !
Thai family owned and operated serving authentic Thai street food for the whole family! Menu items made fresh to order in house by head chef, including bubble tea and original chef inspired Thai desserts! Open daily with plenty of free parking and convenient street level access. Carry out and delivery containers are environmentally friendly and compostable . Excellent friendly service. It just doesn’t get any better than this!
I’ll start by saying we got takeout so the food might be different if you’re dining in, but we weren’t very impressed from the meals we ordered. I ordered a beef dish and my wife got a sandwich. Both were really bland. The dumplings were also meh. The desserts were quite tasty though! Hopefully the food is better in person, we’ll give them another chance :)
The place is clean and cozy. The food was exceptionally fresh and delicious. Vegetarian noodle soup was very good but a bit too plain in flavor. Grilled cheese was delicious , the fries that came with it were just ok. Pandan custard with toast was really tasty! Overall we had a positive experience with room for improvement in service.
This is very close to NCI in Shady Grove. There is not much foot traffic, but the service could be faster for what is mostly soup noodles and sandwiches. For me, the food was s tiny bit salty. I would not go again because the price is comparable for a lot of places but the food is meh, I would say try it once.
We ordered the Tom Yum Noodle Soup, Khao Soi Gai and the Summer Rolls, which is not on the regular menu but was on special.
I would say the best dish was the Khao Soi which was very flavorful and the portion of chicken was very large, with two drumsticks. This dish was the most expensive but to me was still by far the most worth it.
The Tom Yum Soup was okay, a little too sour for my taste but my wife liked it more than I did. We tried the rice noodles for this dish and I preferred the egg noodles that were in the Khao Soi.
Finally, the Summer Rolls were very good but I think a bit overpriced at $8.99. They were comparable to other summer rolls I've had, which I usually see in the $6-7 range.
Overall, I think the food was very good and the prices were reasonable for the most part. Would recommend trying if you live or work nearby. The only other thing I will mention is they served the food in plastic containers and gave disposable chopsticks. I believe they just opened, but hopefully they will eventually invest in nicer bowls and utensils.
Great food. Peaceful atmosphere. Friendly service.
the food is too good , perfect balance and great serving size
Thai Cottage Bistro is a new restaurant in Rockville in a location that formerly housed a sushi restaurant. The dishes are creative, delicious and authentic. The family shared a variety of dishes including the Tom Yum soup, the Kao Soi Gai, one of the sandwiches and one of the rice dishes. All were excellent.
I'm a big fan of Thai food and am happy that Thai Cottage Bistro is another excellent option in the area.
Stopped by for lunch and was very satisfied with the service, food, and atmosphere! The owner is very friendly, and the everything we tried tasted great. Prices are reasonable considering the area as well!
Best Thai food in shady grove! Delicious soups and great service! Come for an authentic Thai experience
Came here for lunch and the food was really fantastic. Place is clean and open, seating is comfortable, there's a parking garage next to the store front. Not a whole lot of negatives regarding this place.
Wings - Crispy, a tiny amount of spice (I'm terrible with spicy food) and were cooked well. Flavor was great and I would definitely order this again.
Khao Soi - This is the best khao soi I've had in the area. Better than Kiin Imm, Bangkok Garden, Sisters Thai, so on. It's rich, creamy, has good depth, the lime lightens it all up. Really superb. I can't believe I'm saying this but the chicken portion is too much. They give you two drumsticks and they're a good size but I would happily pay the same price and go with one less chicken leg and still feel more than satisfied.
Braised Beef Noodle Soup - This was probably the best thing we had this trip. We got it with the thin rice noodle. The broth was incredibly good (not spicy), was rich and had tons of flavor, beef was plentiful (large portion for the size of the dish) and tender, had a hint of lime as well. Really, really good.
I love Thai food and usually try any Thai restaurant I can and I can say that this is easily now my favorite.
Delicious food. Both traditional and innovative options. Amazing service. Attentive and personable.
Get the shrimp tacos!
Such a charming neighborhood Thai restaurant with great ambience and such authentic Thai flavors with a twist of fusion! I enjoyed my experience there very much and look forward to returning!
