I bought three bottles of Sapporo beer while being seated at the rear of the restaurant. The Thai female bartender, whose sister owns the place, ignored me, which forced me to go to the bar each of the three times I bought a bottle of Sapporo. Each one cost me three bucks.

I decided to not buy any food because I felt unwelcome in that deserted restaurant. I went to the cash register and paid nine dollars plus tax and gave a seventeen percent gratuity even though the foreigner didn't deserve one. A tattooed white waitress was seated at a table next to the cash register and talking to the owner while smoking cigarettes. She noticed that I'd paid a 17% tip and angrily demanded that I pay more money. I told her that she saw that the owner's sister did nothing for me besides hand me a few bottles of beer. Nevertheless, the White waitress continued to demand more money from me.

That incident occurred on April 3, 2019, and I have not returned to this restaurant ever since that date--the rumours that different Thais own it notwithstanding.

Visited from out of town and had family style with 6 people. To start we had crab rangoon, scallion pancakes, and papaya salad. The scallion pancakes were very crispy and we loved the papaya salad.

Stand outs from dinner were the duck choo chee, pineapple fried rice, and the crispy chicken. Loved the pork belly as well. Honestly it was all excellent. Flavorful, some spice but nothing crazy (we asked for things mild).

Diner Review №4

My experience at M Thai Restaurant was quite underwhelming, with a few areas needing improvement.

Curry: The curry lacked flavor and didn’t have the depth I was expecting. It felt rather bland and didn’t stand out.

Soup: The soup was a big letdown—it was essentially just warm water with little to no taste or seasoning.

Service: The service was disappointing. We were rushed to order just two minutes after sitting down, despite arriving nearly an hour before closing time.

Ambience: The ambience was decent—nothing too extravagant, but it created a comfortable atmosphere to dine in.

While the restaurant had some positives, the food and service didn’t meet expectations, making it hard to recommend.

Just amazingly tasty. All the currys and especially the Khai Soi is delicious. Just ask for chili oil or you'll get "white person spice levels"

Diner Review №7

Their fresh hand roll w/ shrimp was great and I had a special curry with duck that was incredible. Highly recommend!

Diner Review №8

Food was good, pricey though. Guiltily, I wish Thai Orchid was located here and not Orono because Thai Orchid is much better.

Great meal

Diner Review №11

Outstanding! One of best Thai meals my wife and I have ever had. It will be a regular stop when we come to Bangor.

Diner Review №12

First time trying their food and it was delicious!! Got take out, the pan fried dumplings were perfect. I got the Crispy Chicken Fried rice for my entree, WOW ! Incredibly flavorful, glad the to go container had a separator, the crispy chicken stayed that way because of it ! My other half got the Crispy Pad Thai and loved it too. Will definitely be back soon.

Diner Review №13

Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Cannot recommend the crying tiger enough, beef was very high quality, can add spice yourself to your liking. Very happy with our experience

Diner Review №14

We stopped in for lunch in our way to the airport. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all great. Portions large. Service excellent and very friendly.

Diner Review №15

Really tasty Thai food done right! The owner and staff were friendly.

Food arrived quickly, portion size was good. Felt satisfied after our meal.

We had Panang Curry, Basil Fried Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai, and drinks.

Diner Review №16

Decent Pad Thai, a little sweet.

Diner Review №18

So, I've been a connoisseur of Vietnamese pho restaurants for a couple decades now. Here's the secret about finding a good place to get awesome pho.

If the restaurant looks like you're walking into a garden shed that was converted and you feel like you're in somebody's living room, and the service is not that super sugary nice that American restaurants usually have, the pho is going to be incredible.

If you walk into a modern building with updated and professionally laid out tables and booths, and the person sitting you is repeating a standard "how can we serve you today? how many days guests in your party? Right this way.." script, the pho won't necessarily be bad, but it will almost certainly be lackluster and not as genuine as the first restaurant I described above.

M Thai is located in a converted auto repair shop, none of the furnishing matches, and while the staff isn't rude, it's all business. So as the rules dictate, the pho here is AWESOME! Keep in mind that I have lived in the Boston area and the Washington DC area, frequenting all the pho restaurants and food trucks available in those areas, to include those in the city's China Town districts.

Don't let the aesthetics prevent you from getting some of the best pho I've had, in friggin BANGOR MAINE!!!

The one thing I do wish they would change is the fact that they're closed on Sundays! I'm going to be in Bangor tomorrow, but no pho for yo! (Yes, I pronounce it incorrectly, because I'm 'Merican!)

As we searched for a dining experience on a Sunday night we ran across M Thai. So glad that we found this restaurant. the staff was very accommodating and knowledge of the menu. They also have a full bar if you are looking for a drink with your meal. We enjoyed Chicken Sattay as an appetizer. It was served with 2 dipping sauces...perfect! We enjoyed Masaman Chicken Curry and Pineapple Fried Rice for our entrees. Both were huge portions and were very flavorful. We would recommend this restaurant the next time you are in Bangor!!

I was looking forward to my meal to at the very top of my dish after taking 2 bites finding what looked to me like floor sweepings . Hairy dirt string of something that never should be on a plate . Needless to say I had to walk out leaving my husband behind because I couldn't stop gagging after finding that in my dish . We didn't have to pay for my dish but this should never happen.

Diner Review №28

Delicious food in terms of taste and quality as well . Order Thai fried rice and chicken stai . Both are really tasty.

Diner Review №29

I would give zero stars if I could, I've been eating at this establishment for 15 years since it was Thai siam, and I will never go back. Ordered $80 dollars of takeout from them, same things I've always ordered and loved, only to get home 10 minutes later to find the noodles AND chicken on my tonkatsu pad thai had been precooked earlier in the day and reheated. The noodles were all stuck together and gross, fried chicken was rubbery and dry. Their crab Rangoons used to be my favorite anywhere, they've replaced them with cheap soggy wrappers and imitation crab. Curry was watered down and flavorless. the entirety of this restaurants menu has been made as cheap as possible, it used to be filled with fresh ingredients and delicious food and now it's clear they only care about their own bottom line. When I called to express my concern I was told "sometimes if they make an extra pad thai they'll try and resell it." Was told they would check with management to see if I could get a gift card if I'd be willing to give them another chance, I agreed as this used to be my favorite takeout spot, after two weeks and messaging multiple times I was finally told today they could offer me 20 dollars, that "you can't please everyone"
The new owners are driving this place into
The ground, save your time and money and get your thai food from thai kitchen in Orono, they actually make your food to order.

Diner Review №30

Everything was delicious, one of the best Thai restaurants! Bright space, friendly staff! Wonderful experience! We'll definitely come back if we're in the area again :)

Diner Review №31

Normally my stuff is amazing, I mean amazing. Had a few hiccups with my food before but no biggie we are human and things happen but yesterday was not it at all and I wish I had taken a picture but I was very upset I wasn't thinking. My chicken wings were sour and not even cooked all they way. My co-workers were even shocked because i speak highly of this place. The people are nice and the lady reassured me that my chicken wings would have been freshly made. She did apologize and gave me rice even thought I did not want rice I was appreciative. Then something told me check your food because chicken wings doesn't cook fast. In my mind I said "I hope they did not do what i think they just did" They had the audacity to refry the wings I had given back like I was not going to know. And the sourness from the chicken when i open the container up🤦🏿‍♀️ I was so upset I bought my food back inside and left it there. I used to love that place but after yesterday I am all set. You can't fool a cook that have been cooking for a very long time. You can not do that to people in general.

Please order the fresh rolls. Their fresh rolls were the best ones I’ve ever had (unfortunately not pictured).
I liked that every dish’s flavors were intense, but the rest of my family found the curries too spicy even after choosing milder ones. Our waiter was friendly though, so they probably would have helped us if we told them.

Diner Review №59

Sunday lunch. First visit. We will definitely be back!. Food is fresh, flavorful with beautiful ripe fruit and vegetables. Staff was quite attentive. Atmosphere was relaxed, tasteful with cultural tones. Recommended.

Diner Review №65

Worst thai food ever. My chicken satay I had to pick off uneadible parts and it tasted bad. The curry I didn't get what I ordered but the shrimp was OK (but not what I ordered). I asked for extra spicy and mine wasn't even mild. I'm probably throwing the rest away it's not very good.

Diner Review №66

The food was amazing! The waiter was very kind. We tried something new other than what we usually get and both dishes were excellent! :) The scallion pancakes for our appetizer were delicious.

This is an edit: I came back tonight a second time with my family. We are SO in love with this restaurant. Again, SOOO nice. Service is so pleasant, quick, and food is the best Thai food! So fresh and prepared so well.

Wow, absolutely fantastic. The Pad Thai is the best meal I’ve had since coming to Bangor.

Diner Review №74

Wonderful khao soi! Didn't be afraid of this one, as it's not too common. It's a creamy chicken curry that's not too spicy and pairs well with a Thai iced tea or iced coffee.

Diner Review №75

We had such a good experience at this place. The food was amazing and the servers were very accommodating to our gluten allergies.

Diner Review №78

I cannot stress enough how amazing this restaurant is. The atmosphere from the moment you walk in is so inviting yet exquisite and almost fanciful. My wife and came late into the night about an hour and half before they closed; I had called beforehand to make sure they could accommodate us and whom I presume was the owner, was so kind hearted and offered such care with their attitude. If that wasn't enough, the food was hands down some of the best food I've ever eaten. I had gotten something simple that I've had many times before, orange chicken, and truly there will never be another orange chicken that even stands close to the masterpiece I was given. The batter of the fried chicken was packed with flavor, the sauce was the perfect balance of sweet citrus, the vegetables was blanched to perfection and there was even what I believe was sliced wedges of minimally sauteed orange; no bitter, overpowering, peel anywhere in sight. I put some house made chili oil on it and the dish went from a 10 to an 11. The favors became so elevated and the sweet citrus with the intensely flavorful heat was incredible. My wife got the tofu Pad Thai, heat level-Make me cry, and for the first time in such a long time was the food spicy enough for them. It can be incredibly difficult to find food that meets that promised burn, but they lived up to the expectation. From what I tried, it was intensely flavorful while staying very well balanced; within the first 15 seconds I was coughing a little bit due to the spice but I had to stop myself was trying another bite because it was just so delicious. We ended up getting fried veggies rolls as an appetizer ; they had such a pleasant texture and the sauce enhanced the rolls instead of overpowering them. For drinks I had a Mai Tai, and my wife had a Thai iced tea, both of which were very good and the presentation on them was amazing. Overall, cannot recommend enough; it will make going to other restaurants, difficult, because you will just want to eat here again.

Diner Review №81

Papaya salad without fish sauce. Vegan friendly.

Diner Review №82

Wow. So glad to have found this gem. The food was spectacular and for once when I asked for Thai hot I got it such a nice warm spice. Great vegetables in the Panang curry perfect heat for a cold day. My friend had the drunken noodles and the plating was beautiful and the food fantastic. This will be our go to Thai food place. Oh and wonderful service

Diner Review №83

Best thai food in Bangor

Diner Review №84

Overpriced food that lacked true Flavor. Pad Thai was drowning in sauce. Tom Kai soup was one of the worst I've had- lacked vegetables, chicken was rubbery as if it wasn't fresh, almost no flavor.

Diner Review №85

Best Thai food. Love their Curry and Crab lagun

Diner Review №86

Diner Review №88

Christmas Eve we left a beautiful mass at St. Mary's in Bangor and drove downtown to see the Christmas lights. We noticed MThai was open so decided to pop in. We were seated at a window seat overlooking the city lights. Warm and toasty inside. Very pleasant woman came to take our orders. She had barely left our table when back she came with our appetizers. Delicious hot crab Rangoon and made to order fresh spring rolls. Perfect! Just as we finished an order of Pad Thai arrived. We split an order but the cook placed it on two separate plates and one would never imagine those plates we half servingings. Again delicious Pad Thai!! Over the top fantastic. Little spice jars set in front of us because one of us likes it hotter than the other. Truly an awesome experience. Sadly a drunken customer became louder and louder at the end of our meal or we might have lingered longer. Best service anywhere! Delicious authentic Thai food. We'll be back!!

Diner Review №89

L6nch specials were twice the price as on line. Food had no flavor

Diner Review №90

We live 90+ miles north of Bangor, but we had to visit the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, so we stopped at M Thai after that. WOW! What a welcome meal! I had the red curry and it was perfect. The tofu in the curry was beautifully cooked, as were the rest of the ingredients. Thanks, M Thai, for the best red curry I've ever had --and I've had a few. I look forward to my next visit to Bangor so I can dine with you again!

Diner Review №91

They always have the best food recently went and I love the new menu it's wonderful you have to go and see for yourself!!

Diner Review №92

Great Pad Thai! Their food is delicious! Pretty much do takeout from here so can't really respond about atmosphere.

Diner Review №93

If I can give 0 review, this is what I would do. Horrible food. Ordered tom yam soup with seafood. They put 2 shrimps only. The rest was filled in with ginger. My hub ordered beef pho. The broth was just slightly warm and not hot. The taste of the broth was like sugar. The cook is so cheap to add the flavor or quantity of the broth. However, the prices of the meals were like in Las Vegas or New York. The dishes not worth a penny. Was so pissed with paying $40 for nothing. Horrible not recommending at all especially if you been traveling and eat in the restaurants a lot.

Diner Review №94

Awesome food, friendly staff and clean facilities. The drunken noodles and mango rice pudding are a must try!

Diner Review №95

Absolutely delicious food!
Full of flavour, fast preparation and friendly service.

Diner Review №96

I just paid $48 for take out:
- one chicken pad Thai
- one chicken basil rice
- one crab ragoon

... and that, to them, is worth $50. And we picked it up.

I'm never ordering from this place again. This is the definition of "gouged."

We visited this place for 2 consecutive dinner and the food was awesome. Especially the Thai curry with coconut in it and the special thai spices in it. One of the staff working there used to work in a Thai Restaurant in Malvern , PA and she was very friendly to us, knowing that we were from PA.

Diner Review №108

We came for dinner before seeing a play at the Penobscot theater across the street. We've been looking for a good local Thai place and this did not disappoint. My husband and I both got Thai iced teas that were great, the appetizer Thai dumplings were a stand out and were amazing (with a really yummy dipping sauce too!), I got the pad Thai, which had thinner noodles than I had before -- and it was really delicious!

Diner Review №109

Very good food, good taste and clean restaurant. Must try

Diner Review №125

Absolutely obsessed with the steamed dumplings and crunchy rolls.

Diner Review №126

Very delicious food and super quick service. The restaurant was very large but not crowded at all.
Tom Kha soup was superb and sticky rice was great. Papaya salad was very delicious and spicy. 🥵

Diner Review №127

Nice sweet place! Good prices … family owned and run. Meet the sweetest lady the mother of mama d , pictured here

Diner Review №128

Stopped here after a looong drive for some much needed lunch and the flavours were phenomenal! Large portions too, and friendly service.

Diner Review №129

We are vegetarian and eat a lot of Thai food.

The flavors were better than most Thai restaurants. Portion size was decent. We ordered the papaya salad vegan and the Laab Gai salad with Tofu instead of chicken. We were impressed with the flavors of both these dishes. Better than I've had at 95% of other Thai restaurants. Our entrees were also pretty good. The one significant drawback is the prices were definitely higher than almost any other Thai restaurant we've been to, and we are from Washington State where prices tend to be pretty high.

Overall, we would return, but order less to keep the bill down.

Diner Review №130

We ordered take out and it was delicious! The chicken pad Thai and tofu pad Thai were not spicy (like we requested) and a good portion size, and the mango sticky rice was very good as well. Their pad Thai and the mango sticky rice is gluten free as well. As an fyi, the parking is on the left side of the building, not on the right, you will be towed by another business if you park on the right side.

Diner Review №134

Undecided on this place so far. Ordered Pad Thai at 3 stars spiciness. It was just ok. A little bland and overly sweet.

I also ordered Tom Kha soup. The portion seemed small for the price but it was very tasty.

I ordered takeaway. It was prepared quickly. The food was hot when I picked it up, and the employees were friendly.

I may give it another shot.

The masaman curry is SO GOOD!

Diner Review №139

Seems to be sort of in the process of opening with a fairly chaotic interior; confusing as it appears that it's been opened for several months. The food was excellent and that's the most important part.

Diner Review №140

Used to be my favorite Thai spot in the area, but the last time I ordered the Pad Thai just wasn't what it used to be. Mediocre meal for the price

Diner Review №141

The food is priced as high end but not good enough to be high end. The experience was disappointing.

Diner Review №142

We live in Seattle and are blessed with many many Thai restaurants and love the food. We came to Maine for the holidays and decided to try Mama D's. I must say we were skeptical. Well we were blown away!! The food was spectacular. Super fresh, perfectly spiced and above all so great tasting. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Bangor area. We went many times while in town and every time was as good as the first. We can't wait to go back!!

Diner Review №143

Friendly and customer-service oriented staff. Consistently delicious food. Beautiful space. We love Mama D's! It's always such a treat.

Diner Review №144

The food was basically inedible. Dumplings were made with fried wonton wrappers and everything was gummy and glutinous. I am a lover of Thai food and this was very, very bad Thai food.

Diner Review №145

We had a late lunch here and enjoyed ourselves immensely! For appetizers we ordered the fresh and crispy spring rolls, and the dipping sauce was delicious, I preferred the fresh spring roll. I ordered Masaman curry at level 2 spice and it was perfection! My husband ordered Drunken Noodles at level 3 and he says next time he will get them at level 4, but he likes things much spicier than I do. We will definitely be coming back!

Diner Review №149

My partner and I were visiting Maine a few weeks ago. We’re both from New Jersey so safe to say we’ve had our fair share of Thai cuisine. To be honest, we weren’t expecting all that much, especially given that we chose Mama D’s simply based on the fact that they were one of the few restaurants still open later in the evening in that area.

Let me tell ya… we both full heartedly agreed that it was some of THE BEST THAI we’ve ever had. We got the drunken noodles, tom yum soup (incredible!) and cashew chicken.

Thank you Mama D’s for not only being open but being incredibly delicious!

Diner Review №157

Food was tasty. Ordered Masmaan curry and chicken fried rice.

Diner Review №158

My sisters and I visit family in Maine every 4 or 5 months. We always go to Mama D's. We know it to be a warm and friendly place with delicious Thai food. This past time we both ordered Drunken Noodle. It was soooo good. We will continue to enjoy dinner at Mama D's whenever we visit Bangor.

Diner Review №159

Duck Cho Chee Curry was excellent. Fried whole fish was good but not the greatest. Over all was a good place

Diner Review №160

Cibo ottimo porzioni esagerate spartano

Diner Review №161

Was really tasty. Is a little pricey, but flavor is good..

Diner Review №162

Mediocre at best. I have traveled throughout Asia and Thailand many times. I have even taken cooking classes while in Thailand from a Thai chef and from 2 friends in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai while visiting there. The food at Mama D's falls far short of the flavors experienced while in country in Thailand. Perhaps it is because Mama D is hampered by the lack of being able to obtain the appropriate spices (food was rather bland), proper vegetables (no use of kafir lime leaves, correct mushrooms, lemon grass, etc), and even the correct rice in the sticky rice with mango (there was even a marischino cherry on mine which is unheard of). AND to top it off, it was "warm", not hot when served! Needless to say, I will not be back!!! I might even be bold enough to think I could make better Thai cuisine than this, as a matter of fact, I KNOW I CAN, and I am full blooded caucasian.

Diner Review №163

Diner Review №164

Diner Review №165

Very good pad thai.

Diner Review №166

My favorite Thai/Vietnamese in Eastern Maine!!

Diner Review №167

Wow! Absolutely delicious Thai cuisine. In my experience there’re two types of Thai restaurants: the “comfort style” restaurant that offered generous portions at low cost and the finer restaurant offering smaller, more flavorful portions for a higher cost.

MaMa D is definitely the latter. The prices were very high but every dish was really delicious. We got the Tom Kha soup, mango curry, massaman curry, and pad thai. Both curries were wonderfully made, with the creamy coconut milk flavors coming through. The pad Thai wasn’t greasy at all.
My only quip is that they don’t provide enough rice with the curry. I get that the curry is the main event, but I would have liked a little more to eat it with.

This restaurant has one of the coolest interiors as well. See the pictures for some awesome vibes.

Diner Review №168

Very disappointed
I took my sons out to try something new
The appetizers were very average
The pho was served without vegetables and the beef was like rubber
I got the whole fried fish they claim it’s red snapper but it was maybe 12 inches long
And very dry inside and the outside was mushy
I sent it back and 15 minutes later they returned the same fish this time picked apart and over all a mess
We asked for a manager and was just ignored for 20 minutes

Diner Review №170

Good food, bad service. Asked for pork pad thai and they brought chicken. My friend did not get the substitution she asked for. Couldn't understand the waiter at all, his English was horrible and he was mumbling through a mask. At the end, he brings out 1 check for 4 people.. why would you assume we want 1 check? Then he struggles to figure out how to divide it. Then he brings 4 checks and disappears, we were waiting for 15 min. There were only 2 tables occupied. He returns & takes table 2's order, we have our cards and cash ready and he totally ignores us. We figure out "I guess we pay at the front?" they don't have a cash register, he has to go out back and get a purse of money. Also, why do they cram 4 people at a tiny 2 x 4 ft table? The food was good and the atmosphere, oldies music and a great view of downtown Bangor. But we were all frustrated with the dopey waiter.

The masaman curry and kiss me cashew were ordered. The kiss me cashew was a unique option that many Thai places do not have and it delivered. The masaman curry was different from most in the fact that it was not sweet. The staff were friendly and their was a nice downtown viewing window where we ate.

Excellent location, friendly staff, and wonderful food that came out piping hot (big plus for me!)

The tofu spring rolls were very tasty and fresh, and the peanut dipping sauce was phenomenal.

I get Massaman curry at every Thai place I go to, and this one was actually quite unique. It was more savory than others; very good.

My partner got the "Kiss Me Cashew Nut" with tofu and it was AMAZING.

Service was fast and the server was very friendly. Restaurant has a nice vibe to it.

Will definitely come here again if I'm ever in the Bangor area.

Best peanut sauce in the area! Ask for a side of it no matter what you're ordering, it's a lovely accompaniment. Spring rolls are so fresh and light you could order two. Pad Thai was perfect, lots of choices for protein, and it came with lots of sprouts (my favorite). Mai Tai was delish. Good prices, very friendly service.

Amazing service and delicious Thai food. Our server was awesome. I highly recommend their Thai Iced Tea, Drunken Fish Fillet, Rangoons, and the Fresh Shrimp spring rolls. Lastly, the restaurant was clean with a good decor ☺️

Food was average.

Overall a nice visit. The Pad Thai was very delicious and the service was good.

My reason for only 4 stars is because of the dessert. I should not have gotten it. The fried bananas tasted like nothing but fried and honey. Very little banana taste. Left a dry taste in my mouth.

Thankfully 95% of my visit was good.

Wonderful quality! Right across from theater, parking on street Yummy volcano bowl. I had basil with Ken 4 star with Jasmine rice. My husband Po Fu w seafood. Everything was, service a little slow at beginning but it was busy
Clean, comfortable and welcoming. When returning to Bangor will go again

Good food, clean restaurant and, friendly staff!!!

Mango curry was just okay. A little blend tasting.. The Mango curry at Thai orchid in Orono is amazing! I was hoping to find one as good as theirs a little close to home. It appears we will continue to make the trip to Orono when we are craving curry.

First visit will probably be our last. I know Drunken Noodles are supposed to be a little spicy, but these were so hot they made us cough. My throat still burns. Pad Thai with no peanuts and chewy noodles. And the server got the order wrong so we had to wait for the second dish.

Diner Review №187

I’ve had a mix of experiences here, some bad and some good. The food has been decent-to-amazing, but I probably won’t be back again. They have had some issues of not including items in the order and then just… not refunding you for it. That, and two times I was inside to pick up an order the front staff was a woman just chatting with her friend who was sitting at the bar next to the register. This might explain why some orders are missing things, as I had to repeat things several times OVER the conversation she was having with her friend. It shouldn’t be struggle just to pay for your order, and you should definitely get a refund when they forget to include parts of your order.

Our curry was watery, the pad thai was ok, bubble tea came in a can, chicken skewers were on the dry side. Overall, our meal didn’t feel like it had much effort put into it.

I’m visiting Maine for a few days and I never thought I would have this absolutely beautiful Thai food experience. Everything on the menu was delicious and fresh. The service was wonderful. Highly recommend the Duck Choo Chee.

Best Thai you can find in Bangor, but I wouldn't call it authentic. Ordered dumplings and fried rice. My friend had the curry. Dumplings were cold when they arrived at the table. Fried rice was okay, but the rice seemed over cooked. Overall, it was okay.
