Varied Thai dishes served with beer & wine in a tranquil shopping-plaza storefront with a patio.
Went with a large group of 8 people. Service was great, no complaints there. Basic menu like all other Thai places I've eaten at, which I figured. Presentation was good.
Red Curry - My favorite kind of curry and what I usually order at every Thai restaurant I go to. I was disappointed. The curry was too liquidy and a little bit on the sweeter side.
Panang Curry - Too thick and way too peanut-ty. I couldn't even enjoy it.
Pad see ew - Lacked flavor, a lot of it. It's like they rushed it. You can tell by the lack of color of the noodles.
Beef Mint Salad - No complaints. I enjoyed it.
Tom Yum Soup - No complaints. Flavor was there.
Overall, this was my first time here. May give it another try in the future, but unfortunately, would not recommend.
As a Thai-American, Hot Basil Thai has been one of my absolutely favorite and authentic Thai restaurants in KC. Food is always delicious and authentic. Service is also always amazing and accommodating. My folks and I have eaten here several times over the years. Highly recommend!!
The Veggie Panang Curry was delicious, definitely one of my favorite dishes for a reason.
The Tofu Phad Thai without fish sauce and without egg was also very good.
The atmosphere is reasonably nice, located in a strip mall so the views aren't anything spectacular, but a pleasant place to visit with a group of friends or family.
The staff was friendly and helpful. We were having a leisurely dinner visiting with friends, but food came out in fairly quick succession.
Definitely worth checking out if you are nearby.
The place was clean, the service was courteous. I usually go with Pad Thai when it comes with Thai restaurant, because it's so common. This time I decided to try Panang beef curry with medium spicy level, which claimed to be most popular curry, my son ordered Gapow. I think my choice was correct, the curry was creamy with delicious coconut milk and peanut panang sauce, it's perfect companion for the rice. Gapow had nice flavor of basil, but I like Panang curry better.
There are plenty of parking spaces nearby.
This was my first time trying Hot Basil Thai Cuisine, I ordered around 8:30 (close is 9), and was still able to place a to-go order. My favorite Thai dish is Tom Yum soup with shrimp, and I was pleasantly surprised I did not have to pay extra for any protein except the "seafood" option.
Once I got to the restaurant and entered the front door I noticed the layout was mindful of dine-in guests AND takeout guests, the main dining room is in an adjacent room. The front desk area is straight across from the front door, but far enough back that it could accommodate multiple people waiting. The staff greeted me and I was given the soup I had ordered.
After I got back to my car I could tell the container was not filled all the way, which concerned me as I had paid about $12 for to-go soup. Upon opening my to-go bag I found that I was right, it was not filled all the way, and the color seemed off for "Thai hot", so I became concerned it would not be spicy. It did not have the classic red peppers saturating the soup.
I was wrong! I don't know how they are able to achieve such great heat with almost no red peppers in the broth. It was a wonderful building heat that burns hotter over time, perfect.
There were plenty of shrimp about 7-8, they were cleaned, deveined, and perfectly cooked. The soup had a beautiful balance of ingredients and flavor. It did not have mushrooms in it, and that did not bother me, and I hardly noticed.
I highly recommend Hot Basil Thai Cuisine, and I will be a returning customer. They are open later than my normal place and the food is less expensive, and if consistent they could easily become my go-to!
Very good and authentic thai food. They have a variety of drink options, I had the famous Thai Iced tea. It didn't disappoint. For appetizer we had fried calamari and asked to switch the siracha salsa for sweet chili salsa. Very good. For main, I had the traditional pad Thai, and I asked to put bean sprouts. Husband had the Gapow. It was delicious. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice, it was the perfect close for a good dinner experience. The service is ok but a little rushed. But I will definitely come back bc of the flavor and execution of the dishes.
I used to work at Oliver’s Salon nearly 10 years ago and loved visiting almost daily. Then I moved back home to Wichita,KS. I recently drove up and made sure to fix my craving with 2 orders of Pad Thai. It was better than back then. I will be visiting more often. Thank you guys!
Love this place. I'm a regular and normally get chicken grapow.
Delicious! Lunch on a Friday got busy and crowded quickly!
Food was great! Basil hot wings were the best! We also tried the crab fried rice and yellow curry, they were good as well.
My favorite in KC.
Huge portions, delicious flavor!! Go easy on the heat, medium was more like hot.
Had the chicken Gapow. It was absolute fire.
I always get my food to go and it’s always fresh, rice is not mushy I recommend.
Told me their Pad Thai was gluten free and it was not. I have celiac so this is unacceptable.

Best pad thai in Overland Park.
Try the basil fried rice or spicy basil with choice of protein and extra vegetables. Atmosphere could be improved.
So, so overpriced. $8.95 for 3 spring rolls. $18.95 for sen mee pad sea eaw or other noodle dishes. It was pretty much plain rice noodles, a little bit of chicken, and veggies.
Pad Thai, trio appetizer... so good!
Had a great meal, service and atmosphere! We started with the Trio appetizer-spring roll, fried egg roll, crab Rangoon. So good and fresh. Then split the Hot Thai duck in red Curry, with pineapple, green peppers and tomatoes. Cut with my fork. Thai iced tea to top it off. Highly recommend!
Got food poisoning
Spicy peanut is so delicious!
The Veggie Panang Curry was delicious, definitely one of my favorite dishes for a reason.

I was very surprised on the green curry. Excellent flavor and great service. Just a strip mall setting but worth visiting. Came back for a second night.
By far the blandest Thai food I've ever had. Ordered Phad Kee Mao, Medium hot, if that was medium I don't know how you could make it milder. Small portions and appetizers were nearly as much as entrees

We had the pad thai mild, which tasted good and had a little bit of kick. The kick was way less than a jalapeño, for reference.
The pad thai is gluten free.
Service was good and quick. We'll be going back.
Service very bad
The food and attentive service were great! We look forward to coming back to try other entrees.
I knew after the first bite that I was going to leave a 5 star review. After a long day tasting this food is such a treat. I got Thai fried rice with veggies and no spicy, it is delicious. Mouth watering vegetables! The spring rolls are fresh and delicious too. Thank you
Best Thai food in Overland Park.

Food was delicious!!! Service was top notch. Very nice restaurant. Perfect for date night. I had the Fried Dim Sum and Basil Thai Fried Rice with chicken. I will be back.
Updating to add: I'm so consistently impressed with the dining experience here. Every food item is top of class. Pad Thai, fried rice, curry, crab rangoon, egg rolls. Try them all! The staff is outstanding and the ambiance is a perfect complement. Can't recommend this place enough. Easily an all time favorite restaurant for me
Easily my goto Thai destination. Reliable food consistently delivers on my high expectations every time I come back. The service is always great, and the atmosphere is as well. Would absolutely recommend
Delicious food, exactly as it was ordered, very attentive staff. The hottest is reasonably spicy.
The food was great and the staff was super nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend trying this once out!
Delicious food and wonderful service! We loved the Pad Thai - it was the perfect degree of spice for us. Appetizers were also stellar. I look forward to eating here again!
Great quality authentic Thai food. Legitimately some of the best Thai I have had. Noodles were outstanding, great texture and not at all greasy. Service was attentive. Price was reasonable. Will be back next time I'm in KC

Best Thai around. Closest I’ve been able to find that tastes like Thailand!
This place used to be really really good…no you there is two shrimp in the seafood fried rice inspite of pay additional $8….and other proteins in other dishes are the same ..non existent…and they increased the prices overall…sad for a place that used to be my go to Thai…
Their food is delicious. Everyone needs to try this place.
This has been my favorite restaurant for many years, and is still unmatched to this day. Even though I live 30 minutes away, I still make the drive to have my favorite food with the best service.
Love this place, amazing food, atmosphere, and service.
Best pad thai in town. Also, don’t sleep on the Panang curry.
I didn't enjoy the food but the rest of my party did, so the four stars is in honor of them. I did enjoy the service and the atmosphere is on par with the price and vibes. Getting a table can be tough but worth it.
This is still my favorite Thai restaurant and we drive out of the way to come here. Their chicken pad Thai is the best!
Good food! Great find!
AC was not working in triple digit weather. Had a box fans blowing.
Spring rolls were bland and tough. Paid $2 extra for shrimp on my dish and got 3 pieces. Definitely not worth their higher prices.
Not many choices for vegetarians as curries have fish oil. But Pad Thai was good with the right spice level. Service was fast.
Great food and great service. Always a good experience!
Ordered chicken pad Thai takeout for dinner. Noodles were a bit too dry and lacking in some flavor. Areas of the noodles that had flavor tasted well made.
Would be better if they poured more sauce when stir frying the noodles so the flavors would be more well rounded and well distributed throughout the noodles.
Noodles are dry likely due to soaking in colder water or water evaporating during the cooking. Perhaps sprinkle some more water into the noodles so that they’re moist, but not wet.
Counted about 2 pieces of chicken inside the entire order and few stems of bean sprouts. Would be nice to include a few more.
I love Thai food, slight disappointment. Will try again on my trips to KC when I come back to see if it has improved since I believe in supporting mom n pop shops.
Aside from food, great service and very nice people.
I had high hopes for this Thai restaurant due to its proximity to my home, but it turned out to be an incredibly disappointing dining experience. The food was bland and lacked authentic Thai flavors. The Crab Rangoon seemed store-bought and tasted terrible. The curry sauce was watery, and the vegetables were clearly not fresh. Overall, it was the worst Thai food I have ever tasted. I won't be returning, and I recommend others to look elsewhere for better Thai cuisine, even if it means going the extra distance to find it.
Food is awful they don’t serve jasmine rice. My sons Thai fried rice was awful never eaten anything worst than that. Few pieces of shredded chicken and a bunch of rice for the low low price of $18.95 you should be embarrassed for robbing people like that. I believe it was made with uncle Ben’s. My wife had the curry that was served with same awful rice. I use to come frequently about 10 years ago and it was great, I guess they cut corners now shame on the owner. You guys are garbage I just spend 120 with tip for four people for trash food. Will never be back.
First time, and it was very delicious. Prices were good, and servings were perfect. Definitely returning
Fantastic food!
Reminds me of when I lived in BKK for years!
Small family owned restaurant. I had the spicy ginger chicken and it was really good.
The best shrimp pad thai I've ever had in my life. Every dish and appetizer I've tried here has always tasted fantastic.
If you're a big fan of spicy Thai food, this is the place to go.
Always enjoy coming here. Food is fresh and has amazing flavors. You can scale the heat/spice of the dishes to your liking. I've never had a bad dish and tried most of the menu. Wait staff is very attentive. Laid back friendly vibe.
We came here last night and had a really good experience. The staff was very attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. We had the spring rolls, curry, and pad Thai. Each dish was delicious. We'll definitely come back again.
I ordered Gapow. The qty that I received was very small and not worth for the money they charged $14.95 + tax. Disappointed.
If your looking for something more laid back and calm, amazing food and friendly service this is is, the paid Thai is amazing and best crab Rangoon in kc (their Thai hot is actually super spicey, they warned me 100x and I didn’t believe it oh boy was I in for a ride, still amazing even when I made the mistake)
Pad se ew was white soupy like chicken noodle soup , fancy paper menus paired with plastic to go chop sticks and plastics to go sauces.Mid meal the server ask how I was paying. Food was more like Chinese food than Thai . Over priced .
They give you an option of "no spice" with their delicious Pad Thai. I love the flavors of Pad Thai but can't handle the spice, even mild can be too much. I'm willing to drive 20 minutes to Hot Basil because of their willingness to accommodate those with delicate flower tastebuds. 🌼 Been eating here for years. Highly recommend the Pad Thai.
One of the best Thai food restaurants I have been too in a while. I got the tiger cry beef and the traditional Thai soup with chicken, bokchoy, mushroom and green onion.
I was so happy the food was not overly sweet. It seems like a lot of other places add sugar to everything so I cant eat it. This was more like a soothing home cooked meal. Very enjoyable.
The Pinapple Fried Rice is the best!
One of my all time favorite places to get Thai, their Pad Thai is a thing of wonder - its by far the best Pad Thai I have ever had in KC. The staff is super friendly too!
I ordered takeout Spicy Basil, which was tasty. However, portion size was so tiny, was still hungry afterward, and I am not a big person. I'm not a chronic bitcher - the service was efficient and friendly. But $17.95 plus tax and a + 25percent tip for such a small portion left me feeling ripped off. Never going back. (Pic w/o food because I was too hungry to wait.)
Excellent food, and service.
Ordered here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We ordered steamed dumplings, pad Thai, and pangang curry. It was all so good! I have zero complaints and will definitely order again.
Portion was sized right but there could have been more protein Portion.
Phad Thai used to be so good here now its dry no flavor just rice noodles had to pour my sweet an sour sauce cup in it just to get some flavor not to mention the protein is non existent asked for chicken and shrimp upcharged $4 dollars for 8 shrimp got 6 tiny popcorn shrimp what happened to this place the food used to be amazing wasted $60 dollars on lunch for two, I cant eat this going in the trash. Where is the chicken? Just rice noodles smh never again.
Delicious food in a pleasant atmosphere.
The tiger cry beef is amazing. They have some of the lightest most delicate crab Rangoon too. Hot Basil is one of my favorite Thai places in town.
Great food, friendly service
Excellent service, great Pad Thai
I feel like I’m missing something. We got a spicy peanut, Thai cashew, veggie rolls and a Thai tea and it was $50. There was absolutely no flavor to either of our entrees. Both of them claimed they came with sauce but there wasn’t any? It was just meat, veggies and rice. Incredibly disappointed and out $50.
Very fresh food with lots of good greens. High quality ingredients and very good dishes
It's our favorite Thai restaurant. Must try the Tom Kah soup, tiger cry beef, Mint beef salad & the green curry.
I don’t think there is a better Pad Thai
In town
Delicious, "authentic" Thai cuisine in a bare bones setting. Authentic is in quotes because I have limited knowledge of Thai food. But what I DO know is that it was fresh, spicy, and delicious at moderate cost.
Incredible crab rangoon, but I wasn't impressed with my entree.... watery and bland.
Good food but it is little expensive
Basil wings, ginger chicken and red curry sauce catfish
Absolutely fabulous, perfect lunch portions And tastes great! Will definitely be coming back
We stop in every time we go thru KC, its always great!
Wonderful service. Wonderful food. Wonderful menu. Was a travel visit; will certainly return if I'm in that area, again.
Way to expansive! Compare to other Locations. Tofu pad thai $17 plus tax. Smh and the portion was small.
This place is going to be one where it depends on who/how they make your dish- so you wilk randomly receive something very good or blah. We got the hot wings, they were excellent. We also got the Drunken Noodles, pad kee mow. They were flavorless...tasted like oil and hot. We ordered hot and they were hot, but that meant I didn't want to add the options for flavor, because all were hot. I asked for more sauce and was told they make it in the dish- so no. I asked for a lime? No. More of the wing sauce? No. Peanut sauce? No. She said you can't combine. I added soy. That made it a little better or at least a little salty. So, since noodles are $18 I wouldn't risk it again. Moral of the story is if you come in, order medium so that if your dish is flavorless you can add the chili-garlic, chili vinegar, or chili powder from the sauce tray.
Delicious food, never disappoints
I loved hot basil! I have tried four entrees and all of them are exceedingly good!
We love Thai cuisine. We tried several places but this place always comes first because of tasty food.
They should start delivering food and may be keep the place open until 9 pm..
A real nice place and the food was excellent Thai!
Terrible spring rolls, just lettuce with a few noodles and shrimp (which ended up costing $2 more and was not listed). They asked what type of meat we wanted on the spring rolls which isn't a good sign. The waitress brought me the wrong noodle dish and my companion was half done by the time I got mine, but no discount, not even a free drink. Way overpriced in general. I ate here several years ago with similar issues, but was willing to give it another chance. Never again.
We tried a THAI restaurant in O.P., KS, for June's B-Day dinner and it was VERY GOOD!
HOT BASIL THAI Cuisine and we loved it! Will probably have for BREAKFAST also? Lol
Large serving sizes and great service
Very pleasant and cozy yet seating didn't feel too crowded. Excellent Thai food.
Love this place, the Basil Fried Rice is the best. Great service and even better food!
The food is good but its a little on the expensive side for the amount of food you get.
The crab fried rice is so delicious!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Got basil has great good as always! Just get the normal pad Thai though not the Woonsan version!
The curries are great as well as the fried rice.
The atmosphere is great and feels fancy.
Though they did increase their prices by $2!
I have never had a bad meal here. It’s my favorite Thai place in the Kansas City metro area. I recommend the Panang curry.
BEWARE PRICE GOUGING! Ordered lunch carry out, they didn't specify that they don't offer lunch prices for carry out, but realized after I picked up my food and looked on their website. Called to ask about the portion size and prices (was charged for dinner, received lunch size) I asked since I was paying for dinner size if I could receive dinner portions (for next time) and they said no! It's really messed up and shady for them to make a few extra dollars. They didn't have a reason why when i asked. Will not be back again.
The food was good. The restaurant was clean.
The best tiger cry beef in town.. i think it could make tigers cry.. I also recommend there padthai and curry! I absolutely love the appetizers. Everything taste fresh and the staff is super friendly!
Great food and service. Red curry was spicy but delicious!
Always love the food here.
Always good food and friendly staff!
The best, period!!
I like so much this hotel, every time i go this hotel because of its best service, delight food availble,
Their Panang Curry is amazing!
I enjoyed my food here. Place got busy and had a lot of to go orders as well. Everyones dishes look very good.
Mine was a little heavy on the basil. I got Thai spicy and it was hot but not Thai hot. Great flavor and ate all of it.
Would try again and have them hold the basil.
Good food. You can no longer quickly call in an order and are instead confronted with a message telling you to order online instead. I often order from them when I'm in the area and driving. After looking at the order system, the pricing is ~30% higher than the 'in restaurant menu'. Weird and guess I'm done. Food is 4 stars, hating your carry out customers 1 star.
First trip there. Had the pineapple fried rice and the trio sampler for appetizer. The food was served hot and delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will be coming back.
Yum!
Ordered Seafood Pad Thai, it was terrible, seafood was muddy, chewy and dry. 20 dollar wasted….
The Phad Kee Mow satisfied a craving that I did not know I had. I fell in love with this dish. The atmosphere is calm and the food is spicy! Do not worry; you can ask for it mild.
You will not be disappointed.
I accidently went to this restaurant twice. The first time was about 5 years ago and the last time was a couple days ago. I forgot that I had been to this restaurant, and when I arrived, I knew I had been there before but didn't remember how the food was. The salad dressing was a sugar dressing, the dip for the spring rolls was a sugar sauce with peanuts, the panang curry had probably 1/2 cup sugar in the sauce, and the pad Thai had much too much sugar. Their food is too sweet. Many Thai restaurants in the Kansas City area make the pad Thai too sweet, so I almost never order it, but my friend always orders it, even though it's completely different and not sweet in Florida, where she's from. I love Thai food and eat it often, but this restaurant puts so much sugar in their food that I couldn't eat it. I hate sending food back, but I literally couldn't eat another bite. The sugar sauce ruined the curry, the salad, and the spring rolls. I didn't send everything back, just the curry. The waitress asked if I ever had panang curry, as if it's always sweet. I have had Thai about once every few months for the past 5 years and about once every month or more before I moved out this way from Lawrence because the Thai food west of here is really not sweet and tastes great. I've never had panang curry as sweet as they make it here. The panang curry I'm used to, and enjoy, is savory and delicious. Their curry was not good at all. As a replacement meal, I got the pad kee mow, as they assured me it wasn't sweet. They were right, it wasn't sweet, but it wasn't great, either. The noodles were too soft. I ate it without complaint because I'm not the complaining type, unless something is real terrible. I will have to remember never to go back to this restaurant. I gave a 2-star review because their staff was patient with my friend taking a long time to order and answering all of her questions, and they brought me a replacement meal without any fuss.
Wow great lunch spot. Had the pad kee mow. It was amazing.
Our go to for Thai food! So good!!! We eat here or take out at least 3 to 4 times a month. Consistently delicious. We usually get Pad See Ew, Pad Thai or Basil Fried Rice with Pork. We get ours Spicy and Thai Hot level. However you can also order mild, medium or spicy. Go! You won't be disappointed.
This is one of my favorite Thai food places. My favorite dish is yellow seafood curry on the dinner menu, yum!
Food is tasty and served with love.
I've had Thai in many different places around the world to include Thailand. This place is TOPS in my book. I ordered the Chicken Satay and Green Curry.
The Satay is flavorful and well balanced.
Don't ask for SPICY when ordering curries here. My Green was amazing, but I think I overstepped my bounds. One level down would be the best...for me.
Will definitely come back.
Love the food but I ordered my food to go at 10:30 am to be picked up at 12:30 and my food wasn’t even ready till 12:45. Just frustrating when it’s a simple order and your on your lunch hour.
