Food is decent quality. But, I will never return. Why? Because of the owners greed.

After spending almost $40 on two entrees, and asking for a small container of the red chili siracha sauce for one of the to-go meals, I was told that they would have to charge me for the sauce. Now mind you, it’s not about the 50 cents coming out of my pocket. No, it’s the principle after spending nearly $20 per entree that the greed of this owner shines through.

So, for the owner of 5-Star, I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at your restaurant every year for many years. That streak has now come to an end due to your shortsightedness as I will not be returning. This is due to the fact you are trying to nickel and dime your customers for condiments that should already be included with your increased high prices.

In addition to that issue, one of the dishes ordered was supposed to have scrambled egg as part of the ingredients (Pad See Eiw), but that ingredient has been missing the last 2 times that dish was ordered. Could be due to the high cost of eggs and desire of the owner to increase his profit even more by excluding it from the recipe.

While he may earn an extra 50 cents on the condiments, he’s lost hundreds of dollars from a customer who used to be a regular patron and who now will drive past 5 star Thai and visit a worthy competitor who understands that long term relationships generate more revenue than short term 50 cent containers of siracha.

I did take out today. I ordered the Kow Soi, the Beef Noodle Curry which was advertised for $17.00 on the chalkboard as you was walk in.
I didn't pay attention and I was overcharged and charged for beef!???!! Not happy. 😞 Was too expensive for what I got.

This has become our regular Thai place. The food is excellent and service is excellent. We love all the curries and satay, and love all the specials, especially anything with mussels. It is also great to stock up on the market to cook at home.

This was my go to Thai restaurant for years. I always order red curry with chicken but the last 2 times I have ordered, I have gotten very sick. I am lactose intolerant and never have issues with coconut milk based sauces. We ordered take out last night and the sauce appeared separated/curdled. Five Star Thai must be supplementing the sauce with milk now instead of pure coconut milk. Beware if you have issues with dairy.

I'm guessing the kitchen is short staffed and the server wants to bring food to the diners when ready? Odd experience. Staff friendly, prompt to refill water and pick up dirty dishes. Prices reasonable. Small selection of Thai grocery items available for purchase in the retail section of the place. Overall good, we'll be back.

Wow food at this place has gotten gradually worse every year. This time was horrible. Egg rolls had raw dough and filling horrible flavor. Rangoon no crab and advertised cream cheese with carrot and onion — only solid cream cheese and undercooked as well. Tom kha coconut soup horrible not even close to how it should taste. Was more like canned cream of mushroom soup. Main dish had no flavor. I could only taste bad vegetable oil. No spices, salt, nothing. Was supposed to have brown spicy sauce. Fried rice horrible. Staff was very young and having loud open conversations on the floor critiquing the youngest member. Very unprofessional. Sorry to say we will never go back.

I had a craving for moderately spicy noodles dish of some sort. 5 Star didn't disappoint.

My mother and I went to this place for the first time and the food and service were terrible! I ordered drunken noodles, and they weren't even cooked, and the meat was raw. They looked like chitterlings. I asked the server to take them back and take them off the bill, and she was extremely rude and nasty. Our server was Lisa, and she was rude upon us entering this establishment. My mother and I are Black women, and we noticed she was significantly nicer and attentive to other customers who happened to be White.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place! Please take your money and time elsewhere that has good service and quality food. Lisa should not be serving.

This place is awesome. Their food literally makes me smile. I always get the same thing, fried rice chicken curry. Excellent quality food, the people who serve/work there always seem to be in a good mood and the environment is clean and welcoming.

Editing from 5 stars to 3. My food now comes out before my gfs which is kind of awkward and not by like a minute or two but maybe 5-6 minutes. Rangoon aren't hot/fresh anymore, they used to be so fresh they'd burn my tongue (which is good) now they're room temp at most. Portions are definitely cut from what they used to be. My gf used to take a box everytime now she doesn't and I easily noticed I'm not as full and this isn't just from one visit, it seems very intentional. More than likely won't be coming here anymore which is a shame. The taste is still good but everything even the service now is going from great to nothing special.

BEST Thai food in the NW Indiana area! Extensive menu, efficient service and genuinely nice staff. Always a great experience! Dine in or takeout available. The owners care deeply about quality and have developed a loyal clientele. You won't be disappointed!

I SPECIFICALLY asked the bean sprouts in the dish to be fully cooked because of health concerns. They confirmed it would be fully cooked. But it did not come fully cooked. If they weren't gonna cook it all the way, I would have asked to leave it out of the dish. Unnecessary risk to my health!

Sometimes it can be a big ask for restaurants to live up to their names, but Five Star Thai has no issue with that. Whenever I come to visit my parents, we like to order from here to go, but recently I finally had the privilege to dine in. I’m a sucker for a good Panang curry, and here is no different. You get plenty of food and can usually make two meals out of it. Overall, the food is fantastic and the service is great as well. To be honest, this is probably the best Thai place in all of The Region.

Just moved to Merrillville a month ago and I was determined to find a good Thai restaurant :D I have been here 4 times already. The customer service and food portions are great. The low prices are another win. I’ve only tried the Pad Ka Pow and I love the flavor. It was exactly how I like it. I raved about this place to my mom who was in town and she tried the Bangkok chicken and the Fire Dish but my mom didn’t care for either (neither did I when I did a taste test lol). They weren’t spicy at all to us. We’re used to the abundance of flavor and spiciness with the Pad Ka Pow dish so those dishes were underwhelming. We’ll just stick to what we know. I definitely still recommend this place!

Our family gets take out from 5 Star often, but they offer some AMAZING specials when you dine in. Their food never disappoints... Always fresh and delicious. The small grocery store attached has a nice selection as well.

Service was very good, and our waitress could not be nicer. My wife had Thom Yum soup with chicken and ginger chicken as her entree. The chicken in both the soup and her entree was abysmal. The chicken was chopped very fine, but the pieces of meat were all full of chicken meat strands. The taste was off as well. My wife could not even smell/taste any ginger in the ginger chicken. This seems to be a ChiThai restaurant now and not exclusively Thai (Maybe under new ownership?). Anyway, the food was terrible.

This used to be our favorite Thai food place . They recently switched to dark meat chicken and not sure if due to that but the food was also very greasy. We have never had dark meat in Thai food and it was not appetizing. Also, I did not see a “warning” regarding 5e change. Apparently they made the switch because white was too expensive? I would have rather paid a little bit more than have been disappointed with the lack of quality and sacrifice to taste. Service was good.

This place puts the Chicago Chinatown Thai places to shame. Reasonably priced and quick. We love living close to Five Star Thai. One of my top five Northwest Indiana places to eat.

We have only ordered food to go from here in the past but we decided to sit down and eat today. I like it even more now that I saw how clean it is and how nice everyone is. One of the best places to eat we have discovered since moving to Crown Point.

Boy, this is such a gem, and a neat story - taught everything by her Thai parents. Probably one of the best in northwest Indiana.

We love this local restaurant for the pot stickers, noodle dishes and broccoli fried rice. You can choose from a variety of meats for all dishes or tofu if that is your preference. Tell them how spicy too. We take our orders to go, and it is usually ready in 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the day of the week. No more options for delivery (as of May 2022). Only dine in or take out.

We don't have decent Asian fare where I live. I used to live in an area with lots of great Asian restaurants. I miss that. I ate here with my daughter and grandkids during a visit. I had pepper steak and the others had various curry dishes. We also had some appetizers. Everything was delicious. Portions are a good size and prices are reasonable. This isn't a fancy place, but clean and spacious. The food is the star of the show and we'll worth a visit. The food is as good or better than at any other Thai restaurant I've been to.

I've been coming here for almost 20 years. Yes before that add the extra space for the store. Food has always been great. Went there yesterday for National 🙏🏾🇹🇭 Khanom Tom day. Ended up talking with the owner about Muay Thai for about an hour. I tried Mango sticky rice for the 1st time, awesome. Got the chicken satay as always as well as fire 🔥 dish with chicken. It was great as always. Sa wa dee krup 🙏🏾..🥊

It's been awhile since I've been here , but the last time I was here the food and service was great .
But unfortunately I have mixed feelings about this place now . I actually thought this place was closed down because the windows and door was completely covered with paper and the door was locked . Today I was in the area by 5 Star Thai Cuisine , I noticed a open sign was on . So I parked the car went in with high hopes of having some great Thai food again. All I got was addatude from the girl who takes the order at the register, and the 2 orders I got , well the salute calamari was good for the small portion that was given . But for the sour soup with sea food , well the sour hot soup with sea food . The broth was good and most of the sea food , but the calamari was over cooked and tasted like it was old or leftover and recooked .
I just hope that this not just the tip of the iceberg of things to come .

This place is fantastic! We love their Thai food. It's not the most authentic in the area however their spin on the Thai classics are particularly delicious. Be warned that there is a lot of peanuts in dishes. For example, I can taste peanut butter in the panang curry, it is seriously divine, but if you have a nut allergy let the staff know!

I got pad thai with chicken, and it was really good!! But they charged me extra for chicken, which is not on the online menu, which should be updated. They also gave me a really cheap fork that I couldn't even use to stir the noodles. But the food it good!
