Simple strip-mall eatery providing a variety of Thai dishes, including vegan options & desserts.
I've been to many good Thai places especially living in the city, but didn't expect that one of the best Thai places will be in Morton Grove. Lai Thai is exceptional. Their Panang curry sauce on all their food is amazing with the perfect sweet to savory ration and any spiciness level you want. Their Panang catfish is and the crispy flat panang noodles are some of favorites. Servers are also very attentive to you!
I usually really like this place so decided to try something new and decided to get the Pad kamio( hope I spelled that right) it states on menu and I was told when I ordered over the phone, it comes with shrimp and chicken. Well it came with chicken and in the photo you can see my one shrimp. That I didn’t care one lonely a*^ Shrimp. The staff is friendly and the food is great but that’s a fail when the dish cost reflects two proteins and you don’t actually receive that.
Small cozy restaurant , perfect for lunch but not for a big party!
The food was very good and they got it ready in less than 10 min. Also the portions were pretty reasonable and the waitress were very nice and checking all the time.
PS : Get the Ice Thai Latte , is delicious 🤤
I recommend this place ☺️
If you're eager to try Thai cuisine, Lai Thai Restaurant is an excellent choice.
Begin your meal with the crispy and flavorful Spring Rolls.
For the main course, the Seafood Curry and Beef Pad See Ewe are must-tries, both bursting with authentic Thai flavors. Additionally, the curry dish with pea pods offers a delightful taste that complements the other dishes well.
The ambiance at Lai Thai is warm and inviting, making it a great place for a relaxed meal. The service is quick and attentive, ensuring you have a pleasant dining experience.
Lai Thai Restaurant promises a delicious journey through Thai cuisine that you won't forget.
Just happened to spot this gem while heading to a completely different restaurant that happened to be closed, and thank God it was! The ambiance was upscale, yet everything was the perfect price! Staff were all friendly and attentive. Many healthy options, yet taste was not sacrificed. The cucumber salad was so flavorful, and the golden bags or crispy wonton was one of the best I've ever had. My chicken and vegetable entre was the perfect portion. My husband loved the spicy pad kimao and the mango Panna cotta was a delicious light dessert. Will definitely be coming here often!
Lai Thai Restaurant is a lunch spot that should never be missed. So, calling all people who love Thai food visit! Ha, let me get into it! The food and LTR is in my top 5 Thai restaurants in Illinois! The food quality is amazing and the flavor is the closest to Thai food that I have had. Or at least there is what I think. Can’t go wrong with the pad Thai! The service is great, waitresses check in often and are able to give recommendations. The atmosphere or ambiance like I call it, really is laid back back anyone can feel comfortable ordering food. The color scheme of the restaurant is vibrant really and I personally like it. Overall, one of the best Thai spots that is small business owned where the food has a personality of its own! You can’t go wrong giving LTR a try!
Today I eat at La Thai restaurant around 3 PM and I was disappointed. The steam shrimp appetizer lack flavor, the Penang curry was too sweet and it only has five shrimp and Lao Thai did not have sticky rice with mango. The waitress were eating at a corner table and I felt they wanted me to leave so they could have dinner together. I spent $26 for the bill. Average compared to other Thai restaurants. The Thai tea was very good but served in a plastic container with a straw.
Awesome Thai food. Been coming here for years. Never disappoints.
Wonderful service, warm atmosphere, delicious food. Crab Rangoon was delicate and flavorful, chicken satay was on point. Panang curry was rich and delicious. Even the mango pana cotta was absolutely perfect.

Delicious

My family comes by rather frequently but i've never left a review. The food is Exceptional. The chicken satay with the peanut sauce is full of flavor and tender. The kanom jeeb is cooked to perfection as well, it had a very nice and tender texture. Additionally, their thai curry, pad see ewe, and fried rice are full of flavor and portioned very generously. Apart from food the service is very nice and friendly. Overall very good, give it a try.

I recommend this place ☺️
We got carry out and the portions are so small I had to go and buy more food from another restaurant. The cashew chicken was about a half a cup of food in a cup of juice and 6 tbl of rice. Hardly an appetizer. Super disappointing.
It’s alright, better fresher Thai food out there.
Long-Time Customer - Terrible Experience Today; Will NOT Be Coming Back
My family and I ordered the Three Flavor Fish, which, according to the menu, is 'lightly fried till crisped.' However, when it arrived, it was clear that it had been fried for far too long. The waitress gave us a dull dinner knife to cut through the fish. I’m not exaggerating when I say cutting into this fish was like cutting through a thick piece of cardboard with a butter knife. After several minutes of struggling, we finally tasted the fish, and it was extremely tough on the inside and overly crunchy on the outside. It was obvious that the fish had been overcooked and left in the fryer for too long. Having eaten many Red Snapper dishes at various Thai restaurants, this was by far the worst we've had. The high price of $46 only added to our disappointment.
We kindly informed the head waitress that the fish was overcooked and very difficult to eat. Her response was, "Oh ok, sounds good," before she walked away and did not inform the chefs about our issue. We understand that mistakes happen in the restaurant business, but the lack of any visible concern or effort to address our complaint was disheartening. Most restaurants would offer a slight discount or at least inquire if there was something they could do to rectify the situation, especially when the issue concerns their most expensive dish. None of this was offered, and we ended up paying and leaving.
I’ve ordered takeout from this place several times before and never experienced such poor service. I would advise anyone considering Thai food to avoid this restaurant and try 'Chef of Siam Thai' or 'Krua Thai' instead. At least the staff at those places treat you like a valued customer.
I have been going here for as long as I can remember (10+ years). Genuinely my fav tai food in the Chicagoland area, and I’ve lived all over IL. Every tai spot I go to, I compare to this place. Lai Thai is the best. The chicken pad tai with golden bags is my go-to.

Lai Thai is one of those places that just gets it right.Service is excellent too, regular refills of teas and water. Prompt service. Food came fast. The Lad Nar Chicken was exquisite with ample chicken pieces and wonderful sauce. Noodles were cooked to perfection. Good quantity and excellent quality for affordable price. This is a great neighborhood place everyone should try out
Can't believe such high reviews are here.
Green curry, Pad thai, spicy noodle soup etc. everything was too corn syrupy and sweet. I don't understand why Pad thai is colored with ketchup. Everything taste like ketchup. They were friendly but will never go back. Feels awful after eating.
Excellent Thai food here at Lai Thai! Their menu was huge and great. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I ordered their spring rolls with plum sauce and cashew chicken. The food was served very hot and fresh! I highly recommend this place, worth visiting!
It’s been a while since I’ve had dinner here. The decor has changed and I didn’t come during Covid since it was only carry out for long after that as well. I enjoyed the comfortable booths that have been added. Service can be hit or miss here, but we were lucky this time. Food came out at a decent pace. Now for the food, I decided to try the Pad Panang noodles with chicken and I really enjoyed the crunchy noodles that I wasn’t expecting so I ordered a takeout of it for my son at home. My husband had the Pad See Eiw but he liked my noodles as well. Spring rolls were good but I will ask for the sauce on the side because they put too much on them for me. The menu has changed with fewer options than in the past. I’ll try to take photos next time.
Delicious and authentic Thai food. Great service.
The previous cook was fantastic. The newer one so so. But it's a good place for rice noodles and typical thai food.

Green curry and shrimp wonton are so gooood. Cute and quiet little place!
Didn't get to snag photos/videos but ordered take-out for dinner: an order of Spring Rolls, Chicken Pad Thai, and Cashew Chicken Entree (comes with Jasmine White Rice). Excellent and tasty food and decent portions for under $30. Called my order in and was told that my order would be ready in 25min and it sure was. Friendly staff and quick service. Restaurant had a good amount of people dining in. Wouldn't mind dining in myself next time.
Wife and I enjoyed the food... garlic chicken and pineapple shrimp curry
The food here is phenomenal... but the place is tiny and seating isn't the best. We were seated near entrance and each time the door opened, it was cold. I'd recommend take out over dining inside the restaurant. Also, one particular server has an attitude and is quite brash, and does not provide adequate service ( ie. Drinks not refilled, forgets condiments, does not pace meal well) the other server is super sweet and efficient. Guess there are good and bad servers everywhere... but food is delicious... their pineapple curry dish is amazing.
Our favorite Thai restaurant in the area. Great food. Very good menu with reasonable prices. Staff is very friendly and fast. The dining is cozy with no street noise, despite being at a pretty busy intersection.
Used to love this place. Last 2 x we ordered food was more bland and hair in food. After reading others complain of hair, I almost wonder if its on purpose? Disappointing bc I loved the panang curry dishes from here.
This one of our favorite Thai restaurants. The food is excellent!!! Their many has so many great choices. I really enjoy the Golden Noodle Soup....
They have great food and the prices are great!!!
Absolutely amazing! Staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. I am definitely going back
We went there for dinner on Monday night. The place was half full and a lot of orders were placed for pick up.
The food was great, prices are low and service fast and friendly.
The main entries were of moderate size, so plan to have appetizer as well. The spicy dish (Seafood Curry) was rather mild, you may want to ask a hot sauce on a side.
We were looking for nice Thai place and eventually we found that one. Definitely will come again.
Didn't like the pepper steak curry but liked the atmosphere and fried rice. Servers were rude and sarcastic .

Ordered spicy Thai fried rice. Very disappointed because I looove Thai fried rice. It was flavorless and bland. For $11 I wont be going back.
Excellent Thai food!!! I’ve been eating here for years! Get the Panang Noodles with extra basil!
I was looking for a decent Thai food restaurant and was surprised to find such delicious meals at a very affordable cost, generally 10 to 12 dollars per meal whether it's lunch or dinner. My cousin and I ate there 3 days in a row to try different dishes. I especially liked the sweet almond beef, the bean thread salad and the spicy basil dishes.
Probably the best take out thai food in North area. The place is small but extremely busy. Relatively inexpensive but well worth it. Tom yum soup and pad thai's are great. Try the golden bags these are awesome so are the Angel wings!!

Food is way too sweet and is unsavory.
The apps are ok but way too overpriced for the quality and portion size.
There was a long wait time for our food, almost an hour long. The menu also didn't have a lot of diverse options. We ordered the Pad See Ew and it's main flavor was suger, really sweet. Also ordered the salad and it was just a chopped salad with peanut sauce, again really sweet. The wonton soup was good, and egg rolls too. Service overall was okay and we were treated kindly, but the wait time really took away from the experience as everyone couldn't eat together because the meals came out intermittently.
Very good food and very nice people.
Very good food, informal vibe.
Sadly...I was very disappointed as I have dined in at this restaurant before. Take out tonite, was cashew chicken. I specified med. spicy, and extra onions and cashews. The food had little to no flavor. Not spicy, and quite bland. When I arrived home to eat...I also found the tiniest box of rice...child size. Barely enough for an adult size portion. It was more like a left over size one might take home. Also, I wanted to order fresh spring rolls..a typical appetizer. This was un available. I had hoped the main dish would be flavorful and satisfying, but no, it was not.
Isn't that what is expected of Thai dishes...Flavor ?
Highly disappointing.
My first visit to this restaurant. Service was quick and plesant. I ordered take out. My order included Shrimp and Chicken Pad Thai, Beef with mixed vegetables, Satay Chicken skewers and Pot Stickers. Only the beef dish was eatible, everything else tasted the same, I believe all I tasted was fish sauce. Will not eat here again
Nice place, good food, friendly people.
Great Thai food. Wait staff is friendly and very helpful.
Restaurant should be called Lie Thai instead because there was nothing authentic about it. Even the dishes I asked for spicy were grossly sweet with barely any heat including the Pad Thai and the Tom Kha soup. The sauce on the beef salad tasted like Catalina dressing for those of you who are old enough to remember that. Such as disappointment.
Best Thai food in the area. Great service and definitely the best food.
Bad service for the server.
I get this every other week so freaking delicious. I always go with the basil beef or spicy catfish
The owners are really sweet! This is a great local Thai spot that never disappoints. It is affordable, a good sit down or take out spot, and I highly recommend!
Second time coming. Good is good service is good. I called and place and order for pick up. My food was hot and ready when I walked in.
Been visiting since 1998 but upgrading to a fancier interior the service and quality getting really bad.
Lai Thai is one of the best Thai restaurants I have ever dined at. I have had several of their entrees and have never been disappointed. If you find yourself in the Niles/ Morton Grove area, I recommend you try it.
Dear friends!
The other day we visited your restaurant again, which has long become our favorite. We were glad to see your familiar friendly faces, not to mention your delicious dishes: someone likes your hearty soup, someone likes curry, and someone likes ginger chicken. Everyone can find a dish to their liking. Your prompt and pleasant service is especially appreciated. Your smiling faces are the best seasoning for any meal.
We are reminded of the words of King Solomon: “There is nothing better for a person than to rejoice and do good in life, and that a person should eat and drink and enjoy his work. It is a gift from God” (Ecclesiastes 3, verses 12 and 13). Thanks to you, we can enjoy delicious food, because it is a gift from our loving Father.
We wish you to continue to enjoy your work and more grateful customers!
Waited an hour for my food. People who had smaller orders got theirs before mine. Food was decent.
Cozy, great food...best in the general North Shore area. Pad see eew is amazing, along with the Thai fried fried. Spring rolls won't disappoint and neither will the Tom Yum soup.
Been here numerous times. I always order the Pad Kimao. Always fresh, delicious, and hot! Good sauce as well. The staff are always friendly and polite!
I have a red curry it was so good, bathroom need some work, but is okay.
Omg this was a random find and wow my sister and I were mind blown! The food was 10 out of 10 and so was their service. The portion, the price everything was perfect! Employees were so kind and mindful to our dietary restrictions. I’m so glad I found this place, will definitely be coming back. Also their thai iced coffee was chefs kiss!!!
Solid. Good for the very hungry.
We dined in , it's a small place with personal atmosphere . They have a bunch of appetizers that you could make a meal out of . We had about 5 different ones plus a dinner for each . What's nice is that they bring your dinner on a separate plate so you can share if you what to , they also serve alcohol (beer wine drinks)
For take out we would get 1 or 2 dinners to share or 1 dinner and several appetizers , it make you feel like your at a 7 course meal.
We've been coming here for many years and never had a bad meal .
My go to Thai restaurant. Good food ☺️
Always a great meal
Food was good, but there is plenty of room for improvement. I will be back
Great place to eat Thai food. There's plenty space for parking. The size of the restaurant is not that big but it gives you a cozy feeling. If you plan to visit on a Saturday with a group of friends I recommend to arrive before 6 pm.
Tasteless pd thai! Just dry noodles, I could easily made plain noodles at home
Friendly atmosphere, good food, Thai shakes are excellent!!
Had a horrible experience with the older Asian woman there. We order Thai iced teach with very easy ice and she poured more ice than tea. I kindly brought it to her attention and begin yelling at me in front of everyone in the restaurant. Our family paid for the iced teas and left.
Delicious Thai food and terrific charming place to dine.
Lai Thai is a superb restaurant that has amazing Thai food. Affordable and delicious lunch and dinner entrees. Enjoyable community atmosphere. Very enjoyable for Seniors to relax and enjoy a healthy meal. Prompt service with a smile. Lai Thai also serve the best Thai tea all around.
nice, clean enviroment and great taste
Generous portions and great food
Usually no complains( I come here for years ) but this time the salad was horrible, the service slow and brought the wrong food, the staff keep chat chatting and don’t pay attention to the customers.
The food is good However, they give small portions which I don't think is worth the price.
YUCK!
Small plates, bland food, fishy smell seafood(Rotten), just so much better thai around. Vegetables are NEVER cooked!
Prompt service. Food came fast. The Lad Nar Chicken was exquisite with ample chicken pieces and wonderful sauce. Noodles were cooked to perfection. Good quantity and excellent quality for affordable price. This is a great neighborhood place everyone should try out. I am tired of many places charging almost double prices since the Pandemic(it shouldn't be that way). Where as here the great food and service for reasonable price. Please tip well. Please support places like this. Definitely will go again when in that area.
This is my go-to place for great Thai food. Their pad kimao and basil thai style are hands down my favorite dishes. I have asked friends to travel to meet me at this restaurant and they never leave disappointed.
Just delicious 😋. Had a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrees. Everything was super delicious the sauces especially are very good. Place was clean, the service was friendly, the price was good. I'll be back.
Lovely, reasonably priced tasty lunch spot!!
$14 dollar dish and they give you a small scoop of rice are you kidding me? I’m not coming back that’s ridiculous.
Excellent service staff is very friendly and professional specially miss Wendy is very caring and honest person. Need share one incident i forgot stack money on my table during winter miss WINDY come out without winter coat to follow me return of all of my money did not except any gift either, simply saw what classy person she is..lots of RESPECT for you miss WINDY
The food is great. The Golden Noodle Soup is amazing.
I got the hot and spicy with chicken, my mouth is on fire and I had a laugh with the people who made and/or served it due to reacting so much. Very spicy but that is the point of the dish. Service was great, I had a lot of water.
Second time here: I had Yellow curry, very good. I still drank a lot of water. It was not spicy this time.
The food tastes sinfully delicious. The service, impeccable. Loving the place!
We order takeout from here a few times a month. The people are very friendly. The food is always consistently good. We get panang noodles, basil chicken and Thai iced tea. Very much recommend if you’re looking for a solid Thai place.
The best Thai restaurant in Illinois
They have hired a psycho To answer the phone named WINDY. She is rude, and hangs up the phone on people. I asked her if all the Curries have fish Sauce she said YES, so BEWARE vegans and vegetarians. I also asked her if they made anything without fish sauce on the menu and very rudely she replied we can not make ANYTHING without fish sauce. I asked to speak to a manger or the owner and she hung up the phone on me. Very bad customer service and does not serve to the vegetarians and vegans.
Little gem that you need to know about! The food was delicious and very affordable. Clean establishment and the staff was very attentive.
Restaurant was clean, the food was decent!
Consistently amazing, authentic Thai food!
Update: there was a hair in my food
& they made my order wrong… unfortunate. Please increase the hygiene in the kitchen. Also was told they had no beverages available.. strange.
Original review was 5 stars: I only enjoy one dish here the rest aren’t really good. Only other downside is they don't have lunch specials. The service was great server was attentive and refilling water, overall great atmosphere and great experience.
So, every 5y or so I stop at this place, to give it one more chance, in hope that they hired a new chef or they got enough negative feedback or that they somehow revamped the menu. Unfortunately non of this happens...
I'll probably die and wonder about how people who should not be feeding others are opening restaurants...
Not my type of Thai food
Had Spicy Chicken fried rice and my friend had panang curry. Very tasty dishes and good service
Decided to try this place out since it was open later then other restaurants. I got the Pad Thai with beef and Tofu red curry. The Pad Thai with beef only had 5 pieces of beef in the entire dish. It was also supposed to be medium spice level but tasted as if it had none. The tofu red curry seemed to be watered down, it could have been a little bit more creamy.
Food is delicious!! The service is great too. Best Thai food
This has the best pineapple shrimp curry! The staff here is exceptional!
All time favorite Thai food in Chicago! They are authentic and the owner has been here since 1995! Absolutely delicious ❤️
Always delicious. Excellent quality. Wait staff can be difficult to understand at times. But great food!
Great food and friendly staff.
The food is excellent. The staff is very nice.
Honestly, the BEST Thai food in Chicago (or at least for a ten mile radius!) My fav is the pad panang noodles, mild…. Also ginger chicken is very good…. Pretty much you can’t go wrong with anything you order from here. In fact, my mom came to visit and on the plane was seated next to a lady from Thailand. She asked where to get the best Thai food in Chicago, and she said LAI THAI!!! That’s how good this place is!!! Absolutely our families favorite, hands down.
My family and I have been going here for years and are regulars! We love Lai Thai and we recommend to everyone. The food is consistent and the servers are friendly!
Great pad thai, pad soon wen, and pad keep mao. My go to Thai place in the neighborhood.
Good thai food
Very good food! Everyone’s food was packed with flavor.
Green Curry, Yellow Curry, Hot and Spicy beef all great!
Impressed with the soup- Tom Kha with chicken.
Great job
We’ve been loyal customer for this restaurant. Very good food but today I have the worst experience from the person name PT/PD. She was accepting phone orders while not done with my orders yet in person. She let me wait and I told her that this is not good customer service. She typically said “ we’re busy”. I then told her that I will call the owner and will report her, she answered me “ you can go ahead”. Instead of just saying sorry these are all her remarks. Unbelievable, I hope people will not experience this again. Very very bad customer service 😡
Food tastes great at a good price and portions are perfect.
Got takeout before a road trip, quick prep time and decent portions for the price!
Very good Thai restaurant. It’s my go to place for my Thai food fix. Good prices, generous portions and best of all tasty food.
My favorite Thai restaurant and it is surprising such a wonderful Thai restaurant is in the burbs. I work downtown and have rarely found a restaurant there that compares. Their outstanding flavors and freshness are matched perfectly with their friendly and kind service. Highly recommended.
Best Thai in the area. Always fresh and delicious. Friendly staff as well.
Food is always delicious and consistent with very fresh ingredients. Favorite restaurant!
My favorite place. The basil chicken is better here than anywhere I’ve ever had it. And I love the coconut boba!!!
Great thai food. We got the Chicken Rama, veggie thai fried rice, and cashew chicken. We did to go, and enjoyed the food very much.
Very rude server! Mediocre food at best.
This place is the best! They are friendly, fast and always love picking up my food from them. They’ve got me hooked on Thai iced coffee...a must try for coffee lovers! Love their Tofu Pad Thai and the cucumber salad is DELICIOUS. Give them a try...support local businesses!
Friendly staff and good food.
Food is delicious
Great food, have dined many times, food always consistently yummy!
In all the years (20)? that I have dined at Lai Thai, I have never had a bad meal. I no longer live in Niles but even from the North side of Chicago it is still my go to place for Thai food.
The food is very good ,the staff it is very professional and nice .
Forst time there, pretty good
The food is great! And so is the scenery!
