Unassuming eatery serving curries, stir-fries & traditional Thai dishes in simple surroundings.
TL;DR Lack of empathy for long time patrons - No accountability, with burden of proof put on customer for a trivial issue vs trusting feedback
We have been long time customers of Muang Thai- Loved the food of this local small business. We went above and beyond during COVID years to support restaurant. For a loyal customer, we had a horrendous experience and felt disrespected by the owner. We ordered a take-out Gangree with Tofu. We found that there was no Tofu in the curry and potentially meat (chicken?). Called the restaurant and they said you can come back next day to get a new curry. If the inaccurate order wasn't enough where these guys did not take our dietary requirements into account, the next day they showcased disrespectful behavior. I had to explain thrice to different staff members on what had happened. I had to explain again to owner who wanted proof, rather than trusting word of long time customer. For a trivial $15.95 item, they have lost a long time customer/supporter. Plus, am attaching images as proof in this post, that substantiates my point.
Understand that running a restaurant is hard and I have tremendous respect for owners/chef, but you have to be judicious in how you treat customers, when you are the one making mistake.
Nice place on research boulevard. Nice atmosphere and good food. Tried basil fried rice with chicken and veggie spring rolls, both are good. Their choice of spice seasoning and hot sauce are really good. Fried rice well made and quick service. courteous lady at the checkout and very friendly staff.
Tried their basil fried rice last night, arrived almost at closing but the food quality and taste were awesome. Made to taste and very courteous service
First time there. Never going back.
Food did not taste like any Thai food I have had before. Big chunks of onions on everything. Green curry was so bland and did not taste like green curry.
Service was not good. The person who brought the food had his thumb touching the curry (see picture attached). Just horrible.
Server was polite and understood our order. Food took 50 minutes to get to us and as I was about to call it quits, it showed up. Presentation of food was great however my Pad Thai tasted a bit funny. Not bad but like not what I’m used to. I thought it had a ketchup base but after asking at checkout I was told it had paprika seasoning. Everything else was fine but the paprika took me by surprise. Next time I’ll order without the paprika as I feel like it shouldn’t be there.
When we arrived the place was full in all the booths, and was part of the reason why our food was a bit tardy. I was also told a cook/server called out which was also the second reason food was a bit tardy. I gave it a 4/5 stars because of the tardiness and the odd paprika but everything else was delicious!

Service is not good. But food is great.
Food was ready at the time stated for pick up. I got the coconut curry dish and spring rolls . It was A LOT of food I got full with less than half . Perfect place to have yummy leftovers.
Great food
Great food.
Food was DISGUSTING. The egg rolls arrived swimming in (what looked and tasted like) dirty dish water. The spring rolls were so soggy that they had opened and completely fallen apart. The noodles were the most bland I’ve ever tasted in any Asian restaurant. Basically an edible pile of slop. NEVER AGAIN.
Decent Thai food.
Ordered soup there was HAIR in it. Restaurant waiter didn’t do anything. She basically took the soup inside removed the hair and brought it back. So disgusting. Eat here at your own risk. Would have given zero rating if i am able to.
Yumm food. I had vermicelli, tom yum, and red curry.
Didn’t eat the food . The worst Thai food I ever had. Won't be back
We ordered Pad Thai Noodles and Tom Yum Soup. The ingredient wasn't fresh and the sauce are so strong and not typical Thai food season.
We are long time, repeat customers. It was one of the first Thai restaurants in the Cedar Park/North Austin area and service is consistent. It is always one of our go-to places for Thai cuisine.
Fantastic food and outstanding dessert. The place is beautifully designed and clean. Highly recommended!!!
Wife and I always treated wonderfully. Service and food always on point.
Tried food here for the first time. It’s really good. I liked the pad Thai noodles and basil fried rice with chicken and they didn’t disappoint us. Good quality of food.
Just happened to be nearby and decided to try this place for a little dinner. Holy cats was I surprised. This is an absolute hidden gem. The service was awesome! And the food was out of this world. Will definitely go back!
The atmosphere and food are amazing! Clean, tasty! Highly recommend!
Great mix of Thai with some less spicy other Asian options as well. Jungle curry as a regular lunch special for Chiang Mai fans and the staff is SUPER FRIENDLY. No restaurant in the Lakeline area mall area has more good choices.
Great food and service!
Placed it to go order of the tofu tod, monsoon rolls with shrimp, and Bahmee stir fry with chicken. Let's start off with the tofu, it was good, a little watery but good. The spring rolls are excellent as well as the peanut sauce. The Bahmee was okay.. heavy on a sesame oil. Maybe it would have been better if they remembered to add the chicken that I paid for, but who knows now. Overall, The food was just okay.
The vegan options are delicious and the service is terrific. We'd come here weekly if we lived closer.
We have been going to this local family owned and run Thai restaurant since they first opened in 2009. They weren’t getting a lot of traffic when they first opened and we worried if they were going to survive. Thankfully they have and did well even through COVID as they have a pretty big take-out clientele. The food is always consistently and reliably excellent every single time inside the restaurant or picked up and taken home. I love the food and the people who work there.
Whenever family comes in to town that really knows good Thai food they want to go here. My son who now lives in Denver and who has been all over the world, including Thailand wants to go here every time he is in town. The owners recognize us every time we go too.
I can recommend the vegetarian, Pad Ma Kur Yao(V4) the TomKa soup, we get a full hotpot every time, the PadWonSen(E8), honestly everything on the menu is amazing! The curry’s rock, all of them and I have had them all. Tod Mun!(A10) The noodle dishes are amazing, and if you want something truly decadent get the ChuChee!!!(Sp4)
I came here to call in a to go order and realized that I have never written a review and feel really guilty that I have not, as much as I love this place.
I HIGHLY recommend Muangthai, especially if you know what to expect from excellent Thai cuisine.
This is the best Thai food I have ever had. The service was 👍 👍. I love this place.
Cute restaurant! Great service! Delicious food !
Great quaint place with relaxing atmosphere and excellent customer service.
Best place to eat thai food. Large dishes.
We have been coming to this restaurant every friday for lunch for couple of years now. All the staffs are very friendly and the food are excellent. The service is very fast. We have tried all of their lunch menu and love most of them especially the Basil Fried Rice, Curry Massaman, Tom Yum Soup, Tom Kha Soup, Fried Chicken, Bahmee, Pad Kee Mao , and Pad See Ew.
Great spot for some good food. Their deserts are also amazing
The best Thai joint in Austin, TX. Job does a stellar job 👌🏽
My favorite Thai around Lakeline. Been coming here for 15 years
First time there. Never going back.
Food did not taste like any Thai food I have had before. Big chunks of onions on everything. Green curry was so bland and did not taste like green curry.
Service was not good. The person who brought the food had his thumb touching the curry (see picture attached). Just horrible.
BEST THAI FOOD IN AUSTIN!!! Love love love the N7! The owner is always so kind and pleasant and brings the food out herself. I've been going here for well over a decade and the food is amazing. I've had authentic Thai food and THIS IS IT!
Their food is consistently on point and the staff are very friendly. Their Tom Kha is among the best in Austin, and their basil fried rice is absolutely delectable. Highly recommend!
The staff are terrific and the food is excellent. And the place is quiet enough for conversation.
Always good! Fast, polite service with authentic offerings. I love the Larb Chicken salad.
Go here every time I am in the area.
Cheers to the best Thai restraunt!!
I ordered the chicken vermicelli and green tea. I did not order the baby cockroaches that came running out of the teapot handle!!!!! I immediately flagged down the server and showed her what was happening. She quickly apologized and asked me if I wanted another tea. I said, "NO, oh my goodness." I did not eat my lunch and I immediately got up to leave. At the checkout the server requested I pay for the entree. I asked the server if she told the manager what just happened. She said yes ma'am. I told the owner and the owner said that you need to pay for the entree. The server apologized for the inconvenience and I told her. This is not your problem, it is not your fault. Absolutely disgusting and I will never come back here again. I have been a customer for years of this place. Disgusting kitchen nightmare.
A really nice secret in Austin. I always get the coconut curry chicken with spring rolls on the side. Hits the spot.
This Thai place is the best Thai place we’ve ever been to. (And we’ve been to a lot of Thai places) We’ve been coming here every week, and week after week, the quality of the food is consistent. The food is so delicious, flavorful and unique. The service and ambience are warm and friendly. The tofu’s texture is so perfect and soft, and the consistency of the fried tofu is always chewy and crispy to perfection. The tofu also soaks in sauce so well. The veggies are always sautéed just right, and artfully complement the sauce. The Tom Kha soup is the best, with a great balance of salty, sour and spicy. The Papaya salad is an awesome appetizer that packs loads of flavor. The curries have deep flavors that exceed all others. The basil fried rice is so good and really captures the flavor of basil. Pad Khing is great for a mild stir fry that still packs loads of flavor. The Pad Thai here is also really good and has great balance. This Thai place is a must visit.
I regret not getting the name of the hostess, but she was so kind and helpful, the service was fantastic, and the food was so delicious!
Ordered take for basil fried rice with tofu and shrimp noodles. Both the items were below average. No Thai flavors. And the worst part was the tofu was stale tasted so weird and chewy. Not going back
Ordered take out. Pad Thai and yellow curry. Both were surprising and delicious! Recommend and will be coming back for more!
Good place. Good food. Good service.
We like the food here and always do take out. The service and food are always good!
Really gone down hill. Rude, drunk waitresses?
I liked everything except for the red curry it was just not to my preference. I definitely recommend!
It was very good, I highly recommend the Gang Dang Curry, if you can handle it that is 😉😉
If y’all want some stir-fried chunk of plastic hiding in your food, this is the spot for you.
It was the N2: Pad See Iew (perhaps the name of the dish should have been my first clue) – wide flat rice-noodles with egg, Chinese broccoli and chicken. The dish was so-so to begin with. But then the trifecta bite of Chinese broccoli with a bit of chicken and noodle turned into a CRISPY, CHEWY, CHUNK OF PLASTIC. It probably contained meat or veggie in it at some point.
Yes, you want to vomit now? I certainly felt that way as it was IN MY MOUTH. This was an all spoons down moment at the dinner table. Staff were shocked and apologetic and said the meal was on them.
Can’t go back. Just… can’t. Did y’all see the size of that chunk of plastic?!
We hadn't eaten here in years because we had moved to Georgetown, but it was even better today than what we had remembered. I had the Tom Kha soup and E11 Pad Pharam with Pork - oh my gosh, delicious! It reminded me of pork satays with fresh vegetables. The soup was delicious, too.
I have to say that this was the best Thai that I have had in a long time.
The food was good but the service was lacking. The waitress took a while to take our order. After the meal when we requested take out boxes, we never got any. We had to get them ourselves.
Part of the problem a 20% tip is automatically included for "large" parties. Since when were four adults and a child considered a large party?
Further there was an element of dishonesty on part of the restaurant. We requested the bill which was not provided. When paying the bill, I questioned why it was so high. Only then they clarified the tip was already included. If they had provided a bill, like we had requested, we could have seen the tip was already included. Looks like they were trying to get away with double tipping.
So buyer beware!
I did not get a chance to taste the food because I bailed due to the snotty attitude of the woman working the front desk. I’m guessing this attitude is one of the reasons people keep voting for fascist nationalism against their own best interest.
Their Thai Fried Rice and egg rolls tasted so good.
Restaurant is clean, well organized, and spacious. Staffs are friendly and nice. Food taste alright. My Son and I went for lunch, and I really like the Tom Yum soup, but the Pad Kee Mao, its string of noodle was too broken to small pieces. I will come back another time to try other dishes.
This is my first time eating from here and I got take out so maybe it was an off day. I got Pad see ew and tom kha soup. the tom kha tasted really good but the shrimps that were in there were extremely over cooked, to the point of being tough.
the pad see ew was very sweet which isn’t that big of a problem because i know different places make their sauce differently, however the noodles were also over cooked. very soggy and clumped together and didn’t have that chewy feel at all.
Unfortunate that my experience was like this because they are so close to where I live and i would have loved to have a local thai spot!
Would give it a zero if I could. Manager was very rude and showed lot of attitude. Chicken wings were old and was not cooked well and the taste is awful. It was a busy night I get it, but worst service I have ever experienced.
HORRIBLE PLACE… Avoid at all costs.
I visited Muangthai with my friends, hoping for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed due to the poor quality of the chicken wings and the unprofessional behavior of the manager.
The chicken wings tasted like they were made from old, frozen chicken that had been sitting in the freezer for a long time. They were dry, tasteless, and far from what we expected from a Thai restaurant. When we politely rejected the order, we were met with a rude response from the manager. He insisted that the wings were freshly prepared and argued with us about it, despite our legitimate concerns.
To make matters worse, the wings were still included in our bill, and the manager's attitude throughout the entire exchange was unwelcoming and unprofessional.
Although some other dishes we ordered were decent, the overall experience at Muangthai was tainted by the terrible chicken wings and poor customer service. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback.
Omg never again !! pretty bad food we ate chicken wings which were so stale terrible we sent the order back Never again stay away from this place!! Extremely Rude service
Food is always good.
Lunch menu has good items.
I always get the thai iced tea
We're regulars here. The food is great and the staff is attentive. Thai food, we had the mango rice dessert, super sweet with warm and cool textures. Great atmosphere, they have recently remodeled, it's very bright and welcoming. Miss the pre-Covid guitarist.
Cheater's, they charged 20% gratuity for 5 people. When asked they said they recently changed the rule from 6 people to 5. But no board or notice were placed on the counter. Ridiculous
Very Bad Staff response. Also the food quality was bad, fried rice had way too much oil.
Love the food and service!
Delicious. If you can't handle spicy, be sure to ask for mild.
Best beef noodle soup ever!
Delicious, fast service and friendly staff.
Awesome Thai food . Appetizers , entrees everything was fantastic.
I ordered pad Thai without egg and apparently they didn’t include veggies at all.
Basil fried rice was too oily ,But the taste was good and reached expectations.
Good authentic Thai cuisine!
Best Thai food I’ve had and all of Austin!
I ordered Pad Kee Mao with 4 🌶 and its really hot and very tasty. The flat rice noodle is full of wok flavor (for those that appreciate Asian fried noodles/rice you know what i meant). They do have lunch menu served with soup or salad during weekdays. The tomyum soup is another highlight from thr restaurant. Will come back again soon.
Placed an order around 4:30/5 for pick up at 6:15. At 6:19 they hadn’t even started one of the meals we ordered.
The food is awesome. Will make a special trip to eat here again.
12/11/22
I don't know who's cooking ,
I know it isn't Asian people.
I've gone twice in 2 weeks the seasoning are off the food was terrible the shrimp was over cook and gummy.
It use to be delicious.
I will not be returning.
Over price food for terrible tasting food.
I hope people are reading.
Always delicious! The food is great and the staff is so sweet.
The fried dumplings and tom kha soup were really good!
The Tom kha is so amazing. And the green papaya salad.
MuangThai used to be our favorite Thai restaurant years back, excellent ambience, lovely staff, delicious food. Now another management took over. The basic TomKha soup itself was so bad, tasted like dish washed water. Everything we "ordered to go" was bad, low quality. Stopped going here!!
With all the highly positive reviews out there, I just think the chef’s not in a great mood today. The food was average at best. Ordered yellow curry fried rice and massaman curry. The service was slow too.
One of the places to get average Pad Kra Pao. It is too watery. Make sure to ask for ground meat.
Terrible customer service here. Spoke to patti on phone. They skimped on the order and then i got total horrible customer service. Guys there’s lots of Thai restaurants in the area- don’t waste your time here
Always had good food here. Service can be slow at times but its worth the wait for food.
I got pad mee kao with tofu and crispy duck stir fry. The pad mee kao is my usual go to order and it's one of the best in austin. The seasoning is always on point loaded with fresh veggies. The crispy duck was tasty as well and it came with a side of rice
A low-key affair with some of the best Thai food in town. Generous portions.
Very authentic tasting food, very clean!!! I wish they would open up in San Antonio because they're lacking good thai like this!!
The food we got was very tasty. We got the crispy duck and the panang curry. Both were tasty and serviced with plenty of rice. The panang was sweeter than I expected. We will go back and try other dishs.
The perfect Thai Restaurant
This is the best Thai food I’ve had. They’ve won several awards from the Austin American Statesman for “Best Thai in Austin.”
So I came in this restaurant and ordered the papaya salad and fried rice with tofu and egg because i don’t eat meat and omg the presentation of the food was amazing, and the flavors was so awesome. I definitely will make this my go to from now on!
Also, I am very big about cleanliness. This restaurant is super clean. I visited this restaurant three times in one week !!!
please advertise that if I call an order @ 9:15PM but can't because the kitchen closes at 9:15, but the website says open until 10 you could save people - who, by the way were counting on your good food and have frequented your place often - a lot of disappointment. Seriously, folks you really must do better than this and get with it.
Great place to eat thai food. Friendly staffs especially the owner. It’s a family owned business and very authentic. Sweet sticky rice with mango for dessert is really good.
Looove their chicken friend rice!!
Oh. My. Goodness.
This was an excellent choice. Wow.
Appetizer: Fried Dumplings
"Fried wonton skin stuffed with ground pork, crab meat, and bamboo shoots. Served with sweet and sour black sauce."
These were so delicious!
Entree: Tom Yum Ta-lay Heang
"Stir-fried scallops, shrimp, squid and mussels, basil, tomatoes, scallions and onions in house hot and sour sauce."
The sauce in this dish was amazing!
Recommended.
Best Thai in Austin area.
One of my favorite Thai place in Austin and even outside of Austin. Their food is so tasty and always hits the spot. The quality of the dishes is also consistent, we’ve never had it made poorly. I am also really appreciative of the fact that they can make most of their dishes vegetarian and without fish sauce, including the curries. Many other places have them premade, and so won’t make them without fish sauce unlike muangthai
Loved the food.. i asked for extra extra extra spicy they gave me 20 peppers.. omg was so amazing you have to eat here
Had this at 5 stars because it is typically very, very good. The last two weeks or so our usual order has become less predictable which is pretty disappointing to say the least. There is often too much of one ingredient and not enough of another make our curry very unbalanced when it's typically thick and luxurious.
Please don't make me find a new Thai place.
Do not order a pickup order. These last 3 times a pickup order has taken over 1 hr and 30 minutes. I understand if you are busy but don't state pickup will be ready and then you wait.30+ minutes at the restaurant for your order. So sad as I have been a regular for over 5 years.
i ordered the Chu CHee (it's a specialty dish with catfish) and it was amazing. The sauce was delicious and I love that they had the option to add a side order of steamed noodles which just made the dish even better.
This place is so so good and love coming here! Dishes are properly Thai spicy and the specials are what I love most, highly recommend!!
The interior is really nice and clean. The food was very quick for take out
Food was over cooked...Pad Thai noodles were mushy...paid $2.00 for 3 shrimp....😒
Love this place! The menu prices are very reasonable and the food is amazing. I usually order the Pad Cashew with tofu. Usually not too busy, nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. This pretty much is my main thai restaurant I go to anytime I'm in the mood for thai. Only a 8 - 10 drive and it is right off Research Blvd in northwest ATX. Definitely recommend this place.
Best Thai in North Austin. I really enjoy the cash price discount as it helps me tip out the awesome wait staff at 20% of the non discounted price.
The rice was not cooked enough, pointed it out, and said that's the best they can do, did not even offer me another dish...guess was the manager or chef
At Muangthai, the food is amazing. I've introduced many friends to this place, and they have inturn introduced it to their friends - which is the ultimate praise for a restaurant! The coconut water drink here is unlike any other I have tasted!
Another thing I love about Muangthai is the ambience. The interior decoration is a sight to behold, and welcoming! Shout out to the friendly staff. On my second time there, the staff remembered my preferences accurately - water with no ice, etc.
Food is OK and very spacious.
the best service and the BEST curry in town. they make it as spicy as I like it and dont skimp on the portions. thank you so much
Fantastic restaurant
We walked in and got seated right away. Drinks came out quick, as did the crab rangoon eggrolls we order as a starter, these are delicious and you should order them.
I order the red curry (Thai spicy), was not over powering, my wife got braised beef noodles and some Tom Yum soup. My wife took some leftovers home her bowl was huge.
When in season get the mango sticky rice, it's great!
The Chiles in fishsauce was something I have never had before but it added a kick to curry.
The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food. We are adding Muangthai to our rotation.
The food is really good.
Don’t miss the sp4, fish in red curry!
Pad Thai tastes like the sauce is ketchup. Pad Ki Mao is OK. Curry was serviceable.
Not sure why it took me so long to write this as I’ve been coming here for years now. Food is awesome specially the monsoon rolls , Thai fried rice, N7 noodle soup! Always exceeds expectations for my family.
Too slow to deliver, seriously understaffed. If you want to ruin your Friday or weekend, you may visit.
Our go to Thai. Thom ka fire bowl every time. Love the curry (I'm a green curry fan, hubby goes for the Massaman), though the crispy duck is also delish. When in season, get the sticky rice with mango.
Best Wonton soup in town!
Best Thai food in Cedar Park.
It took at least 45 minutes to place 3 meals and they are not that busy. There are only 12 customers in the restaurant.
Food is ok! I will not come back and not recommend any one if you dont have 1 hour to wait for your food.
