Thai Japanese Restaurant (Our Location next to Granville Red Line Station)
Ordered green curry for takeout and was disappointed to find that it was totally watery and flavorless- just some lightly colored water. When I contacted the staff, I was informed that this is the way the curry has been prepared for many years and I should order something else next time.
I enjoyed my experience here. Went with a large group and we ordered a variety of dishes off the menu. Everyone loved the taste of the food and the prices were very reasonable. I had the ginger wonton soup which I highly recommend! For my main course I had their special crab fried rice which was delicious and was a large portion. I was pleased to taste real crab in the dish instead of imitation crab. It was a little on the salty side but still tasty and very satisfying.
The only dish that was kind of meh for me were the pork buns. Decent, but easily the most underwhelming dish of the several that I tried. Good price as well for them though.
Overall I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for mid-range Thai fusion!
I have been a fan of this restaurant for over 10 years. Although the ownership of the restaurant has changed over the years, the food and the service are still good. I recommend the hotPopeye, lychee smoothie, seaweed salad and sticky rice with mango! Everything was delicious and the servers were kind and excellent.
Disappointing experience, mainly because of how bad the food tasted. My boyfriend used to work here as a server, and it seems the quality of the food isn’t the same. We ordered: coconut shrimp, satay, “tom zab” (tom yum), garlic noodles and red duck.
The appetizers were honestly okay - they were much better than expected. But once the tom zab soup came out, it was so disappointing. The broth is just not right, and we have had many tom yum in the past, and this was just not good. They basically just served us broth and three lonely shrimps in the broth. And the broth was just really really sour, in a bad way.
The red duck (duck breast in curry) was oily, bland and flavorless; it also has a very strong clove-y taste like chemicals?
Garlic noodles was salty, but it was the better dish out of the three.
On a Saturday night, we were the only people there (already a bad sign). But when the phone rang twice, the server, who then was taking our orders, had to excuse herself to pick up the phone, while the other person at the counter just stood there.
Also, they don’t seem to be serving sushi anymore. It was crossed out on all of their menus, and the sushi counter was closed as well.
Seems like the cooking here needs to be revamped. Not sure if they were ‘cooking’ either because we heard the microwave running most of the time.
Truly truly disappointing experience. 2 stars for 1. The server and 2. The appetizers.
Great food, but lacking in service. Not the server’s fault to a certain extent because she seems to be the only person serving this entire restaurant. Y’all need to schedule more people to work. I sat here for 15 minutes waiting for spicy mayo for my dumplings. By the time I got it they were already cold. They also “forgot” to make my roll. Good food but come on.
I have come here for lunch several times. The staff is always super friendly and attentive. There are lots of gluten-free options. I especially enjoy the chicken and rice soup. The broth has a great flavor. Tastes like fresh stock. They have lunch specials, but I usually order a main dish on its own. The pad Thai is good and so is the basil chicken. The restaurant is right next to the Granville red line stop but the noise blends into the background.

Great service. Friendly and fast.

Great food and great prices, weird AC unit and smell. Probably best for take out but would be happy to go back.
Great food! Nice service. I highly recommend this place.
🤮Chicken pad Thai was garbage. It was not fresh made, the pasta was hard(not fresh)and glued together, the greens were ruberry. The whole thing had an odd smell. They use to make great pad Thai, but not today.
Never going back there again 👎
I have not been in a few months but it was excellent
Got a salmon donburi and it was the smallest portion of donburi I’ve ever had. $20 for 5 thin slices of salmon, a couple fake crab meat, and less than a cup’s worth of sushi rice? A fancier sushi place would have twice the portion for the same price.
The waiter was rude . Will never come back . Didn’t even wanna tip
Great value and delicious food!
Great food at a great price! Def check it out! Also the best Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee I've had in Chicago! Delicious!
Basil fried rice and veggie egg rolls... food very flavorful and fresh!!! I'm glad I stopped in.
Got the pad Thai — best I’ve had in a while!

Great & consistent food, which is rare for a place a menu this big.
We were excited to try this restaurant and stopped in for lunch. I had the rotisserie chicken, and it was the worst meal I've had in a long time. They put it on a grill and press all the juice out, and it's too dry to eat. Definitely don't order that.
However, my friends had decent meals.
Give it a try, but don't order the chicken.
I’ve ordered from Similan Thai Sushi before and ordered a very delicious KAO PAD PHU (Crab Fried Rice) dish. Today, for some reason I thought that I was ordering the same order, not realizing that I was asking for Crab Pad Thai, instead of Crab Fried Rice. Even though I made a mistake by ordering an item that wasn’t on the menu. They were so kind and went above and beyond to prepare a Pad Thai with lump crab meat and it was absolutely fantastic. My apologies for the confusion lol, but I got to say thank you once again for an amazing meal. I highly recommend dining in or ordering takeout from their delicious menu that has a variety of options to choose from.

Food was gross, small portions, way too expensive. Go to chinatown and get for 10$ what I got for 70$
I frequently get carry-out at Similan, and always enjoy my food, and feel it is a good value.
Food was so good, reasonably priced, large portions, staff was great- will definitely be a regular spot for us!
Amazing pad Thai for a great price!

For me crab Rangoon was simply awesome. chicken rice soup was average. Pickup was easy and fast.
Good sushi, especially the fin fin roll. Excellent staff, very friendly
I have been a patron of this restaurant for around four years since back when the restaurant had another name. I often order the Rama chicken or the Pad Thai chicken.
This is a great neighborhood restaurant with polite and respectful management. They consistently well prepare Thai dishes at a great price.
Overtime, this has become my go to choice for either a sit down or a takeout dinner. I would recommend the Rama chicken because it is on the healthier side with a vegetable side and not too much oil is used in its preparation.
Love the food and the service is great! Prices are reasonable and everything I’ve tried is amazing.
I love this place! The services is always welcoming, the sushi is excellent, reasonable prices, byob. Definitely recommend!
Not the best. Rolls were just ok.
I had the lunch special today. The miso soup was good, with tofu and seaweed. The "crab" rangoon was filled with cream cheese and was just fine. However, the sweet and sour chicken was simply bad. Perhaps it's my fault for ordering a Chinese dish in a Thai restaurant, but they really shouldn't be serving dishes they can't make. Their Thai food might even be very good, but it's bad experiences like this that make customers not want to return. The dish resembled, just as someone else has written, cafeteria food: Just some awful chicken with a few vegetables in some awful syrupy sweet sauce. They should take out the Chinese items and concentrate on the things they actually do well. I don't think I'll have the stomach to ever come back.
Excellent! Everything was really delicious, staff is beautiful
Good food and fast service! Very diverse menu and great for sharing. Highly recommend this place 👏 😁
The seaweed salad was good and served in a very pretty dish but that kept tipping over.
The miso soup was a generous portion but watery.
The mini veggie pot stickers were overcooked.
The hot green tea was unexpectedly high-quality. Really delicious.
All together my bill came to just under $20 and I left satiated.
I would say I got exactly what I paid for.
Prices r reasonable and food is great quality! Very comparable to Thai grill that closed at the end of may
extremely elegant food and atmosphere at very reasonable prices
The food is excellent and always good for dinner
We are moving to a new state at the end of the month, and we often say that Similan is what we will miss most of all. They have delicious and comforting food (big fans of the panang curry), super friendly staff, and quick service. Thank you for all the years you fed us, Similan!
Great options, and well prepared meals. Even the homemade spring rolls were great.
Excellent Thai and sushi
I'm a big fan of this place. I especially love the spicy basil chicken.
Very fresh and great tasting food!
Everything I have tried is delicious
Service is prompt and respectful
I like the place.
Nice place to have sushi close to Granville.
Great service and good food!
Very tasty Thai and sushi. Pad Thai and Garlic noodles were fine. Cali roll and tamago also good. Beef salad was a little boring. I didn't taste any fish sauce. The on line ordering is excellent. The website let me know I was able to get a free appitizer without me prompting me!
Great and super cheap sushi. Take away is also great! Definitely recommend. Staff is exceptionally nice.
The food here is tasty and well-prepared, but the servings are smaller than average with some dishes. The Buddy Drunken Noodle is more of a lunch-sized serving than dinner and the rice that comes with certain dishes is about half of a normal-sized portion. The Spicy Tilapia Lover was great and the green curry was good, but nothing surprisingly great. I'd order again, but will avoid rice dishes.
Good spot for breakfast.
Great food and Great prices would definitely go back.
So good! Very affordable for really delicious sushi. Service was amazing.
Very good sushi and the waiter was really nice.
Food was delicious and an incredible value!! Will definitely return soon
For 15 bucks I got a nice big bowl of Basil Fried Rice & Beef, and my to-go order only took 5 minutes.
The food is always great and the service is friendly. A great neighborhood restaurant.
Great place, great food, great prices and an excellent server, Mr. Tony. All this right around the corner from house in my neighborhood. Come check it out. You'll be highly satisfied when you leave.
Servers are nice, if a bit slow. They do some things really well, like their spring roll and the drunken noodles. But their sushi is not one of those things. The fish didn’t seem very fresh, and there was no textural differences in the maki.
This place is fantastic. They food is delicious and the presentation is super cute! Everything I've had I've loved. Definitely recommend!
I have only been here once and I had a very pleasant experience. I will be certain to go there again when I am in the neighborhood.
I’m sorry but the portions here are smaller than average. Prices are typical, which leads you to think you’re getting more than you actually do. Big bummer. Food is good but portions are small 👎🏼
Great lunch specials!
Flavorless steamed vegetables with peanut butter. I don’t understand what this was, it wasn’t Thai food and I would never return for Thai dishes.
Decided to try this place out for Take out. My husband and I had the dragon roll, crunchy spicy tuna roll, Pad Thai and shrimp fried rice. Everything was exceptional! I meant to post a picture of the sushi however I couldn't resist eating it. The Lychee smoothie was also delicious Very Satisfied, will be going back soon.!
I noticed they had sushi for 3.99 and honestly it was really good for the price. Plus they are very close to where I lived so I am definitely coming back.
great new restaurant in rogers park!! loved the noodles they had on the menu
Good service And delicious food
This shop uses fresh ingredients for cooking. Absolutely clean and safe
Absolutely delightful food and service! The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was delivered hot and fast! Will return for sure
