Modest cafe serving traditional Thai dishes including curries & seafood.
I was in the Hyde Park Area in Chicago and my dad and I were going to get a deli sandwich and we happened upon this delightful place. I grew up going to restaurants in this area. We were immediately greeted by a member of the waitstaff who promptly seated us. We decided to split a plate, and to add a couple of things and the servings were generous. It was enough for my dad to take a little snack home for tomorrow. We ordered the dinner special and we had chicken fried rice, soup, an egg roll, and a cucumber salad. We also ordered spring roll and everything was delicious and fresh. There was a generous amount of chicken breast, and vegetables. The staff was so friendly and they were very accommodating. The soup was so delicious we ordered some for my dad to take home.
I went here with my friend on a windy day and got the dinner special. We also split the chive dumplings. The dumplings were very cozy and the sauce was really good alongside them. For the special, I got the green curry and the curry was one of the best I’ve had. It was served with an egg roll (very crispy, the dough was delicious) and soup, which was also really good. The staff is really nice and the food came in good timing. Calm atmosphere and the place is really cozy as well. Overall I would definitely recommend.
Very happy with this place. We got takeout for dinner and the prices were very reasonable. The dinner special is $13 and is a great value; you get a nice portion of soup, a normal-sized entrée, an egg roll , and a cucumber salad. We got two curries (mussaman and panang) and drunken noodles and we thought everything was delicious. Only gripe is I wasn't able to order through their website, but that's not a big deal. We'll happily come back here next time we want Thai food!
The Veggie Pad Thai was great. However, I had hair on my plate so I had to return it and wait longer to eat. The restaurant is cute and small. I feel that the employees need to wear hairnets because all employees had their hair down or in ponytails. It’s very easy for hair to get in people’s food. I tried this spot, it was ok but I won’t go back.
Siam might not be the most authentic Thai restaurant in Chicago, but it is the warmest place for Thai students around University of Chicago. They serve students here generation after generation. The food tastes home to me. Catfish basil was the dish that we always fought for the last piece. The fried tilapia topped with special sauce is another dish we always ordered in the time of celebration. When I visited the restaurant last time, my friend who was there for the first time ordered the simple soup and it was amazingly good! I will definitely come back for food here when I visited U of Chicago again.
Use to be a fav but went there last week and ordered my usual and was given an contagious cold obviously a cook came in sick the food had an unusual taste I had to discontinue eating after four spoonfuls highly disappointed and remain ill right now
Ok so I was inspired to order from here and I’m still in shock from my meal. I ordered noodles and they tasted like water, and they gave me a broth that looked like it was boiled from the ground. Not good. Also the meal came with a singular chopstick.
Authentic Thai flavors! Massaman curry, Lat Na, Pad Kee Mao, Pad Pak, egg rolls, soup, Thai Tea, Iced Coffee. It was all so good! Will definitely come back for the good service and the tasty food.
Best Thai spot in the city
I will never from Siam again . I have been a customer for 10 + years and yesterday I ordered food and called to make sure my order would be correct . Once I received my order it was still wrong and the guy I spoke with initially lied and said I didn’t speak with him nor order from Siam. My order was a big costly order to receive this type of service is unbelievable and unacceptable.

Owner was very rude.
When I'm in Chicago I always get take out from Siam Thai. My family and I love their Panang Curry.
Great food ! Recommend

Not real thai food. Owner had no idea how to make thom kha gai and argued with me when I tried to take if off the bill because I did not like this version that they prepared. I ordered thom kha gai and got something closer to tom yum with chicken and mushroom. Told me this is because we are in chicago and not in thailand. Rude and clueless guy, go next door and learn from them how to prepare it, there are like 2 other Thai restaurants on the same street that make it properly.
Was once our go to spot for years. Sadly the food has been bland lately ( lunch dishes & eggrolls). Maybe there are new cooks. Sorry can no longer recommend.
Worked for me
Long story short: we got sick today after our meal and cannot recommend.
Went here earlier today with a date. I love a hole in the wall with authentic cuisine and was hoping for that experience today. I ordered beef with garlic sauce, a soup and Thai tea. My date ordered shrimp with lobster sauce.
I'm a pretty adventurous eater and I love Thai, my date has never had it but likes to try new things. I explained that Thai shrimp w lobster sauce will not be the same as Chinese.
There was one party finishing their meal when we arrived, and we were the only ones in the restaurant remaining. This was around 730pm. Our server rushed us to decide on our meals. Food was served fairly quickly.
My soup was great, but both our entrees were not just disappointing, but inedible. They were served on flat plates- both with very watery, muddy brown sauce, that would clearly be cold within a few minutes.
My date took one bite and could not continue, he said it tasted weird. I picked up a piece of what might resemble some shredded lobster from his plate and it was spongy and tasted of spoiled seafood.
We asked for the check and our server was surprised that we did not take any of the food ordered with us to go. We left full plates behind. We did not request refund or meal replacement.
Within two hours we both were sick. Cannot recommend for service, atmosphere or cuisine.
After a visit to MSI, my family was looking for a place to eat on the way home. We chose Siam Thai on a whim.
The atmosphere is quaint, but cozy. There was not a great exchange of pleasantries, but they were polite.
The food was AMAZING! I realized that in the north suburbs, what we had to settle for in lackluster Thai Food, was worth the wait for this place.
We ordered the Spring Rolls, Shrimp Pad Thai, Curry Fried Rice, and Udon Soup with Tofu. We also had Thai Iced Teas (yummy).
No extra sauces or toppings were brought out-which made me skeptical due to the places I’ve been most recently for Thai food, however after love at first bite, I realized that it did not need anything more. The flavor was consistent, presentation was beautiful, and portions were aplenty.
If you’re in Hyde Park and you haven’t tried this restaurant, you’re missing out. Thanks for the reminder of what good Thai food should be.
Loved the papaya salad!
Lots of options, reasonable prices, esp the lunch and dinner special
I think their soups are delicious - so fragrant! Ask them what soups they have if you are vegetarian - they have veg soups that aren't on the menu.
The food was amazing and we didn't wait for very long. It was a perfect place to stop for lunch after going to the Museum of Science and Industry.
This place is awesome! The owner is wonderful, the food is delicious, and the service was very prompt.
Bonus points that we got seated at the front window with all the plants, really like that window and plant setup.
Overall, excellent 👌
The Veggie Pad Thai was great. However, I had hair on my plate so I had to return it and wait longer to eat. The restaurant is cute and small. We love this restaurant! Very friendly service and staff and the food is always high quality and hot.
This place is great! Customer service can be less than 5 stars sometimes but overall it’s a great place prices are good and the food is great
I came here today and was served with moldy dirty forks. When I bring it to their attention they angrily apologized, then stated that it is our responsibility to look before eating? Once no resolve was given the old man hurried to the back and an older woman came out to apologize as well and give plastic ware. I expressed being uncomfortable about eating the rest of meal as anyone would discovering mold and she merely offered to discount our bottled waters (requested after seeing water stains on the cups). Then ask that we don’t return since a discount was given???? Did not end up even making a dent in our food before leaving due to their uncleanliness and lack of accountability.
I love a restaurant that is a hole in the wall. I have lived in the area forever and didn’t know this place existed until last week and now I am so happy that I know it’s here! the prices are great and the food is even better. The service is amazing and the food is authentic and it was just an all-around great experience. This will definitely be our go to Thai place moving forward.
Very strange smell in here. Drinks served at room temp with no ice. Small portions. Super slow service and staff was a little unfriendly.
Soup was good. My dish unfortunately was mostly onions and peppers with very little meat. I'll stick to a pad thai next time.
Great food. One of my favorite places in Hyde Park.
The lunch/dinner special is amazing. My partner and I go here for Thai all the time. Best spot in Hyde Park for sure!
Always delicious, quick, and affordable. Siam isn’t fussy and doesn’t have frills, but if you’re dining in. you’ll be seated as soon as you arrive by the most business-like front of house staff you’ve ever had—you don’t have to fall all over yourself being enthusiastically friendly if your food speaks for itself, and you better believe it does. If you’re doing takeout, it’s just as good and about as quick as can be expected anywhere. Delivery is done by an in-house driver for $4 flat (I assume there must be a delivery range) but you can order through Grubhub—qnd it’s almost always delivered faster than the estimated time and never any leaks or spills. If you want a deal, make sure you check out the lunch and dinner specials. You might even get a smile if you say thank you in Thai!
P.S. No AC in summer, but I went during the hottest part of the year in 2023, and they do put out many fans (shockingly quiet ones!) and will point them at you if you’d like.
The environment was pleasant, food amazing, the service was excellent
This place made my trip to Chicago more warm. I was so hungry after hanging out in Univ of Chicago museums, and the food here is so nice, place is so quite and price is also fair.
Recommend.
Fantastique
Siam Thai is a quaint little Thai restaurant located across the Metra bridge. Their pad thai was stellar, with a nice balance of flavors. Definitely a fan!
Good price, fast service and delicious.
A quaint little mom and pop Thai place with great food she good service
This is my favorite restaurant in Hyde Park. The dinner special is the best food deal I’ve seen in a long time. Three appetizers and a main course for $14 is just fantastic.
love to come here during lunch break between classes—the lunch special is a great deal!! when ppl talk about thai places in hyde park, siam doesnt really get mentioned but it's my favorite
Definitely not the best Thai food but very good prices, especially for the lunch special, and hits the spot. A very humble restaurant which serves comforting, yummy food. Definitely recommend lunch special where you get soup, egg roll, and a curry dish for like 12$. I eat here fairly often and am never disappointed. It’s the best Thai I’ve found in Hyde Park, which is not saying the most, but when you just need Thai food it delivers.
If you really Care about food and delicious meal! So u avoid looking at quality of service or how old the building. This place serve super delicious Thai. Sorry missed taking photos!
Very happy with this place. We got takeout for dinner and the prices were very reasonable. Popular establishment for UChicago students. It's not the most authentic Thai restaurants I've been to, but it's a family-owned business that offers warm, attentive service (and discount to students if I remember correctly) and a great meeting place for students.
It was so good! The dinner special was amazing and I loved the variety. Surprisingly, my favorite was the kai tom kha soup. Will be coming back!!
We love coming here for the beef salad, rice soups and chilie baby clams. These dishes burst with flavor and they feel extra clean to the palate at the same time. The place has a lot of plants near the windows that look very nice and relaxing.
Not genuine Thai cuisine, reasonably tasty, inexpensive and friendly service though.
Great Kai Tom Kha, get it with white rice💚Does anyone know if there chicken wings are good? I want to try them so bad!

Tiny restaurant, amazing food. Expect to see the same faces waiting on you every time you inevitably return.
this take-out thai restaurant has been my life-saver for the entirety of my stay in hyde park. i would be amiss to not leave an absolutely banger review. a+++ would definitely recommend. 👏👏👏
they had so many vegetarian options also. impeccable menu and taste!
It was a quick pick up process.
The food was warm and ready to eat. 👍🏼
I’m not local to Chicago but I googled a good Thai restaurant and I’m glad I chose this one. Loved it so much I ordered delivery twice in 3 days.
Great food but lackluster service and atmosphere.
I am a regular here since it’s basically across the street from me. It is the first restaurant I ate at when I moved to the city and I’ve never looked back. The food is flavorful and fantastic (both take-out and dine-in), the wait-time is consistent, and the staff members are so sweet, friendly, and courteous. I recommend anything that uses their flat rice noodles like Pad Siew and their Panang curry. Also- their lunch/dinner special is insane, sooo much food.
Called for takeaway, waited 5 minutes
I have never seen a place as disorganized as this place. Two servers are keep miscommunicating and saying contradictory things. They prioritize phone call orders over people who are ACTUALLY in the restaurant. It takes 30 minutes for the manager to control the cashier. I could not comment on the food because they decided to close before they would take my order but YOU SHOULD AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SOLID PLAN TO VISIT.
Best masaman curry in Chicago! ♥️
Pad Kee Mao is fire 👌🏻
Great food. Try Shrimp Hot Pot.
Entramos porque fuimos al museo de ciencia, yo no estaba convencida pero la comida fue espectacular, recomiendo la sopa de arroz con ginger demasiado buena. El arroz frito espectacular.
It was fantastic food. Healthy, tasty and best prices . People were nice too. Highly recommend.
Small mom and Pop shop had been going here for about six years best food ever
Went for a casual date night this evening and wanted to stay around the neighborhood. We got the shumai, pot stickers and the crab Rangoon for appetizers. For entrees we got beef and broccoli and pad Thai. Absolutely phenomenal.
Already looking forward to my next visit.
Pad see ew was not good at all. I returned it and they would not refund/replace. Would not get that here. Egg roll was alright.
I like the smoothies, but I didn't care for the roast duck with rice.
Genuinely think this is the best place in the area for Thai, I’ve never had better for a better price. Love it here!
The food tasted like I was eating at a fancy restaurant. It was all delicious. The Thai tea, soup, egg role, and Massaman curry chicken dish. I was extremely satisfied.
Saw the person who was waiting me and preparing my food sneeze into his hand. Instead of putting my drink down and washing his hand he continued to serve me. 5 minutes later I told the cashier/ waiter I’ll pay, but I don’t feel comfortable eating here so I paid and left without eating my meal.
Looks like a quaint ma and pa restaurant nothing fancy, but the soup I had was sooo good!
I can't remember the name but it ended with "... ... kha" had cilantro, mushrooms and I added chicken. I ended up buying another one to go.
I taste the green curry with veggies and rice and I liked it too.
I did not order because I did not want anything heavy.
This is in Hyde Park!!!!
Great prices too!!
Amazing food!
Luckily Thai 55 was not open for eat in and Siam Thai was. Great food!
Wondered into this spot thinking it was another Thai place and I just went ahead and got the chicken cashew. It was sooooo good. I went back the next day to get it again.
One of the best deals for Restaurants in Hyde Park, definitely try their Dinner and Lunch special menus it's worth it. You can get a soup, egg roll and a lot of curry with rice, all for $11 in lunch and $14 in dinner! Couldn't have asked for a better deal. And the food is delicious 😋
Phenomenal
Calamari is the thing that has kept me coming back to this place. Today the calamari was cut into large awkward chunks and served in overcooked pieces of batter, what happened here? The entree was tasty but too oily. Customer service could stand and improvement....
Food was delicious had a great time in this restaurant.
okay so i get there and the older man at the register was giving racist but maybe i was trippin. i ordered the crab rangoons, pad thai with shrimp and a thai iced tea. the thai iced tea was amazing, the crab rangoons were mostly cream cheese but i could tell they were made fresh and the sauce that came with them was really good. lastly, the shrimp in the pad thai tasted like it had gone bad, but other than that it was a solid pad thai. overall it was an okay meal for $25
My family has been coming here forever. The best!
My husband and I ate here and loved it! Super tasty Thai food! We are very picky when it comes to Asian cuisines too. We will be back!
The service was rude. And the food was bland
Delicious Thai food with fresh ingredients! Friendly service
Absolutely delicious food and good service
Food was Amazing 👏 . Had the Tofu Pad Jee Mao. Delicious 😋
The $13 dinner special be hittin’
Great food an service.
Small, obviously family owned and operated. Personal, authentic, and delicious. I will come back again.
I gave 2 stars for the service and eggrolls otherwise I was truly a bit disappointed with this being my first experience at this restaurant. I was a walk -in customer and was recieved by a friendly gentleman who promptly took my order......I ordered Beef Pad Thai or should I say Pad Thai w/ a bit of beef and Chicken egg rolls. The eggrolls were delicious the Pad Thai left alot to be desired, it was very dry not really any flavor at all alot of noodles and the egg was tasteless and I believe it was egg substitute and there wasn't any bean sprout or so little I couldnt detect it or anything else hardly, there were blind spots ( unsauced noodles) green onion was not cooked in the noodles but rather a few white pieces of the green onion thrown on top of the dish along with the chopped peanuts and carrots. The beef consisted of about 6 very thin and small small dry flavorless pieces of beef. I was hungry and I ate but my taste for Pad Thai was hardly sated. Maybe tonight was an off night for the cook or something because they have great reviews which were not reflected in my selection of a meal.
I was very happy with my experience, food was amazing, staff was friendly.
Very good food and service, food was prepared very well.
The quality deteriorated significantly. Sad. My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
Thr food was amazing. Pad thai and the lad na were great. The coconut custard was lackluster.
siam thai NEVER misses
Hands Down probably one the Best authentic Thai Restaurant I've eaten at. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 5 years always consistent clean prices are reasonable. Pretty decent. My only complaint is all of the Lunch specials are all made with rice 🍚....And if you want noodles instead there will be and up charge. Keep up the great work 👍🏽
We had dinner here after a day at the Museum of Science and Industry. I'm not a Thai food expert, but the Pad Kee Mao here was better than any I've had in NYC. It was spicy and the tofu was perfectly crispy. It's not a fancy place, but if you're looking for a flavorful, satisfying meal, this place doesn't disappoint.
Really good food, friendly and attentive staff. Can't wait to return
Fantastic Thai food, friendly owners.
great food, the chicken basil fried rice is a must try!!!
Very good food, reasonably priced. The specials are really good.
Really good Thai!
Very slow
Best Thai food I’ve ever had. Green and yellow curries are amazing. So so good
I go to this place alot and I always get good service and the food here is amazing also the staff here is so sweet and kind 😁☺️😊
Food was salty, server acted like he didn't want to be there.
Food was soo delicious and hot! Staff was very friendly.
Pretty good Thai food and a very friendly owner.
So good! Only giving four stars for now.
Restauraunt staff are ignorant about ADA laws and regulations. They refused service and used discriminatory practices saying that the only service animals are for blind people and service animals aren’t allowed inside restaurants. Not only that, they have ROACHES!
The food is always fresh and hot, it is authentic Thailand food. The customer service is great
the best restaurant ever!
Excellent food at an excellent price.
Great potstickers!
Beautiful family owned restaurant with incredibly kind staff. Eating in their dining room feels like eating at home.
Place is great, food is always on point. Have been to other Thai places in Hyde Park never as good as Siam.
Really good food at affordable prices. Phad thai noodles are amszy
Always great, I am fully plant based and I am so happy to still get my Pad woon sen..they forgot the 🍄, went back then they didn't include the ones I paid for, but the owner was very gracious and agreed to add double next time, no cost! The food is always fresh and its nice to have a vegan option!
My family goes here every time we're in the area. The food is delicious! My favorite Thai restaurant ever.
Tasty and spicy thai food. Service is great.
Awesome place with reasonable prices!
The food here is FANTASTIC!!! Great service and great food. Definitely coming back.
Great service, amazing food, and calm atmosphere. Definitely recommend this restaurant!
I always go there whenever I'm in Hyde Park. Best Thai food in Chicagoland, in my opinion.
this place is amazing!
Great food. Flavorful and fresh!
Great food, great service, amazing energy!
