Thai Island is a family-owned restaurant and has been located on Davis Island for over 20 years. We serve fresh traditional Thai food and would love to have stop in. Either my wife or I is always there to greet you. Thank you.
This is a nice, quaint tai restaurant. The music and ambiance is very relaxing. I would definitely recommend the appetizer sampler. You get to try four different appetizer choices with four different sauces. They have a nice variety of Thai entrees to choose from. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Outstanding service, a dog-friendly patio and most of the menu can be modified to accommodate a vegan diet.
The corn fritter appetizer is unique and very tasty! We also enjoyed a salad and main dish along with a bottle of saki.
If you are - like me - not a fan of cilantro, be sure to mention when you order.
πππ A Decent Experience at Thai Island π₯’ποΈ
Nestled at 210 E Davis Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606, Thai Island offers a dining experience that falls right in the middle, garnering a 3/5 stars. Let me take you through my visit:
π©βπ³ Service: Standard and Satisfactory π₯€π
Our server provided the service you'd expect at any restaurantβfriendly, attentive, and prompt with water refills. While there were no bells and whistles, the basics were covered with a smile. ππ₯
ποΈ Island Vibes: Beachy and Fitting πββοΈπββοΈ
The restaurant's decor echoed a beachy vibe, which harmonized well with its Davis Island location. ποΈ The atmosphere, while not extraordinary, seemed to capture the essence of the island spirit. It's the kind of place you can imagine stepping into after a day at the beach, and that in itself is inviting. ππ΄
π Flavor Quest: A Bit Lackluster π§π
Turning to the food, I ordered the Beef Pad Pak, a medley of stir-fried vegetables. The disappointment, unfortunately, was the lack of salt and overall flavor. π½οΈβ For Thai cuisine, bold and intricate flavors are anticipated, but my dish leaned towards the bland side. My friend's Chicken Pad Thai also fell short in terms of flavor, leaving us both wanting more taste. π₯’π
π€·ββοΈ A Balanced Verdict: Not Bad, Not Great π
ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
In the end, my experience at Thai Island can be summed up as "okay." π€·ββοΈπ While it didn't leave a lasting impression, it also didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. It's a place where you can satisfy your hunger for Thai cuisine, albeit without the robust flavors that make Thai food truly exceptional. It's a safe choice if you're in the mood for a straightforward meal without too many frills. π₯‘π
Remember, everyone's taste preferences vary, so while my experience was average, yours might be different. Give it a try if you're seeking a simple Thai meal on Davis Island. π΄π΄
Awesomesauce, the Hawaiian Curry shrimp and the Panang were sensational. Ordered take out so I can't speak for the restaurant experience but they were very nice on the phone and during pick up (only problem was there were two hairs in a dish). Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good Thai food
The place is kind of OK. Not that great. The ambience is good and service staff are also nice people. This is not a place to go when you are hungry. The first reason being once you place the order, you got to wait a really long time for your food to arrive on your table. Second reason being that almost all the food taste sweet. We were 10 people and ordered different dishes. Every dish tasted sweet. Even the spiciest one. People who don't eat spicy food might love this place.
The Panang curry is wonderful. The oyster mushroom dish wasnβt much taste though.
Wonderful outside seating - but no indoor seating as of April 2021 - so not much seating! I hope they open indoor soon because I donβt know how they are managing! Photos as of April 2021.

Thai Island Restaurant offers an unforgettable culinary experience with exquisite flavors, impeccable service, and an ambiance that transports you straight to the heart of Thailand.
The best Thai food in Tampa. Such a friendly staff always so welcoming.
Wonderful food and great staff. Bill was actually cheaper than I was expecting too!
Great little restaurant. We tried Green Curry and Pad thai and it did not disappoint.
Very nice service, really enjoyed the dinner.
A local gem
Outstanding service, a dog-friendly patio and most of the menu can be modified to accommodate a vegan diet.

So delicious if i lived closer i would definitely make this a regular spot but i will definitely be visiting again! The curry is fantastic.
I ordered the Panang Curry with eggplant. It was so delicious. The service was amazing as well. Our waitress was very attentive. I cannot wait to come back to this place.
Delicious food, quality ingredients, and friendly staff! Sitting outside was very relaxing, thank you!
I had to come back to revise my review. The quality of the ingredients and the flavors are unmatched, BUT only on certain days! I guess it depends whoβs in the kitchen that day. Certain days the food is bland and missing the vibrant signature thai flavors. On Saturday evening 10/14/23 the food was bland! Iβm not sure who was in the kitchen that night, but they need to be told to make the food more flavorful. The key is to be consistent. This restaurant is not consistent with the flavor of the food, one day flavorful and another day bland. Itβs a hit or miss unfortunately.
We love the Penang from here!
Not authentic and poorly maintained restaurant
One of Tampaβs best restaurants. Penn and clay are fantastic and the food they serve is amazing every time. Highly recommend the chicken panang!
We've eaten here several times now, and it's consistently very good. Davis Island is beautiful, and this place has a nice cozy feel. We like to eat outside. Last time, the staff set up an extra fan for us so we could enjoy our meal outside comfortably. I thought that was pretty cool. 10/10 would recommend
Food has always been great . Family owned not fancy but always excellent food and service

Always the best
Fresh food; great taste! Love asking for Thai spice!
Spicy rice was good. Soup that came with my lunch was not that great. There are no wok items here. Mostly noodles and rice dishes.
One of my favorite places if I'm spending time on Davis Island. The food is great the prices are good the place is wonderful. The owners are very nice. Wish you was closer to my daughter
Delicious and authentic Thai food with friendly service. They do take out very well, but they also have some outside seating too. Parking is difficult for the whole area.
I'll start by saying that the food is absolutely excellent! I love coming here and probably my #1 for Thai Restaurants. That being said, I haven't been since before Covid. Pre-Covid, they had very healthy portions and the price definitely matched the value (though it was higher than other places, it was worth it.) I went there tonight for the first time and the portions are probably 1/3 to 1/2 the previous size, with slightly higher prices.
I know there's inflation and what not, but I'd rather just pay more for the larger portions they had. That being said, don't let this deter you from going. It really is fantastic, but they should consider the old Tom Yum Soups (that were a nice size) instead of the little 4oz to-go containers (one example of several entrees I ordered).
Food: duck panang was amazing β
Our duck came separate to the curry and was crispy on the outside, the curry was thick and tasty. I heard the curry came with the duck within the curry sauce in the past
Beef massaman - watery and bland, I told the waitress and she said she only worked there once a week and left it at that π€·π½ββοΈ
Chicken satay appetizer - awesome! Get it
Pad thai chicken - watery, not authentic, noodles were super short like they had been cut up before hand. Had green beans too?!
Service- waitress forget my glass of wine both times and we had to follow up. Did not offer to replace bad curry/offer an alternative. Friendly but not good service and didnβt seem to care as sheβs βonly there once a weekβ
It is a wonderful place with great food, friendly staff and cool atmosphere. Food was delicious. Highly recommended.
Great food and the main street at Davis Island gives you that small town feeling.
Weβve tried dozens of Thai Restaurants around Tampa, and Thai Island is among the best for its food, friendly service, and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend!
I came here for lunch on a Wednesday, and had a great experience. They had an inexpensive lunch special that came with a soup and a perfectly-sized tapioca pudding dessert. I got curry, and it was great. The food came out nice and fast too, which is important for lunch on a workday.
Top flight! This undoubtedly is the best Thai food in Tampa. There baked duck and scallopsare outstanding.
I was passing by from Sarasota to Gainesville and s craving for Thai food. I checked on google and found a restaurant to 246 reviews and 4,5 starts. I went there and I love the place and setting, and the service was quite friendly, but the quality of food was terrible. The padthai was watery and too sweet. Also smell funny. The chicken dish was OK but the chicken meat was chewy. What is the problem with the 246 reviewers. Are they real people or bots?
Came for dinnertime, ordered lemongrass chicken. Highlights: Publix frozen vegetables, undercooked carrots and cabbage (and unseasoned) made up half my plate. The chicken looked like those cheap frozen cutlets that had been cut into thin slices. Sauce was not very flavorful, and thin. The rice had hard kernels among the soft ones in my bowl. The table next to me had 3 noodle based dishes, all with undercooked noodles. I'm so glad I went alone as I'd of hated to spend $20+ per plate on food here for someone else. I will not return until there is new management.
WOW!!! This is by far the best Thai food I have ever eaten. Try everything, but the papaya salad is phenomenal. The dumplings were the best Thai style dumplings I've ever tasted . I can't wait to visit Tampa again just to eat here!!
A quiet little spot to get a quick eat
So delicious. Friendly atmosphere β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Amazing!
Great that food. Been looking for somewhere since Thai Pan Alley went down hill a decade ago and then closed. This place is great.
Best Thai around Tampa. I love this place and it felt very authentic.
Great location, nice staff. Food not top notch Thai. I would have liked the big multi spice option tray vs one plastic cup of pepper powder.
I donβt think they understand the word spicy. Tom yum soup was the smallest I ever had anywhere in the U.S.
Authentic and clean...
I've eaten at a lot of Thai and Viet restaurants .. been to Vietnam twice. The salad rolls fell apart but not before trying to bite into a portion that was so hard and chewy I could have broken a tooth. The pop pop chicken was burnt. The pad Thai was literally nothing like any pad Thai I've eaten- ever. Glossy white type too-sweet sauce, no cilantro, no lime or chop sticks even when requested. This review is purely based on food. Service was fine. But nothing extraordinary. This was very disappointing since it was first time taking friend to eat Thai food. And now she thinks it isn't that great.
Best Thai food I've ever tasted. A gem!
Dumplings were bland, Thai wings were literally just big fried wings with sauce on top. When I tried to send back the Thai wings the waitress would not let me and asked me if I ever had Thai wings before. I then asked for the check as I didnβt want my entree anymore and didnβt appreciate the bad customer service I was getting. My entree was brought out anyway along with the check (no charges taken off) I paid for the food and left without eating a bite. Donβt come here the food is far from authentic and you will be charged for it even if you donβt like it.
Good food, friendly staff, excellent pricing.
Excellent flavors and ample portions.
Love Thai Island. Great food. Went for lunch & had several nice specials including soup & tapioca. They are clean & observe all the Covid regulations. The tables inside were spaced apart for safe dining & of course they do have outside seating as well. Try this place out. You won't be disappointed. I had the spicey rice with chicken & my daughter had a delicious green curry with chicken & noodles. Very Yummy. Can't wait to go back.
We had pad Thai with chicken the dumplings and they were both very bland. The tom kha Gai soup that usually solid wasn't good. This place used to be very tasty but recently very poor quality.
Very good food, friendly service, and a charming atmosphere, all at a good price. I'll be going back.
Small portion, either salty or way too sweet. Not even close to authentic. The panang curry was a joke. it was very watery and plain. The pod Thai was oh my way too sweet that it didnβt have to be. We had complained it but the server said thatβs what it is. Hmmβ¦.really? And I said I am not coming back.
Wife had the Green Curry and I had the Panang Curry. They were both excellent. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the service is attentive but not intrusive.
The spring rolls and the panang curry was great.
Have eaten here twice, lunch and dinner. Medium spicy Panang curry has a nice kick, perfect heat, and authentic Thai flavor. Way better than anything else I have tried so far in South Tampa, which were more bland. Service was good, cute little quaint location. Love the little front porch.
The food is delicious and the service was excellent. Thanks!
Thai Island had the best green curry I've ever tasted! Their boba tea is made fresh to order and the service is phenomenal. Highly recommend. 5 stars well earned. Once you've been here, you won't go anywhere else.
Probably my favorite places to eat!
The guy who works and owns the place with his wife is a Davis Island native. The fried snapper was exactly how my grandfather made fish when I was a kid in the keys. π₯²
Was no seating outside, until we told them we were from Clearwater. Got Pad Thai shrimp (hot) and two cokes total with tip $21.00. It didn't have any spice what so ever, tasted very bland. The shrimp was old and very tough, the spines were extremely chewy. Overall the meal wasn't worth the 30 min. trip.
The Panang curry is wonderful. The oyster mushroom dish wasnβt much taste though.
Wonderful outside seating - but no indoor seating as of April 2021 - so not much seating! I hope they open indoor soon because I donβt know how they are managing! Photos as of April 2021.
Great place, great environment, great service and great food! π₯ I really enjoy sitting outside and basically ordering 5-7 items from the starters option. I can highly recommend the Fresh Rolls! But you got to be careful because of you go too late its going to be sold out.
Very good. Papaya salad was my favorite!
Went in for a nice bowl of hot soup and only outdoor seating. No problem, order placed for a few items, grabbed a beer while we waited, and picked up food. Lovely service, place was busy taking and handing out orders. Went home and tasted all. Oh my goodness! Such wonderful flavors! We were spoiled with a place back home where all was cooked by mamma and no one compared. Well, food here is also cooked by mamma, and you can taste it. The Tom Ka Gai soup wasnβt coconut milk soup, it was nuanced and absolutely delicious. I was so sad when I finished it. The papaya salad had just enough fish sauce and more layers of flavor. This is when I knew, moms have different recipes but they are all yummy. Our noodle dishes were well flavored, never bland. Not sure how long we will be in town, but we will visit as often as we can while here. Thank you for the warm food and warm memories.
Delicious food. Highly recommend.
The food here tastes great, so why the 3 stars, well the curry sauces are a little watery which is fine, but to soak up all that sauce you need rice, and boy are they stingy with their rice. For 2 of us we now even order extra rice which they charge $1.50 for because there is nowhere near enough in their standard portion, again I don't mind that part either, but it's still not enough. Come on owners, the cheapest possible component and you treat it like its gold, stop being so darn stingy. More Rice, More Rice, More Rice.
Great atmosphere and super friendly service. The panang curry is so good that I canβt have it anywhere else!
It's been years because I moved and I cannot wait until I can visit again. Stay well.
We went here to take out since the dining was closed because of COVID-19 and it was our first time. We ordered chicken panang curry, spicy noodles, chicken fried rice and calamari. The food took 30 minutes to come and we all had to wait outside and nobody came to update us. The calamari was soggy and very small portion for $7. The curry was half water and had three sad looking pieces of chicken in it and nothing else. They also gave very little rice with it. Noodles were ok. Very expensive for very non expensive food. Will not be going back.
I came to pick up after a long day at work. Seeing me rain-drenched in my scrubs, he said my order was on the house! So kind of them! The delicious panang curry and pad Thai made my night! #supportlocal
Penn and Clay are the amazing owners of our favorite Thai restaurant in Tampa. They are always there to welcome you with fantastic food and a wonderful staff. Pennβs Crispy Duck with spicy noodles is divine!
Server was friendly but the food was not good.
Great date night place. The food was good. The service not as good.
Excellent food, price and service.
Consistently perfect!
Fantastic authentic Thai food! One of my favorite in Tampa
Delicious food. Definitely need to improve their website situation. But otherwise great place.
Their food is alright, but donβt count on service. After making eye contact several times I finally stood up and walked toward the waitress. She saw me and walked away. I wanted to order something more and did so at the counter with someone else. When she brought the food she turned to walk away but I stopped to ask her for a refill. She never did ask if I needed anything or how the meal was. The restaurant was steady, but not overly busy. Best part was watching this bird try to come in : ]
Update: had to ask the man I placed the additional order with for the check as the waitress disappeared. He asked me to go to the till and there the check was sitting to go out.
Great food for a very low price!
Nice location for quality thai food.
I used door dash to order. Food was excellent. To attest to the restaurantβs customer service, a simple mistake was made on my order. I posted a review and was immediately contacted. The restaurant made it right by sending a driver to my location with the missing duck. Good job and thanks for taking care of the defect.
The best Thai in Tampa Bay!
Food is ok. Sushi was not fresh. Typically not the case. Hopefully just a slow night. New bartender in the corner bar was horrible. Couldn't stop talking to serve a drink. Actually had to go to the main bar for great service.
The food here is very good, I always get the yellow curry with tofu and it tastes fantastic but I will say the portion sizes are quite small for the price
Excellent!
This restaurant used to be great but this last time we went the service was terrible. They took our order at 8pm and our food was not out at 850 and the soup we ordered was cold. When we addressed the waitress she was belligerent , which is unusual for her but she insisted that due to having one wok they are unable to accommodate an appropriate time for food to arrive. We know this to be untrue because we have eaten there multiple times during busy weekends. We simply asked that our soups be comped bc we do understand that sometimes things are forgotten but she was rude and indignant that she was unable to serve us in an appropriate time frame like they usually do -even though 4 other tables that had been seated after us were served before us, which we pointed out. We didnβt argue we just stated we would prefer to leave. We also had a bug crawl across our table during this and I think that was my last straw. In the end this restaurant used to be great but at this point itβs just gone down hill, sadly.
Corn fritters and panang veggie were ok.But the pad thai (too sweet) and spicy fried rice were below average. Other than the guy who made us sit everyone else were too cold
Very poor service, super slow to acknowledge us or bring us the drinks.... the food was ok but I wasn't really impressed by the taste. I don't think I would go back to this place , there are way better options in tampa for Thai
Authentic and delicious Thai food! The owners are great people who use high quality ingredients. Iβve been 30 times or more and never a bad meal. In fact lunch Wednesday was one of the best meals I had in months. Left a tip and note on the receipt thanking them for the great meal. Love Thai Island!!!
Fantastic lunch prices, excellent food!
This place has amazing Thai food, and one of the waiters informed us of other places to go to for dishes that my wife would like (shes Thai and wants very specific food made the way she likes it in Thailand) and we were not let down. we come here every time we are in the area, because it's our favorite in the Tampa Bay area (including all of New Tampa through South Tampa and St. Pete/Clearwater)
Delicious Authentic Thai. Fresh flavors. Friendly staff. Good quality service. Good for family or a date.
Just a great place to eat!
The best. Hits all taste bids. We can't go a week without our weekly Thai fix. Green curry is the superlative.
The food is always delicious and very comforting. I do wish they would bring back the tuna tartar appetizer.
Great food and attention to detail very enjoyable time
I called and placed an order for a curry dish. The man who took my call said it would be ready in 15 minutes. 5 minutes later I realized, he did not ask me how spicy I wanted my dish so I called to let him know how hot I wanted it. He picked up and said it was ready to go and I told him that I wanted my food as hot as possible. He told me that the food was already done and that all he was willing to do was give me spices to add to the food. BTW, isn't that the job of the establishment that prepares the food??? And for what it actually costs (which is probably 1/10 of what they charge) them to make this egregiously priced food, you would think they'd like to make the customer happy. After all, it is their job to create a dish of food that the customer wants. It's not like I changed my mind from wanting it prepared one way to another. When I told him it's customary for the restaurant to ask if the customer wants their food spicy and if yes, to what degree, he replied very condescendingly, "Sorry."
Based on the ordering experience alone, they deserve this rating. And when I came to pick the food up, I stood in front of the guy for about 15 seconds as he was glued to the TV screen, before I had to clear my throat and announce that I was there to pick up my order. On my way there, I figured it was probably a younger guy who didn't know any better, but this guy was in his 60's, if not 70's. He should know that's not how you treat customers.
Favorite
I love the food in this place...decoration is a little tacky.
Nice ambiance good food - might have had a bit more spice.
Loved it! Awesome food
Quaint place with front patio and fresh Thai food (albeit mild).
Nice quint place with kind service!
Very good food, with a nice variety of types of dishes. I love the panang curry. Excellent service and friendly owners. A great place for a fun meal that is not too noisy.
I ordered the seafood pad Thai. I my only complaint is that the menu on their website was different from what I was actually served and my food had a LOT of cracked mussel shells throughout. Other than that, the food was delicious. I'll just have to order it without mussels to avoid the shells.
Food, ambience, staff are perfect
Attentive and friendly staff. Chef is 100% Thai and it shows on the flavor and quality of the food. Great value for money. Lunch is actually a bargain!
Very good food with great customer service. I only wish the serving sizes were a bit larger for the price paid. Atmosphere was very relaxed, tucked away from all the hustle. Inviting. Plus, they have a few Thai beers to go with your meal!
Horrible service. Mediocre food.
I came here after seeing the great reviews. While it's a cute setting compared to other Thai restaurants, the food is average at best for the price they charge. It was flavorless and very plain. You can get a better dish elsewhere at a lower price.
Disgusting pad Thai, cold entree, I would not recommend to anyone!
We love to eat here!! Great atmosphere. Service is consistently excellent! They have wonderful choices. We have never made a bad choice. My favorite place for a nice relaxing dinning experience.
The food was good. The service was quite bad. Our server seemed to be rushing us for no good reason. The place wasn't crowded. We barely got started with our main course and she already showed up asking if she could pick up our plates. Our plates were still full. Awkward! Shortly after, she got the dessert and the check like she wanted to just get done with her work. Really bad service!
This restaurant is horrible. I am vegetarian and asked if any of the soups were made with vegetarian broth. The waitress said yes and then brought out a soup with fish sauce. I couldnβt even get past the smell it was so horrendous. She then brought out another soup without the fish sauce but it was really tasteless and inedible. Someone at our table ordered the fried calamari and it came out ice cold. All the dishes were tasteless and some were luke warm, and they came out one at a time with about 15 minutes apart. Then we waited for our check while the waitress cleaned glasses. Would never go here again.
Excellent food at a fair price and nice surroundings.
