It's not all that often that I dine in this type of cuisine but I got to tell you it was a very nice surprise. Have you ever been to a restaurant and you take a bite and as you continue to chew your food more the dynamic of what you're eating is completely different from beginning to end. This restaurant accomplishes this very well! You need dishes with unbelievably great flavors and excellent service to match. There is no hard alcohol served at this place it's just fancy wine cocktails so if that's a turnoff for you you might want to go somewhere else but if you don't care about that and you're not trying to go somewhere with a trendy look and perhaps prefer something more unique this is a great place to go.

I know I'll definitely go back again because the food was unbelievable!

The atmosphere and staff where simply incredible, and this was the best meal I have ever had. The whole place full of plants and amazing decor. The food came in pretty fast, but apparently they thought it took too long and gave us free dessert! Everything was delicious, but the buttered chicken was otherworldly. It was so sweet warm with a hint of spice, the texture was incredible, and I finally understand what it means for food to melt in your mouth. If you eat meat, you HAVE to try this.
The food comes out family style in waves, one dish after another for everyone to share. The waiter recommended 6-8 dishes for four people, but we got 5 and still had leftovers. Prices are good for the type of restaurant an worth the money. You should definitely try it and get a reservation!

Had a fantastic dining experience at Cobi's in Santa Monica! The food was incredibly tasty, and the atmosphere was both beautiful and welcoming. The service team was warm and courteous, making us feel right at home. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a delightful meal.

Great ambiance with a touch of romance and elegance with all floral decorations (including bathroom), a nice open semi-open patio with plenty of seating. There are not too many Southeast Asian cuisines on the west side, so we decided to give it a try for my birthday.

We ordered the recommended Nasi Goreng fried rice (with extra pork belly for $6 extra), Roti wraps, and friend chicken to share. Everything was great with great flavor and spice balance. The egg on top of rice has running yolk to provide a rich texture that covers the grain. Chicken is extra crispy outside but juicy inside. The wraps are flavorful and filling (with meat and beans)

We also ordered a few drinks. I opted in for the (virgin) Lychee fizz and it was delicious and with very legit fruity taste.

The only thing service could have been better is the French toast. Our friend had to wait a lot longer and watching us eat while she waited for her order. Wish they could have served all dishes at the same time.

Fantastic food and awesome drinks. Loved the experience!

We had brunch there! Very cute place. Food is very fusion. We ordered fried chicken, porridge, and sticky rice salad. I would recommend the fried chicken but not the others.

Not hyperbole! One of the best restaurants in Los Angeles! We’ve been going to Cobi’s for months now and this place checks all of the boxes. Service is incredible(thanks Amber ;) the vibe is always on point, wine menu is superb and the food……cannot say enough about it! This place has dialed in their recipe as a restaurant and it show!

amazing place, cool ppl, delicious food

Diner Review №20

The most attractive part of this place is the atmosphere; super cozy yet beautiful. The service was polite and smooth, and the food was delicious. They have good vegetarian options. The most memorable thing about the food is the flavor!! The curry puffs, african curry, and the fried rice did not lack spices whatsoever. Everything was a bit heavy on the oil, but did not dissapoint whatsoever. The side of jasmine rice was very generous as well! The roti was not the best, but the rest of the meal made this place one of my favorites!

Diner Review №21

Awesome spot in SM! Ambiance and decor is warm, cozy and fun. Staff is super friendly and helpful, and service is excellent. We went for the chefs special which consists of a number of different dishes from the menu, covering most of the main ones. Items include the papaya salad, shrimps, dumplings, puff pastry, the king fish, short rib, and Bronzino. Overall, highly recommend this spot for sure.

Cobi’s was highly recommended to us, so we came to celebrate a birthday. The food was very good, especially the Butter Chicken and Beef Rendang. However, what got me to write the review was the lackluster service.

I’d made a reservation and noted that we were celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday. When we first checked in, the host said happy birthday to my girlfriend, but when we were seated moments later, the server said to me “happy birthday dude” and gave me a card with some mini flowers in it. I said it was actually my gf’s birthday, and he didn’t really seem too interested or to care at all. We then placed our drink order, and one of the wait staff brought out our drinks. We noticed the table next to us got a birthday dessert with a candle in it, and thought, that’ll be a nice finish to our dinner! The server didn’t return for about 20 minutes to take our dinner order. We ended up ordering 2 starters, 2 curries, and 2 sides. Then, once we got our food, he again took much too long to return once we were ready for boxes. None of this is that bad on its own. But then, to put the cherry on top, the server immediately brought the check back with our boxed up food. No birthday dessert (which is fine, but if they do it for others, they should make sure to do it for all guests who specified it was for a birthday when the staff asked). But not even an offer if we would like to order a dessert, which I also happily would have!

All things considered, that type of disinterest in the customer experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Wish it didn’t, because again the food was very good! Hopefully that server can improve for the benefit of future guests.

I loooove the food here. Every thing the server recommended was incredible. The atmosphere is so sweet. I felt like I was in a living room. It can be a bit loud for my taste, but I honestly didn’t care. High recommend

Go here. My last meal here was one of the best experiences I have had in LA. Everything was incredible and the service is outstanding. You sit in a garden too and it’s such a great atmosphere. I highly recommend the kampachi or anything similar it’s always great. The African curry and the chili platter are must gets but you can’t go wrong with anything here. The only thing I think could be improved is the drink list could be a bit extended but it is still quite good, just a few more cocktails would be great!

On our last day in Santa Monica, we decided to treat ourselves by dining at a Michelin Bib restaurant. Although it was on the expensive side, we were thrilled with our choice! The ambiance was both beautiful and welcoming, with an abundance of dried flowers hanging from the ceiling and tables adorned with lovely floral bouquets. Our server was incredibly attentive, and when I mentioned that half of my roti was burnt, he promptly brought a freshly made replacement.
We ordered the papaya salad, soy squash, devil's chicken, jasmine rice, and roti to share. My daughter, known for being a picky eater, chose the Ora King Salmon appetizer and pork dumplings. To our delight, she finished both dishes and absolutely loved them. I started taking pictures of our food, but we were so eager to try the dishes that I forgot to take pictures! Even though we didn't order any drinks and just had tap water and hot water with lemon, our bill still exceeded $100 USD. This restaurant is a fantastic choice if you're in the mood to splurge.

Visiting from Michigan and Cobi’s was recommended to us for dinner. It was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. My favorite dish was the butter chicken, so tender and rich with flavor. This restaurant is a must visit if you are in the area!

Diner Review №32

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Cobi’s, and I can’t stop raving about the experience! The Indian fusion cuisine is an absolute delight, blending traditional flavors with creative twists that left my taste buds dancing.

Every dish we tried was phenomenal, but the buttery short ribs and the roti were a standout—bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a memorable night out.

What truly set the experience apart was the impeccable service provided by Alberto. He was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. His recommendations were spot on and added so much to our dining experience.

Cobi’s is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates exceptional food and outstanding service.

Diner Review №33

Easily one of my favourite restaurants ever. It's my go to spot for special occasions and time with my loved ones.

This time we went with the scallops and African curry. Strongly suggest !

Diner Review №34

Charming, reasonably priced, but underwhelming in flavor - as a lover of South / Southeast Asian cuisine, Cobi’s is a spot I wanted to be good but unfortunately left underwhelmed by (~3.5 stars if Google allowed that)

The one main highlight on the menu were the curry puffs - pastry was nicely flaky and tender, and the spiced filling paired really well with the tamarind ketchup. The butter chicken was good as well, but was quite sweet in a way that took a while to have grow on you. The beef rendang was okay - beef was well-cooked but the flavors were flat and forgettable

Unfortunately ~half the dishes we got were misses: the honey nut squash tasted only of a somewhat acrid sambal, the pork dumplings had little flavor besides the tartness of the nam jim jaew, and the thai tea pudding wasn’t worth finishing (despite my fervent love of boba). The roti was limp and underwhelming

The ambiance is lovely but laid back, with lush greenery/florals, dim lighting, and vintage plates giving the space a cozy vibe. Service was efficient & attentive, and prices were reasonable - I only hoped the food would be stronger

Diner Review №35

I wish they had small bowls to eat rice and curry in.

Diner Review №36

Amazing atmosphere and attention to detail. Beautiful space and amazing food.

Diner Review №37

Albert was AMAZING 💫 He was so attentive, thoughtful and made the meal
a magical experience. He recommended the chef’s selection that was out of this world.
I highly recommend!

Diner Review №38

Alberto is the best! Had dinner there and he absolutely took care of us. Such great service! Food was amazing that Devil Chicken Curry ain’t playin.

Diner Review №39

The service was so bad it ruined the experience, the staff is aggressive and rude even when you are super friendly with them. The waiter was friendly but littearly didn’t come to our table at all for the first 40 minutes.

Diner Review №40

We had the African curry, nasi goreng (fried rice), and a mushroom dish. Everything was very delicious; however, we felt the food was overpriced, especially since the portions are also smaller compared to other similar cuisine restaurants we’ve had in LA.

Diner Review №41

One of the best restaurants in LA - period.

Diner Review №42

Cobi's gets 5 stars in every category. Don't miss this amazing dining experience!

Awesome cozy place, feels like visiting someone’s living room.

Diner Review №47

Very slow servis not good person

Diner Review №48

Food is something different, we liked it.

Diner Review №49

Must go in Santa Monica! Restaurant has great decor and vintage floral wallpaper. Our waitress was engaging and explained the menu to us well.

Kanpachi crudo was fresh and rich from the coconut dressing. Pork belly salad was tangy and spicy with crunchy peanuts and pork belly skin. Beef short rib was so tender it was falling off the bone. Devil chicken curry was the definite highlight. It was so spicy and expertly seasoned with various spices, it paired perfectly with roti. Thai tea pudding was delicious especially if you enjoy boba! Highly recommend this restaurant for everyone in LA!

Diner Review №50

This place deserves a Micheline star. I’m surprised it doesn’t have one yet. The food was insanely good. The perfect butter chicken was the perfect blend of spice and a subtle sweet. Everything here was perfection. But the best was the service. Our server was Mashon and he went above and beyond. This place is like a moving machine. They keep there work organized, and keep everybody working consistently. Our food came out quick, and Mashon was a delight. He made sure we were doing good and did things that we were thinking without asking for it. Perfect dinner spot

Diner Review №51

Diner Review №53

Have eaten here 3 times.

A bit slow because understaffed but the food and wine made up for it. Takes forever to order and get water.

We got the classics tasting menu and everything was delicious. Great flavors.

Highly recommend the roti, branzino, nasi goreng
Liked: dumplings, mushroom, butter chicken
Ok: salmon app from raw bar, curry puffs, sundae
Note: the devil curry is actually spicy

Very fair pricing. Cute decor. Killer date night spot

Wish they had more bathrooms and more servers.

Diner Review №54

Aside from the fact that the ambiance is my dream, the menu is allergen-friendly (they even have a dedicated gluten-free menu!) and the food is UNREAL, what stood out most was the SERVICE!!! Ricky (the manager) went absolutely above and beyond to make my experience the most memorable and nurturing. The rest of the staff is incredible and so caring and attentive too. I am jet lagged and didn’t realize I hadn’t eaten today and almost fainted when standing outside waiting for a table. Ricky quickly got me a sprite, a chair, a blanket and sat me at a corner table the moment he saw I was lightheaded close to fainting. Please note all of this happened AND my food came in UNDER 5 MINUTES. They brought the Jasmine rice out first basically right when I sat down followed by the curry (which was life-changing and allergy-friendly by the way - I can’t do gluten or soy) soon after. The whole staff checked on me a bunch of times to make sure I was ok and even gave me dessert on the house… which was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I had the Thai tea pudding with boba, which also is gluten-free! As a new customer, I can hands down say I am now a forever fan. Run here, don’t walk. Also Cobi’s is really cute for date night, friend night, solo dinner, drinks and more. The ambiance is cozy and romantic but also fun. Forever grateful and forever a fan!!!!! They saved my night and took so much care to make sure I was ok, AND THE FOOD IS 10/10. Can’t get better than that. To whoever is in charge of the $, Everyone deserves a big raise because they’re all amazing… especially Ricky.

Sitting at the patio at the old wooden table with plates that my grandmas used to have made me miss them. Can’t believe we’re in LA. Must be back in Indonesia. Back in the 70s. The decor, different tables, different chairs, colourful mozaic lamps, the only missing are my Omas. We were greeted by handsome warm and professional greeter and server. Good start so far. Then the food started to come. And it’s an explosion of tastes. Didn’t expect that. The mushroom satay is a revelation, the mistake mushroom, meaty, marinated in green sauce was succulent and unexpected, presented with 3 different dipping sauces: matah (raw chili sauce which usually is VERY spicy but this one fresh, stings but one could absolutely enjoy it, then 2 other peanut sauces). It’s an absolute marvel. Then the chicken satay was juicy and would hit you with tastes bringing you back home, peanuts, sweet soybean sauce, enough tanginess with hint of turmeric just perfect. The curry puffs are light and crunchy with samosa-tasting fillings. It’s a winner. The rendang wrap is all rendang, cooked to perfection, meat cooked long enough to allow the spices and coconut milk tenderise it yet balanced by the pickled cauliflower tucked into the wrap that reminds me of a flaky paratha. Genius. The dhal wrap was another dance in your mouth it feels like scooping your butter paratha into a rich bowl of yellow dhal. I’m transported back to Mumbai. Lastly we had the fried chicken which was juicy yet crunchy and full of flavour. What a home cooked meal a thousands of miles away from home. Made me really miss my Omas.

Love it here. My go-to place in my neighborhood taking visitors out to dinner. Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, totally unpretentious.

Diner Review №63

We went in for brunch and had a great time. I hope everyone gets to visit for brunch.

1. Food : We got the Nasi Gorang with shrimp, Rendang Roti Wrap, Pork Belly Salad. We didn't get to finish the Pork Belly salad but it was great. We are definitely coming back soon to have them. The roti wrap was beautiful, so much flavor and different textures. We devoured it down, washed in down with some Lychee Fizz 😊. The restaurant also gave us ice cream sundae with browny bits, and it was just enough of sweetness. I recommend all the menu we got, and I might get them again!

2. Atmosphere/ Service : Everyone is so nice. Like reallllly nice. The experience was super amazing. It was pretty clear that every customer was taken care of, and they so fast with resolving any issues with our meals. Thank you to all staff members who made our day!!

Diner Review №64

This restaurant makes awful food that they claim to be southeast asian. We ordered a pork belly dish that was overcooked and dry and the server told us with a straight face that’s how it’s supposed to be made. She said she would talk to the kitchen and never returned. The branzino for $40 was half a fish and burnt to a crisp.

Served also complained about no tip when she provided absolutely abysmal service. Wouldn’t take my worst enemy here.

Diner Review №65

3.5 rounded up to 4. Went in with super high expectations given the other ratings here and the Michelin Bib Gourmand designation, so given those high expectations, we were all kind of disappointed.

The space is beautiful--particularly the patio. It's just kind of a warm, cozy (not temperature-wise!) space that's so inviting to enter. I would suggest dressing warmly if you plan to sit outside. Because of the design (low ceiling, lots of foliage), there weren't any heat lamps near us and it did get rather chilly out there. They offered us blankets after we sat down, but we didn't take advantage of them.

Service was very friendly and kind, but they were very busy (which I hear is the norm for them) so it was rather slow. I guess they get a lot of takeout orders which really back up the kitchen.

Food-wise, here's what I liked:

Nasi goreng - had a nice sweetness to it, and we ordered with the sambal on the side to make it not spicy.

Butter chicken - It wasn't my favorite butter chicken ever, but it was tasty

Roti - This was pretty good, but rather expensive. Only two come in an order.

Soft serve sundae - this was BY FAR THE STAR OF THE SHOW. I could eat about 5 of them. You'd never be able to tell it was vegan.

Here's what I thought was just okay / wouldn't order again:

Mushrooms - sounded great on the menu, but for me, it lacked flavor. Beautiful presentation, though.

Squash - again, sounded awesome, but fell flat.

Samosas - In all fairness, I think everyone else at the table really liked these. But for me, they weren't nearly as good as my go-to Indian place, and I didn't love the dipping sauce.

At the end of the day, at this price point and because I didn't LOVE anything (besides the sundae), I wouldn't return, but definitely was glad to have tried it and experienced the charming ambiance.

Diner Review №66

Amazing food, every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was exceptional! New favorite in Santa Monica!

Diner Review №67

So lively, so fun! The four of us tried both tasting menus and...WOW!!!!!!!!!! Everything was spectacular. Thanks for a great evening, we'll be back soon!!!

Diner Review №68

Beautiful environment but the food was mid and it’s tooo loud. The waiter for my table is friendly but sadly the restaurant does not offer hand towel before dining. The mask goreng is super mid idk why people recommending this dish so much… ora king salmon is amazing tho on the side note. Dry aged brazing comes with delicious sauce.overall it’s a 4 star place good for dates.

Diner Review №69

Fast and good.

Diner Review №70

The best Thai/Malaysian/Indonesian we have had on the west side. Small cool building close to downtown. Highly recommended to get a reservation because it was full as soon as they opened at 5. Must try the lemongrass pork dumplings appetizer! Curry was fantastic with real depth of flavor and correct mix of spicy/sweet/sour/umami you find in real SEA food. We got the diablo chicken curry and peanut curry (vegan!). The grilled chicken plate was fine but not worth $28, we would stick to the curries next time.

Diner Review №71

Lovely garden feminine ambiance and great service. I strongly suggest making a reservation in advance, as it tends to get quite busy.

The curry puffs (appetizer) and Mister Dal (entree) were delicious and enough food for 2 people (included a side of Jasmine rice and Roti - bread).

Enjoy!

Diner Review №72

My partner and I had date night around Santa Monica and tried to look up a few places to eat around the area. Most restaurants pretty much had the same "contemporary american" menu which was very basic. Cobi's had a mixed asian menu so we decided to check it out no reservation on a wednesday evening. Unfortunately, we never made it into the building as they seat walk-ins outside the building. Which was understandable given it has a michelin star.

We finally got seated and decided to order a few bites ex; the Honey Walnut Squash, Nasi Goreng with Cripsy Pork, Gai Yang Chicken with a side of Roti. I started off with the LYCHEE BLOSSOM drink which was basically was Lychee juice from the can. Hello? Where was the alcohol?? Finished it in a few sips and was just over it.

The first dish, The Honey Walnut Squash came out first and it was basically overcooked and hard to eat. The Nasi Goreng with the 2 pieces of Crispy pork that we paid an extra $8 for was decent. The Gai Yang Chicken was pretty decent as the side salad that came with it was really delicious and complimented the chicken so that was a plus. The Roti came out BURNT. Overall experience was literally 50/50 but it wasn't my favorite.

Diner Review №73

Let's be honest, Los Angeles has its fair share of sceney restaurants. Places where the lighting is better for selfies than seeing the menu, and the food feels like an afterthought. So, imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon Cobi's, tucked away on a quiet street in Koreatown. This wasn't some stark, minimalist space with exposed brick and Edison bulbs. This felt like...well, home.

Walk in, and you're greeted by a riot of flowers – climbing vines, overflowing centerpieces, blooms on every surface. It's the kind of place your grandma might take you for Sunday brunch, with a healthy dose of California cool thrown in. The welcome is just as warm, the staff genuinely happy to see you, ready to guide you through the menu that's a delightful mashup of Thai and Californian influences.

Now, about that menu. Don't let the floral wallpaper fool you, Cobi's takes its food seriously. The hamachi crudo, for instance, was a revelation. Forget the usual limp slices; these were thick, almost steak-like cuts, bathed in a cool citrus-coconut dressing that played beautifully with the fish's natural sweetness.

For something deeper, the daal was a revelation. A symphony of lentils, slow-cooked to creamy perfection, each bite revealing new layers of spice and earthiness. It's the kind of dish that demands a basket of warm roti to mop up every last drop.

And then there's the gai yang, the grilled chicken. Don't let its simplicity fool you. This was a masterclass in chicken cookery. The breast, incredibly moist and tender, possessed a depth of flavor that spoke of long marinades and a skilled hand on the grill.

Let's not forget the finale: the shave ice dessert. A seemingly unassuming mound of milky snow, it arrived adorned with a symphony of texture – agar jelly, popping boba, tofu pudding. One spoonful was a delightful shock – light, refreshing, and surprisingly complex. So good, in fact, that we found ourselves back at Cobi's the very next day, fingers crossed for a walk-in table and another shot at that shave ice magic.

Sure, there were a few stumbles. The nasi goreng felt a bit one-note, and the papaya salad, while perfectly pleasant, didn't quite sing the same song as the other dishes. But these were minor blemishes in an otherwise stellar experience.

Cobi's is more than just a restaurant; it's an invitation. An invitation to slow down, to savor the flavors, to feel the warmth of genuine hospitality. It's a place where the flowers are in bloom, the staff is friendly, and the food, at its best, is nothing short of extraordinary. I know I'll be back, drawn back by the promise of that hamachi crudo, the bottomless well of flavorful daal, and maybe, just maybe, another scoop of that magical shave ice.

We wanted to have a late dinner after arriving from the airport. When arriving the receptionnist told us that it is 9.31 pm and they don't serve after 9.30.
What a Lovely welcome !!!
I didn't know that the LA restaurant are worst than the adminstrative centers and offices, time is time, Hé show us his watch!!!
He said :The rule is the rule, come on!!! for 1 minute!!! In which world to you live !!!
I thought that he was joking but it was not the case unfortunatly
I wish you to travel abroad and to be welcomed this way 😞
Just an information: we let your clients going out from the restaurant for,at least, 1 minute and you saw us arriving, if we didn't we would have been arrived at the right time, is it a good answer ???
We won't have the chance to taste the food that seemed to be good and sorry to be so upset, but we couldn't eat thanks to this kind man. Life can be easy in LA, it was not the case for us thanks to your kind staff!!

Diner Review №79

If I am ever on death row, this will be my last meal.
My order: hibiscus iced tea, striped sea bass (raw), and branzino. Side of roti. Total was Pennie’s under $75 with tip etc.

Tea: I liked that they added lime. A nice twist.
Striped sea bass: SO good. Reminded me of Tom Kha soup. Strong lime and coconut notes. A complex sauce. Sweet, tangy, sour, herbal.
Branzino: cooked perfectly. I didn’t have any bones, though I was warned *twice* that the collar area may have small bones. I didn’t have any at all. The curry sauce was divine- concentrated flavours. So tasty I didnt want dessert- so I could let the curry sauce linger on my tongue. I paired it with a roti- recommended to sop up the sauce.

In all ive never come so close to licking my plate.

Service was 10/10. Greeted at the host, and they even asked me a question alluding to my Resy profile. Host and the waitress confirmed dietary restrictions, which was greatly appreciated.

Staff were always filling my water, and it never got below half full. My waitress recommended the striped bass and I was very happy she did.

The ambiance is like a house feel, and it’s absolutely aesthetic, and would make very cute instagram posts. Everywhere is pink and flowers and Tiffany lamps (see pics) it’s like they brought the garden inside

All in all, I will 100% come back!

This place is amazing. Cobi Marsh, who did a very popular pop up, opened Cobi's in this cute space in Santa Monica. Here you will get the best menu of Southeast Asian street fare and Marsh's signature curries set against a
vibrant interior with lively music most nights. It is just stunning inside.

They have the best of the best from from Indonesia and Vietnam to Thailand. It is all perfect. They also have Asian lagers.

The interior is amazing with jewel-toned upholstery, abstract greener, floral wallpaper and lovely low lighting. There is indoor and outdoor dinning.

Parking is on the street, mind the signs. It get very crowded. Make a reservation a few days a head of time if you can. Look to their website for the best way to do that.

This is fine dinning at its best. It is expensive and well worth it.

The service is great. You will be well taken care of. I promise.

The food is all good. Our favorites are the Butter Chicken, which is a must try, their pork dumplings and their curry puffs. Anything with curry is great.

This is a must stop in Santa Monica, just a must.

Vibes are all there at Cobi's! Get a spot on their patio, it's worth it. The small cozy space is incredibly inviting and makes you want to stay for hours. No pretentiousness here and all are welcome but the place is pretty small so I definitely recommend reservations. A perfect spot for a pre or post visit to the beach. Food leaves a little to be desired but would still come back! :)

We had a fantastic dinner here the other evening. Ambiance was immaculate, service impeccable, and the food? Exquisite. We loved every dish we ordered, but a few stand out favorites were the curry puffs, the daal, and the chili sampler platter. I was hesitant to order the daal at first, because while I love daal, it typically is not a show-stopping dish in my experience. But this absolutely proved me wrong. It was recommended by our server and it was a great choice. Deep and rich in flavor, layered and complex. Our friend ordered the Butter Chicken and had a similar review. Overall it was a fantastic night, and we will certainly be back as soon as possible. Thanks to the crew at Cobi's!

This is a cute little place to try South Asian food in Santa Monica. we made a reservation beforehand. the restaurant kept checking in to see if we were going to be there on time. we appreciated the service that started even before we sat down to eat.

we arrived around 9pm for dinner. it was a little too dark for my eyes. but it’s very pretty, well decorated! my daughter and i liked all the flowers everywhere.

the food was good too! we ordered grilled prawns, crispy pork belly salad, mushrooms, butter chicken, and Thai tea pudding for dessert. all of them were really good. the pork belly and pudding especially surprised us!

we found a parking space nearby with no issues. highly recommend this place, for dates, families, or friends gatherings, etc. you can dress up but i feel like casual clothes will also be fine.

Cobi's is one of the most enjoyable meals I have had in LA. Southeast Asian cuisine
Every dish is packed with flavor in a great way.
The kanpachi didn’t look as good as other pics but was delicious
Butter chicken was good but a bit heavy.
The beef short rib with tamarind was perfectly soft and juicy
And great cocktails!

Diner Review №89

food is absolutely incredible. all that is pictured is the african curry and butter chicken, but we also ordered pork dumplings, curry puffs, and mushroom appetizer. my boyfriend and i definitely overate but the food was fantastic so i can’t even complain. flavors were complex and each dish was somehow better than the last.

cocktail options are limited - they only offer two i believe and they came out QUICK as if they’re premade. i don’t think that they are, but i wouldn’t go so far as to call them hand crafted. yummy nonetheless. it seems like they are more geared towards wine. waiter even asked at the beginning of our meal if we wanted a glass of wine. typically i’m only asked if i want something other than water. they have “skin contact” wine on their menu which i’ve never seen before. i ordered one and it was good!

they don’t accept cash which is a little odd to me. we also were not informed until the end of our meal.

We did take out, so cannot really comment on the atmosphere and table service, although the interior of the restaurant looks darling, intimate and warm. The service at the host stand in picking up our take out order was friendly and efficient.

The food here is fantastic and well portioned. The butter chicken is some of the best that I have had and the roti was excellent, flaky, warm, buttery. Jasmine rice was great with the butter chicken. The pork dumplings were also delicious with a great accompanying sauce/seasoning. We also appreciated the option to add an additional dumpling for our group of three. We ordered two butter chicken, two rice, three roti and had a nice amount of leftovers for one person's lunch the following day.

Would love to come back and dine in, but would be glad to come back for take-out!

Diner Review №93

Way too expensive for little Indian food. $18.00 fir a cup of curry soup and you have to pay $6.00 extra for sticky rice? Is it Chinese or Indian?

Diner Review №94

Good experience, interesting food, nice ambiance

Diner Review №95

Such a great restaurant with generous portions and quality food! The atmosphere is fantastic, and the place is adorably set up. My only issue, which is more of a personal preference than a complaint, was the level of spice. I get pretty inflamed from spices, so I requested that the spice be minimized, and they assured me that the lentil dal wasn’t spicy. Unfortunately, it still had quite a bit of heat, which caused some discomfort. Again, I should have known better, but their food is just so delicious—especially the curry puffs and prawns! I’d love to come back, but I’m concerned that all their dishes might be spicy. Still, I highly recommend it to others!

Diner Review №96

I have to preface this by saying it was incredibly busy and hectic as they were having a Resy event when we booked our reservation, but I was severely disappointed with the food. We started off pretty well with the curry puffs. They had a crispy, yet fluffy exterior and a nice soft filling reminiscent of a classic samosa. The tamarind ketchup was also a nice touch as well. The kanpachi was also alright despite the fish's slight chew. Unfortunately, the popular butter chicken was extremely flat - as if they forgot the masala entirely - and the nasi goreng required the sambal from our complimentary Resy 'snack' to exceed the standard of a typical takeout fried rice.

I don't think this restaurant got it's excellent reputation from the food we tried today, so I'd love to try it again and get the experience I had hoped to get. The service was fine and they handled my allergy well so no complaints on that, but the food was definitely one of the biggest disappointments I've had eating in LA.

I was very impressed with the food, menu options, atmosphere, and service. Excellent addition to the Santa Monica restaurant scene. Every dish we had was done really well and the flavors were on point. The decor and the environment has a vibe and a unique look. The colors, flower arrangements, the music, the food was all positive and impressive. Highly recommend Cobi’s.

We had a reservation for 7:15pm and we arrived at 7:23pm - 8 minutes late, and we called on the way nobody answered. Also nobody called us earlier to ask if we are going to arrive or not.

When we arrive they gave our table to somebody else. And instead of being kind and helpful the doorman was very rude and also lied that we ‘changed the reservation from 7:15pm to 7pm’ earlier today. The booking was done by my GF weeks ago and she lost her phone two days ago.

Overall very frustrating experience.

Diner Review №101

Beyond being one of my top 5 restaurants in LA for delicious Indonesian food, the service is next level. On a recent visit I made a comment to our server Alberto about how I wish I had a bib or apron to prevent staining my shirt and scarf. Next thing I know Alberto delivers a freshly-laundered apron from the kitchen. Above and beyond is the only way I can describe our entire meal. Thank you, Alberto!

I must’ve just gained 5 pounds and I do not regret it. Each platter was a delicious surprise, comprised of various asian flavors. The details of the dish were bold and unfamiliar but together they created a beautiful composition of fine dining.
The atmosphere was a lovely combination of outdoor-indoor dining and encompassed a wonderful modern design that still held its charm. With a little bit of imagination you could be in an Italian garden by the beach.
Finally, the staff were kind, personable and informative. They added a little extra joy to an already joyous outing.

In A Nutshell:

-Cobi's is a uber popular restaurant located in Santa Monica.
-They serve various dishes from SE Asia & India.
-The location is pretty cool, they have a beautiful garden patio & the building appears to be an old house.
-I like the funky decor w/ plenty of green plants inside & outside & the cool wall paper.
-The service is very good from the host to the servers to the kitchen staff, everyone is on their "A" game & you feel very welcome, they have great synergy.
-The menu has an all-star selection of the above mentioned areas.
-I really loved their Butter Chicken & roti bread!
-I also tried their Green Papaya Salad, Kampachi, Strawberry Thai Basil Shaved Ice, Grilled Prawns & Gai Yang Chicken.
-Everything comes out very fresh & fast.

Overall, this is a really busy restaurant for good reason, I highly suggest making a reservation!

They are great, my friend had some religious reasons to avoid some food items and the server helped with alterations to the item when possible. Great place to go

Diner Review №111

Dined on a Monday and it was packed so make a reservation or first come first serve first served at the patio.
5 star in everything. I highly recommend branzino, butter chicken, ribs

Diner Review №112

Cobi’s is the answer to all your dining questions in Santa Monica. Whenever someone asks where they should go for lunch or dinner my answer is always Cobi’s. Chef and crew consistently knock it out the park and I’m constantly finding myself craving the grilled prawns. Beef shortrib falls off the bone and when I dip the roti in the butter chicken there is always a moan of pleasure that escapes. Make a reservation and don’t sleep on the wine list and dessert. Hottest scene on Main Street and the mood is elevated at all times.

Diner Review №115

The food was exceptional
The service was medicore
We weren’t given serving spoons for our food it took several waiters to come give us silverware even a spoon to mix our coffee w milk and sugar

When our pancake's/french toast came they wanted us to use the same plates and silverware we had hot sauce and savory food with which would have made our sweet dishes taste awful. The waiting staff made us feel like we were asking a lot when it was the bare minimum for restaurant service

They weren’t even busy yet so we were one of a few parties there before it got busy.

we asked for silverware several times
Still tipped 20% but thought the service was disappointing for a great restaraunt

We weren’t asking for a lot just the bare minimum of service

Finally was able to checkout Cobi’s. Love the vibe and outdoor seating. Service was okay. The food was generally good but way overpriced for what it is. The butter chicken is average, branzino oversauced. Only standouts were the kanpachi strawberry shaved ice. Drinks were nothing memorable.

Much better meal options out there for this price range.

Diner Review №123

Make a reservation beforehand. We showed up without one and lucked out to get the last patio seat available. Otherwise it would have been a 2-hour wait. The food is so worth it though. The kanpachi didn’t look as good as other pics but was delicious. The beef short ribs were the best I’ve ever had. Fall-off-the-bone tender, juicy, and so flavourful. The standout restaurant of our LA trip.

After being highly recommended by a friend of a friend during our visit to LA, we dined here for my boyfriend's birthday celebration.

First and foremost, the food was phenomenal. Nothing was left over, and everything was flavorful, aromatic, and delectable. It did help that we brought the best seasoning: hunger.

The curry puffs were the best I've had thus far, and my nasi goreng was the perfect portion with a nice spicy kick to it. For dessert, our thai tea pudding looked like a bowl of tapioca balls, but the creamy pudding below is revealed after the first bite.

The downside was our server. He rushed us with our orders and left us jilted when we left within an hour, while other tables behind us have been there for longer periods of time. Hopefully, you'll have more patient staff if you decide to dine here.

Diner Review №130

Best nasi goreng I’ve had, perfectly balanced flavor. The beef rendang was a bit too salty/heavy for me and I felt like the texture was a bit hard and not tender enough. Butter chicken was good but a bit heavy. Grilled prawns were delicious. Strawberry basil shave ice was a wide variety of textures and fun to eat.

We had the curry puffs, dumplings, butter chicken, nasi goreng, gai yang chicken, roti, jasmine rice, and thai tea pudding. Loved each dish. The meal was on the spicy side so not a place for those with heartburn.

Cute little restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and amazing food! Me and a friend came here as walk-ins on a Friday evening around 5:45 pm, and they sat us even though they had a reservation for the table at 7:15. They asked us if 1.5hrs was enough time and we said yes. Everything we ordered was incredible, but my favorite was the naci goreng! The service was great, and the food arrived relatively quickly after we ordered. Highly recommend this place, oh, and definitely get the hibiscus tea and save room for the Thai tea pudding!

Diner Review №151

The food here is great, which is why I decided to bring my sister and her husband here for his birthday. I was really excited to show them this unique spot, especially since I had been here before and loved it. However when we arrived, we were told our table was still being used and they were waiting for the people before us to leave. Our reservation was at 7. We then proceeded to wait another 40 minutes past our reservation time before we were seated. I completely understand if it takes 10-20 minutes past a reservation to be seated, but having to stand outside for 40 minutes when I reserved the table in advance is absolutely ridiculous. When we were finally seated, the hostess and the server said nothing to us about the wait time. And then we had to flag the server down to actually order food since we were starving by that point. Really disappointed with the service here, will not be coming back.

One of the best South East Asian restaurants on the west side. Grill Shrimp is a must, but be careful of the Devil Chicken, the three chili sign is no joke. A little late to the Cobi’s party, but better late than never, right?

The answer to that is 100% when it comes to this southeast Asian restaurant. Their motto is “join us amongst the flowers” and they should add to that “for some amazing food”. Everything on the menu looked good, so we opted for the Chef’s Selection. Here’s everything it came with ⬇️:

🐠 1x Raw Bar - kanpachi
🍤 2x Snacks - 3pc. grilled prawns + curry puffs
🍛 1x Curries - Beef Rendang
💨 1x Wood Grill - beef short rib
🫓 with a side of roti

Everything was flavorful, hot (temperature & spice), and the order of dishes flowed well together. Highly recommend grabbing a bottle of wine and food with friends here.

During my last visit in LA I’ve eaten at Cobi’s multiple times… a month after that I am considering to book a flight from London to LA just to eat this food again… it was unbelievably good!!!🫠

Diner Review №174

Great tasting food, service was attentive, atmosphere/decor was great. We were told to order more food than we thought necessary, by the time we got the last dish - we couldn't finish it. Unfortunately, they packed it up in such a small container that you could tell half of the curry was thrown out! Recommend to use a bigger container!

Diner Review №175

Great vibe, great food. Respectable pricing and unparalleled taste. This place is gem. I cannot wait to return.

Diner Review №176

Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious, and priced very fairly. Each dish is a new surprise for the senses. The staff are very courteous and attentive. They offer two sampler style options that give you a taste of most everything, and it's well enough to feed 4. The short ribs are very tender and delicious, the prawns are covered in a sauce most divine. The butter curry chicken along with the crispy roti was definitely one of my favorites. Everything was delightful, and the boba on top of the Thai tea pudding was especially tasty. If you haven't been here yet- what are you waiting for?!

Loved the food! The chefs classics were amazing with butter chicken curry, nasi goreng, branzino, dumplings and a delicious dessert. However the music was blaring for the inside dining area, even as early as our 7pm reservation. It actually got louder as dinner went on. I am a fan of all music, especially the reggae they play, but we literally couldn’t hear each other or the staff and all tables around were yelling, making the restaurant even louder. Love the food, decor and vibe but please turn down the music so we can visit.

This place totally lives up to its hype and is 100% deserving of the Michelin Bib Gourmand award. I would highly recommend one of the chef’s tasting menus to let the chef take your taste buds on a gastronomic journey bursting with flavor at every twist and turn. Each dish is truly a unique delight and will wow your senses. I would highly recommend the Beef Rendang, the butter chicken, the green papaya salad, and the dry aged branzino. You have to order the roti too of course! The atmosphere feels like your rich grandmothers living room with pink wallpaper and vintage- looking wood tables. They also serve the dishes on mix and matched antique porcelain plates with unique designs, which adds to the vibe. You have to make a reservation here in advance, unless you’re cool sitting outside at a high top (fyi when we sat here the service was not as good as usual).

Came here for a friends birthday and had a mixed experience due to multiple server mistakes. The decor and vibe a stunning - we sat in the garden and it was lovely.

At first our server (I think her name was Chica) was super friendly. 3 of our table got the set menu and the other 2 (me included) have dietary restrictions so we just got an entree each. She confirmed with us (twice!!) that I was vegetarian and my friend gluten free.
My entree came and seemed fishy. I asked her if there was oyster sauce in it and she said shrimp paste. we said I was vegetarian twice, why is there fish paste? She then blamed it on us for not specifically ordering the dish vegetarian, even though we had confirmed with her at least twice that I was veggie and my friend GF. So that ruined the vibe.

Then they forgot to give my friends the last dish of their menu ( the branzino) and that’s the dish they were most excited about. They took it off the bill and then my entree too which was nice of the manager.

I would give this place another try (maybe brunch) but if the service is the same then I won’t come back sadly.

Diner Review №198

Food and atmosphere are so good. Service is great, recommend the dumplings, sauce sampler, shaved ice just to name a few!

Diner Review №199

One of those LA places I just don’t get. The food is ok but nowhere near worth the price tag. It’s cute, the staff feels like they’re working somewhere cool, and it’s a well manicured space. I can tell the owners have a good eye and an interesting concept, but the whole thing just doesn’t add up. It’s fusion Asian based on really delicious and cheap street dishes that are now smaller, less tasty, and far more expensive. The seats in the restaurant are too close together and sadly, the outdoor seating is a total waste as Santa Monica has been ceded to the homeless. This place would be phenomenal if it was able to pull off its concept at street food prices without the pretense.
