Everything we ordered was delicious (especially the eggplant and the scallops, oh and the ice cream!). Reservation was easy and their wine collection is pretty good too (though small).

Underwhelming Fine Dining Experience for Valentine’s day special.

For a $100 per person fine dining meal, I expected far better. My wife and I, both pescatarians, wanted to select the vegetarian option, only to be told at dinner that it wasn’t available. No prior notice was given about pre-selecting meals, forcing the kitchen to scramble for substitutes.

Service was disappointingly slow—only two servers for ten tables—leaving us waiting for over two hours.

Food-wise, the Gio shrimp and another shrimp dish were solid (8/10), but the octopus was tough, old and fatty (2/10), and the fish was overcooked and not fresh as well (3/10).

The one saving grace? Dessert. The mango sticky rice was phenomenal (10/10).

At this price point, the inconsistency in service and food quality is hard to overlook. Definitely not worth the cost.

Amazing hand made curries and desserts. Top of my Bay Area Thai restaurant list together with Nari now. Also great service.

go for the tasting menu. 10 courses allow you to try everything and you wont leave hungry. great mixture of northern and southern thai food.

Having a truly exceptional dish is rare enough to merit a review. The Pork Jowl salad was exactly that and made the whole experience worthy of 5 stars. Service was great, food was great. Atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, but so what since the food is good!

I had an amazing dinner at this restaurant yesterday, and it was an unforgettable experience! I ordered the black cod grilled curry, and it was absolutely incredible. The texture of the black cod was so soft and juicy, perfectly cooked without being overpowering.

Another standout dish was a unique curry. It wasn’t a soup; instead, it had like a cake texture, which was a delightful surprise. The curry was rich with herbs, not too spicy but full of depth. I also requested a substitution for Brussels sprouts, and they were perfectly prepared, not bitter at all, just delicious.

A special mention goes to Sun, the server. He was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. We had a great conversation about the curry and its cultural significance. It was awesome!!

I highly recommend this restaurant. I can’t wait to return!

Diner Review №13

The food here is very good. Everything we ordered was great except for the coconut ice cream for dessert which was awful as it tasted like a candle. Like, literally a candle. It was really disgusting.

The stars of the meal were black cod, beef, Tom kha mushroom soup. It was all very good and we enjoyed it very much. I wish they had better lighting and I hoped for better ambience but that’s where the restaurant lacks…

The pricing is OK for SF and the overall quantity is fine…

I would go back again but will not be ordering the coconut ice cream dessert.

Diner Review №14

Wonderful unique flavors. Not your typical Thai place.

Diner Review №15

Wow. Everything was amazing. Spicy (just the right amount) and so flavorful. And the service was great and prompt and kind. Yall are awesome.

Diner Review №16

The massaman curry with purple rice is very tasty, but could be more substantial given how much you pay for it.

Diner Review №17

If you have sticky rice on the menu, let people order sticky rice.

Good food but small portions and the server was pushy.

Diner Review №18

Diner Review №19

Excellent service and tasty dishes. I would recommend everything except red curry of chili stuff. Dessert (young coconut ice cream) is amazing! All dishes are tiny though, definitely on the pricier side.

Diner Review №20

Diner Review №21

Our recent visit with a group of seven was not pleasant and we ended up hungry still after paying ~$100 per person. This place doesn't worth the hype.

Pre-fixe Menu: While a pre-fixe menu was mandated, prior communication regarding this requirement would have been appreciated.

Service: Waitress gave my friend a look when she was serving scallope and my friends asked for plates. She could have ackownledge and asked my friends to hold

!!Portion Size!!: We were surprised by the portion size of the main courses, which is inadequate for a group of seven, particularly considering the price per person (~$90). While we raised this concern promptly, the response did not adequately address it. when comparing online, the portion for 7 is slightly larger than for 2. What a scam !

Food Quality: The overall quality of the dishes was below expectations. Excessive use of sugar and oil was evident, and some seafood (specifically squid) exhibited slimy. The scallops, however, were good.

Tipping Policy: The inclusion of a mandatory 20% gratuity based on the post-tax amount deviated from customary practices and lacked transparency.

Diner Review №22

Diner Review №23

I wouldn't recommend going here with a group larger than 4 people. The portion sizes don't scale with the size of your party.

They didn't mention that the family style menu($70 pp)is the only option for groups of 6 or more during any process upfront(reservation, allergy check over the phone or the reminder text)

For the entree: beef cheek mussan curry (p2), squid with ink (p3), and branzino with fish sauce (no picture, but we only received TWO fried fillets), we only got one plate to share for 7 people (see pictures for size).

Considering the amount of food (nearly $100 pp) it’s way too overpriced

And as for the taste? Meh... you can find better options elsewhere.

Diner Review №24

Some dishes are good, but the food are not authentic Thai. One big problem is the portion size. You can only do family style if you have a group larger than 6. However, the portion is not big enough to share. You can not get to even 60% full if there are more men than women in your group. It might be good to come here in smaller groups so you can order flexiblely. We expected more given the price for the family sharing menu.

the most disappointing and overhyped meal i’ve been to in the most recent times. lauded by the infatuation and other lists as a must try restaurant, prik hom falls flat in all aspects. the food was cooked well but had one dimensional flavor with tiny portions, service was okay, and the interior more representative of a fast casual restaurant than somewhere that costs $50 without drinks. overall, would not recommend nor come back.

scallop: this dish he’s pretty good. scallop was cooked well.

hat yai fried chicken: skip. cooked well but too dry and lacked flavor. needed a sauce to pair with.

massaman curry: again, cooked well but way too sweet. one dimensional flavor. skip.

eggplant: actually the best dish of the night and would get again. smoky, well flavored.

purple rice: standard but pretty good. scam that it costs extra though.

Been wanting to try this place for so long but left disappointed. I hate leaving negative reviews especially for small new businesses.

Small dishes are decent but nothing to write home about. The massaman curry is overly sweet to a point where it feels like someone intentionally spills sugar in it. The dish would’ve been great if they cut 75% of the sugar. The squid with ink sauce is slimy, undercooked, and salty. We shared one piece to try, but the rest was left untouched. It was that bad.

I don’t mind spending $200 for 2 people, but overall the experience is mediocre at best for us.

Diner Review №30

We were lucky to snag a same day reservation last minute.. and omg . ❤️❤️❤️for a sec I thought we were in Thailand.. somewhere north & our warm
Smiling server confirm chef is from Chiang Rai .. food was fantastic, as authentic as what we ate in Thailand.. spice level is not watered down .. a big plus !!!

Diner Review №31

We had an excellent meal at Prik Hom. Each dish was very unique, flavorful and the food felt very fresh and light.

The scallops are a must! The beef curry and shrimp stir fry were also great. Portions are on the smaller side so you can try a number of plates. The Thai tea was a nice pairing as well (they kindly adjusted the sweetness level!). We will definitely be back for a causal dinner.

Diner Review №32

Unfortunately, we didn’t like the food at all. Salad and curries were very sugary. Our server Son gave us looks and tones for not ordering scallops. We were avoiding shell fish but he never asked if we had dietary restrictions.

It gets loud as a bar that you can’t talk to your partner. My date night was completely ruined. Skip it.

Diner Review №35

Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally nabbed a reservation and made it! Sadly, it wasn't worth the hype or the price tag.

I arrived a little early for my 6:45 reservation and was asked to wait while they prepared a table. Interesting because all but two of the tables were open.

First thing I noticed was how loud it was inside, despite there only being 5 patrons in the restaurant.

The scallop lemongrass appetizer was good. The pickled lemongrass and fried shallots? meshed well with the coconut broth.

The eggplant with basil had a very strange burnt oil like flavor. The Yellowtail Jack Red Curry was a bit dry and the only flavor I really got from the homemade curry was sweetness.

By the time we left, the restaurant was very loud and full. And there it is, finally tried it and won't be back.

Diner Review №37

The food here was really good: the Grilled Beef Curry and the Umami Spicy Shrimp stood out for me, while the Pork Larb, Squid with Salted Egg Sauce, and Brussels Sprouts were above average as well. Fried chicken was just ok in terms of flavor, but was really crispy, which I liked. Staff provided good service, atmosphere was good for conversation, and the prices were reasonable. The only downside is that serving sizes were quite small, and my recommendation is to get a good amount of rice to pair with the dishes. 5 out of 5.

Diner Review №38

Food was ok but not impressive. It was a little sweet and oily for me. The price was ok considering the food quality - around $60 per person (including tax and tips).

Diner Review №39

Good food for sure. We especially liked the eggplant dish, other food was good but nothing amazing.
That said, in my opinion, not yet one of the 50 best restaurants. It didn't meet the expectations of all the hype from the media. If I have to choose a good high end Thai restaurant, I would go with the good old Kin Khao over Prik Hom for now until there is any change.

Diner Review №40

Loved our dinner at Prik Hom. Every dish had such complex flavors and was executed perfectly. Just wish it was easier to get a reservation so we could come back more often!

Diner Review №41

We had the March menu and it was perfect. Service was amazing and atmosphere was calm.

Things I would order again:
Lemon Grass scallops - perfect bite. rich, savory and spicy. Will be thinking about this often
The Yellowtail Jackb thicken red curry - sweet, spicy and layered. The fish was perfectly fried and gave it a nice texture to the curry. Really delicious.
Branzino - with a nicely dressed salad on the side. Refreshing and balanced

We ordered too much food so if we went back we wouldn't order these items although they were delicious as well:
Seafood omelette - huge chunks of dungness crab - was good but a little eggy
Crab Khao Soi shot - good, but could have passed or ordered another scallop instead

Will return and recommend!

Diner Review №42

Interesting unique Thai food. Desserts here are phenomenal.

Diner Review №43

Simple and laid back, when you first enter this little restaurant it feels rather unassuming. But your taste buds will be supremely satisfied after the small plates start arriving...oh the flavours!!! our favorites were the Brussels sprouts, beef curry (that sauce!), purple rice and the eggplant!!!

The menu changes seasonally so we will indeed need to come back for more!

Diner Review №48

Yum, yum yum. Small, delicious, delicate and carefully crafted portions that satisfy every taste bud. The beef curry was worth the long drive to SF under a massive storm. Wrapping up with the coconut ice cream felt like the best way to end our meal, not too heavy and a delight. A finer dining experience that you can taste the spices and care in each dish. Thank you for the wonderful waiter who helped us get a table on a very busy night - highly recommend making reservations and can’t wait to return and try everything else in the menu.

Diner Review №50

Smallll portions, but very tasty. My friends and I took the “family style” approach and damn near ordered one of everything on the menu.

HIGHLY recommend the Brussels Sprouts, Grilled Beef Curry, Squid with Salted Egg Sauce and Eggplant with Basil dishes. Seasoned to perfection, absolutely delicious.

Some of the other dishes left a little to be desired but overall an enjoyable meal with good service and nice indoor atmosphere (dope art to boot).

Wine selection was good. We went with some orange wine (Bheeyo) and that didn’t disappoint. Nice compliment to a pleasant meal.

Diner Review №51

Incredible meal and great service. Beat eggplant I’ve ever had. The mushroom soup was delicious and the chili jam needs to be bottled and sold. I also loved the roasted rice tea and scallops.

Absolutely the best Thai food I've had in northern California.

If i could give 6 stars i would. Every dish was incredible, super inventive, tasty, balanced. We had the scallops, naked shrimp, pork larb, halibut curry, and eggplant thai, with purple rice as well as the smoked young coconut dessert. Recommend everything but i have a feeling you cant to wrong. Even the coconut water was best ive had.

Fantastic new neighborhood Thai restaurant in the Richmond! Prik Hom was recently listed on the New York Times best new restaurants list and was included in the Michelin Guide (but doesn't yet have a star). Of course, in true SF fashion, it immediately booked up for the year. It's a small restaurant with maybe 30 seats max. Service was friendly!

The restaurant is fairly modest in style, but with nice art along the walls. Fortunately, prices are also relatively modest, with starters in the $12-16 range, mains in the $17 - $29 range, and desserts for $12; so a 3-course meal (without drinks) can come in just under $50 before tax/tip. Expect modern takes on traditional thai food, including curries, stir fry dishes, thai salads, oxtail soup, and more. I especially loved the Smoked Young Coconut Ice Cream, the Ultimate Thai Iced Tea, the Beef Cheek Panang Curry, and the Scallops and Lemongrass.

Kudos to Prik Hom for not including hidden fees or surcharges, like the infamous SF Employer Mandate. +1 star for that!

Diner Review №70

Just okay. I expected more; it's flavorful but wasn't impressed by anything in particular and not a 50 best in the country or Michelin good. We also had a 5pm reservation and by 6:30pm they were telling us we should leave because there was another reservation after us. We had no advance notice; they didn't even let us wait for our Uber to arrive. Really disappointing.

Diner Review №71

Authentic flavors with local ingredients. The fish curry was 🔥

Diner Review №72

The curries are incredible - aromatic with unique flavors, and they are not heavy or too creamy. Highly recommend all their fish items - especially the black cod / mussels curry and the shrimp stir fry.

Diner Review №73

Great Thai food but somewhat limited menu but everything i had was delicious. Try the purple rice with a spicy dish!

Diner Review №74

Incredible meal! Could not ask for better food. Had a lot of fun dishes including an incredible beef cheek curry and ox tail soup.

Diner Review №75

This restaurant might not be the top choice for vegetarians. The butternut squash fries, though well prepared and crunchy, unfortunately, fell a bit short in terms of flavor. The vegan curry was quite flavorful, however it erred on the side of excessive sweetness, prompting us to opt out of dessert entirely. While some reviewers have lauded the eggplant basil, our experience differed as we found it to be overly salty and lacking the nuanced flavors we had anticipated. Our visit was initially driven by the restaurant's buzz, but we concluded that the pricing/serving size may not warrant a return. Nevertheless, it's worth highlighting that the service was exceptional, with polite and attentive servers.

Diner Review №76

Food was salty. They need more servers.

Diner Review №77

Amazing flavor and presentation, their menu changes so you can try different things throughout the year

Diner Review №78

Prik Hom is getting great press and it's very well-deserved. They're booked through 2023 but if you can get in, just go. The menu is brief but everything we ordered was a winner. Definitely start with the shrimp appetizer. It's a refreshing bite and a great start. The stir fry cod is a standout but don't overlook the eggplant.

Diner Review №79

Congratulations Prik Hom for being listed under the New York Times' top 50 most exciting restaurants in the country! We loved our meal when we visited in March. Michelin-trained chef Jim Suwanpanya and his sister Tanya were so sweet and passionate about their craft. They made my father-in-law's birthday dinner extra special. So glad to see them get the recognition they deserve!!!

We tried the Almost Naked Shrimp Wrap, Tom Ka Chicken soup, Yum Son-In-Law Salad, and Squid with Salted Egg Sauce - all with a side of PURPLE Jasmine Rice. Everything was delicious and unique. The dessert - smoked young coconut ice cream - was a perfect end to an exquisite meal.

Diner Review №80

Simply incredible. Small friendly place cooking out of their heads. Had the scallops and lemongrass- incredibly tasty. The shrimp and chili jam was terrific. The cod and clam curry was something I’d never tasted and can’t wait to have again. You gotta try the coconut ice cream. I promise- it alone is worth it.

Diner Review №81

I normally don't go out to eat Thai food unless I'm in Thailand because it usually disappoints and I end up wishing I'd just cooked instead. Not at Prik Hom. The food here is phenomenal. Every dish we ordered was delicious and flavorful. I wish the fried chicken came with some kind of dipping sauce though, like maybe the chili jam? Even their playlist was good. It felt like they just turned on one of my chill playlists from Spotify. Service was attentive without being invasive or overbearing. Definitely coming back here and bringing friends.

Diner Review №82

Diner Review №83

Wish I took picture. This is the best Thai food I’ve had in SF. Actually better than the 3 times I’ve eaten at Nari. Red curry shrimp, mushroom soup, stone fruit salad were all a+

Diner Review №84

Fresh, vibrant take on Thai cuisine that departs from standard fare and delivers big on flavor. The branzino with passion fruit dressing, the scallop lemongrass appetizer, and the shrimp red curry were standouts.

Diner Review №85

The beef jerky and scallop starters were solid. The flavors are excellent and well balanced

The beef curry is spicy, tender meat and again solid flavors.

The branzino salad is light and the passion fruit makes it flavorful.

Alcoholic Drink selection is limited but the Thai iced tea felt more natural and worth having.

Diner Review №86

Fantastic food in an understated place

Diner Review №87

Best Thai food I've had by a Michelin trained chef.
Each dish was elegantly prepared with complex flavors and was beautifully balanced. The table's favorite was the shrimp red curry and smoked coconut ice cream. We were pleasantly surprised by each dish as they were bursting with flavor. The menu changes seasonally and I cannot wait to come back

Diner Review №88

Rarely have I been so conflicted about a review. Let’s start with the good: the chicken turmeric soup and beef and shrimp curries were all incredibly delicious. The beef curry and chicken soup in particular were so tasty that I was literally tempted to lick the bowls clean!

However, not everything that we tried was to the same standard, and there were some eccentricities that kept this restaurant from getting five stars in spite of the dishes we enjoyed. The scallops and lemongrass starter and eggplant with basil stir-fry were both good but not great, the service was a little on the slow prices, and the prices were higher and portions were smaller than what we expected based on what we’ve experienced at other restaurants like this.

Still, when this place is firing on all cylinders, very few other Thai restaurants even come close to this level of quality. Given that, it’s still recommended for anyone who can work around the quirks mentioned above!

Diner Review №89

It’s meh, the food doesn’t taste like authentic Thai food. All the stuff on the menu was not typical Thai food. I would say this place is more like Thai fusion. Portions are also VERY small for the price they were charging. I won’t be coming back.

Diner Review №93

Delicious food and relaxing ambience. Shout out to the aromatic curry and the coconut ice cream. The only negative point is that we felt a bit rushed towards the end of our dinner. Never mind, the food is so good that I can only recommend this place.

Diner Review №94

Wow. The food is amazing. No other words needed.

The menu was so imaginative but not gimmicky and everything was executed sooooo well. It's a must try.

Fantastic food, smaller portions and slightly more expensive than you might expect, but so so worth it.

Diner Review №102

So happy to see this spot filled again with another great Thai restaurant. Made a reservation through their Instagram DMs (super convenient when you're already looking at pictures of their amazing dishes!) for six adults and three toddlers. They offered to have a kids meal prepared, which I readily agreed to.

The restaurant itself got a nice fresh makeover from when it was Derm. The staff are very friendly and gave us the time and space to enjoy the meal before approaching to ask what we thought about the food (it's always awkward when people ask you while you're mid-chew haha).

We ordered:
Thai Style Beef Jerky
Almost Naked Shrimp
Hat Yai Fried Chicken
Yum Son-in-Law
Tom Ka Chicken (Soup) x2
Gor Lae (Halibut in curry)
Squid with Salted Egg Sauce
Crab Omelette
Kids Meal (Crab Fried Rice)
Ultimate Thai Iced Tea

The kids loved the fried rice and us adults who sneaked in a few bites did as well! My personal favorites were the Hat Yai, Almost Naked Shrimp, Gor Lae, Yum Son-in-Law and the Ultimate Thai Iced Tea.

Will definitely come back with friends and look forward to seeing what's on their menu for May!

Small note: no high chairs but they do have two booster seats. Luckily we live close by so we had our own booster brought in for the third kiddo in our group. 😅

We loved everything we ordered at this newly opened restaurant. They proudly present that their food does not contain MSG. However, the flavours are super complex. That is how authentic Thai food should be. The chef is professionally trained at Cordon Bleu, and had worked at the Michelin restaurant in Bangkok for many years. I'm so glad we have our favourite new Thai restaurant near where we live.
