Wow, the food is sooooo goooodddd!!!!

Diner Review №2

Terrible service, and the table was dirty. We were hoping for a good dinner after a long Sunday, but this place was disappointing. First, it took 10 minutes to take our order, even though it wasn’t busy. Second, the main dishes arrived with the appetizers, so the food got cold before we could even start. Third, we had to keep raising our hands for water because the waiter was too busy chatting and texting on their phone. Worst of all, the waiter had a bad attitude and made us feel like we were being annoying. Definitely won’t be coming back.

Diner Review №3

The food was phenomenal, and the staff and services were friendly and attentive. By far, it’s the best Thai restaurant we’ve tried in San Francisco.

—— **** Update: December 31, 2024. I’m not entirely sure if it was due to the overwhelming rush at New Year’s Eve, but we decided to revisit the restaurant. However, the waitress’s attitude was quite unfriendly, and she somehow managed to mess up all our orders. The food itself was disappointing; one of the dishes was excessively spicy. We are planning to return once more before giving up on the restaurant entirely. .

The photos here were from our first visit.

Diner Review №4

The red curry ramen didn’t disappoint. Cheers!

The general consensus on this place is that it’s so mid. But I just wanted a simple soup so I figured that it would be low risk.

Ordered soup w/ shrimp and brown rice. Somehow came to $30 but ok..

First attempt: they gave me the wrong soup, one I’m actually allergic to. No big deal, mistakes happen

Second attempt: I went back, clarified my order (with the prawns, please), and they confirmed it was the wrong soup. Got the right soup and left.

Third attempt: Halfway down the block, I check—no prawns. Back I go again to ask for the correct order.

I was met with SO MUCH ATTITUDE as if I had done something wrong. They literally made me open the soup and handed me a fork to “prove” that there actually wasn’t any shrimp. At this public shaming, I literally dug through this soup and there were a collective 2 shrimp. I asked if this was normal and they just rolled their eyes and went to the back.

So I basically ended up spending over 30+ minutes on a bowl of soup and feeling publicly shamed for their mistake.

Will never be back ✌🏽

Some of the best pork belly I’ve ever had

Diner Review №8

Diner Review №9

Cadre magnifique, calme, service rapide.
De très bons plats cuisinés.

Diner Review №10

It will be the last time I ever buy a meal unless they offer one for free. I bought the CRISPY pork belly with broccoli which turned out to be a tasty disaster. The point of crispy pork belly is that the skin is crispy, it was soft and not worthy for eating. The meal it self was not worth $22, more like $7. Thanks for your total failure Mangrove

Diner Review №11

Delicious!

Diner Review №16

BEST THAI food in san francisco. I was elated to have tasted and visited Mangrove Kitchen. Loved the food and their amazing ambience. We ordered chicken satay - which was very savoury and had a nice peanut flavored sauce, thai fried rice- was so good with a lot of chicken pieces, green and red curry- amazing, aloha fried rice- with the pineapple flavors mesmerizing your tongue. The star of the show was the tom yum soup- so tangy, so fresh, so yummy. 5 out of 5 stars.

Diner Review №18

We shared 3 dishes for under $30 ea. Including tax and tip. No drinks. Good options with varying levels of "heat". I get bad reflux and lean mild had no problem with any of the 3 we ordered marked with 1 pepper 🌶️ Pad Thai in coconut curry with chicken was my favorite. We also shared 1 with shrimp both were vegetarian with added protein options.
We will probably visit again soon.

Diner Review №19

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon with no wait time at 5:45 pm.

Good:
- Super nice staff
- The Aloha fried rice here was divine, it was amazing and super tasty
- The ramen here was really tasty, I liked it with the tom yum soup a lot
- The red curry with beef was also great, it had a nice sweet flavor and the rice it came with was good
- The gao chicken rice was good, though a little bland, the sauce that came with it made it a lot better
- Pretty and clean interior, good ambiance for catching up with friends

Bad:
- Prices are decently expensive and high
- Portion sizes are pretty small

Overall would come here again!

Tasted fresh. Great presentation

Looked forward to trying out a new restaurant.

Unfortunately it fell entirely flat. We ordered a chicken Pad Thai and a chicken Thai spicy fried noodle.

The chicken pad Thai was fine, nothing special to return again for but not bad.

The Thai spicy fried noodle was the most disappointing meal at a restaurant I’ve had in a long time. The dish was not spicy. The chicken was cooked to oblivion and the lack of any sauce made the dry unseasoned chicken barely edible.

The ambience was nice and the waitstaff was pleasant, but the food was terrible and I will not return.

Diner Review №24

*just a review about the thai tea* it had so much ice that my straw wouldnt initially even fit in the cup! barely any drink

Diner Review №25

This is such a cute restaurant in the city!! Definitely one of best Thai food spots I've been to in a while. The ambiance is visually beautiful and great for date nights or small gatherings. A little understaffed during busy dinner time, but we also came at the same time as many other tables.

Here's what I tried:

+ Panang Curry with Pork (5/5): SO GOOD! Great portions. If you love your curry with a strong coconut creaminess, this is THE DISH you need to try. Great flavor, not spicy at all - and the pork in this was amazing! Tender, flavorful, and sliced thinly. A must try!

+ Khao Mun Gai (2/5): Pretty disappointed by this one. The chicken thighs were SO DRY! Even with the sauce (which was great), the chicken was dry. Even the chicken rice was clumpy and not very flavorful either.

+ Aloha Fried Rice (5/5): No complaints here! A good balance between all the flavors. Pineapple wasn't too overpowering and the shrimp were huge! I liked the cashews and raisins surprisingly, and the presentation was very cute.

Diner Review №26

Delicious find! Lovely space with nice booth and open table seating. Cool decor. Nam Tok Tofu salad and veggie crispy rolls were perfect apps for our table; salad sauce was crazy delicious. I devoured my spicy crispy pork belly. The pumpkin curry and pad Thai were also favorites at our table. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in town again, great energy, food, and service. My app and entre was $37 and totally worth it.

I love to get takeout. The Ramen, curry, and Pad See Ew are all phenomenal. My favorite Thai spot in the city, and the service is excellent.

Diner Review №31

Works not good

Diner Review №32

The food is so tasty - the most delicious unique vegetarian ramen around. I recommend the jay ramen with yellow curry broth. The service is friendly and the atmosphere and decor are chilled. The drunken noodles are SO good.

Diner Review №33

atmosphere is great, food is great. I can't rate lower than 5 stars just off one dish since I've had so many incredible dishes here but the Khao Mun Gai is offensively terrible and as one of the more pricier and objectively simpler dishes too - buy any other dish and avoid paying $22 for 1 dollar's worth of plain white rice and $3's worth of flavorless chicken giblets (cheap/fatty/rubbery part of the chicken)

Diner Review №34

Some of the best glass noodles and ramen I’ve had in this city.

Diner Review №35

The food was excellent, the server was knowledgeable and friendly, the interior is well decorated. We were there for lunch and it wasn’t very busy due to the rainy weather.

Diner Review №36

Best one with the best food.

Diner Review №37

One of many casual-to-upscale Thai eateries in SF — with well-executed menu, cleverly designed interior, but relatively high prices.

$18 for Pad See Eiw: tasty, but worth it only if you prefer not trekking to the Tenderloin or Richmond for a taste comparable.

Diner Review №38

What’s the point of having ppl sign in your waitlist if you're not following the order of your waitlist?

Was there on a Friday evening and a South Asian lady arrived with her family 2 tables later than us, but because she kept arguing with the waiter he let her skip the queue. 100% wouldnt recommend this place for weekend evenings.

Diner Review №39

Great food, great atmosphere!

Diner Review №40

Diner Review №41

Brilliant Tom yum jay ramen

Diner Review №42

Tip: If you order by phone or walk-in then curries and saute veggies come with rice for free. But if you order online then rice doesn't come free with these things.

Diner Review №48

Diner Review №49

Great food. We only had curries so I can't speak to ramen, but the rice and curry, yellow with tofu, and panang with chicken, both very good. Chicken not just chopped chunks; cooked enough; lots of vegetables and sauce, quite a bit of food. Thai ice coffee and Thai ice tea were both good, in big tall tall glasses. Coke in a carafe glass, quite a lot. We've been twice, both servers were friendly, one super friendly, and it was relatively fast given there was a 12 person party there also. Nice décor with straw shapes from the ceiling. There are some bad reviews here but I think they are for long ago or maybe for the ramen or pad thai. Tofu spring rolls were fine, quite large, delicious sauce. Aug 2023.

Diner Review №50

Once you finally do get their attention to place an order their time to make something as simple as pad Thai and chicken wings was well over a half hour. They were empty at the time I ordered. Maybe more importantly these four little prawns were added to the pad Thai I ordered with Tiger Prawns. Obviously not tiger prawns, and certainly not worth the upcharge.

Stavo cercando un ristorante dove mangiare dei piatti leggeri e ricchi di verdure (appesantito dalla cucina americana troppo carica).
Abbiamo mangiato un piatto di tofu con verdure e un toast prosciutto e fichi.
Tutto molto buono.
Servizio gentile.

Diner Review №56

YUM! I took a friend from abroad who had never had Thai food to Mangrove Kitchen, and I made a convert thanks to the really delicious food. We had spring rolls, pumpkin curry, and pad see ew, which was the best I've ever tasted. The servers were great; one of them at the door seated us at a table that wasn't for our reservation, and immediately another came to offer us a nicer spot that he had reserved for us earlier over the phone. I am eager to try other dishes on their menu!

Diner Review №57

By far one of the best Thai restaurants, I have ever eaten at! The food was excellent and served promptly! The vegetarian crispy rolls were fantastic, as well as the Thai tea!! I will definitely be coming back!

Diner Review №58

Delicious food, perfect portions, friendly staff, and a super cool atmosphere. Absolutely worth the visit.

Diner Review №59

I just came back from Thailand. In my 2 years living there, I can say that this is genuine thai food.
Our server was the most kind and happy server ever. It was a joy chatting with her.
Took more food home than we ate there. Share a dish and enjoy.

Diner Review №64

Une excellente adresse de quartier, restaurant thaï très bon avec une équipe serviable et agréable. À tester absolument 🙂

Diner Review №65

Actually really yummy and good quantity for the pad see iew. Not too busy at 6pm on a weekday. Other dishes looked really good and I'd definitely be down to come back.
Interior aesthetic is really nice as well. Good service. Thanks!

Really good food and nice mood

Diner Review №67

- neua ramen [ramen noodles with 24 hrs slow cooked beef, spinach, carmel egg, shiitake mushroom, and tom yum soup base] ($22)

never have i ever been to a spot where the ramen's soup base was interchangeable with options like curry/tom yum. being someone who usually opts for tom yum as my soup base during hot pot had an automatic bias preference for tom yum here at mangrove kitchen! and wow they did not disappoint. the flavors of the soup and pairings with the ramen were fireeee - besides the fantastic food, the staff's service was also super incredible! the ambiance of mangrove kitchen is casually romantic and classy. it's the perfect spot for friends, family, and even dates!

the only downside in my opinion (just like for many spots in SF) would be the limited amount of street parking in the area - but besides so this spot is a space id highly recommend for yall to check out if yall are in the area because even though i only tried one dish - their whole entire menu seemed so delicious!!

Diner Review №68

Had their food a few times and enjoyed it. I ordered again recently and had an awful experience - flavors were good but the pork in my curry was absolutely abysmal, so tough to chew and funky taste.

Diner Review №69

The food was more on the sweet side than spicy for my taste, but overall good quality. The food presentation and the ambiance of the restaurant were awesome. They were able to honor my vegetarian preference by offering curries without fish sauce. Lastly, I would definitely recommend their mango sticky rice!

Diner Review №70

Excellent service, good food.

Diner Review №71

Diner Review №72

The chicken was dry and over cooked. Noodles were flavourless. Do yourself a favour and go to any of the 50 other neighbouring spots

Diner Review №73

Diner Review №74

great service, weird vibe, mediocre food, and high prices. 35 bucks a head incl. a beer and shared app, lol. the pad see ew had sen-me noodles, not sen-yai. the green curry was thin, neither spicy (heat + flavor) nor richly creamy. light on the proteins, too.

Diner Review №75

Diner Review №76

Very friendly and attentive staff. Very good food.

Diner Review №77

Lovely spot for some great Thai food. Lots of healthy options - beware, their spicy is actually spicy! We loved their recommendations, the curry and curry ramen was absolutely amazing.

Diner Review №78

Very good Thai food with a relaxed ambiance! Good place to come for a casual dine in or a date night! Red curry was on point.

Diner Review №79

This place is heaven. Don’t listen to the negative reviews. Delicious curries, noodles & veggies; everything is insanely flavorful & yummy. Eating in the restaurant—rather than taking to food to go—is a must. Highly recommend!

Diner Review №80

Diner Review №81

Diner Review №82

Meh

Diner Review №83

I really wanted to give this place a chance despite all the other reviews. I decided to get the duck since no one else complained about it. Turns out it was terribly tough and if I hadn’t been on a first date I would have sent that back immediately, which is not in my nature. Couldn’t even finish it. It was the chefs pic so I thought it would be a safe choice. Apparently it’s chefs pic because they just grab pieces out of a scorching 6 pan and throw it on a plate with some sauce and broccoli stems and call it a day for $30. 2 stars because service wasn’t terrible.

Diner Review №84

Diner Review №85

10$ Tom Yum + $2.50 rice is generous!

Diner Review №86

Diner Review №87

Diner Review №88

Great food, large portions, nice presentation

Diner Review №89

Pad Thai and a soup to go should not cost $40.

Diner Review №90

Good service, solid food.

Diner Review №91

Food was decent, atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Drinks were good, but the desert was the best part.

Diner Review №92

Food was awfully sweet. We got the pad see eiw was sweeter than a birthday cake, the ramen was a little less sweet but the “24 hour slow cooked beef” was stone-hard! How can this be 24 hr slow cooked!

Diner Review №93

Worst food i have had in san francisco so far. I have been to Thailand, have had Thai food thousand times and have never had a food this bad. The drunken noodle tasted like a pastry, the beef was chewy, the ramen(!?) Had big chunks of chewy cheap beef in it. I have never experienced anything like this before. Don’t understand how it could have 4.2 avg stars…maybe paid reviews? Who knows.

Diner Review №94

The chicken ramen with red curry broth was fantastic!

Diner Review №95

Had the mango curry and it was amazing! Also had the lobster ramen. The lobster itself was fine but the rest of the ramen bowl wasn’t that great considering the price.

Diner Review №96

Diner Review №97

Love the local favorite Thai spot. Been here >10 times and still love it Totally

Diner Review №98

Overpriced for what it is.

Diner Review №99

Portion sizes have gone down in the last year or so.

Diner Review №100

Great spot for some lunch!

Diner Review №101

The pumpkin curry was delicious and the portions were more than sufficient.

Diner Review №102

Of the several Thai restaurants we've eaten at in SF, this is our favorite. In ~2019, they changed their name and renovated the restaurant, and now with the excellent food, the ambiance is also phenomenal. Highly recommended!

Diner Review №103

Good food and decent service

Diner Review №104

Diner Review №105

I ordered the red curry on Uber Eats and it was DELICIOUS

Diner Review №111

all three of us had diarrhea soon after eating at this place. horrible experience.

Diner Review №112

Excellent food

Diner Review №113

Everything has a sweet flavor including the Kai Ramen and Green Curry. Not my favorite flavor profile. Also, hot water was $1.50.

Diner Review №114

Pad See Eiw was very good! One of the best I’ve had. However the waitress was rude! We showed up at 5:30PM at an empty restaurant and asked if we could sit down and eat, she very rudely turned us away because we ordered takeout. Working at the service industry requires politeness which she had none! I understand the restaurants rules but they should be communicated in a nicer manner, it ruined my experience and won’t be coming back :(

Diner Review №120

Diner Review №121

So good!!!!
Not your basic run of the mill Thai food. Got a ramen with red curry and the pumpkin dish with vegetables and egg, both dishes were delicious.

Diner Review №122

Great Thai food!!

Diner Review №123

Pretty tasty with good service and no wait. In fact, the two of us got a whole booth to ourselves. Bathroom was passable.

Diner Review №124

Felt pricey for what it was and none of the flavors really popped at me like I expected. Got panang curry

Diner Review №125

I’m not a Ramen girl, but their yellow curry ramen killed me (in a good way) :0 it was unreal, I finished the whole thing. The spice hit so well and if I’m ever craving ramen I think I found my favorite spot

Diner Review №126

I really want to like and support this place, but they make it kind of tough. We recently were given someone else's order and when we called to try to fix it they acted annoyed and didn't offer to try to get us our order sooner - still quoted us the standard wait time and said they wouldn't prioritize fixing it. Didn't say sorry or act kindly or anything and then we had to do the walk again to go get it. Not a good neighborhood feeling here.

Diner Review №127

Diner Review №128

Ok food (would give 3 stars) and very average service. The dishes miss authentic Thai ingredients.
The waitress tried to charge $1.5 for warm water, we settled it with manager and she still put it on the bill. Not a big deal money wise, but it’s the attitude.

Diner Review №129

Diner Review №130

Awesome food!

Diner Review №131

Sooooo delicious the beef short rib curry Ramen was amazing. The beef was so delicious and tender. I got it twice in one day once alone for lunch and again with my daughter for dinner (her request) I did not fight her. I cannot wait to visit SF again to go here again

Diner Review №132

Ordered the soft shell crab ramen and it was quite delicious with a lovely deep friend soft shell crab with the delicious tomalley still intact. It’s a nice fusion of Thai flavors inside a traditional Japanese dish. Did wish it was spicier though, the server made it seem like it was Thai spicy levels but it was pretty mild. Service was quick and friendly.

Worst pineapple Fried rice I've ever eaten. Trust me I'm only eating it because I'm starving right now. Food presentation is 100% but tasteless. Idk what the rest of foods. I've had their PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE only

Diner Review №136

Omg so yummy! Ramen with a curry base 🤤. Get the Moo Ramen with Res Curry Base! So good

Also the Spicy Crispy Bork Belly was great! I’ve been here several times and it’s always great!

Diner Review №137

So delicious! They were out of the ramen I wanted but put together a “similar” ramen. It had some crunchy ramen on top, beef, and red curry. Divine! Got Pad See Eiw to go, which was great too, but Ramen was the star. Can’t wait to return and try more.

Diner Review №147

Incredible food!! You must get a curry ramen. I was skeptical at first, but it’s delicious. I got the soft shell crab ramen with yellow curry. The caramel soft boiled egg in it was one of the best eggs in ramen I’ve had. Also the noodles were chewy and high quality.

Pork belly is also very good, though my bf wish it had a bit more pork belly haha. Pineapple fried rice had a spectacular presentation and was very flavorful.

They unfortunately didn’t have cocktails the night we went, but they look delicious on the menu so we can’t wait to try them when we get back. The cab red wine is actually very good, would recommend a glass.

Diner Review №148

The food was delicious! I had pumpkin curry and my girlfriend had the Aloha Fried Rice. Each dish was packed with flavor and it was a great space to dine in. Also had the 312 Divisadero cocktail, LOVED IT. Will definitely come back, and recommend to friends.

Diner Review №149

Order ramen with soft shell crab and red curry broth and ask for extra spicy.

In a world where 5 stars means my eyes light upon the first taste, 4 stars means I was sad when my dish is over, and 3 stars means I enjoyed it, my meal earned 3 stars.

It was tasty, the place was cheap / chill, the service was speedy / good.

The thai ramen was interesting, but ultimately not very ramen-like. Which is to be expected given it's a curry based soup.

I got the pork belly ramen with red curry soup and it was a little too on the sweet side for me. Very generous pork belly portions.

All in all very 3/5.

Diner Review №156

Diner Review №162

Very poor taste of the Pad Thai chicken, was impossible to eat..

Diner Review №163

The ramen was really tasty and good, however my gf has a bad gluten allergy and they would not let her eat her food she had gotten at another restaurant and told her they offer gluten free items. She ordered a rice dish with real crab they said but not 10 later she had a really bad reaction. Would not recommend for people with celiac.

I love this place! Great atmosphere, great service, and great food and drinks. The prices are excellent too; they match the quality of the dishes and don't make you feel like you are being gouged.

Favorite Dessert: is definitely the Mango Sticky Rice!

Favorite Dish: I can't choose. I have loved all the dishes I have eaten. Pumpkin curry, mango curry, all the ramen flavors, the spring rolls and crispy spring rolls. I have yet to be disappointed by any dish.

I 100% recommend this restaurant for Thai cuisine. You will walk away full!
