Intimate eatery featuring sushi rolls, curries & classic Thai favorites in a cozy setting.
Small restaurant downtown SD within walking distance where we staying. Great little find as it was super reasonable pricing for the location. The owner was super sweet and friendly; she been running this restaurant for a quarter of century. We got the Tom Ka soup, Pad See Eww, Pad Thai and Sesame Chicken. All delicious, freshly made and come out in a timely manner. I thought it was so well price and delicious; we came back the next day for the lunch as to go order. I would recommend and will come back. Parking can be a challenge since it’s downtown.
This joint is the real deal! Authentic and delicious Thai food made fresh to order. You can tell because it comes piping hot. Family run spot. The lady at the counter is sweet. I may have had the best drunken noodle (pad kee mao) here. It was soo good and satisfying. Food is very reasonably priced as well.
The best drunken noodles I’ve had. The restaurant is very quaint and clean, and the duo working is very welcoming and sweet. Prices are extremely reasonable for the portion size. I walked a mile there and back from my hotel near the harbor 2 days in a row to enjoy their food. Give this place a try if you're looking for delicious authentic Thai!
Wow! We did a quick search on google and decided on Thai. It was a bonus to have a little sushi appetizer first. All of our meals were amazing. The lady working turned out to be the owner and had many hints and tips for our meal. Fantastic experience overall.
LOVE THIS PLACE. i live downtown and this is my go-to takeout place for thai curry, pad thai, and drunken noodles!! family-owned, sweet and attentive owners, and bomb foods. i always recommend here for authentic thai food.
We walked 30 mins to discover it was closed by a handmade piece of paper.
The sweet and sour sauce isn’t that good but everything else is great. Affordable prices for DT. Very limited parking. Call in your order and pick up! :) small area to dine in too
They were supposed to open at 5 pm. I waited out front until 5:15 pm, and they still didn't open yet

Worst service ever! We arrived to the place and the owner told us that was going to take 30 min because they had a big order, then, she said she asked the cook and he cannot take anymore orders.

Amazing flavors and great service
Horrible. Hours are wrong online, nothing indicates sushi menu doesn't start until 1pm. Don't even bother trying to come here.
The best Thai food in downtown San Diego. The people that work there are so lovely and nice. The place itself is so cozy. Also they have a spice level of 1-10, making it so accommodating. The Thai Iced Tea is also phenomenal, especially on hot days.
I never left a review before.
I frequent this place, this is the best Thai food in downtown San Diego. Very friendly and nice workers. I love it so much!
Terrible service! I never leave reviews for restaurants but this is an exception. The lady at the register as many have said here is extremely rude. I tried getting food there two Wednesdays in a row and they make it impossible to get some sushi. The first time I tried to order she looked at me like why didn’t I know that they didn’t have fish yet and that they didn’t serve sushi till after 1 pm, how am I supposed to know that? Then I tried the following week even called ahead and when I get there she rudely says it’s not ready yet and when it finally is and I try to pay she just goes, “I don’t take tap” because I wanted to pay with Apple Pay. How in 2024 and in downtown San Diego you don’t take tap. So she tells me to just look for another credit card so don’t get my food again. It is safe to say I’m never going back and I’m telling everyone around me to avoid that place at all cost. Very disappointing.
Super friendly service. Delicious pad thai. Nice quaint atmosphere.

The owner of this restaurant is extremely rude and nasty. Will never eat here again disgusting person.
Great family run business. Been coming here a long time still probably the best value lunch specials in the downtown area.
Super delicious food here! I recommend the Thai tea with pad Thai :)
Excellent food at a very reasonable cost. Sushi is as good as you'll find and the sesame chicken over delivers. Highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious and amazing place.
The services was horrible.
Food was good, During lunch special price was great for food quality and quantity.
This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in the USA. The photos is what was left of my pad see ew after eating my fill. Portions are enormous for very reasonable prices. Friendly small intimate with incredible food. I got Pad Thia to go a different night and I swear the portion was even bigger. I eat for 3 meals.
I recently discovered this Thai restaurant, and it's truly a hidden gem! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The food was absolutely amazing, bursting with authentic flavors that transported me to Thailand with every bite. The service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. I highly recommend this place to anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine and a delightful dining experience. Can't wait to return!
The food is way too good for the price they charge...and the service is fantastic. Lita, the owner who will greet you at the entrance is a treasure. Lunch special prices are unmatched in this part of town.
Best thai Ive personally have had in Downtown
Love this place! The yellow curry is amazing.
My wife and I were in town for a conference, it was a little further from our hotel, but it got decent reviews so we thought we would try it. Man did it not disappoint! Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and the service was amazing! The food was much more affordable than it has right to be. I will be going back the next time I’m in town!
Terrific service and outstanding food. Fried rice was especially good; a unique blend of spices. Fried gyoza was crispy with a sweet and spicy sauce. Highly recommend!
Authentic Thai food. Nice portions, great flavour, quality ingredients annnddd customizable level of hot spices for us with sensitive palate. The owners are super friendly. Lots of vegetarian options too! Will go back for sure with more time and more friends.
Best Thai food I’ve had in San Diego! The spicy level accuracy is also very impressive
A few months ago, I wanted to try this place out. It says they don’t close until 9pm, but I got there at 8pm on a Saturday and they were already closed. Left disappointed. Please keep the correct hours.
I couldn’t find the door
Great food, great staff. Everything was delicious perfect amount of spice. Great prices as well! Definitely recommend
Great, Great food and service
Friendly staff
I highly recommend
Amazing spot for a delicious and affordable lunch. The owner had the place closed down for a catering even but still offered to make us food. She was super sweet and caring. 10/10 will return.
Had previously been to Thailand, this food reminded me much of it. Delicious! This family own restaurant is at the top of my list of restaurants I’d come back to. Amazing atmosphere and very very kind owners.
It was so tasty
Amazing food & very nice staff!
Thai Island is a very authentic Thai restaurant in downtown San Diego. They have amazing Panang Curry and great service!
We've tried to go three times in the past week during listed hours and they haven't been open.
Very good good the service is great.
Disappointed in the food after seeing the good reviews. Green Curry and Fried rice had pretty good flavor but the Tom Yum wasn’t good at all. Basil Chicken was somewhere in between. Overall I’d say it was a mediocre meal and mediocre service so we won’t go back.
Great price and food. I got the yum soup and that was delicious!
I ordered the Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai to go and it was very quick! The food was really good! I got a level 5 spice on a scale of 1-10 and it was the right amount of spice. Overall, I would definitely come back.
I ordered the hot basil with chicken, basil, broccoli, and mushroom. And I also ordered the drunken noodles without onions. The hot basil dish was excellent and came with rice. I’m from the east coast and it’s rare to find that authentic Thai spice taste out here, so I was thoroughly impressed. The drunken noodles were a little salty for my taste but overall food was excellent. Great if you’re a local or tourist. I sat outside where they have a small dining area. There is also indoor seating. Service was great as they brought my dishes out just how I like. Staff were also helpful and friendly. I was told this place had been there for over 20 years!
Visiting San Diego and was craving Thai food. Elated to have found this gem - it’s a must try!! The food was incredibly flavorful and delicious and the owner was so lovely! We got the spring rolls, gyoza, house fried rice, and yellow curry. Happy with everything we ordered and would definitely recommend the house fried rice - it was perfectly spiced. The curry was done really well too! Really enjoyed eating here and talking with the owner. Highly recommend and definitely want to try and go back before we leave!
DE. LI. CIOUS. and cheap. Tried the Chicken Pad Thai and the Pork Pad See Eew, both very tasty, loved the pork it’s tenderloin!
Had the chicken pad thai and chicken pad see eew. Both were delicious
Short version: Best thai food I've ever had. Try the garlic shrimp if you like either of those things spicy fried rice is bomb and Yakitori is the freshest flavor you'll ever experience.
Long version: I have had Thai food from small family run restraints like this from upstate NewYork to Newport, Rhode Island to Charleston, SC and most recently Texas. All have been great this is hands down the best Thai food I have had in my life! Without a doubt if your in San Diego for a day or a decade you are doing yourself a disservice by not trying this food. Don't ask just go, then order the first thing on the menu or your all time favorite and I promise you, you'll have found a new favorite Thai restaurant.
UPDATE: food is better than ever still coming back 3 years later anytime I visit San Diego.
Not kidding when i say that it’s the best thai food I’ve had so far.
amazing time and great food. great location by theater
Stopped by to grab take-out for lunch and ended up dining in. Wonderful atmosphere and the staff is incredibly welcoming. The food was fresh and delicious and they make sure to tailor each dish to your specific likings. We had the shrimp pad thai, teriyaki chicken and a sushi roll. The servings were more than enough.
Absolutely recommend!
The sushi and Pad Thai were a 5star
The Tom Kha soup a 3 or less. Hence I rated a 4. Service was good too. I'd definitely return for the Dragon roll.
Great Thai Food, good portions, excellent service.
Great Food, good price and excellent service.
Prices are beyond reasonable, food is wonderful! The owner is the sweetest lady who ensured we had a good dining experience. Highly recommend
Amazing food and unmatched service. Our group loved it so much we went back the next night before flying home! Best drunken noodles I have ever had.
Went to multiple Thai restaurants in San Diego and this is far and away the best! Food came out fast and hot. Sushi was fresh and full of real crab meat. The pad Thai and pad see ew we’re fantastic. The price is unmatched and the flavor is even better. Highly recommend for anyone who wants great Thai in San Diego
Outstanding food and super friendly owners. Ordered the Pad Thai and Penang curry. Both were outstanding, lots of meat and flavor. Both dishes were perfectly spiced as I had asked for them. I will definitely be back when I am in town again.
Best thai food I have ever eaten.
Found on the way while we were wondering what to eat.
Definitively a good place ! The family is really kind and helpfull and the dishes are really good for cheap prices.
Recommanded +++
Great food with a great service. The Pad Thai was good and pad see yaw was really good. The restaurant is not big and seems that it mostly caters to carry-out crowd. We conversed with the owner a bit, whose business was impacted by Covid and homelessness. It’s tough, and both issues are mostly out of their control. They are trying their best and with a great food and service, I am sure they will get support from locals and tourists alike.
During my travels to San Diego we were just wandering around and came across this cute Thai place. The staff was so kind to us. It’s a family owned restaurant which made it all the better. They allow you to choose your spice level and will even help you pick a meal if you aren’t sure what to get. I highly recommend stopping here to eat if you are in downtown San Diego! A bonus is that the sushi was very reasonably priced and so was all the other delicious food.
Delicious food at an affordable price point. Very friendly service!
Its very good for asty Thai food.n hostess is too good n makes you feel very comfortable with her talks with food.
Small restaurant with a nice warm atmosphere. Food was great, owner couple are very sweet and top service
really delicious food! and super friendly and quick service!
I have been going here for three years now - always wonderful. Reasonable prices, kind people, and delicious food. Consistently great every single visit. I love this place.
Love getting pickup from here!
First time dining here and had a wonderful experience. Servers immediately greeted me as I entered and ushered me to a table without delay. Staff were extremely prompt and friendly with their service.
I ordered the chicken Pad Thai which was served piping hot and garnished with green onion, bean sprouts and peanuts. I also ordered a glass of red wine which to my delight was a very generous pour.
The dining area is tastefully decorated, moderate in size and offers a suitable dining experience for couples or small dinner parties.
Phenomenal Thai spot with excellent food and friendly staff. The owner is a sweetheart and I will definitely be returning. Go support your local restaurants!
Great curry, generous portion, low price, and awesome service. Thank you!
Seriously some of the best food I had while in San Diego. I had curry and the spice level is perfect on everything, the sushi was amazing and the service was incredible. Everything was fresh and I wish we could go back sooner rather than later! Support local small businesses and this one specifically!
Smells great, wish I could try, but every time I’ve been in their card reader is broken and they’re only taking cash, or they are only taking card. Someday hopefully I’ll be able to order AND pay for my food
Love this place. Great food.
Incredible food and great service. I had the green curry and it was very flavorful! I will definitely be back.
Easy to order, the food is decent, and the $ is quite reasonable. Unless we got lucky, the portions were huge.
Best sushi in downtown hands down!!! The price, quality, and amazing customer service is unmatched. We love to pickup a bunch of rolls and gyoza to go every Friday
Excellent panang curry with pork. The salmon avo roll was also delicious. Nice staff. We only had to drive around once to find street parking. There is dine in available on patio.
Friendly service and delicious food. What else ye be askin fer matey?
I've been coming here for 7 years now and they have the best Thai food, the best staff and a cozy and warm environment. I love everything about this place!!! They staff is the best... they make you feel at home and treat you like family. This is the only Thai restaurant I'll go to.
This was truly delicious
Great food and amazing service. This restaurant has been in the area for decades and continue to provide great food to the area.
Love it here feel like family.
Great food and great customer service. I always fell like i am family here.
We love these peeps and their food is excellent.
Super friendly service and love their food.
Delicious food and the service was excellent! Very enjoyable experience
Super great Curry and had the salmon avocado roll, also super good. Great service, super nice people.
Amazing sushi and fresh rolls.
Great place, delicious food, excellent service. We loved it!
Best Thai food in this area!! Excellent service and price
This hidden gem thai spot is delicious and the drunken noodle is amazing!
The best Thai food in San Diego.
Great, yummy.
Excellent food. Large variety. Family run business. Very kind and nice people. They have take out as well. They close at 9 pm, not at 10 as this site says. If you like Thai, this small place deserves your visit
The best part of this place is the fantastic service! The beautiful little lady that served us was so sweet and helpful! She gave us suggestions about what to try and explained cultural things to us. It's very small, but definitely worth the trip! The food is delicious and very well priced! The husband says its even "incredibly" delicious!
Nice place to have Thai food
Great food. Kind staff :)
Very nice and helpful staff, great price and very good food! Lunch portion was perfect for us.
Very good food and excellent service.
Lovely Thai restaurant!!! Delicious
Delicious food. Happened to go on a whim, but well worth it. Far from my house, but I will make the drive again because the food was so good.
Prompt and polite service after arriving late evening in Christmas Eve. If I were local, I'd definitely go back.
Not the best thia food I've ever had, but good. The restaurant is kind of cramped if you are going with more than 4 people in your party. The yellow curry is delicious, but they make you pay extra for rice.
Best Thai food I've ever had. Drunken noodles were delicious. Wish I lived here so I could eat here all the time.
I give fivestar for what I ate. Truly Asian style fried rice.
I love this place amazing food, customer service and cozy seating
Love the yaki soba and the sushi
Found this cozy spot while looking for a place to have dinner before the show at Copley Hall. We are always down for Thai food, and it was an added bonus that they serve sushi too. The food was absolutely delicious! So happy to have found this spot and will definitely be back!
Closes whenever they feel like it.
Fantastic sushi and curry! More than anything, fantastic people running the place. We were the only ones there eating late on a Monday and got a chance to chat with the wife in the married duo behind Thai Island. Their love for the spot and their passion for supporting their son in med school struck a chord with our hearts, I'm glad we were able to support them and have a fantastic meal at the same time!
Ok so wow this place was unexpected! I wanted to try a new spot and came here the moment I walked in the server greeted me very warmly and was extremely accommodating. The food was so cheap about 8 or 9 bucks for a dish. I am very particular about my Pad Thai and this was by far on the top five list I almost thought to order a second round sooooo good!!
The food was pretty good, serving sizes are reasonable and filled me up. My biggest complaint was that when I went the inside was super hot and stuffy. Definitely not comfortable. They had ceiling fans running but I'm not sure why they wouldn't turn the AC on, unless they just didn't have one. It wasn't even hot outside, so when I left and went outside it felt way cooler.
Great food
Good food. Good service.
Excellent food I had spicy fried rice and green curry
Took 10 minutes to get a menu. Drink was not refilled for another 10 minutes on a humid day. Food was overly spicy despite asking for non spicy. All the tables are ridiculously close to each other so you hear every word of random peoples conversations. I was literally shoulder to shoulder next to a random table. Either expand the place or take some tables out. Stuffed like sardines in August!
Finally, its 90+ degrees outside and no freaking A/C! Can't stand cheap places like this that sacrifice customers comfort for few extra dollars savings. You're charging $15-20 for few pieces of raw fish and rice. Step it up!
Food is good.
Great curry
Great prices and amazing food. The customization of how spicy you want your food was something that I hadn't seen before.
My wife and I discovered Thai Island on our last night of visiting San Diego. We arrived near closing and only one customer was dining at an outside table so we were a little unsure about going in. We are happy we did go in. The owners stayed open late for us to order and did not rush us to finish our meal. The food was outstanding with good portions. A must try is their Thai Iced Tea. It is delicious. If visiting the area again, I would definately go back to Thai Island.
Best Green Curry I’ve had in America since I got back from Thailand (spent 4 months there).
Really nice owner and certainly one of the best Tai food that I have had.
Fantastic.
Great prices for very solid food
