“Bahn” meaning home, is the feeling we want all of our customers to have when they come to our family owned and operated restaurant. We are a Thai restaurant that offers takeout and catering . Serving fresh and flavorful authentic Thai dishes.
Always the most delicious food served to us here. We tend to order the following every time we visit: Tom Kah soup with chicken, crab rangoon and either pineapple fried rice, basil friend rice or one of the specials that they advertise on their chalk board. We have never had a bad dish. The soup is amazing! Order it, you won’t be disappointed.
Bahn Thai was closing in 8 minutes. I called in an order. I live 6 minutes away. I would have made it in time had I ordered from the right location. The owner was going to go to the other location to pick up the meal to bring it to me. And on top of this, the other restaurant stayed open until I arrived, 3 minutes past closing. If for nothing else...5 🌟
My first time here. The chili sauce is so good I bought a jar and couldn't wait to try it on pizza. And it is freakin' tongue tantalizing. Also a hit on avocado toast.
Yes, I did actually purchase two dishes- vegan Pad Thai with tofu and drunken noodles with beef. The drunken noodles were tasty but sober (dry). I've had more inebriated noodles. The beef was tender enough and I have braces.
The Pad Thai was perfectly prepared and seasoned. The tofu was crisp on the outside with seasoning and soft on the inside. Each dish could comfortably feed 2.25 people.
There are other dishes, flavors and spices created here that may be uncommon or not existent in other Thai eateries but highly recommended. Fifth Avenue location is stunningly inviting and open.
Parking is street metered and free 8 pm or later. Yes, 8 not 6 pm. Four spots in front of the restaurant (2 handicapped) (2 pick up orders).
I would suggest this place to tourists and locals
Bahn Thai is good Thai food and there's really no other way to say it. Each entree is well made, piping hot when served, and the seating is spaciand ample. Be aware that if you order the fire cracker chicken it is VERY hot. A different spice level is used. There is a front patio and somewhat hidden back patio you may discover on the way to the restroom.
First time here, and we would go again!
The service was quick even though they were fairly busy. Prices are average for Thai food in this area.
The food itself was good, I had drunken noodles (in photo) and my wife had Pad Thai. Hers was much better than mine.
What I really liked, and this is more uncommon, was how spicy they made it for me! I like my spicy foods to taste like pain and they really came though! I've had many other restaurants around that were underwhelming in spicy, no matter how much I requested it.
Another thing is I wish they served you on plates. All they have is plastic to-go containers. Seems wasteful and at this price point (for dining in) a bit under par.
Overall the flavor of my drunken noodles was a bit bland and I wouldn't order it again but the pad Thai was delicious and we enjoyed the environment of the restaurant and will return!
Simply authentic and delicious.
If you’re looking for one of the best Thai restaurants in San Diego, this place is it. The noodles are cooked to perfection, and there’s a good balance of sweet, salt, spice and acid. The proteins were tender and were melting in my mouth, it’s that good.
It may not look like the portions are big, but trust me, one plate will get you so full. The spice level is also just right. I got a level 2 spice and the dishes were still enjoyable.
I also love the outdoor patio and interior decor. It’s inviting, refreshing and just a great place to hang out, eat and take a break from the sweltering heat.
If you want a great reminder of the beauty of Thai cuisine, this place is it. You won’t regret it.
A friend of mine calls this her favorite Thai spot in all of San Diego. It's taking me a few years but I finally tried it one afternoon on my way through North Park. It did not disappoint and let me just say I'm sad for all the time I've wasted not eating their food 🤣
The North Park location currently has outdoor dining & to go, with no inside seating and no bathrooms.
I ordered the chicken satay with a side of steamed veggies, the Tom Ka soup (a hidden gem), and a vegan (yay!!) Thai tea. Phenomenal. They were able to accommodate us in regard to dietary restrictions too. We called ahead to ask about food allergies and cross contact and they took extra caution in preparing the entrees that we ordered without any issues. They were also familiar enough with their menu items to know which items had the allergens we were trying to avoid and offer suggestions of what would work. We appreciate that they are allergy friendly & willing to work with you!!
I'm already planning my next visit!!
This location is much better than the other one at Park Blvd in terms of good amount of seating. This place is unbeatable when it comes to Thai food in SD. We had panang curry and pad Thai both with tofu and they were lip smacking. Rich in taste and decent quantity. One thing I do not like is they serve in plastic to go boxes also for dine in. I understand they could have potentially started for COVID reasons, but definitely it isn’t an ecofriendly option. For food, 10/10 for both locations. Highly recommend.
Visiting from Belgium.
Outdoor seating in the front and the back. They give it to you as takeaway but you can eat there just not inside.
Friendly staff and the place is quite busy.
It’s not the best Thai I’ve had but it’s good. My biggest complaint is the amount of lettuce and cabbage they put in our dishes. We both ordered our own laab and papaya salad spicy level. Should’ve got the laab spicier but the papaya salad spice level was perfect.
The Panang Curry is incredible especially with shrimp.
Quickly became a staple for my partner and I. The food is great!
Please reopen in Hillcrest soon. I’ve tried 2 other Thai places and they suck. We love you Bahn Thai! Only thing, please switch to compostable containers. Too much plastic!
Best Thai food outside of Thailand 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Muy amables excelente sabor 🤌🏼🤌🏼 y el lugar esta agradable para comer ahí mismo.
Super good food. Everything is also available as a vegetarian option. Highly recommend if you like Thai food! 👍
No so Thai, but the food is still delicious.
Great Thai food at good prices. The mango coconut sticky rice was amazing.
Fried rice and curry are amazing!
Very good and tasty Thai food.
Nice service 👌
Let me tell ya. Best Thai food in SD & it’s not even close. Get the Masaman curry, spring rolls, & crab rangoon 🔥🔥🔥!
Very delicious restaurant with friendly excelent service!
Delicious food and excellent friendly service.
Panang curry was excellent! Great staff and atmosphere.
Best in town!
Believe the reviews! So good and great value. Very busy when I came for takeout within an hour to closing and over 10 people also came to pickup everyone was back out the door in less than 10 minutes. Highlights for us was the yellow curry, pad see ew, and mango rice. This is our new favorite Thai spot in SD.
Not my cup of tea. Food was ok. I started laughing when I saw my food served in the cheap plastic Tupperware. I asked an employee if she could bring me a cup of water and she said I can go get it myself. This is place is strange. I was embarrassed taking my friend there. 4.7 reviews I don't think so.
Insane wait time. The food is not worth it.
Some of my favorite Thai in San Diego
First time here, and we would go again!

Hands down the best Thai food in all of San Diego. I usually get the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, or Drunken Noodles. The Thai tea here is great too.
Parking is difficult so you might have to park find street parking. There are a few parking spots in front for a quick pickup.
For takeout, it's probably best to order online ahead because sometimes on a busy night, you can wait 30-60 minutes for your food.
Probably the best Thai food in San Diego.
They started with 2 tables on Park Avenue and now have expanded to the old 'Davids' coffeehouse location. Simple elegance and the Currys are great and tasty! Reasonable price.
Great no frills Thai food, the chow fun is fantastic. It is take out only although there are some seats outdoors you can eat at.
Exceptional Thai food!
So many excellent choices can't wait to go back. A word of caution medium is very hot 🔥
Parking, like everywhere in Hillcrest, is terrible
The food is good, it's my favorite Thai food place. The spice levels are a little wonky, I always order mild, and sometimes I get higher spice than the time before.
Parking is complicated at peak hours but was well worth the effort. A simple ordering experience and a beautiful setting to enjoy some wonderful food. Everyone was happy with their plates. The duck and the yellow curries were popular as was the firecracker chicken.
Honestly the food is not that much better than your standard local thai spot. But what makes the experience bad is everything is to go and if you dine there outside you get treated like peasants with janky plastic plates etc.
Drunken noodles 7/10 medium is not spicy. Nothing special.
Pad thai: 8/10 i actually liked this which i usually dont.
Panang curry: 7/10 nothing special
Larb: 8/10 i liked it others did not.
Spring rolls 7/10 nothing special
Mango rice: 5/10 mango was not ripe or cold. You need that mixture of warm rice and cold mango.
Atmosphere: 2/10 it has potential, but dine in is awful given you get worst dining utensils than a tailgate party.
Delicious food but even if you eat there, they serve you with a bunch of plastic ustensiles, cups, boxes and bags. In an era where we facing all possible ecological challenges how can thet explain they can't make the slightest effort towards less plastic waste. It's a shame
Excellent food!
Good but the spicy level depends on who’s working that day. I have been absolutely humbled by some spice here then the next time nothing. Still good.
Love this place! Pad Thai noodles are delicious & so is the Basil Eggplant 🍆
Super clean place all around 👍
Food is fresh and tastes great 👍
Staff are really nice and friendly 👍
Worth visiting snd revisiting again & again.
I took one star in service because they serve you the food in plastic containers 👎 as if you are taking it to go.
NOT environmental friendly 🌱
we got the firecracker chicken and Bai Grapow (with ground chicken), glad we went with medium because that was on the spicy side for us despite being pretty good with spicy. we really liked both
This is our absolute favorite Thai food in San Diego. I have yet to have a bad meal here. I will say though, their pad Thai is not the best thing in the menu but every time I try something new, I’m not disappointed.
Great food. Nice people. Will return gladly.
Very delicious the best curry I have had by far, The wings are a go to as an appetizer 👌 definitely recommend!!
Ordered takeout, so cannot comment on the dining in experience. Ordering online was easy to complete and make modifications. Food was ready at time of pick up. Found parking on the street across from the restaurant. Staff was friendly and efficient in bringing out the food.
Food was fantastic. Both of us had Chicken Pad Thai (Spice levels 2 and 3) and Mango Sticky Rice. The Pad Thai was excellent, the spice levels were on point. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients and the noodles and sauce were delicious. The mango sticky rice was wonderful for dessert, fresh mango over rice at just the right level of sweetness.
Looking forward to coming back and trying some other dishes.
Delicious, fresh, reasonably priced Thai
FAV spot for Thai food! portions are good, my go-to is the Panang curry and Bai Grapow!!! chicken skewers appetizer! & you can't forget the coconut milk Thai tea -so yummy
my ALL time FAVORITE!!! from curries to stir fry -everything is good here. as long as its not extremely spicy, I usually get a 2 or mild. The best I've had in town, not to mention their vegan coconut milk Thai tea. Too good!
We were so hungry after a full day of fun at the Zoo and this place was a saviour!!! Amazing Thai food!!! My husband doesn't really enjoy Thai but he went crazy over here! We had red curry with shrimp, basil fried rice with chicken ( my fav) and lemongrass chicken. Everything was cooked to perfection! Ordering was easy and even though it was a dine in, they still provide food in easy to carry boxes so you don't have to ask them for boxes to pack at the end. Superb service! We loved it so much that got the green curry packed to eat later. Highly recommend!!!
Clean. Attentive staff. Parking is a bit frustrating if your not familiar with the area. Becareful for one way zone. Loved the crispy chilli sweet wings crunchy tasty flavor.
The food was way too salty atmosphere was not the same either going to go to Park avenue from now on
Curry is amazing! Fried rice wasn’t my favorite. But have returned several
Times for their green curry.
Great place to hangout. Affordable food. Good taste.
They should allow people to sit inside in the cold winter months
Nice food, nice service, nice setting, nice and chilling music and good vibes. 100% recommended. I’ll be back.
Very good Thai food, probably my second favorite spot in SD. They have multiple locations but they're all consistent from what I've seen. Food is tasty and fairly priced compared to most others out there. Some of my favorite dishes to order are the drunken noodle, or green and yellow curries. Also, they make a pretty good Thai tea.
Fun fast casual Thai restaurant. I got the Pad See Ew, which was pretty good. The mango sticky rice was just okay. The sticky rice was pretty chewy. It's a fun atmosphere though. The dining is just out doors or take out, by the have heaters going when it's cooler.
Food is consistently delicious.
Delicious food and great friendly service!
Sad to give this only 2 stars because the food is actually great. But this is now the third time that I got take away from this location and I am missing part of my order. I actually walk my dog and then pick up my order, so comming home and finding out I am missing part is just very disappointing. And I was so much looking forward to my spring rolls :(
Place is very clean and run efficiently. They prepackage everything to go so you can grab-and-go our dine-in.
Their yellow and red curry is awesome. I have never had such a creamy and tasty Thai curry.
I eat here a few times a week either by myself or with family. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and chilled. Prices are not that bad. And just down the road is Balboa Park if you are looking for somewhere to go after your brunch or dinner. I'm sure you will love their authentic Thai food.
Best Thai in San Diego
Was disappointed it was all disposable utensils and cups, no plates. My garlic stir fry had very little sauce, was dry and way too much chicken and not enough veggies that were undercooked. Other dishes were better in my group, but nothing that made anyone say, “this is good”. Overall not impressed based on my friends high recommendation and wouldn’t go back for a second chance simply because I don’t want to add to the mountains of trash that is created by going here.
Tasted freshly made, so they had that going for them. Chili oil was yummy!
Yellow curry is ❤️❤️❤️ love this restaurant and trust all their food! Always full and busy , great environment
The food is 5 stars - some of the best in San Diego. But all the disposable packaging that it comes in is really disappointing when dining in at this restaurant. I get that it's easier than dealing with real dishes and hiring dishwashers, but this level of waste is hard to over look. To the owners: please start using real dishes for dine-in customers and save the disposable plastic containers for take out only 🙏🏻
Gluten free and vegan options!! Their pad see ew is so good. I’ve eaten here multiple times and absolutely love the food.
Good food, good prices, convenient location
Yellow curry is the best
We just tried this restaurant today and ordered 5 lunch entrees and the only dish I found that is not sweet is the fried rice. The chicken and eggplant dish which is I expected to be savory is also sweet. The food would have been good if they don’t put sugar in them.
Loved this place!!
Never disappoints!
I started off fried egg rolls. The green curry was excellent. Will definitely be returning to this restaurant.
Many vegan options. Amazing flavors
Bahn Thai has some good thai food options and there spice levels are really spicy so be mindful while giving the order. There is a front patio and back patio and some side seating tables which you may discover on the way to the restroom. Food served in to go containers.
Wow! The yellow curry and garlic fried rice w/chicken was delicious! The flavor was amazing and chicken was fresh . The staff over the phone was also very friendly !
Food was really good. The service could be better.
I am 11 years old and me and my mother stopped at this place for lunch. I ordered the Firecracker Chicken, at medium spice. Because it was my first time here. I like spicy food but I just wanted to start medium. My mom got medium pad thai. I tell you when I saw that food my mouth was watering. The chicken definitely did not look dry. I could poke my knife into it and see all the flavor. Anyways when I tried it I loved it. They give you an option of white or brown rice. I got white rice. The chicken was seasoned and there was basil on top of it which gave it a great flavor. It had a some other vegetables in it. And the Tiger Sauce was great and added flavors. The seating was cute and stylish, you can only sit outside which is cool to me. It was a hot day so luckily on the side seating, where I sat, it was covered by a roof. There was also seating in the back and the front. Definitely gets 5 stars.
Finally, great Thai food in San Diego! I love the food here, the spice level is perfect and it’s very authentic overall. I’m picky about Thai food and don’t enjoy it as much if it’s been westernized, but this spot reminds me of Thailand. I love coming to Bahn Thai, will definitely be back!
A friend of mine calls this her favorite Thai spot in all of San Diego. It's taking me a few years but I finally tried it one afternoon on my way through North Park. It did not disappoint and let me just say I'm sad for all the time I've wasted not eating their food 🤣

I'm already planning my next visit!!
Thai food was good. Pineapple Rice was sweet.
My hubby and I love Bahn Thai, but after today's prices, "inflation" as the cashier stated, we won't be going here any more. Smh... we really enjoyed going here.
I love Bahn Thai! But their recent price increase really bummed me out. Satay went from $6.75 to $9 - almost 35% increase. And given their “take out only” style dining, the prices seem too high now. I’m sure I’ll still go, just, unfortunately, not as frequently.
This is my favorite Thai food restaurant by far! Everything on the menu is amazing. My favorites are the pad thai and pad see ew , the green and massaman curries, and the delicious spring rolls! I'm a lifelong customer. I try other places but keep coming back!
Best Thai food in San Diego! Always come here!
Fresh, and at a great price! I just wish it wasn't take out only.
Some of the best Thai food in San Diego
Their food is simply delicious. I am a huge fan of the crab fried rice & yellow chicken curry. I don't know which one I love more.
Love this place !!!! To me it’s the best Thai hands down . I drive from Chula Vista when I crave Thai food. It’s worth the drive.
amazing food, good prices
My favorite pad Thai in San Diego. I pick some up almost every Friday and I'll call from work and it's ready when I get there and can usually get a take out pick up parking spot.
Pad Thai chicken and Thai tea were good! I also do like that their noodles are more on the brown side as opposed to the red/orangey color. So they probably don't add ketchup or something like that to their sauce.
I don't think indoor seating was available, but there's a large front outdoor patio and one in the back. They also have a water station towards the back of the restaurant, so grab free waters when you're waiting. 😊
Best Panang curry ever!!! Favorite place in SD!!
The best noodles in hillcrest! Bahn Thai always serves up super fresh and tasty noodles, with a nice touch of wok hei. The drunken noodles with roasted duck are amazing. The crab fried rice is also bangin, they use a good amount of real crab. Service is always friendly and fast. Parking can be tough, but it's worth it!
Fresh food, friendly service, cute patio atmosphere, and the BEST TOM GA SOUP I've ever had!!!!!!!!!
Both locations have excellent food and service!
long wait for takeout but was good
Food never misses! Out of all the Thai restaurants in Central San Diego, Bahn Thai is definitely up there for me. The green curry is spicy and flavorful with delicious egg plants and the yellow curry really feels filling especially on gloomy days. Great noodles too and you gotta try the duck 10/10
Bahn Thai is our favorite! Our friends from out of state love their Pad Thai--we went 3 times in 5 days their last visit! I also LOVE their yellow chicken Curry. The service is amazing. I got a dish I wasn't in love with and they happily, without question replaced it.
Amazing thai dishes, and spicy!! It’s also a beautiful venue with ample patio seating and some cute indoor seating as well. The only reason I’m leaving off the fifth star is because they put ALL their food in to go containers (even though many people were dining in). That’s so much plastic!! It’s a much more pleasant experience to have your hot meal in a dish rather than melting with the plastic container, in a plastic bag, with a plastic fork… Regardless, we enjoyed our meals and a sunny day on the patio.
Ordered take-out, 4 different dishes and mango sticky rice. All of them were dry, with average flavor. This wasn't the worst Thai I've had, just not deserving of the star ratings others have given.
Excellent
We tried three appetizers and three main dishes and everything was absolutely delicious! You place your order at the counter and then go sit down and they bring the food to your table in "to go" containers. We dined there on the very comfortable back patio and then just put on the lids and brought the rest home to enjoy later. Highly recommend!
The food was good the experience was a little strange. You ordered the food and then they bring it to you and to go containers. They do have an area you can eat the food in the back. They got the order wrong but then quickly fixed it after I spoke to them about it ,it was no big deal they just brought us the wrong kind of,
The food was amazing, the concept is just a little strange
One of the best Thai spots in San Diego
Delicious food, great costumer service.
Delicious, reasonably-priced food, quick, friendly service, in a convenient location.
This place is amazing! Service was good, everyone was super friendly. The food was fresh and super tasty! I will definitely be back for more!
Visiting from the east coast. This is in the top 3 best Thai food I’ve ever had
Good food here. Cheaper than other Thai places in Hillcrest too. Yellow curry is delicious, you should try it :)
Great food!
Large amount of options, especially for those with food allergies. Food was great, will likely be visiting again in the future.
The best Thai restaurant in town. We’ve been living in SD for over a year now and once we discovered this place, we’ve been going almost once a week. It’s the only thai restaurant we’ll go to.
Not only is this place great but they also have exceptional service. Since they only offer takeaway, orders are always correct and on time with their eta.
We usually get the yellow curry and pad thai but we’ve also tried pad see ew, springs rolls, and the calamari. All delicious!
Muy buen sabor. Buena opción para comida que sí sabe a Thai
Stop the communists jab papers
Good food and service. Outdoor seating with space heaters. Overall a good dining experience.
I had the three flavored fish. Yum! It was tangy, sweet, and sour. It's over brown or white rice and a side of steamed broccoli. Gary got the green curry and mild, and it was still spicy. Jason got the duck curry. I also got a little side of Tom Ka. Yummy!! We sat outside under the heat lamps. Everything is in Togo packaging.
Best of Thai I have ever had. Best crab wontons. Good gosh.
Great food and fast service
Let's start with location. Great place but parking can be really difficult everywhere in that area.
The staff were super awesome and really know how to treat regulars.
Food: small portion size compared to other Thai places with similar offerings at the same price.
Decent flavor, but the fried fish pieces get really soggy in the sauce making them more rubbery mush. Great flavor but not but loses all texture.
Would get 3* but staff make the difference.
Style: confusing double register with the one they use for ordering up stairs out of the way. This forces you to come up the entrance into the restaurant past a register and bottled goods they are selling up to a small alcove with a digital menu to order amd pay, then back down stairs into anyone down there to the patio dinning and waiting areas.
All in all, if I lived near there I would do occasional take out pre order and that's about it.
Sooooo good!!! The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.
I WILL be back!
Fantastic food and a wonderful atmosphere.
Disappointed and frankly annoyed at how they rushed us out at exactly 10pm when they close, even though we were seated at an outside table (asked rudely to wrap up multiple times over few minutes). Not sure they understand this is a service business. Food was very good.
Whether take out or fine in, this place is CONSISTENT and very good !! Firecracker chicken, pad- Thai, garlic chicken, and their curries are really good
Rare that a Thai restaurant in America elevates the game, but Bahn Thai is it. Their whole menu is fantastic. Even the basics like their Pad Thai are more flavorful, colorful, beautifully presented than your average. Best crab Rangoon I've ever had too. Great staff, super efficient, and some of the best Thai food I've had in recent memory.
This is one of their newer locations the original I believe is on Park boulevard and super duper always crowded. This one is really easy to pick up and plenty of seating outside in the front and back, with some on the side also. There's currently no indoor seating. So far their food has been really good, my favorite is the green curry with chicken! My bf likes them massaman curry with pork. Good service and quick. Patios are both dog friendly. Also for the gluten-free people, their menu clearly states which is and is not.
This is the kind of place from which your amazing girlfriend picks up food to try to salvage your meeting-filled 11 hour work day. This is the kind of place that has medium spiciness that’s spicy enough to seem spicy. This is the kind of place that I review.
Food
We got the chicken pad see ew, yellow curry with duck, and the papaya salad. The pad see ew was good. I still haven’t found the best PSE in San Diego, but this is up there. The yellow curry was good and flavorful. I found a bone in the duck, so try to chew your food carefully, you hungry fiend. Anyway, the papaya salad was the aforementioned medium spicy thing but it seemed very spicy to me. Wow wow.
Service
“The cashier was super nice btw” - aforementioned amazing girlfriend
Speed
“And the food was ready in 20 minutes”
Recommend?
Yeah, it’s a solid option.
Food is fresh and a little spicy but so worth it 👌
Bahn Thai is good Thai food and there's really no other way to say it. Each entree is well made, piping hot when served, and the seating is spaciand ample. Be aware that if you order the fire cracker chicken it is VERY hot. A different spice level is used. There is a front patio and somewhat hidden back patio you may discover on the way to the restroom.
Love this place & that they have GF options ! Food is always amazing. Everything is fresh & prepared quickly. Great customer service too!
Best Thai food I have ever eaten.
Best thai soups in Hillcrest, great portions on everything
