Relaxed eatery serving up an assortment of Thai & Lao dishes in an open & airy atmosphere.
My bf brought me take out from this place and I was so happy. He said it was super busy with a lot of people and great ambiance. It was my first time trying it and everything tasted so good. He brought me the Drunken noodles with chicken, Golden Wings, and fried rice. I love that they served us such big portions. The rice was good and spicy, noodles were flavorful, and wings were crispy and tasty. I can't wait to go back and actually dine in and try more stuff.
This family owned restaurant is great! Our server Mike was so kind and had amazing hospitality and really made us feel right at home.
The food was incredible. We had drunken noodles and Pad ped
No thrills Lao / Thai. With nothing but smiles and cares from the whole family. They’ve been around for years and I can tell why!
The portions are big, the flavor is bold and perfect amount of spice.
We will be back! Thank you to the mom (chef) son Mike and his whole family who took great care of us!
This is a chill and casual restaurant with excellent authentic Laotian and Thai dishes. I got drunken noodles and they were perfectly spicy, full of color and fresh veggies, and tasty noodles with tofu. I had to take a few breaks to cool my mouth down (that’s a good thing). The dish was also very generous portion for the price of $13, plus great service too and kept my cup filled with ice cold water. Menu has many options- I want to go again and try the curry fried rice.
Someone recommended this Thai restaurant and we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Pad See Eiw with tofu and the Drunken Noodles with mock duck. Both were delicious.
I also ordered to take home this green dessert treat that was green on the outside and had some mung bean on the inside. That was so gross. We threw it out after tasting it.
The restaurant was located in a strip mall, was nondescript and had a bedraggled atmosphere.
While the food was good, we would rather go to an establishment that looked cleaner and had more atmosphere, as that is also important to our dining experience.
Otherwise, this would be a good place for take out.
Hidden gem near city heights/ college avenue. This hole in the wall Thai/laotian establishment offers quality food and service at an affordable price. I went here with my Gf and ordered the drunken noodles, red curry and lard salad. Everything came out fresh and portions were reasonable for the price. I believe it’s family owned and the servers are part of the family so you can tell they take pride in delivering quality customer satisfaction!
Stopped in here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the quality taste and portion size of the plates here.
The server we had was very nice and attentive and the others sever came to help and they work in a team.
Nam Cao dish was delicious with house made sausage chopped up.
Had the drunken noodle with beef and it was mild as requested.
What made this dish so tasty was the balance of the flavor not too sweet, spicy, acidic or bland.
Lots of Thai places kind of skimp on the vegetables and this place does not.
Was super impressed with how fast dishes came out.
The spring rolls with shrimp were very fresh delicious and crunchy and were the largest portions of nearly anywhere else I’d ever been to.
Parking wasn’t bad but the spots are small you will get a door ding more likely than not.
It definitely feels homey and like you’ve been to a foreign land, it’s very family friendly; highly recommend this place order to go if you want but eating in will also be very good.

Real authentic family spot that feels just like home but better (because everyone is nice lol!) Every single dish I’ve had has been better than any other spot. So many ready-made items wrapped and ready to go for lunches, leftovers etc. Prices are so reasonable given the quality too. And there’s always parking!
Delicious and fresh food, generous portions. Fast and friendly service. I loved all the Laotian authentic snacks for sale. We loved it!
The mango sticky rice 👌🏼
My son took me yesterday, never eaten Loation food before. I don’t what was better the food or the service. It’s a mom n pop place which I love. The prices are decent also. Very friendly a will be back taking my sister there today. That’ll be my go to from now on.

Good papaya salad and pad thai. This place has always been good. They have been opened since eaely 2000s
The cuisine was truly authentic and with flavor! It felt as though a loving mom and caring auntie were behind the scenes, preparing the delightful dishes. However, the establishment could benefit from some modernization and improved cleanliness.
Sang Dao is a straight up Lao Food staple in San Diego. For the longest time it was the only Lao restaurant I even knew about here. The spot is family owned and you can't help but feeling like you're just visiting the family and the aunties are in the kitchen sorting everyone with proper meals. They have PLENTY of gluten-free options and vegan meat substitutes. They will even take MSG out upon request, which is HUGE. They got ALL the yummy desserts and snacks you'd expect to get at a Lao food spot and when something is out, it's OUT until they cook it again. I DEFINITELY recommend this spot if you're ever in need of a restaurant with a good vibe and friendly people.

I don't buy any food on the counter because it's very old. I got food poisoning.
Best Laos style papaya salad! Even their already prepped to go foods were so delicious! I wish they did delivery …
I was there for take-out twice, so I have more experience w the service and food. About the food, it's fantastic. I felt like Laoatian has a ton of similarities with Thai. But even the, this was some of the best I've had, even in Thailand. I'm sure I picked the wrong places.
Great service...some of the best Massaman curry I have had and I could only eat half!!!! Good price. I will be back next week😁
This was my first experience having Thai food, and I was not disappointed. I was greeted at entry and seated immediately. The staff was kind and friendly, and happy to answer any questions. The food was amazing and I will be back for more. They offer vegetarian, vegan, and healthy options; everything is served in large portions and at affordable prices.
Had the best drunken noodles here. Limited seating here so make sure you show up before lunch rush.
Incredible food. We just got the shrimp spring rolls, pad Thai, and drunken noodles all for under $40 and all three dishes were excellent. The drunk noodles had a bit of heat to them and I have never had such fresh spring rolls. The peanut sauce that came with them was also the perfect level of sweetness. We will have no problem getting 4 meals out of this and would 100% recommend
Best pad see ew you can find in San Diego. Great price, great portions

Got the phad pet and the boat noodles. The boat noodles were okay. The broth was too sweet and we got sick of it quickly. The taste of the curry of the phad pet was good. However, there was not a lot of protein in it and tasted lower in quality. Prices were decently cheap though so I guess it's a tradeoff there. Workers were really nice though.
Pretty good. One of my frequent contenders of where to get food.
Go to Thai/ Lao place whenever we are in the area! All the food is delicious, super flavorful and authentic. And service is wonderful 😊
Did not live up to the reviews.
Good food, good portions, good prices, and good service. I have zero complaints, Sang Dao is totally worth visiting.
This place is really good! The atmosphere is great and the people who run this place are really friendly! I've only had a couple dishes so far but I will make sure to come back and try more! The mango sticky rice is a must try when you get here.
Good, but they need to chill on the msg. So much! I woke up in the morning feeling hungover, but I didn't drink alcohol. I was so dehydrated from the msg. Good, family friendly atmosphere and good food. The person who greeted us was so nice, but the rest of people seemed to not care at all.
Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Service was fast and friendly. Already planning to return.
This quickly became our favorite Lao spot. More than just the usual offerings on their menu, and the food is much more flavorful than what you usually find in SD. There is a real homemade quality to everything we've had, and the service is always extremely friendly. The sausage, fish cakes, and Phad Lao are some of our go-to favorites.
I enjoyed it more than my wife. The services was very fast. Needed this food after a hard day at work.
My go to place for Lao food. I always got the sausages and sticky rice. It was so good! Highly recommend!
Very tasty food! The Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Spicy Fried Rice, Salt & Pepper Chicken and Salt & Pepper Calamari all were delicious!! The reason for the 4 is the Calamari was too tough. Other than that, food was worth every dollar.
Amazing food and staff. Highly recommend if you're craving some boat noodles or a bit of authentic cuisine from this special part of the world.
Everything was flavorful and felt like home cooking. So glad we had lunch here!
Visited this spot on a friend's recommendation, it was so good,we went back after a few days. good food,, good atmosphere. Will definitely be back for more.
Sssssoooooooo delicious! Hands down best Thai Restaurant in SD and I’ve been to all of them! Mike is amazing and his service is top tier! Definitely my go to Thai Restaurant in SD…
This place is amazing. Great service and the food is delicious. One of the few places that serve my favorite soup and they did not disappoint. I definitely would eat here again!
YO! Everything was smackin and heavy portions. Best bring a appetite when comin here. Will be back 🔥
Awesome 👍
Great food great service. Very friendly. I loved the noodles with chicken.
Super valu
Great authentic Thai cuisine. Prices are very reasonable and portions bigger than most places nowadays.
Sang Dao is the so GOOD we drive 45 minutes to come eat here BEST family own restaurant in San Diego!
Real lao food
10/10 bbq beef is amazing with the sauce 👍🏼
Our favorite Thai restaurant. Ate here several times and it's become our go to for Thai. I honestly don't think I've had a bad meal. However as good as their Tom Kah is, it's definitely too sweet. One of our favorite is the Drunken noodles.
Really good food, good price and good service. I got the sweet and sour fried whole fish. Its like thai food but a bit sweeter. Fresh and delicious, try it!
I really enjoy their rice dishes a lot. The chicken is very tender and flavorful. They give generous portions that make for great leftovers.
I love their food. Very nice waiters and a nice clean restaurant.
Excellent Service
Original Taste
Today was a bad day to get food here. Pad thai was super sour! I couldn't keep eating it. I asked for level 4 spice. There was no hint of sweetness like normal. The nam kao to go was not good. The rice was wet and soggy. Very disappointed in this experience because this was one of my Lao favorite spots but the food wasn't the same. October 6th around 11 am got takeaway.
This spot has been one of my faves to get my Lao food fix. The food here is delicious and the prices are fair. I love that they have hot premade foods for takeout. Also the childhood Lao snacks available that bring me back memories. The Lao beef jerky, sausages, pork rinds, and jeow with sticky rice mmmm. I recently had their freshly made chinese donuts and it was the best I had. They sold out fast too.
Warning, don't try to to order through Ubereats, they just send the order to another restaurant 30 minutes away.
Came here with friends that have been here before. Had the Phad See Eiw and it was very good. It is what I ususally get at other Thai resturants and the Laotian version is very flavourful. If you are in the area, this place is worth trying.
Wonderful restaurant in small strip mall. Mike was great and helped us order. We loved the drunken noodles and yellow curry , recommended by mike. We can't wait to return. FABULOUS food🤗
Our favorite joint for Lao food. We ordered the khopiek sen, bitter beef laap, and innards soup for an early lunch around 10:30AM. At first I thought the bowl of khaopiek was pretty small, but I ended up getting a to-go box because there was so much chicken, pork blood, and noodles I couldn't finish it (less soup, more stuff!) I also noted that the noodles are cut by hand, not machine 👍
The innards soup was also hooked up with a lot of tripe and intestine. The laap had tripe too, so you know its legit 🔥🔥🔥
Nothing was lacking in flavor, my husband said it was perfectly to his taste--lots of umami flavor if you know what I mean. If there was anything I would change I would ask auntie in the back to chill on the salt/msg but thats just me 🤣
We also bought some kiep moo/pork ears from the ready-to-eat foods. The skinny kind which was well seasoned, crunchy and not too hard! 10/10 will buy all the bags next time.
Authentic, delicious and generous offerings of Laotian and Thai classics. Service was prompt and polite. Waiter/co-owner(?) Mike was knowledgeable, personable, and efficient. We've traveled all over the Orient, love Thai and Laotian cuisine, and will add this to our list of favorite local restaurants. Fine dining, it's not--authentic Thai/Laotian, in generous proportions at very reasonable prices, it is! Give it a try--you'll like it!! Otherwise, stick to Mc'y D's...
Great Thai food, big portions, fast service. Mike, the owner, is a great guy!
Wonderful, unique, electrifying experience!!!
Some of the best pad Thai I’ve ever eaten. The golden wings are also so delicious. We also ordered the bbq pork and fried pork entrees with special sauce and sticky rice. What can I say, we ate with our eyes but everything was so delicious down to the sauce.
My only advice is if you plan to dine in, make sure you show up an hour and a half before closing otherwise they won’t seat you. One time we got there 1 hr before closing and the owner said they were only taking orders for take out and that last call for dine-in was at 6:45. So bummed! I’m sharing this because it’s not something I knew when I got here. But it’s not a huge deterrent for me so I’ll keep coming to this place because the food is amazing.
Stopped in here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the quality taste and portion size of the plates here.
The server we had was very nice and attentive and the others sever came to help and they work in a team.

Really tasty and fresh food, this is my favorite Thai food in San Diego. Interesting decorations inside. Family I like that this is family owned.
We were so pleasantly surprised by this place. Great food that gives bold on flavors. We will be back.
Delicious food and excellent, friendly service
Drunken noodles is my favorite dish so far, still need to explore more dishes. But the flavor on this dish is really good. I also had the Chow mein with beef also good. I'm more of a spicy guy. Good service and nice people.
We looked at the menu and was confused with the mixture of Thai dishes so we asked the guy for Lao dishes. He said they are similar, that Thai dishes is more sour spicy and Lao is sweet and spicy. He helped us come up with the dishes below (the first three he recommends).
Phad Lao ($12.95) - stir fried noodles with egg and already comes with ground pork. Sliced carrots and bean sprouts on the side.
Red curry catfish ($13.95) - A few thick slices of fish in red coconut curry. Watch out for the bones.
Ka pao ($11.95) - chicken hot and spicy in chili paste. Had a little kick.
Beef with oyster sauce ($11.95) - BF was stuck in getting this dish. It’s more diluted and lighter than the Chinese version of oyster sauce.
All the dishes were delicious. All dishes with the exception of the noodles had green and red bell peppers and onions.
Parking in this lot can be tight. Be careful getting out of the driveway.
This place is legit. I eat here at least once a week and I stick with the same order every time. It’s a sure shot good meal every time. My girl and I split the Ka Pao and drunken noodles. We order the Ka Pao to be extra spicy so when we mix the sauce with the pad Thai it is just about perfect. If you are in City Heights you gotta eat here.
Some of the best fried rice I've ever had. But then again I haven't had many authentic fried rices before. Still great food. I've illegally parked just to come eat here. 10/10 highly recommend
Yum!! I don’t get Thai or Vietnamese food much at all but I tried their chicken masaman Thai curry and it is so good!
Bad service and parking is Terrible
All food are delicious, reasonable price. Good service... all meal will be ready on your table less than 10minutes. Old style interior but it is worthed to try.
First time buying food here for take out and I will definitely return, the food have great taste ☺️☺️
Foods were really good except it was salty. The food was good, except it was salty. If i had a chance to eat there again, i would ask the cook to use less sauce.
Update:
In 4 weeks we have been to Sang Dao 3 times. It is our go to place for Asian food.
As I walked in the first time I felt a comfort of this was going to be a fine eating experience. I was not disappointed.
The aromas from the food were inviting and the decor was soft to the eyes with a couple of large screen TV's to watch. There are sufficient tables that can be arranged for parties larger than 6.
You have know this restaurant is a family operated restaurant growing with the community for over 20 years.
The staff is a welcoming group, showed us to the table. and provided us printed menus upon our request. This is everything that most all restaurants do. The difference is the attitude, congeniality and the dedication to providing a great experience for the Customer. On our visits and time permitting they not only frequently make sure their customers are doing well, they stay and have conversation with you to get to know you and you them.
We had on one occasion the Glass Noodle Soup, Fried egg rolls and Fried wontons. Everything was delicious. Memorable-The Fried Wontons had something extra in flavor texture. I'll always order them.
On the rest of the visits we had the Seafood- #41 Three Flavor Shrimp and Scallop with the Fried wontons and Fried Egg rolls. Sounds like a lot of food? It is is. The portions are excellent. The Sweet, Sour, Spicy sauce is the perfect complement to draw all the selections together. I remember having a bite of sticky rice and shrimp with the sauce. The spicy heat was not overpowering, it was enough to know it was spicy but not uncomfortable. It also made you want more of the flavors. The textures and presentation of all food was very good. On most recent visit for desert we had the Mango Sticky Rice (Seasonal). I had never had this selection in my life. Because I had so much entrée I could only taste it. You know when you taste something and you close your eyes to savor the flavors to remember, that is what happen. We asked for a to go box and I enjoyed it all the following day.
The overall review of Sang Dao is one very fine restaurant that is on my "More than Favorites" list.
Make the time to have an eating experience here.
Original posting - This a place holder for my upcoming review of this very nice restaurant. Suffice to say for the moment. Great food (taste, good spicy-ness, temperature, texture, presentation), comfortable decor, friendly, attentive service, and good pricing.
Great food
Very good spicy noodles.
This place does great Thai food. They've got a secret menu that you can order if you know other Thai dishes. What I love most of all is these guys support SUSTAINABLE green eating in that they will happily fill your own containers of food for takeout.
Wasn't thr best food I had while visiting San Diego, but it was good for what it is worth.
Amazing food and super friendly people. Great customer service. Reminds me of home
Food was excellent service was awesome
Not bad
Great food. Even better service!!
My favorite thai place near sdsu
Best Lao food in town
💣Tom kah soup
This place is maybe the most delicious restaurant in san Diego
Best Thai food I’ve ever had!
Andava.sun.cash
Geat Thai food, enjoyed very much!!!
Best Lao food I've eaten in a while.
Best thai food in san diego!!! Any other place ive tried is disappointing
This place never disappoints, they serve great proportion of food and the take out orders are always correct and quick (never have to wait for more than 15mins). Their crispy pork drunken noodles always hits!
This is my go to place for Lao/Thai food! This is family owned and the staff is always so friendly and accommodating. We go here often enough that they know what we order. I grew up having Lao friends and always loved eating their home cooked meals. The food brings back fond memories. Here's my food recommendations:
-Papaya Salad (Lao style)
-Tom yum soup (I always order this!)
-BBQ beef with yummy dipping sauce
-Phad Ka Pao with ground chicken
-Phad thai - thin rice noodles with tons of flavor
-Phad see ew - thick noodles is also my fave
-Fried rice - you can't go wrong with this!
Price for thai food here is average and anywhere you go. Portions are a good size, service is A+ and food is always FRESH! We can usually find an open table anytime of the day. They also sell items over the counter like crispy pig ears, desserts and etc. Parking is very tight because they share the same lot as the liquor store and El Pollo Loco. Sometimes we have to park down the street. Oh well. It's definitely worth it!
Great service
Best price for papaya salad you get a lot for the price other places don't give you that much
Love the pork larb. :)
When you go here Order their seafood place with that great sauce you will not be disappointed they also have delicious salted pepper chicken wings just as good as raw Mandarin without the high price I love it
Great food and a very traditional home style flavor. Reminds me of food my friend's mom made as a kid.
This is one of my favorite local spots. Their food is always delicious and the service has always been quick and friendly. Highly recommend.
Papaya salad was awesome
Great food great service. They just need a update they're hours for covid 19, and also maybe answer the phone more I try to make phone orders never goes through really. But other than that they're great!
At first I was skeptic, but after that first time me and wife had Lunch at Sangdao we have been going there for Lao food. The host was humble. Food is still great even with the COVID-19 going on. Place is clean and they have hand sanitizer for you to use when you pick up your food.
Yellow Curry w/ Beef:
Not bad at all, needs more coconut cream and less onion. There were a lot of onions, I felt like Shrek. Good portion of curry, not a lot of rice.
Love all the foods they have here. Staff is friendly.
Always delighted with the flavors at Dang Dao.
The fried battered shrimp and sacalops are DEFENATLY recommend
Amazing shrimp pad thai
Yummy coconut milk soup.
Yummy
This is our favorite Thai restaurant. I love the green curry and my husband loves the drunken noodles.
Best curry in San Diego
Been comming here since I was a teen with my mom. Family run joint with affordable healthy eats!!The Papaya salad is always on point.
Great food while watching football/Aladdin
My first time being there. My food was good.
The food was plentiful but the quality was lacking. I was with a friend who is Loation and spoke Loa to the server. Who by the way looked like a Asian version of a gangster. The kitchen stafd were screaming in Laotion at each other about who was in charge. The server was very attentive. I was pleased but my Loa was very upset with the Phó and the beef jerky. So if someone who is native did not like it? Also, compared to surounding Thai Loa restaurants they were pricy.
I frequent this place quite a bit and it's a wonderful place to eat Lao food. Definitely recommend it.
Definite hole in the wall. Egg rolls are super delicious, boat noodles were good, pad thai was pretty good but I didn't like the beef in that much. If I went again maybe I'd try chicken pad thai or something else entirely.
I was just here with my kids we love this place and never had issues with it , tonight was a whole different scenario ,I found 2 Hairs in total,at first I taught they would be understandable ,but no Waiter was super rude and did not even apologize about the incident I did not make a big deal but honestly breather then having the plate taken off my bill I would have wanted a apology instead will not come back
ttsss mmmmm Nice..
Love the food here
Very, very, good!!
Good eating
Best place to get Laotian food in San Diego!
Food was delicious. We ordered Pad Thai and it took me back to Thailand. We also had the golden wings, panang curry and fried catfish (watch out for the fish bones). Love this restaurant. We will def be back for more!
The service was great. Found parking right away. Food was very authentic and big portions. Will be coming back
Super good.
Love it
Good Thai food
This is the best hands down thai laos restaurant in san diego. About 10 dollar entrees and whoever cooks is amazing! Never had a bad meal. Warning its authentic so the spice levels have more kick. Medium spice in my opinion is pretty spicy! They have all the hot sauces on the table however so i ask for mild and kick it up to my level. Cant aay enough good things about this place. Great for groups too
Awesome food!
Wonderful food. Great portions!
