No-frills restaurant fixing up late-night Thai staples including duck salad & beef noodle soup.
My spouse and I stopped by for lunch after not visiting for over 20 years. It was a pleasant experience, and the place wasn’t crowded at all. We opted to sit outside, where there was plenty of seating available. The decor is simple, but in return, you’re treated to exceptional service and incredible food. Our waitress, Nong, was friendly, polite, and respectful, and we liked her right away. My spouse ordered vegetable spring rolls, which were crispy and delicious, and the vegan Tom Kha Kai with tofu and rice on the side—he loved it. I had the amazing duck over rice, which was absolutely delicious. I apologize, but by the time I remembered to take pictures, we were almost finished eating, so no photos of the duck. But trust me, it’s worth trying—it’s that good!
It might be a good thing to ask if the good is spicy. I ordered the coconut soup and it was great but the noodles that my friend ordered were really spicy and he couldn't eat them.
Also the portions of the food are really big, so you will be fine if you order just one plate.
It is open until really late.
I came at 12.30 AM and it was full of people! Great place! Very nice personal! It's really tasty and fresh!!! I'm happy to find this place and definitely will come back again and again! I took noodles chicken soup, and it was awesome and big enough to be full. A lot of chicken was in the soup! Very recommend! Opened till late night 🌙
The food here has always been consistently good. The service can be a touch slow, but I'd chalk that up to the food being made fresh and right.
On this visit, the salted fish fried rice was ironically too salty. It seemed more like the whole dish was salted, not just the fish, but still tasty, and a squeeze of lime neutralized the excessive salt flavor and truly brought it back to life.
The Crying Tiger (strips of beef served with a slightly spicy vinegar dip and no sides) was exactly what it was advertised to be. No complaints at all. It's definitely satisfying and delicious, but no particular wow factor. Nice and simple.
I loved the thai iced coffee. 👌
There are some interesting decorations, but not to elaborate or vivid. Very much just a lunch or dinner spot or grabbing food with a friend. Nice and casual. Not on my list of places for a celebration, but if their cuisine is all you are after, then definitely seem to deliver.
I recently dined at this Thai restaurant and was blown away by the authentic flavors they offer. The Pad Kee Mao was exceptionally spicy and delicious, just the way I like it! The customer service was top-notch, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Although I wasn't a fan of the slightly sweet Thai Chicken Fried Rice, the Pad Kee Mao Tofu was a delightful alternative. Ground noodles tasted delicious. I highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine with a kick!
Went for dining in this place as i was told food are delicious. Ordered phad thai, shrimp cakes and special chicken rice which are indeed decious but to me about average in terms of quality and quantity. The phad thai lacks peanut, the shrimp cakes too dry but tasty. The rice is delicious. Service a bit slow but still worthwhile to visit whilst youre in LA.
Went here after a show at the Pantages. Loved the pad see ew and roasted duck over rice. Daughter enjoyed the shrimp cakes. Portions are big! Nice staff.
Superb Thai food. I’ve tried maybe 10 items on the menu and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Try the red curry.
Crazy prices. Two conbination fried rice and 1 thai tea for $49.11. What a crazy place to charge that much. In my life I’d return. Not worthy.
Great food, quickly served and big portions. Heads up! When you walk in, you won't be greeted and will probably be standing around feeling weird till a server takes you to a table. Food tastes amazing, service can be better.

Food was amazing
Service was good
Definitely be back for more
This is great mom and pop Thai food. Best in town imho I really can’t say anything bad about it love love love
My go-to Thai place was at capacity for delivery, so I decided to give this spot a try since several friends seem to like it. I’ve been dealing with the flu and just wanted some food after days without proper nourishment. I thought anything would do, but this went straight into the trash. It’s trash ...
oh yeah, lets also not forget about the $3 fountain coke that was badly out of calibration.
The food was okay but we had bad stomachs after eating here:(( I was so excited to try the food.
I’ve been eating in Sanam Luang since 1994
and the place is still the same
Still busy even above 9pm
The stir friend Glass noodle is awesome
However, we order the Chinese brokoly with Crispy Pork, but the pork is not Crispy at all (Pa Ord in Sunset better)
But this place is still the LEGEND!
Very RECOMMENDED!

Visiting again on Dec 2024
Everything Just Perfect
Not bad. Food was pricey but they give a good quantity of food. It was a little bland but they give a bit of sauces and spices on the side. Limited parking spots so go when they are a bit more slow. Overall, nice place to try at least once. The thai coffee was really good.
Among the entire staff of the establishment, there is one very unfriendly and inhospitable young man of short stature. He is extremely unfriendly, but tries to run the place. I believe that such people should not exist in the restaurant business.
FYI the picture of the Menu is from 4 years ago. Pad Ka Pow was $11 now it’s $17
The dishes could have been a bit more flavorful. I got the Chinese broccoli with garlic, noodles, and vegetarian Curry in red curry sauce. The best dish was the Chinese broccoli with garlic. Everything I asked for was under the vegetarian sections. I Asked for medium spice level. It did not have much spiciness at all. The male server was the most attentive. I was looking forward to the authenticity of the dishes but was a bit disappointed.
We enjoy our Sunday family dinner.
Very basic restaurant..very authentic restaurant..but don't expect fancy design or anything luxury.here the food is the most and only important thing.

Its not the same anymore every food is very sweet what happened? your sate was fry its very yucky the peanut sauce please cook like thai food dont put sugar its very sweet
Delicious

Wasn't this used to be one of the must-go places in Thai town? Dishes we had were rather bland. Meat (pork, chicken) were dry and tasteless. Had larb (hardly any ingredients), sanamluang noodles, pad thai (way too tart).
Restrooms are messy as well.
Also, they went from an 'A' health inspection to 'C' (03/2024) and recently 'B' (08/2024). Meh.
Food was good, had the Red with beef, Probably should have done chicken but wanted to try something different. Staff were friendly and food came out quick and hot.
Racist ! If you ain’t Thai, you last! Good food etierh way
Consistently delicious
Very disappointed with my takeout order. I got the combination fried rice and the rice was over cooked. My mom ordered chicken fried rice and she found pieces of egg shells and her rice was also over cooker. Service wasn't great either 😕
Went for dining in this place as i was told food are delicious. All I have to say is that the food was better than in Thailand
Ordered online so cant speak to the service, but the food was pretty lackluster. We got the pineapple fried rice and pad see ew. Both were bland, the fried rice especially. It didnt even really taste like fried rice, much less pineapple fried rice; just rice and cumin. We didn’t take more than a few bites. The pad see ew was a little better, but the tofu was spongey. I dont usually leave bad reviews, but when I throw out delivery after just a few bites, it’s warranted. Maybe the rest of the food is fine, but if you’re seeking pineapple fried rice or pad see ew, look elsewhere.
Best food in night time so far
Used to be one of our favorite spots in LA but had a really bad experience here last night after a few up and down inconsistent visits. Last night food was super greasy, overly sweet & generally flavorless. Service was bad and dismissive. There were a bunch of bugs on our table that were crawling into our food and me and my partner were bitten by them. Very disappointed to see our favorite place added to the no-go list. 😢
A(n East) Hollywood institution. I love Thai Town. I love this place. Always open, always low key, always so so yummy. Some places just have good vibes.
This restaurant has over one thousand reviews and I thought give it a try. We ordered kapow rice(which is recommended by our waitress) and noodle soup. The rice was so salty and the noodle was so bland. Overall something wrong with seasoning.
Very flavorful and tasty dishes! Truly authentic food. Highly recommend and would love to be back. Encourage trying numbers 64, 68, and 77 - delicious!
Love love this place I've been going to this place since I was 15 years old I remember the first time I try there Indian curry soup oh my God it was beyond delicious and till this day that soup is still delicious, well all of their dishes are really delicious the staff treat you like family they know what your order is you don't even have to tell them they already know that's how great their customer service is love this place definitely recommend it
The worst Thai I've ever had, the Pad thai flavorless, the curry was fine, a huge disappointment since it was widely recommended
VERY NICE, went here with my husbands parents when they were in town visiting. Great food and homie atmosphere.
I’m happy to drive cross town again pick up my delivery bc food was that good
Mom's favorite Thai restaurant.
I’ve been going here since I was a little boy. This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area
The yummiest. Thank you.
I have been coming here for 20 years and it’s still so good. It isn’t fancy but well worth it.
Good service, great food, very fair price, all in all I would return many times over
Simply put, Hollywood will be forever changed without the lovely experience of
Sanamluang Cafe Hollywood.
With gratitude and gratitude to spare,

Love it
Fantastic again. They really should get a liquor license
My go-to for terrific Thai food in Thai town. Affordable, flavorful, fast service. Indoor and outdoor seating. Pad Kee Mow with chicken and flat noodles is wonderful.
good tofu pad thai, fast service
The waiter didn't seems to work at the time we were there. The food was pretty good.
The experience here was impeccable! The food was fresh and amazing, I had the duck curry, yum! Portions were generous with enough to eat, and a meal to take home. Price was very competitive also. Will definitely be returning for more!
I don’t need to say much. This place always, ALWAYS serves you right.
Good and friendly restaurant in Thai
town !!
Ordered 2 Thai sea food soups not worth a penny,
Threw the money out of the window, the suop is tasteless, and the shrimps are rubbery and old.
Terrible place and service!
Hits the spot and is open late 👌🏽
Los platos son muy abundantes. El servicio es rápido y la comida deliciosa. La relación calidad precio es muy buena.
Been going here for over 20 years. Good authentic Thai food! You can sit outside with your dogs and the lovely staff would feed my dogs chicken! How amazing is that! Still one of the best spot for great authentic Thai Food, and they are open very late like until 4AM 💯💯💯 Still the best spot for the real authentic Thai food I go to yummy yum yum 😋😋😋
This restaurant has really really good Pad Thai. It's very tangy and sweet. The fried shrimp cakes are really good too. They come with a sweet and sour sauce. However the Crying Tiger isn't that great. It comes with a tangy sauce. Service was fast and friendly. This restaurant has a parking lot in front of it! That's a big plus in this part of Hollywood.
Subtle tastes and a reason for the crowded line jumpers. Watch out for pushy privileged diners.
I've been coming here for years. The food has never changed its flavors, nor has the staff changed. Its really nice to go back to a place you have not been to foe years but remember it as one of your favorites and finally when you go back again years later the food and the staff remains the same. That's ways a winner for me. Because I get to continue to enjoy this eatery location that I love so much! My favorite are their wontons!
Not as good as it used to be back in the day
We discovered this place several years ago from the Thai Mother of a good friend.
They have the BEST THAI FOOD in SOCAL!
Since we live in San Diego we will drive up for lunch, grab some Thai groceries next door and drive home, usually bringing additional food home.
You will not be disappointed 👍👍
My go-to place for Thai food.
Super good food here. Opens late, great good, great service. Can't really ask for more.
Their house noodle soup or boat noodles are great for the winter nights.
The food was very good. The staff were kind and helpful. Pretty busy.
Always great food and service. Nothing to complain about. Best Thai place in Hollywood. (For me).
Great food
Sanamluang Cafe Hollywood, nestled in the heart of Thaitown, is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and culinary offerings. With a reputation bolstered by numerous accolades from food enthusiasts, my visit was highly anticipated. However, while expectations were soaring, the experience fell short in delivering the Thai culinary excellence it's celebrated for.
The initial disappointment surfaced through a commonality among the dishes - an overwhelming saltiness that overshadowed the authentic flavors. The Pad See Ew, notably drenched in an abundance of oyster sauce, lacked the desired chewiness in its noodles, deviating from the expected texture. Similarly, the Yellow Curry, known for its rich coconut milk base, leaned excessively on the salty side, unfortunately detracting from its otherwise enticing flavors.
Despite these setbacks, a glimmer of hope emerged with the Shrimp Cake—a true standout. Masterfully crafted with a crispy exterior that encased a tender and succulent interior, this dish showcased the kitchen's prowess and highlighted the potential for culinary brilliance.
However, the deviation from traditional Thai jasmine rice to regular rice may have contributed to a divergence from the expected aromatic experience that complements Thai cuisine.
In reflection, while the Sanamluang Cafe Hollywood might not have met personal preferences, particularly with a penchant for milder seasoning and authentic textures akin to the Thai culinary experiences found in the SGV area, the Shrimp Cake shines as a beacon of the restaurant's potential. Perhaps, for those with a taste for bolder flavors and a penchant for salty-sweet undertones, this establishment might resonate more positively.
The best Thai food I've had. Really authentic (which also means really spicy, even the mild version) food, the portions are big enough to last you for two meals.
Thai food was solid
We did not have a good experience here. The shrimp was not fresh from the seafood salad and the beef in the rad naa was definitely from frozen meat and very chewy. The price is not worth the quality or taste of the food.
A good late night, light kinda place.
We have been coming since the 90s, the food is still as good as I remember!
This place is so good. I always come here for authentic Thai food. Also their Thai tea is that best. Idk why it's soo good but ugh I usually have 2 or 3 honestly. (No free refills but worth it) the pad Thai is spot on and everything is honestly is just made with great flavors and tastes soo good.
Great food with reasonable price, the portion are good as well
I came here for the first time a little more than a year ago. Today was my second visit. All of a sudden, I got cravings for duck noodle soup and decided to head to Thai Town today. Not many places serve it anymore. I used to go to Rodded, but I think they closed. Even Pa Ord stopped selling duck noodle.
I've only ever ordered Sanamluang's duck noodle soup, so I don't know about other dishes. This place has fresh, perfectly textured meat and noodles. Personally, I loved the broth and felt that was perfectly seasoned. They even add veggies to it. I paid $16 for a huge bowl that could be two meals. Would definitely come back. A++++!
Always loved it! Come and enjoy the ambience. It is laid back and chill. 😎 🤙
Awesome authentic Thai food!
Todo esta exelente, el malo es uno que no sabe pedir lo que uno quiere comer..
Would NOT return to the establishment. Food was ok some of it was hard as a rock like it's been sitting out for awhile. Kind of pricey for what you get. Not to mention the high service charge and expect you to tip more even though they don't come around and ask if you want a refill or if the food is ok. Probably one of the worst experiences of a restaurant that I have had.
Very delicious large portions reasonably priced most of all, the foods were delicious.
get the pad kra pao. if a thai place can't make this dish good then it's not a place you want to eat.
Food is great, portions are great. Chicken pad Thai is fantastic
Amazing food.
Wonderful food!
Incredibly underwhelming quality of food. Lacks flavor, is skimpy on the meat with each dish, the two best dishes were the tofu pud see ew and the thai iced tea. Prices raised and portion/quality went down. We went at 4 and it was just our table of 3 and two other tables of 2. Used to be the best but definitely not anymore.
Came here to eat after playing basketball with friends… Ordered Pineapple Fried Rice and Thai-Ice Tea to drink.
I LOVE this place... i've been eating at this joint when it was just a soup counter in the market. At the time we called it "Budget Thai" since it was so cheap and the food was delicious. THEN we started to go there after the clubs closed at 2am. It was the place to go grab some good Thai Some of the reviews of the Tom Yum Goong soup is outrageous. It's good soup, and if you're expecting "gourmet" then you've gone to the wrong place. This place is good, the food is good, service (the last time I was there late night) was hilarious. They're fast. I've had almost everything on the menu, but my favorite is the Garlic chicken over rice, with Tom Yum Goong...spicy! If you're not that adventurous, have the shrimp cakes, and the Thai fried rice..OR have the Pad See Ewe with chicken. YUM!!! just writing this is making me crave for it!!
I realized recently that I've been coming here for 25 years and the food has remained consistently delicious for that entire time. Love the late night hours. As someone who works nights, it's nice to get delicious food after a long shift. Nothing fancy, just good food
I’m guessing this place USED to be a great place hence so many reviews. This is probably one of the worst Thai place I ate in LA!
First time tried this place during Pandemic in 2021 got some to-go food and wasn’t impressed.
Second time around gave it another shot since first time was during middle of the pandemic and we had it to go so thought let’s give it another shot!
Aug 2023 - Got there around midnight and ordered catfish, chicken larb, shrimp fried rice, duck, garlic pepper beef and not a single dish were fresh except for the larb salad. Everything tasted mediocre and you could tell they were just microwaved. Beef was chewy, catfish looked cooked hours ago, fried rice tasted of just sweet sauce. Not at all authentic Thai food.
Absolutely horrible service!
Don’t let these 1400 review fool you, do yourself a favor instead try Hollywood Thai which is right around the corner.
Amazing food and service.
Food was fine, except it was extremely overpriced, and my request for spicy food was flat-out ignored. The one vegetable in the dish seemed to be about 85% comprised of thick slices of broccoli stems, with 2 or 3 leaf particles mixed in. There were 8 shrimp, which was surprisingly alot. I requested a spicy dish and they said they couldn't make it spicy, so I requested hot sauce to be put on the side, specifically mentioned red chili sauce, to which they said okay, and when I looked in the bag at home, saw that I had received a tiny container of distilled vinegar with 3 slices of some kind of mild pepper. I was also charged $6 more than the price that was listed online. The food was ready pretty quickly, less than 10 minutes. Overall a fairly disappointing experience due to the dishonesty about the price.
Always good. An old favorite for 15 years!
Only my wife Cooks better Thai food :-)
The best comfort food Thia dishes. I have been going here since the 80's. I normally have the Thai Boat noodle soup, fried shrimp cake and or the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork over brown rice and topped with 2 fried eggs.
Prices are WAY up. But I still love the duck salad
I've known this place since 1997, last time ate here around 2000. The taste still the same except the Cha Po, deep fried roasted pork was really hard, I can't even chew it and also the BBQ pork bit dark and didn't look fresh at all.
The Best Fried shrimp cakes, love it & recommended.
Pork Leg over rice also really good but bit too much fatty but still really good.
Imagine eating the best Thai food in a parking lot on Hollywood Blvd. with really great prices.
I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. It never disappoints.
And it’s true, we ate on ramshackle tables & chairs IN the parking lot long before COVID.
The soup Tom Yum shrimp was not that appealing in presentation and didn’t look appetizing. At least not how most Thai spots have served it. The sweet and shout shrimp looked more appetizing and tasted good.. not too sweet which is great. Small shrimp but it was still flavorful. Thai ice tea is def good and so is the jasmine hot tea. The spot is really busy. Def not cleanest LA spot and restrooms need some care- major. Would we come back eh maybe for tea but not for food. And… it would have to be to go on the drink. Servers.. basically you have to call for someone or good luck in getting checked up on. Late night eats probably equals tired staff.. could be a good thing or not so much.
This place is a bit chaotic and very busy. Their wait list needs improvement. Once you are seated, everything moves along. The food came out pretty quick and almost all at once. This is not high end Thai food but it is satisfying. Perfect late night meal.
My go to eating place after a night out or when it is late. They used to close at 4am but now they close at 2am. Great authentic Thai food. Also a place to see movie stars eating here once in a while in the down low.
