Little spot in a small strip mall that's definitely over looked. Not so great on the outside but this place is nice inside and the food was fresh and delicious. Has the usual Thai , Chinese, sushi items but everything was excellent and so good. Some of the best, fresh fried wings I've had in a long time. Has a decent happy hour on weekends till 7pm too! Must go for the Lakewood, Cypress, Hawaiian Gardens area.

This sushi place never ceases to amaze me. The quality of everything is fresh, and the consistency is amazing. This has to be my all time new favorite sushi spot. They require you call for a reservation if you want to dine in. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They also have an amazing Matcha Green Tea IPA beer that is outstanding. I highly recommend eating here you won't be disappointed 😌 Happy hour specials are a daily thing so make sure to scope out the deals behind the counter.

There will be new owners in April 2021. The current owner and chef, Niko, has sold the business. He will focus his time and energy at his flagship restaurant, Sushi Plantation, in Mission Viejo.
Hanako was definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. The dishes created by Niko were as attractive and creative as they were delicious. Numerous friends and family have dined there. Although we are sad that he is leaving the area we all wish him the best.
As for the future of this location, it appears that the new owners will introduce a mix of sushi and Thai cuisine.

A great place for sushi and creative menu items. The chef has been in the restaurant business for almost 20 years. He's studied in France, among other countries, and brings that knowledge to his food preparations. The presentation is awesome as is the unique blending of the flavors form those different cuisines.

Of course, the sushi is at the heart of what is offered. I've been to many places where the temperature of the fish is too cold (tasteless) or just a tad bit too warm (mushy). Chef Niko serves his sushi at just the right temperature so that the flavors are are their peak and the texture of the fish is not compromised. This is rare.

The restaurant is clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. There is plenty of free parking.

Ask chef Niko for suggestions and you'll be impressed at what he can create. We'll definitely be back and with friends.

A very quaint setting which makes the space very inviting. You’re always in the line of sight of your servers as well which gives it a very personal feel. The food and presentation is fantastic. I enjoyed everything I chose on the menu, plus the substitute suggestions of our server. I will certainly be going back whenever I feel an urge for sushi. The price wasn’t bad at all; very affordable and good quality sushi. For an added bonus their ramen is very delicious as well, so don’t be afraid to just stop in for ramen too!

This place is a gem.....we have been here twice and both times have been absolutely amazing. Today we made it to happy hour and the service is outstanding! I recommend the crispy rice with spicy tuna...it's fresh and delicious! Not to mention their $3 beers for happy hour....we are definitely coming back for more

This place is bomb. The sushi was fresh, everything tasted good, and the service was excellent. The batter for the tempura had a fantastic, almost sweet, taste. The sushi combo had a variety that melted in my mouth like butter.

Their Calamari was overcooked, and the portion was criminally small! Only 7 pieces?!? Their sticky rice with mango was falsely advertised. It was advertised to come with almost a whole mango, but I only got half. Overall, very disappointing.

Pieces are great and they have happy hour everyday, which is a discounted sushi menu.

This place is pretty good as a sushi place when the sushi chef is the Japanese. Had someone else do my order last time and it was really bad. The other downside is that the bathrooms sometimes have a bad scent and it’s kind of gross eating there. If the sushi was consistent and the bathroom didn’t smell. This would be a 4 or 5 star restaurant. I think they should focus on sushi only. Instead of 2 business in one (Thai food). This place has potential.

It was pretty good. I made an order to go. The people were nice. The gyoza dumplings were left out of my order. Disappointed when I got home.

Food is okay at best though the staff are really friendly. I wish I could give this place a higher rating, but the flavors are just not up to par.
Also, the rice was too wet and a bit overcooked on the sushi...not sure if it's because of the sushi chef's lack of training and experience or if it was just an off day.

Do not recommend going here unless something changes. I now realize ownership has changed, thus our experience not matching the good reviews. I have never seen pad Thai messed up until I had it from here.

Please don’t go here if you want Sushi. New owners have no clue about Sushi. I got the Sashimi special and basically it was inedible. The frozen fish was disgusting. The pieces were smelly and made me gag. I ate about 2 pieces before I felt sick. I left the rest and paid and left. I guess I should have known better going to a place that advertised Thai food and Sushi. Go to Jang Soo Sushi down the street if you want quality. I was misled not knowing the reviews were regarding the previous ownership.

Thai rice noodles with shrimp had no taste no seasons. I though it would be good for the price. Nobody at my house liked it, taste like old oil . After a day I threw it away. The 3 egg rolls were good. I won't try your Thai again. Maybe I will try sushi.

Awesome food

One of the best hole in the wall sushi places. The only issue is the noise from the gym next door.

This is my first time at Hanako. We ordered ahead for pick-up. When we got home, one order was missing so we had to go back. Fortunately, traffic was not bad. Also, to make up for their shortcoming, they gave us a free hand rolled tuna sushi.
By the way, all our orders were delicious so it was worth going back for.

This place was hands-dowm amazing; the food, the ambiance, and more so, the staff/people working here. The vibe and feel of the place is so friendly and relaxed, while still being hip, interesting and cool. I highly recommend this place for both new and seasoned sushi lovers!!!

Came here with my nephews the sushi was amazing. Very quite but very good. Will defiantly be going back

Specialize in sushi but also have ramen, tempura, etc. My wife and I had the miso ramen and 2 orders of sushi which were very good. Will go back again to try some of the other sushi and sashimi items.

The co-owner Niko just opened this restaurant about a month ago. Before then, he was a chef at Sushi on Fire in Huntington Beach. His skill is impeccable, cuts generous, and is most personable. I will miss him in Huntington,
and know he will be a great success in Lakewood. Try this new restaurant, I think you will love it.
