We ordered a few different menu items (drunken noodles w/ beef, garlic w/ beef, & the summer rolls), along with our standard orders from any Thai restaurant (Thai tea, sticky rice, crab wontons).

Same as our last visit, our server was superior but again I failed to get his name. He was a younger gentleman, extremely pleasant, smiling, and very friendly.

11/16/24 - everything about Smile Thai was spot on. This particular Saturday early evening we arrived around 4:00 to an empty restaurant. We were seated immediately and were able to enjoy some of their interior design. Loved all of it.

It is part of a strip mall which means there is ample parking. There is a very small patio, maybe two, two-chair tables. It is not a large place but its interior is put together well so can accommodate quite a few people, I imagine.

I failed to ask our server for his name, but he was exceptionally polite and checked in on us frequently, typically within a few minutes of delivering each plated item.

We had the entire place to ourselves, but they did have a pretty hefty call-in and pick up action.

The food? The bomb! The Thai tea was perfect, crab wontons hot and crisp, edamame well salted, hot & sour soup hot & sour, and Thai toast also crispy -- and plentiful on all of it. My only critique on the soup would be to have smaller chunks of tomatoes.

We can never eat at a Thai restaurant without enjoying sticky rice for dessert. The server, however, saw us boxing up our meals to take home and brought over the check. We both laughed and said, "Oh no, we ARE getting dessert." He laughed with us and took our rice orders, one with mango and one with custard. Both were plated well with more mango and custard than many of the other places we have eaten.

We will definitely eat at Smile Thai again, and whole heartedly suggest to anyone who asks that they try it, too.

Went here on a Friday afternoon. Had the restaurant to ourselves until another couple came in a little later. The service continued to be prompt. I was so impressed with the service and food. We received a small soup before our meal which was delicious. We also received small ice creams after our meal. So basically an app and dessert were included in meal. The food was so good it was hard to stop eating. Their prices were great. I would be going here all the time if I lived closer but will probably make a trip back again just to go here again.

Food & service were great! We’re vegetarian & they had many options to choose from! We ordered Pad Thai & Thai Fried Rice. Pad Thai had more flavor than the fried rice but both were good. They have spice levels from 1-5 & we ordered #3. It was too spicy for both of us so just be careful !

This restaurants never fails to disappoint. I’ve been coming here for a couple of years and the food is always so good. Not to mention the workers, they are the sweetest most hard working people. I would very much recommend this place to friends and family

Smile Thai was a wonderful experience. The service was great with very friendly and attentive servers. Our food was very good. I'm not a curry expert, but I do know I love curry and this green curry was stellar. We also enjoyed the satay chicken for an appetizer and mango sticky rice for dessert!

One of their spice condiments has fish sauce with Thai chili peppers. When I saw that I was excited cause you don’t ever see that! When our food came out, everything was well balanced and flavorful. I also appreciate that it wasn’t heavy in oil with the noodle dishes. The curries were flavorful and light - sometimes most places make them super thick. Portions were plentiful! We had the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Kaw soi, & Green Curry.

Staff were super nice and friendly. Definitely check them out!

We tried this place for dinner one night. A small restaurant in a strip mall. We were greeted right away and seated. The server got our drink order. We ordered the Fresh Rolls as appetizer and very tasty. I ordered the Spicy Fried Rice with Chicken and my partner ordered the Panang Curry with Chicken. Both dishes were very delicious. The service was fantastic. The restaurant was clean as were the restrooms. Cannot wait to return.

Second time coming in this week. It could be the best Thai I’ve tried in Tempe.

Had Lunch today. Ordered 4 dishes 2 are ok. Drunken noodle was very bad - didn't taste great but more disappointed that there was very very little noodle, it was like 1/2 cup of noodle in a cup of mixed veg!!!!

One of the best Thai restaurants around. Everyone at our table was delighted. If you don't want spicy food they will accommodate you.
This is not a fancy place, just a simple strip mall restaurant. But they are friendly and the food is good.

Panang Curry was water down and had a bunch of veggies that it shouldn’t have.

I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing and the servers are exceptionally helpful and friendly. There's about 7 or 8 different curries you can pick from, along with a bunch of other menu option.

Only issue is that if you want actual spicy food you really have to be specific about it, otherwise it ends up being pretty mild

Amazing food local restaurant in Tempe

Don't let the plywood front door fool you, once you walk through the door, it's as if you walk through to a super fancy restaurant. Service was IMPECCABLE - very attentive and extremely friendly/professional! My "pad Thai" and my husband's "green curry fried rice" was AMAZING! I would rate it as one of the best pad thais that I've ever had (and I've had alot in numerous locations including Hawaii). ALSO, the price you can't beat! Very inexpensive! ... Just a weird if warning on the spice level - unless you like REALLY - and I mean REALLY- hot don't get more than 2. 3 was VERY SPICY! DELICIOUS but SPICY!

The avocado curry was the best Thai curry I've ever had. The drunken noodles with tofu was also incredible. Got both at a spice level 2 out of 5 and that was plenty. Paid with a credit card and left happy. Thanks again.

Visited this place for a late lunch today. We had great service. Food was absolutely delicious and portion sizes were very generous. With the soup, entree, spring roll, I ended up saving half of my meal for dinner. Basically, the portions are large enough to be both lunch and dinner if you are not too hungry for lunch.

The coconut ice cream was so good and the right portion too!

Try the Avocado Curry!

Ordered pickup. Just one dish for lunch, avocado curry. Absolutely delicious and the serving was so generous, I personally had enough to share with my husband for dinner that night. Decided to try this place as it was slightly less expensive than the other nearby Thai places. Atmosphere looked really comfortable, would love to come back with a friend and try dine in sometime.

Favorite Thai restraint in the area for sure. We always go if we’re by there. Great energy, lovely customer service, great yummy food, and fair prices!

I ordered the tom yum soup and to my surprise it had raw tomatoes it! When I pick up the food also found out it is under new ownership! And the manager was very argumentative when I told him about the soup Do not go there and Waste your money there other Thai restaurants in Tempe that are much better lesson learned!!!! Please change the name because your the same!!

Great lil place, lunch special was delicious. The cute lil ice cream cup they gave was a nice touch for sure! The Thai coffee should be purchased as a large, anything less and you're cheating yourself.

The garlic sauce is delicious, and it's usually a nice, quiet place for a meal.

I've tried a few other dishes, but after trying the green curry its now the only thing I ever get (I go here because I specifically crave it, so its hard to justify ordering anything else.)

Also, they have a new waiter that is delightful. He's sharp and asks the right kind of questions. I hope he sticks around.

(Do not order the calamari, though. It was like squid fish sticks. Very generic frozen food looking. It was kind of comical, but they could probably drop this as an apatizer option and be better off. I already love this place, so I'm not taking off stars for a silly filler item on the menu, I'm just letting you know what to skip.)

This place has a great little place near rural and Broadway. The ambiance inside is calm and welcoming. The staff is super nice and the food is heavenly. I had the pumpkin curry today for lunch and it had made my whole week! Thank you!

Discovered this new Thai place, and we're glad we did. I have been searching high and low for Thai toast, and they had it. It was absolutely delicious! The cucumber sauce they served with it was amazing! They started us off with their house special soup, and it was fantastic. Full of flavor and not too salty. We're definitely going back. The place was immaculate. The music was great.

I’ve gotten takeout a couple times the food is excellent the portions are decent. I guess everything has gone up in the past few years, but $15 still kind of sticks in my craw for pad Thai. Also, I’m not a big fan of TVs at restaurants but the extended family that was there that was grilling the waitress about what channels were on seem to need TV. on their family outing .

Fantastic food! Fantastic staff. Great atmosphere. Did I mention smazing food? Five stars all the way! The curry is excellent and they even gave us rice noodles on the side. Gluten free too! Highly recommend. AAA+++

I got a bowl full of flavorless noodles, 3 green bean slivers , 4 pieces of cabbage and spring rolls that looked like they’d been sitting out all day. I definitely felt like I was given the dregs of the day.

Usually a great place to eat, really has fallen off recently. Increase of prices with decrease in quality of food. Portions are great. Specifically requests chili and utensils (shame on me for not checking they have always given them) well now here I am in the middle of nowhere for work realizing I get to eat this with my hands no sauce. I requested a 5 heat they give me a 1. Overall just a disappointing experience hope they improve probably not as my purchase is just a drop in the bucket. So what do they care really

Disappointing curry. I always order red curry whenever I try a new Thai restaurant. This was not it, the curry was on the sweet side with barely any spice to it. Just overall bland. We also ordered the spicy noodles which again had no spice but at least had flavor. Better than the curry but something you could totally find at another Thai restaurant. Maybe we got them on a bad night. Would not recommend.

SEE UPDATE. Well prepared with fresh vegetables and sauces that are not overwhelming, this little restaurant is a gem. We've tried almost everything on the menu and loved all of it. Our favorite Thai food restaurant in Tempe.
UPDATE: something has changed at this restaurant and not for the better. Menu updated and dishes added, but the food is not nearly as good as it has been. There are numerous Thai restaurants in Tempe. We will explore those options now.

Food is always great! I’ve came here a handful of times now and quality never fails. Customer service is always fantastic. It’s a cute little quiet spot to eat a good meal.

I love Thai food and this was the best I have ever tasted. We were passing through Tempe on vacation and randomly stopped here for dinner. The Satay was as expected. The Thai green curry flavor was delicate and delicious. The Pad Thai sauce was extraordinarily rich. The portions were large. You won't go away disappointed.

Everytime the price is defferent.

The menu has pho which is confusing. Chicken satays are good. Beef pad Thai is too saggy, beef not fully cooked. Seafood eggplants is above average.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. The Yum Woonsen salad was fresh and fragrant with an exceptional amount of spice and the drunken noodles were absolutely delicious. Vegetables had a nice crunch to them and the chicken was juicy, with tons of flavor. Service was also excellent despite it being a busy Saturday night. Thanks for such a great experience- can't wait to come back!

Very long waiting time

Delicious food. Big enough portions that I was able to get three meals out of it! Also definitely was not disappointed by the spiciness when I asked for a 5. Definitely has some heat to it!

I've been twice and both times I was very pleased. The staff was nice and attentive. The food was very tasty and was prepared quickly. The prices are quite reasonable too. I will definitely make this place a regular stop.

For my first visit I went into order some food to go, nobody was in the restaurant at all. I looked at the menu and decided what I wanted. I went up to the counter to order and a gentleman walked in behind me, he was white & I’m black…

The man came back to the counter and directly spoke to the man behind me, asked him if he came to pick up something and the man said yes and then he called the man ahead of me (even though I was standing at the counter) to take care of him.

I turned around and left, I didn’t know there was room for racism in Thai cuisine. I’ve never been treated like that at a Thai restaurant, I won’t be back. I heard that the food was really good and I definitely came to spend some money with you but I have no idea why somebody behind me would get preferred treatment.

You folks are racist.

First time trying this place, Don't waste your time or money! Phad Thai is a joke and the super dry chicken that was tough. Never had red phad thai either... Not a good place for GF options either. $18.95 for a small portion as well.

Don't waste your stomach room on Fast Food, come to Smile Thai Cuisine instead and they will serve ya fast and leave you sad because you don't have two stomachs because you can't have a second meal.

Never gets disappointed, whenever we come here. Always fresh food and cleanliness is super. We try their different dishes all the time and they all are really tasty. Pui our server was so hospitable and very polite and professional server. Very tasty and healthy soups.

Their food is DELICIOUS, you can tell that’s it’s all authentic and fresh made with good ingredients. I recommend eating in the restaurant because their service is fantastic. Every time we have eaten here the service has been on par with (or better than) restaurants 3x pricier.

Food was delicious, but if your table orders you expect for your whole table to be served together, not 1 plate here and there.

Make sure you check your order before you leave. They are quick to charge you for food yet when you call and ask they insist that it’s in there. I ordered crab wontons, orange chicken and green beans. All for right under 40 bucks. If you make a mistake OWN UP to it don’t lie and say you packed something when you clearly didn’t. I went in and there was no one in the restaurant so clearly they weren’t busy.

Smile Thai had me smiling by the end of the meal. Upon entry I was greeted by a bubbly lady with a big smile. The atmosphere was the typical Thai decor, with several Thai inspired pieces hung on the wall. I went with my usual fair for a new Thai place that I've never eaten at before. I had the yellow curry which was rich in flavor, the potatoes were cooked perfectly within the dish. I also had the chicken Pad Thai, which was delicious and had a slight sweet heat to it. The only downfall to note, is that they no longer have a lunch specials menu, which also means that all portions a big enough to share between two or three people.

Great place for curries! I absolutely love the panang and green curry. The panang curry is perfect for those who love spicy food! I love getting extra eggplant in the green curry. I’ve only had takeout and I look forward to the day I’m ready for dine in.

Delicious! I had red curry with tofu, I asked for it extra spicy and it really was. The atmosphere was nice as well are the service was good. We will absolutely be back.

Highly recommended for takeout or delivery. Their Tom Kha Gai soup is the best I’ve had in the Valley. Great selection of authentic Thai curries, as well as more Americanized dishes such as orange chicken. This is a small restaurant with a local proprietor whose pride in the meals they prepare deserves loyal patronage.

Smile Thai seemed to be on the sweeter side of Thai curry, but the flexor was delicious! Has the vegetable summer rolls, filled with avocado slides, of which I have not found at other places, and they were on point! The yellow Thai was my favorite, I would order multiple of that dish because you will want to eat it all! The Pad Thai was tasty, a little heavy on the sauce but I am happy with the fact that it wasn't over powered by peanut flavor, this place will not disappoint.

Visited today for the first time, blown away by the incredibly fresh and amazing flavors. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Orange chicken( I know I'm basic) was phenomenal. My son had the TomYum soup with tofu and said it to was incredible. Definitely coming back

I love Thai. And i search for Thai anywhere i live. Now, I have lived in sone major cities throughout the US. And after so many failures in food concept non-chain restaurants, it's given up hope on finding local cuisine. and as a true foodie, this can be devastating. But, SMILE THAI hits on all points. Mind you ive been coming here for 2 3/4 years as of today.

1. Food always fresh, self...is and seasoned to perfection. 2. the staff amazingly friendly and fast. 3. service, rhythmic and well paced. 4. cleanliness of bathrooms ALWAYS perfectly manicured.

I’m amazed how this place is still in business. The food was greasy and gross. The waitress/cashier charged us extra money for using “fresh crab meat” without letting me know during the order. The food was so grossed that I could taste the grease in my throat the next day. I would try other Thai places in town.

This is definitely our new favorite. Since moving to Tempe I've lost count of how many times we've been to Smile Thai. They're staff friendly, the atmosphere neat and tidy and the food excellent! We have never had issues finding a table here. We have also become obsessed with the Thailand Foodie Youtube channel they play regularly and love to watch what he eats throughout Thailand and other countries while enjoying our meal. Friends that have tried their Pad Thai have said it's not the best that they've had before and after a small taste, I have to agree. We are definitely regulars here.

LOW-CARB OPTIONS: Crying Tiger (no potatoes or rice), Avocado Curry with any meat (no rice)

I dined in a few weeks ago. Service was fast, friendly, and accommodating, even recommending item variations that were not on the menu.

Their curry is one of the best in town!

If you ever want to know how completely, royally and totally a simple to go order of Pad See Eew can get screwed up, then this is the place for you. Don't bother calling for a manager, they're never in.

The menu was also inviting with select pictures of signature dishes. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend Smile Thai Cuisine to anyone!

The restaurant itself is nice enough and the waitress was very friendly. But the food was underwhelming in flavor, especially in terms of spice (order at least one star spicier than you usually would). Order was gotten a little wrong but nothing drastic. I'm not terribly familiar with the Tempe area but I'm certain there are better options to be had

I ordered takeout and the food just didn’t taste fresh. The sauces seemed really watered down. I had to add flavor to the curry. Really disappointing. I’ve had way better Thai food elsewhere.

Potstickers are great! Good is hot, but not spicy when ordered that way. Staff is very nice and attentive

The curries are delicious. Yum Yum Yum! Some of the best I've had in the valley. Soup with lunch special had good flavor. Really good fresh food. Staff is nice and friendly. Atmosphere is clean comfortable and softly lit which is nice. Candles.
