My wife surprised me and took me to this place. From the side, it looks like a semi rundown house.But when you go in, it's bigger on the inside, service was pretty good. You can tell this is a mom and pop shop that is quite literally a hole in the wall, we were fortunate to be sat down right away.It was after the lunch rush. We got pad thai and another pasta dish. The portions did not disappoint. The flavors were good and had great contrast between the meats and the pastas.

Driving by and looking for something to eat, we came across this Thai food with high reviews,so we decided to check it out.
The place is very small and very few tables, so I can not imagine the wait times when they are busy. Service was ok, but took a while and some items got missed by our waiter. Food was amazing and tasty, the crab puffs we got were a bit crunchy and IMO burnt. But the rest of the food was fantastic.

The food was amazing! The restaurant was full!!! The staff was attentive but not impressive. The reason for a 4 instead of 5 was after the food was served and up and until we left the building, the wait staff was largely absent. We had to get our own takeout box and she did not come and thank us for being there.

Tiny spot looks a like the building has been there for a very long time. I went inside and was blown away they are super friendly and they had good music/decor and the food was super yummy and it hit the spot after a long day. Must try is the fried banana!

This place was a hidden gem. The lunch special for $8.95 came with a spring roll, a cup of soup and choice of entree. We had three different items and all were amazing!! The service was fantastic and the food was fresh and made to order

Do NOT be alarmed by the outside. The people inside are so friendly, they were very attentive and quick. Food was GREAT! We got the pot stickers, crab puffs and pad thai. This place is cheap but the food quality is not. If you love thai as much as we do stop in you wont regret it!!

A funky little place with excellent food and very friendly staff. We had the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp, Tom Kah, and fried spring rolls, with fried bananas and ice cream for dessert. Everything was wonderful! I will definitely be back every time I come to Phoenix.

Best Yellow curry and Pad Thai

We showed up at 7:45 pm and were told they were done. I work in service and dislike it when you have a posted close time but won’t honor it. They could have done a to go order for us.

I've Ben here twice, both times absolutely blown away. Beautiful little hole in the wall establishment. People working extremely hard. Putting out absolutely delicious thai food. Packed full of flavor and generously portioned. Chicken pad thai and chicken satay skewer were absolutely on point. Tried a thai tea for the first time and wish i would have gotten 4 more.. I live in apache junction and am willing to make the drive all the way to this location for thai food from Now on

Gourmets and working cooks have patronized this little place for many years, it's a Phoenix icon.
Spectacular food, but it's in a very run down house in a very run down part of town so this isn't a place you'd want to take a first date. But once you've found out she's a gourmet, not only can you bring her here, she might have even recommended it to you.

My advice is to put aside your prejudice about how the building looks and open your mind to the rave reviews from people who only care about the tastes, textures and aromas of some of the best Thai food in the valley

Picked this place based on the high reviews. Had a little different of an experience summarized by: "eh it's okay".
Upon driving up we had to double check that we were at the right place as it was so run down. When we went inside that didn't change. Unfortunately the inside is so dingy. I don't care if a place has dated decor, but this was different. Windows were cloudy and fogged. Every windowsill and shelf-type surface had a heavy layer of dust. The napkin my utensils came in was dirty and oily. The bathroom was dirty, the door had to be forced closed, and the sink was falling off of the wall.
Additionally, staff would do things like tie their shoes then touch the sauce or insides of the cups etc.
Ordered a Thai coffee, chicken satay, pad see ew, and drunken noodles. Coffee was super syrupy and artificial. Chicken satay was dry. Both noodle dishes were fine but more bland than usual at other restaurants.
Overall just not impressed, not quite sure where the ratings come from but glad that others have had better experiences!

The absolute best Thai spot I’ve ever been too lived in Cali for 12 years they got some good spots over there but this takes the cake. There’s not much I can say except flavor carpet bomb. Forget best Thai food best food you could ever eat in your life they should get a Michelin star. Young guy Alan upfront is an absolute g treats you like family no fake customer service voice/treatment this guy is just a good genuine soul that’s passionate. My server Pui was amazing aswell same thing goes for her super amazing people.

Went during lunch time on a Friday, and it was definitely popping.
The service was quick and efficient. Many regulars were coming in and were greeted with warm familiarity.
I’m a huge Thai food fan, and love to try Thai food in new cities.

Once you’re seated, they give you a cabbage soup which was yum.
My meal came within in 10min of me ordering it.
I ordered the salad roll, coconut shrimp, and mixed vegetables with beef spice level hot. The food was ok, and the service was great.

Most delicious Thai food I have ever had. I have traveled around the world, especially Asia and this is by far the best I have ever had.

Food was good. Service was also good. Had pad thai noodles, garlic chicken, vegetable rolls, thai tea and iced tea. All the food was nice and tasted good. Service was good. Had went there for dinner and they have decorated the little place nicely.

We ordered Chicken wontons (4 out of 5 felt lil oily), Spicy basil fried rice (5 on 5 it was great), garlic sauce with chicken (2 on 5 not great at all).
They were so sweet that they gave their banana fried ice cream as complimentary desert🥹. Must visit to try a new place and food.

Awesome place, just like the rest of the reviews don’t judge it from the outside. My wife and I LOVE Asian food of all kinds so we were searching for a good Thai place. The younger guy that greeted us at the counter was part of the family, kind of a manager. Super nice guy, very accommodating, offered waters when it was 112 degrees outside, super cool. Their food is authentic, not like a lot of places you will go to, best pad Thai we have had, really good wonton soup, to die for mango sticky rice. By far the best Thai place we have been too, and all of their workers are super welcoming and care about your experience. Do yourself a favor and visit this place if you like Thai food.

After hearing about how good Chanpen Thai was I was able to go for lunch the other day and expectations were met! The food was a large portion that came with sides and a soup to start the meal off. The price was also fantastic for the quality/amount of food. I will be going here for lunch many more times!! 9/10

The customer service here was incredible and probably the best I’ve had in years! They gave me a free water bottle on a hot day when I had a 3 hour drive ahead of me. They loaded my bag up with water extra utensils and sauces without me asking. The person at the register had the best energy and vibes. And the food??? Great portions, affordable, and AMAZING. It was so good! The next I’m in Phoenix, I’ll be stopping through again.

Drunken noodles 🤩

I would give Chanpen six stars if I could, because this place is, hands down, the best restaurant in Phoenix. Everything on the menu is spectacular, and the service is usually fantastic. In addition to having some of the most authentic Thai food in the city, the portion sizes are generous, and the menu is pretty extensive.

As a caveat though, the parking situation outside the restaurant is not particularly great, and the restaurant itself is pretty small, so preparing yourself for a wait or ordering takeout is probably the way to go on most days.

The food makes it all worth it though. Go right now. You deserve it.

Okay I've eaten at many places in Phoenix this is absolutely probably one of my most favorites It's yummy I will be back And everybody it's worth a drive to come down it is small it is quaint but the food is absolutely delicious And I love being able to set in the dining room and hear the ladies in the back in the kitchen cooking It reminds me of being on the street in Thailand and the women and the people cooking.

The food is inexpensive, and the red curry I got was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. This place is well worth a visit.

Best Thai in the valley, and we've been going for years. It's a hidden gem, hole-in-the-wall, treat that you won't regret. The building is falling apart, but the decor is authentic and I don't believe they could be any more efficient with the space they have.

Every dish we've tried has been delicious and we're looking forward to going back again soon.

They only need to come up with a system that assures employees that we're familiar with the levels of heat available and truly want the higher levels. The consistency is all over the place.

I sat in the restaurant and had the green papya salad, e san sausage and sticky rice. It was unbelievably delicious! The papya salad was so flavorful; it tasted just like I remembered from my trip to southeast Asia.

If you are driving there watch closely, it's a very small building and easy to drive right past. It is so worth the trip to get here for a meal if you are ANYWHERE in the Phoenix area!

This place is a treasure to have in the PHX valley, I had moved back to AZ after some time away. Most recently Oahu, Chanpen is better then where I was getting my thai food in HI. Everything I have tried has been delicious. Very humble location, packing some serious flavor. The service is impeccable too.
