Nestled in the heart of Brown Deer, we serve up Thai food that uses generations' old recipes in a vibrant and cozy setting. We used the restaurant as an opportunity to implement sustainability, fresh ingredients and local growers in an affordable, family-friendly restaurant. To never compromise on spices or ingredients, ensuring the best flavors around.
This place was really cute. We ordered chicken wings, spring rolls, spicy basil fried rice, drunken man noodles, Thai iced tea, Thai limeade and brown sugar boba tea. Everything was really good. The food was hot and fresh. The service was fine. Our only complaints were that the Thai tea was more milky than we’re used to. It didn’t have a strong tea flavor. Also, they charged us 75 cents for NO ice in the boba tea. Why would you charge someone for that?! And not inform us there would be a charge??? Aside from that, we enjoyed our meal.
This place is so good! I used to live in the area, but moved a little further away a couple years ago. I've always supported this restaurant when I lived in this area, because it's one of the few restaurants worth eating at in that area, especially for an Asian restaurant. I went back with a couple of friends for the first time since moving, & it's still so good!
We had the Weeping Tiger, Pad Thai, Pad See Ewe, Waterfall Beef Salad, Laarb, Pork Skewers, Papaya Salad, & Larb meatballs. We spent about $160, which is on the high end imo.
The weeping tiger was really good along with the dipping sauce. The steak was really well seasoned & charred. Wish the piece of steak was bigger though.
The Pad Thai was good. I'm a bigger fan of Pad See Ewe though, & theirs is great as well, a must-order everytime I go. The portions of their Pad Thai & Pad See Ewe is really good.
The Waterfall Beef Salad is also a must-order everytime I go. I love this dish. My only complaint is that the portion is very small, I usually would order two whenever I go, & it's still very little if you're sharing.
The Laarb was pretty good. Small portions though.
The Pork Skewers were okay, not something I would care to order, but I just ordered it because we needed more meat dishes. So I had to choose between that or the chicken satay skewers.
The papaya salad is Thai style, which is not my preferred style. But it's still good if you like Thai style. The portions are small as well though. Also, we asked for Lao style, but it did not seem like Lao style. I see on one of their reviews, another person had the same issue asking for Lao style. Maybe our understanding & the restaurant's understanding of Lao style papaya is different? But from my experience, Lao Style is darker & they use padaek.
Prior to going I checked out their menu to see what I wanted, & saw this dish called Larb Meatballs, which I thought was interesting. I've never heard of it before. Once we got to the restaurant, this dish was not on the menu, but I asked them about it since it's on their website, & they said that they can make it. I thought it was pretty good, I would definitely order it again. I just wished the portions were bigger too though, more than 4 meatballs.
I think overall, this place has really good food. Other things that I've had in the past that was really good was the Duck Curry (really good), the Crispy Squid, Chicken Wings, Volcano Chicken, & their fried rice is good. They also give you level of spiciness options. I'm Asian and medium (their 2nd level) was pretty spicy already lol.
My biggest complaint about this place is, their prices are very high & their portions for most of their dishes are very small, mostly their meat dishes. Like the portions on the Pad Thai & Pad See Ewe is fine, but everything else I've had is small, which is why for stuff like the Waterfall Beef Salad, I would always order two. One time we got the beef brisket dish, & it was like $25 for two small pieces of brisket. Me & each of my friends probably got like one small bite only. As I mentioned, we spent over $160, & that's a lot for small portions imo. That's why I had to add appetizers like the pork skewers, so we'd have more meat to eat, & adding from the appetizer list is cheaper. When you compare the price & portions to other Thai places in town, it's a big difference. Before going, I even contemplated, because I was looking at menus from other places, & we would've spent less but gotten bigger portions elsewhere. Sweet Basil in Franklin was where I debated on going to instead, because I've been there before & it's good too. Over there they have a few Family Platters that range between $36-$39. Two of those platters probably would've been more food than we got at Appethai & at just half the price we paid.
I love Appethai though, their food is really good. Might be the only good Thai restaurant on Milwaukee's Northside. But I just always wished their portions were bigger, especially for the prices.
Ordered takeout and the restaurant said it would be ready by 6:47pm. Waited at the restaurant for another hour. There were people who ordered their food before mine and were still waiting. They need to turnoff their takeout order option when their kitchen is getting too backed up. They also need to be issuing refunds to everyone who waited 30 minutes or more. This is the third and final time we will be ordering from here. First try, order was given to the wrong person. Second try, the order was missing food that was paid for. Now this time, the food took over an hour from the pick up time. The food is good but this will be the last time ordering from here.
I ordered the cashew stir fry online to-go which was really easy and it was ready and waiting when I got there. The food was pretty good and you get a decent sized portion of food, but fair warning, their spices are HOT. I ordered mine mild+ (a step up from mild, no spice) hoping it would give it just enough spice to not be bland. Whew, any spicier and I don't think I could've eaten it. Can't imagine what the next three levels of spice are like. 😳
My only other complaint was that the food was a bit pricey. The dining hall looked nice so maybe had I dined in it would've felt more worth it, but just getting a to-go box felt like I was getting ripped off. Maybe I'll go back and try their lunch specials.

The Thai food always hits the spot here. We love coming back time and time again. The convenience of online ordering is perfect for those days in and the lovely ambiance makes it an ideal place for dining out. We appreciate it all - thank you Appe Thai!
My fiance and I met at AppeThai for our first date! It was and still is both our favorite Thai restaurant—you simply can’t beat the food. We go frequently and the staff remember us each time and our favorite things to order. We also go on our anniversary each year, and we call ahead to get the same table we had for our first date. They always accommodate that, and they have left red roses on the table for us for the occasion. The team goes above and beyond for customer service and the food and drinks are AMAZING on top of it! Our favorites are the pad horapa, the red curry, the pad Thai, moo ping appetizer, spring rolls, and the drunk man noodles. The mai tai cocktails are delicious too! We will be loyal customers for life.
I've been thrice. It's been disappointing all three times. I'm glad people love it. That's great for them. I'll never be back. I had the pad Thai all three times and the last time, I had Boba tea as well. And that was awful too.
Service and atmosphere are fine. It was the food that I couldn't stomach. And I love Thai food. But three times they made my food poorly. That's too many times.
The Thai food standard in the region. EVERY item on the menu hits. Never disappointed; wildly consistent; affordable; wins all around.
The food was fantastic! The service was some of the worst I’ve seen. We had a table of eight. Most of us waited for more than an hour for our food without any explanation or apology. Also, some of the food came 30 to 45 minutes before others. Again, no explanation or apology. We truly felt like we were being ignored most of the time.
Although the food was fantastic, we will not be going back again because the poor service made it a poor experience. And because we were a table of eight, there was a 20% gratuity included in the bill, so we couldn’t even give a lower tip.
Awesome Thai food and friendly staff. Our new favorite. Sea bass special was outstanding and excellent Pad Thai. Very good value for the money!
Curry is sooooo good!
Food is outstanding!! Had the whole fried fish, Three different curry dishes, and appetizers! I never mind paying a premium for great food and service so don’t let the prices scare you! It was well worth every penny and I will be back soon with more friends..
I started with the Tom kha Gai (chicken) soup and a Mai thai to drink. The soup was very good with plenty of galanga flavor, mushrooms and chicken. The Mai Thai was not a traders Vic's classic but a sweeter version that paired well with spicy food. For the main I ordered Pad Thai chicken at the hottest level and it was pleasant, with a nice burn and had a great smokey flavor that you can only get from a really hot wok. The portion size was very generous and unfortunately I couldn't take to leftovers since I was traveling. It was one of the best pad this I have had in a while. I will be back again!
We've been to Thailand several times. This is like the food you get in Thailand. Delicious! Food is fresha and tasty. Staff are nice. We live an hour from here now but still drive to gave dinner because it is so good.
Tom yum was warmed up, not even hot. It was not tasty. Staff very good
We were 4 at the table ordered veg fried rice and green curry and pad see. Everything tasted oily and horrible, we would have overlooked it but the 2 of the servers were extremely rude and snappy
My husband and I will not be patronising this restaurant any more, our friends felt tge same way
Great food and great staff.

I stopped in to order takeout and they said they only take orders online that charges a $3.00 additional service fee. Three women behind the counter and she said it's because they don't have the staff to take my order. Went elsewhere for dinner.
I cannot believe I have not reviewed this little gem! I've been ordering from here for years and every time they are consistently excellent!
It’s always the best I’ve ever had.
Can’t wait to come back.
Very Authentic cuisines and very friendly
Great food, very fresh. However, portions are rather small for the price. I don't know that I would return, based on price alone.
Best Thai around. It's locally owned so the hours will take time getting used to, but well worth the effort. Take care with the spice levels. The we dare you section is no joke. Even as someone whose always preferred spicier than most I had trouble finishing the would boar. Make sure to check their website for the current correct hours not just Google.
Very good. Will eat here again.
Every ingredient was so fresh and yet packed with great flavors! The spring rolls were amazing!
We got our dinner to-go and was probably the best Tom Yum soup I've ever had. Their food tastes fresh, cooked perfectly, and feels healthier than average Thai restaurants. Will be dining in soon.
Had lunch with my daughter. Yummy food. Nice atmosphere and great staff.
Went here for lunch - pretty solid food. Nothing amazing, definitely not bad, though. I'm a little disappointed it wasn't better considering the cost, but all in all an enjoyable lunch. Service was great!
Love this place. The best 👌
Knock your socks off Thai, seriously it's that good.
Seriously when I order takeout, why do they always forgot my rice?
Ordered the Pad Thai for pickup, it was ready prior to my order time, and when I arrived at the location the person at the front was going out of their way to assist another customer with small children, helping bring food out to their car. Thought it was terrific customer service. The Pad Thai was well made and I'll be returning on my next trip to town.
Finally ate here after living in the area for a few years and I was blown away!! Great drinks, the decorations and ambiance were so cozy and I had the BEST noodles.
I’m honestly sad we haven’t tried it sooner. Great service too.
Excellent food. Great service.
Honestly guys…I want to like this place, but...This was our third time ordering takeout and it is just SO expensive for the quality. $100 of takeout and the food was lukewarm, noodles were mushy, not much flavor aside from spice. The dumplings had far more dough than they had filling. It took about 60 minutes for them to make the food after I ordered, and then another 20 minutes waiting at the counter to pick it up. Overall, the meal was super disappointing to be spending that much money. The staff is very kind, but we won’t be coming here again.
I have ordered here at least a dozen times. The food is fantastic. My favorites are the Curry Fried Rice, Tom Kha, and the Pad See Ewe. It is on the pricy side but the portions are large so it's worth it. 10/10
Food was good and flavorful, however the portions are quite small. Not sure I'd return due to the portion size & pricing.
The timing on the website doesn’t match what is listed . Went at 1:30 pm and they declined . It seems the last dine is at 1:15 pm. Not good and please update your website . I even asked them if I can get a take away and sit and the waiting area : I have not seen such rude comments .
Cute place that was clean and had lots of natural light.
Food was a little salty for me but flavor was amazing! Definitely would go back!
This was my first time dinning in at AppeThai. It was refreshing to see such a well ran small business. I got the pot stickers and the crispy chicken volcano. Both of which were prepared fast and were delicious. May was my server and was wonderful. I will be back in soon.
We read some good reviews so decided to try this place. My wife and I were thrilled that we did. The food was excellent and our server was very friendly and polite. Overall it was a great experience, and we will definitely come back.
Perhaps I selected the wrong meal and I didn’t like it.
The service is excellent and the atmosphere is very good.
Great food and service! I'll be back!
Love their pad thai!
Delicious food, love the atmosphere!
Panang curry was not special. Maybe the other food items are good
Absolutely delicious. Very clean space as well.
Awesome Thai food!
Best Thai place in town! Absolutely delicious. Dine in and takeout are both viable options, but if you have the time definitely dine in.
Let me start by saying that I love Thai food, but I hate when restaurants say they are Thai, but they are really Chinese food with like five curry items on the menu. Appethai is not that! The food is exceptional. The atmosphere is great and bright (sometimes it smells a lot like cleaning product - But I'd rather that than the alternative of it being dirty). They have a full bar-Yay, great for date night. Food is rich with flavor and super duper spicy. I love spicy food so it's perfect for me! If you don't love spice you just have to let them know because even their dishes that they call medium are still pretty hot. Yum. My only complaint is that they open late in the day and I wish I could go there for lunch. Highly recommend.
The food was delicious, the server was wonderful and provided a great recommendation.
Amazing food. Great service too!
Great place ....clean restaurant....nice friendly staff...but honestly the food was not as good as I expected it. Its not worth it . Small very small portion for the money but the service is good.
Great food and service.
We read the reviews and decided to try this restaurant. Although only two tables were occupied, the waitress made us wait and informed us that all tables were taken, and disrespectful. But there is nobody there wait on the line, and it is more than 6 tabless all empty(see the pictures is no one there). I usually share every restaurant and the foods that I visit and try, and recommendations the good place. But this just feels rude!! We won't go there anymore.
Food was exceptional good. 👌
Not worth $9 for this papaya salad. I paid $1 extra for the Laos style. I called and owner stated that they portions everything. Not worth my money and not ordering again. 😒
The best Thai restaurant in Milwaukee
Best food ever
This is a great place for lunch, especially if you need to have a meeting or quiet place to talk. Even when it is busy, the ambient noise stays low.
The food was mediocre, staff was not friendly
OMGGGGG
so i am new to the area and decided i wanna try this place out and am soooo happy that i did! i get there and the place is popping so i figured it must be good, went in to place the order but due to short staff they have you order online which i did and they have a cute little waiting area for you to do so if needed - prices were reasonable with today's cost and staff was very friendly (major plus).
I was not sure what to order, so i went with the Curry fried rice with chicken (amaaazing) and paired it with some meat apps (satay chicken, meatballs and the charred steak) HOLY MOLY - that is now my new dish! I wish i had pics but there was no time the foods scent called me to eat it up and forget the camera! i will be back and so glad i decided to stop in!
BRAVA!
The food never fails to impress, hospitality is great, and overall a wonderful experience. Would recommend to everyone.
The Tom Yum soup was served was very tasty. My Yellow Curry dish was very good, but was full of 42 pearl onions and was very overkill. I put them out on the side.. for my own entertainment. It took up most of the space in my meal. I let the server know about the space taken up by onions and they agreed.
The ribeye was tender with good flavor. Green curry was great for the spice level and taste. Pad Thai was a good presentation.
worst service i’ve ever had, super rude. food was mid
The hostess and servers were very nice and very attentive even though it was very busy. The food was fantastic, I got crab rangoon, it was really great and then tried their Pad Thai. It was the best Pad Thai I have ever had! I am definitely going back to try more of their menue! I had a "Mai Tai" cocktail and tried the coconut juice.
The staff/owner was very rude when I ordered a Thai coffee when I tried to explain to her about the coffee was very strong she then told me that they don't do refunds I explain to her that I didn't want a refund I just wanted her to fix my drink. She was a very rude and prejudice person to the black customers but she very nice and smiling to her white customers.
1/12/2023
My Respond to the Respond from the owner. The problem was not resolved I didn't even drink the Thai coffee that my daughter had paid $9.00 for both I was not asking for a refund I only wanted a different drink and you're respond was to me was you don't give refunds but you don't have it posted anywhere in your store and I feel that is bad customer service on your part as an owner to treat a customer the way you treated me and my daughter after we paid our money for the drinks I feel that if I'm paying for something I expect to get my money's worth for the service I paid for and yes I felt that I was treated very unfairly because we are african american and your other customers were white and when I told you about your service and I said I would not be back and I would be leaving a review you told me ok good do whatever you want.
Tasty and good service, the hot had some actual heat to it, which is a bonus
This place is a 10/10 great food great service
Excellent Thai food!
food is very good for me but too prices
Very good authentic Thai restaurant.
Amazing lunch and best crab rangoon I've ever had.
Terrible experience here. Rude, very Rude employees. Staff not clean. Do not waste your money! If i could give zero stars I would. Save your money and go else where. I will be reporting this place to the BBB.
Nice place. Great curry dishes. Clean. A good place for a business lunch. Prices are reasonable.
Dinner was delicious, we had a new server so service was okay, she tried hard, just needs a little more practice!
We like this place! Staff are friendly. Food is very good. We get a soup and a main. Always plenty to take home. Prices are most reasonable. 5 levels of spice heat, so any palate can find a comfy level. I like level 3 for soup and 2 for the main.
Been at this restaurant three times and always I ordered their rotisserie chicken. It cooked very well and taste delicious. Staff very friendly and service so fast. One of my best Thai restaurants so far, every time I am traveling to Wisconsin I visit this restaurant.
Ordered Volcano chicken, it was pretty good, service was friendly and efficient.
Disclaimer: I grew up with Laos, not Thai, but this food is awesome! Absolutely delicious, and their hot means actually hot, not pretending to be hot for suburban white people.
Volcano Chicken is amazing 🔥🔥
Incredible food!! Have been coming here for years. My all time favorite - Tom kha soup. Padt Thai is fantastic, crab rangoon, fresh roll bites and we love the Thai iced tea. my only recommendation - don’t order it spicy! I love spicy food and prefer my food spicy but even at their lowest spice level (medium) you can’t eat much without your mouth being on absolute fire. But so tasty that you just keep eating anyway.
Pad thai with chicken and extra vegetables. Delightful!
Was really impressed with the quality consistency of all of our meals. The wives loved the mixed drinks.
Probably the best Thai place in and around Milwaukee! Menu is a bit Cha ching on the wallet but quality of the food is great! I am a home chef myself and I appreciate the quality. Finally some decent Thai food in town. Order some noodles and got the best dish ever. Friends ordered some fried rice and Thai red curry. Fried rice was fantastic but there were quite a lot of bamboo shoots in the red curry.
Loved this. Great tea, excellent food and the service was perfect. Honestly just a nice place to spend an hour or so
Service was great. Food wonderful. Would definitely go back. We had party of 8 and everyone enjoyed the experience.
We ordered their rib eye steak, called "Weeping Tiger" as carryout. The food was excellent and very flavorful. I really loved the food. But the reason I have to mark it down to a 3-star is accessibility. I am handicapped. I have a lot of trouble with curbs and steps. There is no handicap-accessible ramps and I had to ask a stranger for help up the steep curb. The ENTIRE block of businesses, from the UPS store to the AppeThai has NO curb ramps. I use a cane, but if you are in a wheelchair, forget about ever getting into any of these businesses. It is not Americans-with-Disabilities-Act friendly.
The food is outstanding, which is definitely acknowledged by the greater area, so you will wait a bit for your takeout order to be ready. Absolutely worth it. Incredibly fresh ingredients, this place made me realize I was never having true authentic Thai food until now. You get what you pay for, be prepared to spend more than you likely have in the past for Thai food, you’ll forget that price once it hits your mouth though. Their Tom Kha soup might be the best thing I’ve literally ever tasted in my entire life. You will not be disappointed with this place.
Volcano chicken was great!
One of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten. The food is only second to the service from the kind staff and the amazing owner. My new favorite restaurant!
The food was good, portions are big. Price is on high end , but overall was nice atmosphere.
Food is good, recently had a terrible customer service experience and was asked to wait and pay more based on the restaurant’s error. There was no apology and the staff was very rude.
Not for me...
chicken fried rice (spicy/hot) here is worth every penny.
Great service, great food, nice and spicy
The food was spicy and delicious especially all the fried rice, we did not dine in as it was not allowed on that day so we opted take out, would definitely recommend people looking for proper Thai food
My favorite Thai restaurant in the city. Go there immediately.
I was a little disappointed. I drove for 30 minutes for this place. I'm on a quest to find authentic Thai restaurants nearby. This place offers menu that other thai restaurants don't so I thought this is the place. I got chicken rice, it's one of the most common street food in Thailand. The food is okay but it really missed the aroma of the broth rice. And the chicken is almost felt like pre-made fried chicken from a box. The rice and chicken proportion is also not balance. For $16 bucks, I expected much more chicken than rice. We also order noodle dish, it, once again, okay. But most importantly, I was shocked that the peanuts on top was not roasted. When I live in Thailand, there's not a single dish with peanuts that the nuts weren't roasted. It's a minor detail but still said a lot about the place. I bet this is a decent place to have a quick bite. But for what I expected, which is a delicious (for my thai taste buds at least) authentic thai restaurant, this place is not it. You should try it nonetheless, and see if you like it. Please support your local businesses.
Food is good but service is horrible. Got hung up on and told they will not take my order because it's too complicated and that's why they make mistakes constantly on my order. Since when is ordering fried rice complicated. Smh Please let your customers order how they want their food! It could be for allergy reasons! I have NEVER been talked to or treated like this from any other business.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Milwaukee area! Amazing and delicious authentic Thai food. A myriad of vegetarian options, as well. My personal favorites are Basil Fried Rice and the Red Curry with Tofu. My advice is to start with mild/medium spicing, and work your way up to hot. Truly delicious Thai food!
Food was great as service was good. Would go back again.
One of my favorite lunch locations. The food and service are excellent .
best thai place in the milwaukee area- hands down!
I asked to make my salad mild instead of spicy. Instead, it was made so spicy that I couldn't eat it. Please listen to your customers.
Only had the potstickers. Need to come back and try other dishes.
I'm from out of town but I've been here twice and it always surpasses my expectations!!
I placed an online order for pickup. Food was ready right on time. I usually order the Red curry. This time I also ordered the Thai chicken wings. They were hot and delicious. As usual everyone was friendly
Excellent food everytime we feel like getting Thai.
I Love this place. Food and Service is great.
Excellent or dare I she amazing food. They seemed a little short staffed for as busy as they were. We had lettuce wraps and fresh roll bites for appetizer and green curry and shrimp salad for entrees.
Ate on the patio tonight. Great food, excellent service. Only slight gripe was it came too fast and we had appetizers and mains within an hour. They've done a nice job with their patio given it's location.
Have been looking for a place that served drunken noodles very good a bit too spicy. Chicken fried rice Excellent!!
Great food and great service! Enjoy coming here every week!
Best Thai around
Amazing!! The owner/chef has created some super flavorful recipes. Really reasonably priced. A definite must for my next trip through town!!!
Pretty nice
Good experience
Friendly service and great food. Who can ask for more?
I loved the food here. Food was delicious!! Definitely will be making a trip there again.
Best Chinese food ever " Banski"
Very nice staff, good food. Mild was a bit too hot for my taste.
The food was really good!
Food was fantastic, but the scheduling of pickup needs work. Will give it another try
Very impressed with our take out from Appethai. Such a treat. A good friend recommended this restaurant as well as guided us with her favorite picks off the menu. Our order included papaya salad, spring rolls both fresh and fried, Tom Kha soup, pork fried rice and my favorite the Pepper Garlic Shrimp. Excellent quality and flavor was fresh and inspiring. I highly recommend takeout as they did a wonderful spread for us. Make sure you order the pepper shrimp and the Tom Kha. We are looking forward to enjoying their culinary talents again soon.
Good food but an American-Thai experience. Only 1 or 2 authentic Thai dishes. Not saying it is bad, just FYI if you are looking for a real authentic Thai restaurant.
We love this place. Small dining room but we always get takeout. Their spicy dishes are actually spicy m, everything we've ordered has been tasty, and service is good too.
Food is usually very good and authentic. Service is acceptable and they are open for dine-in with restrictions. Temperature check, mask, and social distancing... I usually get Chicken Pad Thai, or Pad Saew and other appetizers. Price is a little bit on the higher side but the portion is on the smaller side, compared to your usual Milwaukee Thai restaurant. They are a little bit more on the fine dining side so I suppose you're paying for the experience.
Customer service was terrible. The waitress was pretty rude and impolite. I clearly told her what I need and when they brought the food out for us, it wasn't what I ordered. I asked her and she said she already confirmed to me and she told me “Oh, maybe my ears have a problem!”. Then she turned around and walked straight back to the kitchen and didn’t let us say anything. That was horrible and we will not come back again!!
The yellow curry is amazing.
The best ! Awesome fresh food-
Delicious. If you're new to thai food and enjoy peanut sauce get pad Thai. If you like gummy yummy noodles get pad see yeu.
