Silk Thai Cafe is a one-of-a-kind restaurant for Thai cuisine. From the way we value the highest quality ingredients and take pride in our expert layering of Thai flavors, to just treating you with friendly and attentive service, Silk Thai Cafe is Tacoma’s best Thai food restaurant. As soon as you walk in, the authentic decor and soothing aromatic spices will make you feel instantly relaxed. Our menu includes award-winning omnivorous, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free (even for Celiac) options to accommodate all patrons. Our restaurant delivers a cut above the rest, that little something special… we call it love.
Really good food and the atmosphere in the back dining area was enchanting (nope, not exaggerating). Staff was appropriate with just the right amount of attention (they anticipated our needs, gave great customer service, but they weren't overbearing or overly interruptive). I had no idea I would love this place so much!
I don't typically comment much on decor but this restaurant has some notably beautiful decor and ambiance that is extremely unique and lends to a romantic and upscale experience.
The food is prepared and served expertly and at a great price-point. It's a good value, especially for lunch. Check out this great menu of options! Everything I've tried here is solidly delicious.
Atmosphere was lovely, service was friendly even though they were really busy they were attentive and nice, and the food was so good. Great prices for how good everything was too. The Bangkok spicy noodles are delicious
Great food, nice ambiance and great service we have never been disappointed. My husband and I shared the fresh spring rolls with chicken and peanut sauce then red curry with duck pineapple mushrooms and tomatoes over rice. The duck was so tender and the curry was delicious with just the right spice. Dessert was Pandan custard over sticky milk and covered with coconut milk. Suki the owner works in the kitchen too, we have been going there since 2003 and just love her food!
This is by far my favorite Thai restaurant in Tacoma, Three of us always share the same thing. Red curry with tofu, fried tofu, and fresh salad rolls with tofu. We also get sides of sticky rice and brown rice and I will not leave there without a glass of coconut sake.
Their service is impeccable. I think they are training a couple of new people because tonight was a little off, but we've been so many times with no problems, so I'm sure that will iron itself out very quickly.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant with great service. The owner (I believe) greeted me, sat me, and took my order. The crab pad Thai was huge with large chunks of real crab. It was great but a little more sweet than I prefer. The chicken satay was delish and the black rice pudding was phenomenal. I would return.
This was my first time here, takeout. The inside is beautiful!! Great atmosphere!!
Called on Friday night at 6:30 pm , place an order for cashew chicken and a scoop of rice. They said 30 min. I arrived and gathered at the entry was a group of 4 people, a group of 2 , and myself.
I assumed since no one’ was helping anyone the other people had been greeted and were just waiting for their food and table. What like 5 min someone addressed the group of 4 as they hadn’t been helped. Finally took them into the dining area and sat. After another 5 min the 2 top group was helped and seated. Now understand the place was busy, phone non stop ringing, bagging food, etc. However , a simple acknowledgement and “I’ll be right with you” goes a long way. You don’t ignore people for that long!! I had noticed a bag sitting in the window early on , turned out to be my food. It there ready for at least 10 min the whole time I stood there!
My total for cashew chicken and a small thing of jasmine rice was $18.12. I thought that was more than a fair price as the place down the road is $25.
TASTE- well let’s just saw it wasn’t good. It was the strangest cashew chicken I’ve ever had. It was extremely sweet. Like a sweet Marsala chicken. There was so much sauce it was like a soup. It was gross.
Please note my review is based only on one item. The service was bad , the gentleman that took my order over the phone was very nice, as well as the gentleman that checked me out.
Would I return? I plan to go inside and try the satay chicken and peanut sauce, if they can’t do that well than they have big problems!!
Wonderful place with a variety of food, noodles, curry, and rice dishes. The appetizers are delightful and the vegetables are always fresh. So delicious.
The food I had was good, their website says allergy friendly, but the menu is not marked, and the server was completely unhelpful. Maybe I just had the wrong server. When I asked about a certain dish, she recommended I pick something else if I'm concerned about allergens.
Such a nice spot with a great ambience. The food is fairly priced, delicious, and great service.
Great food and good service every time!! The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very chill, highly recommend
Best Thai food in Tacoma...

Go to Loak Toung Thai for cheaper, bigger portions, better service, and more value for your money.
Came in to dine and the server proceeded to serve other customers, ignore me while attending to other tables. The server isn’t the problem though. How is the restaurant only gonna have one server during peak times. There’s already several other complaints about long waits(which isn’t always the servers fault) but this place refuses to hire more servers. Left without eating.
Yum...yum....yummy....still asking delicious as the first time I went
I had a very spicy soup.
Five star even though we had a long delay getting our food, it was worth the wait and they comped the meal! Great atmosphere filled with Asian art!
The food here is amazing

Great food and service. Prices are very reasonable

This place is consistently good. Some of our favorites have been the duck curry, pad see ew, pad Thai (best so far in the South Sound), Thai style short ribs, and Bangkok spicy noodles (note: these noodles were NOT spicy and our toddler loved them, but the consistency breaks down as leftovers). The other items have had accurate descriptions and have been to our specified spice levels.
So good! One of the most beautiful rooms I have been in. Amazing food and friendly staff.
Best Thai food in Tacoma. Family business with great service. Give it a try.
Great food and cool atmosphere.
We were entertaining friends from Austin. We ordered take out to be ready at 5:45. We arrived only to be told it would be another 30 minutes. The food was unappealing and sloppy. Not one of the dishes had clear bright flavors. The dumplings were overcooked and crunchy. Oily was the impression of all and the single vegetarian dish was obviously cooked in a pan that wasn't clean and had small bits of chicken in it. No one ate more than half of their dish. This was a total fail. First and last visit and a waste of $106.00. Sad 😔
Really good food and the atmosphere in the back dining area was enchanting (nope, not exaggerating). Staff was appropriate with just the right amount of attention (they anticipated our needs, gave great customer service, but they weren't overbearing or overly interruptive). Still fantastic. Get the crab fried. Rice for special treat.
The food just tasted off to me, they never came and took our orders for drinks, and it was hard to get their attention to order a drink so we never got to. It's super dark inside, which made it hard to read the menus
Best Thai food ever!!! My family and I have been going here for over 10 years and the food is always excellent!!!
Silk Thai is such a vibe with classic well made Thai dishes using the highest quality ingredients. I’ve been coming here for years and highly recommend any of the dishes; but especially their Massaman Curry, tofu spring rolls, bags of gold, and Pad See Ew with extra veggies. Great spot to go take the grandparents or a date. The inside is immaculately adorned with carved wood from Thailand. The staff are always so welcoming and perfectly attentive.
Great food, nice ambiance and great service we have never been disappointed. My husband and I shared the fresh spring rolls with chicken and peanut sauce then red curry with duck pineapple mushrooms and tomatoes over rice. This is our favorite Thai restaurant. It’s been rated the best in Tacoma for a reason! Their owner and chef take great care of their guests and the food is consistently delicious.
Was a long wait to be seated and then heard a waiter explaining that they were doing online orders. To me you need to take care of the people who are in your restaurant first for the most part. They didn’t even have all the tables filled and it was still over an hour.
Food came out hot and fresh but everything was so sweet. Servers were friendly and bathroom was clean. The vibe is dark and kinda overwhelming but that’s fine for some.
My lunch partner enjoyed it there, he said this is what he would expect to see on vacation!!!!!
We ordered it too go but it's a beautiful restaurant, and the people are so so nice !!
I had a steak salad and honestly it was the best I've had in YEARS !! The custard dessert was really great, the flavors were amazing !
The Royal Duck curry didn't have much duck, but the flavors were good and would still give it a try.
Next time I'm definitely getting the "bags of gold" appetizer because they must be great since they had run out,lol
Fantastic dining experience. I was in a group of 4 and all of the dishes were excellent. Service is also great. It is a little pricey- but worth it!!!
Be aware. The price on their website menu is different than what you will get charged, about $2-3 more. I ordered 3 dishes. On their website, they were listed for 8.95, 12.95 and 11.95. I got charged for 10.95, 14.95 and 13.95. The explanation I got was the website was not updated. I told the guy at the front that it was not that I couldn’t afford it, just felt cheated and tricked. The guy threw me with “we are working on it” and walked away. No apologies nor thanks. Will NOT return again.
My best friend lives very close to here and they got us food from here and it was SO good. Man who took the order on phone was very nice. Unfortunately no idea about the atmosphere
Beautiful restaurant. Great food. Good portions. Reasonable price. Gotta try the Nibbler platter..delicious variety.
This restaurant has aced it! Delicious and fresh food with the right amount of spice, fairly unique and serene ambiance with candles and lights beautifully placed among Thai artifacts, and delightfully hospitable service. If you like Thai food, you've to try this place.
Thank you Chris and restaurant owner for the memorable dining experience!
Visiting from out of town and got takeout and everything was delicious! We loved the spicy chicken basil and Panang shrimp curry and teriyaki chicken. Ready promptly and friendly service- would recommend!
The Panang curry was AMAZING and so was the atmosphere. Unfortunately the Pad See Ew was super disappointing. Mushy noodles to the point I couldn’t eat it. I’d also recommend preparing the tofu by frying it or baking it instead of just chopping it and adding it in there. I got tofu in both of my dishes and if you eat tofu you’ll know that preparation style doesn’t do it any favors. The service was a bit slow but they seemed short staffed so it was understandable and not a big deal!! Overall I’d go again!
It's been about a year since our family was there last. Always enjoyed the food. Today we decided to go again since we where in Tacoma. This round was exceptionally excellent. The food was amazing. The whole family was raving about their plates. We will start crossing the Narrows more often just get some more Silk Thai.
Server was kind. The food was okay. Got a level 3 spice…it was whoopin my tail but other than that it was just average.
We've eaten here before and dined in, loved the atmosphere. This time was take out. Delicious food. Make sure to ask for rice.
1 of the best Thai restaurant that we came across, food is super delicious especially their ribs, pud kee mao and the half bbq chicken.
Absolutely my favorite Thai restaurant! The decor and ambiance is so special and the food is outstanding! I love the cashew chicken and wontons!
Their panang curry is like a party in my mouth and all the spices are invited.
Fairly inattentive, and the food was overly sweet. Phad Thai noodles so sweet they are inedible, ginger chicken dish with barely a hint of ginger, and once again, too sweet. A SIX DOLLAR Thai tea, that, you guessed it, was too sweet to consume. Nobody checked on us after dropping the meal, except to bring to go boxes. No questions about the untouched phad Thai, nothing. Overall, very disappointing.
This place USED TO be good. I would drive the 30 min across town to pick up some of their pineapple curry. The last two times I’ve picked up food the curry was watery AND under filled, and the pad thai was gummy, bland and gross. The quality of food has declined significantly and you’ll notice the health code sign on their door is rated as “Okay”. I agree, door sign, I agree. Me and my daughter will be finding a different Thai spot to eat, even though that one is 5 min from her house.
We drove all the way here, to find out they're take out only. These details are easy to update on your Google profile, and since so many people rely on Google, it's important that you do.
Very nice server, but very disappointing yellow curry. Extremely thin, the veggies were undercooked, the potato wasn't peeled, the tofu was pretty much raw...always support local businesses, but unfortunately disappointing here.
I've been coming here for years and it's hands down my favorite restaurant in Tacoma. I can't have dairy or gluten and I've never had any problems with eating here. The food is awesome and reasonably priced, you get a lot for what you pay for and it's delicious. The staff are also super nice.
The food is ok. Every time I get noodles there's a bunch stuck together and the sauce and flavor isn't evenly distributed. It's only ok.
No dine in phad thai dissatisfied sauce taste like ketchup eqc much better
SO GOOD for folks with Celiac. Designated gluten-free fryer, pretty much everything on the menu can be alleegen-safe. And the gluten-free crab rangoons and pot stickers are to die for!!!!
Pretty good food. As of 27 July 2022, only takeout. No dining in option. You can sit in the dog park just outside behind the restaurant and eat there if you want.
Our visit was met short staffed, and was not intending to have sit in diners. They very graciously seated my party of 3 as well as a separate party of 5, in addition to a party of 2 and additional party of 3 that were already seated and served. The food was exquisite. The hospitality that we received was top notch. I would definitely recommend choosing this establishment to feed you take out or sit in. The interior is very interesting and enough to draw in patrons alone, with the bonus being the flavorful and visually pleasing meals.
Best Curry in town by a long shot. Very thick and decadent! Would highly recommend!
Been going here for years! Always great vibes and great food 🙌🏾
Racist people sat me by the kitchen door when all I wanted was pineapple curry and helped everyone else before me left me sitting for almost an hr never came to get my order yet people that were sitting by me came in after me and had their orders taken....??? Better places in Tacoma by far!! I just left after telling them in my 46 years of living have I ever been treated like that!!
Love the name. The food is even better. I am not a Thai food expert, but I'd surely go back (for the 3rd time). There are so many restaurants to choose from sticking to 1 seems, well boring. But the silk Thai is anything but boring.
This place is beautiful.
It's take out only right now, which isn't clear on their website!
This place is absolutely a hidden gem in Tacoma! The food is affordable, always delicious, and the interior of the restaurant is super cool and nicely decorated. Unfortunately, they’re under-staffed right now so dine in isn’t available, but I cannot wait for them to re-open! It’s our next stop for date night! 10/10 would recommend!
The Thai BBQ chicken is delicious! Very flavorful with a little spice. I will definitely be getting the chicken again!
Great pad see ew and Thai fried rice!
Best Thai food in Tacoma. Consistently delicious.
Spectacular!
I ate here for the first time in mid March. I've eaten there every week since. It's that good. Consistently.
Excellent
So delicious, my favorite pad thai. The guy at the front counter is nice.
Great experience! I've always been successful with what I ordered at Silk Thai restaurant. Fresh spring rolls are #1 compared to others I've had from Thai restaurants. Thanks Silk Thai . . . Waiting for this restaurant to open. 🌿
Always enjoyed silk thai! I like the consistent food and service.
As always I enjoyed my pad thai and there lettuce wraps!
Great local Thai, wonderful family run restaurant! Spicy Grean Beans are an all time great!
Great Thai food and a varied, creative selection of options on the menu. Lots of vegetarian choices.
Best Thai food in Tacoma!!
best peanut sauce ever and the owners are great people!
Great food great prices
Good customer service but my pad Thai tastes like cleaning supplies? Weird
You guys helped make my wife and my anniversary tonight all that more special. As always the food was exceptional and we will always return to you for a great thai experience!
I ordered to go spring rolls, was unable to eat them, the packaging for them the box cardboard literally peeled off onto the roll making it inedible when taking out of the package.
I asked the guy who rang me up if the rolls came with peanut sauce, he said no.
Charged me over two dollars for a thing of sauce. I got back to work, the rolls came with the sauce and wasted my money.
The main dish was way too sweet for pad see ew.
The veggies were fresh, but undercooked. The noodles were just oh my gosh. Everything about the food I got was just wrong.
The aftertaste is terrible. It reminds me of the smell of nailpolish(?)
Would not recommend here to anyone. Especially for spending $25 here you would think that it would of been at least decent.
I almost wanna say I want my money back.
I mean, I couldn’t even eat the rolls I bought.
Not happy.
The food is delicious and plentiful
Very good food. So far it's the only thing restraunt I will eat at.
Love the team here. My go to for Thai food!
Love their food, always fresh and always good.
I had such great hopes for the meal after hearing good things and seeing how beautiful it looked inside, but the take out was tastless, greasy and honestly smelled like dirty handtowels. I will NEVER be back. Wild Orchid is 1000 times better.
In order the royal noodles today and i got some different noodles than the ones i useally got when i used to dine in. I did not like them. Dont get the royal noodles for now.
Good food, good portions
Beautiful little place with amazing fresh authentic Thai food. My first time being there and I will definitely be back! Great place for date night. The ambiance is perfect. Service was good too.
Panang curry is so amazing. This is my go to comfort food. Quick service at lunch time. Clean environment.
No other Thai place ever measures up to the red curry from silk. So delicious. Service is always friendly and prompt.
Very good, wait for a table a was a bit longer than expected, but the food made up for it
Great food and helpful staff. Our server gave us great recommendations!
It fills the void....nice atmosphere and love the woodwork.
Amazing!! Went there last night and it was the best Thai I've ever had!!
Always our favorite thai food
Second time here and was hoping the first time was just a blip. It was not. The food was the most disappointing thing about this place. I got the garlic chicken and the garlic was almost non-existent. The sauce seemed to be made by someone trying for the first time. Chicken itself was done surprisingly well. But that was it. Despite the bad food and the not so good service, the atmosphere was very lovely and unique.
Love this place, cozy atmosphere, lovely staff amazing food
Delicious. The Royal Duck Curry was amazing!!
Delicious. Fantastic. Large quantities. Good prices.
Great atmosphere, delicious flavors and friendly service.
Had the Red Curry it was great. Wish I had known that they charge separate for the rice.... Kinda a sly way of making extra cash. Just make your meal more expensive so people don't feel nickeled and dimed.
Love love love love love this restaurant, great decor, great staff and most importantly, GREAT FOOD!!!! I mean what more can you ask for? Go ahead and go, your taste buds will thank you.... And not too bad on the wallet either!
Wonderful food, gracious hosting, and Thai relics galore
I've been here many, many times with family and friends and it is always delicious. Very clean, fast, and friendly. The parking is always kind of a pain.
Wonderful!
Very accommodating of my dietary needs
This is a wonderful Thai place in 6th Ave in Tacoma. Spice levels are good and the food tastes fresh. It's not too expensive and the ambiance is stellar, peaceful, and serene. Highly recommended.
Still my favorite Thai! Yum! Yum!
The food was great and so was our server. Lots left for take home.
Best Thai food in North Tacoma
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Friendly service.
The food is always good!
Great ambience, always friendly staff. The food is always good.My favorite, yellow curry chicken
Service sucked lighting to low if you have bad eyes you can't read the menu
Great food and excellent service!
I need Thai food and the yellow curry is delicious!
Our favorite Thai place in Tacoma, the staff is friendly and the decor is on point, get the Pad See Ew
Overall food was not good. Ordered Bangkok boar was described as having coraiander but just tasted like pork teriyaki. Ordered royal duck curry was too sweet and pineapples do not add anything tot he dish are unnessary. Over food was too sweet and disappointing ... on the plus the ambiance was nice.
We just had dinner at Silk Thai Cafe and this was my first time eating Thai food! The food was really good, the service was definitely 5 star and the menu had a nice variety of choices. Our server was named Tram and she was very attentive, polite and prompt with our order. The ambiance in this cafe is perfect for both family and intimate dining. The owner Sukie is very sweet. I would definitely suggest trying the mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream for dessert!! I will definitely be returning for more!!
Beautiful restaurant, super nice staff, incredible food!
For most restaurants, the impetus for negative reviews is much greater than leaving positive reviews because when patrons are disgruntled they have an ax to grind & they want to vent. With that said, I've been going to the Silk Thai for 15+ years & have always been pleased with the cuisine quality/selection, the service & the atmosphere. Unfortunately, their modus operandi has taken a turn for the worse.
Last night some friends & I dined there & when a friend & I both ordered Mango Sticky Rice, we both requested extra coconut milk, as many places don't give enough unless you ask for more. Upon receiving our desserts, we noticed there was actually LESS than typical. I looked @ the waitress & facetiously stated, "Hey, we ordered more, not less coconut milk." She smiled & said, "Sorry, but we had a very busy night." I looked around & replied, "There are only two other tables occupied." She said they are closing the kitchen. I know Sukie the owner/chef, so I went to the kitchen to request a side of coconut milk & she mumbled something I couldn't even discern...
Sure, we have our "off days" but when you run a service business, you do not let that keep you from providing the best service possible- especially when the owner knows that a 15+ year patron has switched countless people from other Thai restaurants to hers and said patron has a legitimate request/problem. I went back to my table & told my three friends, "This place is not what it used to be & The Royal Thai or Indochine have par food & BETTER service..."
PS: I know how to make excellent Mango Sticky Rice & trust me, it would have been easy peasy to whip up a side of sweetened coconut milk...
Delicious as always
