Cozy neighborhood staple earns buzz for its classic Thai dishes served in a colorful Craftsman home.
I've worked in restaurants for my entire adult life, so about 11 years now, and there are seldom places that truly create a warmth of atmosphere like Kwanjai Thai. We were immediately greeted by the owners, a passionate couple whose food and liveliness I will never forget, and had a lovely dinning experience that made me feel like I had been going here every Friday for years. The matron of the establishment is sweet, the food is divine, and the place is warm and welcoming. I had a blast and will be back.
Wonderful thai food! We had pineapple fried rice, pot stickers, DUCK curry, red curry vegan, green curry tofu and it was all great! Quick and straight forward service. Not a lot of sitting area inside but some outdoor as well. Good size portions and appropriate flavor and spiciness.
Tried Kwanjai Thai Cuisine for lunch. It’s a few steps away from Fremont Coffee Company. We dropped in on a Sunday (noon). Most entrees are $12.95 USD. We opted for level 2 (medium) spice.
- Brown rice ($2.00 USD) - good portion. Enough to share between two.
- Massaman curry ($12.95 USD) - potatoes touch hard, beef slightly chewy. Liked the peanuts but curry was too sweet and thin.
- Pad kee mao ($12.95 USD) - wide flat noodles had a good bite. Good portion of meat (pork), decent wok hei.
Average Thai eats at KTC.
Ordered cashew chicken takeout. 4 stars for tasting good and being huge portions. Definitely two meals in here. The rice is not included in the price on the menu, so you have to order that on the side. $15 total. Only reason it’s not 5 stars is because it’s pretty far from “authentic” thai ingredients, etc. But definitely tasty.
Sat down, ordered, my food arrived on plates and immediately was told I needed to leave because they had a large catering order for a party coming in? This all happened in the span of 15 minutes so I'm confused as to why I wasn't told BEFORE I was seated and placed my order.
This was after taking the gamble after the clearly displayed "okay" health code rating and thinking the food looked good anyway. I understand my order was already prepared, but I didn't want to take my food to go which is why I sat in, and there was a big fuss made about refunding me. A bit of transparency would have been appreciated and completely changed my experience.

Too sweet pad Thai
my favorite thai spot in seattle. great food, typically spicy, and portions
I lived in Thailand and I love this spot! Great prices and super welcoming services. Flavor is delicious!!
Best Phad Thai in Seattle. Best Thai in Seattle. I go here about once a week.
It’s the best Thai food in the city, favorite Auntie vibes
Im coming from salt lake, and there are many Thai places there which are good. But this place is GREAT.
I WISH I had this in my hometown, great service servings and the food is phenomenal.
This place always hits, biggest portions in Fremont
Classic old school Thai food. These folks run a tight ship and the portions are fantastic!

The food tasted good but the aftermath was not good. My friend got the runs from the food and i found a hair in my food. It was not a great experience
I can’t emphasize enough how delicious the chicken larb is - same with the fresh rolls, spring rolls, and soups. Best Thai I’ve had in Seattle. Also convenient how quickly dishes are made and large portions! But seriously try the larb
Suprisingly good Thai place located in Wallingford area! Give it a try guys :)
Just straight rude when trying to order food. Learn customer service lady.
My noodle dish was a soup. The flavor of unseasoned precooked chicken was dominant. It came out within 5 minutes, but that is not a good sign. Definitely not worth $16.
The best.
Always amazing & fresh food! Excellent service and a great atmosphere.
I only got fresh rolls here but they were really really good! I was momentarily addicted to the dipping sauce
Exactly what I want out of a good Thai food takeout place. Three star spice was warmer than I expected so if you like it really hot this place is a shoe-in.
Great food! Huge portions! Spice levels accurate! Fantastic service! Will be coming again :)
I’ve worked in Fremont for 17 years and tried all the Thai spots but this one until today. It’s top notch. Large portions, good prices and quality dishes. We had the phad kee mao and the pad ginger chicken. Well done and will definitely go back. Seating is small and would be crowded when full in this converted craftsman.
The BEST Thai food in Fremont !
Good place to take your family, your friends, girlfriend, or the picky eater.
Simple, comfortable, and service that makes you feel like a V.I.P.
Dang. Best Thai place in Seattle. Best value too. Prices are the lowest I’ve seen + portions are hugeeeeeeee. Will make this my go to spot for sure
Really good chicken pad Thai and shrimp green curry
Delicious food

Love it here!
Very friendly service, food was delicious, tons of gluten free options
Super friendly staff and the food is so flavorful. Will be coming back here soon!
Ordered two tofu curries takeout. We got one with chicken. Both were too sweet. And the double rice order (not included with curry) was skimpy (one takeout container).
This place is wildly inconsistent but I love it nonetheless. Always good, local, authentic spot with a hardworking staff!
Best Pad Thai I have ever had!!!!
Amazing restaurant, the food so delicious and very reasonable prices, the server was so professional (young blond guy) .
Someone below is griping about the owner. Look, she is rad and the sort of local flavor our city desperately needs. She gave me a free beer on her birthday! Who does that!?
If Kwanjai yells at you, either
A. She likes you
B. You had it coming for doing something stupid
Also the portions and price are amazing and the food is good. The drunken noodles are magisterial.
there is no place like home
Super dive Thai food is the best! Thanks, Kwanjai !
The pumpkin curry is amazing!
you get enough food to save for left overs but it’s so good you won’t want to. Really recommend the Pad Kee Mao and the Massaman curry. The best Thai food I’ve had in seattle hands down
great food, amazing value for money
The food here is good and affordable but the lady in charge needs to get a grip. She was yelling at customers and staff tonight, and my partner said she was throwing a tantrum w people in the restaurant a few weeks ago too. She sounds like nightmare, I feel bad for the poor staff that have to endure that mistreatment and I feel bad for the customers who do literally nothing to warrant such disrespect. Our food had hair in it too. With so many Thai shops in the neighborhood, I’ll gladly go somewhere else where people aren’t treated like that. We’re not coming back.
Deceptive pricing. Extremely rude. Don’t assume someone doesn’t understand what you say when you speak another language.
One of my favorite Thai spots in Fremont. I come here probably at least once a week. Good food, prepared fast!!
The food is consistently tasty and the portions are relatively large. I have eaten at many Thai restaurants in the area and this is one of my favorites. My recent order was the cashew chicken and it was really, really good!
My favorite Thai restaurant in Seattle. Generous portions and fair prices. The owners knows the customers personally and it feels like going home for supper.
Got take out from here a couple times and it has been some of my favorite Thai food I’ve had. Huge portions for a great price!
Decent food. They messed up our order pretty good though.
The Greek fries are off the chart, then you very the Sinbad Gyro on life is complete.
Please be aware if ur allergic to anything and read this before going here!!!
Went here for dinner on Friday, we decided this place after seeing good reviews. I am a vegan and I ordered fried rice with massaman curry after checking with the manager 2-3 times if it’s possible to make it vegan. So when the dish came and I tasted and found that it had eggs in it. Even after her assurance I got egg based fried rice. Thankfully I am not allergic to egg or it would have been really bad scene.
This place is a gem, mang. Mad respect to the boss. If you care about supporting dope businesses in Seattle while being mindful of your finances, you would be wise to support this place.
Came here with my family. Lady was very rude to us as we were viewing the menu trying to decide if we wanted to eat there. She basically yelled at us to move out of her way and sit if we were going to eat. Her behavior was unacceptable and we decided to go elsewhere.
If you try to order a curry with the lunch special, they put the pad thai, rice, and curry in the same box, which isn't made for liquids so it is going to spill everywhere. However, the food was still good, so I tried to order again, but asked for the curry in a different box because last time it spilled everywhere. Not sure if there was a language barrier or something, but the lady did not understand what I was asking for, saying they only do it in one box and she couldn't understand my reasoning, and she just cancelled my order. Went to a neighboring thai restaurant for lunch instead. Food is good, just need to work on their packaging for their lunch specials. No one wants to open their bag of food and find curry spilled everywhere
Goated
4 stars for the food and +1 star because it’s pretty much a one man show! The owner works so hard. We will try and incorporate this spot more into our takeout rotation.
Very affordable - $28 for two dishes
Delicioussss
Wanna come back more
From Brazil ❤️
Messed up my order despite confirming 3 times. Poor attention by wait staff. Will never return again.
Don’t forget to blow on your food its always hot and fresh here! I have loved my meal every time I’ve come, the spice is spicy, and the flavor is bold. The owner is also very kind; I’ll definitely be returning <3
I’ve walked by Kwanjai Thai for years but never went in. After our first choice Roxy was closed because of staffing, we decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Very homey restaurant. I ordered the Chef Vegetarian with rice. Stir-fried mushrooms, bamboo shoot, zucchini, broccoli, baby corn, snow peas, carrots with tofu. Not too salty and a uniques taste that I couldn’t put my finger in, but very tasty. I’d definitely go again.
Best place around for authentic Thai. Super kind owners
Family run shop with large portions of tasty food at a good price, what's not to like. Personal favorites are pad thai, pad kee mao, pad kra pao.
Our favorite Thai in the area, and there are lots to choose from!
Great food, great people!
Live this place, great value for the money (one of the few in Seattle). Very good flavors and decent portions. The lady can be abrupt but she is a beast at serving you quick. Worth it!
Great food. 2 stars is a lot hotter than 2
Great food! Very small with limited seating, but well worth the stop. We lucked out as there was only one other table occupied when we got there. So many choices on this menu - it deserves more exploration. Service was quick.
My favorite thai place in Seattle!
Generous takeout portions, and fresh ingredients. Tofu pad thai was delicious! If I lived closer, I'd be a regular!
Really good food, feels like sitting in someone’s kitchen, very homey and the service was excellent. The food came out super fast. Would return again for Thai food
Adequate Thai food in a small family-run venue.
Best authentic Thai food in Seattle
Homestyle Thai food with crazy big portions! Pictured is the seafood salad, but I also love the fried tofu, crab Rangoons and pad see ew. 3 cheers for a Thai restaurant that makes food spicy enough for me :) (also, mama Kwanjai is the matriarch of Wallingford and a gem worth meeting 💙)
Super delicious food.
Left us waiting at the table over an hour, never got our food
The owner is super sweet , and the food is very yummy. It’s a very good place to have friends and family to enjoy a dinner. This is my favorite Thai restaurant.
Excellent food! Everyone is always very nice and the portions are good sizes. Highly recommend :D
Great food, large portions, fresh, and willing to alter the dishes. Also don't be an ******* LEAVE A TIP you drunk late night people. (You know who you are)
Poor reviews are either due to sensitive people with personal issues or they are simply dumb.
Examples:
"waitress screamed..." no she just talks loud. Stop being delicate snow flakes.
I love the one review that they get their order wrong 70% of the time... no they don't. Our family and friends have ordered from here for roughly 12 years usually once a week. Maybe got an order wrong 2 or 3 times. Even so, check your order upon pickup. Chances are the customer is just trying to get free food. Seen a lot of people try to scam the owners in different ways. Usually young adults.
You get what you pay for this place has good food.. for the price! It's very affordable, spice level is kinda inconsistent, but it's pretty tasty all around. Nothing is going to drop your jaw. Service is meh but it's in a house, cozy, and the sassy ladies kinda rock it. I'm into what they are serving. Like Tom kha. Mmm good.
My favorite Thai restaurant in Freemont.
The crab fried rice had real crab, the pumpkin curry was delicious. We haven't ordered anything we didn't enjoy. The staff is so nice. They handled the pandemic gracefully and never disappointed
Got the tom kha soup and it only had tofu in it. Employees were yelling at each other when i showed up to pick up my dinner.
Love how everyone treats eachother like family
Great food, authentic, large portions, great prices, every time I go to add a ball I stop here for dinner 🖤🖤🖤
The most authentic Thai food I’ve had in the greater Seattle area.
My wife simply asked why the item she ordered looked quite different from the menu. The waitress went inside and came out with what must have been the owner. She literally started yelling at my wife and was absurdly rude. The food wasn’t bad but that level of service and treatment of customers is completely unacceptable.
Great food! We ordered a noodles dish and a curry dish and both were delicious. Big portion sizes, plenty of meat given, fairly spicy, and amazing considering such a great price point.
The food is way too spicy- and we’re Indian so we can handle our spice. The satays are fried (???). I’ve never seen fried satays at a Thai place. Basically felt like eating a flavorless chicken nugget. Ordered the fresh rolls- were not fresh from anywhere. The rice paper was evidently cold and hard. Probably the worst Thai food I’ve ever eaten in Seattle.
Best part of this place is how easily bougie fremonters get upset at the “curt” service. Oh no I don’t know how long until my food is ready, the person on phone didn’t give me the robotic answers I need!! How about show up and wait. Maybe chat with people nearby while you do. This is a real restaurant that’s not going to bend its back for good reviews. Seattle people (mostly comfy tech ppl) need to be yelled at and berated more. I love this place. Keep on keeping on.
some goodies. big portions. good spot. I'm a little spoiled, but I do stop here time to time.
Food is really delicious here and good customer service, feel so nice and cozy here!
The Duck Curry is amazing!!!
Chicken satay was literally just plain deep fried chicken with no seasoning at all, and super oily.
Pangang curry was spicy without complex flavor it normally has and came with almost no vegetables.
Only redeeming part was the fresh spring rolls and peanut sauce which were good.
Have eaten a lot of Thai food and this was the worst I've ever had anywhere, hands down.
Amazing tofu!
Not enough vegetables or flavoring. The curry should have richer coconut milk. There should more plant based meat on the menu. Thai iced tea was good.
No "frills" Thai spot. My green curry was well done, good portion size, came quickly, and was reasonably priced. Other places had a long wait, we sat down immediately here.
Best Thai food I have had across different cities and states.
Authentic, flavorful.
The food tastes off here, and I got diarrhea the next morning. Will not be coming there again, this place is unsanitary.
This is my FAVORITE Thai restaurant in Seattle...and that's saying something with this much great Thai food in the city. Great value, full of flavor, and delicious. They mean their spices so you might want to go 1 down from the number you usually get. Great place
Kwanjai isn't attempting to reimagine thai cuisine or push the culinary bill forward - choose this restaurant for the foundational thai food that you think of and wish for agani when you remember your best thai takeout experience.
For a group of six eating family style, we ordered seven dishes - curries, noodles, crab fried rice. The spice options are from 1-4, but in practice the level of spiciness in the dishes didn't necessarily translate to what we asked for in each. A "2" was spicier than a "4", but neither were all THAT spicy. If you like heat, you're not going to find anything to be too hot on the menu.
Wine and beer were offered at solid prices, though both were served a bit warmer than would be considered ideal.
Absolutely wonderful outside dining experience, great food, love that they're not shy about the spice factor. I ordered 2 stars that tasted closer to a 4 but keep in mind that I'm white as heck.
The one person working there was nice and was working super hard. But the pad thai was… rough.
We called and someone answered, we told her what we wanted and she said “ok” and immediately hung up. I called back and asked how long it would be then she yelled into the phone “HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE?!? FIVE MINUTES.” And hung up again. We went to pick the food up and she continued to yell and it was very intense. And the food was average. Nothing special. Probably wouldn’t go back.
This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in Seattle, the food was amazing
We love the food, but they get the order wrong 70% of the time. When we asked for the right food or have checked the order prior to taking it home they’ve told us we’re wrong or judged us for double checking. When we asked them to remake it for us, they’ve refused or asked for the food back so they can reuse it even tho we’ve touched it. When we visited the store to pick up our food they refused to give us the new food bc we forgot to bring back the old order from home. Very disappointed.
This place is amazing. The food is delicious!
Food came really fast and was more authentic+spicy than average
This place is a hidden gem !!! The food is delicious good size portions and lots of meat !!!
Have you ever had pumkin curry ❤️ so good !!!
You order and the food is out in less than 10min super quick and fresh
The person that was serving was extremely rude and literally screamed at us to be quiet. I understand wanting people to maybe quiet down, however possibly maybe talk to us like people, instead of screaming. I think they may not have been having a good day which is understandable. But looking at the reviews of who had good time here, it is possible they're only seeking a specific demographic at their restaurant. If you order, I recommend take out.
Amazing food, great service. Best Thai I’ve ever had!
That was a noisy and entertaining experience. And excellent food!
Hands down the best most authentic Thai in Seattle. I moved away from Fremont but continue to go back here every time we get Thai food!
One of our favorite close thai spots, really yummy food and quick service
Amazing food with friendly staff. Might take awhile with the just one person cooking but worth the wait!
This is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in Seattle. The food is amazing and reasonably priced, with an amazing family running the business. If I could go here for every meal, I would.
Hole in the wall with great food and friendly service, their 2 star spice level was perfect for people who enjoy a slight runny nose and great flavor
Our go to spot for takeout. The fresh rolls and a huge portion and the noodle delight is a hidden gem.
Went there to order pickup half an hour before closing and the person at the counter was very rude and seemed frustrated just for ordering a simple Pad Thai. I’m not really sure about the food but the service was pathetic, thus, i took my business down the street to the taco place.
Some of the best Thai food in Seattle. Low price and lots of food.
Low key and absolutely delicious! Best Tom Yum in Seattle.
Really good sized portions and great prices - I got cashew nut and rice for $13 before tip. The food is delicious and it’s enough for two meals for me at least! Definitely going back!
This is my favorite family owned and operated restaurant in the Ballard area. The portions are very good and quality is phenomenal.
I ordered the Pad Thai noodles with beef. The food was ready quickly and the service was good. I was impressed overall - the food was tasty and the portion was very generous for the price. I recommend you visit!
This place has, in my opinion, the BEST Thai in town. Their phad see ewe, phad Thai, and curries are amazing. And everything is fresh. You can see them cooking from the main restaurant. The Woman who has owned and run KJT is incredible. She remembers her regulars and is more than good to them. Her mother used to work there too but has recently retired. Now her son does. Don't go for the atmosphere, this is not a yuppified Thai place. Go for the food, its both quality and quantity. Highly recommend!
Came in here it was chaotic, found a hair in my meal due to the lady I’m charge not wearing a hair net. The food was ok it didn’t have much veggies in it compared to the other places that I’d get pad Thai at. Very clustered and busy. So I think it’s best for takeout if you wanna keep your appetite. I’d say go somewhere else.
This was one of the most fun dining experiences I’ve ever had in my life. Kwanjai is the nicest, most welcoming person who has ever served me food. And holy moly, the food is amazing! In a large group, I had fried dumplings, tom yum soup, Pad Thai, Larb, cold beef salad, panang curry, and some type of chicken stir fry. It was all so good! Thank you Keanjai!
Best Thai food I’ve had in a long time… and I lived in thailand for 4 months :)
Get the larb!
After 20 years in Seattle I still believe this unassuming place is one of the best Thai places in Seattle.
Asked for dishes with 0 spice and received a dish with drowned in chili pepper oil, also found a hair in my food and the water tastes of dirty metal. On top of all that, got overcharged by $8 for someone else's meal and when pointing out it isn't my meal, the employee repeated the order ticket as though I didn't understand. Not a place I'll be returning to.
I always come here for the pineapple fried rice, easy top 2-3 for Thai food in Seattle for me.
One of the best restaurants in Seattle. Not only does the food come in large portions and tastes amazing, but the vibe there is extremely good. The owners there treat me like family. From my first dine I was immediately taken by the kindness and acceptance of the people here. Give the chef my compliments.
Was really great food and awesome service! Definitely coming back :)
Flavors we're on point and they know how to bring the heat. Garlic wings are a must.
Excellent food!
Best Thai I’ve ever had, hands down. Fresh, fast, truly authentic, and huge portions. And the rice was the perfect stickiness, that’s how you know it’s gonna be wow. The homemade peanut sauce that comes with the fresh rolls was noteworthy as well.
The yellow curry was delicious
Hands down the best Thai food in Fremont and I would say Ballard as well. Locals know this family restaurant is a gem and they are open and friendly when a lot of spots are closed. If you visit Seattle...skip downtown and come hang here for the real experience. Also this spot is "The Center of the Universe".
This is the best Thai restaurant in Fremont hands down! Generous portions and authentic cooking. The lady that owns the place is so nice and friendly. She gave us shots while we were waiting. We visit here at least once a week.
Not a fancy spot, but my word was it scrumptious. Big portions. Could definitely share a $10 order of soup and be satisfied.
Always good food and fast service we live that place.
I intend to try them again because I only had spring rolls and chicken satay... but the satay was dried fried chicken strips on sticks. I didn't know satay came friend. It was disgusting. Spring rolls were good though.
This is my favorite Thai food in Seattle. Owners so wonderful, food always delicious, great prices. Set in a really cute house !
I order carryout about twice a week and love this place and you should too . Highly recommend 10/10 5 stars.
Been to Thailand a dozen times and honest to goodness this brought me right back to the beach side restaurants I enjoyed so much. Definitely now my go to place for Thai in Seattle
Cute hole-in-wall restaurant that has their delicious quality food and fast and efficient service speak for themselves. Their spices and flavor combinations are unique and very good. And not too harsh, not too creamy, not too watery, their curry is juuuust right. They offer those four extra spices on the table when you dine in, patio seating available, covid safe. Family owned, relying on quality repeat service, ingredients fresh and wholesome, right down to the last bamboo shoot. Plant-based / vegan friendly,
Kwanjai means "sweetheart" or "favorite" in the Thai language, and this restaurant encompasses that name fully. Service and food prepared like for a sweetheart. This is my new favorite Thai restaurant.
