Thai and Japanese
We really enjoyed our dinner, but I was sorry that my traditional khao soy chicken curry soup did not come with pickled mustard leaves as it should. The servers were delightful and fun to talk with, and the cocktails were amazing! We loved the cocktails also! The vegetarian tempura had this amazing sauce with it, and it was delicious!
Made reservations for Valentine’s Day weeks in advance. It was a good thing because they filled up quickly after arriving at 5:45. I lusted over the menu for days prior to going and I was a little disappointed to see that they up charged their prices just for Valentines. Bummer because that left a bad impression on us. Some dishes had a $7 mark up. Ridiculous. The dining area was sort of uncomfortable with old dirty chairs with a MCM flair. Our server was very polite and courteous. We started with curry puffs and tom kha gai. The soup had a wonderful flavor but I did not like the huge chunks of tomato it had. The curry puffs were served on the cooler side of warm and could have been fried a little longer. It had mostly potato inside and had a decent flavor. They would have been better if cooked longer to make them flaky. For our mains, I got the Pad Ke Mao with pork and husband got salmon curry. We also got a sushi roll to share. I asked for Thai hot and it was not very spicy. The flavors were very good, despite the lack of heat level. I tried the salmon curry and the salmon was overcooked. The curry sauce was delicious with the jasmine rice. The sushi roll was also tasty and worth the price. I’m a little conflicted about if I would go back. I would say overall, it was decent but I feel like with the hiked up pricing and missed opportunities to make the food more appealing, I would hesitate to dine again.
My wife and I went here to eat dinner. It was the first time out eating there. I do not like sushi, but my wife does so we went here to try out the place it exceeded my expectations from the time we came in the hostess greeted us. Our server was great. The food was great. I was impressed. I recommend this for a date night for any couples again. Everything was wonderful.
Came for lunch at the height of the lunch rush and was seated immediately. Started off with the Moo Ping and for the mains had the Bang Bang Chicken and Phuket Roll. For dessert the Mochi Ice-Cream. The restaurant is a fusion of Thai and Japanese which I thought is a nice choice since there was a large variety of foods to choose from. All were presented and flavored nicely. The ambiance was comfortable and warm. And lastly the waitress, W. Jayda, was attentive and sweet. Especially since it was Halloween and she was dressed like an elf. This place has definitely made my “have to come back too” list.
Thai Tara is a beautiful restaurant with friendly folks and an eclectic and lengthy menu. We haven’t been living in Williamsburg very long, but this is one of our favorites already! Good cocktails, kind staff and the Sushi & Thai dishes are wonderful. Great job!

I had the Red Curry with Chicken, Thai tea, Summer Fresh roll as an appetizer and my husband had Massaman Curry. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! Best Thai food I’ve tasted in a long time. Our server Pun Pun was wonderful! We’re coming back to try their sushi bar. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Omg, if you have not been here you should .. in both aspect. Sushi and the Thai are both fantastic. Service is the best and they are so honest. Please give it a whirl ….

I have eaten a lot of sushi and I must say this is the best sushi I've had almost ever. So Fresh So Delicious the taste different I mean just really tasty that everything just kind of Pops in your mouth and you just want to eat more and more just for that flavor
Thai Tara was so delicious! We went for the first time last night and it did not disappoint! We had the chicken satay appetizer which was divine, the filet hibachi, massaman curry, and the beauty and beast sushi. We also both had drinks. Everything was great and we will be back! Service was great too.
If you're looking for flavorful, yet comforting, Thai food, look no further! Thai Tara always exceeds expectations in terms of quality of food, service, and ambiance!
Food was bland
So glad we stopped in! Spicy margarita was unique and delicious. Sushi was perfect. Lo mein was AMAZING. Service was excellent.
Amazing sushi!
My wife and I love this restaurant!
First time trying this Thai food (DoorDash), and we LOVED it. Our meal consisted of salmon dinner well prepared with fresh colorful veggies not overcooked, crab rangoon perfectly executed, a couple of sushi dishes all great per my daughter, spicy chicken and chicken satay also really well made. We saw so many appealing dishes on the menu that it was hard to decide! Only mediocre item was the fried rice. We will order here again for sure. Thanks for a wonderful meal (and yummy leftovers today!).
A lovely place to get sushi and a drink on the weekends. I'm personally fond of their bagel roll and the Sangria.
Above and beyond customer service! (I made a mistake with my online order and they kindly and generously fixed things without extra charge.)
Came here for lunch and had the most delicious meal. Their roti is the most authentic I have found to what I ate while living in southeast Asia. Make sure to order the Indian pancake appetizer. The curry dipping sauce it comes with is delicious. I also ordered the Ba Mee Moo Dang (pork and bok choy over noodles) from the kitchen specials and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was friendly. The food was good. I will surely be back.
Pop is a fabulous waiter. Also, they do gluten free really well, for everything except sushi. :)
Loved this place. Great food, great service, wish we had found this place earlier. Great menu, great choices. Will be back with friends .
Super good drunken noodles! Drinks are great and the food is so good!
Horrible experience.
The waiter was constantly rushing.
He would take away our items and start cleaning the table as we ate.
My wife’s food was incorrect and they didn’t even bother to fix it..
Having heard some good things..., I honestly was expecting more. Miso soup was tepid. Sushi was fresh and well prepared. No Uni, limited selection of sushi. Side salad was smallish, with a thick slice of cuke and tomato on top. Fried banana desert was ok, but some whipped cream on top, would have made a better presentation, and taste. Hope they aren't resting on past good reviews.
Got take out. Abundant tofu pad Thai. Also good flank steak drunken noodles. Super good. Service was excellent meal was coming out perfectly on time. Good containers kept food very warm. Recommended!

Sushi is out of this world good! The crispy wontons are delicious too. They simply have good food!
We loved eating here. Food was excellent and service was amazing. The place is kinda small so better for small groups or families. That said I will definitely be back. We tried duck, salmon, and shrimp. All were wonderful
Freshest sushi I ever had coming from Virginia Beach/Norfolk
Worst thai food I have had in a long time. Waitress was just putting in time - took order and came to clean away dishes - that was it. Vegetables in a vegetable stir fry were not even cooked and lacked variety - a lot of carrots and green beans. My husbands smoked salmon sushi was grey!
My favorite Thai restaurant in Hampton Roads.
We drove in from New Jersey to go to Busch Gardens, and we stopped here before going into the park. This place is definitely worth the visit! The sushi is extremely fresh and delicious. They have great portions! Ank, our server, was absolutely incredible. He recommended the red curry potstickers, which we may or may not regret ordering, because we will definitely be craving these when we leave. We actually placed a second order for the potstickers because we were hooked. If you go there, I HIGHLY recommend these. On a side note, they have KETO SUSHI!! Everyone was very kind, and the food was served quick. We will absolutely be back for our next visit!
Excellent atmosphere, service and food quality. Had pad Thai, my favorite Asian dish, it was delicious. Could have been served hotter, only because I prefer my dishes served hot 🥵, not necessarily spicier. Went with a group of six. Each enjoyed their dish. There's a surcharge of 20 percent for a group of six or more. The surcharge was applied to each check. We asked for separate checks for each pair in the group.
We go every week, maybe 2-3 times! Amazing food and awesome service!! You can’t beat the lunch special Chicken Pad Thai and Summer Fresh Rolls!
The place was absolutely phenomenal!! We got the Pineapple Yellow Curry was to die for!! I got chicken as my choice of meat and it was ughhh!!! The Gyoza chicken steamed with their house sauce was absolutely amazing!!! This is the 3rd Thai place we tried here and by far the absolute best!!! Worth the drive and best part no one was really there! Love love love!! Servers were also very attentive and very welcoming!!!!
Called them, asked ordered but hung up. They think I am dashdoor or deaf can't speak
Randomly stopped by here while driving through VA... Probably best chicken and steak hibachi w veggies I've ever had! Great carry out portion for the price!
This place was top tier!! I would give 10 stars. The food is very well prepared and elegantly plated. Servers are wonderful. Absolutely nothing to complain about.
My wife and I went here to eat dinner. It was the first time out eating there. Fantastic food and service
Nice place but not a great atmosphere if you have small children. Food was very good.
Everything here is excellent!!
A truly fun, upbeat neighborhood restaurant. Williamsburg needed a place like this. Both their Thai and Japanese dishes are excellent. Friends from Northern Virginia were with us and said their curry dishes were delicious. The service is polite and attentive. Great find of a place!
11 of us visited Thai Tara and it was great. Each one of us had something different from Thai to Sushi and everyone loved their food. I would totally recommend this restaurant especially after a long day at Busch Gardens!
No contest. The best thai food in williamsburg.
Excellent food and service!
Excellent fresh sushi. I have been here multiple times and always try a new roll. The wasabi is also fresh which I highly appreciate. Aside from the sushi I get the green curry which is very good as well. I order a medium level which is enough spice for me. Beautiful decor on the inside as well. I recommend to all Thai cuisine lovers out there to try this place out
The best Asian food that I have ever tried in Virginia by far! Everything so clean the ingredients always fresh definitely recommend! 👍👍👍👍
We went there tonight to have dinner and everything was EXCELLENT! They have this extensive menu of Thai and Japanese dishes with of course all the Sushi you can imagine! You will have to go to try it out because it’s hard to describe how amazing everything tasted like. Also our waitress, Pun Pun was extremely helpful, super courteous, friendly and very attentive to our likes and needs. The service was amazingly fast, the place really clean and the staff always smiling! It felt like a different world! We will definitely go back there, because everything was top notch and the food was out of this world! Thank you Pun Pun for making this an amazing experience!
Very nice place and the food was amazing!
Top notch sushi. Best I’ve had in a long time. We ordered food to go, but ended up having extra time and asked to switch to dine in. They were so kind accommodating this request by sitting us as the sushi bar. My daughter loved her drunken noodles with extra chicken. I had the grilled salmon with brown rice - the sauce was phenomenal. Salmon was cooked perfectly. I also ordered a sushi roll that had 3 different fish and wrapped in cucumber. Ah-mazing! We loved our food so much we are planning on coming back in a few days on our way home. If you are at BG, leave the park and eat here! 1000% worth it.
Food was fine, nothing amazing. We had Pad Thai and Pad Woon Sen. The 3-star "American hot" wasn't spicy for me but that is very subjective.
Sushi chefs need to be creative and attentive to customers. However, the quality of the tuna I tried wasn't great. I've been to this restaurant several times and have sampled Thai, Chinese, and Japanese dishes. The restaurant looks fantastic, but the menu could use some improvement. The Thai iced coffee is delightful. The coconut dim sum they offer can be hit or miss, depending on individual preferences. The dry ken noodles are a safe choice.
Went here twice in 3 days (only because we had dinner in VA Beach one day. Great value. Generous portions. Delicious food. The pad Kra pow was great. Service was impeccable.
We were looking for a change after eating most meals in local historic taverns. This place hit the spot and we actually ended up ordering a second round of entrees to share because everything was so good! Our server was also amazing! So friendly and had great recommendations! Highly highly recommend!
Best sushi in Williamsburg!
Amazing restaurant with Thai food like in Thailand! We ordered 5 meals and each one was just delicious!
Nice place to eat. The sashimi was fresh , the rolls are relatively smaller than most places.
The food was decent, and the service was good. The sushi rolls were small, and it was more on the pricer than expected. It would be nice for a couples date but definitely not a family type of dining.
Very welcoming, food was excellent. Sushi was very delicious also
Great Thai and sushi with wonderful staff!
Way over priced for lunch! $17 out the door for a half panko fried chicken breast and 2-3oz of veggies with a cup of steamed rice. Literally, a kids meal anywhere else. I’ve tried this place 3-4x and my conclusion is they just don’t offer anything amazing or outstanding to warrant their prices.
Thai Tara is AMAZING!!!!
We had sushi and panang curry! Top notch! We wish we lived here so we could make this our weekly Thai or sushi place!!!
Ended up going back within a week. The bang bang chicken was amazing as well as the sushi. Service was great and at sometimes to much with the many many checking on us within minutes apart. Will for sure be returning.
I highly recommend the pad Thai from this restaurant! The service was also amazing!
Delicious dinner and great service
Went here after a long day straight from work and was the elephant in the room. The service was great, drinks were wonderful, the food was perfect as always! Thanks you guys
Only veg in garlic beef was carrots and cabbage, the cheap stuff, have been to there other locations, much better, there sushi bar looked nice though.
Delicious food, great service!
The sushi is fresh and delicious. It is a bit pricey, just be warned. But, I felt it was worth the cost.
Food was delicious and the service was awesome.
Best sushi I've had in a long time. The Tom ki soup was great. I highly recommend this one.
Sushi was good quality, service was great. It is a smaller restaurant, other than that lovely experience. One of the best sushi spots in Williamsburg
Great stop. First time here after a day at Busch Gardens. Our waiter Michael was Great. WE enjoyed curry puffs, edename, one "Yummy" roll and a curry dish shared between us. All of it was fabulous.
Great restaurant and friendly service. Sushi was very good!
Excellent Thai food. The best I've had outside of Thailand. Good range of spice options (I'd suggest 4 star 🌶️) - very accommodating for me as a vegan
Our favorite place! We enjoy sitting at the sushi bar with their fantastic assortment of fish and the itamae/shokunin carry great conversations as well, truly enhances the experience. Visiting or local, you must visit!!
My 3 young daughters and I went here while on vacation. Samantha was our server and she was fantastic. Food was great too!
Nice place! I ordered Basil fried rice with chicken, it was EXTREMELY UNDERWHELMING. The rice tasted like it had just been cooked from white rice with brown dye. I ordered it "spicy" and the rice tasted like nothing besides heat. No flavor, no depth. Extremely disappointed as Thai Tara is not bad in other places, and emerald Thai is not much better.
These places really seem like tourist cash grabs. They lack any depth of flavor. Fried rice is my measuring stick for Thai places. It is a staple!
Definitely won't be back, beautiful space though.
This restaurant was highly recommended on a local Williamsburg group and it did not disappoint. We got a range of Sushi and everything was delicious. The space was nicer than the strip mall exterior indicated. One small thing was that the waiter was new and somewhat unknowledgeable. The pacing was at first too fast, but the waiter finally got the hint and things slowed down to a better pace. Would definitely recommend and return.
Absolutely a 5 star experience. The food was incredible, so many great flavors, and served quickly and hot. Alex, our waiter, was amazing. He took his time and described dishes we asked about and made thoughtful suggestions. We left thinking about when we could next return. Fantastic food, great service, I highly recommend!!
Great sushi in Williamsburg.
Good vegan thai food. Went 2wice 2 days in row.
What a GEM for Williamsburg!!! This place is REALLY REALLY good! And the service is impeccable! Super friendly, fast and knowledgeable staff! Service was quick and the QUALITY of food was AMAZING! Prices were good and the Flavors were also AMAZING! We came for our date day and were happily surprised, We will be back! Thank you Thai Tara!
Visited this restaurant while on spring break. Their website is great very informative and it was easy to make a reservation. When we arrived they took care of us immediately because we had a reservation. Even though it was just 2 of us, the service was outstanding. Natie, the waitress was wonderful, very friendly and cheerful. The food was phenomenal ! The short rib w blueberry rice is delicious. I’ve never had that type of rice grain, but I highly recommend it. You can’t go wrong w the food from the drink specials to the appetizers to the main course, it was all super super good.
This place is the BOMB! We have a historian in the fam so we were at the local historic sites. Previously lived in Japan so one of my sons wanted sushi. I wanted plant based. So we found this place, I knew we were set. They had Sapporo sauce on tap! I had the yellow pineapple curry. My boys essentially ate everything on the LONG menu. Service was impeccable, atmosphere was modern/trendy and food was good excellent. I think I have a good sense of these things. I really got a great feeling here. Definitely got very this one a try. You will not be disappointed.
This place is fantastic! It has a huge menu and great bartenders. I keep coming back just to try different dishes.
Super fresh and so scrumptious!
Very nice meal & good service.
Muy bueno el servicio y la comida
Clean and friendly restaurant. When they went busy, our appetizers were hot and fresh. By the time we got our entree it was cold. Someone from our party paid for our food and left and we went aware that she paid. We didn't receive anymore service once she paid although we were still at the table and waiting for our to go orders. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, but it could've been better.
Love the new location! Drinks, appetizer, and food were all great! Servers and staff all worked together to greet and serve us which was nice. Loved the Thai Bang Bang Chicken and Red Dragon Roll! Happy to see many of the same menu items from the Stoney Run location. Will continue to visit both.
Received delivery from here. 3 miles away no big deal for sushi. Everything roll was pencil thin and Nigiri was sad as well. Something was off based on their ratings but as someone who has worked in F&B for years don't serve a half butt product. Seriously dissapointed for what I paid....never again
Quickly becoming our favorite Thai restaurant in Williamsburg.
Was not expecting this to be as good as it was, I'll be back for sure.
I dont get others review. The food was pretty bad. Possibly the worst Thai i have ever had. The service was great but the food was very bland and left an odd after taste.
John was a amazing server he took very good care of us plz come the food amazing
This place was wonderful, friendly staff and the food delicious.
We had a papaya Salad with my favorite Pad Thai and some sushi.
Will definitely be back. Thank you 😊
Excellent experience! Good food, service, reasonable prices!
Great service from Jon! Always a good experience here!
First time going to here, food was great, prices were great. Service could have been a little better. My wife ordered her food order with no onions. When her food arrived to the table onions were in her food. I had to wait for a few refills. I will give this place another try. I am assuming they had new employees working. So, that is way I gave it a 3 rating. Went on a Friday parking was somewhat of a problem.
My wife and I selected the relatively new Thai Tara restaurant to celebrate our adult son’s birthday – all three of us being fans of Asian fare, sushi in particular. It did not disappoint. The decor is stylishly modern (if lacking slightly in warmth) and comfortable. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The Thai section of the menu was abundant and very tempting (we WILL return to try it out), but we were all there for the sushi. We all opted for two rolls each. They were all delicious and beautifully presented. A standout was the Victoria Secret roll (I could speculate whence the name derives, but I’ll let each draw their own conclusions). Suffice to say that we were drawn to it since it’s prepared without rice – instead, the combo of salmon, yellowtail, and tuna is wrapped in a thin-sliced strip of cucumber – making it perfect for our low-carb regime. It’s topped with vibrant red tobiko and served with a house made ponzu sauce for dipping. Other rolls we selected were the Spider Roll, Black Dragon, Yellowtail Scallion, and Tempura Shrimp.
Near the end of the meal, a waiter who’d been serving a couple of nearby tables asked us as he passed if all was well. We thanked him and affirmed our enjoyment of the meal, letting slip that we were celebrating our son’s birthday. He said, “Oh! We have something special for you, let me go let the kitchen know!” A little while later our waiter returned with a plate filled with freshly made mini donuts drizzled with chocolate sauce, and a lit birthday candle in a dollop of whipped cream. A great surprise and very appreciated!
Thai Tara is a gem, and we’re thrilled they decided to open just outside our neighborhood. We couldn’t have asked for a more welcome addition to the area. Highly recommended!
Wonderful authentic flavor with beautiful presentation and excellent service.
Their service is superb, the food is very tasty, their prices reasonable and the ambience is pleasant.
The appetizers were fresh and delicious which made us excited for the entree. My entree was a bit spicy(unexpected). But our server John was so pleasant and responsive. He had a new dish made for me.
Thank you John for being attentive and making our visit pleasant. Definitely will visit again.
Best Thai & Sushi in Williamsburg! Excellent staff and service. Great takeout too!
Yummy roll is the best!
First time having sushi deep fried with cream cheese inside, best sushi place in the area
We sat at the sushi bar yesterday for lunch, what an absolute delight! The staff were so friendly and the food was absolute perfection. My sushi roll was crafted with care and completely delicious! We will definitely be coming back to bring family and friends into this beautiful and inviting spot! .
So far, we've been here twice, and it's far exceeded our expectations highly! The sushi is delicious. The fish tasted very fresh and perfectly made rolls. The customer service from the wait staff have been amazing. It's our go to for sushi now.
Ann is the best!
This place is amazing! Loved every bit taste buds have been properly spiked with the most perfect pleasure . ALSO THE SERVICE WAS REMARKABLE AND WANT TO GET TO KNOW THE CHEF NEXT TIME. Great vibes as well. Wear your stretchy pants. No jeans allowed. 10/10.
Sushi was fantastic! We also had great service. Highly recommend!
Amazing lunch/dinner ❤️
Jon was very nice and made sure we liked what we got.
Food very average at best. We ordered a variety of food and was disappointed in each one. Thai food not much close to authentic, they serve Americanize Thai Food. Ordered few of the curry’s, but each of person of our table was disappointed. It similarly tasted like instant home made curry. Sushi was decent. Pad Sew Ew was sub par. Close to watery. There are a few more better options for this around town. This is what they call a tourist trap. All these reviews are based on the extra 10% off the bill , hence the consistent good rating. But try it for your self if you are still unsure. I would not recommend to friends/family.
I’ve been to the one in stony point area in Newport News and this one is just as good with overall comfort, service and food of course! They bring a modern vibe with great Asian delicacies and desserts!!
My husband and I decided to give this place a try based on the reviews and the type of cuisine they focus on. We are huge fans of Thai, Japanese and Asian fusion dishes in general, so we were excited to know that this place was there as it seemed fairly new and just a few minutes from our house. There were a good amount of people dining at 7pm when we arrived but we were seated promptly. The place offers a nice atmosphere inside with a sushi bar as well as a regular bar where you can also eat at. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike. I started with a Mango Mai Thai, which I thought was deliciously prepared, and my husband had one of their Sake. For appetizers, we tried the Crispy Rice with spicy Tuna and the Yellowtail Jalapeño. Both dishes came well presented and tasted absolutely delicious. The quality of the fish was really spectacular and you can tell it was high grade. For the main course, we decided on the Thai Tara Roll and some of their specialty Nigiri. Let me say, everything was exquisite!! I can’t get over the quality of the sashimi grade fish. After living in Hawaii for 14 years and having experienced some of the best sushi’s and sashimi’s there is, I can honestly say that this place did not disappoint. Everything we ate was fresh, delicious and authentically prepared. The service was also great and everybody seemed really friendly. On our way out, we decided to stop by the Sushi Bar to compliment the Chefs and told them that we will definitely be back. Can’t wait to try everything else on their menu. Very grateful for the quality of the food and the fact they are just a few minutes away from our house too!!! Thank you so much for priding yourself in providing such great food and service!!! It’s quite rare these days.
This is the best sushi and sashimi our family has found since our return from overseas. The sushi chef is a pro. We love the Thai Tara Roll and the Phuket Roll. Also a lovely atmosphere with string lights. And deals for lunch.
Thai Tara is a delightful restaurant with good food and great service!
Food was OK, not the greatest Thai we've had but not bad at all. It was a little pricey compared to the Thai restaurants back home but the service was great and everything was good. We wouldn't return but we're used to excellent Thai in our area. If you're not super picky about flavors you'll probably enjoy it.
I’ve been here now 3 times, at all visits the food was very good and the staff was friendly even on busy nights. Will be back many more times
Very clean and open atmosphere. The seating was nice and private while remaining open and bright.
The servers were very friendly and welcoming. They were attentive to our every need.
The food was phenomenal! The portions were great and the flavor well balanced.
Must try item is the tempura cheese cake. So good, crunchy and warm!
Went here with my husband and teenage daughters. We were seated quickly and service was friendly. Nice drink menu. All the food was delicious and prices are reasonable. Would definitely go back when we're in the area again.
We really enjoy this place. Good food and friendly service.
Food was outstanding. Wait staff super friendly.
