We may have ordered around half of the menu & shared all the dishes, so we each got a good sampling of what they have to offer. Every dish was so so good. A few of us are vegetarians and were very happy with the selection. The meat and fish-lovers among us were also very happy. Can highly recommend!

Then ordered our dishes 10 minutes later i get informed they can’t make my dish so I chose to just eat the apps we ordered which were very flavorful and good. The dishes came and my wife got the fried rice which was bland and we barely ate and the kids got mama noodles which was also bland. Don’t think I would visit this place again I would’ve been more understanding If the restaurant was busy but we were literally in the only table there I feel like I wasted money going there.

We've been to Elephant Thia between ten and twelve times. The first time ordering out our meal was pretty good. Ever since it's been hit or miss but after our last two messed up orders, it's time to call it quits!

I'm a picky eater, which is terrible because most often I don't like what I eat. I ordered Shrimp vegetable fried Rice. It tasted delicious every bite was exactly what i wanted and exoected. The shrimp were fresh and a good size.
Veges were perfect. I did a carry out even the spring roll even that stayed crispy. Definitely will order this again. Beautiful inside. You feel transported.

Food is ok. Everything showed up cold. This is my $12.00 crying tiger. I spent $70 bucks for 2 people and there won't be any leftovers. Not a good deal the wonton soup is cabbage in water. I strongly advise ordering from somewhere else. Won't be coming back.

Sooooooo disappointed. Seafood tasted horrible and curry was watery and low in flavour.

Food was good, but service was terrible. Had a group reservation made a week in advance. Showed up on time. Only 2 other customers in the restaurant all night, but steady take out. Took 30 minutes to get our drinks, and had to ask twice to get water glasses. Took 45 minutes to place orders, 90 minutes to get food, and 2.5 hours in and out. Food was fine.

Just really great Thai food. I like how they actually make the food spicy. I would say the baseline level of spice is more than other places which I like, but might not be for everyone. If sriracha is spicy, I would say get the no spice option, or you may find the meal unenjoyable. Lunch buffet is great value.

Food was good, service was good. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I went at 1:30 and they close at 2:30. Many of the items on the buffet were gone so I couldn't try them. I suspect that if you go at the proper lunch time the buffet would be stocked and delicious.

Ridiculously long wait for takeout even though I came at the time they told me it would be ready. They offered me a glass of water while I waited, there were ants floating in it. The veggie pad Thai had a few pieces of chicken in it as well. Pretty disappointing.

Kind of bland.

I guess this restaurant joins the growing list in Richmond of places that no longer bother making their food taste any good. The yellow curry, which I got low level spice, tasted of just spice and no other flavor. The rice was mushy and the gyoza was bland.

I order from here pretty regularly and they're always delicious! Had a mix up with my order recently and they fixed it without any fuss. I was going to just reorder through doordash but I wanted to call to make sure they had all the ingredients, they offered to remake it for me and gave me a free treat as well. Good food, good people

I'm a pescatarian that was given a dish that had beef in it. I was very unhappy, and they were able to eventually comp me a meal to make up for it. Overall flavor is quite good although they are not very generous with vegetable quantity. When we paid extra for vegetables there wasn't an increase in vegetables.

I brought my daughter for her birthday and we both wanted to try it.. Fantastic customer service, and really loved the food. I look forward to coming during the week to try the buffet.

I tried to place an order online. The website did not accept my payment but my card was still charged for $13.82…they stated that they did not receive my order. I called the bank and got it straightened out. I tried to order the same exact meal but the price was $14 something. When I was trying to ask the cashier why there was a difference in price, I guess she did not understand what I was asking so I kindly stated that I’m okay and walked out.

Really wide menu with lots of choices. Everything is delicious and the prices are the best in town. We go every week or two.

The lunch buffet is amazingly delicious, and a good value. But you cannot serve your own plate. The server serves huge portions, which is not good if you want to sample small amounts of everything. I tried to tell her to give me a small amount, but she didn't understand English, and I don't speak Thai.

The atmosphere was great, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food and drinks amazing. The appetizer Crying Tiger was so very tender. The Drunken Noodle (with pork) was filling for my roommate, and the Basil Stir Fry dish (with chicken) was one of the best meals I've eaten this year. We both ate our fill and had leftovers to take home, so I'm very happy with the portions. Spice level 3 (out of 5) was perfect for both of us - the spiciness built as we ate.

I look forward to going back and trying more!

Whenever we’ve gotten our dinner to-go they take forever and don’t acknowledge us for a long time. We asked for medium spice on the pad Thai and it was so spicy that it was not edible. I like spicy foods but this was way too hot and no way was a true “medium” IMO.

We all got 5 different dishes and it was so gross. We spent $150 and the only thing we could eat was the Curry with Duck. I dont know a whole lot of Thai places so I can't really compare it. But it messed with our stomachs too. I guess we weren't used to it. The website had pictures of sushi and there wasn't any. It was one guy serving so we we're there for an hour and a half. I rarely give a bad rating because I know it messes with the rating, but I'm telling you. Don't bother.

My wife and I have been returning here since 2019 (Pre-Covid). It now holds the distinction of being the ONLY Thai lunch buffet in Richmond and Hopewell. If buffets are your thing and you love Thai food, prepare to be amazed. Unlimited authentic delicious Thai cuisine from appetizers to dessert plus freshly made sushi. The outside makes it seem like the restaurant is just a glorified takeout place but don't let that deceive you. The inside decor is pleasantly surprising with nice plants and seating. There's a full bar (excellent drinks) and modern music playing. The menu was well done. The food and service were good. We'll be returning.

I'm not even going to mention what the food tastes like. That's a personal preference. The issue is that I was there at 12:30 on a Friday and all the buffet food was room temperature/cold. You don't serve yourself so there's an employee behind the bar so you point to stuff and they plate it for you. A line will commonly backup so you need to wait a while for food. I will say this in favor of the place, it was very very clean and well organized.

The food here is amazing. I order from here a lot for in person as well as delivery/takeout. I'm so happy they will let you order through the website and deliver directly to avoid the heinousness of third party delivery. The food is authentic in a way that seems very homemade, perfect!

Great dine-in experience. The atmosphere is really cool with a ton of cool plants to check out. They have made a lot of effort to offer vegan options as well for many of their vegetarian menu dishes, which was greatly appreciated!

We had the vegan drunken noodles and vegan pad thai, and both were really great! We will certainly be back!

Great dining restaurant to celebrate my belated November birthday and with exceptional food service.

This was my first time here, and I was hoping to get Pad Thai but i stead I chose something else and I ended up giving it to my daughter and she smashed it. I got her the Cashew Nut Chicken. She said the sauce was really, really delicious.
The entrance had some interesting things to look at, and me and another lady sat on the bench reading the menu, trying to figure out what the items were. It was hard to decide, but ironically we both ended up with Cashew nut chicken.

As far as the customer service, the guy at the counter who took our orders was very nice and accommodating. This seems like a nice lil spot to come have a drink and some takeout.

Amazing all you can eat lunch buffet! Basil Chicken was a little spicy and fried rice was maybe a little overcooked but everything else was perfect. Especially loved pad Thai, basil chicken, and pad see ew but everything tasted great. Service was great as well, we didn't have to wait long for water refills. Excited to return!

Always have such amazing food!!! So easy to call ahead and order if you want a simple, delicious, date night food idea!

I ordered a pick up order. I just got home about 30 minutes ago and starting trying each dish. Basil beef, wonton soup, spring rolls and the dried pork flakes since it was BOGO.

Wonton Soup: flavor tasted of chicken water with some scallions thrown on top, the dumplings had grainy meat inside and the wrapping was falling apart.

Spring rolls: flavorless, could’ve came out of a Costco frozen packet. (The sauce was house made I believe because I could taste a hint of fish sauce yet the To-go container was the size of 1 tablespoon which isn’t enough for 5 rolls)

Dried shredded pork: I can’t say much since I didn’t know what this was but it was a BOGO special. A few bucks, why not? It came in a vacuumed sealed bag which I understand for freshness but it’s basically super sweet micro ground sugar pork. Do not recommend.

Basil beef: this was the main entree and it was by far the worst. I understand Thai spice which is why I order things as they are love it. However this was horrible, the beef had absolutely no flavor. Tasted as if it was tossed in a pan/wok with water until well done and thrown into the most plane fat noodles with the worst chili ratio ever. There was 3 Thai basil leafs. So hot that the corners of my mouth are burning as I write this but no “flavor” to the heat if you will.

I ate about 1/4 of the entire $32.00 order and do not plan on eating any of the rest. Save yourself the trouble and find a more authentic Thai restaurant. This spot doesn’t do the food culture justice.

We’ve been getting carry out here since COVID started. They have had their ups and down but tonight was great! Lots of veg in my Drunken Noodle and my wife’s Pad Thai.

Every time I have come here the food has been overcooked, dry, and flavorless. It takes over an hour to process and order which is normally fine but when the food comes out inedible that’s just the cherry on top.

They were gracious, generous with their time and the table decor was beautiful and customized to our needs. We also love the classy traditional Thai outfits worn by all the servers. They provided additional food without charging us.

We are grateful to them for contributing to the huge success of the entire occasion.

We only regret that they are located so far away from our home in the Chicago area. If they were near, we would be dining there all the time.

I got a few Fresh Rolls (my first time ever eating these) and they were delicious. I didn't even need the sauce. My mother got the Thai Fried Rice (with shrimp) and added pineapple. She loved it. All the ingredients were fresh, especially the shrimp.

Pad Thai Jae (the vegetarian) was very bland and unflavorful, it tasted like nothing. You also purpose gave me the wrong appetizer. I was so excited to have a crispy role since they are rare to find. Instead you gave a regular spring rolls. You did how ever charge me the spring role price instead of the crispy role, but keep the name of it recipt. This is unacceptable if do not have an item on them menu make your customers aware of this don't just substitute and change the price, without their acknowledgement. So unprofessional. Additionally it was over price for the amount of food portions. People don't go there. There are better options in RVA!

Food was delicious, especially the ginger stir fry. My daughter is very picky about pad Thai and loved the version here. Yellow curry was good but spices were a bit mellow and the curry was a little thin, but it was still tasty. Service is impeccable and prompt for any need. Interior is very welcoming, with interesting lighting details and a cozy feel. Would be a good place to take a date or just hop in for a quick bite. Very much recommended.

Food arrived quickly!

This is our gnu dinner hang out! I didn’t know what to expect but we were blown away with how delicious our meals were! We started off with a Crying Thaiger and I am still not over the sauce they use I could drink that by the gallon. Then we went to their buffet line and I know we gained 10 pounds each 😆.

Some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten.

I hate to leave negative reviews, but this is well deserved. We ordered pad thai, wonton soup, and crab rangoons. The pad thai reeked of fish sauce- that was literally the only flavor profile. Wontons in the Wonton soup were incredibly sweet, as was the broth. Crab rangoons were nothing but fried cream cheese. This is some of the worst thai takeout I've ever had and I will not give them a second chance. Took one bite and threw it all away- such a waste of time and money.

Great vegetarian options with tons of flavor. Loved the music choice. I always take my boyfriend here, it's actually kinda romantic. Make sure to ask about the spice levels!

I’ve seen a few complaints on not being able to serve yourself and the dessert options but I never waited more than 30 seconds for the attendant and the dessert while usually a fruit isn’t great doesn’t matter too much as I’ve just am had great Thai. I’ve also been a few times during dinner and it’s a cool vibe and again fresh and tasty. The little market shop inside is a nice touch and the banana cakes are killer. Great selection of bourbon but they have to call the owner each time to ask for cost. I’d you haven’t been… check it out!

While working DoorDash the wait was 20 mins over and I didn’t receive an apology but others were treated with respect

This was awful. Ordered take out. Curry had a pool of oil sitting on the top. The tofu was fried and just squished out oil. Totally inedible! What a waste of money and food.

Shrimp pad Thai is excellent every time!

Came here with a group of 6 people around 8:00pm. We were all satisfied with the food and the service. Our waiter was fast and considerate of our needs. We're not from Richmond but we will remember this restaurant next time we pass by Richmond again.

Solid and reliable local Thai spot. Great drunken noodles. Spice levels are high by American standards (which is nice) but stay at a level 1 if you don't like spicy.

Beware of how long it takes for the order - reported times for delivery of 30-40 min turn out to be over 2 hours. Set your expectations right so you don’t get disappointed and if you have kids, don’t bother ordering until you are certain their kitchen is properly staffed to handle the online orders and dining in clientele.

Response to restaurant:
If an order is placed at 6:45 pm and then parts of the order were missing when delivered at 9:00 pm while projected delivery was by 7:30 pm, I do consider this to be over 2 hrs total. When I add the time for me to drive to the place to pick up the missed order, then it is way over 2 hrs and additional inconvenience with completion of the task at 9:30 pm - almost 3 hrs. Your apology/coupon came after I personally showed at your restaurant to pick up the forgotten by you food.
I think admitting the issue is a better Defence as it allows for people to see that there is attempt to change and not keep on doing the same way and then offer a coupon that can only be used at your place 😉

This used to be one of my fav in the city for their unlimited & awesome lunch buffets. They have renovated and the place looks slick. However, the buffet isn't much of a buffet anymore. You don't get to serve your own food but instead now, they serve you. Being a foodie, I did not enjoy waiting for a server to be available to serve me.

I'd rather serve my own food and go back to the original idea of "buffet" !

The buffet is not as I thought.Papaya salad and watermelon for dessert is not what i expected. Maybe the food choices are different some days. Maybe next time I'll order from the menu and order dessert.

We go here for take out all the time. Very friendly, food is great. We love the pineapple curry fried rice, drunken noodles, and Thai iced teas

I ordered through DoorDash. They did not have Drunken Noodles on the menu so I ordered Basil Fried Rice (under noodles) and put a request for Drunken Noodles and I said I liked spicy! That is what I got! It was good too. I do prefer beef (I got shrimp) and I think you can ask for it in the comments (it is also not listed on DoorDash). I also got the Calamari and it was good. A lot of breading, though. Each item was about a dollar more on DoorDash.

Food is great. I got Pad Thai, pineapple fried rice and chicken shatay. The staffs are friendly and nice. Will comeback next time to try other foods as well. Highly recommend.

Ordered the Drunken Noodle medium spice with tofu. Super bland and the noodles were over cooked to the point of mush.

Called in an order for pickup. The person we talked told us it would be 45 minutes. We said we needed food faster, we'd just order somewhere else. He told us it would be ready in 30. The food wasn't ready for almost an hour. No apologies or discount from the staff.

Awesome Pad Thai Chicken. The food was excellent and ready for pick up in a flash! We will be returning!!! I tried my friend's level 5 Thai spice, let me say it was if my throat was melting. Non spicy is my jam, but they have the spice levels 1-5 for those who are adventurous.

First time trying Elephant Thai:

I work nearby in Willow Lawn and decided to get the chicken pad thai. I'm incredibly sensitive to spicy food, so I asked in the notes section for there to be no spice, (spice level 0), even though it only gave options for 1 through 5.

Mine tasted perfect, no spice at all, and pickup was so easy. My coworker got chicken pad thai too (spice level 1), and it was MUCH spicier than she expected -- so definitely ask for spice level 0, if that's not your thing!

Altogether, delicious, on-time, and amazing. Will be coming back again!

Great food, chill environment, friendly service. Usually not very busy. They have a siesta from 3-4:30 PM.
