The food is too delicious. We ordered a Pad Thai Panang Soup, and a wonton soup. The place is quiet, good prices and the service is fast. I think it is a good option for lunch and dinner. Was coming from Luray's Caverns and saw this great option. I hope to come back soon And be able to eat other options on the menu. I really enjoyed and liked it.
Somewhat hidden Thai food place in VA.
Found it by chance driving to Skyline drive last year, but have been driving there from Fairfax county for the food.
So far every thing ive tried there is amazingly good.
They have one of the best pinapple fried rice. The curries are very balanced in taste and spice.
Their Tomyum soup and vegetable soups are very appetizing.
Adding a few more dishes here..
Best Mango with Sticky rice I had in VA.
Veggie fried rice and spring rolls were fresh from the wok and amazing in taste.
Try them on your way to Skyline drive and you may become a fan like me 🙂
We were staying at the hotel and decided to have dinner here. Very impressive!!
The orange chicken and the Pho were exceptional. Add-In friendly service and the night was a home run. Thank you.
Delicious food! It could use a bit of updating but it was clean and well spaced. The food is so good :)
I come here for take out. They always have fast service. Large portions. Great prices. Food is consistent. I’m a lifetime customer.
The food is really excellent and we were impressed that the lunch specials came with a soup and spring roll.
This cozy little place has the BEST Thai food we've had in a while. I get pad see ew with beef and it's reliably delicious every time. My 6yo son gets rice and edamame, and the edamame are also so good, better than we get at sushi restaurants or frozen to make at home. After the meal, the kids enjoy splitting a fried ice cream. It's our favorite spot in Front Royal!

I've been a frequent at Thunwa Thai since July and it's always been some of the best food ever, the staff is amazing and it's always just a nice spot to go and get food with friends.
Always on point!! We get it to go…
Pretty decent Thai place the fry duck is too dry in my opinion, doesn’t have the crispy skin I wanted like a roast duck.
Other than that all the other fry food is pretty decent and the fry tofu is my favorite.
Amazing! Got the Kapow spicy with beef. The portions, flavor, quality was all fantastic. I travel for work and eat Thai all over the country and this is one of the best I’ve had and the only review I have written. Only can speak for the Kapow but it was incredible!
I came here several times all the way from Culpeper for their very reasonable price, and delicious food.
I've been eating here since probably 2009 or so? The food and flavors never disappoint - and even today in the year of our lord 2024, the portions are HUGE; where I've watched other Thai places I frequent essentially cut their portions by 1/4 to 1/2.
The Pho isn't really "pho", but it IS delicious though, so you actually can't miss going for it still - just temper your expectations. All in all, you can't pass this place up!
Great food! Huge servings

We tried their lunch special. $11 for a meal with soup and spring roll.
I've eaten at about 15 different Thai places in Portland, OR, and this place is top rated among those places! We ordered the softshell crab , tom kha gai, massamun curry, and pad thai. It was all great! Our waitress was also very attentive.
Great place to grab a bowl of Phó ..
Fried squid is super good. Must try♥︎
Fried veggie too... this place is so Authentic! Will visit here again when I'm around.
Our dinner for two consisted of vegetables and tofu soup, spring rolls, Thai Green curry and stir fried vegetables in hot garlic sauce. The food was tasty, portions were sufficient and the service was courteous. Overall an enjoyable dinner with good value. Highly recommend this place.
The food was amazing. The ginger tea is a must try.
Good food
A nice Thai restaurant. Good portions, reasonable prices, and very tasty food.
Great food! Horrible service the guy who waited on us should not be a waiter. Attentive people are important in the food service industry. Food is exceptional.
Food is OK, decent enough. But service is horrible, guy at the front desk did not even acknowledge we were there and mumbling one word answer. I asked for spicy sauce which he said OK but was not there when we picked up the order, when we told him it is not there he said it should be somewhere inside the bag and did not even bother check or want to talk. When we get home, there was no spicy sauce. Simply put, he just ignored us all along.
Thruhiked the AT and this was the best place on trail that I ate at by far 🤌
Rude, smelled funny, no hospitality, just dropped the straws on our table and refused to make eye contact with us. Ended up going to Try Thai around the corner. Much warmer greeting with great food. Ended up getting up and leaving before the horrible service can continue. You're warned. Please pay attention to to the smells...yuck.
On May the 31st I ordered drunken noodles with shrimp and the noodles were so overdone they were literally stuck together and no longer edible. So as to avoid wanting to just leave a bad review I called to try and negotiate some kind of agreement and instead I was met with disrespect and frustration because I came later than they expected to pick up my food because I had other things to handle and their inconvenience caused me to have to turn around.Instead of being properly compensated they not only threw my food away but accused me of lying about my ETA, as if that changes the fact that they messed up my order to begin with.
We reserved the back room at Thunwa Thai for my sister's surprise birthday party. It's her favorite restaurant and I could see why! The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. I will definitely go back next time I visit my sister in Front Royal!
Always great food. The gentleman that works there could use some customer service and hospitality training but is acceptable.
Good prices too as Greed flation did NOT effect there prices much over rhe past four years as it has in most restaurants. So awesome news there.
Definitely recommend this place for carry out or dining in
Good place to have hot Thai food.
Food was excellent came out fresh and hot.
I judged a book by the cover, the outside looks sketchy but different story walking through the door and the food was amazing!!!
Food was tasty and authentic. We had Kapow Beef, Ginger Duck, Pad Thai Chicken, and Mango with sticky rice. We also had chicken pho and potstickers.
The restaurant is connected to a hotel which it shares the bathroom with and you can see a cool marimba in the back hallway that I took a picture of.
Did not eat here. Came in around 7pm but no one came to seat me. Walked to the bartender, who looked angry,if I should seat myself and he grumbled something so I sat down at a table. Waited about 10 minutes and no one came. Looked around and the place was full but no one else was being served either. Only one table had there food and they were complaining about the food taste and service. I decided to leave. Was not a welcoming environment inside at all. Will not return.

Great food for really cheap. Atmosphere is fine, not amazing, but you can't beat the large portions of great food for such an affordable price. The stir fry and curry are probably their best food. The pad Thai has a weird taste sometimes but the drunken noodle is amazing.
The most amazing thai food ever! Had the pineapple friedrice and pad khee mao, and it was so tasty. Kudos to the chef and the wait staff who kept us so happy!
Authentic and delicious Thai dishes. Large servings at reasonable prices. Ordered seafood Tom Yum soup, Papaya salad, pork drunken noodles, and Spicy Seafood and they all were delicious and entirely too much for 2 to finish.
Overcooked noodles and rubbery chicken for drunken noodles.
I love thunwa. It's delicious. The panang curry is amazing. They do lunch specials but it's great to get the dinner portion and have leftovers too. There are times I've done takeout 3x a week. The prices are great. I love the crispy spring rolls as well. The Thai tea with boba 🧋 is also yum yum. The staff is great, love the gentleman that's always up front, Brandon I believe. They have wine and beer too. Plenty of vegan / vegetarian and gluten free options. The takeout is always ready when I arrive. Super organized place.
This place has amazing food and they’re knowledgeable about what goes into each dish. Everything is fresh and very reasonably priced. Love stopping by here after a day of hiking. The mango sticky rice is my absolute favorite.
Great variety and prices!
Amazing food at a surprisingly low price. I am from the DMV area and am used to paying twice as much for this quality of food.
Quick service and the food was flavorful
I've been supporting Thunwa Thai for the past ten years. I typically have a favorite dish at a restaurant, but I tend to be all over the place here just because it's all SO GOOD. I went to pick up Drunken Noodles, Kanoom Jeeb and Dample for my husband and mine's dinner. When I got home, I was a bit surprised because there were things in the bag that I hadn't ordered. Turns out it was my lucky day! They had provided an extra Pho, free of charge with a nice little note thanking me for my support! How nice of a small business to do that! The service is always friendly and quick! When they say, "ready in 20 minutes," they mean it! I love dining in, but we typically order take-out as a reward after a hard day's work! Please, don't skip this spot! They're always consistent in their quality, service and overall...everything!
My favorites: Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Crying Tiger Steak, Crispy Duck, Yum Woon Sen, Panang Curry, Dample and Kanoom Jeeb!
I do pick up from here. I'm on crutches, so they are nice enough to bring the food to my car. The food is always good. We have tried many things, but I always end up coming back to the Pad Thai.
My husband and i have been going here since we have met years ago. We have tried probably almost everything on the menu and none of them have been a bad experience. The man who serves us every time is on top of it, whoever is cooking behind the scenes is a magical chef. We have nothing bad to say about this. We have tried multiple different thai places, in the city, other states - This is by far the best thai i have ever had. Disregard the bad reviews, not sure what they're trippin on.
Food: Phenominal, never any complaints. EVERY time.
Service: AWESOME. F.E - The server had a full house and was the only one working. He was on top of EVERY table. Noone had to ask for anything. He knew when people were ready for to-go boxes/how many of them, checks, refills... i hope he gets the big bucks. I have never had a server so diligent like him.
Addition to the recommended dishes section: Spicy crab fried rice, spicy basil rice, ETC
My wife and I love this place. Exceptional service and exceptional food. Even the prices are amazing. This place could easily charge double and I would gladly pay. One of the most under-rated restaurants in VA. Been here so many times and food/experience has never been lacking. This is a 5 star restaurant, 10/10.
It's a hometown Thai restaurant... Food is authentic and very good.
My family’s go to Thai place.
Hands down the best Thai place in Town. I love their Pad Thai, Kee Mao, and Satay. Great service, amazing food, and priced fairly! Recommend this restaurant!
Our favorite go-to spot in Front Royal. Very accommodating for allergies and always delicious!
Good taste food, lunch special gives a good sampling of Thai food.
Great Thai food. I've never been disappointed. Take out is tops.
Great staff, fantastic food. We always have a great experience at Thunwa Thai. Get the zucchini dish with chicken!
This is our 2nd trip to this area( Luray Caverns) and we made it a point to go back to this location for lunch. As expected this place did not disappoint. The service was great, food was excellent.
If you are traveling to Luray or Front Royal, you got to stop by this place.
Suggested dishes :
Spicy Thai basil fried rice
Masaman curry
Soft shell crab in hot garlic sause
Drunken noodles
Spring roll
And the "Fried Icecream"
I’ve only ordered twice and the second time was partially incorrect. But I called and they resolved the problem to my satisfaction. I will definitely be going back cause the food is amazing. Specifically any of the appetizers.
Food was good, staff was friendly. Only wish that they would bring out a pot of Hot green tea instead of a cup with barely warm water and a tea bag.
Authentic food
Great value, surprisingly good food! They didn't ask for spicy level, and food came out spicy, which was great for us, but may not be for others
Best Thai in Front Royal.
Ordered the fried rice lunch platter with vegetable soup. Loved it!
My server's recommendation was great, and now I have a new dish in my rotation!! The spicy eggplant was delicious!!!
Thunwa is a core restaurant of this town. High quality, consistent, and clean. A few years ago, when the food inspectors came through town, this was THE cleanest restaurant in town. That speaks to the care and attention to the hidden details Thunwa prioritizes. Always a delightful experience.
Good food, clean place. Recommendable.
Our Favorite Thia Place!
Very rude.poor customer service.not suitable for children
Worst customer service. Weird experience.
After reading the reviews I was hoping for a lot more from this place 😞 the presentation is beautiful (minus a few spots on the plate) and the portions are not as plentiful as described. I’m pregnant. So imagine the disappointment. The “wide rice noodle” is cut up rice paper sheets and the condiments are watered down. The chili sauce is chamoy and the service is subpar at best - there was no anticipation of what’s needed for the meal and never not once asked if there was anything else I needed. All in all, good for a fill, but not 4.5 ⭐️good which is the current rating.
Excellent food that also happens to be well priced
Great food. Great price 👍
Terrible service. Stood inside the entrance waiting to be seated for 5 mins and no one even spoke to me. First time here. I will not be back.
This restaurant is in a hotel, but the food is really good and definitely worth a visit! If you like spicy they will absolutely accommodate you and it will be HOT!! The spicy basil fried rice by default is pretty hot, but you can request milder or hotter if you like. It's one of my favorites. And the mango sticky rice is fantastic! Warm sticky rice with a sweet creamy sauce and cool mango chunks. A great finish to a spicy meal.
The atmosphere is a little dated but welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful and they love to hear how you enjoyed their food.
This was our first time in. The place was packed and the kitchen was backed up a bit. Our apps came out with in a few mins so the kiddos had something to munch on. Our meals took a while and came out spread out a little. The food was great and worth the wait. We had pineapple fried rice with chicken, chicken pad Thai and drunken noodles. Overall a good experience and we will be back. We want to try and crab fried rice...
The food was ready good and tastes just like the real thing in Thailand.
The service was ok but gave us the feeling like we weren’t really wanted there.
All things considered definitely a place to visit when in Front Royal
Been here many times. Food is great. I forget the servers name, but he’s in there all the time and he does an amazing job. Highly recommend!
Not Thai. It's salty, greasy, American Asian food.
Excellent food , didn’t expect Thai to be this good being traveling from different state .. I wish this restaurant is everywhere,
Fried rice, red curry must try
Thunwa seems like a place with great potential the staff are nice, the environment is ok and the food looks great. However for some reason it was completely inedible. I ordered the Pad Thai and it was brain stoppingly sweet with really no other taste. I was very disappointed considering the high reviews this place has.
This place is The Best Thai restaurant in town. I was impressed with the spice levels and ability to customize how spicy you can order. I enjoy the fact that when you order spicy, you get spicy (not every thai restaurant is honest with the spice levels). I highly recommend the Kee Mao and mango sticky rice. The portions are generous and flavor is profound for the price. I cannot wait to visit again.
The food is delicious and compensates for other ratings. Always my go to place to dine and he get takeout
Papaya salad was delicious and had a little kick. Pork drunken noodles came out hot from the kitchen. Heat level was nice. Enough to make my eyes water a bit. Salad was a perfect balance to cool down.
I didn't set my expectations high as the restaurant is built into a Baymont. Don't let that stop you. Food was great! Greatly exceeded my expectations.
Very good Thai in Front Royal!
Had cashew chicken, was great. I don't do spicy well, so Thai can be touchy, but this was mild and flavorful. And the Thai iced tea is delicious, not much like American iced tea but rich and tasty.
Food is authentic Thai and delicious, huge servings!
This quaint Thai restaurant in Front Royal has really flavorful menu items. Built into the side of a hotel, it's kind of a hidden treasure and a bit easy to miss. Yet is worth finding for the various authentic dishes. I recommend the basil fried rice and the satay with peanut sauce! This restaurant is lgbtq-friendly.
Great food and quick service. We are vegetarians and the food was customised per our dietary requirements. Spring rolls and pineapple fried rice were very good. MassAman curry was too sweet.
This place is all about THE FOOD....I had the Red Curry Beef lunch special and it was INCREDIBLE....SOOOO tasty and unique with perfect spice levels....it was amazing...(the soup and spring roll it comes with are whatever. but who cares....) the decor is what it is. It is a side road diner with incredible food.....Oh. and the total bill for 2 ppl including a soda and coffee was under $30 before tip....
I am a regular customer of this restaurant. I normally don't write reviews. But this time I really can't accept the bad service. My wife and I had dinner at the restaurant last Friday. Everything seemed normal. Our food was delicious as always but what we couldn't accept was the service from the waiter. At first our waitresses were men. But after that our waiter changed to a woman. She is a waitress with no manners. and while bringing food out to us She smells of alcohol When she speaks we can smell alcohol we think it looks unprofessional to drink while working. We hope the restaurant will improve and warn her about this urgently.
Had tom kha Gai soup (chicken/mushroom/coconut milk)...it was loaded w chicken pieces, lemongrass & SO tasty!! Also had woo sen larb salad... again, SO tasty w lime juice, minced chicken and iceberg lettuce! My complaining mother had pad Thai...a classic, but many restaurants make the mistake of soaking the rice noodles w much tamarind sauce, thereby the sweetness overpowers everything else... otherwise tasty.
Great food fast service
First time here, Love this place!! Authentic Thai food, met the chef, love her. 5 stars!!!!
Loved it. Great food, good service, authentic Thai.
The food was delicious and the serving sizes were huge. The staff was very friendly and fast. I definitely recommend this place.
Fried rice is very oily like Chinese take out
No one was in the restaurant except for two men. It's attached to a hotel so I expected it to be bustier. Food was fantastic though. Soooo good!
Clean establishment, and excellent service and food. My husband and I enjoyed the curry.
My go-to for Thai food. If you're in the area check it out!!!
Great food. Our go to for carry out in Front Royal.
Unassuming Thai place attached to a hotel with great noodles & sauce options! Plus a few pho and other pan-Asian foods, this place is pretty legit👍
Never had a bad meal from here! My husband & I stumbled upon this gem a few years ago. We don't live in Front Royal, but count on this to always have a tasty Thai meal!
The food here was fantastic!!! It came out at a decent pace, and was good and hot. The staff kept our drinks full, and made sure we had what we needed!! There was a group of 6 if us on a Friday night and it didn't hinder them at all!!!
Love Thunwa Thai!
Eat here all the time.
Awesome food.
Excellent service.
I did not expect to find such great Thai food in Front Royal: I have loved everything I have ordered from this restaurant so far!
Update-- I've been coming here almost ten years and still love this place!
Delicious food.
Delicious authentic Thai cuisine! Everything on the menu is superb and the restaurant atmosphere is peaceful. Definitely stop by if you're in Front Royal.
Found this when looking for food when traveling and I'm so glad I did. Pad see ew was amazing and the serving was large enough for two people.
Best Thai food I’ve ever had honestly and I’ve been to a lot of their restaurants- even compared to big cities. Proper dishes, authentic flavors.
Everything was delicious here!
I gave 2 stars just because of the horrible service otherwise I love the food
Took my GRANDDAUGHTER there for a late lunch for both of us. I had not eaten there for about 5 years and the food was very very good as it has always been since it 1st opened.
Very good! Delicious spring rolls, really good Pad Kee Mao.
Spicy! Loved the drunken noodles paired with a Thai iced tea. Skip the appetizers though
I order food all the time, they are usually pretty fast and very friendly!
Very tasty.
Excellent lunchtime service and delicious, fresh Thai food. Good lunch specials and appetizers. I really enjoyed the ginger chicken lunch special and my lunch date enjoyed the orange chicken dish. Food is 4-5 stars, service is 5 stars, atmosphere/ curb appeal is the only downside. Really great lunch spot.
Good Thai food. Service was a bit slow, but there was only one person working front of house so that’s to be expected.
Duck curry was incredible!
The food was really great! I enjoyed it and it was pretty flavorful.
We had the Pad Thai and the Pad See Ew. Great service. Tasty and HUGE portions! 😊
I don't know why thai restaurants in the middle of nowhere are so good, but they are, I strongly recommend the fried tilapia.
Amazing Salmon. Some of the best I have had in a long time actually. Quality food!
Delicious food at very reasonable prices.
Worst food ever. Service very poor. Walked in and the guy behind the bar says "sit anywhere you want". Ordered the crispy duck and crispy basil and couldn't even finish it. Not crispy duck, actually very soggy duck with little taste and more breading than duck. My wife had curry chicken and the chicken was rubbery and bland. Curry was disappointing also. Rice was like from 2 days ago. Worst Thai I've ever had. Avoid
This place is my go to 3 days a week ,the food is excellent.
Nice
Their pineapple fried rice is wonderful and their portions are large.
