A cook lover with a restaurant.
I feel bad leaving a criticism but the Tom kha gai soup tasted weak and bad, like they didn’t sweeten it with coconut milk. The avocado salad was boring but pretty good, haven’t had the mango rice yet but it looks like a ripoff for the price. Get your Tom kha gai at Pineapple, or Bangkok zone, or Lime Leaf….
Lemongrass on the Uva corner is solid Thai food. The food we ordered was very flavorful and consistent across all of the items we ordered. I loved the Drunken Noodles and the family enjoyed Pad Thai and other items. That this is a family business shows in the careful attention they put into the food we received. We will be back and this is most likely one of our go to places for carryout or dinner now as we love solid Thai Food and Lemongrass everything we had was on point.
Start of 2024, taken over by new management. I dont think they do spice levels anymore, because I ordered a green curry at Thai-hot level and it was bland, kind of watered down. They gave a "hot sauce" on the side that was definitely not hot either. Shame, because, their flavors were very authentic before and the heat levels very legit. I was a regular, but I don't think I will be coming back without Thai-level heat on their foods.
Service is good however, and the restaurant space is nice, can accommodate large groups.
Lemongrass is our go to Thai restaurant when we're in Charlottesville! Today was no exception. We started with crispy spring rolls which were good but one was cool in the center. We both got the chicken bowl which is a light and refreshing lunch! I got mine 1 level of spice and my daughter 2 level of spice. Perfect! We also got 2 pad thai and 1 drunken noodle to go for our dinner. My husband who has traveled to Thailand says this is the best pad thai outside of Thailand! It's under new management so I haven't tried the curry yet, but I assume it will be as good as before since the new owner worked at Lemongrass. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sehr gutes Essen..lohnt sich auf jeden Fall
Loved the food and the owner of the restaurant is a lovely lady! 🫶🫶

Delicious and spicy pad thai and drunken noodles! A favorite of ours on the corner

very good food for its price, not expensive at all compared to all restaurants raising its price.
The quality of the food has gone downhill. I was a regular for take out. But the authentic taste which was there before the start of 2024 year is no longer there! Will not recommend this place anymore because of the food quality!

Lovely little restaurant tucked away under the garage; perfectly prim and calm atmosphere inviting you to enjoy a number of wonderful dishes. Staff are welcoming and friends, and best of all expedient, and the food arrives fresh and hot, delicious in spice and flavor. Highly recommend.
🍽️🤩🤯
Delicious as always. Lemongrass never disappoints.
Have been here a few times and the food is exceptionally good!
Food delicious always reliably good!
And the staff is very lovely
A weekly stop for me! Unbelievably delicious food, service is very kind and sometimes takes a bit but they do everything themselves and are always non stop working hard. I recommend everyone I know to come try the best Thai food in town!
UPDATE: unsure how my experience could be so divergent, but this went from a tentative 3 star to a strong 5 star. I think I underappreciated the fusion, the ability to get such a diversity of cuisine at quality level, something that I've come to appreciate much more as I've acquainted myself with the Japanese and Thai cuisines individually. I certainly underappreciated the prices, crazy cheap sushi and highly affordable main plates across the board. This place is great and I was so wrong to avoid them for so long. Come and experience the magic that is the avocado roll, or the mango curry, you won't regret it.
ORIGINAL: The place isn't bad, but I was also not impressed. The portion sizes are not that great for the price, and the quality of the food is sort of hit or miss, a hit with the drunken noodles, but a miss with the orange chicken. Alright eatery for the corner I suppose.
I ordered a meal with two dishes for take out and, according to my order confirmation page, it was canceled ten minutes later. I tried calling to verify whether or not it truly was canceled and whether or not my card would be charged but no one answered, even after calling three times. I usually like this place but I feel that the service has declined a good amount.
I wanted to like this place because of the convenient location and great prices, but it is not vegetarian friendly and does not do a good job of accommodating nut allergies. All dishes with fried tofu are fried in peanut oil, or oil with peanuts in it (this was unclear by the chef). The most popular noodle dish, the Pad Ke Mow or Drunken Noodle is made with oyster sauce, so it’s not vegetarian. The first time I came I asked to substitute fried egg for the peanut oil-fried tofu, but this substitution was not welcomed. The chef commented that traditional Thai food had peanut—which I understand, however I felt there was little done to be mindful of common peanut allergies for US audiences. Service is also very slow, when I went in today the chef was setting tables and taking orders, indicating an understaffing issue.
One of my all time favorites. I used to order multiple times a week as a student at UVA (lucky me, I lived right next door!). Super affordable, especially for lunch. Woke up with a hankering for the pad thai this morning. Might have to make a roadtrip soon…
Good food for the price. Their Penang Curry and Drunker Noodles are always top of my list. The food can be spicy if you aren’t familiar with spices, so I’d recommend having mild spiciness if you aren’t sure.
i’m not the type of person to write bad reviews for restaurants, especially locally owned restaurants that are obviously struggling due to short staffing problems during covid times. however i felt morally obligated to tell people to stay away from this place. i am sick to my stomach as i write this review and have been for hours after eating at this restaurant. after a friend and i waited over an hour for our food, i was initially served pad thai with meat in it (i’m vegetarian). my friend was not brought one of the dishes she ordered at all and we had to ask for it again. once i tried my curry, it seemed much spicier than what i ordered, but i was so hungry after waiting so long i ate it anyway. the restaurant had customers standing all over the place, waiting for their orders, with only one server attending to the entire dining area. at one point another customer had been waiting so long he asked the server to just, “give him anything they had ready” because otherwise he would be late for his class at UVA and he was starving. not long after eating at this restaurant i became very sick and have been for hours with no end in sight. i'm sure i got food poisoning from here. please do not go to this restaurant, there are many better, safer options close by.
Very small place, but the food taste really good
I used to come here very often. It is my 3rd time that I was waiting for more than an hour for my one meal order. Very unprofessional! I am sad but I will not come back in here ever again.
My family of 4 really enjoyed our lunch at the Lemongrass today. Like everywhere else, this place was also short staffed. But our server was so kind even when she was clearly swamped with orders. (She was the only one on the floor) We have eaten lots of thai food and sushi from many different restaurants all over the country and this place was was solid. Sushi was fresh with good rice to other ingredient ratio. Thai entrees were well seasoned and flavorful. We ordered mild for all the entrees since we have young children and had no problem with spice level.
Lemongrass is always good, but it's never great, and it seems on the pricy side for what you get. Also, excessively greasy.
This is my FAVORITE Thai food place in all of VA! I highly recommend the masaman curry you will not be dissapointed! I also love the orange peel beef!
The honey chicken is the best I have ever had.
medium is pretty spicy.
Lunch deal is great - best value for money Thai curry in Cville. Really tasty too, excellent tofu, and definitely on the spicier side! 🌶
Lots of space for dining. Same good taste as before. A little pity of no Thi-tea.
The sesame tofu was one of the best I've ever had. The rice was a bit off today, a bit cold and clumpy. I'm sure this place has on and off days, perhaps we came on a slightly off day. I'd recommend a bit more training for the waiters as well (didn't really bring us plates or silverware until we asked... Was a bit odd).
Great fresh food as always. The quality of the food has been great each and every time I have been for the last 10 years.
The best pad thai! Love this place so much. It’s right on the Corner on 14th so it’s super convenient if you’re walking around that area.
The japanese food slaps. The chefs used to work at Kokoro which was top tier Japanese in cville
Says open. Takes money. No food. No open. Pretty simple. Sad
Amazing and tasty Thai food! Definitely stop by!!
Missing many menu items. Ordered several items and they late cancelled two items after I ordered - one after 5-10 mins and another ~30 mins later
I ordered food ahead of time and had to wait way past the pickup time. The food was overall not very good and I specifically asked for there to not be any spicy mayo or anything spicy on one of the rolls that I got and they still put it on there for it was inedible by the person who was supposed to have it for their supper.
Awesome place for vegetarians and vegans!
Pretty good sushi and thai food
Lemongrass has what you would expect from a good Thai restaurant and more. Enjoyed our visit here very much.
Very good curry and pad thai. The service was a little slow, but we did come in during the busy lunch hour (around 1:00 pm). The prices for lunch are hard to beat. Tasty food, good portions, and relatively cheap compared to other restaurants in the area. Will be coming back!
Descent place. If your ramen standards aren't too high, then you can get the ramen here on weekends.
Saturday lunches at Lemongrass = actual heaven
Our waitresses today were absolutely amazing as well!! 💟
Favorite Thai food to this day- always fast and friendly service.
They have the best pineapple fried rice in Charlottesville ;)
The service was slow, the waiters did not know the menu, the kitchen was unwilling to compromise on me u items for dietary restrictions.
Tried the drunken noodle with tofu. It cost 8usd and was pretty good. I was surprised to hear that adding shrimp would double the price. My friend ordered chicken panang curry and said it was good too. We also had vegetable rolls , also good. Nice behavior. Place was clean.
Great food, fast service and amazing staff
fantastic every time
Good, Thai food. Most dishes run about $10-14
Typical Thai fare, order at the counter and they bring you food to your table.
Absolute favorite lunch place in Charlottesville. Best Thai in town. Lunch menu prices are worth it.
Used to love coming to this restaurant whenever in Charlottesville but this will be the last time. Food quality is at minus zero. I feel like throwing up. Very oily and tasteless. Never again. Made mistake of coming here for graduation lunch.
Fast service, great food!
I had high hopes and had heard good reviews. But, when the glass of water comes with a complimentary lipstick mark on the rim and you watch the waitress shuffle through a dozen glasses before she finds one clean enough to give you, that instantly makes me question how clean this place is. Plus, the cherry on top was my girlfriend's food should have been steaming hot but was on the colder side of luke warm when it got to the table.
Incredible and affordable Thai. The green papaya salad and mago chicken are the best!
Great location for tasty thai food. Came in on a Weds. Menu is similar to a restaurant in Jacksonville I liked.
Pineapple fried rice disappoints. Others are nice!
Wonderful food and staff at affordable prices.
Bean sprouts were tough.
Went here because I was staying nearby. A cozy little spot with mostly students as patrons. Simple but solid menu. I had the pad see ew which was supposed to be hot but wasn't really. Which is why it's I marked off one star. Otherwise a solid little spot with fair prices and tasty food.
This was a tale of two meals. I ordered Curry and my wife ordered Pad See Ew. My dish came and about a five minutes later they brought my wife a dish of Pad Thai, having given her dish to another person that actually ordered the Pad Thai. However, that person either forgot what she ordered or didn't know the difference between Pad Thai and Pad See Ew because she dug right in. The server left, taking the Pad Thai but didn't even come back to explain or apologize until about 10 minutes later when he brought out a new Pad See Ew dish
But now when they remade the dish, that apparently did not adjust the spice level downward and my wife could not eat it. We sent it back and just asked for the bill, but they.tried to charge us half of the Pad See Ew that we didn't even eat, despite the fact that they screwed up the order and delivery to the table. We complained again and they removed it completely. I did like my Curry but the restaurant seems to have some issues with their service.
great Thai and Japanese food
Discovered in early January and it is our go-to Thai restaurant when we're in Charlottesville. Excellent pad thai, drunken noodles and masaman curry. You will not be disappointed! Do pay attention to levels of hot. Thai hot is extremely potent!!
Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodles all perfect
The most amazing Pad Thai I have ever had!
Masaman curry or pineapple fried rice? Oh, yes.
Very good food. Friendly staff
Favorite Thai place in Charlottesville! Not very big, but food and service is great :)
Good Thai food, not the best in cville but the convenient location on the corner is well worth it if you’re around the university. My favorite dish is the sesame chicken. They have also have ramen Saturday afternoons which is pretty good for Charlottesville!
This restaurant provides a wide variety of options for those who would like to eat a delicious meal. Many things from sushi to noodles are served. The service is good and the meal comes within a reasonable time. It is well worth your money and time to eat at this establishment.
The thai curries and dishes here are really good and delicious. The host was super friendly. The ambience was nice and peaceful. I would definitely comeback to try more dishes.
Loved the papaya kale salad and noodles
Terrible service
Edit (October 2018): I forgot to update this review since they switched owners. I've been back since and the food is still good. I do miss the old owners, as we got to know them before the restaurant got passed on. (They were almost always at the restaurant, which added to the experience.)
After trying a few Thai restaurants in Charlottesville, I stumbled across this place. I can honestly say that this is one of the best Thai restaurants I have been to. Their Pad Thai and Mango Chicken dishes are incredibly delicious. Definitely check this place out, if you find yourself near the UVA campus!
Food was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Intimate surroundings. Right next to a parking garage.
Food is excellent... 5 stars
Service is awful... 1 star
I've been going to this restaurant ever since I was a student at UVA (since 2007). Great thai food and very reasonable prices. But they've also been consistent with their horrible service.
Lots of good food for a reasonable price.
Tried several times. It is okay food. But today I’m really angry at the service. I waited 2 minutes at the door. Then I was directed to the table. Waited for 15 mins that’s right 15 minutes from 7:10 to 7:25. Nobody seems to care. No menu, no water. I feel like I was left at the corner. Therefore, I got up and left.
Excellently prepared Thai dishes that pleased the palate. Very reasonably priced, wonderful and friendly service. You can't lose at this place.
Food is good but but amazing. parking is a bit challenging because it is on the corner where the students are. That is also makes it nice because it is very cozy it has a nice energy the area around the area, the prices are pretty fantastic for the quality of food and quantity that you get. I would call this hole in the wall because it was the first time I went and I've been living in Charlottesville for eight years. I would go back
3 and a half stars. It is a hole in the wall place, but you get good food. Good place to hang out with friends. The wait staff a little too attentive because of limited seating so they wany to free up space as much as possible.
Great great great food. Small, comfortable eating space. All curries are wonderful
Best fried rice around
Good atmosphere and reasonably priced. The spicy miso ramen and Pad Thai are delicious! The Spicy Cashew Chicken is also wonderful.
This place is one of the best places to check out at the Corner if you are into spicy food.
Hear me out here... good Asian food but the prices for the portion aren't worth it and the service was detestable. When I went I tried to order the dessert that the people in the table next to us had and the waitress told us we couldn't order dessert(??). Anyhow, my friend and I sadly shrugged it off and asked for the check. Moments after the check came, ANOTHER waitress came by with the dessert we initially requested, only to meet our very confused faces. I said, "we were told we couldn't order dessert", and the waitress just said "so do you want it or not? I can just take it back into the kitchen" (which, by the way, is not proper restaurant procedure as far as I'm concerned). Anyway, I said, "sure" and so while we got the dessert, the other waitress came back to grab my card AGAIN and charged us for the now-had dessert. Unbelievable. To top it off, the servicers never came by our table to refill our water.. Given that there are other great Asian restaurants, I would not recommend this place to ANYONE!
Delicious drunken noodles and sushi at a reasonable price!
One of my favorite places. Get either drunken noodles or spicy lemon grass chicken if you have never been before.
Food is decent, service is bad. Repeatedly messed up an order at our table. Also would not split a table's check.
I gave it two stars because our food was good, but the service made the whole visit a not so great experience. Our table was repeatedly skipped and when we were able to get the servers attention, it was as if they were being bothered. Food was good, but here's a tip...treat all your customers equally.
Best sushi and poke bowl chef in town, hands down, supreme quality fish selections. The prices are phenomenal on the Thai curries, each sauce made by hand. Great flavors. Difficult to get in on a weekend Sept to May as it's one block from the University.
One of the best Thai restaurants that I have been to in Charlottesville. They have a range of Thai appetizers, rice platters, curry and noodle options, but they don't have many options that other usual Thai restaurants have. I ate here a few times. In my experience it's not a bad place to try Thai food in Charlottesville. Try not to miss spicy lemongrass chicken, it was good and hot. They sometimes provide you with a good Thai tea and once they made the worst one. It's worth trying it though. It is located at a convenient location for students of UVa. Decent Thai food for decent price!
Nice restaurant with a lot of healthy options
