This is my favorite sushi place in Alexandria. They have a wide selection of Asian dishes and they are all very good. Drinks are also amazing. My favorites are the mocktails.

This was an incredibly neat spot, despite the noisy guys sitting next to us. The star of this place is definitely the variety of the menu and atmosphere; I love Japanese food but am not a huge fan of sushi, so being able to have such varied, intentional options (ramen, rice bowls, loads of small plates) that aren’t just the standard throwaways that you often see at sushi restaurants was great.

I got the cucumber salad and katsudon rice bowl, and both had solid flavor and textures. There was an enormous amount of rice in the bowl that I was nowhere close to finishing, but it was warming and comforting and my friend said their tofu and crispy rice and tuna dishes were great as well.

Overall, a great place to catch up with a friend - I would recommend sitting outside if you have a larger party though, as it’s quite small inside and could get loud quickly.

10 out of 10 restaurant. We did the premium Nigiri and sasimi menu, and shu Toro nigiri for drinks we got signature cocktails are Akenotini and Passion-Rita well worth the money. The service was absolutely outstanding, all the dishes were amazing.

Enjoyed the quick service. The food was fresh and delicious. Plenty sushi options. Ramen was the best I've had in a while.

I love this place. The sushi is always delicious and high quality. You can really see how much skill and craftsmanship goes into each roll. They also have an excellent cocktail program. Do yourself the favor of ordering at least one of their specialty rolls. They have classics and unique new combinations all expertly presented. My favorite is the Snow White roll, but this time I got the seasonal Halloween Monster roll and a new addition. For cocktails you have to experience the lavender gin fizz! I cannot recommend this place enough, I tell everyone it's the best sushi in all of NOVA.

Amazing food and atmosphere. Friendly staff. I had the rainbow roll and Alaskan roll, both of which were great. The other sushi rolls my friends were also great.

There isn't a ton of seating so if it's a weekend night, i recommend making a reservation.

Price: pretty standard for sushi in the Nova area. The special rolls are about 13-14 dollars and the other rolls about 8 dollars.

Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Got ramen, stickmeats, and the spicy tuna salad delivered. This was my first foray into ramen and it was only OK (but I'm more of Bun Bo Hue/Bun Rien fan). However, everything else was FANTASTIC! The chicken skewers were excellent, the beef (with that citrus oil glaze) was PHENOMENAL. And the tuna was outstanding as well.

I actually just left this place and I really hope a manager reaches out to me after this. My partner and I came in to enjoy some drinks and food around 1:30 on 12/27. The bartender/server came over and was EXTREMELY rude. She walked up without introducing herself and went straight to asking us for drinks. We thought was strange but we just brushed it off and proceeded to order our drinks. She asked us to show ID (even though we are over 35 snd you can clearly tell) which is fine. I proceeded to tell her I have my electronic passport on my phone but I am far from a minor and have identification. She refused to serve me and shrugged her shoulders. I work in the industry and have been a general manager and I know that there was a better way to handle that for a person who clearly is not a minor. Her attitude suggested that because we were black and lgbtqia, we did not deserve to be served. We decided that we should leave because she clearly was not happy that we were there. We told her that we were leaving and she shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes. He had a ponytail. Now I am a big influencer on social media and was hoping to make content on your food and drinks. I will he telling EVERYONE about this experience and advising against anyone to dine here. She was really rude and as someone whos in the industry, there was a better way to handle that. I hope someone reaches our or I will take this to instagram, twitter, tiktok and facebook. Terrible.

The whole experience and food was wonderful. The staff were attentive but not over bearing. The food is a mixed selection of Thai and Japanese. The sushi quality and taste was good. The cocktails were tasty and looks great.

I ordered door dash so I can’t say about the service or atmosphere but the pad Thai and different sushi rolls we ordered were delicious.

Excellent food, just outstanding. Nice place, not too far from the Metro. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Just fantastic.

I had chicken satay, tokoyaki, Tan tan Ramen and mochi strawberry ice cream which is the best they had.

Got takeout from this spot the other day, and the sushi was pretty good. Only wish they had seasoned the edamame a bit.

I’m a delivery driver I got an order to pick up from this restaurant. It took me 10 mins to drive to the restaurant and I waited another 30 mins for them finish preparing the order and the person claims it’s because it had beef skewers as if beef takes 40 mins to cook.

I accidentally ordered the chili pork belly, double toro roll and mango cheesecake for pickup, and when I realized my error, the friendly young lady who answered the phone said, “I’m not sure we can switch to delivery, but let me check for you.” Her colleague picked up the phone, I explained what happened, and he told me that I’ll be to your place in 20 minutes to your address! He arrived in less than 20 minutes!

That is almost unheard of these days with most service based companies especially food service. Thank you so much for going the extra mile, and you’ll definitely be getting a ton more of my business and referral business!

Incredible spot. Super fresh. Very polite service. The chef made a special creative bite just for us between orders. I've had a lot of sushi, this was exceptional, creative, and memorable!

The waiter was barely audible, and kept mumbling what seemed to be contradictory things (but again, barely audible so who knows). They couldn't serve the overwhelming majority of items on their menu, and when I requested they substitute steamed gyoza for fried on the happy hour menu, they refused--despite not being able to provide the items on that menu they refused any substitutions.

I ended up finally being told my third choice was something they could make and I enjoyed some pretty bland vegetables with chicken teriyaki that I wish I'd just made at home by that point.

The waiter cleaned up the table and then I'm not sure if he forgot or just didn't know he was supposed to bring a check, so that took quite a while before we were able to catch his eye and ask for pay.

Unlikely to return, even for their full menu.

We usually love coming to this place but the last two times we’ve went the service was AWFUL! We mentioned that and they tried to charge us with tip included with the check. It was a hassle. We asked for the tip not to be included for the fact that the service was so terrible and the waiter had the AUDACITY to say “if you don’t want to tip then next time do takeout”. Absolutely horrible customer service. Miso soup and fried rice was bad as well, chef change?

ALL THE FOOD WAS AMAZING, THE STORE WAS MODERN. EVERYTHING WAS TOP TEN. VERY DEMURE. THEY EVEN GAVE ME FREE DESSERT FOR MY BIRTHDAY 😭

We come here at least once a week, or every other week. The sushi and their cooked food is great, we haven't tried something we didn't like. Great happy hour too!

In short, it's a restaurant that pretends to be Japanese. Thai restaurant serves Japanese food.
Just not good. The service was even worse.

There's an older Asian waitress and she's very rude. There was an older man with glasses, I don't know if he was the manager or the owner, but he didn't seem to know what he was doing either.

They didn't come to our table once until we ask the check and didn't refill our water

If you're looking for Japanese food near Annandale, there's a restaurant called Yamazato, but at least they only serve Japanese food.

Best Japanses Resturant!!

I have only been to Akron twice, but I’d probably be there more if I lived closer.
They have really good food and the decor is beautiful.
The customer service is really great as well.

Went with a girlfriend for a table of two on a Sunday. Food is great, service is not good. Every time we needed something we had to flag down our server and ask for refills on soft drinks etc. It was slow too so the slow service didn’t make sense. Regardless we’ll be back for the food!

Food was ok to good wasn’t the best but if you are craving sushi and Thai then this will do it HOWEVER if you want 6 flies flying around constantly as you are trying to eat then be prepared to be so annoyed. Also don’t use their napkins it’s dyed a color I tried to wipe my shirt and the color of the napkin which is red got all over my shirt. My advise either order to go OR find another Thai or sushi place.

Very pleasant restaurant with a good happy hour menu. Monday was half price sake. Our favorites of the night were salmon truffle and baked salmon roll with ponzu sauce on the side. The servers were very attentive and my group had a really good meal. Recommended!

I have been in the Annandale area since 2007. This place is a hidden gem. The food and service are decent. I love food and know all the restaurants in Annandale. Out of all, this place is the best in the vicinity.

Been getting UNI sashimi here for the past year. It’s always so fresh & the price is amazing.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN ALEXANDRIA! They have a great selection of drinks and sake, the sushi is fresh and delicious. Their Thai food always hits the spot. The staff is just friendly and fantastic. I try to come here at least once a month!!! This is a restaurant everyone should try!

I really wanted to like this place. However, after my husband and I ate our ramen, we both became very sick. I’m pretty sure we caught a case of food poisoning. We ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen.

Great experience overall. From the presentation of the food to the many different flavors you’ll experience as you enjoy every bite.
Drinks are good as well.

Just leaving my favorite restaurant from being on a date with my daughter. The food was amazing let’s just start with that, I drive from Waldolf to eat here often. Tonight after I ignored the fact that she didn’t refill my daughters Thai tea even after I asked, I had to repeat that my daughter needed a to go container because she didn’t want her beef tenderloins and wanted to order something else. Thanks to her having water to help finish her meal. I asked for a to go container for my rice, when coming from the back with my container the lid fell where the gentlemen stand preparing the sushi and the waitress smiles at them like “oops” picks and up and continues my way while I’m clearly making eye contact with her and she tries to hand it to me. I ask for a clean lid and she chuckles and goes to grab one. Why did I need to ask for a clean container to box my food?!? I normally tip $50 but left $15. Respect your customers as you would your family. I honestly don’t think we will be back, not my family.

Es un ambiente agradable y el servicio es bueno.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the area, and everyone working there are so fantastic and accommodating. I highly recommend going on Mondays for their half-price sake. They have a great selection to choose from.

Sashimi plate has 12 pieces of various fish. $30. The size of each fish has been thinner and smaller over time and I just can't stand it anymore. This fish is now as thick as a paper board. Only salmon is thicker but the length is half my index finger.
I know lots of other good places who sell sashimi but this one was closer to my home. From now on I will sacrify 10 minutes of driving to eat a better fish else where. Still hungry after spending $30. Btw they even forgot to pack me miso soups today but didn't forget to pack 2 spoons. Sigh...

Been coming there back and forth, but this time particularly I ordered this gorgeous sweet and savory Drunken noodles. It has a little spiciness on it and the combination of bouncy noodles, spicy and savory make this dish very fun to eat. Their shrimp is jumbo, full of flavor and not hard at all. Highly recommend this noodles but their sushi look great too!

Good food and drinks. The rainbow roll was my fav. The server is also the host and so is the bartender. Little to no service but not to the fault of the bartender or the host, they were doing the best that they can. Also didn’t see a hiring sign, I hope that’s not their standard.

I ordered takeout and it’s by far the best sushi takeout I’ve had in the DC/NOVA area so far. They also take the time to make the takeout orders look beautiful with edible flowers. It was very special and their sushi rice is the best sushi rice I have EVER had (and I eat A LOT of sushi!) They even made the rice look beautiful which I didn’t think was possible. I loved this takeout so much I will definitely go to the physical location and dine-in. Truly loved this sushi and the presentation was the most beautiful I’ve ever had the pleasure of consuming. Everything was absolutely worth the price. 10/10

I had a reservation for 7:45pm on a Friday, and due to Traffic I showed up to the restaurant at 7:50, meaning I was only 5min late. The look of the hostess was pretty hostile and annoyed and she said this exact sentence "Oh, I thought you're not showing up"!!! I was very disappointed to be treated that way, I have been at this place before and the food isn't bad at all, however I was SHOCKED and disappointed by the treatment and doubt if I ever return to this place. Please learn to be kind to your customers =)

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Alexandria. The quality is far beyond what you would anticipate from a strip mall restaurant. The cocktail program is one of the tastiest and most interesting I've ever seen, especially at the price point. You need to get a drink. All the fish is always tasty and I've never had a roll that disappointed me here. I've gone for $5 rolls and I've gone for the big sushi boat and I've had a great time every time I come here. Highly recommend.

We come to akeno frequently! We love their wings and sushi!!

I love Akeno, it’s one of my favorite Thai Places! I go quite often. It doesn’t matter if I dine in or order take out, the food is always good and of the same quality (which isn’t usually the case). My favorites are the spicy garlic edamame, crunchy spicy roll, drunken noodles with shrimp and crispy whole flounder.

Their ramen and sushi were great! The pad Thai was just ok.

This is my current favorite restaurant for Thai and sushi! It has amazing ambiance and service, and the food is just delicious. We frequently bring friends from out of town here. I highly recommend the salmon lover sushi special, beef drunken noodles, and the akeno-tini cocktail.

When ordering from Uber eats, this place is a FAIL. NO wasabi and ginger with my sushi, even though my Uber Eats Comment specifically requested this?

Went here with some friends yesterday for dinner and loved it! The ambiance was great and decor was really nice. We had sushi, mocktails, and the miso soup and they did not dissapoint. The staff was also really friendly. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Absolutely LOVED our visit to Akeno today. My kids first time having sushi. Drinks are soooooo amazing. Virgin and delicious. As fabulous as they look in these photos. The staff (NEW and KWAN) were so nice, they explained the menu to my kids... helped them with chopsticks and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. I will definitely be back in to this little gem.

Worst sushi I ever had

The owner and his team are wonderful! The head chef serves the best and freshest cuts. I'm literally here on a weekly basis for the best Sushi in the DMV (Spelling Warning⚠️) Klang, Pai, Nadia, Aof, and Kwan, you guys make this my happy place.

Amazing toro

The esthetics of this place is really cool. Love the decor and the little Thai cafe vibes but that’s all I liked about this place. The sushi was incredibly underwhelming. We ordered 5 rolls and we were appalled by the lack of flavor and stale tasting rice. Too much spicy mayo, fish wasn’t great, and the combination of some of the rolls were off. We got one sushi wrong and the server apologized and gave us the correct one, which was nice. This pictures of the sushi look great, however the sushi itself just wasn’t. We had high expectations but we are back at sushi reality in northern Virginia, there is not a single decent sushi place 😭

LOVE LOVE LOVE Akeno. They just don't miss. Every plate is amazing, whether suishi, Thai, or other Japanese dishes. They're drinks are beautiful and tasty too. It can be busy and somewhat loud, but we never have a bad experience at Akeno.

When you enter the establishment you immediately notice the pink backdrop and colorful accents throughout. Was seated promptly and orders taken. The issue here is the service and quality of food. My guest and I ordered 3 dishes between us on a Monday evening and each of our dishes came out within 10 mins of each other. 2 hot meals and a sushi roll. Another table was seated shortly after us and had ordered multiple hot dishes and sushi was was served promptly. There was no care to see how our dishes were nor was asked for any refills on our drinks. A lot of standing around and no customer service.

This place is amazing! I dropped in for a quick lunch and they very kindly took one of the things I ordered off the bill (nothing at all wrong with it, just my first time trying and it wasn’t my thing). I had the negi toro maki roll, I’ve had a LOT and this is by far the best one! Amazing quality, wonderful service and atmosphere, can’t recommend enough!

I tried a margarita cocktail which was rather tasty and enjoyable. The ambiance was nice inside. It was a little loud but I had no trouble have a conversation with my friends. We tried the crunchy crunchy rolls and the red dragon roll which were both delicious. I would go back here and try more rolls and cocktails. Customer service was prompt and friendly.

Delicious food and drink. Had dinner with friends. Ordered akeno-tini, dragonroll, hamachi, and drunken noodle. All were delicious. Def recommended this place. Also the deco is def Instagram pic spot!!! Went there again tried different items too.

We are so happy we decided to give this place another try. We came here within two weeks of them opening as we live walking distance away. Well it certainly wasn’t bad I would say it was mediocre. But now this place has completely blown our mind! The sushi was fresh! Delicious! The service was on point! And I fell in love with their mocktail called the momo mojito! I can tell you that the flavor and taste absolutely match the complete and beautiful aesthetic of the beverage itself! We sat outside and got to enjoy the beautiful weather and I highly recommend this as a perfect place to have a great meal and a great time! Little tip: the Gyoza was too peppery for my palate and it doesn’t state this on the menu but my partner loved it and said it was very flavorful!

We casually stumbled on this spot on a Thursday evening and was pleasantly surprised by the amazing quality and variety. For the apps, I tried the spring rolls, which were super crispy with mildly spiced fillings and also the avocado cucumber roll which was creamy and refreshing! For the entree, we tried the drunken noodles and spicy green curry ramen, both had really good flavors and delicious! Given the price, the portion size was decent for the entree. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot if you are looking for a causal spot to enjoy high quality Japanese food!

The sushi was first rate, hit all the right notes.

Very expensive, $7.95 for 2pc Salmon Nigiri and $8.95 for Tuna. Pieces are also small, very disappointing portion. If the pieces were huge the price would be a little more tolerable, but they are quite small. The specialty roll I had was decent and 8pc. Overall I had 8 nigiri, Specialty Roll, one beer, and my bill with tip was $67. Simply too expensive for the quality received. Decent atmosphere especially with the outdoor seating but the price and only decent quality ruins it overall. For $67 I expect to be quite full but I would have had to spend $100 to reach that point. Can't say I will return unfortunately.

Just opened about ten days before our first visit. Smart and stylish decor, excellent food and friendly service. We both had an order of gyoza to start, which was very tasty but (in the sole quibble we have with our experience) it could have been warmer when served. My wife had a seaweed salad and a spider roll, and I had an Atlantic roll and a
Red Dragon roll. Great presentation on custom made sushi boats from Thailand. All outstanding! We will definitely be back.

Return visit 2 April 2022. I had two small plates, the Kurobuta pork sausages and the tempura shrimp & veggies. Excellent!

Another visit 29 April 2023. Still excellent. We were their first customers of the day, and I had gyoza, red dragon roll, and spicy crunchy salmon roll; my wife had the beef mussoman from the daily special menu. Everything was outstanding.

Food and presentation is great. Drinks are on par with downtown club prices. $11 for a Saporo, $11 for shots of Titos (which they billed us for Grey Goose and didn’t fix)

I went there by myself for a quick healthy work lunch. Great vibe, friendly sushi chef at the bar. The miso soup hit the spot and lunch special was delicious and enough, agedashi tofu was better than I expected. If the waitress was slightly nicer when talking to me, slowed down and took some time to explain my questions, the whole experience would’ve been great. I just needed to unwind for half an hour and not be treated like I’m alone at lunch and not important so I can be rushed to make up a decision for lunch. The food is great, the service has room for improvement.

Nigiri were so tiny and skimpy on both the fish and the rice!

My friends had booked a reservation for Akeno for a pre-wedding dinner for me. Not only was the food amazing, but the staff's knowledge about each ingredient in every dish we ordered was impressive! We were all vegetarians with varying dietary needs (lactose intolerant, sesame allergy, vegan) but every single dish we had was amazing! The mocktails we had were prepared with care (momo mojito, lavender fizz, virgin akeno) and the food was incredibly flavorful (we had sushi, drunken noodles, basil fried rice, and all of the vegetarian appetizers). This restaurant is an absolute gem. My wife and I started coming here and are always blown away by the customer service, ambiance and last but not lease the food. Its hard to stand out when it comes to sushi in this area because there is so much great restaurants to choose from, but this is by far my favorite. Nissa is very personable, took care of us and genuinely cares about our experience. I could not recommend this place enough!

I have been here twice. THe first time, we sat outside and ordered sushi. They were delicious! And we came back the second time to sit inside to enjoy the faux green wall and interior decor. We brought friends. Sushi this time was good but it wasn't "Wow" like the special rolls and it was expensive for what it is. Friends ordered Thai Pad Thai. It is good but not as good as our favorite Thai restaurant. But we still have a good time. Service is always nice! Drinks are pretty.

I got the akeno sushi and pad thai and I enjoyed both of them. One of the better pad thais I have eaten in the DMV area.

My experience here started a bit rocky, but it ended up to be wonderful. I made a reservation online a few days prior and the google assistant said that the restaurant confirmed my reservation. Leading up to my time slot, I was receiving a myriad of text and email reminders that my reservation was coming up. When I got to the restaurant, they said that they had no record of my reservation and had no availability... I was about 25 minutes early to my reservation so I wasn't too worried yet, but they were luckily able to get my party in since another reservation party did not show up. Once seated, I was treated extremely well and the food was great. The drinks were also incredibly adorable which was a plus! Very authentic and great vibe! I would recommend.

Fast service. However, average Thai foods imo. Not bad, not good. My crab fried rice is lack of flavor. Drunken noodles dish is very salty.. Katsu don is also lack of flavor and the pork is also soggy.

We gave this place a second chance and their failed it. From the moment we walked in and were confronted by the host with an attitude to the moment that we walked out we felf that we should have gone elsewhere. Half hour later the server comes to ask if we were ready to order food without even saying hello and taking our drink order. When food comes in sushi has a quarter of the amount of fish that other places have although presentation is nice. The place itself has a potential, nice decor and drinks are good too. Hopefully management looks at the reviews and will train staff and will make some changes so this place can have a chance to become a neighborhood favorite.

Definitely would recommend and coming back! Service, food presentation, and taste was great. Dumplings, sushi, and pad Thai was delicious. Excited to come back and try more.

Really great sushi bar! Dinned in last night with a friend. The place is just over a year old, and it is incredibly instagramable/picture worthy! The place is alot smaller than expected, you are shoulder length away from the next table. Which is a downside, because you can easily hear everyones conversations. Staff were very attentive, and kind. The sushi was AMAZING we ordered one Double Shrimp roll and one Double salmon roll. They were both delicious, and plated beautifully. As for starters we ordered; Gyoza, Crispy Spring roll, Side Tempura 3pcs, and Momo. Gyoza was good, the spring rolls were ridiculously small, still good but 2 for $6 felt like a scam. Momo was delicious, the sauce which it came with was amazing. Shrimp tempura was good aswell. As for entrees the Chicken Teriyaki with white rice was very delicious. To end the evening we had a Mango sticky rice, had never tried it before and was not a fan. Their menu is very friendly, it is in a book format with pictures. The Murasakino passion mocktail was great! The bill came out to just about $45 per person. Overall the restaurant is wonderful I will definitely be coming back and recommending it to anyone who is looking for a cute sushi place.

Akeno is culinary fire! Their sushi is wonderful, and their specialty rolls have surprising flavors that are delicious. The sushi is beautiful, and the flavor is out of this world. Our favorite roll was the Snow White. We didn't get any drinks this time, but we will be back! The atomosphere is very quiant with cute decor. Service was on point, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for a great experience

Pleasant ambiance with good quality food. The sushi could be better, but the appetizers and the Thai selections were on point. The members of the staff were attentive. Perfect place for a date with your special someone.

I enjoyed this sushi bar because it was not pre made and sitting waiting for you to come pick up. You could either stand there and wait for your Sushi order or they tell you when to come for pick up.

Here is the thing about this place - the food is really really good, however the service needs to be worked on. They have fresh fish and their rolls are delicious. Their cocktail wasn't bad either.

I wouldn't have given them 4 stars if they had done a good job on their service. We had places a reservation but when we went there, they couldn't find us and we ended up waiting for 20 mins. Also, once we got seated, it tool them more that 15 mins to take the order.

Had the Drunken Angel special entree. It was out of this world! Really liked the favor with the thin noodles and the shrimp and salmon were cooked perfectly. Service was outstanding as well. Will definitely be back!

Ordered chicken pad thai the other day. It was flavorless!! Tasted like water; they didn't seem to add any sauces or spices. The chicken tasted like grilled with no spices and had very small amount of egg, peanut and sprouts. Just awful!!

Ordered take out. Had the Ka Prow Chicken Bento. Came with a salad, Miso soup and sushi. Every thing was so fresh and delicious. Just the right amount of sweet and heat. The spring rolls were hot and crunchy. Will now be my go to spot for Asian cuisine.

Tried this place out recently and was very pleased with the cocktails and veggie sushi options. We will definitely be returning for date night.

Excellent sushi!!! Inside is a nice great for a lunch or diner date. Highly recommend the crunchy crunchy, but all the sushi is really top notch and always fresh.
