This was an awesome experience. The food was great and best of all it does not cost an arm. The owner was super friendly and treated you like family. Don't miss out on this wonderful experience and great quality food. You won't regret it. I had the dry aged ribeye with a side of chicken curry. Also, the homemade hot sauce was delicious.
Wow, I have so many positive things to say about the restaurant experience I have that I don’t even know where to start. First of, the owner was incredibly gracious and personable. He jokes with us, made us laugh, and was generous with his time and attention.
However that is just the beginning. While the exterior may be unsuspecting the food was INCREDIBLE. By far the best seafood I have had in SLC. The appetizer salad was tangy and refreshing. The whole menu was unique and so fresh!
Great date night, unique place to take guests and plenty of space yet private enough to have conversation or bring the whole family. The owner/ chef was knowledgeable, entertaining and friendly. The shelves had in season/ fresh produce. The sea bass and chicken dishes were amazing. It was beautiful presented. Very reasonably priced. We are already looking forward to going back. Also classes are taught there and you can buy sauces and spices.
Fantastic has always I had the lamb and noodles for lunch. For the people that has never been, the location doesn't have a menu so the cook ask you want you want after he tells the meat of the day. Everything there is gluten friendly that is why I eat there a lot. 9.18.23 fantastic 😍11.20.23 still fantastic all around. 12.17.24 fantastic as always. My work team and got to see how our food was made. Also tried different sauce mix for our food. Fantastic.
So, I read all these posts and my wife that we're going out for dinner tonight. First time. Oh, and it was so so so delicious! She had the Chilean sea bass and I had told the chef I want meat and you get to choose.
We forgot to tell him that my wife doesn't eat mayo, cream cheese or sour cream. And I'm allergic to peanuts and I also don't eat, cream cheese or sour cream. He said there is no good used for mayonnaise in this world anyway. But was shocked that we both don't eat cream cheese or sour cream. So he had a challenge.
Hai, was is the executive chef's name.
And he made the most delicious food I've eaten so far. I had prime rib which was rare, I don't eat rare. But this I did eat and it was so delicious tender, juicy... mmm!!! My wife had the Chilean sea bass and I took a bite (even though I don't eat seafood) it was so good, I would have got that if I knew. My wife had corn risotto on the side and I had mashed potatoes. They both were divine! We both had this pink and red side dish on our plate and we still don't know what it was but it was so delicious!
I would totally recommend this place! If you are looking for something very unique, this restaurant is the place to go. The concept is different, you choose your protein and then the chef will make you something. I've heard people say; I want something Chinese or you choose like I did. And they got something they didn't expect.
If you are looking for something untraditional this is the place. The waiter/chief/business owner greeted us when we walked in. He was very friendly and the food was amazing/fresh. They have no menu and he didn't explain how things worked there. (Never told us there was a "menu" on the wall of different meats.) He just asked steak or fish and listed a few sides. We said steak and he cooked whatever, no details on what steak or how we liked it. We didn't know what to expect. If I was explained about the list of meats I would have chosen differently, meat varies on season. We would like to go back now that we understand how it works. The chief told us that he has had people all over the world visit his restaurant. (Showed us a book of different bills, so cool.) The chief also gave us these delicious Belgian Chocolate cupcakes with our meal. I give the food and friendliness a 4.5-5 star and the chief's presentation (explaining his restaurant) a 2-3 star.
P.S. Make sure you are ready to spend the money, ~$40 a person. You get good portions though.
Ate:
-New York Steak w/ Stir Fry
-New York Steak w/ Potato
-Belgian Chocolate w/ whip cream
Best ribs I have ever had. The owner was very friendly. I can't recommend this place enough.
very good food, chef is very funny
I visited Thyme & Season twice when it Originally opened and maybe 3-4 yrs later both times where underwhelming, the owner / chef was a total jerk speaks down to his patrons treated the person in the back I actually think this person was special needs Terriblely! So much so my wife wanted to leave the food wa definitely not fresh As advertised frozen the restaurant actually looks like a storage unit stuff everywhere I was so confused and be prepared to be totally gouged being there actually isn't pricing it is made up as he decides on the cost of your meal ,I'm actually shocked ppl.praise and give it high reviews I don't have an axe to grind this is my honest opinion after trying to dine the twice Never again.
The food is delicious but I didn't like that there was no menu, I don't know what I'm going to eat and there are no prices, so the chef chose the food for me, I don't like it, It was $100 for two plates.
10/10 experience and food. The flavors were incredible and the chef was very personable and made the dining experience so fun.
Wow, I have so many positive things to say about the restaurant experience I have that I don’t even know where to start. First of, the owner was incredibly gracious and personable. He jokes with us, made us laugh, and was generous with his time and attention.

I believe my review was removed somehow, as has been complained about by others here (unless those too were removed). The owner is the single rudest customer-facing person I have ever had the displeasure to meet. He gave me a bad cupcake and shooed me out of his restaurant because I asked about allergens.
Fantastic has always I had the lamb and noodles for lunch. For the people that has never been, the location doesn't have a menu so the cook ask you want you want after he tells the meat of the day. Most bizarre, mediocre dining experience of my life. Thought the food must be incredible to compensate for the owner’s arrogant, rude, and unhelpful behavior and the dirty, cluttered atmosphere. But alas, the food was pricey and poor quality. Have no idea why this place has such a good overall review. We got a good story out of it though!
Really enjoy the food and the chef. It's a great experience to eat here, not your typical restaurant.
I always enjoy Hai's cooking. Phở is the best.
Chef Hai is the most interesting man in the world. Seriously if you get talking with him he can comment on any subject and is very perceptive. It's a fun experience to dine here with him.
The food here is also amazing! Everything is fresh and local either from his garden or farmers in the area. You'll be surprised what you can find here because there are sides and dishes that take ideas from cuisines all over the world and blend together so creatively. You can tell that Chef Hai is doing what he wants to do and it's reflected in all facets of his operation.
I highly recommend this dining experience for anyone.
I'm a website builder and I can't see a website of you. Would like to me to build a good website for your restaurant?
Best steak I have ever had.
That is some of the best food my wife and I have ever had. We got the Chilean Sea Bass and the Prime Rib, both were spectacular.
I have never eating anywhere like this before or any food like this. I’m about to annoy all my friends and family about this place. Just come and try it yourself. The best place I’ve been to in a long time.
Menu lacks prices (sure, all items can be fresh and purchased the same day, thus fluctuating, but a chalkboard with "today's prices" would be great), resulting in a surprise when paying. Had I known the portion size of a steak was enough to feed a family, I'd have changed what I ordered to save $$$. For the price, it's a great steak, and likely close to the cost of what you'd get from the grocery store.
The atmosphere of the place feels like you're dining in a gas station or warehouse... or a food truck that grew a roof. It was an exceptional experience, one worth having, but I don't see myself going back.
Chef Hai did a phenomenal job catering to our "large" party of 10. He took care of us, educated us, and made the restaurant experience a unique one. Especially with someone who has a gluten allergy, he catered to my needs and helped me felt heard and seen as a recently diagnosed Celiac. If I could give more stars, I would. You rock, T&S Team!
This is the best food in Utah. We come here as often as well can. You cannot go wrong with anything. The lamb and ribeye being 2 of my personal favorites. Chef Hai is a great host and the heart of this amazing place. If you want to pay for fancy chandeliers and vaulted ceilings, impersonal wait staff and a high overhead this isn't for you. If you want delicious high quality food and actual human interaction, this is it. Also, the portions are more than fair. I usually end up with left overs.
Thank you for a wonderful meal! My husband had the ribeye steak and I had the sea bass. Quick, friendly service and plentiful potions. We loved getting to know Chef Hai. We highly recommend eating here.
Very healthy organic food. Very friendly chef. He even took me behind to the kitchen and taught me how to cook a chicken sautee! Thank you chef Hai!
Great service great steak !!
I’ve had this place on my list for years but honestly it was a super strange experience. The food wasn’t as good as I expected based on reviews. My fish was well-cooked, but lacking in seasonings, and the side dishes were super lackluster.
The chef was nice, but it was off putting how he spent the entire time walking around to brag about his connections and how people come from all over to eat there.
The restaurant needs a makeover. I felt like I was eating in a cluttered garage, but not in a charming way. For the price paid per plate, it should be a more pleasant atmosphere.
The concept is phenomenal. I love the idea of ordering a protein and having the rest of the dish be a surprise. However, the execution was lacking.
I am sad to say that I won’t be returning.
Food was dried out a waste of money disappointed
Very eclectic, little bit hoarder like place. This is not one of those curated atmosphere chain places....the food very good and Chef Hai who has an intense personality will serve you. I go every once in a while. Little bit expensive.
This is one of my very favorite places to eat! I would highly recommend it.
The guy that runs this place is a character, but he makes some of the best food you can get in north salt lake.
We had my sons wedding luncheon planned a head of time with the owner at this place. . When we arrived we were shoved into the storage space. There was no one to cook our meals and the owner was very rude. It was so sad that we have never been back since.
This isn't the nicest place (far from it) but it's the best food in Utah. The chef there is legit. This is my wife's and I favorite place to eat. Unique experience. Highly recommend

JUST DO IT. You will NOT be disappointed in the food. VERY generous portions of VERY VERY good, fresh food, and a gregarious, friendly owner that makes your experience even better. Wonderful person with a great heart (you can see it).
Just go.
The prime rib was excellent. So good. I have one suggestion for the rib: smoke it with oak wood (instead of mesquite). The top smokehouses in Texas (Franklin’s, etc) use oak. Oh my gosh - he won’t regret it.
Food was amazing and the chef was even better !
Chef Hai gave us incredible service. We loved our food, it was so fresh and the flavor was amazing. Great price with generous servings. Definitely coming back!!
Hai's place is awesome and the food was great. Definitely check this place out if you're in UT.
We were SHOCKED when we saw our check. It was less than half of what we thought it would be for the quality and portions of food we got. Will definitely be returning.
It was amazing dinner,, in my opinion this restaurant is the best place in Salt Lake City Utah ,, we had a great dinner thank you for the magnificent hospitality 👌
Amazing food, everything very fresh, great service, chief is personal , pays attention to every single client in details .
Thyme & Seasons is a hidden gem! Chef Hai always remembers you and treats you like family. While is has a list of food items there is no menu. It is best to tell him your favorite and let him come up with the dish for you. We love to go as a family and have him create a platter for us.
Next best tip is to buy a bag of his rice (we call it pink rice) on your way out!
Such a cool, unique dining experience I love that it’s in a little local shop and you can tell that the menu is super heartfelt with tons of passion and effort put into it. It was delicious.
Very amazing food! Seabass was amazing and so was the steak! I cannot wait to come here again! The owner was so kind and had some very beautiful artwork and other things to look at as we waited for food. Definitely telling people about this place!
Come for the food, you'll enjoy the people. Hidden treasure!
The food was good but the price was ridiculous. They charged me $180 for 2 people before taxes and tips. I ordered lamb. For $180 dollars you eat in a better place with a better atmosphere and better service. Before you order make sure check the price or you will get over charge. I don’t recommend this place, there are a lot of better places out there and you will pay less.
It's always an amazing experience here!! Chef Hai brings full flavor and variety, and his personalized service is rare. I highly recommend Thyme & Seasons!
Don't go here if you have issues with heartburn/food textures.
The staff seemed very nice, but the head chef/owner was not.
The first and only time I went here, I went with my parents, with no former knowledge on what the restaurant had besides fish.
I asked the chef/owner if I could get my fish without his seasoning (which he puts on every dish and promotes constantly), because at the time I was having intense heartburn problems.
It was stress-induced heartburn, and it was so bad that anything entering my stomach was enough to trigger it; so much as taking a pill made it act up. So needless to say I didn't want a spice rub on my fish, as it would no doubt leave me miserable the rest of the night.
At first, when I asked, he started going on about how it wasn't that spicy, and he seemed so insulted by the request that I tried to explain my heartburn problem. He said he had heartburn too and didn't have any issues with the fish, and insisted the fish would be incredibly bland if it didn't have his rub on it (which I didn't care about- at that point I just wanted something that wouldn't make me suffer).
I had bad social anxiety at the time, and was so uncomfortable from this whole thing that I just agreed when he suggested a light coat of the rub.
The rest of the night was very uncomfortable. At one point he started mocking me and saying I should become Amish if I want my food so bland.
To ask me if he had put enough of the rub on it, he came to my table, dangling the raw piece of fish in his hand, and put it close to my face, asking if it looked too seasoned for me.
I was so uncomfortable that as soon as I finished eating I waited in the car for my parents to finish. He wasn't remotely understanding and made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. His food has very little substance outside of his spice rub, and if you have any sort of food problems that might require accommodation, do not go here.
Some friends and I went recently and were shocked to get billed $100 per plate for dinner. I have traveled all over the world and although the food was delicious, it was not a $100 per plate meal. There is no menu and no prices. I get that it is a risk but we felt like we were taken advantage of. The meat was flavored well but raw in the middle and the sides were extremely basic and not at all unique.
The owner was friendly but a bit of a chatterbox and talked all about himself and his accomplishments. If you plan to go to visit with friends or family you won't get a quiet meal to socialize. He interrupts a lot.
The atmosphere is dumpy which would normally make for a yummy and reasonably priced meal. The atmosphere doesn't at all match what he charges for an evening out.
Anyhow, BEWARE! If you don't have deep pockets definitely don't go here. I am not sure how he gets repeat customers but from the looks of the reviews it sounds like we were taken advantage of as it looks like meals are normally $30-$50 each. It's too bad as I would have like to gone again but not for what we were charged.
Best Pho we've ever had.
The food and service was amazing. We will definitely be back.
Dirty restaurant. Good wasn't good. However the owner was super cool
I love Chef Hai and his good is delicious 😋
Unique doesn’t begin to describe this place. Great food and awesome chef in a fun atmosphere. Really enjoyed our night.
Hilarious owner. Totally different ordering style. Delectable food. This guy was a chef at four-star restaurant and it shows. An experience like no other!
We love dining at Thyme & Seasons. The food and service are always wonderful.
Chef was warm and welcoming. Authentic fresh pho, best pho I've had in Utah 🙌 high quality food and staff, this place is a must!
Really good prime rib. The owner is very nice and does s great job taking care of everyone.
Premium service and ingredients. Don’t overthink this one.
Pho had absolutely no taste, I strongly recommend do not order the pho if you want to enjoy your meal, rack of lamb was sub par, but oddly the food is amplified by the service and atmosphere. Drinks are serve yourself. No prices on menus. Our group of 3 paid $140 with tip. Questionable 🤨 book with money will peak your confidence in the food quality, is more to compensate for the lack of taste.
Very healthy food. Two man show, so don't expect great service. The owner tries hard.
Different but the food is amazing!! Probably a couple fans would be nice or be prepare to change clothes after!
Beware. Web shows prices as moderate, but when the bill came our dinners were about $30.00 each. While the chicken pad thai was good, we felt a little ripped off.
Honestly a hidden gem in Bountiful. The owner was incredibly nice and very funny. It's non-traditional and there is no menu. He cooks based off of what he has that day which is something I haven't experienced before. I got the prime rib and it was delicious. Will be going again for sure!
The best fish ever. Didn’t expect it to be that good.
FREAKING AMAZING! One of the best places I've ever visited! It's more than amazing food, it's an amazing experience! The chef is fantastic! If the food wasn't so amazing I'd dare say that he is the best part of this restaurant! A heart as big as his talent ❤️
Thyme & Seasons is a fantastic. The owner is very nonchalant and friendly and provides a very unique dining experience. He asks you straight up your food preferences and makes you something based on what he has fresh at the moment. There is hardly a menu and no prices for anything. If you ask for prices he'll say something along the lines of "price is all relative sweetheart". So it's best to be fairly cognizant of what your ordering if your concerned about price. The food was amazing and the portions were huge which was awesome. My wife and I both got huge Ribeyes with a salad, drink, and pasta and it was about $100 after the tip. While it's a bit more expensive, the quality and experience make up for it. We plan on going back soon!
Loved it!
Wow! What an experience! This is a really cool place and the owner is super friendly and has a fun personality. The food is fresh and seasoned well. We even got free cupcakes!
We loved our visit to Thyme & Seasons. It feels like a place you would find in New York or San Francisco, not Bountiful Utah. The inside looks like a disaster and we had no idea what we were going to get until the food came. The food was amazing. When I asked about the sauce that was on the Sea Bass, he took us back to the kitchen and showed us how to make it. He then shared a bunch of recipes with us. I bought some the spices he sells to try it at home. Then just before we left, a group of 4 other customers stood up and started singing barber shop quartet music. It was quite an experience.
I just had the best rack of lamb ever !!!
This place is now my favorite restaurant.
I’ll be honest we came here for all the high recommendations. This was the most expensive mediocre meal I’ve ever had. Very disappointed. $78 for a Pad Thai and Bass entree NOT including tip. I was willing to spend some money on the meal but I didn’t feel this matched the price even close. I’m not a picky eater. But I do not get the hype on this one. Owner is real nice so there’s that I suppose.
Every time I come is a delight!! The food is beyond delicious! I always scrape my plate clean
Never in my life have I discovered such a gem. It’ll be quite a challenge to write a sufficient enough review to capture its originality, but here goes nothing.
First thing is first, as you enter the restaurant please leave all expectations at the door. Forget all your assumptions about what a restaurant should be, what it should do, how it should look, etc. This is not your run of the mill place. In order to truly appreciate what this spot offers, one must be willing to surrender themselves to a new experience.
There is in fact no menu, it honestly looks like a sketchy/hole in the wall store with some tables thrown in, the owner is intense, and you don’t know how much dinner will cost until you pay the bill. But it’s more than it seems. Truthfully, many of these things may be off putting for some. If that’s a no go for you, then perhaps this restaurant isn’t the right fit.
If that’s fine, then I’ll discuss how it works.
The routine is quite simple: you come in, grab a drink, grab a seat, and then the owner tells you what protein options are available and what sides he’s offering. But the catch is your food will always be a surprise no matter how you approach the ordering process. Yes you can choose your meat and side, but how it’s prepared and to what extent it’s seasoned and/or dressed will only reveal itself after the owner delivers your plate.
This restaurant is all about trusting and believing in the chef. Much like riding on an airplane or having a surgery. You let them lead and hope they get you there safely. Well at Thyme and Seasons, you place your trust in the chef; you hope he delivers you a spectacular meal. It can be quite intimidating, and I wouldn’t recommend for the faint of heart or for picky eaters.
But I am so happy I let him lead. He surprised us by bringing out two huge plates of delicious food. Each plate contained a large, perfectly cooked, deliciously seasoned, juicy fish steak that was either accompanied by hearty, sweet, and savory squash curry with purple rice or red pasta with vegetables. For dessert, we had complementary mini cupcakes with real whipped cream. Everything was exquisite!
I have to say I really enjoyed the unconventional concept. Never have I ever been so excited for dinner! For me, the money thing honestly wasn’t an issue. Instead of worrying about a dumb material object, I shifted my focus to enjoying this man’s quirky experience, humble food, and good company. You only live once.
What really sets this place a part, and why you just have to go with the flow is the level of quality and authenticity this restaurant offers. The owner really knocks himself out with how much work and effort he applies to his cuisine. You’re eating produce from his damn garden for crying out loud! He also goes as far as having fresh fish flown in. The level of quality is second to none! The way I see it is he’s literally sharing his art with you, which is such a treat to be part of. He’s also got the biggest personality and energy. He’s so proud, for good reason, and will spout or boast to whoever will listen. To me it’s blaring obvious that this restaurant is loved, and that’s precisely what I want to see when I dine out. Sure you can eat somewhere else and pass this place entirely, but by doing so you forfeit the stories that could’ve been if you chose to eat here instead.
We enjoyed the experience, albeit a bit quirky, the interactions with the chef, and the food. That is, until we received the bill of $150 before taxes for a party of three. We were completely shocked by the prices, which are not advertised and do not line up with the interior of the restaurant, service, or overall experience. Frankly, had the bill been $75 before taxes (for lamb, prawns, and a small bowl of pho), I would have thought it was expensive.
Please be forewarned about the exorbitant cost of a meal at this otherwise great restaurant.
Walked to the door, which was crowded with electrical cords, buckets, snow shovel etc. Looked inside the front window and papers were piled high in the window. The windows were filthy. Who eats here? It screams give me food poisoning.
This is my new favorite restaurant in the world. It’s crazy because I’ve lived in this area for many years and have driven past this place many times, but I didn’t even realize it was a restaurant. I thought it was just a place that sold fancy seasonings. My friend convinced me to go here and I can’t even describe how blown away I am by their food. I’m a huge seafood lover and if you enjoy fish, this is the place to go. You will eat the best fish you’ve ever had in your entire life. I love talking to the owner too, he’s a really interesting person. I will be going back to this restaurant for years to come, hopefully.
Phenomenal food! Their house made hot sauce is so delicious I had to buy some from the owner/chef. Wonderful staff. Generous portions. Great atmosphere. Just an all around intriguing and delicious experience. Don't skip the Belgian Chocolate dessert!
I absolutely love this place. There isn't really a menu, the chef/owner let's you know what they have in stock and the different things they can do with it. I've never had the same thing twice. It's such a good vibe. I'm really glad this restaurant made it through COVID as it's definitely a special treat.
There's no menu, just options. Trust in the food, it's amazing.
I had the pho. It had ZERO flavor. I have had excellent pho, good pho, fair pho and I have never pushed my plate away. With this I did. Horrendously overpriced to boot. I was excited to try out this place bc of recommendations, but no thanks
Amazing and wonderful. The owner is kind and hilarious. The food is to die for. The flavors are so unique and complex. It's nothing like I've ever had before! Soo tasty!
This was some of the best food we have ever had, comparable with world-class restaurants in Paris. The lamb was to die for. The bass was mind-bending. Let Chef Hai take the wheel and drive - doing things his way is unconventional, but worth it. Lamb ain't cheap -- our meal was $125 + tip. Worth it!
We had an amazing experience. The food was all delicious. We had a work dinner and the food was ready for us when we arrived. The selection was fantastic and we sampled many different dishes from all over the world. The Chilean Sea Bass was probably our favorite dish but everything really was amazing. We all had a great evening.
Best prime rib experience of my life! And my wife’s chilean sea bass with southwest rub was amazing!
Wow first time here. Wish I would have took a picture of the food but I was too hungry to deal with that. Chef Hai is top notch. He's like one of those chefs you see on TV. Loads of personality warm and welcoming in his own crazy way. Really like this guy. Really like this place. Awesome food, a cut above. Don't believe me come check it out yourself. Thank you Chef Hai for your hospitality 🤠👌
We’ve been coming here for years and always leave so happy and completely satisfied. And if you arrive hungry, you’ll never be disappointed because Hai the owner will literally cook you anything you want! There are too many good things to recommend — just stop in and you won’t be sorry. The food and fish and meat and vegetables are all so fresh and he prepares everything so well. Hai is an expert chef and genuinely wants all his guests to eat well and leave happy.
Great fresh seafood with a fantastic cozy feel. The staff are super friendly too. Definitely worth a stop if you're passing through SLC.
It looks like a hole in the wall, but the food is great. I don't think I've ever had a better piece of sea bass.
The food is very good and the owner very nice to talk to a family restaurant
Chef Hai is such a great character. We got the prime rib, which was easily some of the best tasting and most tender prime rib we've had in a long time. We also tried the Chilean Sea Bass, and it was so flavorful and had a great texture. Chef Hai's balsamic dressing was also great.
Wow! Honestly the best steak I’ve ever had. Very different style of “restaurant.” It felt more like a home cooked meal from your best friend. It felt like we were part of the family. It didn’t feel like we didn’t need permission to be there but that we were welcomed in and he was happy to have us. We got our own drinks and take out boxes, it was a fun experience. The owner was amazing. I picked my meat and he told me what sides could come with it. When I asked what he recommended he told me he has never told anyone what to eat and I would need to decide. He showed us his book of currency from people who have come to visit him from all over the world. Definitely not a place for everyone but we absolutely loved the experience. We can’t wait to come back!
This is my favorite hidden gem of Bountiful. My only regret is finding it after I moved away. Driving past it over the years I would have never suspected a truly gourmet restaurant for a good price. Hai was an amazing host telling us about his story and his love for cooking. We'll be going back and hope we can really become the good friends that Hai made us feel like. We went there to try his Prime Rib Pho and discovered he can do so much more. Just go, tell him what you want, and he'll recommend something. It'll be good, the type of good that makes you stop after one bite and wonder where you just went. The experience was a journey in excellent quality, locally sourced ingredients. His enlightenment will help you understand. Thanks Hai!
This place gave me my new favorite food. Also the owner is right there the whole time super attentive and helpful and just really nice.
Wow, There are no words. You just need to come and try it. So impressed. Chef Hai Le Fitzgerald is truly talented, passionate, and detailed with his craft and it shows through the food and service. Top quality ingredients, recipes, and service.
Super delicious food! And the chef is really nice! We love it here!
Just do it! Don’t be put off by the exterior. Go in with an open mind and know you will get incredible, in-season food, by a friendly and skilled chef. This was a fabulous experience and we loved everything he served us!
This place offers a personal chef like experience. They cooked me one of the best steaks I have had in a while. The greens are plentiful and fresh. The portions are plenty. Easy going feel with fine dining level food.
The food sort of tasted rotten…great staff though. My boyfriend thought most of it was fine though…but said he wouldn’t go back.
This place is an experience. A positive experience you're unlikely to forget :-)
The food was fantastic, great service. The food was fresh. Prices were reasonable. No reservations required.👍
Much more expensive than expected, and with no prices listed, that's frustrating. My wife and I each ordered prime rib, hers with prawns, mine with scallops. Mine came with two small scallops, hers with two small prawns. Before tip: $112. While good, the food was not THAT good, and the ambiance... well let's just say it's certainly no Pago or Bambara. Place should be called Thyme & Money.
So so good! First time here and it was such a great and new experience. Will definitely be going again
We paid $165 for our meal for four people. It was definitely not worth it. The owner is pushy and not a great listener when it came to ordering. We were not given options on our sides dishes. Our meat was delicious but my son's rack of ribs were cold in the middle. the potatoes, pilaf, and curried vegetables were lukewarm and served from a lunch room bulk metal container. The prices are not available prior to paying for your food. The service was poor. I found my own napkins and take home boxes. We also ordered the Pho which was tasteless with few fresh herbs. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Absolutely lovely
I cannot find the right words to explain what a treasure this restaurant and especially the restauranteur is. Our city is enriched by it's mere presence.
It's a wonderfully fun and informative experience every time. You've got to let go of your expectations and take it as it is, because what it is, is everything you've been missing.
6/5 stars.
Chef Hai, you're a master. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I'd love to give a real review but we weren't able to order over the phone. The food may be excellent but the menu posted here online isn't accurate. We called planning to order 4 meals we saw listed here with pictures but were told the prime rib wasn't available and when I didn't immediately have another dish name ready I panicked and said lamb to be told he only did full racks for $99. When I asked if I was accidentally trying to order for a catering company he was irritated and hung up on me. I wasn't trying to waste his time or be rude, we were driving up from SLC specifically to try the place and were trying to order ahead so we wouldn't keep anyone past closing since we couldn't get there until 8:15. It might be great in person but I'm not brave enough to go now.
WOW! A wonderful experience, so delicious, a foodies heaven. Prime rib was to die for, tried 7 different fish on our family style platter, each one was fresh and indubitably superb!
Risotto, fresh corn, vegetable medley side dishes were 2 👍. Chicken curry with purple rice mix, chicken & pasta, pork bun all were stupendous.
We were so excited to go from all the reviews people have left, but we won't be returning. From the moment we got there, the chef was very in our face and rude with comments on our order and giving no information of what we would be getting. He also commented on what we fed our children claiming they would develop horrible food allergies and citing his years of work in the local hospital. No employees were wearing gloves or hair nets and the rags they were using were visibly dirty. The portions are very large, but the meat wasn't cooked properly with burnt dry pork and a cold steak. As soon as we left, we felt sick and as I am writing this review I am waiting to see how the food tastes the second time around. If you want to go there, you're more than welcome to. But I feel that if you're not a long time personal friend of the chef, you're treated like lower class customers and the food really wasn't worth that.
I work in the food industry and was absolutely shocked that at such a highly rated restaurant, none of the workers wore gloves, or hairnets and they would take a drink and not wash their hands. I didnt see a handwashing station at all. I watched the person preparing our food take a drink, and then proceed to touch the noodles with his ungloved hands and put it on our plate. This should be brought up to the health inspector. It should be noted that my husband did indeed get food poisoning there. Also, we had our 6 month old baby try some of the food (she was eating some tomato) and he asked us if we knew about food allergies in babies. We said yes. He said that he is a licensed dietician and that babies shouldn't eat anything for the first year. I told him that her pediatrician told us to start her on solids. He then proceeded to tell us, "you do what you want with your kid." Very very unprofessional and rude.
I think this is the most delicious lamb I’ve ever had. Unique way to order—just tell the chef what kind of meat you want and he prepares. Better yet just ask for whatever he wants to give you. Building is bare bones but the food is excellent.
WOW, Thyme & Seasons and Chef Hai are amazing! This was not just a meal, it was a dining experience. The quality of the food was superb, cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor. The dry aged beef ribeye and rack of lamb were fantastic but the side dishes we tried were equally enjoyable and each complimented the other in the meal. Equal to the quality of the food is the experience. Chef Hai is personable and he is what makes it a dining experience. Guaranteed we will be back soon and we cannot wait to try other creations from Chef Hai.
Not a fancy place. They run a spice distribution company out of the restaurant also and it shows. They ask meat or fish. Everything is fresh. Had the BBQ chicken and fresh halibut. Too expensive but excellent flavor.
Some of the best food I've had. You can tell that he has a passion for great tasting food.
Not only was the food SPECTACULAR, but meeting Hai in person and listening to his stories and hilarious sayings had us rolling the whole evening. It was better than dinner and a show! Our group of 14 chose to do "family style" and boy did Hai deliver! We sampled soooo many menu items and each one was packed with fresh flavor and pure deliciousness. As we filtered out the door at the end of our evening, Hai chased us down in the parking lot to give us our dessert that he'd inadvertently forgotten to serve us. Who does that?! Hai does! His staff and the service was just incredible. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Try this place right now and change your culinary life forever!
Great food and service
Hai welcomed us right away and had our large group laughing before long. Food was phenomenal! Thank you so much Hai!
Food was sooo delicious, exactly like other reviewers said! 100% recommended :)
Best seafood I’ve maybe ever had?? Got the sea bass. The owner or whoever was running the place had this infectiously happy energy. The quirky ambiance is part of the fun, give it a try!
Find dining at reasonable prices with a casual atmosphere.
Wonderful experience! Very laid back and incredible food with a friendly vibe!!
This place is amazing. Not a very traditional restaurant which I like!! The owner/chef is funny, personable and an amazing chef! Best food I've had in a long time.
This is the most flavorful food I have ever had. They cook their meat to perfection and it's always so fresh. My taste buds water just thinking about it. It's a must stop wherever we're in town. We purchased some of their seasonings and I can't wait to try preparing some food at home.
I've been hearing about Thyme and Seasons for years, and have wanted to go. I finally did for my birthday, and I was not disappointed! Chef Hai lived up to his reputation! I had the Chilean sea bass, and it was easily one of the best pieces of fish I've ever eaten (which is saying something when I've eaten amazing seafood all over the US as well as 4 other countries).
The atmosphere was odd (my mom said it was like eating gourmet food in a convenience store lol). But if you're willing to look past the hodgepodge of the restaurant, you'll be in for a special treat! Five stars all the way!
Me and my wife’s first time there, we heard such great things. But as soon as we walked in the waiter seemed to be immediately annoyed with us, and was very rude with asking what we wanted as if we were an inconvenience. When my wife asked him a question he responded “hurry and answer my question” in a very tired sounding tone. He was extremely friendly with every other table, which we hoped he would start being, but was not. When my food arrived my half rack of lamb was cooked on the outside and refrigerator temp at the center. When I told him of the issue, he tried to explain why the meat was cold. We continued to be polite to him, until we left. We may give it another try at a later time, but disappointed with the service and food after hearing such wonderful things about this restaurant.
Really great, fresh food. I ordered the salmon and salad for lunch and it was delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Portions were large too!
Every time we visit SLC we make sure to stop by for a dinner at this place. The food and atmosphere at this place is so unique and welcoming, there is no such place anywhere in the US (or world :) ). Our plans to fly in to SLC in December just to try their beef wellington 🤤🤤🤤
Great dinning experience. Delicious fish & beef options with stir-fry or noodles.
A hidden gem, always delicious and the owner/head chef is always willing to share his knowledge with you. It’s a must go.
Definitely a different/casual experience and atmosphere accompanied by delicious food - you choose meat or seafood or vegetarian and tell the chef when he comes to your table.
We has the curry and some prime rib with a 'vegetable medly' (beets/squash/spices) that was a highlight.
This place is an must-visit if you are traveling through or visiting the Salt Lake area. The Pho is the best we have had east of the Pacific Northwest. No MSG, made fresh. The owner grows his own rice and makes his own seasoning. The owner is fun to interact with as well. I would give 6 or more stars if google would let me.
We have been twice. Don't let the appearance fool you. This is the best dining experience I had in my 2 years in Utah. He combines Asian spices with steakhouse portions of fish and meat. Wow. If you are in the SLC area try this place.
Incredible. I will be back. Exquisite food and a unique experience.
Everything is so fresh and delicious. The steak in particular is to die for! It's kind of a confusing setup because there's no menu & no prices in writing. The chef just has fun with creating whatever he chooses. He gives you recommendations and you can give him a vague idea of what you're looking for (beef, seafood, pasta, salad, etc) and he'll listen and make you something custom and wonderful.
Definitely a very unique experience. The ambience feels like you'll probably end up with something either amazingly good, or plain terrible. I ordered a ribeye steak, which, from the look of it was huge! I was very excited. However, to my disappointment, it lacked seasoning in any way. In addition, it was very burnt, and hardly cooked through. If I go to a restaurant, and it says rib eye steak on the wall, I expect something with at least garlic, salt, and pepper, and I would like to be asked how I want my food. Not so. It wasn't seasoned at all, and then served with stir fry. Maybe the whole theme of the restaurant is to have fusion dishes, but for me it was not a good experience. Luckily, I didn't go on my own dime, as I will not be revisiting this place.
The owner was friendly and the food was excellent. Ordered the ribeye steak and came out fast and delish. Would recommend.
If you are on a budget, this place is not for you! You won’t know your final bill until your are done. That was a surprising lesson for my in laws who took us out. ;) It was 10 of us and we had to sit pretty close to each other. Good food, but definitely way overpriced.
Not simply a restaurant but a culinary experience. The expertise of the Chef and his well trained Sous-chefs are unmatched anywhere in Utah and likely the nation. If you are a lover of the true art of cooking look no further than Thyme & Seasons.
Not quite sure how to review this place. The food was good— just not sure it was good enough to warrant its price (which isn’t known really until the bill arrives) or the atmosphere.
The place is a bit messy. I guess there’s some charm to it. I don’t know. But it was a mix of a dining area, unorganized market, and kitchen. Stacks of seasonings and pots/pans and styrofoam clamshells are everywhere. The staff all seem to be dressed in whatever suited them at the time. The chef— nice guy— seemed more akin to a customer than an owner. Nice people but just be aware when you arrive.
We were seated immediately. The chef took our order which was a bit odd. The menu is written on the north wall, but the key is that you can only order what’s currently available. Although a lot of meats were listed, I could only choose between the chicken or lamb. The rest? Gone I guess. We had to get our own drinks from a fountain style soda machine.
My wife got the Thai chicken curry. Her food was good, just kinda soupy— watery. Lots of liquid in the bottom of the bowl. But it was good.
The lamb was good. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and a salad of some kind.
The chef told us that he seasons everything with this Asian spice which he sold by the bag to willing customers. And he even said he gets the lamb for some cheap price and all he does is cook it with this Asian spice. So immediately I thought— where’s the culinary skill in that? Without knowing the price before ordering, I kinda suspected I’d pay for a culinary experience without the culinary experience.
Again, good… just not THAT good. Our bill was $90 before tip. Just seems like a lot for what we got.
Amazing Food, Amazing Atmosphere, Excellent Owner and Chef!
They close during the day everyday for 3 hours. Never seen a business like that.
If you want the best food cooked perfect then this is the place. Pick your protein(s) and soon you will be very happy and full.
So yummy!
Absolutely fantastic dining experience. Could not more highly recommend.
Very good food
Unique atmosphere and attentive chef. Menu is ambiguous but it works. It’s a conversational ordering process with the chef himself. The prime rib was good and the Chilean Sea Bass was phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back and try more of his amazing creations.
Incredible food and an atmosphere that’s homey and warm. Awesome experience!!
A unique and wonderful experience. Don’t be dissuaded by the storefront appearance or the clutter on the inside.
As you enter, the owner/chef/host will greet and seat you. He then asks what you want to order through a serious of questions. The “menu” (think cafe rio with meat/entree options) is printed on the wall but you won’t need it. He will just ask for your protein preferences and then list off many side options. He then creates an extremely creative meal that’s absolutely packed with flavor.
Better even than the food was the hospitality. Some reviewers were taken aback by his east coast personality, but he truly is a kind man who cares about his customers. He went above and beyond in his conversation with us. He also has some cool books with currency from across the world, signed by former customers.
It is on the pricier side ($55+tip for 2) but you can certainly tell him you want a cheaper option and he’ll figure something out.
The food is always awesome! Fresh, high-quality and great flavors. The experience is different than a normal restaurant but so worth getting a little outside your comfort zone. The Chef is wonderful and very knowledgeable about his craft. You won't be disappointed as long as you just let him take care of you the way he like. Prices are very reasonable for what you get.
We went here for my husbands birthday. It was no big deal just somewhere to eat after a long hike. We had no idea this would be such an incredible experience! The Chef is a literal master. He cooks you anything you want and it is all so healthy and delicious. He will also give you tastes of whatever else he has cooking. It’s like you’re in the kitchen with him. His ingredients are the most fresh as he grows all his food right outside his restaurant. We got huge yummy portions and he dipped some chocolate covered strawberries for us. He also sat and talked to us about where to locally source our food, since it feels like the grocery store prices have gone up and the food is getting worse. He showed us his garden and explained how to get our own soil ready. He picked all kinds of veggies and just gave them to us. I felt totally edified after our visit. The chef is also such a good guy. Many people walked into his restaurant, including a police officer and he gave them snacks and drinks just to be nice. He sent me recipes and told us to come back when he had too many crops. I honestly feel that we didn’t pay enough for that experience.
FANTASTIC FOOD and an amazing owner!!! Enjoyed a Steak and salad there today, for lunch. Best steak and salad I've EVER eaten!! It's MUST GO to restaurant!!
