Thai Cafe offers family-style authentic Thai dishes and seafood in Downtown, Temple Texas.
It was my first time in Austin! Just googled and tried this place. The food was super authentic. Reminding me of Thailand so much. Service was good. Stuff took care of me very well and was super friendly! My favorite dish was Steamed fish with thai herbs making me feel like home so much. Definitely come back here if I visit Austin again!!! 10/10!!!
I never really write reviews but here we go. I was truly excited about trying the food here. I ordered salt and pepper prawns, chicken fried rice and mango sticky rice. I feel like the food is very basic to be over priced as it is. Paying $27 dollars for 7 pieces of shrimp (they were not prawns) with peppers and onions was crazy. The sticky rice was not fully cooked and the times that I enjoyed mango sticky rice it was cooked with calrose or sushi rice NOT jasmine rice, i thought it was odd especially for $8 dollars. The chicken fried rice was extremely basic and didn't have much flavor. I'm not sure if it was because i ordered my food to go but this was pitiful. It was a wasted $50 dollars.
Walked in and stood at the front counter for 3 min, it seemed busy and only 1 person working as a waitress and as front counter. There were about 5 people in line after we sat down. So the front person/server had to take care of them before getting our order. We have been inside for 15min and still have not gotten our order. We got drinks which were 3.25$ just for a small size cup. We paid for our drinks and left. That's before the front person assumed it was together.
Soda was good, didn't get to try the food. Sooo cant rate the food..
Been coming here for years! The owners are the sweetest people ever. They will recognize you and greet you with warmth. The food is top tier. Sometimes we drive 40 minutes a few times a week for it! The coconut soup and Pad Kee Mao are my favorite. They use large bay scallops that are amazing!!
The food and service here is always consistent. We come during lunch, the lunch portions are generous and we are in and out within 30 minutes. I highly recommend this place.
Best ever !
This is literally my favorite restaurant! The food is awesome, and the staff is always helpful.
I have Celiac and need to eat gluten-free. They have a great selection of gf food, and I haven’t gotten sick from it yet (which is super rare for me). We’ll drive an hour out of our way just to go here!

Amazing Thai food, and vegan options. Thank you!!
Awesome food, great people!
Thai Cafe is one of my wife and I's favorite spots for a date. It's always quiet, I've never seen more than six customers in there at a time. Generally we go for dinner. This time we shared a hot pot of chicken Tom Kha, along with fried pork belly. The Tom Kha was absolutely delicious, the fried pork belly was tasty as well but not quite as good a value for such a small portion. Two of our other favorites that we always order are seafood mix Tom Kha and curry short rib.
We'll probably be going back for the rest of our lives lol
Too many steps , wheelchair users will have issues though there are a few tables by the front door , lowest level area.
Great tasting food, correct temperature , price / volume ratio
Excellent service

This evening, we had dinner at the restaurant, and I must say, the atmosphere and food were truly exceptional. Regrettably, I must express my dissatisfaction with the service. Our choice was the yellow chicken curry paired with sticky rice, instead of the standard steamed rice. When we received the bill, we were unexpectedly charged for the sticky rice, each at a rate of $3.
Upon inquiring why the sticky rice wasn't substituted for the steamed rice, which is typically included with the meal, our server explained that sticky rice is more costly. While I understand an upcharge, a $3 supplement for a minor alteration to a dish that is already part of the meal strikes me as rather excessive.
Furthermore, I couldn't help but notice that the portion size of the sticky rice side dish was rather small. In fact, I had to order two portions for myself due to their rather modest size.
In my view, the establishment has the potential to be outstanding, provided they introduce a straightforward up-charge option for sticky rice and elevate the quality of their in-house service significantly.
The crab rangoon had a weird yellow colour in the filling. It had an odd taste to it. I assume it's from whatever is giving the yellow colour to it. I personally didn't like them but my lunch companion thought they were great. I tried the cashew chicken my companion had for lunch. Again they thought it was wonderful I didn't care for it. The Thom Kia Ga soup was fantastic! I've easily eaten at between 200-500 Thai restaurants in my life. This soup was in the top two BEST EVER. It tasted just like the one I make at home.
I think I'm allergic to whatever was making the crab rangoon filling yellow. The next morning the roof of my mouth had bumps on it. Little tiny ones to the size of a dime. It was painful to eat for two days. To day is the 1st of January I still have some bumps but eating isn't painful anymore. My companion had no ill effects from the meal. Again I think something that I'm allergic to. Some friends have said tameric, but I eat Jamaican spicy beef pattys. So that's a no, not that spice. But I'm planning on coming back and having more soup and mango with sticky rice & cream. Ohh the Thai Iced Tea here was just like the one I make at home. Soo yummy. Can't wait to come back.
I visited my friend then found out this restaurant. My husband and I got fried fish with Thai herbs, Prawn Aob Woonsen and fried rice. All of them were amazing. Service was great. Nice atmosphere. I wish this restaurant locates near my house. I definitely will go there again for next vacation.
Okay
My granddaughter and her service dog were denied entry! They were told they would have to sit outside! This breaks all kind of laws! The waitress was very rude also! Her small dog is well trained and better behaved than many of their customers! Thai failed!
This restraunt did not allow a person with a service dog to enter the restraunt. They were told they could eat outside. This is not legal and they discriminated.
We used to come here often, love to support local business. However, they denied seating to us because we had a service animal. I stated they couldn’t discriminate against us in that way and could I speak to a manager. The worker stated there was no manager on duty and it was a new policy and we would have to sit outside. We left, feeling frustrated. I called the next day to talk to a manager. They were not very concerned, although admitted that this treatment was against the law. They said their worker was wrong and hung up.
Great little spot for a family dinner. Quick friendly service. The massaman curry was delicious.
I had a disappointing experience at this Thai restaurant. The food was mediocre at best, with the flavors lacking the depth and authenticity I was expecting. To make matters worse, they charged a 20% gratuity for a party of 4 adults and 2 kids, even though we stayed for barely an hour. It’s frustrating enough to be forced into tipping a set amount, but charging that much for a group of kids who barely ate is ridiculous. Definitely won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Thai dining experience.
Everything is great about thai cafe
Great food and great service! There is also a cute market down the street! Highly recommend and will be returning soon.
Great food great service!
Best service I’ve had in years!!! Cat was amazing and brightened the whole restaurant with her out of the world service!!!
Just left for dinner here and man the food was amazing! The curry, Tom Kha, eggroll, stinky mango with dessert were all a HIT! Even my sorta picky 6yo loved it, will definitely come back here again!

My favorite in Temple.
We tried the tom kha soup, chicken satay, basil fried rice, pad cha and pad kee mao. Drunken noodles was very watery. Basil fried rice and soup were delicious. The rest was just okay. Service from Ti was very good.
The food portion is so small compared to Mee Mee’s and kind of pricy
The food was really great and for a good price. Love the Pad Thai and scallops.
Always GTG,,,, so far.
A hidden gem. Food is terrific , prices very reasonable, and portions are very generous.
Friendly staff, good food, and I love the boba Thai tea.
I was really excited to try this place but unfortunately my experience was not very pleasant. I ordered both the pad thai and fried rice dish for my child. I would say the fried rice for kids has good portion and taste good. But the pad thai tasted like i was eating pure sugar, it was way too sweet. Pad thai is one of my favorite dishes and this is the first time i have tasted it with such a overpowering sweet flavor. I mentioned it to the young lady at the front and instead she blew me off and basically said yea this is how we do it in this restaurant and restaurants cook things differently. which i agree with but i just wanted to let them know that the sweetness level was way to overpowering but the tone of voice and attitude in which she said it was very off putting. I don't think i will be returning to this restaurant.
Great food!
Used to be better. Not sure what’s happened over the last year.
Pineapple Fried Rice was so good
great place with awesome owner
Food is always great. However, they do not have wheel chair accessible dining. Not sure why Google shows wheelchair icon. 🤔
Food is tasty and plentiful.
Absolutely love Thai Cafe, I might be the only person that orders double duck with every entree😂. Their “shrimp in a blanket” egg rolls used to be jumbo shrimp and now they would resemble your man’s parts, yet the price is the exact same. They’d lose a star but a service, atmosphere, quality, authenticity are all A-1. You must check em out and support this wonderful business. Dine in💯
Been here 3x so far and the food is consistently good. My favorite is the yellow curry, yum. Service is great. You gotta try the mango smoothie!!!
Everything was top notch!!!
76. $, spent on poorly tasting food, seemed more Chinese style. Added 🦐 (which was visibly freezer burnt), to Pad Khing, cheap rubbery strips of beef used. These fruit drinks we bought, the 🍉 was 😋, The glass of 🥭 was mostly concentrate in the cup, not sure if the waitress knew how to prepare a concentrated drink, so we requested more 💦 and another 🥂 of ice. The Dim Sum is basically what you buy at a store, The dipping sauce they used was actually a type of marinating sauce for meat to barbecue, anyone that's been to a real Chinese restaurant will know the difference. The garlic 🐔 wings just had dried 🧄 flakes sprinkled on top, you can buy that at a Chinese store by the tubs. Had the Basil fried 🍚 so disappointed because it just had 2 strips of basil, no flavor of basil and that's not Fragrant Jasmine, they're using cheap Jasmine, You can tell because they have the black lines in the grains. Their prices are definitely too high for the amount of food served, and there was only two of us. Yes, we tipped the waitress.
Restroom was dirty and had flies, made me wonder about the kitchen. If you've ever had enough real Thai😋🤤, you just know!
I absolutely love this place ever since I tried it about a month ago. I have now ordered it twice on doordash. It's really good. And when you go into the restaurant it is a good size portions as well. And everything is made fresh.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place and shoutout the waitress for their quick and generous service. I will definitely be back again, maybe twice or 3 times every month. love it, the curry ( yellow curry was delicious along with the fried appetizers, Thai coffee. Even the scenery was cozy and I would highly recommend if you're going alone like a solo date for some peace and meantime or on a date for 2. ❤️
Ate there 2 weeks ago since last year. Appears that under new ownership or mgmt as there are no longer any Asian employees but now staffed with hispanic employees. We order the calamari & the serving was much smaller than we always received. I order the shrimp pad Thai & again much smaller & it lacked the good flavoring that I was use to. My husband ordered the combo fish plate & way overcooked shrimp & forgot to add the rice. Overall very disappointed in the food. Will never return.
I have been here numerous times and every time it has been a fantastic experience. Everything is delicious, well-prepared and super fresh. The staff are always friendly and will help you out if you need any explanation of the menu. They also do catering which I've used and they did an amazing job with everything.
No matter what I have ordered, it is always a surprise at how much I love it. I love the fact that everything starts off as a vegetarian dish and you add the protein to it, so no fish sauce added to my food which is great since I don't eat seafood at all. The food is seasoned perfectly and spiced however you want it, from no heat to wow!!!
If you have the time and can find parking, this is the perfect place to dine.
Everything was delicious! I wish the yellow curry had more vegetables and the drunken noodles were spicier but zero complaints on the flavor 🤌🏽
Pretty dam good.
Got the Pad Se Ew, loved it.
Spring rolls are good too.
We were disappointed with our pad thai. I asked for the Thai hot, and it was a lot of dried chili, so it was not hot at all. My husband got mild, and that was fine. There were no peanut's...I understand the no peanuts as there are a lot of people with allergies. The sprouts were brown and wilted. We will try it again and see how it goes. We lived in Thailand a few years ago. I think we were very blessed to eat the food over there.
Ordered a fried rice combination and The rice was too overcooked, had ordered take out. Wontons or rangoons had a nasty texture
Place is really nice! But food no so good rice was all mushy,I asked no vegetables in my pineapple fried rice and it had everything in there it's over priced the only thing that was well prepared summer rolls other then that I spent 67 dollars to not eat anything but the summer rolls never again....
The food is so good as well as the service.
I also enjoy the atmosphere.
If you like good Thai food in a small but inviting environment, I would highly recommend this place.
I love Thai food so I was really excited to try this restaurant, unfortunately my experience was not good. I asked for everything no spicy and I just couldn’t eat it…I told the waiter and her answer was…that’s the way Thai food is…but this was not my experience in another places. I hope to give it a second chance and hopefully change my review. ***If you don’t like spicy food I don’t recommend this place***
Best Thai food around. Authentic, fast, and large portions. I can usually split a Pad Thai with my spouse unless we're feeling particularly greedy that day.
It is quick. I ordered the spicy bamboo and the larb. The spicy bamboo is acceptable. The chicken larb (with the ground chicken) is the worst taste I have tried compared to the similar dish available in a couple of other cities, and the Jasmin rice is also the worst one I ever tried.
Best Thai in town!
Very good Thai food in downtown Temple. Fresh vegetables and lots of good sauces. One of my favorites when I go through that area
The food was good, this was my second time visiting. I ordered pad Thai both times. The first time I asked for medium spice and it wasn’t spicy at all. The second time I asked for spicy and it was very spicy lol it doesn’t seem consistent. I also went at two different times. Once for dinner and the second time I for it to go for lunch. The staff were very friendly both times. I’ll go back, and probably try something different.
Walked in and encountered one of the rudest cashiers I’ve ever met. Whoever the ginger is working 4PM April 12 is horrible. Walked in excited for food and left with just a drink, I’m sure this place is great minus that demon.
We loved our visit to the Thai cafe! They were so accommodating and welcoming and the food was the amazing! 10/10 would come eat here again
The food has changed. The taste is not what I want out of Thai food. They used to have excellent food but something has changed. The take out portions have shrank to a smaller container and I was not given utensils, sauce or napkins
The restaurant itself is cute and the food was amazing. Our waiter was really nice and kept us topped off and was quick! Food came out quickly and it was a good amount of food.
The downside is that at night some of the homeless people come out and can be a bit intimidating.
So delicious. The tom kha soup was everything you'd expect.
Ordered pad thai, egg rolls, calmary and papaya salad . Didn't get the pad thai ( the main dish). Oh yeah.,I live 30 minutes away. Thank for ruining my dinner . Note to self. Check order before you leave. Guess I will try mee bo's next time
No flavor. When they changed owners the food changed. Named the same but definitely not cooked the same
Great food! Really fresh and delicious! Love the pad thai.
Ate outdoors. Lovely
Not too shabby for small town Temple.
Absolutely incredible Thai cafe!
The food is exceptional!
As well as affordable and healthy.
The service is very friendly and professional as well!
I wish if I lived closer by 👍🏽💯
The service has charge so has the food. The service was slow turn food is still good. It just doesn't taste the same. It's less spicy now.
I eat Thai food once weekly and have been to Thailand. I was excited to eat here since I drove out from Houston and wasn’t expecting Thai food in Temple. Their green curry was delicious - great coconut taste but could use more spice. Pad Thai wasn’t authentic sadly. It was too sweet and tasted nothing like traditional pad Thai does. The quantity of tofu and vegetables in both dishes was perfect, especially since most Thai restaurants don’t add a lot of tofu. I’d come back here again but wouldn’t order the pad Thai.
We had dinner at this place on Friday. Ordered two Pad Thai (one seafood, one beef). Several other people came after us. They were served before us. We almost waited for half an hour. While the staff were asking others how they were doing and behaving friendly, they never talked to us. The spring rolls were delicious but even they came too late. The squid in the food was cold! As if it was added in the last minute. Terrible lighting (kills mood), extremely slow and unprofessional service, mediocre food. We will not dine at this place again.
After a long wait, the first dish was cold , so they brought me a new one. It was delicious. But the waiter was busy and didn’t check on us very much. We needed water and didn’t have it.
Best Thai food in central Texas. Love the panang beef.
Good food and fast service
Wonderful staff who ensured my first visit was very pleasant. The dish I enjoyed was supposed to have been "Thai Spicy" but I didn't think it was any more spicy than any usual Tex-Mex dish. I'll be back to try another meal from the menu....Give these folks a try!
Great everything. So good we ordered dinner to take with us after having lunch. Made for a wonderful Valevtine lunch event.
Not only was this delicious food with perfect portion size, it came so fast! Love it. Will definitely come back to try some more. Cashew chicken was amazing
SO good and at a great price!
Highly recommend the yellow curry, chefs kiss! (Get medium or Hot!)
And servers were very nice and attentive.
Very cute decor and lay out as well.
A nice surprise in a small town. Spice levels didnt meet an average thai restaurant but the chili oil fixed it.
May be the best Thai food in the area.
Perfect.
I can't remember the last time I had take out that met my expectations. And it's so beautiful ❤️
Very good food and large portions
Place is nice and clean
I love Thailand food they do a great job.
Portions for appetizers a bit small but delicious nonetheless. Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had!
Amazing Thai food!! We’ve been enjoying this restaurant for years. The food is always delicious and everyone is friendly. They have a cute outdoor area now too. I get the larb salad in the summer. In the winter we like the yellow curry a lot. I also enjoy the Tom kha and Tom yum soups. Everything we have tried is great. We are thankful to have this restaurant in Temple!
I’ve been to this place many times before and had decent experience. I ordered a takeout tonight (December 26) at 7pm. The order wasn’t ready until 7:25, they told me they were running behind. Not a big deal. The staff packed my order in a hurry. When I got home, I was missing 2 chicken rolls. I call the restaurant and the staff female kept insisting that she put the rolls, making it seem as if I was lying. It was completely uncalled for. I spend $60 at this place, I wouldn’t argue over some rolls. But no apologies. Bottom line: they said they only have vegetarian rolls left and after I asked my husband to pick it up, they put only one order of rolls instead of two.
Just went here for my birthday as I love Thai food and it was a really nice experience. I hadn’t had Thai food in Temple before so I wasn’t sure if there was any place that was going to be decent in the area but this place was really nice. We had the Jasmine in the garden and crab fried rice both were really good. Will be coming back.
I had ordered from door dash Thai Cafe last Friday and not only once but twice found food in my food. The first occurrence was when I was drinking a thai ice tea an actual string of hair come out of my straw and I was perplexed. Then as I was eating my mango sticky rice I go to turn the rice over and there is another string of hair under the rice. I had lost my appetite and was disgusted. I was actually very excited to try Thai Cafe for the first time and was very disappointed
Ordered from here and I cracked the crab Rangoon open and a dead bug fell out into the dipping sauce. Also there was hair in the food. Disappointing since the food typically tastes great, but the sanitation needs to be of more importance. Won’t be purchasing here again because of this.
Our favourite Thai restaurant in town! Our go to orders are Chicken Satay, Tom Kha Gai, Pad Woon Sen & Massaman Curry. They all taste yummy! They're also very flexible with how we want our food like the spice level and creaminess of the soup / curry. Highly recommended.
It's a very well hidden spot but the food is great
Delicious curry vegan and meat eaters can eat , if I lived near by I would be a loyal customer.
What a taste of fresh cuisine in the Tex-Mex monoculture of Texas ribs and tacos. I got the glass noodles. We were cared for by a delightful wait staff.
Wow, what an exceptional dining experience! I must say that the prices here are very reasonable, especially for the quality of food you get. My absolute favorite dish is the Crab Fried Rice—it’s so flavorful and cooked to perfection. Everything else on the menu is also quite good. The service is attentive and thoughtful, making the meal even more enjoyable. To top it off, the ambiance is really beautiful, adding to the overall experience. Highly recommend this place!
Great little Thai restaurant. I chicken Larb, very juicy. Just wish there was mkre sweet rice to go with the meal.
Just an average Thai restaurant. Egg rolls had no flavor and the soup was all broth with very little vegetables and almost no chicken.
Great little place in downtown Temple to grab a bite
Always friendly, always good food.
I used to love this restaurant but earlier the service we got was awful. The server seems like she doesn’t want to work there, she looked pissed. I know it gets busy but her attitude shows she doesn’t want to serve us. My husband didn’t get a refill for his drink as well.
We liked a lot about this place. The staff was friendly, the vibe of the restaurant was good. The menu had a ton of options, including real crab! The food came out quickly. I liked my pad Thai.
There were two things though that could definitely be improved. 1) The spice level. My mom and I both ordered "medium" for spice, and there was NO spice. Nothing. We ended up getting a side of chili oil to add some. 2) The crab rangoon had hardly any filling. You basically just pay for fried wonton wrappers, as the filling is maybe??? nickel-sized. Not even enough for a full bite.
The restaurant is worth trying, but don't order the crab rangoon.
Noodles were not cooked. They were very hard. Told the server and she said "sorry". Wow
Food was okay but expensive. I went for lunch and had a pork belly entree, 2 spring rolls and water. The bill was 25 something before tip. I was alone and asked for Wi-Fi password. I was told they don’t give it out because people stay too long if they have it. Won’t be going back.
The food was spectacular! When they say, "Thai spice" they mean legit spice. It was the best Thai we've had in this area so far. It is small and simple for a reason folks. They put all the magic in the food and the prices are so reasonable. We thank you and we will be back!
Tom yum... unfortunately not much flavor, spiciness ok ; overall tasted like a poor done .
Love the shrimp spring rolls! Everything I’ve ever eaten there is great!
Favorite Thai place in town, definitely recommend checking it out, friendly service, great atmosphere and even better food.
What an absolute gem. We just had Sunday brunch and couldn't have been more satisfied with the Pad Thai and combination fried rice! This is the best Thai restaurant in the area IMO. We look forward to coming back!
Just picked up an order and I only live 5 minutes away. I ordered pad see ewe my food was cold noodles were dry and stuck together, no sauce nor taste. Did not taste fresh the summer rolls were ok not enough peanut sauce and for the price I think it should be better. I will go somewhere else.
Good food, good service, all together a yum yum experience.
Awesome experience! We will definitely go back
The service was excellent. The food came out quickly and was delicious! We will be going back soon!
My favorite place in Temple.
The services was decent but need to be more proactive with the customer. The food was good but really pricey for the amount.
The lunch special was bland. Jasmine by the sea. No flavor at all. The restaurant has been going down hill since I believe early summer. It must be there's a new cook. The wait staff in the last couple months also switched over. I think there is a new place near Belton. I recommend folks eat at their second location and not downtown Temple.
The pineapple fried rice and coconut milk curry spicy.. Holy sh*t.. amazing. My daughter and I loved the crab Rangoon, fried rice, and fried spring rolls. 😋.. I go here for my cravings of the best vegan curry 🫠
The two young ladies who run this place literally run themselves to death. It's not a very large place, but there are five steps leading up into the dining room, and to watch them go up and down them gracefully and repeatedly whilst carrying platters of food was nothing short of Olympic. The four-star rating (instead of five) is just because I was seated after about 10 minutes of waiting, and then while I was waiting at the table to have my order taken, a couple walked in and placed a to-go order – – when I had not yet had my order taken. I found that a little unsatisfactory. But the food was absolutely divine – – this is by far THE BEST drunken noodles ever, and we've lived all over the world, twice in Asia. Also? If you can't do spicy, ask for absolutely ZERO spice. Mine was "mild," and it cleared my sinuses. In a good way.
I can't wait to bring my husband here for lunch on Saturday. Cat was divine as a server, and she really is underpaid at any rate/tip (I tipped her 25%). And after having read a few reviews while I was sitting there waiting for my food, I have to concur regarding the wings: as crispy and delicious as they are, they are undersalted. You can smell the garlic but not really taste it much. Perhaps they should marinate them in fish sauce and garlic before they flash-fry them. But they were still excellent.
I don't eat Thai food often, but I am a fan of all Pacific islander, Asian and Oriental grindz. My wife is Vietnamese, and she loves it all as well. The Thai Cafe didn't disappoint. The service was good, the food came fast and was delicious. The Cafe itself is quaint. We have added them to our let's go eat list.
Really good food! Cute restaurant, clean and quiet. Could use more staff but overall really good!
Service was poor, food was adequate. Not returning
Woweee Wow! The cashew chicken is awesome, but order it Thai spicy.. good stuff. Try the summer rolls...I get the shrimp.
Good food, generous portions. Attentive waitresses.
