Street to Kitchen!
A flavor of the real Thai Street Food blended with local fresh ingredients served directly to you from our Malai Kitchen.
Malai has a cool atmosphere with great food! We tried the lunch specials to go and it’s a good sized serving with great flavor. The traditional fried rice is very close to traditionally what I would receive in Thailand. Some fish sauce on the side makes it better. The Pad See Ew was savory and great and the noodles were not over cooked. The spring rolls were the most authentic for me with the glass noodles. Everything was great!
This was some of the best Thai around! The Pad See Ew was amazing!! Lots of Garlic flavor! The fried egg roll and crab Rangoon were actually amazing!! Normally I don’t like Crab Rangoon’s but I love this! The Mango Sticky Rice was out of this world!! We will definitely be stopping back here.
Came here Monday morning as soon as they opened, we were greeted and seated immediately. The ambiance is very cute. We ordered 3 apps. Spicy dumplings: delicious, 4 pieces.
Takoyaki : delicious, 3 pieces
And grilled chicken skewers (I forgot the menu name): good, 4 pieces.
The appetizers came out quickly.
For mains we got the pork belly & beef basil, so good. It comes with a little serving of eggroll and ragoon with sauce. They offered 4 levels of spicy for our main: not spicy, medium, spicy and Thai spicy. We stayed between medium and spicy. The server cleaned out plates and tended to us at appropriate times & said goodbye on our way out. I would recommend this place.
Feels like eating a home-cooked meal at your Thai friend’s house. Absolute perfection. When it comes to Thai food, this is THE place to go. Every staple item was made perfectly. Incredible flavors.
Oh and the prices are very, very reasonable. They could absolutely charge more and I would still happily come here.
Met some friends here for lunch and immediately upon entering we noticed the restaurant was very aesthetically pleasing. Instagram worthy with comfortable seating options. The staff were friendly and attentive, service was very fast. We ordered the crispy rolls with the chicken satay and thai tea. The food was flavorful, and authentic without being too spicy. We finished with the fresh mango with coconut rice for dessert, which complemented the thai tea very well. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of service, the waitress was helpful and offered recommendations. The menu has so many great options, with reasonable prices, you can’t go wrong! Definitely my go-to for thai in midtown now.
Parking may be an issue so I recommend parking across the street.
Very beautiful and aesthetic eatery! We got the coconut lime soup, spicy dumplings, chicken satay, red curry, golly belly fried rice, pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. All the food had so much flavor, and the meat was all very well cooked. Service was fast. Beautiful place for casual eats
The food is amazingly well cooked, and the waiters are good fun. Everything in the restaurant makes you feel like you're actually in Thailand. Overall, it's a place I'll certainly come back to and share a meal.
Just tried this place at the recommendation of a friend. Loved the food (panang chicken curry, pork fried rice, and chicken pad thai were all excellent). The service was friendly, knowledgeable about food allergies, and full of great advice and suggestions. Atmosphere was pleasant, though the club next door might be a bit intrusive later into the evenings. Parking was difficult, so consider a rideshare. We'll definitely be back!!
The food was good, the chicken was a little tough, but the flavor was great. I've ordered the curry medium, and it was spicy well.
This is hands down the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and it’s very reasonably priced. We’ve tried all the curries, and every single one of them is incredible. Our current favorite is the Massaman and the Green Curry. Make sure to get them medium with chicken.
The food is meh, too much garlic in my noodle and I can only taste garlic, nothing else.
The atmosphere was nice, the waiter was attentive but not overbearing. The presentation is beautiful! Mild food is mild and spicy is spicy! Freshly made on the grill chicken was delicious.
We couldn’t believe a Houston Thai restaurant could deliver on a 4.9 - but wow, this place is amazing. Great vibes, value and TASTE.

Great flavourful and authentic Thai food. We tried a variety of dishes and they were all very tasty. Def would go back for more great food!
Great food! We ate a lot of dishes and they were all amazing!
Very good food, very good service. If parking is unavailable ask the valet people and they will tell you where to park
Very beautiful place and good food
I absolutely love this place—it’s my go-to for the best Thai food! The flavors are incredible, and the service is truly top-notch. Highly recommend!
Great Thai place .. dishes were really tasty. And if you like spicy go for hot .. very courteous staff and great service !! Highly recommended!
The place looked very good considering the ratings and the atmosphere, we got take out and I was shocked on how bad everything we ordered tasted the only thing that was worth getting was the chicken spring rolls, I’d say probably the worst Thai food I’ve ever had and I’ve been to plenty of Thai restaurants. Sad to say but I would definitely have to warn people that it’s not as good as it looks.
I found this gem of a place when my family and I were looking for somewhere to eat after church, and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious everything we ordered was amazing. Not only that, but the waiter who served us was incredibly respectful, kind, and attentive, which made the experience even better.
If you’re looking for authentic, home cooked Thai food, this is the spot to go! The ambiance is cozy, and the food is simply incredible. Be sure to come hungry because you’ll leave completely satisfied (and full!). We’ll definitely be back!
Great food, great staff
I go to Malai very regularly. This is the best Thai spot in Houston. Food tastes amazing and the staff are very nice and accommodating.

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is truly top tier and authentic as it gets, and the service is spectacular. If you’re a Thai food lover or if it’s your first time trying Thai food, then I highly recommend this place!
Food was brilliant! Nice vibes! Owner/staff is super friendly and sweet.
Loved the Thai Hot Pad Thai with shrimp. Looking forward to trying a new dish next time!
The food is very flavorful. Especially all the curry dishes and the crispy chicken rolls.
Got food poisoning. 0/10. Do not recommend
What a gem! I’ve been searching for 6 years for a decent Thai spot in Houston and I finally found one. The others are not exaggerating when they say best Thai food in Houston. This will be my new go to for Thai. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was great.
Food and service is great!
But parking is always a challenge here. We came here today when no other customers were there yet the TWO parking spots assigned to malai were occupied possibly by the staff who work at the restaurant. Had to park somewhere else and walk to the restaurant - not a big deal but would like to have more parking spots here or atleast have the ones assigned to Malai open for customers
Our favorite Thai restaurants! We go almost weekly 😁 great food and great service!
The food was incredible! We started with the Tom Yam Goong soup (must get! - the flavours were unreal), followed by steamed dumplings & gyoza, Pad Thai and Panang Curry. Not a bite was left! The service was friendly and efficient.
Food was great. Tried the gyoza, and dumplings, pad Thai and Penang curry.
Service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. The price was very good for what we ordered
Whenever we venture to downtown Houston we always have to make a stop to Malai. We don't have good Thai food near where we live. They make awesome yellow curry.
Fantastic Thai food.
Such amazing depths of flavors. Quite possibly the best Thai green curry and Tom Kha soup I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying. Portions to pricing is also excellent. Service is polite and attentive.
We love it here. The food is amazing, the restaurant is cute and everyone who works here is thoughtful and gives great service!
Food was fresh, fast, and delicious at a reasonable price. Service was impeccable and servers incredibly kind. All topped off with a clean and cozy atmosphere. This place is the whole package!
Delicious food, welcoming environment, very friendly customer service. Lunch was affordable. Red curry some of the best.
In my search for something delicious, in one of my few trips to the Houston Downtown area, I came across this gem and I decided to try it for the first time. The waiter was fantastic as she was patient with me since I had never been to this location. I enjoyed the atmosphere they created. It is a place that provides tranquility and is perfect for a meal by yourself or a family member or friend. I ordered the yellow curry right after eating a delicious selection of spicy dumplings. It was all oh-so-good. I would recommend this place to natives and travelers alike. I would also recommend this place for an individual dining experience and to enjoy with family or friends.
Great music, amazing staff, and delicious food with just the right kick of spice! My wife and I shared two appetizers and two entrees—it was the perfect amount of food. The portions were generous, and everything was super tasty. We’ll definitely be back!
Total was ~$85
BEST MANGO STICKY RICE IN THE CITY!
Massaman Flavor delicious
Pad thai so good
The whole meal was perfect 🤩
Best Thai food in Houston
We love this restaurant! My partner and I have been coming here since shortly after they opened in the Fall of 2023. We live in Tennessee but we were in Houston last year for medical treatment. Every follow up visit to Houston has Malai Thai as our top lunch destination.
Checked reviews for a good Thai restaurant. This one did not disappoint! Independent family restaurant with attentive service and great food.. everything was served hot and fresh. Unless you really like super spicy I wouldn't go beyond medium hot. 🥵 Crispy rolls+++ I'll be back!
Great taste
This was new spot for me and I loved the food!! We are going back again tomorrow. The food was delicious and spice levels perfect. We also had a really lovely server.
Location not so good, in a strip mall lacking much parking space. Food is just okay, too much spice to actually get any taste of the dish.
Delicious and they take spice seriously here!! The green curry and basil fried rice were phenomenal. The massamun curry was also great, although we prefer it with a bit more coconut milk, so added some at home. Will be coming back!
Service was amazing, food was excellent, the people were so nice and attentive. 5/5 recommend

Great Thai food
Update 7/14/24 - the hot basil fried rice with tofu is now my favorite dish!! So glad I saved room for the mango and sticky rice dessert. It was nice, warm, and gooey. Just perfect!
Update 3/17/24 - in case it's not obvious already...I really like this place and want them to succeed. Today I ordered Uber Eats because I had a credit to use. Everything was packaged well and tasted very good. The temperature of the food was also on point. I finally ordered the mango and sticky rice and it did not disappoint! Next time I dine in I'll be sure to save room for it.
Update 2/18/24 - definitely our go to for Thai food in midtown now! Their weekday lunch specials are great and come with a spring roll and a cheese roll for a reasonable price. Have been back several times for dinner and highly recommend the Som Tam Thai - papaya salad (vegetarians request it without fish sauce), massaman curry, and pad woon sen noodles. The staff is always friendly and provide great service!
Came in for a weekend lunch and everything was great from the food to service. We ordered pad thai and pad kee mao (drunken noodles). Both were cooked to perfection (no overcooked bell peppers and onions) and well seasoned. The strawberry and blueberry lemonades with sparkling water were really good. The owner said since they are still in their soft opening the menu is a bit limited...we wanted soft summer rolls which was not available at the time. The owner and staff were friendly. Cute ambiance and unique seating in the middle of the restaurant. Parking can be a bit tricky since they share it with the busy restaurant next door. There's street parking though. We are happy to have a new Thai restaurant in our neighborhood!
I am very picky about my pad thai but they did it right. It was spicy and sweet. The cream cheese wontons were little pockets of heaven. The rolls were very good with the noodles. Everyone else liked their dishes as well. Their thai tea needs to be talked about more. It was so good.
Beat place in Houston so far for Pad Thai!
I guzzled Thai tea to put out the fire in my mouth. I sampled two different dishes, and their spiciness combined in my mouth to be far spicier than either dish alone.
5 stars
10/10. Great service, fantastic food, amazing portions, superb vibes and reasonable prices. Watch out for the spiciness though when its hot it’s hawt.
Malai has become our go-to Thai restaurant. The food is authentic and delicious, and the prices are fair and reasonable. The staff goes out of their way to make everything perfect. Would recommend!
Excellent food! We got papaya salad, spicy dumplings, fish cakes, pad Thai, and duck curry. Solid! Nice and attentive staff. Small parking lot.
super authentic thai food!!!
The food was great and the service was exceptional
Amazing vibes, food and service. Best Thai in Midtown by far.
Absolutely phenomenal great staff Thai food!
I've tried the Red Curry w/ Chicken, Pad Thai, and Golly Belly Fried Rice. Everything has been delicious.
best thai food I tried in Houston so far!!!! all we tried was just delicious and yummi!!!!! service was very nice and attentive!
Great spot in Houston for Thai. The yellow curry is delicious. You must try the Tom Yam Goong, hot preferably. I highly recommend Malai, Kevin has waited on us each time and he's phenomenal.
Been a while since we went to a place where "hot" actually meant hot and not some pg version for avg folks not accustomed to spices lol. Food was delicious and atmosphere was cute.
What a find! Been looking for a great Pad Thai, Pad Se Yu spot for a while. Others have gone downhill. We’ve found our spot. Extremely fresh and tasty food, friendly service, good prices - we will be back regularly! You need to try this spot!
Everything was amazing here. Heartfelt customer service and fantastic seasoning. The ambiance is really lovely. Can't recommend enough.
Before I came to this restaurant, I saw its rating was an impressive 4.9. I was a bit skeptical but decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it not only lived up to its high rating but even deserved more than 5 stars! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I tried the Thai hot , and if you love spicy food, you really shouldn't miss this place.
This is the most authentic Thai place I've been to in the US outside of California. Tried the "Thai hot" level of spice in my panang curry. It's that good eye watering, nose dripping kind of spice level so proceed with caution. The decor is also beautiful and cozy. No complaints about the service. The prices are very reasonable. I HIGHLY recommend this place.
Not a fancy place, but the best Thai food I've ever had outside Thailand and better than a lot of the food I've had in Thailand. This comes from someone who has lived in Thailand for more than a dozen years.
Went twice in a week and had a wholesome experience each time. Food is fresh and prepared well. I’ll happily become a regular 🤙🏼
Very rich and satisfying experience. As a Thai place, here you got everything: atmosphere and chefs from Thailand, spices authentic, tastes authentic, hot dishes very well organized. Food presentation was amazing as servers, at the end price is so low for this quality of food! Enjoy!
Very authentic Thai food! Service was great! Try the massaman curry and the Shalala colada, you won’t regret.
Food is really good
We love your concept and are so happy you received your alcohol permit!
The food here SLAPS
Yummy and authentic. I think the cook is thai too. Good service. The spice level is very similar like in Asia. We had medium level which we thought was not gonna be so spicy but it was spicy enough so if u don’t like too spicy do the mild maybe. Still enjoyed it very much
It is the best Thai restaurant Houston has to offer. I started coming here at their other location but I am thrilled they moved to midtown to be closer to me. Usually when I love something they tend to leave me lol not Malai.
Good fresh quality food. Very flavorful and they make sure the heat level you select is perfect. I usually do Thai hot and that sometimes makes me tingle lol.
If you are in the area stop on by and taste delight. You wont regret it! Parking on site but slightly limited.
Workers are super friendly and always make sure you enjoy what they have to offer.
Delicious food, cozy setting, excellent service
Have not enjoyed food and service like this in a long time, everything was perfect
This is such a great dinner spot. The restaurant is small, very clean, and has comfortable seats. The service was impeccable, and our server made sure to check that we could handle the spice levels we ordered. Now to the important part, the food. We started with Tom yum and som tam. Both were full of flavor and tasted light and fresh. For our entrees we had the pad kee mao and red curry. Every single dish was phenomenal. I've visited Thailand multiple times and this place has authentic flavor. Our only regret was that we were too full to try their mango sticky rice, but now we have an excuse to visit again.
The decor inside is very nice and the food is good. Some portions are a tad small but I would come here again. 👍
It's great that you can use the MetroRail to get to the restaurant. Food and service were amazing but (and this is a big but) the techno music in the "background" was extremely loud and incredibly annoying. It really spoiled the experience for my friend and me. Please lower the music volume, so that people can actually hear each other and have a conversation. Or play some soft music. Without this issue, I would have given 5 stars.
Malai Thai is the complete package: delicious food, lovely ambiance, excellent service, and reasonable prices. Our favorite dishes are the moo-yang and crab rangoon, the hot basil and curries, and the sticky mango desert. You have to try this restaurant!
Had panang curry for takeout and was super pleased. Friendly service, nice decor. Parking could be a bit challenging.
This place is perfect for solo dining.
I want to give kudos to Kevin for his outstanding service.
In short, I'll definitely be a return customer.
I had Piña Shalala (non-alcoholic drink), Moo Yang (appetizer), Shrimp Green Curry (entree), and Mango with Sticky Rice (dessert).
Their 🥭 with sticky 🍚 is perfect.
It's a new Thai restaurant in Houston midtown. I've been there twice and I loved the food, service and atmosphere. I highly recommend it. I wish I had taken some photos.
It's incredibly delicious! I liked it very much
The Tom yam and som Thai at this restaurant were disappointing. Both dishes lacked any depth of flavor beyond mere sourness and hotness.
Met some friends here while on a flight layover. What a delicious recommendation! Loved every aspect of the meal. A beautiful instagramable space with fantastic service to enjoy an outstanding lunch. I’m hungry just looking at the pictures I added to my post as I type. Lots of great carnivorous and vegetarian options. Expertly prepared with the freshest ingredients.
Malai Thai restaurant is truly exceptional for several reasons. Firstly, its cuisine offers a tantalizing journey through the rich and diverse flavors of Thailand. From the aromatic spices to the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy, each dish is a masterpiece crafted with skill and precision. Moreover, the ambiance of Malai Thai enhances the dining experience, transporting patrons to the heart of Thailand. With its warm, inviting decor and attentive service, diners feel welcomed and relaxed from the moment they step through the door. Whether enjoying a romantic dinner for two or a lively gathering with friends and family, the restaurant provides the perfect setting for any occasion.

Their friendly and attentive service adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience, making patrons feel valued and appreciated.
In conclusion, Malai Thai is an amazing restaurant because it offers exquisite cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere, and unparalleled service. Whether you're a seasoned Thai food enthusiast or trying it for the first time, a visit to Malai Thai is sure to be a culinary adventure you won't soon forget.
Chill, great food, the thai matcha green tea is great
Great spot for Thai food. Highly recommended
Loved this place! Plenty of plant-based options and the food was delicious. The decoration was also very beautiful.
My girlfriend says it's her new favorite restaurant. Highly recommend the mango sticky rice.
The yellow curry was amazing 10/10. Its a vibe in here 💯🔥
This food was BANGIN. The atmosphere and decor is beautiful. The waitresses were so nice the whole time. It took a minute to get the food because there was a table of 12 that got here before us and they only have 1 or 2 cooks, but it was well worth the little wait that we had.
10/10, would recommend to a friend! 🤤
I usually never write reviews but I was blown away by this place. The food is incredible and the service is genuine and comforting. Their mango sticky rice is some of the best i’ve had in the city. I will definitely be frequenting this place!!
Not sure if it’s veggie friendly. I ordered tofu curry and tofu pad Thai and they both tasted pretty fishy. My non veg husband liked it though. Presentation was great, service was amazing, and atmosphere was so so cute!!
The best gluten free pad thai 😍
Best Thai food in Houston hands down. The curries are flavorful and creamy and everything is super fresh. The waiter was on point - kind, quick, and even boxed our food for us.
Amazing
Is this place good or what!!! It ranks great in every factor- food, ambience, service, price. Need I say more. Coming back here again and again for sure!!!
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE RESTAURANT.. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING,SERVICE WAS EXCEPTIONAL.. THE BEST THAI FOOD IN HOUSTON THUS FAR…
Amazing new eatery! We went during their soft opening and the service and food were amazing.
Food was delicious, service was fantastic, and the ambience was so pleasant. Highly recommend!
Aways in search of great Thai food in Houston -- this is my new favorite place! Had the Pad Prik Khing (fried catfish with red curry paste) and it was excellent. They actually listen to the spicyness request (mild, medium, hot and Thai hot). I ordered mine Hot and it was perfectly spicy like it should be. Pleasant atmosphere and efficient friendly service. Only downside was parking is tight, but the food and service is worth any hassle parking.
To provide context, this rating is based on takeout rather than eating in and that usually makes a big difference. We ordered a cross section of the menu, including salad, and while fresh and well cooked, it lacked Thai essence and punch - all just a bit bland and nondescript (and not really tasting of anything I’ve eaten in Thailand). I’ll try again, eating in the place to see if it’s better because the block it is located in has good vibe and we need a stellar Thai place to compliment it. I am looking forward to a more tasty meal because I get the sense they can deliver on promise.
Sooooo gooooood
Great ambience, AMAZING food, Awesome Staff! I came across this place driving downtown and boy was I pleased ! I absolutely love Thai food and was excited and appreciative of the spices and yummy dishes. I will definitely be back ! Pictured: Thai Tea, Basil Fried Rice, Basil Wok Dish and Fried Egg-rolls .
phenomenal fried rice
Excellent food!!! Very authentic and flavorful…Service was attentive.
What a treat! Thai bliss. No wonder this place is so highly rated. One of my pet peeves is watery thai curry and this place serves curry with the beautiful tasty, thickness and consistency that you experience in Thailand!
Food - spectacular, served piping hot, fresh veggies and tofu - consider yourselves mind-blown!!
Service - Prompt, courteous, friendly - just like it should be
Atmosphere - even with the plastic trees and flowers nice!
Value - Prices were reasonable and portions were good!
We even ordered food to take back home. This one’s a keeper! What a great spot
Everything you can think of is top notch
Super reasonable price
I want to give them one hundred stars!
Supported these owners at their 511 Thai location. Now I get to experience their delicious food in a new location! Their new location is absolutely gorgeous, and the food is still delicious (and spicy)! It's one of my favorite spots in Houston! Definitely recommend!
The food is absolutely delicious. The service is impeccable. My food was service quickly, fresh, and favor full. Do not let the newness shy you away. The only take away is the parking lot is small.
Everything about this restaurant was phenomenal. The service was incredible. The food came out quick, hot and everything was delicious. Crispy rolls were the best I've had. Restaurant is clean. Decor is nice. Best meal I've had while visiting Houston.
Went here for a weekend lunch! Parking could be an issue. They have indoor seating. Service is good and ambience is great.
Started with a cup of ginger tea - it was good. Had their Tom kha Gai - it was flavourful. We got the small portion and shared between two. We also tried their Basil fried rice - must try. You can adjust the spice level.
Definitely going back to try the rest of their menu!
Great food, nice wait staff, and cute interior!!!
My boyfriend and I absolutely loved everything here. We just wanted a light lunch and I ordered the chicken lettuce wraps which was the perfect portion, while my boyfriend got the pork skewers that came with sticky rice. Absolutely delectable!!!! Very cute and quaint inside. Love this place. Will definitely be back!
We had a quick dinner here. Food was good + service was excellent
Our new go-to Thai restaurant
The food is delicious, service is great! We had the pad se ew, pad kar pao and then Penang curry. Everything is authentic and super flavorful. Will definitely come back.
food is super savory and soft, no need to worry about dry chicken! flavors are on point and the prices are really reasonable. the atmosphere is very cute and calming.
Great new Thai place. Everything was delicious!
Stumbled upon this restaurant when looking for a Thai place on Google maps. We are glad we gave it a try. Service was good as the staff were attentive and checked on us multiple times. We ordered moo yang for appetizer, it was grilled pork and was so juicy and tender you must try!!!! We also had pad kee Mao and pad see ew, both were delicious. The only critique would be the music played was a bit too loud and club-y.
Really enjoyed the pad Thai. Want to go back to try more of the appetizers.
Had the pad Thai and ginger chicken and both were 10/10. Fast service so good for lunch
The golly belly fried rice was very good!
Beautiful place. Wonderful staff who were so sweet and attentive. The food was incredible! I got the massaman chicken curry and chicken satay and I can't wait to be back. Go check this place out you won't regret it
Excellent Thai food spot . I’ve been looking for a better thai place ever since Thai gourmet closed down and I think This is it . The pad thai is seasoned just right , not too sour or not too soggy. Their roasted duck curry is a must try, I’ve never seen this item on any thai menu before. The broth is flavorful with just the right amount of spice. There’s only 1 dessert on the menu right now and the mango is super sweet! Highly recommend it .
