Cheery BYOB with lunch specials making familiar Thai dishes plus desserts such as mango sticky rice.
Delicious! π€ No, super delicious. We decided to try Sweet Basil restaurant . I got Seafood curry (yellow level 1 on spicy) it was super delicious. My wife and I normally go to a place by the square for Thai food . But let me tell ya, in my personal opinion this Thai restaurant is way better. Kudos! We shall eat here again....sooner than later. A++++.
This Thai restaurant serves one of the best pad see ews (soy sauce noodles) in town. We like ordering it either with chicken or tofu. Our go-to appetizer is the shrimp in the blanket. I love the sweet sauce it comes with and sometimes I pour the leftover sauce on the noodles. Iβve also ordered the tofu delight and the golden duck. All great dishes that taste delicious. The duck is crispy which I like. We are also mindful of βThai spiceβ so if you can handle it, definitely go for more than a level 2. Portions are adequate and we tend to have leftovers that we take home. Service is always great here and the lady that serves us is so nice. Thai is a comfort cuisine for us and this place does not disappoint. We love coming here and we visit pretty frequently. Overall, itβs a must-try if you love Thai food!
Great Thai food! We ordered the chicken satay great flavor. Hubby enjoyed his plate of Pad Thai and I ordered the basil chicken ginger it was flavorful and balanced with veggies and chicken. The atmosphere is relaxing and calm. Overall enjoyed the Thai food and service was attentive and kind. Will be back. π
Iβm not one to leave reviews often, let alone a negative oneβ¦.this was the worst Thai food I have ever had.
I ordered 3 different dishes and couldnβt eat any of them. Watered down base, lacking in flavor, and the meat was mealy and had a funky taste.
I hope they read this and get the kitchen back on point. Something is clearly off.
Perfect! A Thai restaurant that is close enough for me to travel to on a regular basis.
There is plenty of parking because this is located at Denton Crossing outlet; that being said, there is also handicap parking available.
Our waitress sat us down immediately at our table upon entering the restaurant. She provided great service at our table, taking great care to make sure that our orders were right.
We ordered the Thai tea, and our waitress made sure that we had water to go along with our tea. She also checked up on us regularly throughout the meal.
The rice was cooked just the way we like it.
The appetizer we had was the chicken satay, which is chicken on a skewer with a peanut sauce to dip the chicken into. The chicken was thinly sliced and had an orange/red tint to it.
My wife had the house cashew chicken. She gave me a bite of her house cashew chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. She ordered it with medium heat.
I had the red curry with beef, and it came out in a good-sized bowl, which means it was a good-sized portion.
The atmosphere was wonderful, it is a small area and quaint. It is not overly decorated like some restaurants are.
The restaurant was very clean and tidy.
The restrooms were clean. These owners show to take pride in everything they do within this restaurant.
I can see us frequenting this awesome restaurant a lot in the future.
We are from Austin and stayed in Denton for the weekend. Came across Sweet Basil Thai Bistro, one of the cleanest restaurant we visited. Nice and warm atmosphere. Very friendly host and waitress with welcoming smiles. The food was super excellent. We ordered PadThai noodle, Chicken Wrap and Crab Rangoon and they also brought out the Thai traditional spices which we added to even spice up the dishes. We recommend this restaurant to the readers who are looking for Thai authentic food. We bookmarked this restaurant as our favorite. This is our 5th times at this restaurant for their delicious Thai foods. And, YES!!! We come to Dallas/Denton often. This is the greatest place to eat Thai Food.
***** Just LOVE Thai Foods ***** (5 Stars).
Thai ice tea was delicious, the food is not recently cooked they warm it up in the microwave, we were taking our time eating and the waiter came over to kick us out saying if we needed to go boxes and giving us our ticket smh never coming back
We love sweet basil!! Nikki is an awesome cook very family oriented. And a great family atmosphere!!! We really love this place!!!

Nothing to call home about. I prefer royal yum

This is a small restaurant but the food is really good and the staff is friendly. It's a must try. Warning be careful with the spice.
The best! Absolutely delicious food, very kind and courteous staff. Highly recommend!
Back again recently and ordered the same. Very delicious, large portions for the dishes me got, great service, flavors are rich and savory!!! Mmm,mmm
Great find we enjoyed the cuisine.
the tom kha is soooo good
Sweet Basil is my go-to!!! The appetizers, soups, curries, fried rice, noodle dishes, and entrees are all out of this world delicious. Plus, I really love the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. We would eat here every day if we could. Canβt decide what you want from the menu? Ask any of the super kind waitresses!
All in all, such a gem in the community! I wanna keep them around, so please support them!
My go for Thai food. The food is outstanding.
We havenβt been here in a while but we started coming to this restaurant 12 years ago. Our favorite dish is the House Cashew Chicken. I forgot just HOW DELICIOUS it is. The Panang Curry is delicious too. The atmosphere is relaxing and the servers are attentive and kind. This is a great Thai spot!!! Huge parking lot and thereβs a J. Crew next door to boot! Perfect for a casual date night ππΌ
Love the food & the staff!
Good soup ! Ordered spice level 4 and my mouth is on fire! π€
My favorite Thai place in Denton! Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent ambiance. I visit here every time my job takes me back through Denton.
Will be back. π
They are one of my favorite Asian mom and pop restaurants. Service is always excellent!
My favorites are Golden Duck, Three Flavored Fish, House Cashew Chicken and Spicy Basil, but made Thai Style over rice with fried egg on top.
Papaya Salad is so good! Reminds me of my momβs papaya salad, so delicious!
Unfortunately, we've detected a downward food quality trend here over the past 6 months. Tonight's dishes were green curry chicken and green curry pork. Curry was watery, with no depth and veg was nearly raw--tolerable with the green pepper but the eggplant was nearly inedible. Portion size was okay. This is the 3rd time with similar results. Sadly, we don't plan to go back.
Very disappointed. Name says βBasil Thaiβ but no where to find at leave fresh basil or Thai flavors. Pls train your chef to make at least good Red Curry. (They use bell pepper as only their veggie) Very Small portions. I usually donβt leave bad reviews but this is at the very bad level of Thai food. find at least some one can cook Thai food.
Best cashew chicken dish Ever! I come to the place often on my lunch break, and I am never let down. Top 3 places to eat
This restaurant was very clean. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The appetizers were hot and fresh. The food was plentiful, hot, fresh ingredients. Very yummy. Our experience was great.
This place has very good food and many selections for GF diets. The service has been excellent each time Iβve visited their location. Job well done Sweet Basil!
Came here for lunch and was delighted by the food and customer service. I got peanut chicken which was absolutely delicious. The lunch specials are a great deal. Will definitely be back!
Please do not waste your money on here. Food is bland the fried rice I ordered for level five spice came out sweet with no spice.
Heavenly beef Had no flavor really tough was supposed to be marinated in spices Thai people would be embarrassed. Returned. Both items just got comped for one so I donated money for bad food.
Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and great lunch specials. This place has become my favorite place for lunch during the work week. I like their tom yum soup and pineapple fried rice. And I highly recommend getting yourself a pot of jasmine tea with your meal for those chilly days-- just lovely!
The staff is very nice, but the food was not as good as expected. The pad Thai was very dry, and the papaya salada was pre-made or felt premade and was very soggy. The portions were nice, but the food wasn't very tasty, a little too bland. The spring rolls have no meat, so it's a little too expensive for 6 dlls.
We enjoyed our meal . We ordered hot green tea, vegetable rolls with peanut sauce ,Pad Thai & Bangkok Chili / beef everything was hot and fresh if you like spicy with lots of vegetables the Bangkok is the way to go ! Very friendly service.
Generous servings, great food but could have some vegan options. Vegetarian available.
Letβs get into the warm sticky rice desserts! They are amazing! Everyone is always all smiles and everything Iβve ever ordered here was tasty π
Outstanding service and food. The Cashew Chicken is awesome!
One of the best Tai places in Denton.
How is this place not busier on a Friday night. Amazing food! Amazing service! Finally found out go to Thai spot!!!
House cashew chicken and lotus cups are so good
La comida esta buena solo que para mi el platillos comi tenia un eso de sal
The group I attended with all arrived at different times. Each of us ordered apon arrival. The food was delivered in a timely manner in what I thought was reasonable portions. Our waitress was on point with refills, asking each new guest for their order, and gave advise for selections. The fried rice was good but that Thai Jerky was MMM MMM GOOD!!!
They got good food
Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent staff.

***** Just LOVE Thai Foods ***** (5 Stars).
Finally tried Sweet Basil Thai Bistro today for lunch. If you like βsweetβ Thai food this is the place for you. Traditionally spring rolls are savoryβ¦not here, even without adding the sweet sauce that they serve with the lunch portion appetizer the spring roll alone was sweet, maybe someone just went overboard with the palm sugar? The Beef and broccoli was bland & flavorless (I ordered a spice level 2 as I usually do at new Thai restaurants & asked for a chili tray to add my own). It seems they thicken their sauce for the beef & broccoli with corn starch or flour, whatever the case the texture & flavor was not consistent with traditional Thai cooking that I have experienced in the past. Needless to say not my fave.
This used to be one of our favorite places, but today it really wasn't good. The food took a long time to come to the table. My food came out with the meat barely warm, leading me to wonder if it was not cooked all the way, or if it had just been sitting out for a while. The vegetables were cold as if they had just come from the refrigerator and basically raw. I had to ask them to reheat my dish twice. At least it was warm after that, but the vegetables (carrots and broccoli) were still not cooked. The rice was dried out. Even just appetizers took forever to come. We had an order of salad rolls that didn't come until well after the food, even though all the other appetizers were there before that. The food here has gotten pricey and it's usually so delicious that I don't mind paying it, but today was really disappointing. Probably won't be returning.

The food is worth the price. You can choose your spice level. This restaurant is one of my favorite places to go to.
Second time here and I feel very welcomed, the waitress is so nice, the food is delicious, HIGHLY RECOMMEND to come in here.
I absolutely love the food and the staff here!!! I come here a few times every month and today I got off work a little bit late and they still took my to go order 10 minutes before closing and knowing I wouldnβt be there till a couple minutes after closing. They stayed a little late and were super welcoming and sweet!
This is an unassuming restaurant that is big on flavor! So many great options from soups to spring-rolls to cashew chickenβ¦βMost Famousβ all served in generous portions! i had never had sticky rice- and I am here to tell you - do not knock it til you try it- delicious dessert!
The service was quick despite how busy they were, friendly and knowledgeable!
This place is definitely an unsung hero
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Denton. The Spicy Basil is my favorite dish! The Thai tea is great! The lunch portions are perfect and come with soup and either a wonton or spring roll. The lotus cups are a must try for the appetizer.
The waitresses are always very friendly and prompt. Couldnβt love this place anymore!
A 16 customer!
Food was okay, but there was a FOOD tax plus regular taxβ¦.what is a good tax??
Fantastic food!
Excellent lunch specials! The food is very fresh and taste great!
If you are looking for a health conscious or simply delicious experience this place will nail it every time! BYOB and family friendly atmosphere but romantic enough for a special evening if you prefer.
As for the lost important aspect in my book: the food! No less than 5 stars.
Excellent quality and portion for the price. Recently I had the ginger sauce fish and it was amazing! Other highlights would be the thai tea and yellow curry my mom had. Everything was hot and fresh and being a chef to some degree myself I could see the prevalent use of fresh vegetables and ingredients that my family and friends now expect and enjoy.
Be advised this is not a panda express experience and so the cooks rely on the natural flavors of the protein and sauces they use to flavor the food not sugar and glazed sauces.
All in all give the place a try and you will find quite the gem off of 288 in Denton for a satisfying experience! (If you like authentic Thai food)
I went to this Thai restaurant for the 1st time with coworkers, i got red curry from lunch special $10.99. Lunch special has complimentary soup, a spring rol and the main course. That was awesome for $10.99. The restaurant was nice and clean. The service was great. The waittress was nice and helpful. Highly recommend.
Got the level 5 Pad Thai, it was excellent! Awesome little spot to grab some flavorful, super spicy food.
I use to love this place, but the last 3-4 years it has been lacking taste. The House Cashew was amazing 5 years ago, but lately the chicken in the House Cashew has gotten that odd taste as if it was out too long or maybe old. It's been like that for 3-4 years. I keep giving it a chance, but I think 2023 will be the last. Portions also got smaller & prices have gotten higher. Typical Texas move π
Food here was absolutly amazing loved it and will be back wish it was closer to me
So, I read a lot of the reviews and was kind of up in the air about going here, but then I saw that they had several gluten free options. I love Thai food! I have Thai family, and my husband and I just came back from Hawaii where we ate a ton of Thai food. We ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, the Pad Thai, Panang Curry, the Heavenly Beef, the Satai Chicken, and Thom Kha soup with Chicken. I can honestly say I was not disappointed in any of the food! It was all fabulous! I ordered everything at a heat level 2 (medium) which is plenty hot for me. Even my husband said that was a good heat level if you are trying not to burn your mouth. Unless you just like it super hot. We shared everything, and took a lot home. The portions were really good too! Lovely little restaurant, nothing too over the top. Casual dinning or to go. We ordered some food for our kids to take home as well. I was so excited to be able to have another place to eat in Denton when we come down!
Friendly fast service
Outstanding customer service and great Thai food. My kids loved it.
The food was delicious and the service it was really good
Great food here. The yellow curry is just a hint sweet and a ton of flavor. There isn't a bad dish
I love this place. Always have. Service is awesome. It's always clean. No mistakes on orders. Just perfect!
Exorbitant pricing , too little quantity , average quality. Not at all an experience you
Would like to have in a Thai restaurant !!
excellent food, great service, comfortable atmosphere. I recommend the lotus cups for an appetizer and the ying yang for dessert. I will definitely eat there again.
The best Thai food in all of DFW. Go out of your way for this place. House cashew chicken and panang curry chicken are excellent. Also highly recommend soy noodles with beef.
Tried it for the first time tonight.. not for us.. got 6 shrimp in my entire meal that was $16 and the peanut sauce has tons of peanuts in it.. we have Been to a ton of Thai places and never have had actual peanuts in my sauce. I also requested no peanuts in my food so when opening the sauce and seeing itβs completely peanuts I was extremely disappointed. You also donβt get very much food for the price either. Small options also. Needs to be lower price for what you get and they need to clarify especially if someone specifically asks before ordering is they can get NO PEANUTS!
Wings were very dry . They didnβt have any flavor and for 8 dollars 5 wings seem very overpriced, considering the quality. Pad Thai was not good. It barely had chicken . I really liked the peanut sauce tho!
Not a good environment will never be going again!
Food was hot and fresh....it was too salty and the meat ratio was off-putting mostly vegetables.
Mediocre at best. Stopped for lunch. The portion was small. The green curry seemed watered down. The waitress was sweet and attentive, otherwise it would have been two stars.
I'd rather try the other places in town than return here next time.
Has really declined in quality! Used to love this place.
Ordered curry fish cakes appetizers. Rubbery, inedible. Friend had to run to the bathroom to spit it out. And we still got charged! Called later to speak with managerβ same excuse as server, βIt says on front of menu that because of Covid food cannot be sent back.β They lost a longtime customer!
Had the sweet basil garlic chicken for lunch. It was delicious and the right amount for lunch. I will be back.
Always great service. The food is always good and if you like having a drink or two with friends the byob aspect will definitely save you some money. I have liked basically everything I have tried and the owners are super nice
Good food, but make sure you order your food extra spicy. I ordered at a level 3 spiciness and could barely taste it.
Add the curry chicken yummy
Rude rude rude
Noodles were spongy and lacking flavor. Also very basic/simple as far as Thai food goes. Even the fried rice came without any extra vegetables - only rice. Our 6 yr old asked where the carrots and peas were. Not bad, but left a lot to be desired.
The cost is relative to what I'm used to paying for Thai food, but the experience wasn't stellar. The portion sizes are about a third of what you'd get ordering the same type of entree from (for example) Chinatown Cafe, and this is a bit more expensive. On top of that, the sauces felt very thin and scarce. The ingredients felt like they were tossed together just before going out (EX: The chicken arrived on top of the other ingredients, and was mostly unsauced). They bill their cashew chicken as famous, but it was pretty underwhelming; cashews were whole, and you could heavily taste the oil in which the chicken had been cooked. The spring rolls felt mostly like air, due to the heavy amount of iceberg lettuce in them; with the only real pop there being the basil. The rice was also rather plain, even by sticky rice standards. The sauces were quite good, and everything we ordered was there. Not terrible food. I just don't plan on trying this again anytime soon.
We get Thai food a lot and almost always order the same items. Relative to other Thai restaurants, this restaurantβs portion sizes were REALLY small while actually more expensive than other restaurants. The food tasted fine but took a really long time (it initially said it would arrive at 6:45 but then kept getting pushed back and didnβt arrive until 7:15).
I ordered sweet basil ginger with tofu which cost $11+. The dish that was served you can count the tofu cubes, if Iβm not mistaken 6-7 small cubes and the rest are small pieces of mushrooms, carrots and a bunch of onions. It isI not worth the money.
Fast efficient service
MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT. Please consider eating here because the vibe is chill, the servers are so sweet, and the food is so delicious!!! I tell all my friends to eat here. You should too. Don't listen to all these bad reviews, portion sizes are not supposed to be TEXAS sized, you fiends. You guys are unnatural. Also, if you have a problem with the portion size maybe you're just fat and eat like a big pig. Go back to the pig stye. Haterz. >:P
Disappointed with the food
The food was good but why are the portions so small? The dinner size has me wondering what the lunch sizes are like.
Gross!! Watered down curry! Fish and chicken cooked on same grill obviously so the chicken has a fish task! Portion size is so tiny! Def not worth the money for quality or size!!
I've been a customer since Sweet Basil first opened many years ago, and their food is constantly delicious. The heavenly beef appetizer is a must, but I do miss the lotus cups! Keep up the great food and service!
All of the negative reviews on here and probably from people who hate their lives. Best curry Iβve had in my entire life. Our server was the sweetest and so attentive. This is a local gem and anyone who says other wise can fight me!!!! All the bad reviews are from people getting take out too. Not fair to review them badly for take out food. Quite being lazy and go out and eat.
It was okay. Fair portion size and decent service time. Nothing bad but nothing really great. Our server was very sweet!
The first time I got delivery from there, it wasn't anything to write home about. The Tom kha soup is delicious though.
Very yummy and very good sized portions! I got coconut ice cream which was delicious, and not something you can just get anywhere! Definitely will be back, tons of vegetarian friendly and gf options too!!
Good food and service
Had a great experience at Sweet Basil. Friendly courteous waitress and the food was delicious as always. Have been patronizing their establishment for years and always have a good experience
My husband and I LOVE this place! We recommend the House Cashew Chicken.
Worst service experience I have ever had anywhere was right here. We never return.
I love the thai food!
So, I'm one of those people that likes to judge a restaurant based on how well they do certain appetizers. In this case, crab wontons. The crisp part of the wontons seemed stale, maybe the oil is off or they fried for just too long, and they also wouldn't pull apart. Not to mention, the cream cheese crab stuffing had no taste to it. Next item, Shrimp Pad Thai, where the shrimp tasted slightly 'off,' noodles stuck together, and the flavor of it was 'meh.' Thai Tea wasn't bad, but not the best I've had in area, which at that price point, I'd sooner go to the other place near UNT campus. The main redeeming feature of my order was the Tom Kha Ga, which is hard for places to make a flavor profile I like, but this one actually had a nice almost sweetness to it, though this soup was lacking in texture by being quite watery as well as having measley amounts of chicken or veggies. I'd order again, but only if I wanted just soup.
Hands down, my favorite Thai restaurant. Their food is absolutely fantastic and of great quality. I have often ordered delivery from them, and the food always comes hot and fresh. When I dine in, the staff is kind and on top of things. This place is fantastic! I will gladly support Sweet Basil during this hectic time in the world.
Super yummy βΊοΈ
Love the cashew chicken!
Very quaint but awesome food
Green curry was basically just yellow curry with lots of green bell peppers & a few eggplant chunks. No basil or other veggies. I have had green curry at many different restaurants & this was not like any green curry I have ever had. Tom Yum soup smelled like wet dog, but I've never had Tom Yum soup before so I have nothing to compare it to :/
I really wanted to like this place because of their gluten free options, but will not be eating here again. :(
Bland food but quick. Smelled kinda like dog food
Love the gf options
It cost $78 for three entrees, the food took 1.5 hours to arrive, and they forgot the rice for all three entrees. When I called the restaurant, the manager said there was nothing she could do about it. What a missed opportunity, lady! And the food that did come wasn't anything to write home about. Avoid!
If you have an allergy to food DO NOT EAT HERE! I would have given more stars as other items ordered were good but I ordered a dish and asked for no green peppers. Well they put a whole bunch of peppers!!
As anyone who hates green peppers knows you cannot pick them out. I asked to remake and please do not just pick out the peppers. They just picked them out and then adamantly stated it was remade. Four others at our table agreed it tasted of green peppers. What if I had an allergy?!
The food was just ok. Peanut sauce lacks much peanut flavor and was very thin. I personally prefer a thicker sauce. Spring rolls were fairly bland and the vegetables were too crisp for my liking. Service was phenomenal even with it just being me eating alone.
Delicious food! The Cashew chicken and the spring rolls are to die for.
Just ordered some food through doorsash...very low quality Thai food ...waste of money , spend $35 on two dinner meals
Always love eating here. Their Cashew Chicken is the BEST!
Excellent customer service. Food is good and nice environment to actually visit with friends.
My husband and I ate lunch and really enjoyed the food. The panag curry for delicate and tasty. Our server was prompt and friendly
I got the Tom Kha soup as a side and the Pad Thai with pork and Jasmine tea. I thoroughly enjoyed the tea, the soup was delicious, but the Pad Thai was not anything special. It was a satisfying meal and I'll be back, but the noodles were a bit overdone or something so the texture wasn't what I look forward to when I order the dish, and it didn't have all the fresh veggie sides I've gotten at other places that add to the experience so nicely, though they did include a lime wedge, crushed peanuts, and a few sprouts.
Not good. Orders pad kee now with beef level 4. It wasnβt hot, there was less than 4 oz of beef in the whole dish, on top of that it was just steamed noodles and veggies. None of the pad kee mow flavor that makes the dish the dish was in there. I could stay home and eat oily steamed food. Do not spend your money here unless you thrive on disappointment
The service was good but the food was very bad. My food was not flavorful at all and had too much oil. Even my wifeβs red curry tasted like some chemical and was very watery. It didnβt even taste like any other Thai food we have had so far. They probably prepared some frozen food items or they have a bad cook in the kitchen
The food here is really hit or miss. Its either fabulous or inedible. I wish they consistently made the dishes the same and they were always fabulous!
I love this place! Service is always so fantastic, and food so dang good!
Great food for a good price!
Great authentic Thai food. Friendly staff.
Waitress was very nice, and our appetizer was decent, but the main meal tasted like over cooked refrigerated boiled chicken in noodles and sauce cooked in toilet water. It was horrid. I told the waitress I wasnβt going to eat anymore, and that something was wrong with it (I was hoping at least. Old boiled chicken and fishy tap water sauce is not what I expect from Thai restaurants) and she asked if I wanted anything else. I had literally taken two bites, but had lost my appetite at that point. Maybe it was an off night, but that was a sad experience considering I was having a date night with my wife and it was her choice. Oh well.
The crab rangoon tasted old frozen and no flavor at all. The chicken was hard and overcooked. We asked for level 4 and 5 horness... and none of it was hat and everything tasted the same. The salad rolls were really good and fresh. The spring rolls were very good as well....thus the 2 stars. The peanut sauce was lumpy and had zero flavor. The cooks definitely lost their passion here...
Fast. Friendly. Professional. Clean.
Excellent food, friendly service
Food was really good but the waitress was not very good
Best Cashew Chicken in Town!
This restaurant has fantastic food and great service. I came here with a friend and it is now our favorite restaurant of all time. The Chicken Pad Thai, duck and desserts were all top-notch quality. We were very impressed!
Tasty Tai food!!!
Beef Broccoli didn't taste very good......t was very gamey and had a Fish taste to it. The Yellow Curry was really good though. Also the Pad Thai had an interesting smell and wasn't great either. I think I could go here again for Curry, but that is about it. I wish it were better as it was our first time coming here and it wasn't cheap.
Great spot! Delicious food.
