Located in the heart of Murfreesboro, Som Tum Thai is a traditional Thai restaurant offering an authentic culinary experience. With a warm and inviting atmosphere, Som Tum Thai is a local favorite, serving delectable Thai dishes crafted with fresh ingredients and traditional Thai cooking techniques. Whether you're looking for a taste of Thailand or a cozy place for a family gathering, Som Tum Thai is the perfect destination for tantalizing Thai cuisine in a welcoming and comfortable environment.
Been on the hunt for a good Thai spot but still have yet to find one! My family and I tried Som Tum Thai this past Saturday and unfortunately it was a bit lacking.
First off I will say when you first walk in the smell of soap hits you in the face. Could be a good or bad thing depending on if you’re sensitive to strong scents. I just personally found it off putting but others may like find it appealing.
I will say our waitress was very kind and attentive during our meal. Other than that I feel like the rest of my experience was negative.
I will say out of my family I am the pickiest eater so it’s harder for me to find places I like eating at compared to them. They’re a lot more lenient when it comes to restaurants we try.
At Som Tum Thai I ordered the Thai tea to drink, crab Rangoon for appetizer then vegetable pad Thai and panang curry for my main course. Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy any of it.
The Thai tea tasted like it came out of a bottle or can I could purchase at any Asian grocery market. The size is also very small. The crab Rangoon was ok but lacked filling. Then the vegetable pad thai was very salty, I’m not sure if it’s whatever they use to increase the spice level because my sister got the same thing but no spice and she said hers tasted fine. Whereas mine came out salty.
I think the only item that was somewhat good was the panang curry. I had no complaints about that dish. But as for the rest, unfortunately it lacked flavor or had too much (salty) flavor.
I’m sure my family wouldn’t mind coming back but for me personally I think I will continue to look for other good Thai restaurants in the area.
Stopped by this place as a recommendation from a mutual Thai food lover and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is small with limited seating but it is clean and the staff was welcoming, kind, and attentive. I had fried dumplings as an appetizer. They were a little different than than the typical pan fried dumplings. These were very crunchy but still excellent. Also had Pad Kee Mao with fresh Thai chilies and it was amazing! Overall a great experience.
Found this place by accident and I’m so glad. The shrimp was lightly breaded and absolutely delicious. With several levels of spice my family loved it so much we wanted to go back the next night. We also had a chicken dish and the chicken was super juicy. We had added them to our favorite restaurant list and they’ll be on your favorite list also!
Firstly, thank you for seating us so late!
We are glad we stopped by.
We started with a pot of Jasmine Hot Tea for the table, pretty standard bagged tea.
Then came the papaya salad - american style, it is made in a sweet and sour sauce, wasn't my favorite as I'm a fan of the original recipe but wanted to try it anyways, which next time I will and update my review. The salad portion was very fair for price.
Ordered the Ginger Shrimp appetizer and OMG possibly my new favorite way to have shrimp, it was so flavorful and delicious.
The crab rangoons were pretty standard nothing special about them to make them stand out.
The Lao sausage was tasty, another pretty standard appetizer, although I will mention the portion was large and the chili sauce served with it was fantastic!
The kids had the chicken lo mein noodles from the kids menu and they enjoyed it.
The Tom Yum soup was possibly the BEST item we ordered, the soup was packed with lemongrass flavor and veggies, only regret was getting a cup instead of a bigger portion but alas we shall be back for more!
Another top item I'd recommend was the Lab Nah Noodle dish, we got it with shrimp.
I loved the gravy style sauce vs most places that serve a watery version of it, the noodles were really able to soak it up and acquire the fantastic flavor. The veggie portions are pretty skimp on this dish but the noodles were abundant. Would order again and request extra veggies.
I do wish the dishes came out spicy as ordered so many places hold back on the spice level for some reason.
The ladies' bathroom was spacious and clean.
Would definitely recommend and bring out of town guest here.
The staff was also very polite.
This place is disgusting I went in for a quick bite bc I had a concert to go to I ordered the pad kee Mao and it was extremely salty and the meat had a strange taste. I will not recommend coming here unless your taste buds are absolutely fried!! Go to Pad Thai cafe instead they are wayyy better their lemon grass and pho is superb!! This place is awful and the prices aren’t great either. Whoever is cooking must be really old and not aware of how much salt they are putting in the food. Just by looking at this place you know it’s bad and the tinted windows make it ominous and untrustworthy!!
Without a doubt the best Thai place in town. Me and my wife have made this our favorite place to eat, period. Big servings, great flavor, nothing else compares.
It was tasty and a happy spot to visit

Small and overpriced shrimp fried rice , pad Thai is the best way to go
Without a doubt the best Thai place in town. Me and my wife have made this our favorite place to eat, period. Big servings, great flavor, nothing else compares.
This restaurant is a hidden gem on S. Chuch. With so many incredible Thai options on this side of town, down be afraid to venture out and give Som Tum a shot! Salt and pepper wings are a must!

Lovely place! Everything on the menu is delightful! If you like food with strong flavor you will love it.
Ordered the Pho. The broth tastes like a bland chicken bouillon cube was mixed with water. Meat portions were incredibly small. The portions of the sides of lime, onion, bean sprout, and jalapeños were small too. Definitely won’t be ordering the Pho again. I usually get it from another local place that costs significantly less and the portion is at least twice as much. Only ordered here because it was closer. Had to add so much extra stuff from my spice and sauce cabinet to make it taste anything like Pho is supposed to taste like. Will be back to try other dishes though because the service at pickup was pleasant.
This place gets better every time I eat here. The cooks put love and care into their dishes and it certainly shows. They're amazing.
This place used to be so good and have great service but it’s lacking as of lately. They have teens running the place in the front of the house and in the kitchen. When you make a Togo order please check the menu and confirm your order when you make it on the phone. I Ordered take out and when I called the girl took my order and said there was no level of spicy when it says it clearly states so in the menu. I looked up the menu again when I got home after picking up my food and called back to confirm so I know for the future if I return and she blamed it on me saying I must have been talking too fast bc she didn’t understand what I meant. Definitely not true bc when I called it took her a min to great me bc she was checking someone out and trying to multitask at the same time. They got to get it together.
Good food here but walked in at 7:45, an hour and 15 minutes before closing, and they had already closed their kitchen. On a Saturday night. End of story.
Great food.
Best Thai restaurant I have ever eat
The Bang Bang Shrimp was absolutely delicious. Service was friendly.
This place is all time comfortable and best food. Cheap and very fast service. 10/10 recommend and would do it again.
I’ve been to Murfreesboro several times and I have to question myself, how could I missed this spot? This little gem is located not too far from where I stayed . I wish I have more room to try different dishes. I had me a lad na seafood added spicy level 5 and it came out perfectly how I wanted it. The Thai Tea tastes better than most places. But best of all it was Joanna(the owners daughter)who greeted us at the door and continued checking on our table to ensure we are satisfied with the foods. I cleaned up my plate and highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for the best Thai foods in town. I will definitely come back here again on my next visit. Keep up the good work Som Tum team, you guys are doing an awesome job!!!
My family and I love everything we have eaten since we were in Thailand… very authentic and very tasty. we highly recommend the red & green curries, pad, Thai, fried calamari, Tom yum soup, and more… even our daughter who never tries anything new thinks the fried calamari is awesome!!! Best Thai in Murfreesboro! Great food and service…🤓
Loved the food and soups were spot on! I don't mind paying for good food that I'm not going to make at home....I had a pad dish and my friend had b ang bang shrimp..we loved it!

Picked up takeout. We knew it was going to be good as soon as we smelled it, best Thai food since we were in Thailand a few years ago. Fried rice and green curry were so good.
The chicken phò was amazing! Staff was friendly and the restaurant was very clean! Will be eating again at this cute place.
Went in ask for a menu and started reading the lunch specials. I asked the girl at the front counter if anything was gluten free. Like the orange chicken, she says oh I don't know what they put on it. I said it could be panko. But she was too busy playing with her cell phone so I put the menu down and walked out. In the same shopping center there's a Japanese place called Koji I got my lunch from them. All she had to do was turn around and take two steps into the kitchen and ask them if one of the lunch items was gluten free. But she couldn't be bothered. I'll never go in there again. I don't care if the food was free.
Love it
10 out of 10
The Panang Curry is phenomenal!
It's my favorite Thai place in town. Pad Kra Pow is fantastic every time. I'm usually well past the point of full but the food is so good I want to keep eating.
The best Thai food here in Murfreesboro. Hands down.
Great food., but you can never know if it’s open or not.
Best authentic Thai food in Middle Tennessee.
Good food, but it can get expensive.
Red curry chicken spice lvl 3 was great. Packed full of flavor. Loved all the vegetables, spice was spot on. Portion was small, ran out of rice before finishing the curry. But the flavor made up for it. $15 and I'm still hungry.
I was introduced to Laos style food a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with the papaya salad I usually order mine in a 5 if you aren't into hot then get a 1 it pairs greatly with the salt and pepper wings, the sticky rice and or the sausage you can't go wrong I promise...... I order from here once a week and have never been disappointed unless it's a Tuesday and they are closed hahahahahaha all in all a good place to sit in or order out

Salt and Pepper wings are delicious
Had an excellent order of yellow and Massaman curry & vegetarian fresh rolls from here yesterday. Truly surprisingly delicious. Loved the addition of lots of fresh basil and plenty of veggies in the curry. Thank you! I look forward to exploring more options here.
This place has the absolute best edamame hands down. But, their beef pad thai is great! I love that they level their spices 0-5, so each dish can be tailored for you. Also, if you've never tried Pho before, definitely try it from here. They're really nice at explaining what the dishes are, so if you have questions or need a suggestion, just ask them. They're all super friendly and super helpful.
Also, side note, our kids love their sweet and sour chicken, so that's always a win in our book!
Very good pho will be back definitely.
My family eats here often and it is always soooooo Delicious… fresh , Flavorful , soooo Good
Great food, friendly staff. This is one of those restaurants you will find yourself eating at more then once a week. Fast service, not over price, feel good food, and delicious it will fulfill your soul for sure.
I ordered the Kao-Phoun and Kai-Nam love them both. These are so AUTHENTIC & fantastically good. Definitely will be coming back to get more to curve hungry crazes. Thank you for serving real authentic Laos/Thai food :)
Absolutely and completely unworthy of your business 😕 After nearly doubling the prices the least that should be offered is consistency. It's always hit and miss. When it's good it's really good. But today was a HUGE miss. Not a suble change, but I was given a completely different dish than what I ordered and always order 😳 When I addressed it I was told different people cook and that's "just the way he does it" and refused to remedy the situation at all. Unacceptable and I surely won't be back.

Pad Thai was delicious and a huge plate full
I got the chicken pad thai. It came out to 15 + change. The flavor was good, but I was disappointed on how little chicken was in my dish. Especially because tge price was on the high end.
Prices have increased 50% on many menu items and portions are smaller. I used to eat here two or three times a week. It's sad, smaller portions and higher prices. Not sure who owns this place but they might want to rethink these changes, before they end up with no customers and closing. I will not dine here anymore, too many other spots to dine in and not get ripped off in the 'boro.
I ordered a chicken fried rice, egg rolls and a small egg drop soup and it was 26 bucks. The same thing was 16 on grub hub but i figured I'd call it in thinking it would be cheaper, I was wrong. I never got a totally till I went up there to pick up the food. After paying I went home and opened my bag... the rice was not only burned but it was in a box half the size of a regular togo box. The bag was tied so I didn't get to see what was inside and it didn't have any sauces inside. The egg drop soup didn't have any wonton chips for it either. The rice was 18 dollars and it was half what you get anywhere else. The quality was bad, very burned, and the portions were small and not worth the money, I'll never go back there
My wife and I loved the curries. Our son loves the fried rice. Service is excellent as well.
Excellent food and really great service. Best Thai in Murfreesboro.
Great food and staff!!
Went for the first time a couple of days ago. Food was very good and the Thai tea was strong the way we like it. Had the red curry and it was well put together. Creamy and tasty with plenty of white meat chicken and veggies. Staff super friendly and the place was nice and clean. I'll even compliment the server who was cleaning the table next to us for taking obvious care not to overspray cleaner into the air. Great food with all of the little things that matter as well. We just moved here so it's on our go-list now.
Loved the food here. One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to. They know how to make pad thai right.
Everything was great, the waitress was polite and the food was terrific🔥🔥
Excellent service and food as always! A wonderful establishment and even more wonderful food. Only complaint was a wobbly table, but that is easily overlooked. I recommend this place to everyone who will listen.
The best Thai food I have had in a long time! Great service too!
Meow! Food is the perfect spicy level. Bark!
The food and the service were awesome! Will definitely be back!
My go to place in Murfreesboro for red curry! Always good food & consistent service. Small dining area with only one table large enough for six people but they have a large takeout business. Som Tum Thai has a Mon.-Fri $9.99 lunch menu. If checking this restaurant out during the weekend it will be a bit higher. Average cost for red curry is $13-14+tip. Worth every bit of it. Restaurant is in a strip mall so parking is good.
Thai is my favorite food and I've tried a lot of them. The food here always feels like its made with pure love. Everything is delicious. The price for the amount and quality of food you get is hard i always leave either stuffed or with enough food to have a meal the next day or later that night. When dining in i always feel comfortable and as if i was eating a meal with friends and family a very welcoming atmosphere and extremely accommodating staff
Som Tum Thai is a wonderful little Thai restaurant with a number of assorted dishes including other ethnic regions such as Vietnamese, Lao, and other east Asian inspired dishes. You can never go wrong with any of their stir fried noodle dishes (Pad Kee Mao, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Lad Nah, etc). Their pho is excellent if you need a noodle soup, as is their Thai Red Curry if you're looking for something other than noodles. Also refreshing is either their Thai Tea or Thai Coffee. I always come back for their Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) though!
Just ate here for the first time....ordered the Pho it was delicious be back for sure
Excellent food and the staff is courteous. Definitely will be back
Hands down best Thai in Murfreesboro. Ive eating here almost weekly since they opened. Tried the majority of the menu and everything has had amazing flavor and big portions. Literally nothing here has disappointed. Pork belly stir fry and drunken udon are a couple dishes I haven’t seen anywhere else and they are phenomenal. Lad nah has a bit more sweetness than other restaurants I’ve tried it at, similar to the drunken noodle flavor and loaded down, probably my favorite dish.
Best Thai food in Tennessee and don’t have to worry about how hot it is going to be! My fiancé ate the rest of our children's chicken fried rice the other night and said it was the best he had ever had. Said he could have made a meal just on that alone! We will definitely be going back!
Quick, slightly high on price but always good and the portions are big. Gluten free options.
Great food might want to rethink their music personally I would not have order if the f bomb was being dropped every few seconds when I walked in.
Good flavors. We had salt and pepper shrimp and calamari, crispy duck, fried rice, fresh shrimp spring rolls, chicken pho with fresh mint leaves. Servings were not overly large, food was hot and very good. Casual.
I work near by this place. So i get the chance to come try they food.love this place very yummy food .and the owner was very friendly too .i ll be back.
This is a popular place, but it is not for people who are used to really good Thai food. There was nothing subtle about the spices in my dish. For the uninitiated, you are allowed to choose how hot/spicy you want your food on a level of 1 to 5. I had hot tea so don't know if they serve beer or wine.
Great food. My favorites are the Salt and Pepper Wings, Pho Chicken, Pad Thai, and Seafood Dish.
super nice staff and great food!!
Very good food I'm definitely coming back
Excelente servicio, muy amables!! Muy delicioso 😋 🤤
Food is always hot, fresh, and tasty!
Always great food! Of the best Thai restaurant in the boro
Always consistently great quality food with great flavor. Albeit we've only had the lomein and pad thai but those two dishes are done well.
We order from here a lot because how great their food and service is. Truly in a place where good and dining is hard to come buy this place stands out.
Good food, uncomfortable seating.
Rice was dried out like it had been sitting awhile, meat was so tough I couldn't eat it.
This place is incredible, the food is amazing ,the staff has always been so kind and accommodating. The atmosphere in the restaurant whether busy or slow is relaxed and friendly. I recommend this place to anyone who wants something as close to authentic as possible.
great food server was amazing will definitely visit this little hidden gem.many many more times in the near future...
Absolutely amazing! Our new favorite Thai restaurant. My husband and I have many other Thai places in our area and out of state. This is the absolute best we’ve ever had. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Amazing food and staff. Second to none.
Food was good until I found egg shells in my hibachi chicken 🤢🤮 I will not ever be eating here.
Excellent restaurant! Great customer service and the food was awesome. Highly recommend their Thai fried rice.
Strait Fire. All you need to know.
Outstanding food, an all-round amazing and fast service I will definitely come back soon
The service is friendly and quick, the food is delicious. I love the curry. I highly recommend coming here for a relaxing meal.
Atmosphere is super chill. As for the food if nothing else, the salt and pepper wings are super yummy
We discovered this little gem by accident, because our other go-to spot had a super long wait and we were starving at the moment. Boy, did this place come through and satisfy our cravings! Not only is the food oh-so delicious, the service is friendly and cheerful. They have continued to impress us with each subsequent visit. Highly recommend.
Must try the salt and pepper wings with papaya salad!! I order from here at least 2 times a week for lunch!
Good good. Great service
Good food, large portions, and fair prices. I recommend the chicken Thai lo mein with a order of fried spring rolls, easily feeds two people.
Amazing, you won't be disappointed!
Really clean and nice place to eat. Food is delicious.
Very good. Nice dining room too. Service was great on a busy night. They do lots of takeout.
Best Thai in Murfreesboro!
We’re very happy that we live close to this place. Not only is their staff amazing but their food is superb too! I LOVE their chicken fried rice(they are very generous with the rice). Their orange chicken and larb are bomb too! They have a great combination of food on their menu that will surely make anyone have a hard time choosing. We’ll be back again and again for sure! Highly recommend them!
Seriously fresh vegetables, house made sauces daily, they haven't told me that, its just obvious that they care about their ingredients and every bite is more surprisingly flavorful than the last. There are many Thai restaurants in Murfreesboro, I've tried most of them, none come close to this. Please eat here often, we must support our local businesses who serve fresh authentic ethnic foods. They are a great local family too who will always great you with a smile :)
I just ordered your beef short ribs with steamed rice, my second time here, FN delicious, I have fell in love with Thai food again. Every bite is savory. Well displayed even with a to go order, I can’t wait to to try more items on your menu! Thank you for a delicious meal!
Hello your food is the best!
Oh boy this is my favorite place for thai cuisine great food. Dee
Just ate here for the first time. The service was excellent and extremely fast, despite being busy when I came in. The price is reasonable for the portions offered. The food was delicious! Very fresh, very spicy, excellent presentation, all in an intimate and modern atmosphere. Absolutely recommend for a date or small party.
If I could give a 0 I would, the short ribs are horrible so is the "spicy" duck which had 0 spicy in it. Not authentic at all. If you like real authentic Thai or Korean food not the place to go. The food was better before the name change. Very disappointing and huge waste of time. I'll stick with my drive to Antioch to get real Korean food.
I have only ever ordered "carry out" Everytime my food is always ready within 15 minutes - FRESH and HOT!!! Generous portions for a reasonable price. The Pad Thai and Thai rice are excellent menu items to order. The spring rolls are excellent and crispy. In my opinion Som Tum is one of the best Thai restaurants in Murfreesboro!
The food is delicious and the service is great!
Food was very good but the service is absolutely HORRIBLE. The waitress forgot things constantly and rolled her eyes anytime anything was asked for.
The food we had was okay. But I was disappointed with the server. They should have wait for us to finish our foods before coming to clean the table. The restaurant wasn't that pack at that time and I dont see why they need to be so in rush
Best new Thai in town. Great service.
Great atmosphere and customer service. Food is amazing can’t wait to go back!
The Pho beef was delicious! Very authentic and spicy! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Best Thai cuisine around hands down!!
Great food, big portions and great service :) Thank you Aleah!
Yesterday was my first time here at Som Tum Thai. I came with a party of 4. I had beef pho and my husband had the thai fried rice. It was delicious! The pricing is reasonable as well.
The waitress did not refill our drinks- but our overall experience was good, so I am giving Som Tom Thai a 4 star rating.
We enjoyed our dinner, will definitely return!
We’ve been here several times now and haven’t had an issue with the food at all. I feel like they could use more servers though. Each time the food was very good. The papaya salad is the best one I’ve had in town.
Absolutely Delicious!!! Right portion sizes !!! Great staff. The chef is phenomenal !!! He actually came out to see what we thought about the food !!! Amazing place... We will definitely return and recommend to everyone!!!
The worst excuse for Thai Food I have ever been to. Could not eat it and server was terrible. Don't waste your money.
Everything was fresh and delicious. Great people and service.
Food was awesome .
Delicious food, priced great and very nice people. Definitely will be back!
Yum! Yum! YUM! My husband and I are always looking for a place that has Pad Thai that isn't overwhelmed with fish sauce. Let's just say tonight, we FOUND IT. It was AWESOME!
We also ordered the Chicken Delight. It had a slightly sweet brown sause that was very good! My husband even ate the veggies that came with it! 😂
I'd say more about the Pad Thai but I will Sum it up for you.. If you want good food, good service and full belly... Go to Sum-Tum Thai!
