Cozy strip-mall cafe serving Thai faves such as tom yum soup & spicy stir-fries, plus Asian beer.
Our family loves Thai food. So, I write this review with mixed feelings. I wanted to love it, but our experience was a bit mixed. We ordered the Spring Rolls and Chucken Satay as appetizers. Both were very good. However, for the price, the portions were a bit small. For main entrees, I order the Spicy Lemongrass and my wife got the Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was one of the best tasting versions of this dish we've ever eaten! The ingredients were well balanced and it was moist (many times it comes out dry at a lot of places). However, I love lemongrass and had high hopes for my dish. I got it with beef, and while there was nothing wrong with it exactly, it was still disappointing. With that name, I fully expected a light, fragrant, full-flavored lemongrass dish. Instead, the lemongrass was almost non-existent. So, the dish was a bit one dimensional and almost heavy. It was good, but not above average.
The service was pretty good. But the sweetened tea was so very sweet. Overall, we may try it again if we are in the area, but we will not drive 30 minutes out of our way for this experience again as we did this first visit.
I heard good things about the place however, I was a bit disappointed after visiting. I’m a big fan of Asian food altogether, so maybe I’m a bit picky too. We started with a papaya salad and a crispy fried fish. The fish was extremely good with a perfect crunch, and seasoning. The salad was too much infused with a strong fish sauce ( or, something similar). It didn’t go well in to our palette! In the main course I ordered indian style chili chicken which was extremely hot and spicy ( I’m an Indian and I eat hot and spicy food regularly) . But still that was quite spicy for me. There was no other flavor profile to it. It was served with steamed rice. My other friends got drunken noodles and pad Thai - both the dishes were mild and pretty decent.
Lovely little Thai place with tasty curries. I had the Emerald curry with tofu and it was delicious! My husband had the massaman curry with chicken and he scarfed it down. We had excellent service and they were very nice. Will certainly eat here again.
Thai food here is amazing. We love it. Service is okay. Found them to be sweet and smiling with the white folks, but very transactional & straight face towards others. So that’s the bummer. Among the various times we visited this place, only once we had good service where the lady who took our order was helpful and made good suggestions. But, if you don’t care about the service, then do try this place coz the food served here is the best Thai food I have had so far.
Highly recommended! The food is always hot and fresh.....spice levels are adjustable and when you ask for hot.. .it's hot.... I have had several items here and none of them disappointed.....Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai, spring rolls....all were great
I remember first time I been here was 5 year ago before I moved to Memphis. Their food was so good that they became one of the reasons that I want to move here. They are totally the best Thai restaurant in the city. Be aware when you order spicy, because it’s real Thai Spicy.
Came here Saturday (Feb 22) for lunch with a friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I ordered the Thai Spring Rolls and Tom Yum soup with Shrimp as an appetizer. The soup was greatly spiced and the spring rolls were good. For my meal I ordered the Pad King with Shrimp (steamed rice included) and it was delicious! The ginger was a hit but not overpowering and the Thai spices were amazing. I would definitely order this again. My friend order the same appetizers as I did except she had the vegetarian version of the soup and spring rolls. For her meal she ordered the Thai Salad with no onions. She didn’t like the salad and would not order it again. The customer service was ok.. not good or bad. Overall, I enjoyed my first experience here and will return to try other dishes.
I ordered Khao poon. Unfortunately I did not get khao poon, instead I got something else. The noodle and the curry is not right. Will not come back since it is not authentic. I am combodian so I know what khaopoon is. Zero star for this dish.
A couple of months later……I did come back with my spouse. Ordered the laab beef and green curry soup and they were delicious 5 stars. The angle wings was okay 3 star however would not order again.

The best Thai food you get in memphis.

Good food. Nothing exceptional about the service or decor, but it's very fresh.
The. Best. Thai. Food. I used to think it was the best in our area, but it might be the best outside of Southeast Asia. You cannot order anything bad here. It's not on the menu. Everything is amazing, fresh, and packed with balanced, complex, complimentary flavors. This is my favorite restaurant in the entire world and I hope they stay in business forever. It would break my heart if I couldn't go and see Manila and her family and eat their uniquely delicious food. I'm not joking. If someone told me that every other restaurant in the world would be off limits, and I could only from one place ever again, I would choose Emerald Thai without a second thought.
A tip about the spice levels:
They do Mild, Medium, Hot, and Thai Hot. Mild is very mild. Medium is anywhere from a little spicy to very spicy. This applies to some dishes like the Lab Esan, Papaya Pog Pog, or Yum Neah more than others like the Pad Thai; In those cases, don't ask for anything spicier than Medium unless your heat tolerance is high! My wife cannot handle Medium Yum Neah but she orders Mild Yum Neah and Medium Pad Thai every time. For me, Medium is the sweet spot for a balance of heat and flavor. Please support my favorite place and the wonderful family that runs it. If you don't like the food at Emerald Thai something is wrong with your taste buds.
Last tip: If you like soup, they have great options like Tom Yum and Tom Kha, but my most favorite is something really special: Pho Tom Yum. It's Pho ingredients, but with the Tom Yum soup base and your choice of protein. I get the chicken. It hits the spot every time.
Got food to go. The prices on their website are not the actual prices I was charged. Pad Thai say $9.99, but is $12.99 etc.
Food was ok. I probably won’t be back as much as I hoped for.
Nice people and good food. They let me tweek a regular menu item a little. Very good dumpling and duck
New to area - trying new places. Reviews were ok, so we thought it would have good Thai food. We decided to order popular Thai dish to assess the restaurant. To our dismay, the Pad Thai was flavorless and the green curry sauce was broken and curdled. Interestingly, as I enter the establishment there is a giant sign on the front door says no returns, no refunds, no exchanges. Be warned! If you are looking for “decent Thai restaurant” steer clear from this establishment.
The best Pad Thai in town!!
A wonderful dive for local Thai in an unexpected place. We love their food and are regulars. Their pho ga is our favorite and is the most unique we’ve ever had. We crave it often!
I ordered Khao poon. Unfortunately I did not get khao poon, instead I got something else. The noodle and the curry is not right. Will not come back since it is not authentic. I am combodian so I know what khaopoon is. Zero star for this dish.

My husband and I have loved coming here for years, consistently enjoying the fabulous curry and bringing friends along. However, I did not give 5 stars because we can’t visit as often now due to our toddler; they don’t have highchairs.
The food was not fresh meat was hard, and tasted stale. Khao Soi curry did not taste right either. Atmosphere is average.
This product is overpriced at $27. The portion size is too small to justify the cost. The sticky rice is not properly cooked and the chicken is of poor quality. The restaurant is using Tyson Grilled Chicken breast strips, which are a low-cost ingredient. The papaya salad is the only redeeming quality of the dish.
Some of the best food that I have ever eaten anywhere.

Great Thai tea and pad Thai also the spring rolls are delicious
Food was great. Got the pad Thai also had the pork and chicken dumplings. Flavor was great got the mild and it was just the write spice. Little local spot. You know when other Asians go
To this establishment the food is good. Small little restaurant but the food was great. Will definitely return here if I’m in the area again.
Insanely fresh and delicious!!
Best Thai/ Laotian food in town. If you are looking for authentic food this is your place. Super flavorful dishes. They can kick up the heat if you want 🔥 So good. Recommend the seafood salad, papaya salad, wings, and chicken soup.
Good food. Great service.
Great food and really affordable prices. Inside felt a little run down and may have had a slight smell, but nothing that was an issue preventing me from eating there.
Awesome and authentic food. You won't be sorry.
I heard good things about the place however, I was a bit disappointed after visiting. I’m a big fan of Asian food altogether, so maybe I’m a bit picky too. If you are looking for authentic Thai food this is not it. I odered Drunken Noodles an it syrupy sweet with what looked like frozen vegetables you purchase to make for a soup. Definitely will not go back.
I always get the same thing. Beef rice noodle soup. The broth is so good to me that a lot of times that's all that I eat.
We Love this place. We try to eat there every week
It'd be great if they were open when they say they're going to be. Have gone up there during posted business hours TWICE and the door is locked.
Otherwise, in the times I was able to go and the door was unlocked, it was a good experience.
This is a fake. Never been to an Emerald Thai Restaurant. Address appears to be a different restaurant.
Highly recommend the catfish!
Yum! We’ve been getting our Thai food fix here for a very long time, since it was located on Mt Moriah.
Been here multiple times and every time it hits. 10/10. I recommend this place to all my family and friends. The food is so tasty!
Food was pretty good here, especially their sampler platter, but we did not get the chance to dine in because of the amount of people inside at the time (which is never a bad thing for a business to be busy). I love the location and the staff working there were very friendly.
I think if you prefer your food to pack a punch with flavors, you may need to salt some of their food yourself, but everything else was good.
The food was horrible. The waitress was very rude. I didn't like my meal and asked them to be make it and not charge me refused to recook it and still charge me for the nasty meal.
This was my first time coming to this restaurant and my first experience with Thai food. The older lady who seated my companion and me did so half-heartedly when compared to how I saw her greet and seat other patrons. I ordered the Thai sampler which, on the menu, does give choices of the types of meat that were included in the dumplings and I chose chicken and there was nothing on the menu description that identified catfish as an ingredient for this menu item. I made the choice clear to not include pork and never would have gotten anything with catfish as I do not consume these items for health reasons. The older lady said she thought I meant chicken just for the "satay" (saute') portion of the dish. Not my error. She quickly added that they do not make substitutions and implied that I could not read to which my reply was that I did not ask for a substitution. I asked for what they offered. And yes, I could read because I did not see catfish anywhere in the Thai sampler description. She would not take responsibility for her error that caused me to have 2 items that I could not eat or accountability for items on the menu that were not clearly described that required that me to pay for them in spite of all that was wrong. Even though the food that I could eat was good, I did not feel welcomed, understood or respected. I would hope that newcomers can get a menu that includes clearer descriptions and concerns for people with food limitations in ALL of them. Fortunately, there were no negative effects from eating part of the pork dumpling since it has been decades since I last had something pork. But what if there were? Bad first impression.
spicy vegetable rice is amazing!!
Very good food
Best Tom Yum and Tom Kai soup in the city. Awesome spring rolls. Wonderful chicken zucchini dish. Fried chicken wings are the best in town.
This was my first visit and I was not disappointed. The food and service were great, I highly recommend the chicken emerald curry
Gordon Ramsey needs to go fix this place. Huge menu, good items to choose from. Very expensive for such small portions. We ended up sharing a pad Thai dish between 2 people at a cost of nearly $20. It was okay, but $4 charge for a few thin slices of beef that should be included in the dish price. Ive never had a pad Thai dish where the meat was an extra charge. It was served on a narrow plate and just looked like a micro portion. We were not greeted for several minutes after entering and seating ourselves. No other tables but one lady who works there sitting down…but didn’t talk to us. We were the only customers present. Left the restaurant still hungry. Wish I chose a different place to try out while in town.
I enjoyed an extraordinary soup. The service was friendly and fast, and the atmostphere was casual but clean.
Best Thai food in Memphis, hands-down!
The pad Thai has a strong tomato taste and none of the tradition sweetness. Same thing with Asian star. Not sure why all the Pad Thai I try in TN is awful but so far I’m 0/5
Great food. Great place to try thai food and indian thai food
Excellent
Food was burnt and tasted burnt. Will not be returning.Staff was nice however.
The chicken satay was everything but the rice was overcooked and didn't really taste like Thai Basil
Being that Thai Basil (which was a favorite) had recently closed we were eager to try a new Thai restaurant, especially considering the reviews. I enjoy trying Thai food all around the country and while Memphis isn't the best for that, it has some gems. The atmosphere and interior itself was clean and had a nice feel. However, when it came time to order the waitress was short and dismissed my mothers potato allergy stating no substitutes would be available. I figured it was something already made and with the waitress being an older women decided not to think much of it. We ultimately ordered two curries and a pad thai. The pad thai was average and enjoyed, lots of vegetables, as expected. The curry is where the restaurant really feel short. While full of veggies and a good consistency, the broth was so overwhelmed by the flavor of fish sauce and saturated in salt/sodium that my daughter and I simply could not eat it (and we both got different curry dishes). We didn't expect the waitress to comp our dishes or any such thing but we did want to let the chef know. As I've mentioned before, I've tried thai curry from all over the country and never had I had something taste so unauthentic and flavorless (as in it just tasted like fish). Nonetheless, when we asked the waitress about it her response was simply "what? we don't use fish sauce" and she walked away clearly flustered. Not a sorry, not a I'll let the chef know, not is there something else you'd like, nothing. After that, we quickly paid and left. Their pad thai and other dishes may be alright, but certainly do not get their curry. Never again. I will be driving all the way to downtown for my thai fix.
Great owners, great hole in the wall spot! Best Thai food in memphis metro!
Excellent
Very bad restaurant, not at all authentic thai. Its the worst food you will ever find in tennessee. Please avoid going to this restaurant. Would have given zero star.
Our server manilla was awesome! The food was amazing..I get the soup and king pai dish and have dinner for tonight as well. Best Thai food around memphis area by far. I bring all my friends and family here. Check them out!
Best Thai restaurant in Memphis!
The food is amazing, we use to go there often and recommend it to everybody! Until last week... after waiting for over an hour for our food, they served a table that got there after us and we nicely questioned it and they said they were going to check with kitchen, 15 min later we asked again and said that we were about to give up and they said: ok! I will cancel your ticket with the kitchen! No apology, no explanation, no food! We left and we don't plan to go back.
The atmosphere 1-star is due to always have the TV on with day shows.
We went for dinner and it took us easily an hour or more to get even an appetizer and when they finally brought it, it was wrong order. The entire experience was kinda frustrating.
Everything I go there the food is delicious. And the people are always so nice.
Food was very good, definitely will be added to our go to restaurants.
Quaint mom and pop Thai restaurant. What the place lacks in atmosphere, the food makes up for. There was a wide variety menu items. My companions and I had Pad Thai. Cream Cheese Wontons. Curry Fried Rice w/Chicken and Stir Fried Spicy Seafood Combo. This was my first time trying Thai so I played it safe. However, it was so good I will be more adventurous next time. And there will be a next time.
Best pad Thai
Great food. Follow them since their Mt. Moriah days.
I have driven by many, many times and finally stopped in to give it a try. It was OK but not great. I know it has been a struggle since Covid hit but it’s time to give the place a facelift as it was looking very tired. The food was good but nothing special. Staff were friendly and attentive and prices not too bad. 3.5/10.
Amazing food! Fav Thai place in memphis area.
Best around hands down
Food was very good, a little bit pricier than I thought it should have been and it took them twice as long to make my order. They are a small family operation so I wouldn’t have minded sitting there for an hour but people that came in after me and ordered more food than I did for their to go orders before me so that was a little frustrating.
Love this place. First time I had Thai food was Bangkok Alley which I love. So I was expecting same kind of taste but it was different than what I expected. However, I still love this place. I believe this place offers more authentic Thai food.
Friendly service. Tasty food. Good price. Great experience.
Business kinda went down hill since Covid. No dine in. Place is empty. Food is meeeehhh ok even when vaccination rate is high still no dine in.. what a joke.
So here an update Feb 24/2023
Went in for lunch. Everything was ok. Food was mediocre at best. Was charge a 18% service fee for two people me and my wife. Ask them when? They said two week ago!! Never again!! Lol this place is realy a joke. Nice to know the way of other Asian.
I remember first time I been here was 5 year ago before I moved to Memphis. Their food was so good that they became one of the reasons that I want to move here. They are totally the best Thai restaurant in the city. Be aware when you order spicy, because it’s real Thai Spicy.
Place can be cleaner. Food was good not the best.
Pad thai, chicken satay, fresh spring rolls, Tom yum soup, drunken noodles, everything I've had is amazing! Glad dining in has reopened!
Hands down the best Thai restaurant in Shelby County. Unlike Thai Basil, you get your moneys worth here and the food actually taste good.
Hours are not correct. It opens at 11:30am.
Confirmed by signage on site. Increase in prices and no more lunch menu specials. Meat quality is nothing like it used to be. No longer a lunch favorite. Noticable decrease in customers for lunch.
Very dissatisfied with the quality of the Pad Thai and Massaa Mun(?) and the young lady at the counter wasn't helpful when I explained this was my first time visiting.
Easily my favorite restaurant in the area. My go-tos are the shrimp pad Thai, Tom yung kung soup (with extra vegetables), and red curry with shrimp. YUM!
Decent food and had vegetarian options.
Absolutely delicious pad Thai, thai salad, and spring rolls! Will definitely be back again!
This is my go to restaurant for take out. I am someone who always like to try something new, but I can’t stop coming back to Emerald Thai. I just love the flavors and all the vegetarian options!
Best Thai in Memphis hands down. It’s a bit out of the way if you’re coming from Memphis proper but worth it hands down. Its been a staple in my family for many many years. Can’t find better pad thai anywhere else!
This place is just barely eh... Massaman curry was not good. There are other places that get it done right, this isn't one of them.
Omg I'm impressed taste of authentic Thai food very close to the real thing from Thailand 🇹🇭
Really good food, but the spice level is inconsistent. I always get medium and it was ridiculously spicy last time. Couldn't eat it as is, had to modify it with stuff at home.
Best Thai restaurant in memphis!!
Great food great people
No dine in ..... what a waist of a drive ......
Your missing out on customers who want to be served when we go out ....
Beware! We ordered the Phanaeng Curry. Our food had the odor and taste of rotten, sour meat. I chanced one bite.. I paid for it dearly.
When we talked the woman at the store, (short, dark hair, 50’s) she said - I’ll tell the cook and hung up. We didn’t want money back or a replacement. I called back and she cursed at us and said, too bad, you took it out of the store. We ordered it to go..
So we took her rotten, nasty food back up to the restaurant. When I told her we were returning it - she stayed sitting in the both she was in and just said “ok”.
So we left.
Highly advise that you steer clear.
The food here is the best I've had outside of Thailand. We drive quite a distance just to eat here. We've dined in and taken out. We've gone many times and will go many more.
Great food!
Best Thai food in the Big M-Town.
Gross. Disgusting. Terrible. Run to another city. Memphis does not have good Thai food. I've lived in various other states and have had at least 1 Thai restaurant in each state that was good. Emerald Thai food was bland and not tasty. This was my first and my last experience. Smh. What an embarrassment.
Sept 2021 update: went in for lunch and ordered pad see ew with chicken. The food was hot upon pick up but the food tasted as if it was cooked in a pan soaked in chemicals and was gummy. Disappointed, didn't finish the dish.2 stars because my previous experience was better.
Was fairly priced and food was flavorful. The woman was very nice and took our order with no issue. Would eat here again
I had never been here before until today when a co-worker told me they were going here to pick up lunch and asked if I wanted something...I got the Thai spring rolls and beef yellow curry fried rice. There was SO much flavor in everything, food is fairly priced, servicewas quick and friendly! I look forward to coming back and trying other dishes!
Always delicious!
I had food poisoning from eating their Pad Thai.
We love the Pad Thai and Golden curry! It's our favorite! The food is always yummy - good for lunch or dinner!!
Good yet inexpensive Thai. Great for carry-out when you want something better than the typical fast food/pizza/etc.
Emerald Thai is delicious and I can't wait to go back. Keep in mind as of June 2021 they still had Covid protocols going on and were take out only and their hours were slightly different so I recommend calling ahead. Their 'Thai hot' really is hot. They have Fast service, great tasting food, and really nice employees. I can't recommend Emerald Thai enough and I can't wait to order from them again.
We ordered take out as the restaurant is nearby. We enjoyed the spiciness of the food! I had the spicy orange chicken and my husband had the Spicy Salt Shrimp. Both meals were spicy and delicious. Great Thai food!
Totally worth the 25 minute drive!! Authentic Thai food! I love their Emerald curry and Pineapple fried rice!
Fast, friendly Service
Place said open for dine in but when we got there was for take out only
Good food as always. Great customer service.
Friendly owners, excellent food and prices. A hidden gem!!
Delicious !
Pad Thai was yummy and plenty spicy if you ask for the right spice level and fried rice was good with plenty of veggies added in it. All at reasonable prices too!
Best Thai food in Memphis.
Always great food!
Great food and even better spring rolls
Best Thai food in Memphis!!!
We always loved the yummy taste of their Chicken & Veg fried rice here past two decades, not kidding (even at their old location!!). It beats the taste of many other Thai places in other cities too as per my taste!!
The food is soo delicious. I stumbled upon the restaurant on a whim because it isn't far from my house. Since that day 2 weeks ago, I have ate here 3-4 times. My favorite dish soo far is the Panang Curry. It is a bit spicy, so keep that in mind if you try. This place is one of my new favorites. Definitely give it a try.
Food has always been really good.
Their fried Spring rolls are sooo good, along with their Tom Yum Kung, and spicy sauteed shrimp and crab leg curry!! the sauce they put in their curry is delicious. Actually everything I've had from there has been good!
Delicious, complex flsavors, and not afraid to turn up the heat if requested. Kind, efficient service. Ample portions.
Yum
They chicken wing so yummy it’s the best!!!
Called into order some food for pickup. Once I gave them the numbers of the menu on the one listed on the website I was informed of the wrong items. Once I thought I had the order correct after repeating it multiple times I got to pick up the order. Upon picking it up the prices compared to the ones on the website don’t even match the ones I was charged (not that that’s an issue it’s just not good business practice) I also didn’t receive what I properly ordered.
