Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine has been in established since May of 2005. Our family moved from Pattaya Beach, Thailand to America in 1995 and landed in the Upstate of South Carolina in 1997. With dad's love of cooking Thai food at home, mom's decorative skills, and son's experience in the service industry, Sweet Basil Thai cuisine was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 2005. We started the restaurant with a small 1200 square-feet space in the corner of Pelham Rd. and Highway 14 shopping center. In 2008, we have expanded into 2200 square feet with a renovation of a bar and beautiful Thai decorations. With the love of the restaurant business and our daily effort to perfect our culinary skills, we have become well known in the Greenville area.
We came in last night for dinner and were very pleasantly surprised by everything! Shout out to Annel, she was so nice and was very efficient with our service throughout our time there! We had the Phad Thai with beef and the Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken, and they were absolutely off the charts delicious! The Sweet Basil Thai Tea cocktail was an exceptionally crafted beverage as well! I forgot to take a picture of the food because I was so excited, but I got a picture of the Sweet Basil Thai Tea cocktail... Definitely worth the visit! Will be returning! π
Sweet Basil has been one of my go-to Thai restaurantβs in Greenville for many years. Their cuisine is consistently delicious, featuring a wide array of traditional Thai dishes for American palettes. The flavors are exquisiteβwell balanced with sweetness, fragrance, spiciness, saltiness, and savoriness. On my recent visit, I really enjoyed the soft fried shell crab, (crispy and light) and the sweet basil seafood, both of which exceeded my expectations. The service was attentive, contributing to a delightful dining experience, as it always does. Thank you for another wonderful meal, well worth the visit. Khop khun krap
20Jul2024: This place is great! It was recommended as we came to town for our 6 yr anniversary.
Food: We got the spring rolls as an appetizer and although a little heavy on black pepper, the sweet chili sauce made it better. I got the tofu red curry (medium) and it was delicious. The Thai tea is tasty and helped dowse the heat. My lady got the tofu pineapple fried rice and loved it as well.
Service: Our waitress was very attentive and prompt. Cups always filled and another server when offering to go boxes, asked if I wanted more rice for the curry. She read my mind!
Atmosphere: The restaurant was quiet and had sports playing. We met a lovely couple next to us and conversed with them after dinner.
We look forward to coming again!
Sweet Basil deserves 5 stars every visit! There food is always flavorful, fresh, and hot every time! The service is always top notch. The staff knows the regulars and is friendly to all. The owner often comes out and personally checks on guests food and satisfaction. This place is a true gem for Thai cuisine!
My first visit after work on a Friday. Was able to get a table right away before it got to busy.
I ordered the spring rolls to start of with, but $7 for two rolls were kind of pricey. They were good, but not sure if I'd order them again.
After the spring rolls came my chicken pad Thai. I ordered it hot because I love spicy food. It tasted great but next time I might order it a little more mild. Just for my preference I would have preferred just a little milder. No fault on them of course. Hopefully the next level down of spice still has some kick.
The staff was very pleasant and kept my drink refreshed without asking. It was really good food in a nice atmosphere and will return again.
The service was great and the food even better.
Pad thai is great! I asked for medium spicy, and it didn't disappoint me it had its kick. Fried calamari is also good, the sauce that comes with it it's very good
Three of us dined there after a Peace Center matinee. Itβs been a fixture in our part of town for years now, and Iβm always proud to show Sweet Basil off! Our food was off the charts fabulous and the Singha beer was icy cold!

The staff here are so welcoming and the food here DELICIOUS! I had this yummy soup with noodles and sprouts and tofu. It was HUGE lolol and I enjoyed it again even more that night. Oh man, I am getting a craving for it just thinking about it heheh.
Love the spring rolls
Super cute dinning room and VERY attentive staff! My favorite local Thai place!
I love this place.
Best Pad Kra Pao (If you know, you know) outside of Thailand!! What a gem in the Upstate

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too
Great food, Thai hot isn't real Thai hot, but it still is very good and worth trying!!!!!

Always outstanding!
Always excellent!
Great place. Prices reasonable.
I was surprised how expensive this place was. We ordered an appetizer dumplings and it was 4 dumplings for $10. And these were not giant dumplings. Also ordered a Thai iced tea which was a very small glass with no refills for $5. The environment is pretty dark and the staff was not very friendly. When we were walking to be seated, the employee tossed our menus on our table and walked away. And it was not very busy at all, lunch on a Friday afternoon. I personally will not be back. Really wish I took photos
Excellent place!
Attentive and kind service. Plus, the food was fantastic!
Great place to eat. Once you enter the restaurant, you are taken back by the atmosphere. Only thing is the spice level is inconsistent depending on who cooks.
Service was the best part of the experience. The pad thai was so over powered with chili pepper seasoning, that was all I could taste. It just wasn't good at all. They can't do spring rolls at lunch?!? I ate 1/4 of the pad thai and disgarded the rest. The prices for lunch were HIGH. $13.50 where other places are under $10.

Please read this carefully! My husband and I just left this restaurant approximately 30 minutes ago. If you are a respectable person, DO NOT go here!!! I am African-American and my husband is half African-American and half Thai. We were both looking so forward to going here. We were first in line to be seated. Three Caucasians came in behind us. The Asian waitress completely ignored us and asked the people behind us how many people were in their party.
I was frustrated, angry and humiliated all at the same time. I have never felt so humiliated in my whole life! This is definitely not acceptable customer service. No one should be treated this way! My husband and I left immediately. We were not going to spend a penny there. We will NEVER go back to Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine in Greenville, SC off of Hwy 14 again. I can't believe people still act this way in 2024! For those who don't believe, racism in Greenville, SC still exists.
This is our go to Thai restaurant in Greenville. The service is outstanding. They remember you and are always attentive. We usually get Curry and it is always delicious. All the employees seem to care which is a rarity in todayβs restaurant trade. Highly recommend.
Never fails! Best Thai around!
Must have a new cook because food not nearly as good as the last time we were there
The service was very good, with constant attendance to our needs. The food was also very, very good and I enjoyed the cuisine. The only negative was I didn't realize how bad my breath was following eating Thai food. My wife wouldn't come anywhere near me. Just being honest. So bring breath fresheners. The food Is well worth it yeah.
Amazing!!!!!
Lovely staff. Restaurant is clean. Food was delicious and came out really quickly. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming here again!
Best Thai food I have ever eaten
Wonderful food, staff has been incredible every time we go, we will definitely continue to return
Our favorite Thai restaurant in town! Weβve been going for years and always have great service and food. We are greeted like regulars even when itβs been awhile between visits. Last night we brought our 2 yo and owners were so sweet to interact with her and bring ice cream at the end of the meal.
Owners and staff are amazing and personable!! Best Thai food we have had in the upstate.
Worst pad thai ever. The food used to be amazing atleast until last year.Maybe the chef has changed. Service was excellent as usual.
Exquisite flavors, calm & peaceful atmosphere, fast/dedicated service. Best Thai I've ever had!
Amazing food and service!
Good service, nice selection of Thai foods. You can choose your own protein on the stir fry menu. Can opt for tofu for a vegan meal.
Had the pleasure of going here on Tuesday night (26/03/2024) with my boyfriend and his Dad. I got the chicken red Thai curry, my boyfriend got the fried cashew Thai style and his Dad got something with seafood and basil.... it was difficult to choose as there were so many options I wanted to try. Our server for the night was Annelle ( I hope I have spelled that correctly) and she was fantastic, really attentive and friendly, nothing was a problem for her, just wonderful. The food itself was really delicious and the portions were very generous and we got what we couldn't finish to takeaway so we could enjoy the rest at home.... which was just as well as I got to try the fried cashew Thai style as well and it too was really delicious ...... the venue itself was lovely and the toilet spotless, I will be back at least once more... but hopefully more than that and I am already looking forward to it!
What a delightful surprise! The food was amazing and so was the service! The atmosphere was also lovely! I will return soon!
I was welcomed at the door and was seated promptly. The waitress brought me water right away and then brought my drink order. The atmosphere was roomy and comfortable. The restaurant was clean and in good order. I ordered spring rolls and Hot Panang Currie.
They were both delicious and the currie was just right on the hotness.
The staff was friendly.
I highly recommend Sweet Basil for your Thai cravings.
Great pad Thai and service.
I don't like writing bad reviews, but this one is deserved.
I stopped in for lunch on a cool rainy day to get some green curry. The hostess and waitress were nice and attentive. I appreciated this.
The food, however, was not great. The curry was too thick, almost like chicken pot pie filling, and I only got 4 shrimp...4. Raise the price for better quality and more shrimp. Also, the jasmine tea was a tea pack and not loose leaf. Again, for the price, this is unacceptable.
Finally, I'm not a fan of having the TV going as a filler.
Our favorite Greenville Thai restaurant. Great food, generous portions, great people. Panang curry is second to none!
Good fast lunch. Everyone was friendly and the food was good and spicy. Just the way I asked for it.
The service was attentive but not overbearing, our food came out fast and piping hot, and the panang curry was absolutely delicious. I will be back and order it again and again!
They have become a bit pricey, but love the way they cook the way I want the dish being a vegetarian!
Our favorite date night spot. The food is wonderful & the staff is always great! 10/10.
Amazingly good Thai food!!!
Food fantastic will be back π
Food is always fantastic. Service can be a bit hit or miss depending on the night - bar service is always good, though if going with a party be prepared to wait, especially on the weekends.
It is located in Pehlam Road, near Simpsonville, in Greenville County.
There are plenty of spaces for parking available.
I would suggest reserving in advance. We didn't reserve and had to wait for 15-20 minutes. Small waiting area available.
Staff is ok, busy, not smiling people. We ordered an appetizer and main course- Pad Kee-Mao, which is Drunken Noodles. I must say it was great! We love Asia. Food, and we have had Drunken Noodles on several locations, but this was best so far! Well cooked, not too sweet, just appropriate π
Highly recommend eating at this restaurant. Will go back again.
They have great food, service, nice people and amazing decoration.
Very good food. Vegetables were fresh, like the eggplant and baby corn. Some dishes had too much raw garlic for my taste. Chicken was good quality too. Servers were either stoic, grumpy or happy. The place was packed and thereβs a great community of regulars who come here often. I love the fact that some items were labeled as containing shellfish. Half of the menu is a drink menu. Itβs good and close to us, so weβll definitely be back.
Our favorite place for date night
Tried a new dish for me, the Red Chili Noodles. It was fantastic.
Generally a very good Thai restaurant! They get the heat just right.
Tonight enjoyed the Thai Fried Rice with Tofu.. heat to hot. Really good. Staff was very welcoming.
I absolutely love dining at this restaurant. The service is outstanding, the food is of the highest quality, and the prices are fair. The owners are not only personable but also genuinely care about their customers and staff. It's an absolute perfection in every aspect.
Excellent ! Finally good food in Greenville. Best shrimp pad Thai , enough shrimp ! Very savory. Crispy and yummy fried calamari.
Great experience! Food is very delicious, friendly staff and the owner Chin is awesome. Will definitely visit when I am back in town from Chicago.
Always top notch. Best Thai in the upstate!
Great sit down restaurant, food was great, understand your level of spicyness before you order
The food was awesome and the service was excellent π
Excellent curry. I will be back.
Lekker eten ,pikant op wens
Delicious food, great service
I'm visiting Greenville for work and this is the first time I've ever been to Sweet Basil. The service was great, the food was DELICIOUS and relaxing atmosphere with splash of elegance. My coworker and I ordered the calamari and sweet basil rolls for apps and had chili noodles and Basil Seafood. I now want to try everything on the menuπ€€ This place is legit!
Best quality thai in the southeast!
Sweet Basil is a very good place to eat. If you are vegan and looking for a good dish then definitely stop in. They will cater to your dietary needs. The different curry options are great.
Everything on the menu is great! My favorite is the massaman curry.
My daughter started eating Thai cuisine at age 5 because that's when Sweet Basil opened 18 years ago. We have been frequent and happy customers all those years. It is a special place with amazing Thai food. We are moving out the the area, and Sweet Basil is one of the places we will miss the most! Thanks for being a big part of our lives!
Stopped in late on a Friday night while visiting Greenville. We were seated quickly and our server was top notch. We started with Spring Rolls which were really good. For our entrees, we ordered Thai Sweet and Sour Chicken along with Pad Thai Chicken. Everything came out quickly and tasted great. Portions were also very large. Would highly recommend Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine as this was some of the best thai food we have had in a long time!
Food was good but would have been better if they got our order right. I said no mushrooms or baby carrots and my meal had both. When I spend $15 on lunch, my order should be right. It even said it on the container but I guess the cooks don't read the lid on the box.
10/10 excellent atmosphere and food
We had a great time here tonight and the owners were great hosts! The food was awesome and highly recommended!
Love the food and service. Especially dumplings
Food was delicious even though they brought me an entree I didn't order (I ordered shrimp Amanda and they brought me chicken Amanda; I ate it anyway) and we were rushed to pay before they closed. Our fault since we didn't arrive until 40 minutes before closing.
Best food
Good food, large portions.
Fantastic place.
17 years on the same spot, family owned with awesome food and culture.
Great food. Fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back. I already have my next two meals selected!
Ordered Panang curry, pad Thai, and chicken satay. Meat was rubbery and did not taste good.
Quality has gone down. Even though we brought it to the attention of the manager, nothing was done. We paid for dishes we did not eat. We will not go back there.
Extremely friendly service and a good menu. I'm used to a broader Thai menu, but the selection was certainly good. I asked for mild spice and it didn't have any spice. Other than that, it was a great experience and we will certainly be back!
Great Thai food in Greenville area!
My husband and I have been going to Sweet Basil for 5 years. It is a family establishment and youβll be treated like family. The owners, Chin and Apple, are very good people with a passion for amazing Thai food. Their menu ranges from the more basic Thai food (pad Thai) to the more complex (pad kra paw basil Thai style). They have the best green tea in South Carolina.
Food was hot and delicious
I took the family & friends, 7 of us, on a Friday night and had great food in a great atmosphere. This is a classy looking place. Food is very fresh and ample food portions with most of the ladies taking home leftovers for another meal. I had the Thai fried rice with chicken and loved it. You get to choose how much "heat" you want added for those liking a spicier flavor. We had the appetizers: Satay chicken with peanut sauce and fried Calimari with Thai chili sauce and both were excellent. This place even has draft Sapporo & Kirin Ichiban beer on tap (OK, they are Japanese beers but you can also have Singha Thai beer in bottles; all go great with Thai food). Full bar with a couple of TV's for the sports fans. I can't emphasize enough of the high quality and freshness of the food, if you haven't tried Sweet Basil, you are missing out!
Absolutely loved the garlic and pepper stir fry as well as the Siam fried rice.
I love Sweet Basil! What a great restaurant to congregate with friends and the owners welcome you, interact and make you feel like you have known them for years!
Got food poisoning
Consistently great authentic food. Consistent good service. Medium is above average spicy.
Food was delicious!!
We love everyone there!
We have dined here every few months when we are in the area, and love the pad thai. Today was a huge disappointment, and we are left wondering what changed...ownership or chefs. The spring rolls were undercooked and doughy. The pad thai noodles were over cooked and mushy, the chicken was tough, and the "medium" heat wasn't even mild. We will try again in a month or so. Sincerely hope today's experience is just a one-off.
I have not been here in a few years and the last times I thought the quality of food and especially service did not justify coming back.
I must say the food and service was very good and I enjoyed my girls night here, although the prices I find still pretty steep and therefore would not come back here on a regular basis - maybe for another special occasion though
Iβm addicted to their Pad Thai. Itβs my pay day treat! They are closed in between lunch and dinner so check the hours but itβs a great place!
If you like Thai, it's a good place to go. I didn't want to have rice with my main course and asked if I could get a portion of broccoli instead but they don't do substitutions. The food then came without the rice and I got the broccoli but they charged me $5 extra for it as a side. Overall, the food was good.
Over priced!!! I would understand to charge me almost $20 for a bowl of soup that was filled with food and flavor but what y'all gave me was 90% water 1 % veggie and 8 % chicken all UNFLAVORED and pale colored! Literally disgusting, food trashed & money gone. Will ever EVER be back & will let everyone know NOT to come here. Get off your high horse.
I highly recommend the shrimp avocado dish. Yum!
Really enjoyed spicy basil, nassamsn curry, steamed dumplings. Good beer.
Never disappointed. Great food and service.
So many great reviews. Ordered take out - Pelham Rd location. Sweet Basil Catfish. So Disappointed- It was so Fishy - almost to the point of spoiled. I should have gone back and returned it. The rest of the order was ok - Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup- But prices so expensive $$$. Got to be a better local Thai option.
Every substitution or extra is an UPCHARGE (Nickel & Dime restaurant people). Asked for brown rice instead of white rice for both of our meals, it's $9 upcharge each, total $18! RIDICULOUS! Asked for an extra "small" dipping sauce for spring rolls, it's a $0.99 upcharge. RIDICULOUS! The Amanda Shrimp was awful. Fried Shrimp was so curled-up and soggy from laying in the liquid you couldn't pick it up and they were tough to eat. The vegetables were not that flavorful. Just an AWFUL meal for me.
Best curry in town
Both dishes were ordered as βThai hotβ and were not spicy at all. The food was fine regardless. Main complaint would be how sweet everything was.
The Worse Experience
My friends and I had reservations and we arrived only 5 minutes late. They were already giving away our table to a walk-in customer. So we ordered drinks and an appetizer and felt like they wanted us to rush to order our main meal and when we started to eat they continued to harass us throughout our meal. Most of the harassment was from the owner/manager. This is our 2nd time I've had a bad experience. I like the food but because of the lack of respect....twice, I will never eat here again! It won't happen to me a third time....I promise you that.
Appetizers were good, however the beef curry was a different story, I order a beef curry soup, and instead got a plate with vegetables in a carrot soup. Maybe I'm expecting a lot since I been to California and New York where they do have authentic Thai food.
Always love coming here especially for lunch because they really accommodate us and get the food out in a timely manner without sacrificing the quality.
Great ambience and food selection. The owners and staff were very welcoming. We enjoyed our meals!
Always great.
Amazing food the curry was very satisfying
Excellent service from the time we walked in until we left. The owner even took a picture with us. The food was absolutely delicious, Spicy Thai Delight!! Spring Rolls, Mules, Thai Tea and Apple Saki, Pad Thai, and Green Tea shots. Green Curry, Yellow Curry, Cashew Nut!! π
Thanks to Chen and Martina!
We will definitely be back and we highly recommend this place.
First time here and it is amazing. We will be regulars for sure.
Best Thai food in the upstate!

Excellent food and great service. Very nice atmosphere, too.
Great on everything π 100 %
Food and service was terrific. Medium spice was just that medium. Flavor was full and seafood was not over cooked.
Great food. Never had a bad thai dish. Oddly enough a friend of mine brought his kids to dinner and they had chicken fingers. The chicken fingers were incredible as well.
Quick Service, Value Priced, Extremely Tasty, Excellent heat level
We love the ginger fried rice beef dish and pad thai with spring rools. Definitely recommend.
Honestly if I could leave less than 1 star I wouldβ¦There are many words to describe the experience, however none are pleasant. I planned to dine at this restaurant just yesterday with some friends and my service dog which I am training for a veteran with PTSD (She is fully trained to sit quietly under a table), yet as soon as we entered we were pushed back outside to an unofficial outside dinning area the owner created last minute, which happened to be on the sidewalk in front of the building. Now I enjoy a good outside dining experience just as much as the next person but I enjoy it even more so when it is by choice as well as an everyday option. The owner of this establishment did not give us the choice simply because I had my service dog with me. He repeatedly questioned my friends about my disability and then demanded to see my dogs ID (Neither of these things are legal in South Carolina). According to the owner I was too young for a service dog plus I was neither blind nor in a wheelchair. I found the entire experience utterly disgusting so my friends and I decided rather than spend our money at such an establishment we would just leave and find somewhere better. We proceeded to walk to our cars and the owner came out of the restaurant asking us why we were leaving. We told him respectfully that we would rather take our business elsewhere to which he began following us to our cars and telling us he didnβt want people with such bad attitudes eating at his restaurant anyways. He then took pictures of our license plates for whatever reason he deemed fit and proceeded to walk back inside. Overall, the experience was horrible and I definitely wonβt ever eat here. Iβm simply glad that I myself am just a service dog trainer/raiser and not someone who has an unseen but very real disability, because I can only imagine the type of anxiety and stress this situation would cause. The ADA specifically says that all service animals in SC are allowed to accompany their handler in any public establishment as long as the dog is well trained and controlled (which my dog is) yet the owner of this establishment directly discriminated against me and my dog because he was unable to see a physical disability π.
**I have included a picture of what my dog is trained to do in the restaurant setting and she would have done the same thing at this establishment had we been allowed inside**
