This was the worst experience that I have had in a very long time. It was my daughter’s 18 Birthday celebration and her Pad Thai came out so small, that a kid’s meal from McDonald’s has more, my Red Curry Duck was not done, and my wife’s fish had a real funky fishy taste, and the sad part is, we have frequented this establishment since they first began and this is so sad! The last meal out of the kitchen is just as important as the first! Unfortunately, I will not be a returning customer from this experience and if I were you and considering this establishment I would be ware!!!

Stuffed shrimp no flavor. Dipping sauce ok. Pad Thai was disappointing. Very sweet over sauced. Not what I'm used to.

Diner Review №5

The food was tasty and we received it quickly because we ate around 1:30pm so it wasn’t packed. I though the spice rack was cool also.

Disappointing Experience at Thai Basil - Columbia, SC

I’m genuinely disappointed after today’s visit to Thai Basil. My partner and I tried to enjoy a quiet lunch, but our experience was disrupted by constant deliveries coming through the back door—right through the restaurant. It was freezing outside (around 30°), and instead of focusing on the comfort of their customers, the restaurant seemed more concerned about the deliveries.

The temperature inside was uncomfortable, and we couldn’t help but feel like we were an afterthought. To make matters worse, the staff seemed uninterested in addressing our concerns. The tall male waiter was particularly rude and condescending, making the entire experience worse. His attitude completely soured what should have been an enjoyable meal.

It’s a shame, because we’ve enjoyed Thai Basil in the past, but after this encounter, I’m unlikely to return. Service and comfort should always come first, and unfortunately, that wasn’t the case today.

This review outlines your frustrations in a clear and professional manner, providing constructive feedback while expressing your dissatisfaction.

The manager Katie was very pleasant and inviting. She was very knowledgeable on what to get. Food was delicious, very top tier. The mango mezcal margarita was very bold but it was good. First time and it want be my last.

Diner Review №11

We were overlooked, as we sat at a table recognized but unrecognized for over 10 minutes after being seated.
No one came to the table or said anything, waitresses looking directly at us,
passing over us, walking around, cleaning tables, moving about, talking to each other about us! Very unprofessional, Impolite, and Rude!

I had to ask them is anyone going serve us, anyone working this area ! Or not?

Note we were at a table in the middle of the room/ restaurant! The resurant was not busy! Not even a hello, we will be with you shortly? Nothing!

After we confronted them about being served and watching them overlooking us!

They said they were confused as to whose table it was?

What an excuse to come up with!

Even the persons at the front who seated us was looking /observing and did not come
back to table or anything to us or to the waitresses.

We told them just how we felt and we left the restaurant! We will not be returning!

$42 for two lunches with water. And then they ask for 25% tip? Sorry, but for the average food and small portions they serve, they have priced themselves out of my business.

Diner Review №14

I had the egg rolls and friend rice. Which all was superb. The atmosphere and customer service, along with the price, was great.

Diner Review №15

We were just trying to have a nice family dinner. Our server never once greeted our table, smiled, checked on us, or anything. She rolled her eyes, and had an attitude when we asked for anything. She simply didn’t want to serve us for whatever reason. If you’re going to work in customer service, then why be rude? I informed the manager about our experience, but she didn’t seem to care. Just remember it cost nothing to be kind! We will not return to this establishment anymore!

Diner Review №16

I recently visited Thai Basil with my family hoping for a pleasant dining experience, but unfortunately, it fell far short of our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was lacking. The server greeted us with an unfriendly attitude that immediately set a negative tone for the evening. It felt as if our presence was an inconvenience rather than a welcome.

The manager was no better; she seemed annoyed when we informed her of the server’s attitude and how she made us feel rushed throughout our meal. There was a distinct lack of professionalism and courtesy that made us uncomfortable. Instead of enjoying our time, we felt like we were intruding on their time.

The food, while decent, couldn’t make up for the poor service. It’s disappointing to see how the attitude of the staff can ruin what could have been a nice evening out. I won’t be returning to Thai Basil anytime soon, as there are plenty of other places that value their customers and understand the importance of polite service.

Diner Review №17

I love coming here, and the people have always been kind to me. Though recently new management has said that egg cannot be removed from the dishes I get. So now this restaurant is not accommodating to those on a plant diet.

Unfortunate

Diner Review №18

The food is 10/10!! So fresh and flavorful! The Pad Thai, egg rolls, and wonton soup are my favs so far!! The dessert menu is also amazing. Basil might be my new favorite place in Columbia. Go if you haven’t!!

Diner Review №20

Came in for dinner alone. Was offered a place at the bar even though restaurant was wide open. I asked for a table and was given one off to the side that seats 2. This apparently pissed the server off who after taking my order completely ignored me. The table right next to me gets their water refilled twice by her. Me 0. She took my order and only came back to give me the check. No problem, I got the message and won't be back.

Diner Review №21

My wife and I love Basil Thai!
We lived in Asia for 7-years and spent a lot of time in Thailand. Basil Thai is our go to place for Thai in and around Columbia.

It is a great date night location.

The Spring Rolls are fantastic.
They serve wonderful Curry dishes as well as a great Pad Tai and Tom Yum Gai.

I recommend calling ahead to book a table, but you won’t regret the decision to try Basil Thai!

Diner Review №22

Let’s keep it short and simple since there’s way too much on my mind that I have to say. Bar service is the worst and she clearly doesn’t know what she’s doing. Train your bartenders please!!!

Diner Review №23

I went here hearing a lot about Thai basil restaurant food. Ambience was really nice which made our hopes high. We ordered Green curry and Fried rice, apart from service and ambience food was blah, and we paid $20 for each plate which was totally unfair to the taste. Comparing with my past experience with other Thai restaurants its unreasonably costly.

Phenomenal dinner! Chicken Ginger soup appetizer was great; both chicken and beef entrees were good quality meat sliced thin with spicy entrees; love Basil in Cola and CHS.

Diner Review №27

The food is always delicious, and we always receive excellent service.

Diner Review №28

Food was nasty and owner was rude

Diner Review №29

Great food! Good set of selections!

Diner Review №30

Great food and atmosphere. I like that it feels nice without being outrageously expensive. It was clear they take pride in the food and experience they offer and were doing their best to take care of us. The server was attentive and very helpful, and the owner was friendly. He was the one to seat us and checked on us mid-way through our meal. We got pad Thai and green curry. Both were excellent!

The best Thai food you'll get in this town. I just wish there were more interesting, traditional options.

Diner Review №41

Diner Review №47

Diner Review №48

good food but portions are small and expensive

Diner Review №49

The waitress, Devon, at Basil Thai of Columbia spills the BROTH out of my niece's soup. We asked for a refill of the broth. She & the manager, Troy, refused to refill the broth leaving my neice with a bunch of noodles. Rudely, the manager said "This is our most expensive soup. We don't have broth to give away!" Obviously, I didn't care how much it cost because I ordered it. That's not the point. Then, he said if I wanted more broth, I needed to purchase another one. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard!
The broth was very important to my niece because she has a medical condition & cannot eat solid food. She only can drink liquids. This was told to the waitress when my niece ordered the soup. She wanted the soup primarily for the BROTH. Then the waitress spilled it. Leaving my niece with nothing to eat because the waitress & manager refused to refill what the waitress spilled. The waitress needs to pay for the lost, not us!

Explain to me how you're giving away BROTH that I paid for, but YOU spilled & it's my fault?!!! How expensive is BROTH? Not the ingredients in the soup, but BROTH!!

Diner Review №50

Totally disappointed in this! $18.00 and this is the amount they give you for take out? Vegetable Medley and it wasn't enough to feed someone on a hunger strike. This is down-right disrespectful at all levels. It doesn't matter if the food was good or not, for $18.00, there should have been AT LEAST twice as much. I DON'T recommend you get to-go orders unless you check it before you go. The food is more fresh if you eat in than take home. I had duck that i took to go also and it was tough as a hockey puck....I've been to this restaurant many times before and I have always spent more than $65.00 and it seems that each time I went, I get less impressed. Well, this was the last time.

Diner Review №51

Diner Review №52

Terrible service and order fulfillment. Ordered $60 of food on line for delivery. Didn't receive the over priced egg rolls. Restaurant management said there was nothing they could do unless I wanted to pick them up myself or call Chow Now. Chow Now said all they can do is offer me a refund in about a week. I'm not one to complain but this is ridiculous. The restaraunt made and bagged the food and took my money. They couldn't even tell me if the missing items were at the restaraunt or in the driver's car. Boo!

Diner Review №53

Best Pad Thai in SC!

Diner Review №54

$50 dollars for 2 chicken and rice dinners with no drinks. I couldn’t believe it! They robbed me this time but never again.

Diner Review №55

Excellent Thai food dishes are offered here. Whenever we are in the town, Basil is our first place to eat. Great staff and ambiance.

Diner Review №57

The Cashew Chicken is amazing!! Getting it again on the way home!!

Diner Review №58

I ordered a beef salad that took 45 minutes to come out and it smelled awful from a foot away. Also, the lettuce was old (probably the cause of the smell)

Diner Review №59

Diner Review №60

I would rate Duke's Thai above Basil Thai but the atmosphere is better at Basil Thai. Appetizers were good (chicken and beef kebabs as well as shrimp spring rolls). Volcano shrimp was decent. Pad Kee Mow was honestly a little disappointing, rather bland.

Diner Review №61

Diner Review №62

Diner Review №63

We LOVE Basil! We get take out several night a week! The food is consistently delicious! The staff is always professional and friendly!

Diner Review №64

Diner Review №65

Food was good, portion was not great. Atmosphere is ok& the hostess didn’t care that we moved our tables together so we could sit together on the booth side

Diner Review №66

Don’t order the chicken green curry. Very bland no flavor and for the price you don’t get much.

Diner Review №67

Ordered dinner through Door Dash while traveling through Columbia. We love Thai food but this was a disappointment. Basil with tofu and egg rolls tasted like fish. Tofu mushy. Small portions. Very little vegetables included. Expensive.

Diner Review №68

Diner Review №69

Diner Review №70

Diner Review №71

This was my first time visiting Basil and I wasn’t disappointed! The ambiance was inviting and the servers were pleasant. I will definitely visit again to try some other dishes. The basil rolls were nice, I did ask for a sweet and sour sauce as the original sauce was too hot for my taste buds 😁The duck pho was delicious 😋 I would probably omit noodles next go around just for personal preference. The vegetable delight with chicken (optional) was cooked to perfection!

Diner Review №72

First time for Everything and I will be returning. The atmosphere was awesome its private and intimate. The wait staff was Awesome and very knowledegable. The food was mouth watering and my friends food looked even better. I WILL be returning.

Diner Review №74

I ordered the sweet and sour chicken.
An appropriate serving was provided.

Diner Review №75

I am writing this review right outside of the restaurant. I ordered something, three simple things, ordered it 30 minutes before I got to the restaurant. I get there and they say it's not ready, no big deal. I wait and I'll wait and I'll wait for another 30 minutes and then another 15 minutes. I then asked them could they please check on it because I've been waiting for a long time, mind you I'm holding my 1-year-old because it's only the pad thai they're waiting for, and it's behind them waiting. Now, I was very observant, multiple people who came in after me, they made sure that they took care of that person and scored the bill away ahead of time and everything, not one person spoke to me. They just ignored me and the woman who had my order, she didn't check at all I had to go to her to tell her that I've been waiting a long time, and then she goes to the kitchen and check and it's been behind her. I am a firm believer spending my money at places that deserve it. I do not believe spending my money in places that treat you like trash, and I would rather drive to West Columbia or Lexington then to ever come back to this establishment again because I was absolutely shameful, and I will not go where I'm not wanted. You do good, I will spend money there relentlessly. But to be treated in that way, I'll never buy from there again, and our agency, we will never ever try to book that place for our staff events.

Diner Review №76

Great food. Curry is amazing! Highly recommended!

Diner Review №77

The food and service was excellent here.
I stopped in for dinner. It was delicious 😋
From the seating down to have dinner to the waitress, the server, and the exit so very highly awesome.

Diner Review №78

Can’t give the the most helpful review here only trying the Pad Tai, but it was good and I enjoyed the service and atmosphere. $16 for a medium size portion. Three beers on tap - two are craft, one local and another from Charleston. Would have liked to see more beer choices but they have a full bar.

Diner Review №79

The restaurant was nice and clean, and the staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best.

THE FOOD IS HORRIBLE
They really need to learn how to cook Thai food.
I truly regret wasting my money here n will never come back.

Diner Review №83

Diner Review №88

Unique Thai place that has more than just the usual fair, as evidenced by the Barramundi and Shrimp dish I enjoyed last night. Good atmosphere, varied menu (obviously within a theme), and nice bar.

Diner Review №89

The Crispy Red Curry Duck dish was amazing! Highly recommend if you’re trying to figure out what your meal of choice should be. Also, the fried wontons (pictured) are phenomenal!!! Hands down the best ever!!

Diner Review №94

The only thing I ordered was shrimp summer rolls . I have had many summer rolls and t these are by far the worse I’ve had. First of all they are. It fresh and this place would not make adjustments. I am not sure if this is authentic Asian food but I doubt it. I will not visit here ever again . I know what a summer roll should taste like.

Diner Review №95

Extremely overpriced for the food to be as bland as it is.

Diner Review №96

Diner Review №97

This was my first time trying Thai food in South Carolina. Amazing atmosphere and food delicious. Stacey my server was very professional and knowledgeable of menu and her selection I ordered Pad Thai chicken and shrimp. I will be back

Diner Review №98

Ordered pad see ew and the noodles were dry and all clumped together. All noodles and very few of any other ingredients. Also ordered a Massamam Curry which also had very few vegetables with a very sweet curry. Very disappointed for the price.

Diner Review №99

I come here a lot and tip very well. We wanted to be regulars. But there are random times where I've been greatly disappointed. The wait staff is very kind and professional but something is definitely happening in the kitchen that is causing a disgusting turn in quality. I ate an entree that tasted perfect until I got to a bite that truly, literally tasted rancid enough that I vomited into my napkin. A few times before my meal has tasted off and I either just powered through or didn't take it to go. This is the first time I've had to throw up. I could not eat another bite and had to just leave.

Also note that almost all of their seafood options are overpriced for such small portions lacking flavor. They have a shrimp dish that is basically 5 prawns and some sauce for $30. The other entrees are usually good and most of the appetizers are great. I just with I did not have the experience I did because I'm not sure I'll be back.

Diner Review №100

It should frankly be criminal to call what I was served Thai food. Thai is my favorite. I could quite honestly eat it every day and never get tired of it. I ordered the pad kee mao, or more commonly drunken noodle, and even as I was ordering I knew it was going to be less than authentic and probably not amazing. I asked our server what level of hot they make it since I generally like it a touch spicer than the average American. Her response was that they didn't alter spice in the kitchen but there was a jar of spice on the table you could sprinkle to make it hotter. It was this moment I knew I should've noped out. The appetizer came first. It did not contain fish, but tasted exactly like fish. My food came shortly after. What was placed in front of me was nothing like I've ever seen. Why are there egg noodles? This isn't Stroganoff! I paid $80 for lunch. That wasn't for for human consumption if I'm being honest. We got burgers before heading to our movie. Never again. How does this place have great reviews? It should be criminal to label this as Thai food. Basil Thai, you should be ashamed. Your sister location does it right. You've got it all wrong.

Diner Review №101

We decided to stay home and chill and placed a Curbside Pickup Order Friday night. We ordered the Appetizer Thai Chicken Wings for $12, Fried Rice $19 and Shrimp Fried Rice $21 with onions, scallions, carrots and green peas and egg. The meal was ok. Nothing special at all. Actually kind of bland after smelling so delicious in the car. We will go back, however we will dine in. Just to give another try.

Diner Review №102

Tonight we celebrated my birthday. Basil Thai is always a good time. The food was good and cooked well. My daughter's food came out with a hair in it. They remade it and didn't charge for it. And also gave my kids a dessert on the house! Great service.
We were seated at the very back of the restaurant, by the emergency exit door. I noticef the door needed a deep cleaning and the light fixture above us also needed to be cleaned.

Diner Review №103

Diner Review №104

2nd visit, I personally love the food. My family agrees this will be a regular place to visit.

Diner Review №105

Had dinner with girlfriend to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was very disappointed with my dish, Basil Barramundi. The sea bass fish was cooked too long, hard and the liquid base was watery. My girlfriend had the chicken coconut soup. She didn't like it. We asked the server what was in it. She asked the chief and he was not able to assist. The dinning room was clean and nice venue to meet up.

Diner Review №106

I loved the Beef Stir Fry Noodles and the Beef salad and the Lychee Martinis are delicious. I also loved their chicken fried wontons yum! Service is good and the wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a bit pricey but the food is worth it.

Diner Review №107

1st time eating here! I was very pleased! Our food was excellent! Pictured sweet and sour chicken! It was fresh, hot when served and full of flavor! Very clean, beautiful inside, staff is very nice and all working to serve customers.
I will dine here again.
Ate here again for the 5th time! Very consistent and very good to me. Appeals to my taste buds!

Diner Review №108

Been here a few times. While we feel the food is good, we have had better for less money elsewhere.... And the service is not good. The staff spends more time chatting and staring at their phones than they do waiting on customers. It seems there's very little management.

Diner Review №109

First time visiting this restaurant. Our food was so delicious and fresh. Restaurant was cleaned and great service.

Diner Review №111

I went here yesterday. I really enjoyed my food. The atmosphere was nice and a vibe. I wanted to sit outside but the person i was with didn’t so i sat inside. I ordered the egg rolls as a appetizer and for my entree i ordered vegetable fried rice with chicken . The egg rolls were so good. To the point that i ordered 2 more. They were fresh and paired with duck sauce. I highly recommend. The vegetable fried rice was good as-well it came with carrots, onions, scallions, mushrooms, broccoli ,egg and tomatoes. It was fresh as-well . The waiter was nice as-well. I can’t wait to go back and try another dish. I definitely will return

Diner Review №113

The food was delicious. I had been wanting to visit for a while and was pretty excited to finally stop by. Everything tasted great. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere.

Diner Review №114

Diner Review №115

This is by far the WORST Thai food I have ever had. The food lacks flavor and is not authentic. Rice was super dry and not moist/soft. I would not recommend eating here. I ordered the sweet and sour and it was nasty.

Diner Review №116

Bday celebration so went here for din din. It's been a while since we been, forgot how yummmm their food was!! We just returned from Thailand a few mths before so the hubster is still feigning for their cuisine 🙃😉. Did get reservations, was a Friday night. Pretty busy. Our two servers were friendly although had a lil mix up w/ ordering so much that we didn't even finish our apps that the entrées were out. Kinda frustrating but we made it work. Lots of good food though and didn't make it go to waste - doggy bags!!! Will defitively return. And there are a few other locations in CLT and CHS, my 2 favorite cities!!!

Diner Review №117

Service was TERRIBLE. We sat in the bar area and the bartender was our waiter. We sat for a while and I finally had to get up and order our drinks from the bar because he was too busy cleaning the bar. After we ordered drinks (one cocktail and a water) I had to get his attention again to order an appetizer. We had finished our appetizer and my cocktail and yet again I had to get up, walk to the bar and tell him we were ready to order. Now, I am not unreasonable about service but my husband and I were literally the ONLY table in the bar area and there was not a soul sitting at the bar. When our food finally did come, it was decent but nothing to write home about. Will not be visiting this establishment again, very disappointed.

Diner Review №118

Was literally the worst Thai I have ever had. The Pad Thai was like Ramon from an instant pack. The shrimp smelled fishy. The fried wontons had some unidentified filling that smelled like fish. This was a $65 to go order. Save your money. The only plus was the dipping sauce for the soggy egg rolls.

Diner Review №119

Third time eating here. Twice take out and once sit down. Food okay but over priced for what it is. Service is hit or miss and they seem really disorganized. Especially take out. A disaster. Make sure you check your order before leaving. The staff could care less. Compared to Keo Thai for a sit down experience and Lotus Thai for take out, Basil would be dead in the water save its location.

Diner Review №120

Very good, however, ordered an eggplant dish, that only had 2 pieces of eggplant...so that was weird. Lots of green peppers, could have been more spicy and flavorful. Hubby loved his dish, and was a first time thai eater. Overall great experience, will be back.

Diner Review №121

The best Thai Food in Cola. Get the Masaman Curry.

Diner Review №122

Diner Review №123

I've only tried a few things from there. My favorite is the steak salad. Nice sit down restaurant. It is a little pricey. However, you're able to "customize" your order.

Diner Review №124

The quality of the food has gone completely down but the price has gone up I ordered the shrimp fried rice add chicken it had little to no flavor which is disappointing being that I detour every time to get my food at least 50 miles and I always order 2 this time it was 50 dollars which twice what I normally pay

Diner Review №125

Enjoyed the experience even though it was on my lunch break.

Diner Review №126

One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Columbia. Although it's expensive and always packed on the weekend, the green curry is absolutely phenomenal and delicious, and the portion sizes are generous. When they say Thai hot, they mean it!.

Diner Review №127

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had....and I haven't even tasted to he food yet...

Will update post-ngestion...

I love going to Basil. You feel instantly welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. Everything is always very clean. The pineapple Mojito is the best in town. I always get the red curry, which is delicious with just enough spice. The basil rolls are amazing. To top it off, their chocolate cake with coconut ice cream is delicious.

Diner Review №131

I used to really love this place but recently got food poisoning here!! I am vegetarian and suspect they cooked vegetarian pad thai w the meat?? Really disappointing especially considering I spent over $30 for dinner entree and no Thai iced tea was available

Diner Review №132

Super nice spot for Thai. Staff was good and the setting was very pleasing.

Diner Review №133

The food was already great but today it seemed even better!!!

Diner Review №134

Great place to eat

Diner Review №135

The Basil Duck was absolutely amazing - couldn’t stop eating it - I couldn’t stop quacking about it while we were there, I fell into the webbing of the flavor and my pallet was swimming in the sauce - the bill was good - I flew south on waves of deliciousness - this Mallard was well pleased!!

Diner Review №136

Ive been here 10+ times over the past few years and typically order the masaman curry.

While generally good, i feel like the spice level varies widely. Sometimes I will order it “hot” and it will be bland, other times ill order it “medium” and it will feel like my tongue is about to melt off from the spice. I’m not sure why its so inconsistent. Don’t offer the option to adjust the spice level if its going to be so wildly different between visits.

The service is generally fine: efficient and kind staff.

The food is overpriced for the quality. Yes, food supply has increased in price over the last few years, but not enough to justify the steep increase in menu price seen here. $20 for one curry (which is inconsistently spiced) is crazy. I assume they charge so much because they no longer have any competition for thai food in the area. It tastes good, but not $20.

Used to be better before covid. I think I will stop going and look for thai food somewhere else.

Diner Review №137

I just got a bowl of coconut soup and 2 egg rolls. I wanted Jasmin tea but was told they were all out of hot tea. I have not been here in nearly 2 years and used to get a full bowl of soup but now the bowl arrives only half full. The bill was over $23.00 for soup, egg roll and water. The food and service was good but these prices combined with shrinking portions are just over the line for me. I can drive to Mai Thai West Columbia and get a large soup, 2 egg rolls and hot Jasmin tea for $20.00 including tip.

Diner Review №138

Diner Review №139

Good food. Some of the staff make you feel a little uncomfortable

Diner Review №140

The food was delicious, everything was delicious. However for me personally the price wasn’t worth the portions at all, 20+ dollars for some small bowl of curry like that of a kids meal, I should of done some research first. If you want to save money check a different spot.

Diner Review №141

When we first arrived we were greeted very warmly. We had reservations. It wasn’t very busy and we visited on Valentine’s Day. Upon retrieval of our reservations we were placed in a far corner of the restaurant, no window, no tv and not even a view of the musician. We were little disappointed after they attempted to place us in a corner of the restaurant within fairly close proximity of the next table. Seeing that it wasn’t that busy and other options for tables were available, we immediately started to feel like this wasn’t going to be a very good experience.

Moving on, they moved us to a much better location. The ambiance seemed good and the managers picked up our table after no server came to get us started. The managers were nice. We ordered 2 beverages and they were fine. We also ordered the fried wontons from the appetizer menu and that was good also. For our main course, I ordered the Pho Duck and my other half ordered the Pad Woo Sen. We were not overjoyed by the flavor of either dish. We’ve eaten Thai on several occasions and duck is my go to. The appetizer and the alcohol were good, but the food was sub par. The managers did manage to win us over with their fabulous customer service.
Upon leaving, however, we noticed the greeters handing out roses. Although the roses were not our concern, we were taken that they didn’t even offer us one and we made reservations. This is a place we will not be revisiting. Great customer service, but the food was a little questionable. We gave them 3 stars for customer service.

Diner Review №142

My experience at this restaurant was horrible the waiter was great but the food was horrible and the afternoon sup was even worse . The food had zero seasoning and the afternoon supervisor was even worse. When I told him the food was not good he never apologized or tried to make it right. He seemed offended that I said that it wasn’t good the beef salad is what I had and the meat had no seasoning and it was over cooked the meal didn’t make sense. When I go to a restaurant that I have never been I general get 3 to 4 appetizers and entrees to taste so I will know which one to get in the future. I really do love Thai food but I hate bad Thai food and it was bad I got the coconut soap and the broth was delicious but the chicken in it was extremely dry and under seasoned but edible. I would never re visit and going to tell everyone I know about the poor service and food. I was left underwhelmed. The supervisor needs to learn customer service and how to handle customers and not have a I don’t. Care attitude. The score I give to this restaurant is zero and I will post this on other social media sites as well and let all my coworkers come Monday how bad this was. I will see if anyone cares about this restaurant based off how you guys respond to my review and if you care to fix this review. I went back today and Thai basil reached out to me and I came back and tried them again. Brain helped me ensured I had a good food experience and customer service experience. And let me tell you he was amazing and the food was amazing. I would definitely come back again and I’m going to tell everyone I know about the great food and service there. The food was so flavorful . I can pronounce the name of the type of curry I had but it was amazing. I actually plan to go back there this weekend with a few friends and I can’t wait

Diner Review №143

No wonder their rating is 4.3 ! Very unprofessional and unfriendly manager that keep guests waiting 30 minutes at door when they have 5 tables open in the dining room on Saturday night and there is no wait in front of us!

We decided to wait because we really want to see if they have 5 reservations coming in !

We saw he turned away a couple of nice guests by telling them there is an hour wait!

I wish the owner would know what kind of manager he hired to turn his business away!

This is my first time dining here and the atmosphere is great. It’s clean and the staff is professional and friendly. I ordered the shrimp barramundi and it was great. The Key Lime pie is amazing as well. I will definitely be back!

Green curry and Tom gah soup. So good…. Also if you like tea they will bring out a pot for your table - it’s really good

Basil is one of the best Thai restaurants around. Always delicious and always friendly!

My favorite pad thai!

Diner Review №153

Kendra is so pleasant! I always enjoy my time at Basil. Everyone is so personable and always timely. I have not had one bad experience at Basil. Hands down my favorite restaurant! Not for just the food but the people are great!!!

Diner Review №154

Excellent service and food! Wonderful from the appetizers to the dessert! Must visit for those who enjoy Thai food or who have never tried it!

Diner Review №155

It's definitely a fancy dinner kind of place. I can never really tell why I don't come here more often?

But I think it's maybe I could get better thai other places for cheaper.

This place is not for the food so much as it is for the super comfy environment and great service. I like it.

Oh yeah, and definitely nothing spicy here even if you ask for the maximum. You have to ask for the spice tray, and then you can load up the heat!

Diner Review №156

Best Thai in Columbia! This place has the perfect fusion of flavors! Everything is super fresh which I’ll be honest im picky about but rightfully so! Loved the service too, Maddy was our server , she was efficient and very tentative and was all smiles and good vibes! I think she said the owners and chef are Thai! We have long been searching for a place that has great fresh ingredients, bold flavors and to top it off, great service . It’s hard not to eat here multiple times per week…. The price may be a bit high but come on….. with inflation that’s undoubtedly the case and they gotta keep up their reputation and support their employees. I don’t mind the price as long as they keep doing what they’re doing. 😃

Diner Review №157

Decor and location are great but the food is very sub-par the two times we ate there. When we got takeout the food was terribly dry and it took an hour and a half to get. When we ate in the food was just okay, not great.

Diner Review №158

Excellent place to enjoy Thai food. Very cozy atmosphere, great service, and excellent food. Highly recommended.

Great service. Great food.

Diner Review №160

We go here a lot before and we love the food. But lalely the fried rice we ordered were not cook at all, so hard..Very dissapointed!!!

Diner Review №161

Fried rice was a little mushy in some areas and fried dumplings were tasteless, no flavor.

Diner Review №162

As someone that was in Thailand for almost 2 months, I have become very snobby about my Thai food. I have to say that one bite from the Pad Prik absolutely took me back to Tailand. Fantastic service and spot on food. This place is a must if you are looking for authentic Tai flavors.

Thai basil served a horrible terrible food I had never been eating at the restaurant. Even the instant noodles tasted a lot better than their food. We paid $350 for 7 peoples and all 7 of us just tasted a couple spoon and dumped in trash. We let them know and they don't even care about their customer. We don't care about the money or how expensive they charged but overall their food was really nasty not for human to eat. Even I gave this to my pets and I think they don' want it. You need to better closed out your restaurant so not to waste other people time and their happiness time with family.

Fantastic food and ambience; everytime I visit family in Columbia, we get the basil duck and green curry eggplant, highly recommend

Diner Review №172

Subpar Thai food. We had the Neua Nam Tok appetizer which was made too sweet for this dish but it was actually the best part of our meal. We ordered the Crispy Red Curry Duck that was rather chewy and there was very little curry - disappointing for a $33 plate. We also had the chicken/shrimp pad Thai that was average at best. The “Thai” in these dishes have been watered down - not very authentic. Small portions even for a Thai restaurant, overpriced, but the ambience was pleasant and the customer service was good.

Diner Review №176

Visiting from out of town and was looking for a place to get some pho. The inside was really nice and they seemed busy enough for a Friday night. The service was good and my server was great and very knowledgeable. I ordered two appetizers the spring roll and a vegetarian roll. They were OK. The sauces were very spicy, but still edible. With the spring rolls you couldn’t really tell there was shrimp in there. But not too bad. The pho which they called basil noodle soup was fantastic. It had shrimp and steak in it. The broth didn’t need any extra seasoning it was perfect on its own. But of course I still added some of the spices that they brought which took it to another level. For dessert I asked for the servers recommendation and went with the Keylime pie, which was a really good idea. It was delicious. Overall I would come back to this place. While eating I was observing the other customers and most everybody seem to be enjoying their food and most plates were going back empty.

Diner Review №177

I've eaten at Basil Thai several times over the last 5 or 6 years. I typically stop here on my way up to snowboard in Banner elk, or when travelling to Asheville. It's very convenient, we will stock up on groceries at whole foods, grab a few duck donuts, and get dinner on our way. Being a vegetarian, I typically order the tofu dishes. And while this restaurant was never excellent in terms of taste, over the years, the food has really gotten bad. The last time I went (September 2022) the food was inedible. My wife and I ordered our meals and beverages, our server was great. Our food arrived quickly. We started to eat and were both surprised at the terrible flavour, which was like eating a bowl of straight vinegar. We had a few more bites- to be certain, then paid our tab and left.

I love the food here and am a repeat customer at several of their restaurants from SC to NC locations, but the service last night sucked. I was lied to by the manager who told me their were reservations but there were 5-6 open tables two of which were not even cleaned yet. Please in the future be honest and let your customers know you are short handed.

Diner Review №185

Delicious, authentic Thai taste, Plenty of parking- small portions- specialty cocktails are pricey. Great ambiance.

Diner Review №186

The food was fairly mediocre. I had ginger chicken and the sauce was almost purely vinegar. Our waiter was very checked out. He never refilled water glasses, I asked for coke and was refilled with Diet Coke, and he never checked on us unless explicitly stopped.

Diner Review №187

This is some of the best pad Thai I've had. I will definitely order again when I'm in the area even though it was a little on the expensive side for what you get when ordering through DoorDash.

Diner Review №188

Not allergy friendly. You are unable to order any noodle dish on the menu without stir fried egg “because it compromises the integrity of the dish.” No exceptions for allergies. Extremely pretentious and it’s not even very good, we just always ordered it because it was nearby. Thankfully, this new rule led us to try Kao Thai, which was amazing, accommodating, and a lower price for better food.

Diner Review №189

The food was solid but there are far better Thai options in the area for a similar, if now lower price. Except for the wontons… best wontons I’ve ever had. However, the service was mixed. Our two appetizers came out AFTER our entrees because “the kitchen got confused”. Which was fine. Our waitress was nice, but a little overbearing. She kept coming to the table and reorganizing our dishes for us. After we finished eating, we sat for almost 45 minutes waiting for boxes and the check.

Diner Review №190

Food is excellent.

Diner Review №191

My partner and I dined here yesterday and our experience was very underwhelming compared to the experience we had at Thai Basil in Charlotte, NC.
Our chicken wings looked like they were cooked a few days ago, very dry. The Red shrimp curry not very flavorful, the shrimp was over cooked. The shrimp stir-fry veggies were over cooked as well and the tap water wasn’t drinkable we got bottled water.

Diner Review №193

Two months ago this place was buzzing with great service and food. Now new management, terrible service, terrible drinks and the restaurant could be much cleaner.

I asked to have my wife’s terrible drink remade. Instead of making a fresh and APPEALING drink, the manager added some basil to the same drink. When I asked about it his reply was, ‘you already drink some of it, we don’t give free drinks’. So since my wife drank some of this terrible tasting drink (how else was she supposed to know what it taste like?) he, the MANAGER, felt no need to replace it with a fresh drink (and apology).

His attitude about it was gross and indifferent and he clearly failed customer service 101 - take care of the customer because THAT is how your salary gets paid and offer great product, THAT is how you keep a customer returning to you.

A better restaurant got our money that night. We are still waiting to see if the owner will take responsibility.

Diner Review №194

Before the pandemic the service and food was wonderful. My last few visits (including today) has been horrible. I drove 25 minutes in the pouring rain today to satisfy my craving for some pad Thai. I placed an order and requested extra sauce. When I arrived to the restaurant I was greeted by a very unprofessional young lady by the name of Mya (I believe). When I received my order I express that I didn’t have the extra sauce (duck sauce/ chill garlic paste) that I had requested. The young lady stated that I had extra sauce in my food. While trying to explain that I wanted a side of extra sauce. The young disrespectful hostess decided to she wanted to fuss. Today will be my last day visiting. And from the past reviews I see that the service is going down. Do not visit this location

Diner Review №195

Delicious food...awesome variety and great service.
Sat outside...great atmosphere

Diner Review №196

First time patron. Probably one of the best, if not the best, Pad Thai I've ever had. Everything was delicious. Probably my least favorite would have been the green tea ice cream. I would have liked a slightly stronger matcha flavor but it wasn't bad. Service was great as well. Will definitely be going back.

Diner Review №197

I just had some fantastic Thai food today that I have been missing for a long time! The Tom Kha Gai (chicken coconut) soup was outstanding! Great flavors plus loads of mushrooms and chicken. The Pad Thai was excellent also. I added the thai garlic hot paste to spice it up and it was perfect. Not too hot but just right! I will be back again as they are open Thursday & Friday for lunch.

Basil Thai is an authentic Thai restaurant here in Columbia SC. I'm here visiting from Philadelphia & it reminds me of the delicious food from Nadias Thai back home.😋 Unfortunately Nadia's closed. I was elated to find Basil Thai. I've been a few times now & everytime is AMAZING❣️ My apologies for not providing photos, but the photos on their pg are real. The Thom Kha, masaman curry shrimp, pad Thai all of it was great. Treat yourself, friends, or romantic partner to Basil Thai, you won't be disappointed!✨️

Diner Review №200

The server was not professional, impatient and impolite. She mistook our order and made us pay more. When discussing the issue, she said, “you should pay what you ate”. She did not wait for us to finish the speaking of our concern. This is unprofessional and disrespectful. Truly bad experience.

The restaurant is not clean. There are some spider net around.
