Thai Me Up is a rusty cozy Thai restaurant in Southside Pittsburgh offering both traditional & modern Thai cuisine. We offer lunch specials, dining, takeout, and BYOB.
This was our favorite Thai spot when we lived in Pittsburgh so when visiting this week we had to stop back in- still great
Quick service, tasty food
It is relatively small inside (~10 tables) I feel like it was bigger last time we were here) there is a small market next to it.
Street parking
$6 BYOB corking fee
What we ate:
Pad Thai Tofu
Garlic Chicken
This is my first time to order a lunch takeout from this restaurant. When I got back to my new office, I found out that they did not provide any utensils inside the carry out bag, which was very inconvenient. The Thai style fried rice tasted okay and it seemed a little bit oily. Given that they offered a variety of foods, I may try it again in the future.
Excellent restaurant, great food, staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Its BYOB so feel free to bring a beverage or two and enjoy a great dinner. Food was so fresh and tasty. You can feel the love that goes into making these dishes. Spice level rated 1-10, I went with a 7 for my Sriracha Fried Rice and it was amazing!
Amazing food
The food is good BUT!!! every time I order 5 out of 5 spicy, it's never spicy??? My Pad Thai this time around tasted like sweet and sour sauce, so bizarre!
和朋友到Pittsburgh玩,看到这家评分不错就去了。说实话,报吃😭虽然工作人员很好……避雷

Enjoyed a great meal with friends here Saturday night! We were a group of 8 that got seated really quickly and all together! Everyone ordered a different meal and loved their choices. I had the crab rangoons and pad see ew ( S U noodles) and it was delicious. Love the atmosphere, food and staff!
Tried to hand me two cups of what seemed to be tap water while I was paying! RUDE DUDE
This was the first miss at Thai Me Up. The chicken in the curry was rubbery. The fried chicken was gummy. The fried shrimp was also mushy. Texture nightmare and still hungry after spending $90 for 3 adults. I’ll try again but with lower expectations.
We tried the spicy basil noodles and mussaman curry and both were pretty bad. The curry was flavorless and the noodles were soggy and had no flavor. I’d recommend saving your money and going elsewhere.
Just received my online order and it's gonna be a one off. It was crazy expensive ($50) for an appetizer & noodles. There are very few vegetables, and no herbs. I'm not sure why neither actually resemble the menu descriptions. Ugh. Also, if you deem something "spicy" it should have flavor.
Always a pleasure.
Amazing as always!
The seasonal pumpkin curry is the best!!!
Try the taro boba, you won’t regret it!!!!!
We absolutely love Thai Me Up! After we moved here from NYC we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to find great Thai food, but to our surprise and delight, this place is excellent and their food is delicious. The people are very friendly too and always make you feel welcome.
Loved it! Just didn’t know the BYOB cost 6 bucks
Great service. Delicious pumpkin curry!
The absolutely WORSE PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE EVER!!!! Not, sure where these ingredients came from... And we're thrown in a POT!!!!! And then, DELIVERED!!!!
Amazing food... "Try everything!"
Very kind staff members.
Lightning fast service.
Adorable atmosphere.
Love supporting local businesses I got takeout here recently and the way they packaged our food. Everything spilled lost about half the soup and we just ate it outside of the restaurant because the bag was just full of soup. When I was eating the vegetables, there were onion peels in the vegetables that were the exterior part of the onion. Unsatisfactory experience I’m sure maybe it was just an off night for them. Seems like a lot of other people have had good experiences here.
Super sweet people, good food, cozy environment
I absolutely love Thai me up! And have for years! Since they were located on Carson street. It’s literally my goto lunch spot. I’ll do pick up or dine in when i can. The atmosphere, food and service are always excellent.
Very good 👍
I regularly stop at Thai Me Up for takeout on my drive home from work. The portions are large and we always end up having good leftovers. I even had them cater my birthday treat for work last year.
It took a little bit for our order to be taken but once our food was ordered it came out pretty fast. They are a small establishmen; cute and very welcoming. Food was good as well. Lunch portion was perfect.

Wonderful staff and environment. Food was very tasty, sometimes I worry Asian food will be too salty but this did not have too much sodium
Classic good thai food
Don’t know what the high ratings are for.. perhaps due to not-expensive lunch specials.. food wasn’t horrible but it’s certainly nothing admirable but in fact rather plain.. we got there an hour before closing time and they were really slow and not very nice towards the end as we are about to leave. Even if you’re very busy, or customer stayed close to closing time, that’s no reason not to be nice to a paying customer
Well sized lunch portion, delicious, reasonable price
The place - I'm sure - is not bad, but the vegetarian options were rather sad; a lot of sauce and barely any vegetables and not very tasty - at least according to our own taste.
Great food
Great people, great food.
Do not go anywhere near closing time (1 hour) they will turn you away.
I ordered beef Lo-Mein and they brought me a plate that was 80% veggies. Overpriced for what they offer. Would never go back or recommend.
the lady who runs this place is so hardworking and lovely to interact with. excellent food and a pleasure to support
I don't know what happened to this place but our food was bad. It had very little flavor and it's like they didn't even try. My dish was what looked like a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store cut in half and served with nothing. Sadly this place used to be decent.
I had the Red Curry. It was fantastic.
I can't say enough good things about Thai Me Up. Every single thing I've ordered there is packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. Their red curry is amazing. I adore their lemongrass soup as well! Despite it being a smaller space they really make it feel nice, and it's always clean!
The food is high quality. It's a little more expensive but considering how good it is I'm happy to pay when I can afford it! ♡
Awesome!! Mussaman curry chicken was incredible. I could not get enough of it. Everything was fresh. I ordered #5 hear and was mild. I would do above a 5 if looking for a kick. Thai grilled chicken dish was cooked perfect and a lot of food.
Staff was very friendly food was amazing
The staff was so kind and the food was fresh. The lunch special reasonably priced and I suggest getting the bento box of any of the lunch specials. They come with a spring roll and crab ragoon. Everything is made in house which adds a great touch.
So crazy good it’s actually confusing. People throw around the term authentic very loosely when complimenting a restaurant, but the flavors here genuinely transported us to childhood memories elsewhere.
My first time ordering, if I’m being honest everything seems questionable. Ordering delivery from here was very easy and convenient, I never interacted directly with staff so I’m not sure how their customer service is.As a customer I should wonder why my food has a sour smell and taste. The red curry is definitely not red, the broth is especially runny. The white rice that came with the curry was hard, crunchy, so I’m assuming it’s not fresh, and had a funny smell. The steamed noodles has food debris in it with a funky smell as if they were steamed with week old water. The chicken noodle soup was the best part of the meal and was only $6, the noodles was fresh and the broth was very flavorful. I would get that again. Everything else was a no for me.
Perfection in a plate
The food here was absolutely amazing and the wait staff was so efficient and friendly. Will definitely eat here again!
My favorite Thai place. Consistently delicious, friendly and - fortunately for me, walking distance😎.
I love the regular menu but recommend always checking the specials of the week.
Very kind people!
Always great food. Byob. Reasonable prices. Fun atmosphere, great service. Nifty little market right next door.
Always love this place, food is phenomenal, crab rangoons, Thai chicken wings, chicken pineapple basil, chicken satay, the soups are amazing too. Pittsburgh staple for Thai food! The owners and workers are all fabulous people!! Thank you always!!
Expensive but quite tasty
Excellent food. Very authentic. Great service. Reasonable price. Very casual. Amazing menu.
Real nice place to Visit.
Love the casual and fun atmosphere and the food was out of this world for the price of the meal, cannot recommend this spot enough
Needed a Monday night dinner spot while in town for work and this was perfect. They had my favorite Green Papaya Salad that was perfectly tangy and spicy (even let me amp it up a bit more when I asked). Their spicy basil noodles were really good as well. Service was excellent and super kind. Will hopefully be back again.
We ordered takeout online a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. Super easy pick up and our order was perfect. We tried ordering online again today and the site wasn't working, so we called in the order; my partner is allergic to peanuts and I forgot to mention it in the call (usually write it in the order notes). They were extremely pleasant when I called back apologizing and letting them know about the nut allergy and they swapped the affected entree ASAP. Thank you so much Thai Me Up!!!
Great food. Great service. Parking was scarce. In town on business but would definitely go back. Authentic taste.
Had the spicy basil noodle dish. What a treat! Recommend this fine dining spot highly.
Great place for Thai in the South Side. Food was flavorful and a nice selection of Thai dishes. Temperature was on point from 1-10 spice level. Highly recommend.
Great place, the spicy ground chicken is spicy indeed. The taro sticky rice is great as well.
Second time we’ve been here. It’s delicious. Appetizers, entrees, and the bubble tea is just what I need when I order a 5 in spiciness! Somebody thank the chef! Whew! My husband ordered a five as well for his spicy stir fried rice and it was almost too hot. He took his home and the waiter asked if it was too hot for him? We said “yes” so they took his leftovers and added some not so spicy sauce to it for him. It’s the best in Burgh as far as we’re concerned.
Always great and friendly service. Had the green curry with chicken (spice level 2) and it was delicious.
I would give Thai Me Up a 3.5 but am rounding up to 4 because the Spicy Basil Noodles were excellent. The Red Curry on the other hand was almost inedible- the scent was weirdly pungent. We are Thai food fanatics and had never encountered something like this before. Even by Thai standards, the protein portions were small, particularly when you consider the pricing, which isn't inexpensive. We liked Thai Me Up back in the day and maybe it was just a one-off thing.
Great food and wonderful people!
Yum! Such excellent Thai. Service was quick, lots of great options in a nice Southside location.
Pretty good Thai food with decent lunch deals. The portions are a bit on the lighter side but still tasty none the less. The vibe is immaculate and the staff are super friendly. Love the attached market too!
I got the pho delivered to my house last night and it was a major disappointment. The chicken was really dry, and there were only a few tiny pieces of cilantro throughout the whole dish. The delivery was fast, but for the price, the food was not worth it. I have had other dishes that were better here though, like the red curry.
Great restaurant for take out and dine in. Service was fine and food was delicious. I'd suggest any of the chef suggestions on the menu (they are at the bottom of the menu). Beware, the spicy scale isn't messing around.
Great food and quick service, even when you order takeout. It's a solid spot
Great atmosphere, food, and service. BYOB is awesome too
Best Thai in town!
I've been here several times and not once had a bad experience. The service and food are always wonderful. Highly recommend!
I've only been once for takeout, but I would definitely go back. Friendly and fast servic, exactly the spice level I asked for, which almost never happens.
The meal was exactly what I was looking for.
Update: Took my elementary aged son out for lunch. He wasn't used to being around so many people (pandemic childhood). The waiter allowed us to sit in a corner where he would feel a bit removed and he had a great experience. He loved the food and had a great time shopping at the attached store.
We seem to stop in every time we swing through the area.
I am so happy with the staff, store, and food.
Update: This is my son's favorite restaurant with his favorite meal. We will continue to stop by whenever we are in town.
Super friendly service and great atmosphere. The pad Thai chicken was a little dry/cheap, but overall delicious! I’d never had Thai coffee before and it was definitely a very different coffee experience than American coffee, but I definitely enjoyed it. Overall a great experience!
Best Thai in the city. Everything from the food to the venue is a product of love.
Pad Thai and crab rangoons are the best that I’ve had in Pittsburgh.
Great food, great service, best Thai in southside!
Delicious food.
Made my hole burn for 17 hours
The food is good and the menu is pretty varied.
Dear thai me up
I just want to thank you for a wonderful dining experience. I stopped in last week with some friends and we had an excellent time. I had the Thai me up fries and soup and it was excellent. The service was great and we will definitely be back again. oh and I really enjoyed my tea and the bright orange tea pot. See you next time!
This place is awesome! The food is great with an excellent selection of traditional Thai dishes. Staff is very friendly. The actual place itself has a great decor.
Authentic Thai cuisine. With a name like this using an amusing play on words, I expected good food, but had no way to know ahead of time that they are serving such authentic dishes. The food was phenomenal. Even the standard Thai street food staple, Pad Thai, was prepared like it is in Thailand. Also loved the traditional Khao Krapao, also a typical Thai street food offering.
Fries! I'm in love with the fries. Going to be ordering them every time. Was surprised that the Z-U noodles didn't have any spice but still was an amazing pad see ew.
Hadn't eaten here in a while. Was not impressed but decided to give it another try. Food was a disappointment. Small, uninspired spring rolls; entrees nicely spiced but short on proteins (we tried chicken and shrimp). The adjoining Asian market is good and convenient to where we live, so we will return there.
Pumpkin curry was amazing, and it was a very cute spot!
Loved the food. That pumpkin curry was probably the best food I had on this trip.
I have never reviewed a restaurant, but had to review this. I have been enjoying Pad Thai for over 25 years, and until last night, I'd never found it to be anything other than delicious. The Pad Thai I "tried" to eat last night was literally NOT edible! It looked strange; the noodles weren't the typical Thai noodles, the sauce was runny without any flavor. Any! I simply could not eat it. How this restaurant received so many + reviews is beyond me. I felt terrible throwing it away. A waste on many levels.
Can I give - (negative)? We even didn’t get to try this place because my wife and I arrived at 8:17pm on Saturday (Oct 15) after walking a good 20 minutes to have Thai food per the good review on Google but they didn’t take us in as the restaurant was empty and per website they were supposed to be open until 9pm. Of course you should be empty, if you return customers like that even if they come within your open hours! Worst restaurant service experience without even trying!
Honestly, I’m not to crazy about my order. I ate it twice in one week back to back. My pad Thai was just bluh even the color of the dish seemed off.No major taste just plain I ordered a five on spice. My daughter got the Pineapple rice it was ok, I also got the flat/ drunken noodles can’t think of the exact name. Honestly wasn’t that impressed. Something is missing, I would like to try there curry dishes. I will try again but I wasn’t crazy about it…
Came for lunch. Great specials and variety. Service was great and was able to accommodate an allergy. Plus an Asian grocery right next door!
So, so delicious! Menu labeled with gluten free
What a surprise to find an out of the way, tucked in little restaurant and the food was delicious...ambience was a plus...
Excellent experience 👏 👌 👍
The quantity is good but the egg isn’t fried properly in the fried rice which gives weird smell to the food
Pitt has been serving the most slay and yum worthy thai food I've had (ever)! Thai Me Up is no exception to the rule, being just as incredible as Smiling Banana Leaf and the many others in town. The interior is a beautiful blend of cozy and warm, while still managing to be eclectic and filled with enough decor that it livens up the entire space. The waiters were absurdly fast, very understanding about allergies or restrictions, and really considerate of the guests they were serving. The food, which arrived surprisingly quick, was perfectly cooked and packed with a lot of flavor. I'm shocked at how amazing both the pho was and the fried rice, which just goes to show how far their quality spans. The fry appetizer was an amazing edition as well, but definitely more than enough food for what we paid for. This joint gets a solid 5 malcolms out of 5
Good noodles!
Amazing Thai food. Heavy on the nuts (Pad Thai), but wonderful meal, kind staff, and extremely quick.
Really like the food and how fresh the ingredients were
Best Thai in or out of the city. Kindest and most considerate staff I've ever experienced. Comfortable environment. Could not recommend more.
Spicy Thai rice. Apple tea. Delicious.
The food and stuff are always amazing every time you go there it's just a really great atmosphere always has the best Thai food
You’re bound to love this amazing restaurant. Go several times so you can pick a favorite dish.
Cute place. Nice service. Good food!
Lunch specials are $9.99 (summer 2022). It has become difficult to find a good lunch without going over $10 lately. I had the pineapple rice with tofu. You get your choice of meat, tofu or veggie. It was very good and a nice portion. I thought it didn't have enough pineapple, only about 3-4 chunks. There was slightly more tomato. Other people that like tomatoes would like the large chunks of tomato in the dish. I'd rather have had one less big chunk of tomato and 2 more chunks of pineapple. It's called pineapple rice. I thought the pineapple would be at least the third largest ingredient after rice and tofu. The egg and onion portions were good. I'd definitely eat here again to try some of the other dishes too.
Not sure why they have such positive reviews. I can’t comment on the dine in experience as we ordered take out. The red curry was basic as if cooked by an amateur chef. The noodles on fire were dry and tofu had no flavor. I still prefer smiling banana leaf over any other Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh.
Bad food and rude staff. Won’t go again and don’t recommend it to anyone.
The food was just spicy and lacked flavors.
We were in town on vacation. All six of us ordered different rice dishes and each one was delicious!
Excellent food and service. Beef and broccoli was perfect. I will be going back
Dis JAwn good ahh hell dude definitely recommend it
