Northeastern Thai Cuisine, true flavor of Isan cooking emphasis on seafood
The restaurant is spacious and we were able to get a walk-in table on a Saturday night. Service is fast and friendly and everything is fairly priced for this neighborhood. Would highly recommend the crab fried rice, which is one of the best I’ve had in New York, as well as its papaya salad, steamed Branzino, and marinate shrimps (very spicy). The steak kra pao was the only disappointing dish we ordered, which was dry and lacking in flavors.
I'm thoroughly impressed with this place, which is stunningly beautiful and has exceptional staff. The food is also outstanding, and I particularly enjoyed the Ka Pow, which I ordered extra spicy - it's incredibly flavorful and delicious. I'll definitely be returning very soon.
What a wonderful find! Delicious and spicy and not begin to describe the incredibly wonderful Thai food this restaurant serves.
Staff-the gentleman was extremely friendly and helpful-we sat outside with our dog and he brought fresh iced water and checked on our dog numerous times. He was very polite.
Food-superb. Some of the best Thai in the area. Perfect spice levels.
The pad see ew was super interesting because it came with pork and bacon (?), I really enjoyed it.
Chicken wings were flavorful and the beef hot pot kinda tasted like pho. Interesting but we would not get it again.
We are looking forward to coming back and trying other items like crab fried rice and drunken noodles!
This place is so much better than their location at pier 57.
Pad Thai is good. Fries are crispy. Others are just alright. Staffs are nice but we were “nicely” offered a cup of hot tea (which is just tea bag) when we arrived and then charged $6 for it without notice when check out. Other drinks are also very expensive. You do need do pack your leftover by yourself and you will see the 20% tips is default option. Overpriced.
We had our credit charge overcharged by $80…watch out travellers. Make sure you demand a receipt for Jen you add the trip. Our grid had also made a booking and it wasn’t recorded when we arrived.
Great fast delivery- food fresh and fast.
Absolutely loved this place! The Tom Kha soup and fried crab were absolutely delicious. Quaint and cozy, warm atmosphere; will definitely be back!
EXCELLENT FOOD! The night was wonderful, with attentive restaurant staff and wonderful food.
Delicious, uncommon Thai dishes here. Plus cocktails.
And I loved the giant blue shrimp on the ceiling.
Really authentic, love that the spare rib also had organ meat in it
This place will ruin all other Thai food for you. It was delicious, unfortunately for me who lives in Chicago. If you’re lucky enough to be local, you have to go there to keep them in business for the next time I travel there.
Came for brunch on Sunday with a group of 8. We ordered at least 12 different dishes and they were all absolutely delicious with fresh flavors and nice presentations. Although the mains all arrived at separate times, the wait staff was attentive without hovering. Loved the decor with the bright murals. Would definitely return.
I'm a bit torn on this place but ultimately have to give it a 2.
My friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant around 11am on a Saturday for brunch. Thus, we expected to get served quickly. However, our entrees took over 25 minutes to arrive. I got the fried rice which was unbelievably bland, underseasoned, etc. Like, I was actually in shock at how bad it was, and my friend agreed. So, for the first time in my life, I sent a dish back to the kitchen and requested the burger instead. It turns out, their chef didn't show up that day so some random worker cooked the fried rice. No wonder it was laughably bland.
After 10 minutes, the server came out and said they didn't have the ingredients for the burger. At this point, I was so over it and just decided to get whatever they recommended. Finally, that was decent tasting.
I ended up tipping the default 20% but almost wish I hadn't, because the experience honestly was ridiculous. No level of service can excuse the poor management of ingredients, food, and customer satisfaction.
Cannot recommend Zaab Zaab enough. The food is so delicious and authentically Thai. Extremely fresh and varied flavors. The servers were super helpful with the menu, recommending some amazing dishes! Also whatever that lime gimlet is, it was fantastic. This will be my new go to Thai spot. Also great for groups with several large tables!

Good host good service and very authentic food.
Food is very good and tasty.
Incredible, actually spicy, flavorful unique items. Shocking that they weren’t packed, def a hidden gem in the area

Excellent whole fish and crab fried rice!
The crab dish was SO good. I got the 2nd level spice which was perfect for this dish. The curry is on the noodles and you can eat the whole crab. If you want to have your curry with rice, you’ll need to order that on the side. Had the papaya salad as well. Good but we had it with the 3rd spice level (the hottest) and we couldn’t enjoy the salad as much :/
Big fan of the location in Queens so I’m excited that they opening one closer to me! Really delicious food. Very spicy! But worth it.

The food was great but the server was poor he service was down the drain he could not get our order right! We ordered shrimp noddle but got chicken noodle and did not apologized. Until we left we need not get any apology or any service about mistake he did.
Amazing flavors and quite spicy as it should be. The kind staff offered us a complimentary drink after seeing us struggle with the spice. Will come back often.
It’s all about the prawns. Giant, jumbo sized almost as big as a lobster. Buttery, rich, huge grilled prawns.
I’ve also had and can recommend:
- larb with fried duck skin
- rib eye
- soft shell crab curry
But again it’s the giant prawn that steals the show. They even have a giant blue prawn in the back of the restaurant hanging from the ceiling. It’s a sign. Get the prawns.
Food was way overpriced for the quality and quantity… I‘ve tried many thai food places across the city and this one was disappointing. The soft shell crab curry came with a small portion of sauce which was not enough to cover the noodles. The soup was too salty. Overall, I’d say this was not worth it and i do not recommend this place.
Server and bartender were sooo sweet and tried so hard to make us vegan Thai iced tea. If u have a dairy allergy tho make sure it's vegan, they first made it with milk, then evaporated milk on second try thinking that was dairy free, and then found a can of coconut and showed us to make sure.
The spicy lamb was delicious. Tofu and bean sprouts good too but really disappointing proportions of a dish made entirely of tofu and bean sprouts for 21 dollars.
Food wasn’t as good as I remembered it from 2022. Service was incredibly slow even for a large table of 8 like ours. And lots of time they got things wrong. Does not seem appropriately staffed for how busy it was!
So delicious. Great atmosphere and great service.
Vegan menu was great
Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants in NYC. The food is so authentic and incredible. Although we aren't familiar with many of the dishes, everything we've ordered is consistently delicious. It's so nice to have such a quality thai option in Williamsburg.
Had the lunch special with a chicken leg/papaya salad/sticky rice & soup, it was fantastic. The side soup was broth w/ scallions but was arguably the most delicious part of the meal. The walls were cute and great service
Hidden GEM in Williamsburg. Live music (solo guitarist) on Friday and Saturday was simply amazing. Bartender Pong has great energy and has been tending for 30 years. Our server Mack was good, and the food was all great. Pricing is slightly high but worth it. Will definitely return. 💯
tom kha gai was very good
Authentic Thai food at reasonable prices. The duck Larb is tremendous.
Came here a few days ago with friends and tried a variety of things!! We had the papaya salad with black crab (delicious and spicy), the shrimp ceviche-like appetizer (also great, also spicy), the yellow curry with crab and noodles (flavorful and not that spicy), and the whole tilapia with rice noodles - wonderful!! I would say if you're not a fan of spicy things, stick with mild options but they're all so flavorful and worth trying. The service was great and I found their suggestions really helpful! Would definitely return in the future.
Amazing food! Impeccable drinks and vibe is 100 with JJ singing live music
The best Thai food I’ve had in New York. Service is amazing and the drinks were fantastic. Would recommend this to anyone.
So good!!!!! Had absolutely delicious curry — perfectly prepared. The first authentic Thai food experience I’ve had in Williamsburg. Also highly recommend the sticky rice!!
The best Thai food I've ever eaten
Unreal. I have lived in Asia my whole life and this is the best Thai food I have ever found. Come here.
Everything are amazing! DEFINITELY try the mango sticky rice, its like nothing you ever found in this earth, out of this world experience!!! Oh well their coconut ice cream also very good but 🤔
Live Music and Amazing thai food
I could see this place getting a Michelin star in the future! A simple menu but very well-done, and I appreciated the full vegan menu. I got to try Thai dishes that are different from the pad thais, pad see ews, and curries that you normally see on American Thai restaurant menus. I liked the vegan laab a lot but it was very spicy!
Good for a very casual lunch
I LOVE Zaab Zaab (I've told everyone it's my favorite), but my recent visits have been SO inconsistent. The chicken soup tastes nothing like it used to, it's extremely sour with zero fragrance. The som tum is poorly pounded, overly sweet, and not at all spicy. I've been overall disappointed in my recent experiences. I'm not sure what happened, but there shouldn't be THIS much variability at a restaurant.
We got food poisoning from eating the papaya salad with raw shrimp and oysters in it. Stomach pains, vomiting, nausea, fever. One of us had to go to an emergency clinic. It was quiet serious. I’m not recommending this place because the most important thing for any food establishment is cleanness and safety.
Homestyle Thai cooking that is packed with bold flavor and not shy about spices! Service was friendly and helpful, ambience was colorful and fun, and the food was plentiful and tasty. Much better than Sage but way more casual than Kru.
Pad See ew was good, but the papaya salad had to be sent back THREE times because it was way too salty and sweet it felt like I was getting waterboarded by the sea water. Overall atmosphere is cute and the employees were relatively kind and friendly, so that made spitting up food feel a little better. I was starving at the end and ended up pouring my salad with water to “wash” away the salt.
I visit Bangkok at least once a year since I was a child and so I know what Papaya salad tastes like, but the waiter tried to gaslight me by telling me that it was “supposed to taste like that” 😭 i dont think Papaya salad is supposed to squint eyes. The worst part was after I was on the verge of tears and hunger, I asked to cancel the food because it just made me feel sick and they still charged me for the food….
I would go back to try the other food because the Pad see ew was good, but DO NOT order the papaya salad. No disrespect but I almost cried lmao
The good here is great - super flavorfull and with lots of herbal greens. While delicious on it own, it's missing the kick that is present in the Elmhurst location - feels like the spice levels have been watered down to cater to the Williamsburg crowd.
Authentic Isan food!! Really good!! The same flavour you can find in thailand!! Good job! Keep doing like this!
Definitely coming back for that Gaeng Om Gai! The fragrant herbs, the really soft diced chicken, and the light broth really make this. I don't think I've had this at any other Thai place in NYC. We also ordered the catfish larb which was good as well, just be aware of that it's quite spicy. Next time I'd like to be seated in the well lit area in the back or the bar, as we were seated in a really dark corner and could barely see our food haha.
Really outstanding. There’s a ton of great food in NYC, and this is among the best. The food is delicious, fresh, and feels special. Loved our meal here and can’t wait to come back.
Awful!! I made a reservation for 4 through Resy. Showed up at the correct location, at the reserved time, spent $200 for dinner. They failed to check me in through Resy and then charged me $60 for not keeping the reservation. They will not answer the phone. They will not honor the request to correct their mistake through the credit card company. Terrible customer service.
Edit - Thank you for your reply. I will update my review after 3-5 days.
update day 6 - no action from the Restaurant. Very disappointing..
Authentic Thai fares. Even familiar dishes take on refreshingly new flavor. Their liberal use of fresh herbs didn’t hurt one bit. We order shrimp pad Thai, Nam ya pu (soft shell crab with crab curry over noodles), larb ped u-Don (minced duck, crispy duck skin, and duck gizzard). Surprisingly, they serve glutinous white rice (sticky rice) with their larb.
Their medium spicy isn’t something to trifle with. We came at 6:45pm on Friday evening to a fairly empty place. But by 7:30pm, it was literally full house, with commensurate decibel of noise level.
Really enjoyed my meal here! My favorite is their steamed branzino in a lime broth followed by crying Tiger steak and the bacon pad see ew. Can’t wait to come back to try more of their food!
Come here for Thai spicy. Go elsewhere for Soviet spicy.
Some of the best (the best?) Thai food I've had.
For authentic Thai cuisine, this is definitely up there. The branzino I’m the lime sauce is a must. The crab curry with soft shell crab and chicken was also delicious. For those who can’t handle spicy medium is pretty spicy for me so I’d say go less. The green tea Thai ice tea was also a highlight.
The decor of the place is very oceanic themed and definitely a cute date spot. Staff is friendly and answered all our question.
Hi
I visited your restaurant march 16th.
I ordered Gai Yang.
I told the waiter that I love coriander and lemongrass so chicken marinated in these two lovely.
Unfortunately it was not good at all.
The chicken was very very dry and it didn’t taste lemongrass or coriander at all. The sauce was great but I couldn’t eat the chicken. It was so dry and tasteless.
I told the waiter and thought that he should offer me something else but he didn’t.
When I should pay there was a bottle of Perrier on my bill. I didn’t order a bottle.
And the food was not good.
I think it’s rude to treat a customer like that. The chicken wasn’t good and I didn’t order a bottle of water.
Excellent restaurant, recommend the whole steamed branzino. The first fish we got was oversalted but the waiter was super nice about getting us another one.
Absolutely incredible restaurant! Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in NYC (coming from a huge thai food fan). The laarb ped udon (duck salad) is the best I’ve ever had, and their som tums (papaya salad) and their krapow is also amazing. Definitely recommend this place!
Pretty awesome and what I’d expect from a dinner in Chiangmai, without the flight but a slight premium added to the food for that. Based on the reviews I really braced myself for the spice level. It is spicy but no more so than you’d find in northern Thailand, and I’ve had much spicier. The crab curry was awesome as was our catfish larb. I’d definitely come here again!
Unique aromatic dishes that can be a lot if you are not used to some spice! Really enjoyed the Larb
wonderful, unusual, spicy Northern Thai food in a bright modern venue. And, for the tame, the best pad thai ever.
Really great regional dishes. Tumeric crab curry was exceptional
Solid service. Food came out very quickly. Very cool interior.
Tiger prawns were excellent. But everything else was so spicy it made for an unpleasant meal. The papaya salad was difficult to eat it so was doused in chilis. Same with the duck larb and grilled steak. They really should offer reduced spice options.
I was really excited to try this place. The menu looked amazing. It seemed to be and WAS super authentic. We had the duck and liver larb which was quite good, but almost too spicy to eat. The shrimp papaya salad was so EXTREMELY SPICY that we couldn’t eat it. We normally can take a 4/5 on spice level anywhere else. We asked our server if the next time we visit can we ask for less spicy and he said “No, we don’t change the spice level to preserve the flavor of how it is supposed to be eaten.” I appreciate the authenticity - but I guess I can’t go back. Also, the price was not all that reasonable: $160 for 1 larb, 1 papaya salad, and 1 chicken entree, and 4 canned beers. If I could have actually eaten the food without a chemical burn - the price might have been worth it. Anyway, I’m disappointed to not be able to enjoy the well-curated menu. Is an-level spice is NOT for the weak. Be careful!
Came during the summer and the food was great, very flavorful. Really enjoyed the fish and the rib soup! Would love to come back on a cold day for them. As others have said, super spicy!
Service was nice but by the time we finished everything else we still had not received our larb. Since it’s like an app, we assumed the order wasn’t put in or forgotten which is totally fine, it happens, but when we mentioned it and asked to cancel they said it was in the works already. Took that at face value so said okay, but had to wait a while longer for it to come out. Wish they had comped us the rice or something at-least for the additional wait or just let us cancel it since they probably know how long it was going to take.
Duck larb was our favorite. Really great flavors and good spice level. Shrimp pad Thai was also very flavorful. We got one of the whole fish, $42, but it had so many bones that we ultimately had very little meat. Cocktails were interesting, but felt quite overpriced at $17-19 for what I thought was going to be an affordable Thai spot. One block away are nice bars with quality classic cocktails for $12.
Service was very kind and patient, though a little messy at times. Door banging loudly next to us into the kitchen, dropped trays of food, and all our dishes arriving at the same time on large boards made it hard to share the food or pass any plates.
Generally I had a good meal, but not great. I felt there are other Thai places I like more that are also better value for the price. My expectations were high due the recent mentions in the NYT, and sadly Zaab Zaab didn’t meet them for our group
4/5 for food, minus one for value
Excellent Food & Service
The food is hot and spicy!
And it's good.
Enjoyed dinner here. Mad spicey.
Thai food is spicy. If you want the real deal this is it. I spent a week in northern Thailand last year and this place comes pretty dang close. Sides of sticky rice are a must for the full experience.
Among the best thai restaurants in NYC. There are only a handful of places making Thai this authentic.
0 rating , ordered Branzino, they provided Tilapia , shrimp came with shell for Pad Thai
Really tasty and love the punchy flavors. The portions are HUGE so don’t over order.
Overhyped. The restaurant is fun and colorful but the food is unbearably spicy, salty or sweet to the point you simply cannot enjoy it.
Way too spicy.
New location in Brooklyn. I had not managed to get to their original in Woodside yet. Quality Thai food. Many dishes I had not tried before. The duck larb was special with a wide array of textures from crispy duck skin, chewy gizzards and tender heart. An excellent example.
Loved the herbal chicken curry. More like a soup the flavor was very interesting and there was a lot of protein.
Restaurant interior was pretty, service was a tad slow and forgetful but still pleasant. Our seat location had my back to the door. Unfortunately this provided an intermittent cold air which although unpleasant but did help to dry the sweat from the pleasantly spiced food. You do get to select the best level and we went with standard which was on point for us. I learnt my lessons from ordering Thai spicy from Hug Esan.
We had a few dishes not capture in the pictures. The Hor Mok was awesome (albeit funky and not for the faint hearted).
I’ll be back!
Everything was perfect! Spicy, not too spicy, not too oily, not too sweet. The grilled chicken, the duck larb, and the prawn pad Thai!
Food was good. Manager came out and argued with us aggressively because someone in our party sent one plate back.
I went to the Queens location a few weeks ago and loved the food and service so much that I decided to bring a group of my friends here.
Our server was very kind and attentive, and all of the dishes were great except for the grilled chicken. The chicken tasted like it had either been cooked the day before, or the meat itself was not fresh — not what I would expect with a $20+ dish. There was an musky old chicken taste that was borderline inedible. When I told the server he took it back.
Minutes later, the manager came and started arguing with me in an extremely rude and arrogant way. He asked me if I had ever been to Thailand. I said no, then he said “ok I’m just going to walk away now,” chuckling to himself while my friends and I were in shock. Then he continued to berate me about how I don’t understand Thai flavors — even though he could clearly see that I was enjoying everything else that we ordered. Is it authentic to serve old chicken in Thailand? I don’t think so. He even had the nerve to ask me if I was a chef. Little did he know, I have cooked in restaurants kitchens in the past and I know that you should always taste the food before it goes out. This is not how you should be treating your customers who have chosen to visit your restaurant out of literally tens of thousands in the city. I don’t go out and spend over $100 at restaurants so I can be barked at by the staff.
If the owner is reading this, please do something about this manager because he is ruining your business. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning to Zaab Zaab.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING VEGAN FOOD ON THE MENU!!! got to come here!
You don’t come here for the service!
Food was good, but the service was very rushed and fast paced. We (5x people) sat down at 830 and out by 935. We asked for recommendations and the waiter basically read the entire menu to us. Maybe they were having an off night, but wasn’t the experience we were hoping for.
Incredible and unique with an authentic cozy vibe.
📍zaab zaab
new thai resto in williamsburg 〰️ this place is specialized in seafood and north eastern food. ordered many dishes and cannot finish them as the portion is huge and everything looks so yumm.
🏷️ grilled chicken is the best! it’s so tender and juicy.
🏷️ papaya salad tastes so authentic. a bit spicy but that’s a true flavor.
🏷️ beef basil stir fry is okay. nothing stands out.
🏷️ pad thai is great! although the noodle is a bit too soft for my liking.
anyway, would come back when i crave spicy thai food~ all for about $70.
We were enticed by the design but sadly the experience here fell short. First… The food was extremely spicy. I must mention my husband is Indian and we can totally handle spice.. but this was to a level where it was not enjoyable.
Flavor of the liver larb dish was totally off, it tasted like lime soap.
The cooked fish was the best out of the items but wasn’t memorable enough to go back.
The rice was hard to eat, came wrapped in plastic (it should be in a bowl.) plastic was sticking to the rice.
The quality of food was not great, the meat wasn’t high quality for sure.
Cocktails are $18… for that price on this block I’d much rather go to William Vale or Fresh Kills.
The waiter wasn’t that attentive. Too expensive for the quality of food and the experience, won’t be returning.
Wonderful place to eat dinner with friends. Service is excellent. The food is very flavorful; completely different than your run of the mill drunken noodle spot. The dishes are very unique and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The Kapow stood out in terms of deep flavor and also the prawn pad Thai was probably the best pad Thai I’ve had in a long time. When we arrived at 6:30 there was plenty of space but it was packed by the time we left, so prob best to get a res on a weekend night.
Order over an hour late, nobody picks up the phone or responds. Absolutely garbage service.
Holy moly! Took my mom & a few friends to the Wburg location and we were thrilled. The food was incredible (duck larb, kapow, soup, fries, steamed pork belly, & curry), as were the drinks. Very spicy but not torture to a variety of palates at the lowest spice level. Great service, great atmosphere, and despite stuffing ourselves and having leftovers, no one felt uncomfortably full as the food was surprising light. New fave in the neighborhood and looking forward to testing out the OG in Woodside. Thank you!
We didn’t really understand the hype. The larb and som tum dishes were so spicy to the point that they were not enjoyable, and I enjoy spicy food (I promise I do). Especially the som tum - after a few bites my mouth was on absolute fire - and they told us that was the lowest spice level they could make that dish. The meatballs were actually good (and had a nice dry spice flavor to them). That big fish dish that is recommended had a nice presentation and was very tender, but it was so salty to the point that it was hard to truly enjoy. I read that people say “this is authentic Isan cuisine”, but I’m not sure if uncomfortably spicy and offensively salty food is ok at any rate. Giving it two stars because we felt that we wasted our time and money going to this hyped up spot. You really let me down NYT.
First off, food is 6/5 — totally worth the hype and is incredible. We got the fries, branzino (our waiter’s favorite) and chicken/liver/gizzard larb. All awesome.
Service was 2.5/5. We ordered a Thai Iced tea and we had to ask three (!!) times for it to be brought out. The food is really spicy, so only getting the drink already halfway done with dinner was grating. Not as big a deal but there was also confusion on the rice ordered (wrong order got brought out) and getting our card picked up took a while.
Zaab zaab, PLEASE fix some of the service issues here. Looking forward to coming back and giving this place 5 stars.
I would say that the food is DELICIOUS, especially the fries. It’s probably the best fries I’ve had. The prices are pretty high but keep in mind each dish pretty much serves two people, so don’t feel the need to over-order. The fish (Branzini) was very delicious, crispy, and had just the amount of salt and crunchy bits. I also tried the cocktails as well, and I will say they are also good there. The only area of feedback I would say is that the service is a little too laid back for the price; some of the servers, we had to call over several times because they were not checking in. It’s not a total complaint, but definitely an observation. I recommend trying it! Really authentic Thai food i’ve had in NY.
This was SOOO amazing! The owners were there and super attentive and make great convo. The food was insane - so fresh and unique! The best Thai I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to come back and try more things! I love spicy food so it didn’t bother me but if you’re sensitive this might not be a good pick for you
