Thai Tapas and wine bar--a full Thai menu w/ vegetarian, gluten free, and kosher-style options and customized choices. A chic and welcoming space in a diverse neighborhood close to CMU and University of Pittsburgh.
It was an amazing dine-in experience. We had such a great time..great staff, delicious food especially the Tapas! We had Pas Thai Veg and Noodles Curry with chicken and shrimp . They were nice. The Thai iced tea was so refreshing. We also loved the Siam Paragon-a must try for seafood lovers! The veg spring roll, corn fritters and the dumplings were great too. We loved visiting here and can't wait to go back. A very nice ambience to dine-in.
Visited silk elephant on a Friday evening, and it was pretty full, although there were a couple of tables free, and we were able to get seated right away. The decor and ambience of the place are quite standard and nothing exotic or extraordinary, but the service is personalised and quick. The food to be honest is just okay. I started with a Tom kha soup, which is one of my favourite Thai soups, and while the flavours were largely there, it was by no way authentic. It was missing Kafir lime leaves, as well as there were bell peppers in the soup, which are not traditional at all. Then we had the noodles wrapped shrimp, which to be honest was a bad decision on our part. It was very noodle forward, and we couldn’t taste the shrimp at all. I had the basil fried rice, which was probably the best dish of the night for me with really plump shrimps and a good quantity of rice, and all the flavours that I expect from Thai fried rice. My friend had the Pad Kee Mao which tasted more like a pad see ew. The spice which you expect from the pad kee mao were missing. I guess the flavours have been modified to suit to the local palette which obviously takes away a bit from the authenticity of the cuisine. I would definitely order the fried rice again, but I don’t know if I would want to order the other dishes again.
While in the area I was craving Thai food and my friend mentioned she knew of a good place nearby. We stopped by around 1130 on a Sunday and it was almost empty when we got there. We were seated right away and ordered a bunch of different foods to share including mussamun curry, pad see ew, pad kee mow, Thai noodle soup, chicken satay, and Thai iced tea. I’d say everything was really good with the exception of the kee mow. It had veggies in it that I’ve never had in it before and I just didn’t love it as much I have at other places. The mussamun was delicious and the noodle soup is something I’ve never had before but will definitely be on my radar from now on. The inside was nice, the staff was really friendly, and the food came out pretty quickly. Overall I thought it was a good experience and I would go back!
The taro spring roll was very good with the sauce is excellent. The tom yum was average for me, it needs a little bit kick on spices. The papaya salad was good although having it with the grilled chicken and the sticky rice were a little bit off. The beef noodles kinda bland to me, we expected something sweet and spicy but instead it was just a beef broth not so flavorful and they threw slices of beef on it with some cilantro.
The server was giving us good service and the atmosphere was cozy and on theme.
I always order takeout from Silk Elephant, and I’ve visited the restaurant twice. The service is great, and the food is consistently delicious, both for takeout and dine-in. I especially love their tapas and Pad Thai! My only comment is that the tables and floors can be sticky, which could use some attention.
Had a wonderful lunch at the Silk Elephant on Sunday, September 11th. The restaurant was clean and staff were inviting and friendly. The presentations and amounts were perfect! And the food was wonderful! We were completely satisfied with our meals and the pricing. Will plan to go there again.FYI: There is also a bar in the restaurant. Pictured are the salad/spring roll plate (included with each lunch), Payang curry with tofu, and Green curry with tofu. It was so delicious!
ordered through doordash after a long flight got to hotel, and found the only restaurant still open at the time to receive order thru doordash, first of all very very disappointed with the food quality and packaging, first of all I requested spicy (prove stated on the receipt) and yet they didn't follow my instructions, second is they don't even give an utensils !!!! I stayed in hotel room end up eating with hand cause how starving I was. really really ridiculous and disappointed!Definitely not recommend this restaurant, taste of the food are super bland! fried rice are too moist and mushy.as you can see on my pictures, so embarrassing to post eating with bare hand but here's are how disappointed I'm.

The food expensive (I can go somewhere else and pay less for the same food) but the food does taste good. We came on a cold quiet day for dinner, so our food came in less than 10 mins of us ordering (I consider that fast for a sit-down restaurant). The spring roll is ok but could be better, but the pad thai is great! My husband got the fruity fried rice I think and he said it was good, but this dish may not be for everyone since he did not like some of the fruit that they added into the rice.

I came here on a Sunday. The atmosphere is very relaxing, good music, and interior is well decorated. We got the lunch special for $8.50, which came with a complementary salad, veggie roll and broccoli soup. I tasted a thai noodle dish and it was very delicious. My friend tried a vegetarian dish and she said it was good. The wait staff were friendly. For now I will give them a four star. If my new few visits continue to be good I will update to a five star.
The don’t used fresh produce in their dishes every dish we ordered the meat and the veggies smelled spoiled.
Best Pad Thai in town. Just get it. Thank me later.
Got take out, quick and delicious. Got the crab crown app, and mango sticky rice
Great food. Service was a bit slow. Had to ask for water 3 times before I finally got some. Otherwise highly recommend for food and drinks
Love this place! Everything is delicious

Order chicken Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao, at varying spice levels. Food is completely without flavor and spice level was completely arbitrary but nowhere near spicy, and relies heavily on the peanuts to carry the dish. Pad Kee Mao is almost entirely cabbage. If this were the only Thai restaurant in the area I still wouldn’t recommend it.
Very good Thai
Great people and service always a great atmosphere and clean place and they people cooks servers are always so kind and quick and attentive
Ordered lamb chop appetizer, got 2 of the smallest lamb chops that I have ever seen in my life and it arrived cold....
Ordered shrimp pad Thai and the shrimp tasted very rubbery, it was terribly overcooked...
And to top all that off, the waitress was not very polite...
I worked here for 5 years so you can't really take my opinion serious but the owner, cooks and servers are worth it amazing food made by mindful peoples I left four years ago and still go in if you haven't please check it out it is one of the few restaurants left in Pittsburgh that cares more about your expirence then trying to rip you off 100 percent recommend
I visited US from London for the first time.
Food was good, the main issue I faced related to Silk Elephant was putting Tip from their own side and charged my account without letting me know which was illegal for them to do.
We went on 14th October at 6.58 pm.
Initially the bill came as $77.58 (£59.55), I was not aware that the tip needs to be written on a paper separately after paying the bill, so when they gave me the sheet being not aware I just put my signature (thinking that they are asking to sign since they used my card which is usually the case in rest of the world) and I kept the tip and total area blank.
I was aware that they usually ask you to provide the tip… since nothing was told to me we left.
After 2-3 days noticed they added tip of 10% from their side and charged my card without consent, practically they forged the amount in the sheet.
I have no problem with the Tip but when tip is something at discretion of customer then the restaurant writing the tip amount from their side on that sheet is illegal and unprofessional.
It was a very cheap step taken from their side. It’s a real shame that they did this way.
No manners at all.
Kept a very bad taste indeed.
People visiting Pittsburgh from other parts of the world please avoid going to Silk Elephant there are better places in the same area.
❌ ❌AVOID SILK ELEPHANT❌❌
Average
The prices on the menu (both online and the menu book) does not match what is charged. They charged us more than what was listed on the menu. When we asked the waitress, she mentioned they have updated the charges but forgot to change it on some of their menu cards.
This lack of attention to detail and transparency is not only frustrating but reflects poorly on the establishment's commitment to accurate and honest service.
This restaurant is owned by the kindest family, and the food is delicious. 10/10

Really good lemonade and Thai iced tea. We also really enjoyed the red curry in the pad Thai we'll definitely be back again soon.
They are such a kind people and foods delicious 😊
Nothing outstanding, pad thai and fried rice were good. Serviceable, sufficiently tasty.
Dropped in on a whim and had a phenomenal green curry; drank the bowl dry! Would recommend!
The food is awsome and the atmosphere is good but I dont like there service very delay response from the service.

Great service. The food was flavorful and zesty. Tried 3 dishes and all were presented quite well. When asked, they can make it nice and spicy. The street is fairly busy however you may get free street parking if you are lucky. Street parking is usually free after 8pm I believe.
The food was delicious, came out fast and service was great! We’ll be back, worth our 30 mins drive.
Food was great. Service was slow.

My friend and I traveled to Silk Elephant from Bethel Park. Three Reasons:
: We love the Chicken Pad Thai.
: We love the Thai Crab Bisque and Salmon Rolls
: We love the Mango Juice
The prices are so reasonable especially compared to how other restaurants have really spiked their prices. Service is always good. Hooray for them. Love giving them my business.
Very popular Thai restaurant serving consistently good dishes. I particularly recommend the fried tofu starters, the Pad Kee Mow (Lemongrass), and the faux duck salad. Great for vegans and Vegetarians.

Great food as always and a very nice wait person. We enjoyed our meal and drinks. However, it's been awhile since we visited and the decor, flatware, plates have changed. Silk Elephant is now less stylish, less handsome. Not bad but not great either.
Best Thai food in the city!!!
Got sick after eating there, I think I had food poisoning.i’ll never go back. I asked for a straw and the waitress to me she didn’t have. I was very upset
This is my almost 20th visit in last 24 months. Nice choices from noodles to curry to rice. Mainly vegetarian options available.
Best Thai food in the city. Whenever the go to vegan festivals, they have amazing food.
Would not recommend. Bland food and slow service.
I will be buying the soup by the quart - minus the mushrooms (which if you Liv them, you'll be in 7th heaven!). I added chicken to it and it became a meal more than an appetizer.😄 The (salmon) dumplings and sauce were unusual in shape, however serve with a ginger sauce, yum. Definitely a new Sunday after church stops. Bringing the grands next time for dinner before I take them home. I will figure out how to bypass Forbes and the ice cream shops, our usual Sunday treat. Luv the Silk Elephant!
Fantastic food, very reasonable alcohol prices (food as well) & very friendly staff 😎
Great food, cocktails, atmosphere and superior service!! Will be back!
Everything was delicious and prices were very reasonable!
The food and atmosphere were both fantastic!
Really delicious food, very reasonable prices and a great date atmosphere.
Food was ok, but portions were small for the price
This place is great. Always consistent and food is on point. Well worth the price. The server, atmosphere and food were all excellent. Give it a try when you're around and you won't be disappointed.
Delicious! The pumpkin curry was amazing!
The food was absolutely delicious!
We picked up take out, thai beef salad and veggies with tofu. Both were good and above average. The only complaint is they have a hefty upcharge for brown rice.
Lovely! We’ve always loved this place 😀
Great food!
Silk Elephant in Pittsburgh truly wows with their delectable menu. The Jain fruity fried rice bursts with vibrant flavors, while the pad Thai and drunken noodles showcase a perfect balance of spices. The crispy corn fritters are an irresistible delight. What sets this place apart is their willingness to accommodate dietary restrictions, making every diner feel welcomed. Combined with the warm and accommodating staff, Silk Elephant is a must-visit for a satisfying and inclusive dining experience
Truly authentic Thai🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭, EXCEPT the one they call crab crowns (AKA crab rangoons), made with cheese, an ingredient that DOES NOT exist in Thai cuisine.
The issue with this place is that their sauces tend to be very sweet 🫤🫤🫤. In particular, their Tamarind sauce, which is unique to Thai, Lao, Viet cooking, is severely sweet that prevents savoring the delicate flavors.—-Insist that they not add sugar to the entrees.
The Siam Paragon is visually stunning😎😎😎. It’s listed as their signature dish, enjoyment of which is unfortunately dampened by a terribly sweet sauce👎👎👎…. I was just glad to have it lifted from the plate it was served on before biting into it.
The salmon dumpling was unique, and flavorful. The wasabi sauce was very good, not sweet 😎😎😎
The Crispy Duck (listed as among the “Tamarind Supreme”) is excellent 🤩🤩🤩. Smoky flavor, fat rendered very very well, juicy. BUT again the tamarind sauce is very sugary sweet🫤🫤🫤, hence, insist it be served on-the-side as I did.
The restaurant itself is spacious with very pleasing ambience. There is an open bar.
Service is very good.
Great service and wonderful food.
Very cool place, food is very good here, the staff is really cool and nice!!!!
No water refill or table service thru the entire meal…
Good food but the service was a lil rough
The chicken was raw. If you want good Thai food in Pittsburgh go to literally any other Thai restaurant.
Their tofu is so so good. Pumpkin curry with tofu is to die for.
I really enjoyed my meal! They give you generous portions, everything is flavorful and well prepared. The spice scale was great- I felt it was very easy to get a mild, non spicy dish or a hot, spicy dish to your taste. The service was great, my server was very fast and pleasant.
Delicious food, big servings, very reasonable price. One of the best places in Pittsburgh, for sure. I will say, I miss their old decor, though, particularly the awning. It had such a unique feel. Otherwise this place is a 5/5 and me and my girlfriend have become regulars here
AMAZING Thai food, and the staff is very nice. We were visiting family from out of town when we ate here, and even being unfamiliar with the area/parking it was very simple to get to. We bought a cooler just to be able to take the leftovers home! In my opinion, it’s a must visit if you’re a fan of Thai cuisine.
The Green Curry was outstanding
Solid dinning experience.
Placed a pickup order for the family. I arrived about ten mins early, but didn't get my food until 20 mins past the quote time. They had several to-go orders ready to go, so I assume they were getting crushed with mobile orders. Staff was pleasant, food was hot and delicious even after driving for ten minutes.
Silk Elephant is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Pittsburgh! The lunch specials are such a great deal, you get a salad, spring roll, and entree for about $10. The drinks and tapas are all great as well. The noodle curry and pad see ew are some of my favorite dishes. Definitely check this restaurant out if you're in Squirrel Hill, especially for lunch!
Customer service was poopoo, I understand it might be busy sometimes but to get completely ignored was kinda harsh and I was hangry that also did not help with the situation. So me and my partner left quietly without ordering.
Good food, good service!
Enjoyed a delicious lunch at Silk Elephant with our family last Saturday. The menu had something for everyone and the server was able to provide great recommendations for people who were uncertain of what to order.
The straight up Pad Thai is phenomenal, as were the basil rice dish, and Thai Noodle Soup meals. Lunch comes with a perfectly sized salad (great dressing!) and spring roll.
Definitely recommend!
it's aight
All around solid Thai
Very reasonable prices for the amazing taste and satisfying portion sizes. Ample seating, not cramped inside at all, lovely servers.
Great friendly staff and good tasty food.
Great Thai food! There are loads of Thai options around Pittsburgh, and tons of Asian food in Squirrel Hill. This place has some really interesting and unique options as well as a diverse menu. I decided to stick to my go-tos. Ordered the pad Thai (mild spice) with extra sauce and tofu as well as the Thai custard with coconut sweet sticky rice.
Wow, they give you a huge portion of noodles for pad Thai! And it's very tasty as well. I asked them for some extra sauce so it wouldn't be dry, and they did not disappoint. This was a satisfying amount of sauce. Also, they gave me lots of peanuts (much more than most places) and perfectly followed some of the other instructions for my order. And, they added in large chunks of fried tofu. It was decently well soaked in the sauce and pretty tasty. Decent amount of eggs and bean sprouts. Overall, quite good.
The Thai custard was also quite tasty. The custard itself was absolutely excellent. Good portion, perfect balance of sweetness, not too eggy, just a great treat. The rice was sticky and decent. Oddly, there were kernels of black rice in it (I've not seen this before in Thai sticky rice). There wasn't quite enough coconut topping/sweet milk.
All in all, a very solid option for Thai food in Squirrel Hill. I definitely prefer their pad Thai over Thai and Noodle Outlet. Portions are quite large, prices decent. They have loads of unique tapas options, like corn cakes, mussels, and more. I'd recommend.
This was very disappointing. The food did not taste fresh and it was not very good.
Oh my gosh. Real Thai food beyond good. My favorite noodle wrapped shrimp. Giant shrimp. Cold coffee with crazy yummy cream. This food is unbelievable veggy rolls are out of this world. Come hungry. You’ll freak out. It’s clean a nd nice people. Made by real artist of Asian food. Thailand food. Tell them Wilailak and me. Guy sent ya. Maybe a surprise
Had a wonderful lunch at the Silk Elephant on Sunday, September 11th. The restaurant was clean and staff were inviting and friendly. The presentations and amounts were perfect! Might be the best place in Squirrel Hill. Very good food, good prices, large portions, and some of the nicest staff. Me and my girlfriend have become regulars here and never get tired of it. I'd give it 6 stars if I could
Good Thai food
Just ok. More like a diner than a restaurant. Prices are fair.
Always liked silk elephant. Very solid and consistent, but they had a buy one get one on pad Thai and fried rice today and each one was phenomenal.
I had never had Thai before but it was wonderful! So good!
Food was delicious.
Very good food at a decent price. Waitress was great and the high ceilings and art are a nice touch.
Good good and great service
My favorite Thai restaurant! There are many dishes that I love, such as the Pad See Ew, frutty fried rice or Massaman curry. The waiting time is sometimes quite long though.
Tasty curry fish and the Thai iced tea was very good.
This once first-rate restaurant has not recovered from the pandemic. Ate their last night. Will not return.
This place is great!! The tapas are awesome, I recommend the Thai shrimp and pork toast.
Great Thai food.
Loved their Noodle Soup a lot.
Loved the tofu here!!!
Food was delicious and great staff!
It was excellent way better than 8 years ago. They made special for me woon sen pad thai. Glass noodles in my pad thai I loved it. Chicken was perfect and tender sprouts and peanuts and green onion were all fresh. Crab ragoon was excellent but they call it tapas or something it was very good. Waitress was very sweet.
Friendly staff. Very accommodating. Delicious food.
The atmosphere is nice and the noodle dishes and curries are really good. However the meat dishes I’ve ordered (basil duck and lamb curry) both don’t have much meat and were fairly expensive.
This used to be one of my favorite places for special occasions but unfortunately it seems like the place has gone downhill. For $21 you'll get 5 small pieces of duck meat in the Duck Basil.
Delicious food!
So good, and great price at lunch time!!!
The food is really good and I always come with my friends! Usually it is not crowded so getting seated is quick.
Nice place
SO good! Interesting curry selections and a variety of reasonably priced tapas to try. Option of 1-10 spice level for the curries...we went with 8, which definitely had a kick, but we probably could have gone up to 10. Fast and friendly service. $55 for 2 glasses of wine, 2 curries, and an app.
Excellent food. Love trying small tapas and sharing many with a group of 6. It was quiet enough to easily hold conversations. Really enjoyable evening.
I love the chicken pad thai :-)
The thai tapas is incredible! Have not had anything less than excellent.
Super tasty Thai food. I enjoy their Pad Thai and their Tom Khan soup.
The tom kha and the thai tea are both absolutely fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥 literally had to write my review halfway thru the bowl and drink. (& Coming from San Diego, my standards are set pretty high). I got my tom kha at a level 6 and tbh I wish I got it at a 10! I like my thai food really spicy, but ya never know what the level will be like the first time ya go. Definitely getting a 10 next time for sure! The spring rolls we tried werent bad, but I wasnt too fond of the dipping sauce, and I wish i ordered them with veggies rather than chicken. probably wont get them again unless they have a plum sauce or something similar. We also got the basil fried rice and the panang curry. The panang curry is on the sweeter and basil side. It was good, a 6 is a tiny bit spicy but i would also order a 10 next time i get the curry. The basil fried rice was really good. The 6 was a little bit spicy on the tounge, but was overall good. Next time ill probably try the red curry, just because of preference. But i would def get the basil fried rice again 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Really great food and very friendly staff. Highly recommend that you check out this restaurant in squirrel Hill.
So I completely love this place, but I was there today and I ordered a noodle curry with chicken level 1! She brought me a noodle soup, then I told her nicely that it wasn’t what I ordered:( then she brought the noodle curry spicy level 4, she told me it was level 4! I told her I didn’t want it like that, she didn’t do anything about it. Then she just brought the check and I told her that I couldn’t eat it because it was too spicy and then again, she didn’t do anything about it! Mistakes happens but I think they can try to fix it.
