I cannot tell you enough about this amazing place! The decor is very minimal but nicely done. There are covered picnic tables outside or you can eat inside and the customer service is outstanding.
Now let's talk about the food! It is so incredible. To be honest I can only talk about the Pork Pad Thai because that's what I had, but it was the most flavorful Pad Thai I have had in my whole life. I will say the pork was a little dry which was slightly disappointing but the flavor made it so that I didn't even really care! They also give you a very generous amount of food. Chances are you will have leftovers to take home! I will be going back to try so many other dishes. We also had Thai tea which was excellent. If you are in Portland I highly suggest checking out Sawasdee. Oh, and if you are with a group of people and some don't like Thai food there's also a taco truck, that smelled really good, in the parking lot of the Thai restaurant!
The only downside is you have to park on the street. There's a lot of construction going on and parking really sucks.
I was so disappointed. I thought I was going to an actual restaurant. I walked in to an empty room that had arrows and signs telling me to walk through some plastic curtains. It was actually creepy and freezing cold. I walked into where there were several tables , dark and still freezing I should have left. A nice lady came from the back and greeted me. I ordered my food. They were fast. The quality of food was horrible. The rice was incredibly mushy with very little flavor and the Crab Puffs had zero flavor. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone.
The food is really good but I'd consider it overpriced for the portions. It is a really small business though so I'm sympathetic in that aspect. Definitely a take-out restaurant, but if you're bulking their rice and chicken is a go-to for me.
Our food was fresh and delicious!! The complimentary hot tea was great on a cold, rainy PNW day :-)
The restaurant is currently operating out of their food truck off to the side of the building. The restaurant itself might seem like it's closed but make sure you walk around to where the patio area is. They have tables available for you to dine in and they offer take out. Either way, you'll be sure to enjoy your food. Their flavorful meals will have you coming back for more. We got their signature red curry and pad se ew. We wanted dto get the tom kha soup but ended up being too full from our deliciously flavorful selections of foods. Their Thai tea is also super food. Make sure you try it!

This is first time we tried this and not regreted for that. Really worth it 😄
Yellow curry was really good and pad Thai was great too since it was not too sweet:) it would be nice if they served lime and peanuts with their pad Thai though.
My go to spot in our neighborhood for Thai take out. Food is delicious and very reasonably priced!
Best pad Thai in Portland!
Sawasdee has been a staple for me and my coworkers for years now.
Ordered the tofu pad thai with Thai tea. Service was fast and food was authentic and delicious. Highly recommend!

The staff here are always friendly for dine in or take out. Delicious food and always the right spice. One of my favorite Thai food places!
Parking can be challenging close to lunch time, just pick a spot when you see one. Its worth the short walk!
Best Pad Kee Mao I’ve found.
Update: always steamy hot, perfect amount of spice, never greasy, super chewy delicious noodles. And now there is indoor seating with an extensive drink selection?
I go whenever I can!
Nah how is a 4.5 star place that has been open for 4+ years dead on a Monday night at 7pm? These ratings are out of control. The food was OKAY but definitely not worth you making a special trip to visit. Think we saw 2 people do pickup orders and a food delivery pickup in the hour that we dined.
Great food with friendly service. Made fresh with good sized portions. Food comes out quick too. Love going here for lunch!
Tucked away and so worth it. Took the kids to play date pdx. And ran here two blocks away for a togo dinner cause not every adult wants to eat pizza, fruit, chicken tenders and fries with their kids at every kids place. Fair priced. Even in today’s market. Nice people who work here. And food is consistent and well done. Lots of meat in the pad thai.
Shrimp 🍤 Pad Kee Mao was Delicious 😋
I ordered Pad kee Mao. I'm not sure what was delivered, but it wasn't pad kee mao. I've eaten at dozens of Thai restaurants over the years. This dish had no onion, no basil, no tomato, no sauce and was just bland and horrible. I threw it away. Thankfully GrubHub refunded me, but you should never ever go here.
Super yummy and flavorful food. Got the Pad Thai and my partner got the Pad See Ew; both were delicious and sauced very well. My new go-to Thai spot.
Used to go to the cart on Morrison all the time ~ sawasadee still legit the sh—
Update - September 2023. Came back and got the House Special red curry. Prepared fresh and piping hot. Very tasty. Mild was perfect for me.
Aug. 2022 The Pad Thai was pretty good, but the Pad See Ew was very bland with clumps of wide noodles stuck together in a gummy mass. Definitely would not get it again. Portions were nice and large.
Ate here twice in one day. Both times food was amazing! The owners were very sweet and kind to us especially to my kids. Food was all freshly made. I enjoyed that the veggies were still crunchy and not soft/over cooked. Thank you so much for the amazing food.
UNBELIEVABLE curry special... My friend and I got the Mango Curry w/Chicken and pot stickers. The mangoes, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, carrots, peas, etc were cooked to utter perfection. The red coconut curry sauce was so rich, complex, and thick. Just Heaven. The pot stickers were a perfect mix of sweet and savory with an INSANELY good house made sweet and sour sauce. The white rice was at the ideal level of stickiness.
This place is gem and punches WAY above it's price point. The entire special and app just came to $20!
We have already decided to come back and sample the entire menu... It's THAT good y'all.
I ordered the Pad See Ew and it was terrible. I requested the lowest spice and it came extremely spicy. Noodles with no sauce and didn’t resemble the images on menu very closely.
Tasty and flavorful food without too much oil
THE 2 EMPLOYEES LIED FULLY DID NOT LISTEN TO ORDERS COMPLETELY MESSED UP FOOD
MY youngest almost choked entirely way to show you are not kid friendly.
WAITING AND WAITING FOR THE FOOD TO GO BACK AND REFUNDED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE
I USED TO BE A LONG TWRM CUSTOMER BUT THIS MEAL WAS DULLY MADE WRONG AND NOW IM GHOSTED
Fantastic people and even better food. The curry is to die for. By far, best Thai in Portland.
Small place food was very good. I got Pad See Ew and some rangoons - asked for medium spice and was not too much or too lite. great flavor. The staff was very friendly.
This unassuming little Thai restaurant in Slabtown is unbeatable. The Pad Kee Mao is better than anything I've experienced at Bangkok's hawker stalls. Don't miss this gem of a restaurant.
STOP. LISTEN. This is the BEST pad Thai I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve traveled around. The best. Don’t be fooled by these other trendy spots with thumping music and accent lights. You’ll never order from the again after you try Sawasdee. Real, authentic, straight to the point great Thai.
I went when they were just a cart. Now that they have an inside space it is even better!
This was some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I got the red curry with chicken and it was insane. The guy at the counter asked what level of spice I wanted and I said “just enough to make a white person sweat” and he gave me exactly that. 10/10 go to this place!!!
I was surprised with how delicious this place was. It's just so small and I always walk passed it on the way to work, and it's usually not very busy. But man their curry is delicious and so is the pad Thai of course. Everytime I go there is a tiny lady that takes my order, and no matter how big the order is or how many people are there, she has the order done in seriously like 3 minutes it's actually pretty crazy. I like this place. Not high end, but very cozy and welcoming and super tasty. And everything can be ordered with whatever chosen spice level
This place has delicious food. Made fresh.
This place is phenomenal, best Thai food I’ve had in a long time with great customer service. Would recommend everyone come visit the place
Pad Kee Mao was meh and overpriced. There is way better Thai in Portland than here.
Love the Rangoon it also has a nice atmosphere and friendly service
Sad it says their open but are not today
Love this place! Eat here a few times a month as I work nearby, quick enough to be called fast food without the fast food junk! Takes about 5(+/-) minutes to get your food and its always hot and fresh. Would recommend this to anyone! Customer service is wonderful and I've never been disappointed. Pad thai, tom yum, house special curry, mango curry, and chili paste fried rice are all to die for!! I think I'll go there today. :)
Place rocks 😋😋😋
This place never disappoints! Every time I try something different it’s delicious. My go to’s are Tom Kha soup and chili paste fried rice.
Delicious delicious! And always friendly. Highly recommend.
Ordered the pork Garlic Lover. Low-quality meat that was mostly fat for $14. Location is filthy. Way better Thai options in the neighborhood.
I have no clue how this place has so many good reviews? The noodles were dry and stuck together no moisture at all also very generic in flavor didn’t taste authentic by any standards. I’ve ate at over 25 Thai places in the city and this was by far the worst. Great customer service but food isn’t all that
I got the Singapore noodles and they were absolutely delicious. I went on a quiet day. My food was made very quickly. And I had a nice deck to eat and relax on
We got the pot stickers, fried rice, and pad see ew, which are our Thai restaurant favorites. The portions were good, but there was not as much flavor as we would’ve liked. We did get “no spicy” so perhaps the lack of flavor is due to that. There is a mild option, so would try it again with that and see.
After pandemic, my first visit ordered beef Pad Thai noodles. Same taste and yummy but pricy from $10 to $14.
These guys have been around for a long time for a reason. Straight from Thailand and they know what they are doing. Also the are accommodating for different requests.

Fresh this food banana black bean cake 😋
Good portions, although almost all of it was rice and sauce with Gerry little being vegetables and protein. Curry was decent comparable to canned curry.
As authentic as it gets! Food made me feel like I was back in Thailand! Delicious!
Curry fried rice was exceptional and the chef was a real sweetheart. It was our first time here, but everyone’s plates looked and smelled great
Great food at real nice price.
Excellent food -- always fresh and flavorful, and the spicy fried rice is fantastic!
Where do I even begin… This place is by far the best Thai that I have had in Portland and honestly maybe anywhere.. My favorite fried rice was in Corvallis at a place called Tar N Tip. I tried for years trying to find a better or even comparable fried rice, and I could never find it.. Until now!!
The flavor is perfect, the rice isn’t sticky, perfect amount of vegetables to rice, every piece of rice is independent of the next grain of rice, it’s not too oily but it’s oily enough that isn’t not dry. Everything was cooked to perfection!! I am beyond impressed.
I can say that the fried rice at Sawasdee is the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve been searching for a long time! I will be coming back as much as possible! I have to try one of everything 😃😃
We've been working in the neighborhood and have eaten from here 5 or 6 times. Dang is a nice gal and a great cook. Im an eater, nice portions.
My new favorite NW Thai spot! Delicious, fast and authentic. So much better than anything else in the NW, and I’ve tried them all. So glad to have found this little gem!
The lady, from Thailand, I believe, was very, very nice. She helped me out when she didn't have to, and I was very grateful for that. You don't find that too often, nowadays. I'd give her 6 stars if I could. The food and Thai iced tea was really awesome, also.
Loved it spicy. Maybe next time I'd ask for spicy +, I just really like spicy.
Classic Thai joint. Peanut sauce is good and food is good
Decent
Great service and pretty good food
Very tasty lunch, glad that they are making it through the pandemic. Their "house special" is the best street cart curry I have had in downtown.
Favorite pad Thai in Portland area!
Easily my favorite Thai lunch spot in Portland. Wide range of dishes that are delicious and come out of the kitchen fast. Their Red Curry is perfectly warming for a cold rainy day and the banana cakes are tasty warm dessert/snack. A really lovely family runs the cart and always remembers how I like my order. Always happy to support them multiple times a week while getting great food that gets me through my work day.
Great place,y long time favourite, have outside seating which makes it perfect for current times :)
Food is awesome and employees are very sweet
Stopped by during my walk the other day. Wonderful lady with great food and great atmosphere. I spend a lot of time in Thailand every year and I’m always struggling to find authentic food. If food was fresh, hot, and authentic southern Thai cuisine. Will definitely be back.
Our favorite Thai food truck to get delicious vegan pad Thai & vegan egg rolls! The owner is so sweet and helpful. Everything is also very affordable!
Absolutely the best pad thai in Portland. The service is always great. I can't recommend Sawasdee Thai enough. If you are in NW Portland, make sure to plan a stop here and bring a big appetite!
Very good Thai food. Great value for the prices. Great location in a residential neighborhood. Everything on the menu is good. The employees are friendly and remember their regular customers.
The food here is fantastic and always super fast even when there's a line standing out on the sidewalk. I always end up getting the pad thai with pork at medium spicy, but that's just on the edge of being too spicy for me so I order a cup of peanut sauce on the side to tame it down a bit. The portion sizes are large enough that they could be cut in half for a single meal; that said, pricing is on par for this neighborhood, about $10-$13 per meal.
One time I grabbed my order and immediately dropped my cup of peanut sauce on the group. The guy at the counter was nice enough to hand me another free of charge - very much appreciated!
Good food, pretty quick
Guys, I love this place. Like REALLY love it. Not only is the food delicious but the people are so very nice! I work right down the street so I pass/smell it everyday and it takes some serious will power to not go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I highly recommend this place and if you haven't already, stop by! You won't regret it!!
Everytime I get food here it is excellent. Curry fried rice is amazing so much flavor. Fair price super tasty!!!
Delicious food prepared fast. The salad rolls are delicious too.
This place is so good. Every time I have gone it has been consistently delicious. The spicy levels are great! And I never have to wait very long for food even if there was a long line.
Very bad taste today. The quality and the quantity is getting degraded. Today is the last day to go to this sawasdee Thai food cart.
Good street food option. Best for people looking for quick food
Stopped by this food cart on the 4th of July. We didnt really have any other options. Almost everything else was closed for the 4th around this area. Ended up being a very pleasant experience. We got a lot of food for a very fair price. It came out very quickly, so we where not waiting long. My only complaint is our appetizers, both the egg rolls and the wontons where overdone. I think she may have left them in the fryer to long while she made the rest of our food. Will be back for another main dish though.
Thank you sawasdee you are the best part of my day every week. I enjoy the well executed simple menu that is consistent and delicious every time. The staff is awesome and the chef is passionate yet adorable.
Always good fast food
Good food. Busy and popular during lunch. A bit greasy, but good taste.
I eat here at least twice a week. Awesome food.
Quick, easy and never has a bad wait. Prices are very fair and located In a cool little place.
The iced coffee is worth it alone!
I love this place. I walk here from work everyday and the food is always excellent and the people are always nice. The house Curry and cashew chicken are particularly good. Also the salad rolls and Thai tea.
Good Thai from street car
Fast, fresh and tasty Thai. A little much in cooking oil usage but offer brown rice..not every Thai cart does brown rice. Price is fair not great but fair for portion.
Good food, super fast
Lowering to 4-star as the girl that's usually taking your order is rude and often talks over/past you. We're not numbers, we're people!
Previous review: Easy menu let's you create exactly what you want. For me that's vegan and spicy which they do very well. Fairly quick unless they get overwhelmed, and occasionally the order taker makes you feel rushed depending on their seniority.
