shabashabu is a family owned restaurant established in year 2002 by husband and wife Sushi Chef Charles Tirada and Thai Chef Nana Tirada. We served Authentic Thai and Japanese cuisine and sushi created by couple chef owner.
We received more than 30 awards in the past such as Best Thai, Best Japanese, Best Ethic Restaurant, Best Sushi, Best Soup etc.
Chef Charles and Nana always have a dream to have the coffee shop in their restaurant and finally BLACK IVORY CAFE (https://www.blkivory.com/) was open in year 2022. BLACK IVORY served famous Asian breakfast such as CHOK (famous rice porridge sheet food in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and others Asia country), NANA CHICKEN AND WAFFLE (Japanese style waffle with chicken breast Katsu fried), etc
Definitely coming back. Our favorite part was the appetizers! Loved the seaweed salad, chicken harumaki, gyoza and chicken satay. I would definitely reorder them all again!!! That's how good they were. Next time I'm ordering some more appetizers to make sure I try them all.
We weren't very happy with the sushi though.
We ordered the spicy tuna rolls and it wasn't very good. The sweet potato roll was ok but I don't think I would order it again. The Alaska roll I wouldn't recommend it at all. I didn't taste the basil at all and it was just simply meh and finally the Geisha roll. This one was the best one in my opinion. I liked that they had a big variety of veggie rolls. I'm excited to try them all on my future visits. We are happy we found this place!
We went there around 5:00pm on a Wednesday and the place was empty which I liked. :D
This is a great spot for good food and good sushi with family and friends. My family and I stopped by this restaurant after church on Sunday for some lunch. It was fairly empty so we had no issues getting a seat right away and getting our food on time.
There is an option of booth or regular seating. It has a modern set up which created a nice atmosphere for dining. I really liked how the menu is set up where sushi rolls are buy one get one free and dinner is available and served all day every day.
Our server was professional and greeted us with pleasantries. We ordered soup, entrées, and sushi. All items came out in a timely manner. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. One of the sushi rolls ordered was supposed to be spicy but there was no real spiciness to it; nevertheless, it tasted really good despite that.
We enjoyed our visit and would visit again.
We have been here before and have come for both dinner and lunch. The BOGO deal is worth it and we tried several sushi rolls with my favorite being the dynamite roll so far. Service and atmosphere are great. Unfortunately didn't take pics as we ate so quickly. Recommend coming here!
Fantastic thai food, value for money with great service
Would come to this place frequently but honestly will never go back. Worst customer service from front of house (white male, long hair and beard) I’ve ever experienced after he gave my food to the wrong person and did not apologize or let me know it was being remade. Took an hour for 2 sushi rolls to be made.
Delicious food, good prices, excellent service. Highly recommend.
Slow service, food was good, terrible afternoon glare facing window, they need some blinds.

Maybe the best Thai food I've had in the 5 states I've lived in or the remaining that I have traveled authentic spices v balanced flavors. Reinstated my faith in 'good' Thai food. Service was v friendly, and prices were just rt!

Delicious food and amazing service. Lunch specials and half price sushi rolls. A wonderful value for the money. Tom Ka soup is delicious, and shrimp salad is something I crave. Everything I've tried, I've enjoyed.
One of my fav places when I come back to NC, nice variety and great service!
Clean, nice ambiance, and the service and food are always great
DO NOT EAT HERE . THEY LIED AND SAID THEY DONT TAKE CASHAPP THEN MADE ME USE MY BANK CARD AND I WAS CHARGED ON BOTH. THEYBTOOD ME THEY CANT HELP ME AND LIED ABOUT TRYING TO HANDLE IT .
Dine in and Take out experience is night and day. If you decide to take out..... check your food to ensure the quantity and quality is what you should receive. As for me, they have lost a customer as I have been here several times before. I will be sure to comment on every social media platform what my experience was. First, the menu vs. what you actually receive. They will omit or add to menu items as they choose, For example, The Japanese Fried Rice did not have the cilantro or green onions as the menu suggests but they added broccoli. My food was thrown together and the veggies main meal was not even cooked thoroughly. they were raw. When I spoke to the manager, he snatched the bags and indicated he would have the kitchen re-make the dishes. This happened twice and the main dish came out the exact same. After 30 minutes of sitting while they play in the kitchen with the same food. I opted for a full refund. The "manager" snatched all my bags including one with my wallet. He then had another staff member process my refund. I asked if this is the standard "customer service." He did not care, he was very dismissive and kept walking away as I tried to speak with him. He stated he was "busy", he also stated he has been in the business for 22 years. What does that have to do with proper customer service relations. Had I've been another gender or race, maybe the experience would not have been the same or maybe it would have, just read other reviews. If you are taking the same food back and forth to the kitchen do you think I will feel safe and even want to eat it??? I will gladly spend my hard earned dollars elsewhere. PS: They charge .75 plus tax for soy sauce even though you are purchasing a $17.50 fried rice with protein???Ridiculous....Buyer Beware
This does not disappoint with the food and service.
Food was pretty good (nice portions and flavors) but our service was pretty lackluster. The server was nice but not very attentive.
The food was good but very pricy for small amounts of food. The atmosphere was lame (not very clean either). My kids and I used the restroom before leaving and the stalls are so narrow and small that you have to squeeze next to the toilet to open and close it (even my kids!) Our server was subpar. He didn’t write our order down so we didn’t get a few of the things we ordered. He would also disappear or have his back turned while hanging out with another employee at the front entrance. We will not visit this restaurant again and don’t recommend it to anyone. I gave 3 stars because the food was good but that’s it.
recently visited Shabu Shabu and was thoroughly disappointed. They have increased the prices and even they were charging for chilli paste. If you are more than 6 people, you better go somewhere and get the food on time. Sometimes, they will not accommodate more than 6 people without a reservation. The manager has no customer service experience.
Overall, the lack of attention to both food quality and customer service made for a frustrating experience. I won’t be returning. Please avoid this restaurant!!
First time having dinner here and it was really good. Me and my husband ordered two top shelf long islands, and when the drinks arrived. I was not pleased! The drinks were dark as if I just ordered a coke! I sent the drinks back and ordered two new drinks off the menu. We waited 30 mins before asking where are the replacement drinks. The waiter came over and said that the fill in bartender refused to make new drinks. The waiter also informed us that the bartender was a fill in and doesn't make drinks. I was very upset!!! Not about the drinks but the level of miscommunication!! That was my first and last time coming!! I'm a bartender and have never experienced service like I did on 10/27/2024! You apologize for mixing the wrong drink and recreate something else that you can make to please your customers!
Fantastic food. Great value, and every employee genuinely cares. My go-to sushi place.
Thanks Peter, price, Matt, Matt, amber!
Chicken Pad Thai noodles good. Red curry with chicken good too; 2nd favorite of the places I’ve had it in Raleigh.
Friendly fast service. Great food. My go to sushi spot when I'm in Raleigh
Excellent little lunch place in Raleigh. Red Curry Chicken and Thai Iced Tea were excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Only minus would be that the tables felt a little cramped as set up currently, but still 5* for food and service aspects.
I got sushi as part of their BOGO deal and it was great and I also got their Thai iced tea and I love it! I would totally come again. I totally forgot to take pictures :(
I’ve ate at this place a few times and the owner is very kind and I’ve had ok experiences. However, on my most recent visit I ordered a curry soup and there was a dead worm/maggot in my soup, right on top. Floating like it was on vacation in my food. The owner never came to our table to address it I had to approach him about it. He said they were short staffed and they must have not been paying attention. That’s a really big deal, I could’ve gotten sick. That means the produce wasn’t correctly prepped/washed before serving it to me. I am so scared to eat out now because I don’t know what is or isn’t happening in the kitchen. I didn’t want to post this bc the owner is nice but this was a horrible food and customer service experience. & we still had to pay $70 for our food.
Great fresh food, nice atmosphere, and good service.
Beware on buy one get one sushi!!!’ Went today for sushi with a friend. Bill came to $36. Fair enough. Left and 18%tip even though service wasn’t great. Looked at receipt afterwards and tots cost $48!!! They charge the tip on the total cost of the sushi INCLUDING the rolls you got for free. Total scam. I spoke to the waitress about it and she said she never tells the customer they do that. Won’t be returning.
Service is super friendly and helpful. Food was decent - have had better, have had worse. Love a BOGO sushi deal though.
We went for lunch at around 3pm. It has a very nice ambience. Menu has very good no of Vegetarian options. Ordered Veg Red curry, chicken pad thai and shrimp platter for main course. Ordered ice cream tempura and coconut cake for desert. Everyone ( kids, me and DH) loved Red curry, It had perfect balance of spicy, sweet and tangy. Portion of red curry is good which 2 people can easily share but rice portion that come with curry is very small. It is not enough for a single person.
Pad thai was on sweeter side. Kids loved Shrimp platter. Coconut cake was average/ decent and icecream tempura was not so good. Highly recommed this place for thai cuisine. Will visit again
Love their sushi BOGO Fuji rolls are delicious. And don't forget the coconut cake with chocolate drizzle for dessert 😋!!
A very nice place for a unique breakfast
The food is delicious! The waiters are all nice. I like the darker lighting, it feels calm yet romantic. Dinners here feel fancy, yet you are not spending a lot of money.
The food was very good, the sushi was excellent and at an affordable price. I'll be going back again .
The main menu is fantastic, much better than the lunch specials.
Great Sushi and great service love their bogo!
Went for dinner today and ordered the steak teriyaki & spicy tuna sushi roll. The sushi was extremely small and looked terrible and the vegetables in the teriyaki plate were crunchy and overall very bad. We kindly asked for the manager to possibly discuss trying a different menu item and he was extremely rude and asked us “well what do you expect then?” when we said it just simply wasn’t what we were expecting. The server was sweet but the manager was terrible! The 84.5 food rating also is another major red flag here.
We stayed in Raleigh while visiting family. We are from Orlando, Florida. After trying out a ton of fun bbq places and biscuit places, we decided it was my turn to choose. I always go for the Asian option. We searched through google and decided on Shabu Shabu. It seemed similar to most places in Orlando as far as atmosphere and we didn’t see a problem in going for a regular lunch with our two kids. Unfortunately, right as we walked in, we were greeted with a very apprehensive host that stared at us as if we were aliens for bringing our children. It still didn’t seem that fancy in there to me, so I shrugged it off and followed him to our table. As we followed, the lady waitress literally gave us a dirty look and I realized oh… they think their restaurant is too fancy for our kids. I chuckled a little, because this place didn’t come close to what they were comparing themselves to in Orlando. Thankfully, our waiter (the only actual Asian person in the restaurant) was the most pleasant older man we had encountered. He was calm and understanding about our children. He made great suggestions for what they might enjoy since there was not a kids menu (which was perfectly fine). We decided on the teriyaki chicken with fried rice and veggies for our boys to share. It was delicious and more than enough food for the price. My husband and I decided to share an appetizer and we ordered four sushi rolls off their BOGO menu. The appetizer was delicious, but the sushi was just average. The yellowtail did not taste fresh. Overall, though, we enjoyed the food and our waiter really made up for our awkward welcome as we entered. We left him a generous cash tip that we really hoped he did not have to share with anyone. Something really odd that we noticed was that we were seated in a back corner of the restaurant away from others although we could still see everything. The host and the other waitress were attending to the front of the restaurant while our waiter had our table and maybe one other. The host was very helpful to the waitress as she had many tables. He would refill waters and bring food plates out as well, but our table was given odd looks by him and we were completely ignored. We definitely could tell we were not really welcomed. Our waiter did it all for us, took our order, made suggestions, brought our food and refilled our waters. He was great! I wish I could remember his name. He complimented us at the end for having very well behaved children who eat well too. I think that if you eliminate the workers who thought their restaurant deserved some sort of Michelin star, this place was actually really good for the price. It was no fancy Orlando place that my husband and I save for date night though. We knew it wouldn’t be just based off of the menu alone, so I’m still unsure as to why we were treated that way by the others. I will say this, Raleigh seemed very different from the last time we were there visiting. The separations between socioeconomic groups was way more obvious and we weren’t treated very nicely at a Trader Joe’s either which is a regular place we shop at with our kids in Orlando too, so we just assumed people’s higher than though attitudes in that area is because they are proud they have nice things even though those are more like average things for us in Orlando. 🤷♀️
First time dining there, we really enjoyed the service and the food!
Wife and I went here for dinner and got the special which was shrimp. The shrimp was good, fried lightly and crunchy, but not very hot. Meal came with a salad which was a good sized portion. We had the thom kha soup which was pretty yummy and also a good size. You can add it to your entree for only $2. We got the Thai appetizer sampler which was a joke. The menu says it comes with 2 each of 3 different items (two kinds of spring rolls and a samosa type item). The spring rolls were just 1 roll cut in half, so not really 2 pieces and were small. The samosa type item was a miniature bite sized creation. Good, but not worth the money. Service was good and quick.
It is not acceptable for the managers to yell at the customers period and definitely not in front of others for a mistake! Please rectify this Shaba Shaba! My husband was working as a dasher trying to pick up the food.
SHAM! Don’t use their tip percentage button! Bill was $123. I hit 20% and it charged $40 for the tip! The manager said he would have to charge us again for the whole ticket to pay the correct tip and the previous charge would not be refunded until next week.
It's not easy to offer. Really good food of any type at a fair price with decent service. However, shower shabu has accomplished this and I find their Asian cuisine to be way above average. Highly recommend.
Always enjoy my easy takeout dinners from here!!
High quality sushi and great dining experience in a small spot.
I’ve dined at Shabbat Shabu several times with friends at lunch and always found the food very tasty, well prepared, and equally well served. Clean. Nice staff.
Sometimes the quality of the food is great and the sushi can be in great quality and quantity, but other times is just.. not what it used to be
Amazing food and service! Elegant but cozy. Can’t wait to go again!!!
The waitress was great. She made all the great great suggestions was pumped out the dishes one after the other way had a big group. Unfortunately I cannot remember her name. But we were there with five people in the back; manager came over and engaged our table. The food was absolutely fantastic. … as was the atmosphere the drinks. We had so many different types of dishes. I live in Spain so I can’t go back and remember everything but I just wanted to make sure that I put a plug-in for the restaurant the food, the waitress, and the whole staff who came together to make everything funny and fun with my older relatives and younger ones.
Unless you want a dish doused in sugar, don’t order the Pad Thai. It was just a mouth full of soupy cloying sweet. When I when the server asked me how I liked it, I told her the truth. Instead of offering to get me something different, she suggested that next time I order it with a lot of spice so it drowns out the sugar taste. Uh.. unbelievable.
We got the hottest spice level and it was like 1/12 of a seedless jalapeno. It's not even close to eye chili levels of heat. Like the pad Thai at Thai hot was like sweet even. The massaman at Thai hot was like I recognize they made an attempt hot. But our server was superrrrrr nice and the boba works so hey, knock yourself out, right? The tom kha soup was mid too. Overall, just don't expect much food taste wise.
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Raleigh. The staff is truly exceptional. The manager always has a personal touch and he knows exactly what you want. They remember the faces of the people that come, and they always make customers feel like they’re at home.
The atmosphere is elegant but relaxed and it’s easy to make this place an instant fav. I started going to this restaurant over 15 years ago and there is a time where I’m in Raleigh where I don’t go back.
I had just about everything on the menu, and my favorites are the buy one get one Sushi. Any of them will be amazing. My favorite dishes are the Thai basil fried rice, pineapple fried rice, massaman curry, and the vegetarian sushi rolls!
Shrimp in my fresh rolls were NOT deveined. Pad Thai was thick, very sticky and disgustingly sweet. Wait staff was good. I will not go back due to the disappointing food.
Service was great. Sushi and teriyaki chicken was very good. Lemon drops 👌🏽
My absolute favorite Thai restaurant--anywhere! The Samui Seafood with the Japanese fried rice is to die for. Pad Thai is amazing. Thai basil is amazing. Fried ice cream is soooo good. Drinks are great, sushi is fresh and BOGO everyday! If you like Thai food, Japanese food, sushi...THIS is the spot for you!
Loved the decor! Food choices were excellent, outstanding presentation. Reasonably priced!
Really delicious food and very friendly staff. Definitely recommend!
It's always amazing!
Went for lunch and it was delicious!!! I am picky when it comes to sushi, but everything is customizable. Our server was fantastic, very attentive, informative & kind. Will be back!!
Yucky 🤮 🤮 🤮.
Excellent food and service
The smallest serving of soup ,1 pint, for $8. Plus an appetizer sampler of 2 pieces EACH of 3 items (according to menu) should be 6 pieces, not 4! Including rolls that were no bigger around than your finger, for $9 is gouging prices.
Best green curry I've ever had! We make a trip from Garner at least once a week. The staff is always wonderful and the food never disappoints!
I went to Shaba Shabu to pick up dinner tonight, like a do at least a few times a month, and to save time I ordered ahead. When I got there to pick up my order there was a young lady trying to help a customer who had been charged erroneously (an issue I have also had at this restaurant in recent weeks) and as we waited for them to attempt to correct that issue, myself and multiple others waiting were watching our food while sit on a table getting cold!!
After at least 5 minutes of no progress, she went and got the “IT guy” to come and try to help her. After another 5 minutes, I asked if there was another person to get me my food as it had been 30 minutes since I ordered (told it would be ready in 20 mins, so that’s when I showed up, then stood there for 10 mins waiting). I was addressed by a VERY rude employee with a BAD attitude and told it would only be a few (more) minutes and to continue to wait.
There was no apology for the wait or his poor customer service, so needless to say, I will no longer be giving my money to a restaurant that employees people with no customer service skills and doesn’t know how to treat their customers!!!
Note: This employee was working on the cafe’ side not in the actual restaurant; there was no line in the restaurant and two people standing at the restaurant counter available to help the waiting customers but couldn't because we were required to pick out food on the cafe's side. This is supposed to be a better and quicker process on busy days, but it clearly is not effective
Everything about this place was authentic and that's what we love. The red curry was amazing, I had it with broccoli instead of peppers and they make it to order. Service was fast, friendly and the bill was even better. It was very reasonable. The atmosphere tied in perfectly. Everything we look for in a restaurant. We will be back if we're ever in the area again
Took the family to eat lunch on Saturday. Food is very mediocre and we dealt with it until we found a long hair wrapped in the sushi roll. Also, be prepared to drink your beverage out of candle holders.
I ordered pineapple fried rice and a panang curry.
Sadly the pineapple fried rice had NO PINEAPPLE. Which was super disappointing. The rice was still really good and flavorful, but it was kind of ridiculous that there was no pineapple in a pineapple fried rice dish.
A smaller complaint was that the side of plain white rice given with the curry was hardly a cups worth of rice. Again, the curry was delicious, but the rice given was barely anything and not at all proportional to how much curry was given (which was a lot!)
I’d try here again to see if this was just a fluke since the food was really good. Hopefully they are a little more attentive in the future!
Giving this 2 stars because we usually have a good experience here and most of the food was good. But I did get food poisoning from the smoked salmon basil cheese roll, so I think it'll be quite a while before/if we go back.
The environment is perfect for a midday meal. It is a casual setting, but everything from the presentation to the staff is more like what you would see in a fine dining restaurant. The food is inexpensive, but is filling, delicious, and presented nicely. You can sense that the entire staff takes pride in what they are doing. The beef basil is a spicy Thai dish that I have always loved and I definitely recommend trying it. Keep in mind that Asian people have the highest tolerance for spice of all ethnic backgrounds, so be wary when selecting the spice level as it does seem to be more skewed towards their pallets. The medium will be hot for people like me.
Excellent value, delicious food at very reasonable price...especially for lunch
About a month and a half ago my wife and I ate here before going food shopping at Trader Joe’s. We found the food to be absolutely delicious, our service was great, and we were excited to return last night. Fast forward to last night, we arrived placed our order, and there started the night of absolute letdown. Firstly, the soups we ordered as appetizers came to the table cold. They did take them back, but just microwaved them and brought them back in about a minute and a half, still barely warm. Secondly, we had ordered the chicken satay and there was absolutely no salt added whatsoever. They were extremely bland. Thirdly, our sushi was an absolute letdown. Like I said, last visit, everything was great, this visit the sushi had no flavor. We had also asked for low sodium soy sauce, and when they brought it to the table, you could tell that it was watered down, not just the normal low sodium soy sauce. I’m not sure what happened in the month between our visits, but we will not be returning.
The Thai dish we got was excellent. The sushi was good, but the other reviews are correct it is a lot more rice than many other places. This is a little detail, but the chairs are really hard, no cushion to them. That was surprising. I'd go again and try different rolls for variety.
Excellent food and great atmosphere ... highly recommend!!
I’m really confused about how this place has so many decent reviews. We got a variety of sushi rolls, soup, and dumplings for takeout and we both had to stop eating because we thought we were gonna be sick. The rolls smelled like stinky feet. The soup tasted like straight salt. All of this for $80. I’m just glad we didn’t get food poisoning!
I've been going here for many years now. Everyone who knows me, knows my favorite food is their red chicken curry. It is the ultimate comfort food. They also have great pad thai and sushi. Something for everyone here. I've never had something I didn't like. Oh, if you're craving something sweet, definitely try their fabulous coconut cake!
I was a fan of their deep-fried rolls, so I used to overlook their shortcomings. However, the rudeness of the owner/manager
finally drove me away. Standing at the counter waiting to be greeted for 5 minutes until the manager walked straight past me to welcome someone just coming through the door. Although the other customer acknowledged that I was there first, he continued to serve him, and when I complained, he just shrugged as if he couldn't care less. The bathrooms are generally cleaner than a truck stop. They boast having native culinary experts, native North Carolinians, maybe. Cleanliness of the dining room also leaves a lot to be desired, but they could at least dust the awards they are so proud of from circa 2004.
Our food was cold. We were served after one and a half hours. We had a reservation for 6 pm and were seated at 6 but had to repeatedly ask another server about our order. That came to our table at 7:30 pm. Everyone around us who came in after us had been served and done with dinner. The service was terrible!
Food was not good, period. Was hopeful, but very disappointing. Will not go again. Worst Thai food I’ve had in Raleigh.
The gentleman in the purple tie was AMAZING! Very helpful and kind!! So was the young lady.
I did an online order, but went in and added to my order with no issues. Talked on the phone and ended up ordering more food for a friend. Both of the orders didn't take too too long. I'll definitely be back! I know what not to order and what to order (thanks to my girl who had me order for her!! LOL
I want to try the chocolate mousse && green tea ice cream. Until next time. 🙂
The red chicken curry(get it on Monday) and sushi is exceptional. Great staff and has been a model of consistency for a decade.
Love the chicken teriyaki!
Food was great 👍🏼
Strange atmosphere. We went here for the hot pot experience as described but they don’t do hot pot. The sushi was ok. Nice that it was BOGO. We went on a Saturday so bottles of wine were half off. We tried the sautéed edamame. Taste great but sloppy and difficult to eat with your fingers or a utensil. I recommend bringing your own wooden chopsticks. They have metal chopsticks which are slippery and theirs are quite a bit heavier so not the best for novices. I mean it. The chopsticks are notably heavier.
Do not get sushi here. I was looking forward to some Monday sushi after a long day. I decided to try this spot because I thought the rolls sounded interesting. Not only did I pay premium sushi prices for A TON of rice, I barely got any fish or lobster. I was appalled. I ordered a spider roll and the softshell crab was NOT CRISPY or flavorful. The eel roll was actually just cucumber and rice. There was no eel or even eel sauce. I mean really? I also got the premium roll with lobster.... I want my money back. It was all batter, no lobster, and topped with fake crab that just fell off. Everything was rolled poorly and came with heaps of rice.
Seriously, I will never go back here and I encourage you all to save your money if you want good sushi. I could have paid the same money at Waraji, and would have been so much happier.
ShabaShabu has a trendy setting with a lounge and the entire vibe of the place was pleasant including the quality silverware. We started with the Japanese sampler appetizer, which included fried gyoza, fried ebi shumai & fried chicken harumaki. All of them were crispy and flavorful and their in-house mustard sauce was outstanding. It was followed by Shabu and Hokkaido rolls which were fresh and delicious, Japanese fried rice was a little oily though. After reading other reviews about the coconut cake we had to order one…It was moist and not overly sweet but I could have skipped it and still enjoyed our meal. For drinks we had Mango mojito, which was perfect refreshing drink and Thai coffee. Overall a great experience & we will be back to try other items on the menu. Highly recommend for extraordinary service & sushi.
Food was just all right. Service wasn't great. Atmosphere was good.
As for the pineapple fried rice, the vegetables were very crunchy and undercooked and there was no browning of the rice at all.
Sushi was meh. Ordered rolls with raw fish and lobster, yet neither were in the rolls?
There are much better places to get better quality food for the equivalent price and better service. Waitress was rude!
My daughter and I ordered a tiger tear salad. The beef was inedible. Service was horrible. Will not be back
Excellent service and food... authentic Japanese food!!! (From a couple that lived in Tokyo for four years!)
We went to go celebrate my daughter’s birthday and the place was lovely , Pedro the manager he did our reservation and he was so kind , the service was so good , they were so sweet and had so much patience , the food was so delicious the price was great , Alice and Alex were such good waiters. We really recommend this place!!
Food was good. Server not friendly. He was our server last two times and he’s always having a bad day. If you go with a couple ppl to get the BOGO sushi rolls you have to be on one check and they will not separate order. Must be paid all as one check. They have Japanese food but do t have white sauce. They do have spicy mayo (not spicy) you get a small cup with appropriate 2 tablespoons in it. Each dish is $3 extra. Ridiculous cost add on. Host that seated us was equally unfriendly as waiter. Taste of food was good but was it worth extra silly charges and atmosphere probably not. Twice same experience no need to go for a third time. Not really kid friendly. No kids menu at all.
General Manager Peter took my order and became upset and sucked his teeth when I called back immediately to change my order once I realized they were doing BOGO. I am very big on customer service even more surprised to discover that the person I was working with in the phone was actually the manager. First and last time I will order from here. I would have asked for a refund but did not confirm the person I was speaking to was the manager until arriving in person. I hope people will realize the value of service and customer interactions. I was not rude or difficult but it appears he was frustrated at a bust time. I am reasonable and would have accepted an apology but not a justification for being rude to a paying customer.
Ordered sushi, spring rolls, and pad thai. The sushi was the approximate size of a penny (maybe a nickel) and cut extremely unevenly. Taste was subpar — expect the least amount of fish possible. Absolutely bland and NOT worth the 16 dollars I spent on two rolls. The spring rolls were unevenly filled and both ripped in multiple places. Had to eat with a fork. Pad thai didn’t taste the way that pad thai should.
Save your money. Go literally ANYWHERE else.
Food and service was very good. I have been here twice for a staff lunch. We would definitely go again.
Great food and service. Had to do a quick lunch and they accommodated.
0 stars. I was visiting from out of town and was highly disappointed. I was the only customer in the resturant and order red curry shrimp. The waitress bought me a glass of water and took my order and never returned. I waited for 30 mins and recieved no service or food. When I got up to look for somebody to update me on the status of my meal I couldn't find anybody so I just left. Service is horrible and cant give a review on the food cause I never received it.
Sushi quality is really poor. No fresh flavor. Pad Thai is only good dish and it's mediocre. Othernoodle dishes just don't cone together either. Nice service and pricing but not tasty.
The Japanese salad and Thai salad were watery. The sushi was SO overpriced. Bogo barely worth it. Pieces of fish about the size of a dime. We had Fish Lover roll and Spider roll.
Ingredients that make rolls pop were scarce (masago) or missing (seeds). Service a bit slow. Host was great. I want to know what Loyal Lioness ordered. That food looks great, but nothing like what I received. Will not be dining here again.
Food wasn't very good, service was mediocre and the atmosphere wasn't appealing.
Loved food, ambience & service!!!
Great dine in place!
It’s ok, been here twice and don’t think I’ll come back. Service is typically very slow as well, just not worth the wait imo.
Picking up orders from here is not fast or efficient. The least the staff can do after a 25 minute wait is bag all items of the order together rather than handing the bag to the customer for bagging themselves.
Had a life saver cocktail. Was absolutely amazing, sweet and a little bit sour! I 100% reccomend doing the bogo sushi, forgot to take a pic before we ate but it was absolutely fresh and delicious! The decor was cool too, lots of pottery pots that looked the same? I wanted to paint them... bathrooms were upscale and it was affordable at the same time.
Food was pretty good, our server was pretty rude which threw us for a loop.
I wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was nice, the staff was very friendly and fast. But food, disappointing and overpriced. You think for the price the quality would measure up. But it falls way short. Sushi was stale, ginger seemed dried. Salad was ok. Tom kha soup felt like the chef just threw raw ingredients in hot broth. I hope the owner reads this and improves the food quality, as it is a really nice spot. Until then I will not return or recommend.
Excellent food, service, and wine. I can't understand why it was so warm inside though....uncomfortably warm, and that was before the delicious soup came. Other than that, excellent!
My sister n love stopped in. My 1st time and was very excited to try. Had seen another person posting their meals. It always looked really good.
Atmosphere is very nice. Our waiter was great and attentive.
I thought the food was delicious and on point 😋. Just the right amount of spice. I ordered the Veggies stir fry basil with tofu. My ride and live ordered the same with chicken and she thought hers was too spicy. But she kept eating and took the rest home.
We love ShabuShabu! Their prices are very reasonable (especially the lunch specials), portions quite generous, and the food is delicious. Our favorite us the Cashew Chicken.
After coming home from ~7 months in Thailand, this was our first Thai dish in America... while it is delicious it didn't taste like what we had in Thailand so it was hard to wrap our brains around. Nice restaurant though!
All around good sushi! The shrimp tempura roll was great. The Thai iced tea is also pretty good. Service is a little slow, and bathrooms were pretty dirty every time I’ve gone. Other than that, good place!
Love this place. Great sushi and entrees, haven't had anything I didn't like. Their fried gyoza is killer and their shrimp tempura meal was a very large serving. They did a great job frying their tempura and keeping it crispy. Service is always super quick and friendly.
We came here to celebrate my son 11th bday! Sushi was good for the most part. Some of the dishes took forever to come out so my friend ended up canceling her dishes. The waiter forgot all about the other dishes. When it was time to split the bill, they couldn’t dived the sushi which it made it difficult to pay. My friend also didn’t get her $2 off her cocktail as she should have because of their special. We asked for the manager and he came to our table very aggressively and rude! He made the situation worse so why is he even the manager! He definitely needs training on customer service and I don’t mind training him for free! His whole attitude was uncalled for since we spent close to $250 in the restaurant!!!! We will definitely find a new place to eat sushi.
We (me, my husband, and 3yr old daughter) were greeted right at the door with a smile and were sat right away. Once sat our waitress took our order, brought our water and that was the last we saw of her for the 45 minutes. She came back to bring our appetizer; when we asked for a refill she seemed almost annoyed that we asked. Proceeding with the refill she left without saying a word. Then we didn’t see her again for another 15 minutes until we got our food. We finish our dinner and continue to sit waiting for our waitress. After waiting a prolonged time for her we finally flag her down for some boxes which she retrieves and brings back to us then leaves once again without a word. After waiting 10 more minutes we catch a different waiter who then brings us our tab. This is one of, if not the worse, service at a restaurant I have experienced.
Was missing one of my soups and warm sushi. Sadly not what it use to be.
best sushi place everrrr :3 i go especially for the sushi BOGO
Love the cooked sushi and friendly staff
The waiters are nice the food is good the tea 10 stars
You can't go wrong with "buy one, get one" sushi! You just can't! Shaba Shabu has a lot of classics, among which the beef basil, Japanese chicken fried rice, and veggie basil entrees are my absolute favorites! Yum! There is a notable buzz of talk and laughter, which makes the space warm and inviting any time of day during open hours. Peter is an amazing gentleman who greets everyone with enthusiasm and is always circulating to ensure everything is well taken care of. You won't be disappointed; just come here!
Fantastic food! Great menu! Can't wait to order again!
The food was delicious. I ordered the pad Thai, which was good when it came out. Does not reheat well.
One of my favorites, I had the grilled mahi.
Sushi was just not good. Rice was soggy. Fish was okay quality. Just nothing special here.
Seems like they are remodeling which doesn't make a pleasant experience. Sushi was just OK. Best thing about it was the buy one get one free offer. Probably won't go back.
The crab lover roll is my official favorite!
The best sushi I have had in ages!!! We got the Volcano and Okinawa rolls and they were so fresh and so yummy. The BOGO sushi deal is so great by the way!
Also, the Thai Basil with Beef was the greatest quality I've ever had.
Price was a wonderful server and we loved his mustache!
I ordered pad kee Mao, and my wife ordered some tom kha soup and sushi. All were delicious. The Thai iced tea was a bit sweet but otherwise not bad. The metal chopsticks had serious heft to them - if you ever need to confront an evil martial arts master and want weapons, this is also the place to go.
The boba is amazing, I recommend it to anyone who really likes boba
This place was very underwhelming, the service is extremely slow. The food was just ok. Definitely not a place to take someone on a date. We waited so long for our food that honestly I was past hungry and went right into starving to death. It’s not the waitresses fault I’m sure it’s the kitchen staff. Avoid this spot the curry is bland and the glass were was dirty. I gave it two stares because it did have food and it didn’t get me sick.
If you enjoy Thai (or Japanese) food, don’t sleep on ShabuShabu! We do a mix every time we go: Japanese house salad (the dressing is addicting!), gyoza (perfectly made with a great dipping sauce), and the Thai red curry with chicken. I can’t get enough!
I highly recommend this place, good Asian cuisine! I only got to take pics of the dessert because we devoured the main course instantly. We got Miso soup, Japanese beef fried rice, bogo sushi roll(flambe, volcano, hurricane, dragon). Our server was a lady, and she was really nice to us, especially to my hyper little toddler! Thank you, we had a good experience.
Was told by a couple of coworkers that I must try Shabu Shabu as their sushi is amazing and I have to agree! I arrived at lunch time, so it was pretty busy. The manager warmly greeted me and took me to my table. My waiter was a little cold and it felt like he was really rushed. He sat down my menu and asked me right away what I wanted. I told him that I needed a couple of minutes and he did not come back or even around me for like 10 minutes. Before my stomach could eat itself he reappeared and took my order. I got their bogo sushi deal; and decided to get the Wolfpack roll and Samurai roll.
The Wolfpack roll has crab, avocado, scallions, and tempura flakes. The Samurai roll had cream cheese, salmon, and scallions. Wow! They give you a generous portion of fresh sushi along with ginger and Wasabi. Everything is fresh and so worth the wait! It still stays good as I could not finish the rolls and took them with me.
I cannot wait to come back as a couple of dudes next to me had their Thai basil which came with tons of veggies! They highly recommend it as they get it every time. So I will be back!
Good service/excellant drinks/good food.we all (4) got Japanese. We would go back again.
I've been to this restaurant almost 20 times over the past 10 years, but I'm going to quit. I love the Tom Yum Soup, and they've been willing to modify the sushi ingredients, which are higher than similar restaurants. The waiters are attentive and positive, but not available frequently enough even when it is dead empty. They have adopted the hand-held credit card reader, so the last 3-4x, I left confused and upset. They come out with the total price so you never see the individual items. What if the waiter made a mistake with ringing up the order? I am an educator so a date for sushi is indulgent with my budget. I can barely afford their prices and wouldn't buy sushi without the BOGO, which is a standard in the industry so everyone already expects the cost to be adjusted. The sushi is $2-3 higher per roll than a dozen great sushi places in the Triangle. The automatic 15-20% tip buttons are based on the cost BEFORE the BOGO discount. They do not tell you this. It is deceiving and costs you an extra $5-10 beyond the 20% that you already generously calculated. A dinner for two with a drink and appetizer is easily $100 including tip. If I have to pay a servant $20 to talk to me a few seconds during the meal, then they are getting more than I earn teaching for an hour! In other words, this restaurant cares more about presentation and an illusion of high class ambiance than they do about transparency with the customer's wallet and actual value of the experience.
Ordered a Shrimp Pad thai to go. When I got it had pieces of meat. Called and they asked me to send a picture of it. Their response was that is not our food. I have been going there for years, never going back and making sure my friends and family don't go. That was insulting.
