First Thai restaurant branch in Charlotte since 1988
Came here for lunch on a busy Saturday, and got some of the best service i’ve received at any restaurant ever! We ordered Thai Tea which was the best i’ve ever had. We then ordered our food, three dishes, which were at our table literally 3 minutes after ordering, I couldn’t believe how fast they were! It was super delicious. The owner is the nicest lady ever, and she was very sweet and kind and made us feel right at home! I will definitely be coming back this was fantastic. Not to mention the portion sizes are perfect, and left me very satisfied, but not overly full. Highly recommend!
This Thai restaurant in downtown Matthews stands out with its unique and authentic menu options, far surpassing other Thai places. The food was incredibly delicious, featuring a variety of vegetarian dishes. The comforting and attentive staff made the dining experience even better. The fried rice with basil is a must try.
I placed a lunch order for my staff and my self. My order came out to almost $200. I felt I was very rushed and treated rudely by the older woman taking my order. When I picked up my food I asked for cutlery to eat with and the woman complain to me about me asking for it. She begrudgingly gave me a few but not enough to cover everyone's order. I took the food back to our office only to discover that the food I received was only partially what I ordered I don't know whose order I received besides mine. When I called back she told me I ordered the food wrong even though she confirmed everything with me that I ordered. When I told her I wanted the food that I ordered she told me that I had to order more food because I'm the one who gave myself the wrong food apparently. I recommend staying away from this establishment. We were actually sampling the food for an upcoming office event and Thai food was suggested and this is why we were trying food. I didn't know that I had to argue with a cashier about getting a plastic fork for our takeout. She actually tried to force me to tip on a takeout order. When I refused she became very disgruntled with me. I wouldn't waste your time, your money, for your energy here. The one dish that I did try we didn't know what it was because it was not something that we ordered. It was a noodle dish that was red tasted like burnt ketchup and was a huge noodle brick. It must have been prepared hours of ahead of time. Never again. I suggest treat your guests better before you lose all your business and get rid of the elderly woman taking orders. I did order mango rice and the fruit was old and very bruised.
Excellent little place to grab a quick lunch when you're out and about. They have a limited lunch menu but what they have is tasty and very reasonably priced. Our lunch included a main dish, soup, and spring rolls included in the price. It's a little loud inside when they're busy.
Once again enjoyed the lunch special at Thai Taste with a visiting friend. The food is always delicious and we had the green curry chicken. They do a nice limited lunch menu for a very reasonable price. My favorite evening meal is the fresh ginger stir fry.
Thai Taste used to be a favorite. It’s gone down hill. The food is mediocre at best. There’s very little meat. The noodles in the pad thai were over cooked and a clumpy mess. The red curry had no flavor and the beef had a strange texture. They forgot to bring us our appetizer. We won’t be back. Such a shame.
Food was good- definitely felt like we were being rushed in and out though!
Just a question: does all your pad thai have ketchup in the recipe? That is all I taste and I’ve tried it with different meat and it still tastes like ketchup.

I love everything
Love their food!
First decent Asian restaurant we have been to since we moved here.
First time here at this Thai place. Service could’ve been better. The food was brought to us and we wasn’t checked back on until we needed the check.
My favorite Thai restaurant in Charlotte! The Tom Yum soup is amazing and fresh, the pad Thai is wonderful, the portions are huge and great service!
Best pad won sen ive ever had! The crispy duck was amazing.
This was our first visit and surely it will not be our last. The food was amazing and the service was great. They checked back multiple times but not intrusive.
We’ve been regulars here for over a decade and I can’t believe I took this long to share my log of Thai Taste Matthews.
Their Tom Kha and Pad See Ew are my go to, but their curries and salads are also excellent. I can’t remember a time when we didn’t get great service in a lovely restaurant with authentic decor to go with the authentic Thai cuisine.

Although the food was OK at the Thai Taste restaurant, we have a problem with how we were treated differently compared to others by the elderly lady taking orders. She was very impatient with us and had a grim on her face, also the order that came out was not to our specifications, and she tried to push it on us that we did not order it right. We overheard her ask others for desserts with a smile on her face which was totally absent while she spoke to us and as a matter of fact, we were not even asked for it and she got us the check directly (My wife and I were thinking of getting a dessert). And at the end of it, she insisted on adding tips, we usually do tip at other restaurants but with the experience we had we specifically chose not to. I don’t think we are ever going back to this place!
My new favorite thai restaurant!!! Basil chicken!!!!
Shocked this place doesn’t have 5 stars. I completely understand why this restaurant has been open for as long as it has. The food is excellent, fresh, flavorful, authentic. Just absolutely perfect. And the waitress was so sweet and very attentive. So glad we found this hidden gem. I had the beef pad see ew and my husband had a duck dish (unsure of what it was called) but wow it was just incredible. We will probably be back again this week, and for sure will become regulars.
Always amazing food and service.
Vegetables were cooked perfectly and had good flavor.
Pad Thai is so good and ladies at front were very nice
Horrible customer service, I felt rushed to order. Alot of confusion on what I ordered. Extra charges for fewer ingredients that originally came in the meal I ordered.
Always good food and service! Ginger dishes are very tasty. Hot pot is good as well.
My family and I had the most awful experience in our life with this place. We didn’t like the food and the service. We ordered 2 the most traditional meals for Thai kitchen - a Tom yam and a Pad thai. Both meals were almost tasteless with lack of ingredients and really not fresh. After such a disappointing experience we decided not to give tips. Which is the right of any paying customer. The owner of this place followed us, me, my husband and a child and started to yell and require us to leave tips. She told, if we won’t do it, any time we come there we will be “KICKED OFF” from there - that’s exactly what that lady told us. We had anniversary that day and if I say our day was spoiled by such a rude attitude and unacceptable behavior - I would say nothing. Avoid this place if you don’t want to have a spoiled day and a bad food.
Amazing food even better, Service

Good little lunch special menu.
Pad Thai was solid. Only thing missing was some lime. Server was great and everyone was friendly!
Lunch was good but I was surprised and disappointed that the only noodle dish on the lunch menu was pad thai. I was glad I didn't order it because my friend did, and it looked like the noodles were spaghetti noodles! My friend said he thought that's what they were, too. Since I'm gluten sensitive, it's a good thing I didn't try it. The server was great and spoke Spanish to my friend.
Best Thai I’ve had in the area. The service was great and the food was even better. Look no further!
If its conveniently located for you then its a perfectly good option, but its really not worth traveling across town for. Service was great. Lovely area too, make multiple stops around the area if you can!
$23 for lunch. There is a sign outside that says daily lunch specials. It’s just not applicable on Saturday. There is no mention of this in the sign. The owner said the sign is too heavy to bring in. Wow. It’s aplastic a-fold sign and she’s only
Need to bring it in once per week. And she has able young staff.
Food was decent. Not worth over $20.
15 meal. 3 tea then tax and tip.
Won’t be back.
Love the food friendly staff.. I recommend anyone to come and try this restaurant out. It's worth it and the food is worth the price... I get chicken fried rice between a level 2 and level 4.. the reason I say levels is because of the spiciness. You can get it non spicy to very spicy. Their spring rolls are awesome too and their salad's with peanut butter dressing.. please come check them out.. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Delicious food! Great service! Clean restaurant!
Excellent little place to grab a quick lunch when you're out and about. They have a limited lunch menu but what they have is tasty and very reasonably priced. Our lunch included a main dish, soup, and spring rolls included in the price. It's a little loud inside when they're busy.
The food was delicious and a great presentation. I tried the garlic stir-fry and the spring rolls. I will go back for sure!
The food was yummy and full of flavor. The staff was very friendly and made wonderful suggestions.
Great service
Many staff members are very very rude and not welcoming. You should really work on being nicer and giving customers the etiquette and respect they deserve when spending their hard earned money with you. There are 1,000 other restaurants that we can help to be successful. I will not patronize your restaurant again after visiting any times and giving you several chances to redeem yourselves.
Watch out for that spice! I like my spicey food, but a 5 out of 6 was too much for my likings. I had the basil dish and it was good until my taste buds burned out. I'll do a 3 or 4 next time. My wife said her Pad Thai was not full of flavor. Maybe we don't know the difference between their signature and thai options.
The Curry is amazing. I get the C-3 every time we go
Wan works hard to make sure everything is perfect!!
Great service, great Thai food.
Happy to find good Thai so close to home.
This is my third time coming here. I love the vegetarian Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. I ordered vegetarian Pad Thai and shrimp version for my daughter. Taste is flavorful, although I wish it had bit more tanginess to it and I was missing a wedge of lime which is not a big deal. Overall, would recommend this place for a quick Thai cuisine, it’s tucked behind other establishments across Matthews Public library.
F-. Inedible food, terrible service, filthy bathroom. The food was premade hours before, with the meat added before it was served. The Pad Thai was overcooked and tasted like ketchup. (I'm not the only review that mentioned the ketchup.) I complained to the waitress who gave no apologies or showed any sign that it mattered to her at all. I usually tip 20-25%, and this is the first time in my life I've never left a tip. I felt like I was at a restaurant that would be out of business in a month. It's such a shame because this used to be one of my favorite places to eat.
I used to go to their East Blvd location. Glad there is a location near to my house.
I've eaten there several times and I have to admit I'm not really a fan of Thai food. Pat, I've enjoyed some of the things that they offer.
Great food and service!
This is the worst Thai restaurant I have visited. The food was not fresh and my son had diarrhea right after finishing meal. Not recommended at all.
Chicken Pad Thai is our go to number four if you like spice
Great place to eat, .
Ordered the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew and both were great. The only one thing is the seafood and beef is not as fresh as I expected, but definitely one of the best Thai taste you can find in Charlotte already.
I dine here on a regular basis. The food and service are consistently good. I really enjoy the crispy duck.
Awesome food and great ambiance!
Excellent yellow curry
I’ve been going here over 10 years, the food is always excellent and the service is welcoming. Best Thai restaurant in the Matthews/charlotte area.
We were really looking forward to eating Thai food in Matthews. Unfortunately, we were majorly dissatisfied. We had pad thai that was gummy with an unusual sauce. We also had a salad and spring rolls. This restaurant skimps on ingredients that would make their food better. We won't eat there again.
One of the best dinner in a long time. You win my heart. Ordered
1. Pad gro prow - Basil - Balanced brown sauce, many veggies, proper quantity. Can't get any better.
2. Green curry - Tofu - Loved the silky curry and the veggies in it. Tofu was fried perfectly.
3. Red curry - Again the very best.
4. Spring roll - Tad disappointed by bundling of raw cabbage strands. Had no taste. Please avoid.
Loved the hospitality, service and the thought of adding more rice on taking leftover.
Always love the Pad Thai here
If you like it spicy, you'll love Thai Taste!
Amounts looks like kids meals, price went up, should keep good size lunch or dinner.
Yum. In high school a dear friend of mine grew up back and forth between US and Thai land and I loved all the new flavors I tasted at their home! This is the first time in over 17 years that I've tasted anything like it at a Thai restaurant and it took me back.
Loved the green papaya salad. PERFECTLY dressed with peanut sauce. Fresh spring rolls at just the right temperature with the sauce, and to that we added some sesame chicken and a favorite dish we love to split: a light, spicy green curry with scallops that you just cannot stop eating. No pictures because we ATE it.
Food: I got the number 32 (I forgot) with seafood combo, spice level 3/5. It came in a heaping portion along with Jasmine rice. Very rich and flavorful. The scallops, squid, and shrimp were well cooked and seasoned. Heads up, if you're getting a spicy dish, they ask you to choose a spice level. I chose 3, it was really underwhelming, my spice tolerance is about average.
We also had the mango sticky rice. It was good. The relatively cold mango counterbalanced the hot rice very well and the flavors also complemented each other.
Service: No complaints here. They were patient and nice and the food was really quick.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has a very unique design with a lot of big windows, opening the place up, some views of nature, felt like a cottage overall very nice and cozy.
Thai Taste was the original Thai restaurant in the Charlotte area! The original location opened in 1988 on Monroe Rd. The original restaurant moved to East Blvd a few years later and is still there now!
This is the Matthews location and it’s quite good! Indeed, the food (and service) is very good! Cheers!
Mediocre. I've tried it several times and the food is often over cooked, soggy, and then results in a feeling that it just isn't fresh. I've tried several of their specials and the same was true for all, with some visits being a bit better than others. I wish this was good as Thai is my absolute favorite, and their pricing is fair with a nice patio in downtown Matthews, but it's just been really underwhelming.
Always very good!
Absolutely loved the place. The food is amazing. I’ve been looking for a good Thai place around the Charlotte and finally found it. I’ve been here twice already and will keep coming back.
Mango sticky rice is amazing, please try it! That is absolutely the way that Thai mango sticky rice should be.
Dumpling are also nice! The meet inside is super soft and tasty, recommend steamed!
10 Stars! The most delicious Thai food, and the kindest, most wonderful people! A thousand thank you's to Golf and Yhing, Wan Pen, Amkha, and everyone at Thai Taste Matthews!!!
Best Thai in Charlotte
The noodles in the pad Thai and pad see ew were both super soggy/overcooked, the portion size for the green Thai curry was ridiculously small (it filled a small soup container a little more than halfway), and Tom yum soup was so watery with two shrimps and one scallop and two squid rings. :( very disappointing, probably won’t return.
First time trying this location since the one in University closed.. I'll be back
So awesome. Will absolutely be returning.
Delicious local Thai restaurant! Love how it’s tucked away in downtown Matthews & they have a cute patio too.
Authentic food and Great service! The ladies serving us were very kind and fun, and the food was a big portion and very delicious.
So freaking good!
This is a terrible place to eat, service was awful and food wasn't good either, saw a roach in restaurant and told to not worry about it. Please, I mean please don't eat at this place.
This, is what real food should taste like. From the moment I first placed the very first taste of the yellow curry in my mouth I became new again. Cleaned. Whole. This food is superior. Since eating here I ran run faster, see harder, hear better, and I have been the best version of myself. It tastes so good. If I were on my death best I would ask for a mean from here. The mango sticky rice cured my depression. It is good. Come here give these kind people all your money and your business,
My first time trying this place it was just ok.
I ordered the chicken fried rice and spring rolls they both were very bland not much flavor at all. The spring rolls had almost no filling in them. Also their prices online aren’t the same prices. They should update their price menu.
The guy at the front desk was very kind and friendly. I picked up the asparagus stir fry with duck and it was great! I plan to dine in in the near future
This is a great place for Thai! A hidden gem! Some of the best Thai food I've ever had!
While we enjoy dining-in, there are always issues with call ahead / take out orders. They seem in a hurry to get off the phone and there’s always something messed up or missing with the order. Just be aware. Dining-In is definitely the way to go!
I've been a customer here on and off for over 15 years. For a while I lived in north Charlotte and no other Thai restaurant was anywhere near as good, this place is the best in Charlotte. I always get the red curry (not watery like other places) and my husband gets the pad thai.
The best Thai food around!
OMGoodness I loved the food. Shrimp spring roll is the truth. Can you send me some. Lol
Order #31..it was great, even better as leftovers the next day. Very good place to eat.
Food is good
Had the green curry with chicken. Delicious. Great flavor not too spicy. My husband had the Penang curry which was also delicious. Can't wait to go back
Very yummy place!! I’ll definitely be back!!
Not many places have Mango Sticky Rice, especially year round!! Their Mango Sticky Rice was amazing!!!
There was a lot of Thai items I’ve never seen but I only came for the Mango Sticky Rice so I tried a few appetizers and wow my mind was blown!! They’re must tries!! I ordered the Ka Nom Jeb and the Sar Tab. The Sar Tab came with an amazing peanut butter sauce and a sweet sauce while the Ka Nom Jeb came with a sweet soy sauce.
Can’t wait to come back!!
This is easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Queen City. The Thai Tea is a must! Just be careful, as the lunch menu changes just slightly every day, so check to make sure they have your go to dish that day. When you dine in they serve soup & a spring roll with your meal. If you like your spice, you can kick it up a notch, as you get to choose your heat level. The service is always great. We had the Gaeng Dang (Red Curry) and the Pad See Ew…this is Thai comfort food at its best!
Food was great. Service slow. Got soup and spring rolls long after we got main meal.
The best Thai EVER!
We love this family owned local Thai place.
Great staff too!
we have done a take out for dinner on a friday for Pad Thai and Thai Taste fried rice, the food was horrible. Shrimp was un cooked, Pad Thai had 0 peanuts in it, just the peanut powder, food was not hot at all. Portion was too little. We ended up trowing Pad Thai completely.
I am not sure of the dine in but will not dare try it with our take away experience. I will defnetly not recomond a take out from here for sure.
Delicious! The only downside is they have daily meals and if your favorite meal is not on the menu for that day you cannot get it. I can onlybdine on Thurs but it's worth the wait!
Best chicken fried rice on earth, for real y’all
Always a good place. The price is right for the size of the plates. It out favorite place for Thai in Charlotte.
Loved the food and had wonderful customer service! Highly recommend! Had the pad see ew and it was perfect! Just the right amount of spice and the noodles, veggies, and chicken were very nicely cooked. Will be going here again :)
Absolutely delicious food. Great prices at lunch. Huge portions at dinner. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Always fresh and delicious!
One of my favorite places the owner is always there get the peanut dressing salad and soups are great can't go wrong
We travel from Union SC just to eat here! Best Thai food around!
Great place and the lunch special is a great deal and plenty of food!😍
Consistent great food!
Always a delightful experience. Green curry is consistently good. Tom Kha soup so yummy. Service is always good as well.
Great food and service. Always a great meal and experience when we go there.
We enjoyed our first trip here in September. It was not crowded. We were seated quickly. The menu was good and not expensive.
Consistently the best!
Loved our food. Best Thai food I've had...Dish #37 shrimp and chicken the bomb #2 spicy. It was just as good as the first time!
Perfect place to go for Pad Thai! Always amazing service, and the BEST FOOD. Highly recommend
Service was good even with being short staffed. The food was great.
Service was great 👍🏽 No doubts.
Food was OK-ish. Mainly because I had more experience with Thai food, and the one star less is due to the locally sourced ingredient.
Still a very genuine and authentic Thai cuisine restaurant. Would recommend.
So good. I always get the panang curry #21 with chicken. You can’t go wrong with a curry dish here but I’ve heard good things about their other dishes too.
Bland spring rolls and sticky not very good beef pad thai. Service was ok
Despite the mixed reviews I figured we would try anyway. Called a few times for at least 15 min with no answer but they finally answered and we placed our togo order. Food was ready quickly but as others stated, all of the 4 noodle dishes we ordered were so dry.
Fresh and delicious!!!! Very nice staff
I was very excited to try this place. After ordering takeout and bringing it home, we were extremely disappointed. The Thai Fried Rice tasted like regular white rice (cooked with a LOT of water) with a tomato and a few pieces of fried egg….
I really hope that I was unlucky and ordered from here at the wrong.
Always amazing food and good service!
Best Pad Thai in Charlotte thus far! Tried some other Pad Thai dishes around town and wasn’t ever able to find that style and taste that made me fall in love with Pad Thai until I discovered Thai Taste Matthews. I’ve been grabbing to-go orders for a long time and came in today for lunch and the owner remembered me and treated me so warm and kindly.
Fresh, fast, delicious! Great team and hospitality. Thank you!
My all-time favorite Thai restaurant. Favorite dish is GANG PENANG CURRY! hands down
Excellent for lunch or dinner. Indicate spice level from 1 to 5 according to what your palette can handle. Friendly.
The Tom Kha soup is to die for! I didn't grow up having it but it feels like home while eating it!
Great little Thai place in Matthews North Carolina. Great for lunch or dinner. Never have bad service or food here, Pad Thai is the standard go to for me and those who eat with me, however other dishes we have tried and very good as well. You can select the level of spice you want and this can vary sometimes. Sometimes a level 3 is more like a 5 and other times more like a 1 or 2. This is probably just different cooks in the kitchen at the time.
If you are in or around Matthews, this is a great place to try if you like Thai food.
OHLh, the jasmine tea is good as well.
Authentic Thai Food. First time there so I have to go back and try other Thai dishes on their menu.
Waitress was accomodating and gave us proper attention.
My dish was very good, but I still had to add additional chili sauce to bring it up to my taste level.
A little difficult to find, but look for the City Hall Building and you will see the restaurant on the corner.
Good food but bad (slow) service
Delicious! Fairly priced. Good take-out service.
Got the pad thai, now I dream of it everyday!
Poor customer service, overcooked noodles. Couldn't even chew them.
This place has been around since the 80's in downtown Matthews. For good reason, they make the real authentic and tasty Thai dishes! This place is a go to if you are in Matthews and need some good Thai food. Great outdoor seating in the summer months although the bar nearby can be a little loud at times. Overall fantastic place to eat!
Wish it was open on Sunday...Great red and all other curries, highly recommend if you want some fast and quality curry.
This place is so good, had the curry and crispy duck, it was the best i’ve ever had in charlotte and i’ve lived here 12 years! Great customer service with the sweetest lady! Try this place out!
The food was delicious, the service was great even though it was crowded. We were there on a Saturday night at about 5:30, when we left every table was taken. We had appetizers of egg rolls and chicken on a stick we also had tofu dishes and two different pad Thai's, as well as two different chicken dinners, hot sake and a cold Thai tea drink. I would definitely go back there again.
Great food and friendly service!
Seriously great food! Stop in and give lunch a try!
