I don’t wanna be too harsh, the food i had was very good. My confirmation email told me 8:20-8:45. I got there around 8:50, so the food should have been ready by then. I then waited for 40 minutes at the counter before a worker came out from the back of the restaurant to help me. There were about 5 groups behind me by then waiting, and several tables dining in that hadn’t been helped. I was courteous, tipped and left.
The other issue is that they had a promotion online for a Free Thai Tea and a Free Appetizer on Jan. 31st only, which was added in my cart automatically online, and I was excited for. This was not in the bag for the orders I picked up for my roommate and I, and I did not notice until I got home. I understand if supply was limited or if it wasn’t available, but a heads up would have been good to give.
Again, food was good and I’m not trying to rag too hard on them, just a little bit frustrating waiting 40 minutes for service when the store isn’t busy, and there are other patrons waiting for takeout and dine-in. They didn’t have a bell to ring for service, and it felt rude to knock on the kitchen door to get their attention. I heard people talking in the kitchen in conversation. When someone did come out, they didn’t apologize for the wait or anything, just checked me out without much service.
Edit: I remembered, I did also call twice before I ordered my food online so that I could ask a question and they did not answer either time.
The BEST Thai food in Durham! My partner and I order take-out from this restaurant several times a month. The curries are rich, flavorful and perfectly spiced, and we can honestly say we’ve never had crab rangoons like these before! The employees are always friendly and the prices are very reasonable for this area. It’s truly one of the Triangle’s hidden treasures!
The day that I dined here the people in the booth in front of me and a guy across the room eating by himself talked about how they come regularly from Raleigh and Wake Forest to eat at this Durham restaurant. Absolutely everything that's on your plate was made in the house it's all so fresh and so good. I've never had better Thai food in my life.
The owner brought a small bowl of chilies to the table so that we could make the food as hot as we wanted to. I wanted mine very hot. It only took two small servings of the Chili's to make the food hot enough to clean my nostrils out. And it was fresh.
You have to be patient when you eat at this restaurant. The entire world is understaffed right now and the owner insists that things be done right. If you're in a hurry pick a different place. If you're willing to wait, the reward will be beyond your imagination.
There is ample handicap parking and access at the Cross Creek shopping center. The layout of the restaurant is accommodating to handicapped visitors.
Please consider some other options if you have small children.
First walking in the place has a terrible smell - not from food. Didn’t get drinks until after served appetizer. Fresh shrimp rolls were so nasty - I only ate the shrimp. Veggie dish was lacking veggies and the sauce was too thick. Red curry is normally served in a bowl as it’s soupy - they served it on a plate. We will not stop in ever again nor recommend it to anyone.
This is one of the triangles best kept secret Thai food restaurants, I love going here on a cold rainy day and having coconut curry soup and hot Thai noodles. The service here is really good and the food always taste great and exceptionally well seasoned. The staff are amazing and really nice and the prices are a great value too. I really recommend anyone looking for authentic Thai food to come here and dine and trust you will be back again and again.
Authentic Thailand food, beef salad is our favorite.

Great food and friendly staff
Highly recommended
Routinely order from this place and routinely.Wait between twenty to fifty minutes for food after the promised time.

Yummy food
Such a sweet charming place. The person who works the front desk is so kind and helpful and patient. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing and nourishing.
Everyone enjoyed their meal here. We will be back.
This place is a gem! I have learned to ask for 'Thai style -- strong! Not weak American style. But not too spicy/hot!" And had the best Red Curry last night I've had outside of Thailand. The Drunken Noodles were delicious also. BONUS-- they're open until 9:30 pm!
Food is okay. I’ve gotten the pad thai before and it was a little too sweet. I got the pad see ew today and it has the same problem. Other than that, the noodles were well cooked and everything else was good! My favorite is the crab rangoon.
The nam tok goes crazy with the milk green tea nothing compares to this food!!!!!

Food was good. Service was mediocre. I finished my meal and no one was around to ask about dessert. I waited a while and then called out to see if there was any staff around that I couldn't see. There was 1 sole person sitting in the back but he did not work there. However, he seemed familiar with the staff and retrieved my waitress from the kitchen. I felt like I was holding the up from closing so I just asked for the check and left without dessert. This was at 8:38 pm when they supposedly close at 10. Definitely not a welcoming experience.
Spicy Basil Lamb was superb! Chops were cooked perfectly and with generous portions. Relaxing atmosphere. Very nice staff.
Worst drunken noodles I've ever had! I've literally never had bad drunken noodles. I ordered the chicken version at the lowest, most mild level possible last night and picked it up right before they closed. When I got home and dug in, I quickly discovered that the dish was inedible due to being EXTREMELY spicy. I went to bed hungry and crabby.
After work today, I returned the food, explaining the situation and asked that they remake it properly. They agreed to remake it but I got no apology or offer to compensate the trouble (i.e. a spring roll or something on the house would have really made all the difference). The replacement dish was not too spicy but just didn't have that WOW factor that drunken noodles always has. 2/10, would not re-visit.
Was craving Thai food and realized a restaurant called Thai Spoon was only 8 minutes away from my house. So, I decided to take a chance on the place. I’m so pleasantly surprised! It was absolutely delicious! I got the shrimp pad thai, steamed dumplings, and Thai tea. The noodles were perfectly sauced, not too sweet or savory. Just right :) The dumplings came with a DELICIOUS curry sauce. And the Thai tea was such a yummy drink to wash it all down with. I will definitely be returning for some take-out again!!!
This is the best Thai food in Durham! Trust me. I've tried them all. On top of that, it's a little bit cheaper than the other Thai restaurants as well.
We get take out from here regularly and it is always good. Easy to order online and the people are super nice. Seems like a family run business which is great to support. We are basic and like the pad Thai and drunken noodles
Thai Green Tea is my favorite. So creamy and light and refreshing.
Very bad experience. Food order to take out but gave us in cook chicken Bomb and 2 boys and lady don’t even want to listen about it.
My wife called this the best Massaman Curry she ever had. They put fresh avocados in it. She was skeptical but it worked! They were much quicker than they said it would take. Very nice and quiet. They keep the lights down low, so don't be fooled thinking they are not open.
I can only say it was good.
Everything tasted awesome. Why folks aren't lined up and waiting for a table is beyond me.
Expensive for.not much
The Spicy Thai Coconut Soup is authentic and always the very best. The Coconut Cake makes me want to eat Thai Coconut Cake the entire week.
Great food with good flavor.
Spicy Basil dish was more of a Chinese brown sauce with no complexity of a Thai dish, just whole basil thrown in. Portion was good, but $14 with no appetizer or drink is ridiculous. I did tip $2, not sure why. I had to order via a phone app at the table and the single employee was not engaging at all, She brought the dish out and then no follow up. I was the only person here 12pm to 12:45. I think the pricing / value is why it has no traffic.
This place was not good. Very disappointed. It’s basically a place for takeout only. Please don’t waste your money on this place. I was not happy.
Best Pad Thai around. Love it!
I came here with a friend on a Thursday night and we were seated quickly (it was a slower night). The server promptly took our order and drinks came out afterwards. Two dishes were ordered and one came out before the other, but it's probably safe to assume that they had a small kitchen staff that night. We ordered the Tom Kha, Drunken Noodles, and. Thai Fried rice.
Now, the food. I'm glad the person accompanying me was open to sharing food because I could've eaten both dishes and be miserably full. The food came out HOT, which is a good thing since that meant that the food is served immediately after being made. The drunken noodles were flavorful, though a bit spicy for my liking (I'm sensitive). The Thai fried rice... SO good. The rice grains were so fluffy and the flavor was just right. Not too over-powering, not too bland. The chicken was slightly dry but I'll substitute it for tofu next time.
The bad: they're located close to me and offer online ordering. Very dangerous.
The drunken noodle was delicious.
Thai Spoon is the best thai place in the area. Their food is fresh and flavorful, everything on the menu is great. The thai matcha tea is so good, as well as the regular thai tea. Their fried items are amazing, the fried calamari is incredible, they always come out hot and crispy, never overcooked, clearly they come straight out of the fryer. They are willing to make accomodations, swap out vegetables and take away/add ingredients if possible. The staff is always friendly and attentive.
Pad thai tasted more sugary than children’s breakfast cereal, gross. Ordered calamari appetizer and it was soggy AF. It was a to go order, and it was bagged in an idiotic manner; they put this super heavy plastic container on top of a light weight Styrofoam one so it kept sloshing around, and trying to get the food out of the restaurant and into my car was a nightmare, then I had to keep one hand on it to keep it from sliding off my passenger seat and onto my car floor. It also gave me putrid butt-burning diarrhea in less than an hour after choking down what I could. Horrible, never will go back.
Yellow curry with chicken is really good!
Inedible. I never leave reviews. Total waste of money, time and gas.
A hidden gem, our favorite Thai in Durham. The panang curry is awesome and they have great lunch specials.
Be careful online menu lists tofu curry as $12.95, but they actually charge $13.95, and they make nonsense excuse that online menu is too difficult to fix?

Our go-to for takeaway. Really delicious food. Their wonton soup is phenomenal and their yellow curry is great too. We also like the fried rice and try their homemade coconut cake. We love Thai spoon
Take out only since COVID.
Ordered food for a large group of 15+ people on the evening after Thanksgiving. Got a text saying food would be ready in 40 minutes. When I arrived, 60 minutes after the text came, the guy working there said it would be another 20+ minutes wait. And it was - so it was 40 minutes delayed from the time we were told it would be ready, with several hungry kids in our group who were nearing bedtime. Why they couldn't have texted or called and told us this, I have no idea.
Wonderful place for Thai food! Everything I've had here is delicious. Highly recommend the Pad Spicy Chili 😊
Ordered two different dishes. Both tasted the same. Like the cheapest fake American Chinese takeout. We tasted it and threw it away. Truly awful.
We got seated immediately and food came within 3 minutes of ordering. The food was delicious as well.
Such good food and an awesome menu up in north Durham! We do takeout here regularly and the staff are always very friendly. Portion sizes are awesome as well, we usually have some leftovers for lunch. Favorites for us are: spicy basil stir fry, pineapple fried rice, Tom yum soup, and the green curry.
The food was excellent, but service was subpar. My waitress forgot my drink and food took a half hour to arrive. The relaxed atmosphere and delicious food really buys a lot back though.
Fantastic food - great take-out.
Really delicious food. An ideal takeout spot! Everything we have tried has been good, but we particularly like the pan fried dumplings, the drunken noodles, and the peanut beloved with beef. Peanut beloved is basically satay beef (or whatever protein you choose) but with more peanut sauce, some veggies and peanuts on top. Delicious. The portions are not as big as you might get elsewhere (as in you may not have leftovers) but the flavor and convenience to Rougemont make it well worth it!
Absolutely loved the food. Fresh with good presentation. Large portions.
Our favorite Thai place in Durham! We’ve only done take out but the tofu drunken noodle/pad kee mao is great.
Went for lunch. Stood around for 10 mins at the counter. Called out. No answer. But you could hear someone was doing something in the back. Couldn’t even find a menu while waiting so I left.
Great food good margaritas
Wonderful
Food is pretty good and a reasonable price. Only minor complaints was dim lighting, and the service was okay but appeared to be the owners kids so it's fine.
The chicken massaman curry and crab ragoons were delicious! Spice level 2 was good and had some kick, might try lvl 3 next time.
Ate at Thai Spoon a couple of years ago and then again recently. Our first experience was ok. Our second experience was not good. Service was poor, portions were very small and the flavor was not as good. Plus it seemed extremely expensive for what we ordered. We have now found another Thai restaurant that has better food and service.
Food is delicious! Was a little weary because no one was eating inside and wasn't the cleanest but food was fresh and fast. Would recommend.
You know how everyone knows the hole in the wall spot is always the best, WELL….. that’s def this place for sure! Had Red Chkn Curry yesterday and it was so good, I’m back today for more!!!
Great small family business ans very authentic food. Nothing special about the atmosphere, but that's not what I go for.
Service was unengaging. Acted like they were doing you a favor to serve you. No tea.
I have eaten here several time and I truly believe that this restaurant is one of Durham’s hidden gems!
I though it was some of the best Pad Thai I’ve had!
Highly recommend!!
Let me start by saying I know the owner. He used to be the chef/work at Thai Cafe on University. I say that because I have been a fan for years and supported both restaurants because before now have had excellent food and very good service.
I recently patronized Thai Spoon and was extremely disappointed with the service. They were empty but the one woman who was working the table flat out acted like she didn't want us there. She seemed bothered when we asked her questions and was rude in general. When some of the food came out with peanuts (my son has an allergy), I politely tried to get her attention and she looked dead at me and walked in the back. She seemed to struggle with understanding English, which I am fine with and can work through, but don't use that as an excuse to ignore your patrons.
This brings me to the food. For the first time ever, the food was sub-par. Barely seasoned, greasy, and what I would expect from a Chinese spot in a mall food court, not from an owner that I know goes out of his way to make sure the food is exceptional and authentic. Overall, a very disappointing experience. We won't be back and more importantly will be spreading the word that this is a restaurant to pass on.
Says open for dine in. It is not. In from out of town for work so was a waste of time to come here.
I ordered pickup online and get here and the restaurant isn’t open. Very frustrating. The food is pretty good but I’m done with this restaurant.
Their drunken noodles are the best in town!
This place has the best Thai food in Durham and is run by a lovely family. Always a pleasure eating here.
The owner is awesome and very friendly, however his wife is rude and could care less for business. I will never go there again when he is not available. He actually warned us service from his wife has his business hurting. Don’t even order unless he’s there
Omg this place is HIGH quality in everything- John the owner is just beyond caring, attentive, sweet, and friendly - the food is excellent and you can taste the quality and care put into it. My first impression was how clean and fresh the place was - beautifully kept and maintained. You can tell the extreme care and diligence put into this establishment. Very rare these days. You have to go here. The FLAVOR of the food is exceptional and John loves to custom cook for you. He aims to please you 1000% you can tell.
The food was incredible and the service was great! I will definitely be visiting again.
It's a nice place to sit and dine in. I ordered chicken in red curry and had a small shrimp tom yum soup. They were both delicious. Not too spicy- just how i like it. I also ordered the Thai tea (I forgot to take the picture). That was good. The price for the food was not bad. I'm from out of town and had tried another Thai place in NC that sucks and was not authentic. This place did not disappoint.
This is one of my favorite, go-to places to eat!! Take-out or dine in, the food is always amazing! The quality and quantity is great for the prices. The owners are always so sweet and have no issues or annoyance cooking for my vegan diet. The restaurant is always clean and the service is fast. Convenient for take-out when I am too busy to cook for my family and also a quiet, comfortable space to have lunch and get work done on my laptop. Highly recommend!!
Amazing food. Amazing soups. Love the people
Love the food and the people here. Service is a little slower than most Americans like but it is fine by me. No reason to rush a good meal.
While the prices were good, the food was subpar. The pad Thai was far too sweet and yet had no flavor?? The calamari was very chewy but the sauce accompanying it made it edible. I was really excited about this place but am disappointed.
Best Thai in Durham. After sampling a lot of the menu it has not disappointed. The Basil Fried Rice is really good.
I ordered lunch take-out and thought the food was OK. However, I found the food a bit too sweet and oily. Also, the lunch menu should be updated to reflect current pricing (i.e., I ordered the spicy eggplant shrimp for lunch in the menu and was charged the dinner/regular entree price).
We get take-out here often. We're big fans of the Pad Kee Mow, Pad Thai, and Tom Kha.
I had the Yellow Curry (with chicken) and a slice of their coconut cake. The food was fantastic! The curry was exactly what you want from curry. Fantastic flavor and that thick, silky mouth feel that is the thing I’m always looking for but rarely find. The coconut cake was just out of this world. Super yummy. I will be making this a regular spot for take out!
We used to love this place. We have been getting takeout fairly regularly throughout the pandemic. Each time, it has gotten worse. However, tonight it is ridiculous. Same prices, half as much food--literally. The containers are half the size they used to be. I ordered extra vegetables in my curry and got 6 slivers of bell pepper in the entire thing. Our basil rolls said 4 on the menu. We only got two, and they were extremely small--about half the size they used to be. We also got a salad...it had no lettuce in it (it was supposed to have lettuce.) The meal was pretty expensive, especially for what we got. It is very disappointing because we really loved this place.
Very good, authentic Thai food.
For the price I expected more food and quality. I called for a carryout and when I opened the bag there was no napkins or utensils. I asked for some and he handed them to me bare handed with no mask in this pandemic. Will not be returning to this establishment.
Pad Thai connoisseur here and theirs is really really tasty!
I have been going here for the past 2 years and every time I have had great experiences--My favorite dish is the Bomb Chicken. The food is full of flavor yet not heavy or greasy and the vegetables are fresh. You can tell that a lot of care and love went into your meal. I would recommend this place.
Muy rice la comida.
Ordered today at 6:00, I was told it would be ready at 6:40. Arrived at 6:45 and there were 5 people standing around waiting, one said they have not seen an employee since they have been in there. I called the phone and an employee walked out front, I believe he is the owner’s son. We were not even Aknowledged until after 7. At 7:15 my husband asked how much longer till our food will be ready and he said “I mean they are cooking it so I don’t know what to tell you man.” I then told him we would like a refund because we are not waiting any longer and I was told he needs to call “technical support.” Finally we received our refund and left. I use to love eating here but sadly I will no longer be giving them any business. Very rude service.
Great food but you call and the son never picks up the phone and so I’ve actually called the Durham location and asked the wife to call the Roxboro location and ask them to answer the phone... many times. I hate ordering online and using my credit card but that’s what I’ve had to do and yet I have previously waited a half hour before arriving and still had to wait for my food. Another time I was there to order and the place was closed... there were customers outside also, one lady who had already ordered and paid online and John the chef was not there and it was locked up tight. During Covid I’ve really tried to support this place because the food is amazing and the owner is a sweetheart but I ordered again tonight, online and paid in advance including tip and drove over there, arrived about 8:45 pm and they advertised that they close at 9... you guessed it, nobody there! Locked up and lights out. I’m done. I’ll never give them my business ever again. The wife’s food is every bit as good as John’s, so from now on if I get hungry and I happen to be down in Durham I’ll go see Lek... she’s open during advertised business hours and doesn’t flake out on people like John does. Shame too, because it’s great, authentic Thai food but a real crapshoot whether or not you can find anyone there at the Roxboro location during business hours!
Hello. I was so in the mood for a great pad Thai, that I orderded fro this restaurant. OMG what a deception. I am sorry to say it, specially during these hard times, but that was one of the worse pad thais I have ever had. Too greasy, too salty, too sweet. It was like eating sugar and fat with salt,
I really hope to find a place in Durham where I can eat an amazing dish of pad thai.
Best pad Thai in Durham!!!! I get it with tofu and it’s so good. Everything we’ve had here is great. I always forget to take a photo because I’m so excited to eat! Postmates delivers covid-safely in Durham. Yum. Don’t forget to tip!
Love the food so delicious and service very good highly recommend 💯💯💯
Delicious pad thai and panang curry. Definitely the best we've had in durham!
We just ordered take out so I can’t rate the atmosphere. However, we got Beef Drunken Noodles and it was very delicious. We ordered “not spicy “ but it was just a tiny bit spicy. I’m saying that the spice didn’t make my nose run until I was almost finished eating the whole bowlful. So, it was pleasantly spicy. Plenty of beef and vegetables. Yes, there was a cooked tomato wedge in there and it was fine with me. Very generous portion. We’ll get it again soon.
Great Food!
Awesome Thai food.
Excellent food 😋
I just ordered food for a family of four. It was $64.00. We wasted our money. It was so greasy. The grease was in the bottom of each food container. Thai Food is suppose to be healthy. This was my first and last visit. I stopped eating Chinese for this same reason. I am tasting grease and not food. We had to throw away our food. Very Sad!
TL;DR Get the Por Pia, Fresh Shrimp Basil Roll, Pad Thai, Thai Fried Rice, any of the curries, or peanut sauce beloved. Avoid Tom Yum soup and the Pad spicy chili.
Apparently there's a character limit on Google reviews, so you're missing out on the long preface about Lowes messing up our appliance delivery, but that's why we ate at Thai Spoon every day for a few weeks. We wrote down a rating (1-5) for each meal, which I'll share below.
But first, a few words about the owner. After the first few days, he started throwing in free soup with my order. When I said we also like spring rolls (cough cough) he was, "WAIT RIGHT THERE" and got me some. I'm sure he appreciated the business in the middle of the pandemic, but that was just going above and beyond.
Most of the entrees can be made vegetarian (and probably vegan)
Appetizers
Por Pia (spring rolls) - 5 stars. These are really good. The stuffing is fresh, and the outside is crispy. It comes with three medium-small rolls.
Crispy Tofu - 4 stars. It's just fried tofu with a good dipping sauce, but it's a pretty large dish, so good value.
Fresh Shrimp Basil Roll - 5 stars. Pro tip - you can ask to substitute tofu for shrimp. These are absolutely delicious and might be my favorite thing on the menu. Only downside is they are pretty pricey for the amount of food you get.
Tempura - 3.5 stars. Vegetarians, sub tofu for shrimp. This is a large dish, but it's just ok. It's kind of greasy and bland, but I think that's just how tempura is? It's the same as any other tempura I've had.
Crispy mushroom - 4 stars. This is basically the same dish as the tempura, but with mushrooms. It's much worse value though, so if you're in the mood for something fried, I would go with the tempura.
Soup
Tom Yum – 1 star. This was NOT GOOD. I can’t say what it was exactly that we didn’t like, but both my partner and I were like “uh uh, no, not eating that.”
Tom Kha – 4.5 stars. This was much better. Generous servings of tofu, and the broth is excellent.
Clear glass noodle – 4 stars. Ask to make vegetarian. Really good at first, and would have been 5 stars. The owner warned me that I needed to mix thoroughly, because the salt would settle at the bottom. I did mix, a lot, and it was great. But when I had leftovers, it was WAY too salty. So I guess mix often and try to eat it all at once.
Noodle and Rice
Pad Thai – 5 stars. One of the best dishes. Just perfect in every way.
Pad Kee Mow – 4 stars. Still very good, not as flavorful as some of the other dishes.
Pad Z Ew – 4.5 stars. It was 5 the first time we got it, but the second time it wasn’t as good.
Pad Woon Sen – 4.5 stars. My partner said 4, but I thought it was tasty. All the noodle dishes are kind of similar though, hard to compare.
Thai Fried Rice – 5 stars. Just perfect.
Spicy Basil Fried Rice – 3 stars. There was something about the spicy ingredient that just wasn’t good, it ruined the other flavors.
Curry Entrees
Mussamun curry – 4 stars. The sauce was AMAZING and by far the best of the curries, but the veggies were bad. The avocado tasted really weird (I don’t think avocado belongs in soup, but what do I know?), and the cashews had a weird taste and texture too.
Panang curry – 4.5 stars. This one was a bit too spicy for me, but my partner loved it.
Green curry – 4.5 stars. Same as above.
Yellow curry – 4.5 stars. This one was not too spicy, and the potatoes were delicious! But the sauce wasn’t as flavorful.
Stir fry entrees
Broccoli garlic – 4 stars. Pretty good, nothing earth shattering though.
Spicy basil – 4 stars. Same.
Pad Khing – 4.5 stars. My partner said it was kind of boring, but I disagree.
Sweet and sour – 4 stars. Pretty decent sweet and sour.
Pad Spicy Chili – 1.5 stars. NOT GOOD. It just tasted like chili peppers and nothing else.
Spicy eggplant – 3 stars. The eggplant just wasn’t doing it for us.
Peanut Sauce Beloved – 4.5 stars. This dish has a weird name, but it’s delicious
Spicy cashew nut – 4.5 stars. Too spicy for me, my partner liked it.
Veggies together – 3.5 stars. I think this one was just boring.
Absolutely terrible pickup experience.
Placed a takeout order over the phone and was told it would take 25 minutes. I arrived about 15-20 minutes later, and the door was locked and the lights were off. I called a couple times and eventually got an answer; they told me it would be 5 more minutes (no explanation of whether they would call me when it was ready or if I would have to keep calling to check). While waiting in my car, I saw someone from the restaurant come outside to give another customer their order, and they also turned on the Open sign. I waited a few more minutes and tried calling again, and when no one answered, I checked the door and found it was now unlocked.
I then waited inside for *20 more minutes*, making several phone calls that went unanswered, before an employee finally came out from the back and rang up my order (which was already done and had apparently been sitting behind the counter the entire time I'd been waiting). They jokingly asked how long I had been waiting there, with no apology.
Food quality was mixed - pad see ew was good, but the fried rice was bland.
Will definitely not be returning.
Ordered here for the first time and everything was delicious. Tried Nam Tok, Tom Kha, Bomb Chicken, and Chicken Pad Thai. The Nam Tok was both our favorite!! Never had it before but it was delicious. Can’t say the Pad Thai was the best thing I ever had, but it was very good Everything was excellent! Will definitely come back if we are in Durham again.
Amazing, authentic Thai food, the best I've had in the area.
I was given HALF the meal for the same price I usually pay. They knew this. When I called they said that they ran out of yellow curry. But why charge me $13 (and I always tip!) at pick up if they knew they didn't have enough for my order? I offered to come back and get another meal but they wouldn't entertain in. Told me I can only come in for a free meal another time in the future. No, thanks. As a EX‐regular customer, I feel duped. Simply unethical business. The food also didn't taste fresh this time.
[4/22: I did not alter this review because once I arrived the next day, there was no apology or any effort from the business to make it right. At first, I was told that Thai Spoon would only give me the meal (I had already paid for!) IN ADDITION to a new order they wanted me to place. I had to push them to give me the meal I had already paid for. Again, awful customer service! Very disappointing.]
I placed a to-go order at 2:17pm. The person on the phone said it would takes 20 minutes so I got there at 2:40pm. The door was locked and there was no one inside. I called their phone number 5 times without anyone picking up and ended up leaving a message.
At 2:56pm, when I was already on my way home, the restaurant called. The person didn't seem to understand what they did wrong and said something to the effect of she not being near the phone when I called.
I used to come here every now and then but this is very disappointing. I drove around hungry for 30+ minutes without getting any food. I would not have held it against them if there were some kind of apology or some effort to make it right, but there was nothing. They should really train their employees better.
Great food, fast & friendly svc.
Food is good but service is slow. Two people were taking walk-in + dining in orders, taking orders from kitchen to customers. Orders were fulfilled so slowly that I’m guessing they had one person in the kitchen. If you go, i probably wouldn’t go on a Friday night unless you’re willing to wait
Stopped in for takeout, and so glad I did. Pad Thai was acceptably spicy and delicious.
This place has authentic Thai food! The owner is terrific! If you love Thai food, you need to try it. There is not much ambience, but...go for the food!!!
Loved the food!!!!
We stopped randomly and we're happily surprised how delicious the food was! Excellent pad thai!
Really good food.
Music really bad. Should have soft Thai music, not loud rap or loud rock
Two years later now, and the music is still really bad .Food is still good.
Terrible customer service.
Thai Spoon gave me one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had with a restaurant. I've been a frequent customer in the past, but never again. I realize now that their staff is sloppy, inconsiderate and completely uncaring of even their frequent customers.
I was given the wrong takeout order and made it all the way home before I realized I didn't have the correct items. After driving 20 minutes BACK to the restaurant, at night and in the middle of a downpour, the guy working the counter had the gall to try and charge me the $2 difference in my order and the incorrect order I was given, despite the huge inconvenience of the entire situation falling squarely in my lap.
No actual apologies were given, but he and the cashier did try to blame me for the mistake, with the cashier deflecting responsibility by telling me that she repeated the order back to me. In actuality, the cashier was difficult to understand due to her broken english, so I repeated it back to her twice while the other guy distracted her by trying to carry on a personal conversation with her about work schedules.
I pressed that I should be compensated in some way for my time and personal expense at rectifying THEIR mistake, but was stonewalled by her repeated assertion that she had repeated my order back to me, as if this is their only means of verifying orders. No itemized receipt was offered at checkout, so I'm left to assume that their service processes simply are this lazy. Thai Spoon certainly doesn't display any consideration for their customers otherwise.
Best Thai restaurant in town
Pad Thai was great, Tom kha was pretty good needed more lemongrass and ginger.
Good food.
Good Thai food, slow but friendly service.
The young man who picks up the phone is quite rude. I've let it slide several times but this time he cut me off several times when I was putting in my order and hung up on me before I finished my sentence. I promptly called back, cancelled my order and took my business elsewhere.
Reasonably priced tasty food.
This is great authentic Thai food, a real treasure!
Flavor, Flavor, Flavor
This is one of the best thai restaurants I've been to in a long time, i had the basil fried rice and it was very good. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys thai food.
Great food and great service!
Shrimp Pad Thai was some of the best I've ever tasted. Pad Prik Pork Thai hot was excellent too. The dumplings on the appetizer menu were very unique....never seen these kind of dumplings in a Thai restaurant before. Highly recommended.
Super fresh food and wonderful coconut cake! We'll definitely be back for more!!!
So good!! Loved the curry
All the food I have ordered has been excellent. Wait staff has been quite responsive and friendly. Coconut cake is outstanding.
Ordered the stir fry with chicken. Was delicious.
They are always putting out great food! My go to Thai place in
Delicious dishes and excellent service 😋
The family and I dined here about a year ago (2018) and the service was great, food was awesome. This time around, not so much. I placed a to go order. Not the friendliest of service, somehow it felt like it was by invitation only and I didn't have one. A lady, who mentioned was her day off, tried to push a drinks on me while I waited for my order. I mentioned I was driving, but she insisted one would be ok. I'll give it another chance.
At the same time the best Thai food in Durham and some of the most unrealistic wait times.
Consistently unable to accurately estimate wait for takeout.
Service was good but food was subpar. For my first time trying thai food the experience did not make me want to come back. Out of all the items I ordered, the best things were the spring rolls, shrimp basil rolls, and the flavor of the beef pad spicy chili.
Calamari was tempura battered in large pieces and oily. Tom Yum soup w/clear noodles was not hot as soup should be(had to send back to re-heat). Curry Duck may have been my fault as I was not expecting a sweet sauce w/pineapples. The Pad Zu Ew was also not what I expected as the noodles were huge. All in all I do not think the food was authentic, but maybe thai food is just not for me.
I love it great food and people are friendly.
