My very first time ever trying Thai food, and I was impressed. The only thing I can say as an opportunity is that it was confusing first entering if I seat myself or wait. Once I sat, the service was excellent and top notch. The soup was a little spicy but delicious. When my food arrived, it was hot and delicious. I would have gotten more. This was a great experience for my first time ever trying Thai cuisine and I applaud this restaurant for providing top quality customer service.

Very authentic Thai food and attentive server. The Thai Iced Tea is creamy and delicious. I also enjoyed the Shrimp in Blanket. Crispy skin and juicy shrimp. The Pad Thai is good but be careful of the spice level. It's "Thai level", meaning your medium spice is basically "hot".

Enjoyed our dinner and will be back again soon.

I do not have enough words on how incredible Thai 55 is! Recommended by an incredible friend, we came here together and you can tell how great the people are the moment you walked in. The absolute kindest and most intentional people work here, they really make the entire experience elevate to another level. HUGE shoutout to Tommy- he is so warm and welcoming, also very fun and funny! He greets everyone with a smile and warmth, truly incredible. The inside is also very cute, spacious, and very clean.

The menu is filled with incredible dishes, I found it hard to narrow what I wanted down cause everything looks so good. I found myself thinking of wanting to come here every week so I could have a little bit of everything. I’m also a huge fan of eggplant, Tommy recommended I get the lunch special (which usually range between $10-$13 per plate, huge portions and comes with rice- incredible deal). Worry not about the spice levels- you can choose!

You MUST get their Thai tea! I’m a fan of it coming in a mason jar with a handle, looks very pretty (aesthetic, you can mix the cream into the tea- sadly my photo is too blurry to do it Justice). Super delicious!

For dessert- you have to get the mango sticky rice. A top tier dessert, not too sweet, tastes really creamy and refreshing. Always a beautiful balance of flavors.

Ordered to-go for the first time tonight. I got the silver noodle soup and it is delicious! Super fragrant, well seasoned, and abundance of noodles (I ordered extra noodles but I'm pretty sure I didn't need to!) The man who greeted me was very nice but soft spoken. Excited to order here again. I was even 30 minutes late to my pickup but it was so well packaged I don't need to reheat at all now that I'm home.

I took a colleague to lunch here and the experience was awesome! The food was colorful and flavorful. I ordered the drunken noodles which were superb!!!!! Also our server was a one-man show (Host, server, cashier, etc.) and did a fantastic job of taking care of the entire restaurant by himself. But did I mention the food!!!!! It will definitely have you wanting to come back for more!!!!

I've eaten here many times and really recommend it. The best peanut sauce I've ever had. Great service. Awesome selection. Tried multiple dishes. Consistent experience everytime I've been here. For dessert this past time I had the mango sticky-rice and found it was a great way to complete my meal.

Update: ok the drunken noodles are my new favorite and this is by far the best tom kha 🥣 I've ever had. My husband loved the thai beef noodle soup. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain there is nothing bad on this menu. Oh the mango sticky rice is heavenly if you even have room for it. I might recommend it to-go because it's so good but I'm always too full to eat it in the restaurant.

One of my very favorite restaurants. Always consistently good and fresh. You get so much food, and even if I over eat, I still feel good after. My favorite dishes so far are the egg rolls, thai dumplings (sooo good), spicy cashew tofu, and spicy Hawaiian cashew chicken. I recommend exploring the menu because each time I order something new, I find a new favorite.

Best Thai in the triangle, and BJ is a great host. My favorites are the thom kha, pad Thai, chicken noodle bowl, and chicken massaman.

Took a while to get waited on, served a table that came in after us first, had to ask twice for water. Food was okay (although mine was incorrect). The real kicker though, was the belly up roach by the restroom door, when I went to wash my hands. Probably Not going to be heading back there.

The food here was wonderful. The tom kha was delicious and the spice levels were very nice. Our server (who seemed to be the owner) could not have been better. Our drinks were never even half way empty before getting us a refill and he even provided us with a mango sticky rice dessert after all our spicy food. Nothing but good things to say about this place.

So, I didn't eat there personally, but I wanted to deeply thank the owner and let people know how great a person he is. I work Uber eats and there was a situation based on a personal issue that made me feel EXTREMELY unsafe, and I asked him to bring me to my car. He gladly agreed, talked the whole time to keep me calm, put my food in the backseat, waited for me to be in my car, and then left after making sure I was ok. He was so kind and handled it so well, and I feel like something would have happened if he didn't come with me, and I am deeply grateful to him for his help. The people that I thought were following me left with their car when they saw him walking me to my car, and I'd seen a worker from the place that made me feel unsafe come into the restaurant right after I went inside, and he handled the situation so well. So, to the owner or the guy working sometime around 8pm on 8/16/2024, thank you so much, seriously. I'll be getting food at some point from you when I feel safe in the area again, and if you're there, I'll thank you in person.

The owner is so attentive and nice and will go around making sure the food is good. I also noticed that he gave the DoorDash drivers, Uber drivers, etc a soda for the road, which I think shows the wholesome character of the owner.

DON"T GET SCAMMED: Sub par food, rude customer service. I placed an order for takeout and asked for my order to be well done. The owner starts ranting about how all their food is well done and they do not serve raw meat. When I arrived at the restaurant 40 minutes after placing the order, I was told by the owner they did not have half of my order (ironically the same dish he was ranting about).

He then told me to find something else to eat on the menu, attempting to upsell me the more expensive dishes. He will be obnoxiously loud and animated intentionally drawing attention to the interaction with you as though he is trying to embarrass/shame you into ordering something. It was like some kind of social bullying. I saw him pull this same scam on a young woman 1 month ago and I was in line behind her. I doubt he pulls this scam on men. I remember thinking I have never seen a restaurant wait until the customer arrives to tell them they are missing the entire order or a significant portion of the order and then try and bully them into ordering something else.

This shows a lack of honesty, integrity and issues with greed. Most restaurants will call you soon after the order is placed and notify you so you have the opportunity to cancel the order, substitute, etc. But he intentionally waits until you arrive and then pigeon holes you into ordering a dish you had no intention of buying that day. If I had been informed in a timely manner I would have placed the order at another thai restaurant (close by) that would have successfully filled the order.

This is a scheme to keep customers from taking their money and business elsewhere. But this shows a lack of respect for the customers time and money. After experiencing this myself I will never order from or patronize Thai 55 again as I believe these are dishonest, low integrity and greedy tactics.

Just went back to Thai 55 in Durham, NC. This is a fantastic place to go to for authentic Thai food. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere made me feel I was in Bangkok. Highly recommend this incredible restaurant.

This is my first time getting Thai food and the flavors and quality of the food was excellent!
My husband said that he has been in some places but this was one of the best and most authentic.
When you go to most restaurants and you ask for Thai spice they are always under whelming, this was the real thing. This is a great place and recommend anyone wanting real Thai Food.

BJ, the owner has an amazing personality and wants to know you as an individual, we were sitting there and as people came in he recognize them by name and was extremely friendly!

The portions of food were great and the price was affordable.

We ate:
1. Larb chicken wich was Authentic and Excellent.
2. Papaya Salad was flavorful and amazing.
3. Potstickers were delicious and the sauce was i credible.
4. Dumplings were full of meat and extremely delicious and we had 2 orders.
5. The Pad Thai was authentic.
6. Both dessert were delicious!!

I love this little spot so much. The food is fresh, beautiful to look at and so yummy. My favorite dish is the red curry with duck, but you can’t go wrong. The owner is incredible, working the back front phones & everything in between. He’s very friendly and will learn your face when you return. It might take a few minutes to get menus and your order, but the food comes out fast.

Killer food, great service, and whether you eat in (or pick it up yourself) it's always a solid option. (Be careful with the space levels). Keep up the great work!

We stopped by here on our travels from Helen Georgia to Wilmington. My wife was craving some Thai food and this is what she found. BJ took care of us at the restaurant. When I say he took care of us, I mean he accommodated our family of 5 in ways we couldn’t even imagine. It was such a homie feel. He adapted the menu for our kids and he was attentive to every one of their needs. Even before we left, he gave us drinks for the road and made sure we were taken care of prior to our departure. He made it a point to get all of our names and wish us a safe travel. The love this man showed to us was amazing and we hope you experience the same thing when you dine here. The food was great! Everything was fresh to order and very flavorful.

I had a late work night and got to Thai55 about 3 minutes before closing. I was to fly out the next morning and when I mentioned that’ BJ offered me an order that wasn’t picked up. And it was delicious! BJ was very helpful even though the kitchen was closed making sure I left with something to eat. Truly appreciated it! I’ll visit next time in the RTP.

Spicy beef salad and Lamb Krapow are my favorites! Great service. Just be patient, the waiter is a one-man show.

I love Thai 55. I have ordered their massamam curry over and over. It is SO delicious and has a little spice but not overwhelming for someone with low spice tolerance. Food is prepared quickly, so it doesn't take long to arrive when ordering from uber eats.

I'm giving 4 stars because the rice is sub-par 8/10 times. It's typically too dry and crunchy, but today, it was too wet and mushy. When the rice is arguably the most important or second important part of the dish, it needs to be done right!

We also enjoy the egg rolls and pad Thai. A few times, they have been out of dumplings and subbed something else- fun to try something different instead of just not getting an appetizer. I've also been sent a free soda once or twice which is lovely! ❤️

All of their food is amazing. Use door dash if ordering takeout though as it's much faster.

I got food poisoning. The beef had a strong smell of ammonia. Could eat took 2 bite through out all the beef. After searching on google it says beef smells like ammonia when it’s goes bad. Most likely it was date over meat or left outside.

Very tasty, seems pretty authentic with a fairly expansive dinner menu of Thai dishes. Asked for "medium" spice in my Pad Thai and it was VERY spicy, so I'd recommend you ask for "mild" if you want some spice but also still feel your mouth. 😁 Creamy and delicious thai iced tea. Will definitely come back and try again. They can also make some dishes vegetarian, just ask.

Went in on a whim during a trip to drop someone off at the airport. BJ was awesome and patient with my kids while we were waiting for the food. The food was absolutely fantastic, we got the pad Thai, the yellow curry, Panang curry, pineapple fried rice and a Thai tea. I wish I lived closer because that would be my go to place! Some of the best Thai food in the Triangle! My wife and I live in Philly now but were visiting and decided to drop by. They have a new location but the food is just as good as I remember it! Quick tip - be careful with the spice levels. When they say spicy, they mean SPICY! Anything above level 2 (it goes from 1-5) is absolute flames. Give them a try!

We ordered delivery from here. The packaging was superb, they wrapped the containers in Saran Wrap to keep the products from leaking. The taste of the panang curry was absolutely amazing. My sister ordered the spicy cashew nut and it was amazing as well. We tried each others dishes and both agreed that the spice level was on point (we asked for hot/spicy). It’s nice when you actually get spicy food! It was the perfect amount of spice. We also had the crab angels and they were SO GOOD!! Will 100% be getting food from them again!!

This spot is tucked away in a corner and is hard to see but it is very nice inside and clean. Very friendly gentleman, BJ, took care of us while we stopped in for dinner, the spring rolls and satay were very flavorful and steaming hot. We ordered the duck noodle soup and the duck was so tender you could eat it with a spoon. The mild Thai noodles we ordered were spicier than we could handle and they kindly remade it. I will be back

I use to live in Thailand, so finding good and authentic Thai food has been hard. However, Thai 55 made me feel like I was back in Thailand! I recommend the Pad Won Sen Gai (glass noodles with chicken). I have not found that dish at other Thai restaurants. BJ, the owner is also super sweet and a joy to talk to! When I come back to this area I will definitely make sure to grab a meal at Thai 55!

For take out, Thai 55 is really good and has some generous proportions. For dine-in, the move to a new place hasn't particularly helped the experience. For me, we waited well over an hour and a half while there were only a few people seated. This has been a common experience over the past couple of years that service is on the slow side and visits to make sure water/soda is refilled are infrequent.

The owner is nice though and I think they have the best banana roti in the area. But I'd stick to take out over delivery. Their website is great for take out or delivery, though the delivery option has been disabled for some time.

Ordered takeout with BJ and met him when I picked up my order just before closing. Super friendly guy!

I wanted to have leftovers for later and ordered 3 dishes.
A) Tofu / basil fried rice : onions, fresh green beans, basil with egg. Love the fresh green beans, quite crunchy without being raw.
B) Tofu / Pad See Ew : broccoli florets. Very fresh and lightly crunchy, not overcooked at all.
C) Drunken seafood : mussels, scallops, large shrimp, and squid with red & green bell peppers plus noodles. I didn't realize this dish had thick rice noodles, I probably didn't need my other noodle dish.

Place seemed to be a family run Thai place. Located in the same lot as the Exxon gas station (until they move locations next year). Easy to drive up to and not hard to find.

I really enjoyed the seafood noodle entree, I'll definitely be back!

In my opinion..best Thai restaurant in Durham!

The owner is ridiculously friendly and has such a positive attitude. The food is phenominal I always get the Pad See Ew and the Tom Kha. Try the Thai iced tea too if you like sweet tea this is way better!

Authentic Thai food. The atmosphere is quaint and peaceful. The food was very, very good. I had the Tom Kha Ga soup and Thai BbQ chicken. It was intoxicating. I asked about my favorite Thai dishes not on the menu...just ask and they will try to accommodate.

We are writing this publicly because we have attempted to contact this establishment about our experience and received no response. My wife had an awful experience here ordering to go, they were extremely rude about my food allergies. While ordering food on the phone, the gentleman taking her order went on a rant about how unknowledgeable we were about Thai food because we double checked that there was no mayo in the dishes. He seemed outraged we even could entertain the idea they put mayo in their food even though it was our first time visiting the restaurant. Then at pick up, we double checked about the nut allergy (because my allergy is serious and I will go into anaphylaxis if I eat nuts), and he proceeded to berate my wife for asking, he kept saying over and over “I’ve told you 3 times” and talking over her and not letting her speak. He had not told her anything 3 times and even if he had, it’s much easier to just answer the question again than pick a fight with a customer who’s merely trying to keep their husband alive. Very aggressive and dismissive of a deadly food allergy. Will not be coming again.

Love doing gig delivery for them. Friendly and you can tell they care about their customers!

This place is a local favorite. The atmosphere was cute and comfortable. The service was great! The owners are fabulous and it shows in their staff. We were happy we stumbled into this place. We certainly understand why it is a popular place with the locals.

They expensive and you get 2 Shrimp Really not worth it

What a wonderful place with the most spectacular food. The man who runs this restaurant is so nice, he remembered me after just a few visits. Literally my favorite restaurant, you won't find better food on 55.

Had an amazing roast duck in red curry! The staff was extremely kind and helpful. They went above and beyond with my takeout order. If I am back in the area I will be sure to visit Thai 55 again.

We do a lot of road trips and try to support locally owned restaurants. Give Thai 55 a try. We ordered 2 dishes for carry out. The owner made sure mine was "not too spicy." He added an extra kick to my husbands dish (just the way he likes it). The flavors all blended together perfectly. We both enjoyed our meals. The owner is super friendly and happy to chat with you. He loves talking about playing golf.

I don't have much experience with Thai food but I'm determined to find something I enjoy. I wish I would have tried the Pad Thai to compare other Thai places to get a sense but tried the BBQ chicken and shrimp fried rice instead. The waiter was pleasant, and I enjoyed the sweet and sour soup that was served.

I have eaten here three times now and the food has always been on-point and authentic, with generous portion sizes. There is great variety on the menu, so there is something for everyone. The restaurant serves wine and sake, which is a plus when dining here for dinner. The servers are also very courteous and friendly. Love this place.

Over priced a d food is so so with lots of filler to bulk up the quantity

I have been going here for awhile. Good food and and always had good service UNTIL TODAY. I ordered food for pick-up using their online app service. They called me back saying my order has to be cancelled and done again because they do not service lunch portion of one of the dishes. I asked if there was another way since I could not cancel the order on their online service (no option to do so).

They wouldn't just make the food and give me a smaller portion, or just allow me to pay the difference when I went to pick it up. The only way was for me to cancel it myself and redo the order.

They said I needed to show up to the restuarant to get the refund. I did and then told us that they couldn't give us a refund because the order didn't go through?!?

I don't know what the heck is going on with their online service... BUT DO NOT USE THEIR ONLINE ORDERING SERVICE...GOD HELP YOU IF MESS UP YOUR ORDER.

I am never going back to this place after the customer service I received from them today. Today's experience was absolutely ridiculous.

Friendly staff and excellent food if you like Thai.. Spice levels are a little on the high side.. so, if you want to order the Thai Hot like we did, you better be able to take it.. I liked the spice levels though. Especially liked the Sake wine.

Absolutely Delicious 😋 😍. Thai food here is on target and there is a multitude of choices for every palate. All variation of hot so if you are afraid of spicy don't be; not hot to very hot is here. So you have a choice. If you want something different and tasty this is where to go!
Please note that they will be moving from this location sometime in September not too far away.

I ordered beef pad thai but the order that was delivered had shrimp. I paid extra for beef pad thai. Also, the pad thai didn’t have sprouts or green onion. Totally disappointed.

The little dude was very rude. He just earned a bad review though the food was okay.

I usually like this place. Had a disturbing experience when I discovered cloth-like material fibers on the broccoli and fish I ordered halfway through eating the dish. The fibers were woven throughout the remaining entree but hidden under the sauce. I showed the restaurant, and they acknowledged the strange material. They would not show or explain how it was prepped to make contact with this material. They tried blaming the supplier. No refund offered. No apologies. Just disturbing and disappointing. It pains me to write this about a local restaurant after the past year, but people should know.

The food is great the customer service is so terrible . I’m not sure if they don’t like black people or what and it’s not the woman it’s the bald headed man at the front . He gives me a difficult time all the time . I’m going to find somewhere else to go because it’s not ok . I’ve only continued to go because I truly enjoy their drunken noodles but I won’t continue to patronize a business that is so rude . They forgot my peanut sauce and he gave me an attitude . You would think he had to go and harvest the peanuts himself how nasty he was . I’m so upset . If your looking for a quality experience this isn’t the place .

Horrible food and reflects why when you speak with the guy who runs this place. Super Arrogant and he will have to pretty much argue on everything. He hangs up the phone on customers. Also the food is pricey and doesn’t reflect on the portion which is Lol!
