Sushi restaurant
Went here for a birthday dinner so we had a big party. We had a long wait but when we finally were seated, they were very accommodating. Sushi was excellent, pricey but BOGO free. Very unique dishes with good portion sizes. Small place, cold air blows in which isn't fabulous but we didn't notice it too much once we were seated. Seems like it would be nice for takeout also, lots of folks were doing that while we were waiting.
Ordered $80 worth of sushi for a dinner party because of their BOGO, did not know they did not honor it if via delivery apps. Called to see if they would make it right if I came to pick up myself but were very quickly dismissive. I’m very disappointed to say the least. Will not be ordering from here again.
Included picture, very small amount from strip mall sushi.
Decided to give this place a try.
Service was good and prompt. Food was not too bad. Has the calamari, shrimp Tom yum, Thai basil chicken, special salmon roll and the green roll.
Calamari was a little overcooked - tough. The rest of food was good.
I am unsure if they would allow us to choose the spice level of the food. But that would honestly be ideal if it could be done.
Will definitely be back again!
Sushi is always a hit with the family. Today we ordered off the menu and were not disappointed. Prices may seem high at first glance but the portion size leaves you with at least two meals worth of leftovers.
Came here at the recommendation of some friends, and it was really good. Probably my most favorite aspect of Sushi Iwa is that their sushi menu has detailed pictures and cross-sections of every single roll, so you know exactly what you’ll be ordering. That helps a ton especially if you are eager to try something new but aren’t sure what to try. I wish more sushi restaurants did this!
Overall, I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice sushi dinner.

Love the creativity of the specialty rolls.

All you would expect. From a sushi place
Fue una cita con mi esposo y me sentí muy comoda. La comida rica, servicio amable y ágil.
Great sushi
Great food, excellent portions
The atmosphere was nice, had a short 5 or 6 minute wait due to how busy it was, but we were quickly seated and taken care of by our waitress. I ordered the Steamed Gyoza as an appetizer and it was delicious. For my main course I had the All American, and Iwa Fusion rolls. Both came out as described in the menu, and were a treat to dine on. My beautiful wife ordered the Brother in arms roll, and the Green roll, both were great. I also ordered a side order of lo mein and it came out hot and fresh tasting, the portion size was a bit bigger than anticipated however, though not a bad thing.
I don't leave reviews for places often, but this was so bad that I felt like I needed to. Our waitress was very nice, but the sushi was so bad. One of my rolls was falling apart and the tempura inside was burnt. For my other roll, it was the one with a slight sear on the rice and with seared beef on top. The rice was near charred, and again it was falling apart. My partner asked for spicy mayonaise. We saw it was brown, but tried it anyways. It tasted rancid, and we are almost positive it was spoiled. The other reviews looked great, but unfortunately this was our genuine experience. We will most likely not come back.
Very nice meal
Get something basic like general tso's chicken and it'll be dang good. Not a fan of their soups except hot and sour. Sushi is sushi.
Always busy but really popular. Super nice staff
It's true what they say—a restaurant is only as good as your last visit. I had been here before, and the food was just okay. Not bad enough to leave a negative review, but not good enough to leave a glowing one either. This time, though, my wife and I both got food poisoning after eating the steak fried rice. The rest of the group didn’t have the same dish and didn’t get sick, but within 30 to 45 minutes of eating, we both started having issues.
It could be a one-off thing, but I’m definitely not willing to take the chance again.
I’m giving it two stars because the food was okay the last time I came. Otherwise, it would be a one-star review.
I don’t eat meat so I love that there are a few vegetable sushi options on the menu. They have a very wide and diverse menu of food options but i stick to my veggie sushi rolls.

Great service, food was wonderful!!
Very friendly staff. The place is always packed and the food is amazing.
Unfortunately the past few times I’ve been to this place, it has been a less than pleasant experience. Whenever I am able to get a table, or take out, the last three times my order has been incorrect. The manager seems very rude and dismissive whenever this is brought to anyone’s attention, when there is a manager even on sight (sometimes there isn’t?). This past experience I arrived at 8:50 to get a table, the restaurant closes at 9:30. I politely asked for a table and they refused to seat me because the close at 9:30. I asked what time they stop seating and they said 9pm. I then said politely it’s 8:50… and he just looked at me and said no we aren’t seating you at this time. How is this okay?
Always great service and excellent food.
This newly remodeled hidden Sushi gem was delicious. It was our first time there and we will definitely go back. We ordered four specilty rolls and lettuce wraps, absolutely delicious. Good service and good food gets a five star in my book.
General Cho's Chicken was huge chucks of chewy cartilage filled chicken, General chos should be small pieces of chicken thinly breaded to give the perfect mouthful and combination of chewy and crunchy textures, the pieces of chicken I was given were huge pieces that were basically inedible, I will not be returning to this establishment anytime soon. Cant comment on service or Atmosphere so full marks there but yeh food had me wanting my money back/ wishing I had never gone here.
Excellent. Our go-to for Asian cuisine. The service is always very good. We go often.
Best restaurant in Clayton period. Good quality which is almost impossible to come by in Clayton. Thank God for sushi iwa!
I would admit the food was pretty good, but the price was also pretty insane. I paid 28$ for 1 La fiesta roll and eel sauce. I ordered through UberEats and it was suppose to be BOGO (as listed on UberEats and their own website) which would have been a lot more reasonable, but when I received the food, it was only 1 single roll and my eel sauce. I called them to ask as it said BOGO on the UberEats website and was told that because it was through UberEats, it’s not BOGO anymore because 3rd party delivery charges the restaurant a fee. However, the roll itself was already marked up by the merchant anyways which should cancel out the commission paid to UberEats (instore roll price was 22$ and UberEats was 26$) so it doesn’t make sense to not offer BOGO. A more reasonable approach the restaurant can do if they do not offer BOGO is to make the rolls half price and markup as they need to cover for the commission to UberEats instead of marking up to cover for commission and providing only half of the order. Just a suggestion for the business and an advice to customers to not order Rolls through UberEats. Lastly, the 28$ did not include the delivery and other fees charged by UberEats (so if you are curious how much I paid in total for a single 8 piece roll and a side of sauce, it was more closer to 40$ :) Lesson learned!
Best sushi in town!
Recently went here for my daughter's 13th birthday dinner. The whole family had a wonderful time, and the food was amazing! Portions are large, and we had plenty of leftovers that we enjoyed later. Service is wonderful, and we have never had a bad experience or dish coming here.
to go order of hibachi and drunken noodles, the food was as delicious. Large, fresh shrimp, fresh vegetables, tasty subtle sauce. Will definitely be back, but I may show up a little later next time.
Update: Ive returned many times and the food has always been ready on time since that first visit.
Any sushi menu with pictures deserves an extra star, in my humble opinion. I was hesitant because of the 3.5 star rating on yelp, but this place was fantastic! The service was prompt and courteous. The sushi was delicious-I wish I’d taken a photo. We also had a house salad and miso soup-also great. We will definitely be returning
The Crab Rangoons and the Forever Young roll are soooooo good. I went on Wednesday and got the Bogo deal. Best rolls I have ever had.
The Host and Hostess were amazing specifically Josh, he greeted us and was very kind to us. Explained the menu very professionally.
The Host and Hostess were amazing specifically Nik he greeted us and was very kind to us. Explained the menu very professionally.
The Host and Hostess were amazing specifically Marco he greeted us and was very kind to us. Explained the menu very professionally.
Warning: parties are rushed out the door, even when dropping $500! However, sushi & knowledge of were excellent. Most sauces and toppings have wheat. Edamame not cooked.
Only giving a 2 star service review because the manager was a lot more attentive than our waitress and it was greatly appreciated.
It's decent sushi, nothing fancy. The bogo price is already accounted for, considering the rolls are 20 dollars each. The portions are good, the sushi rolls didn't have much flavor and the menu is too big and was kinda grimy/moldy looking. The service staff was nice and attentive.
Food was delicious with very good portion sizes. Service was fast and welcoming. It is Family friendly and enough TVs to watch any games going on.
The selection is awesome lots of rolls and unique flavors.
Good place to have sushi! Nice service and friendly.
The host ignored me and tried to help people behind me in line before talking to me. The food was not good. The rice in the sushi tasted stale, my soda was flat, the avocado tasted like it was past it prime and the fish tasted off. My waitress was very kind and attentive, and explained how their bogo sushi works. The food just sucked.
not worth gong the prices are crazy they have bogo so i bought 1 roll and my bill was 24 dollars the roll was on the smaller size on the bright side the sushi was fresh lots of choices in the area and ill be choosing some where else next time i want sushi
Can't say enough positive stuff about this place. First off BOGO sushi is ALWAYS a win. second the crab Rangoon is top tier. the payday is my favorite roll and the Singapore Rice noodles add chicken has me in a chokehold. it's always enough for leftovers! it's good stuff for real!!
Very poor experience! The server was rude. She looked at me and rolled her eyes before she greeted me. That sucks! I’ve eaten there once before so I thought I’d try it again.Bad decision! They only get one star because it takes one star to leave the review!
I ordered Togo today. The pad see eew is delicious 🤤. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi chicken, I wasn't aware of the zucchini and onion as we hadn't ordered here before so next time I will just order him brown rice and chicken. We both love the Malaysia spring rolls, will order next time, and the hot and sour soup is also really good.i found out they have yellow coconut curry and it's also delectable. The sesame chicken is on point.
I haven't eaten sushi in a long time, and I crushed some today. I am a negiri guy, and it was delicious. They have a two for one but it must be for certain items. If they had quail egg, Iwa could be a regular stop
Good food and service.. Awesome 🌟
Amazing little sushi restaurant. Ami is the best. A bubbly delight of a human. Great service. Super food and very reasonably priced.
I was eating my food and I glanced at the front where they prepare takeout orders and seat customers. I saw an employee vaping while on here phone. I was blown away.
I got the Seaweed Salad, delicious!!
Ima be honest . The front desk was no help with figure the menu out on what is vegan friendly. Nowadays they just hire people and don’t prep them on the nutrition part of the menu etc. allergens are important especially with how trigger happy customers are with suing establishment for just about ANYTHING. The staff looked young. They didn’t know the menu. Their was minimal help from the senior staff as well . And when I finally got the food it was not anything special.
Great sushi
One of my favorite sushi places around
Absolutely the best sushi restaurant around. Service and food are amazing.
Always a good experience at Sushi Iwa. The food quality and menu selection are fantastic! I order takeout mostly, but decided to dine at the restaurant recently. I received the same great quality of food I’ve come to expect in addition to some great service from the wait staff. So glad to have a location in Clayton!
Delicious sushi !
I love this place. Waitress was knowledgeable and really friendly.
Great Asian food and sushi/sashimi- always busy because its a great little restaurant. I like the way they serve the sashimi with vegetables and it always taste fresh.
Not a very pleasant experience in reference to take out. Called in an order which I was told would be ready in 20-30 minutes. I show up 35-40 mins later to pick up order and it still wasn’t ready due to sushi not being prepared. So waiting around the restaurant for another 30 minutes, which should’ve only took 10 minutes max for a wait time, was ridiculous. Nonetheless, we waited over an hour on our food for take out, and when we got home, we realized we were missing majority of our sauces or had the wrong sauces; along with the other hibachi we ordered was cold after it sat for so long!! Anyway, This was a pretty bad experience overall, not sure I’d recommend these guys at this point. But these people seemed to not care, and be adamant that we were wrong somehow. Lol. I’ve worked plenty enough in food to know to show respect the customer and always go by “the customers always right”, even when their wrong. Zero apologies for the wait though, and if anything we got attitude from them; so yeah… *BOOOO!!* 👎🏻
This is a favorite!
Good food
I’m not writing this to be a bad review but I think my experience was really funny. I went in and got two sushi rolls one of which I asked for cucumber to be added. After getting home and opening my container I realized that there had been a miscommunications. Instead of having a regular sushi roll with cucumber added, I received eel and shrimp wrapped in cucumber (no rice or seaweed 🥲). I ate it anyway and it was actually good but definitely not what I thought I ordered. Thought I’d share because I thought the whole situation was funny.
Sushi was just okay, the tempura was stale, the crab Rangoon was good though
I brough my daughter here, our waiter was very kind and understanding, she didn't check up on us much though, so about half way through the meal, another waiter had to refill my drink in her place. On the other hand the food was not great. Their avocado ratio is through the roof. My daughter said hers were not great to. I would not eat there again. My rolls were soggy, not very good tasting, and not to mention their ginger was absolutely horrible! I recommend going to Lowes foods sushi section, trust me it's ten times better and 20 times cheaper!
Delicious food and good/friendly/efficient
service. Highly recommend the vegetable tempura roll.
I have never had a bad experience the way time even when it’s busy it’s always decent. The buy one get one deal is phenomenal. Great food!
Food was amazing!!
It used to be a nice place. The last few times I have gone here, the food quality was not what I was used to. The shrimp were slimy
Great experience
Do not get the pho!! Cost almost 20 bucks for only meatball and beef flanks. Taste exactly like instant pho packet. Noodles are very soggy.
Place is great. Ordering takeout is tricky; hard to get the 2 for 1 to wy
First time visiting the store buying lunch for my mom. Loved the food and taste, everything we ordered tasted fresh and was hot spite being an online order. I will definitely be back and will give rating 5 stars once I have a dine in experience.
Went there with my daughter and grandsons for lunch. The guy at the front looked like he just crawled out from under a box in the street and the tables were basic, and floor full of food. Ordered sushi rolls. Terrible quality and even though “buy 1 get 1 free” it was inedible and expensive. $160+ for 5 for people and terrible quality. Ate less than half and left.
Half of our order showed up via Uber eats. Called Sushi Iwa and they had no solution other than us coming to pick up the balance of our order. No refund, no apology, no solution to get us the food. Getting credit back has been another challenge. Customer service was argumentative. Horrible
This was our second trip. The lettuce wraps are a family favorite. Sesame chicken was on point.
The food is good the place is dirty.
Impressive
It's OK. Sushi is pretty great. Service depends on who you get. Prices have gotten outrageous.
Wrong order, wayyyyy to expensive and when I wrote about the issues I got no reply. A 20$ roll had 6 falling apart pieces. So disappointing
Love the BOGO sushi. This place is always packed so you know it’s tasty!
I Love this place...great selection and atmosphere...I can call in and it is always ready...and we dined in for our anniversary and had a joyous experience 😀
Huge portions...great food. Highly recommend.
Hidden gem in Clayton! Huge portions, delish and huge menu of a little bit of anything. Will be back
Best sushi and crab Rangoons in Clayton. The Mongolian beef is so good!
BOGO sushi was amazing! The crab Rangoon was the best! Our waitress was so friendly and helped us choose delicious sushi. We will be back!
I hate to say this but the food was unappetizing . Very very bland and the chicken had a strange texture. First time eating here and I threw my order away. Never in life have I done that.
Ordered take out. Made a few modifications and order was perfect when I picked it up. They even called me to double check my modifications! Food was excellent quality. Front staff was friendly and quick.
Good food. A little pricey.
I have been going here for about a month. The pho is 🔥very good. Vietnamese spring rolls are also very good. But they have several menu options 😊
The sushi was delish waitress did a good job
Every dish comes with rice and choice of salad or soup. Kind of stupid if you ask me, but the food is very good.
Worst experience ever!!!!!!!!!
First time going. Went with some family that eat here alot. Friendly staff, good food and good prices. There was to much food to eat, had to take some home. Definitely give them a try if you are in the area.
Always excellent.
Food is great but do not bother ordering take out. They will blame their “new system”, but take 1:20 to make fried rice and not apologize.
The food is alright, the menu is quite large so it questions what is fresh and what is frozen
I have always loved this place! The blue roll is one of my favs! Sesame chicken is amazing too! Just went there this evening, and Tasha has to be my fav! She is always smiling and very attentive to detail!
I gotta say, I was blown away by Sushi Iwa in Clayton. Since I moved from California, I've been on the hunt for that top-notch sushi experience I thought I left behind. And wow, did I find it here! Chef Junior is a rockstar – his rolls are out of this world. They brought me right back to Cali with every bite.
Not only were the rolls amazing, but they also had fresh wasabi root. I mean, fresh! I was totally not expecting that, and it was such a cool surprise. It took the whole sushi game up another notch. Chef Junior’s talent is obvious; he's putting out some seriously delicious art on a plate. And the vibe in there? So chill and friendly, just what you want when you’re about to dive into some serious sushi.
So yeah, if you’re looking for that California sushi bar feel with some seriously mind-blowing tastes, hit up Sushi Iwa. You won't be disappointed. Junior and the team are serving up some serious magic. Can’t wait to go back!
OMG...best and biggest selection of sushi I have seen anywhere around Central Nc...Sushi was great, portions were large for sushi, and even larger for the hibachi which was also very good....Buy one get 1 free foe the sushi makes it well worth the trip!
We always enjoy getting sushi here. Prices have increased but BOGO still is great. Kids portions are very generous too.
Huge selection of rolls. Very good Sushi!
This place is great! Buy one, get one free sushi rolls is always a great deal. The food is also great. It's a little on the small side, so if you have larger parties come early.
I've tried multiple dishes from the menu (the menu has pictures of EVERY item, looking just like the pic) & it has always been great. The portion size for supper items is quite large, so be prepared for leftovers! Service is always good, considering the limited staff (waitresses are always polite & helpful). The owner is very friendly & helpful when asked about the menu.
Food was delicious but both me and my friend had stomach problems immediately after.. Maybe we got a bad plate but I never get like this!
Good sushi and very reasonable prices.
I’m not usually one to give reviews at all good or bad but parents beware, there’s no changing table in the restaurant and the high chairs do not have proper buckles to strap your child in. My fiancé and I were struggling to keep our niece from jumping out of the high chair so much that we didn’t even finish our food. Service was mid at best, you could tell the owner or manager wasnt there. Sushi was ok, good flavor but every roll unraveled when picked up and the price was outrageous. Will not be going back.
I frequently eat there and it's always consistent. The house special Lo Mein is the best I've ever had. Sushi is always good. Wasabi could be spicier and the dining room could be refreshed but always good.
Fresh sushi
My spouse and I were so excited to try this establishment based on the current reviews, but completely disappointed.
The crab Rangoons tasted off, the edamame beans were way too salty, and the potstickers were okay. The sushi was priced a little too high for the quality (California roll was $16, speciality rolls were $20-$23 each). My spouse ordered a side of vegetable lo mein, and it ended up tasting like shrimp.
The atmosphere was not what you would expect out of a traditional sushi place, I would give it a 0/5 stars- I feel like it was catered to traditional American style restaurant. The menus were gross and sticky to the touch as well.
The only good part was that our servers were very nice (shoutout to them!) and the sushi rolls were buy one, get one free.
All in all, for the quality of the food, it was not worth $133.
This place is average at very best and extremely over priced. Last time I ordered they gave me no soy sauce. This time no wasabi or ginger…. How do you work at a sushi restaurant and forget to include wasabi? I really hope Clayton gets a competitor because this place is garbage. Allow me now to enjoy my average sushi with no wasabi.
Sushi is fresh and good, MANY items to choose from on the menu. They have a BOGO on all sushi from the sheet, but watch how you handle your order or you will get cheated out of a lot of money.
This place has the biggest selection of sushi and options to eat. I had the General Tsos Chicken and best in the area.
Great food
We had a older male waiter and he was not welcoming nor did he seem happy to care for us. My daughter wanted to know if she could have veggies with her kids meal and was denied with no options.
We've been before and love the food but the service this time was quite unwelcoming.
My husband and I come here all the time for a filling yet affordable lunch/dinner. It's an amazing place, the people are very polite, and the food is so delicious especially their ramen bowls. I highly advise to come here and give them a chance.
Amazing
I live one town over from this location and can say it's my first choice for eating out.
This was our first time eating here. I got carry out, so I'm not rating the service or atmosphere. The menu was extensive, tons of options. The food was really good, and the portions were quite large.
Had Mongolian beef per recommendation by waitress. It was absolutely delicious! 'Will definitely be going back. My compliments to the chef. Great customer service! Very accommodating for children
Ordered through Uber Eats and my food was still fresh! Everything tasted great and I’ll definitely be ordering again.
