WNC’s Favorite Thai Restaurant Serving Authentic Thai Cuisine Right In Downtown Asheville With Fantastic Service, Excellent Flavors, & Beautiful Presentation!
I arrived at 8pm and while there was one table occupied, they were cleaning the place. I wasn't sure if they were open. I was shown to a table, only to be redirected to another when the host realized that the table hadn't been cleaned properly. They brought me the menu and I quickly decided. The waitress arrived at the booth, but stood to my side making me have to almost look behind me to place my order. I ordered the Penang curry with chicken. It arrived quickly enough and was piping hot. The curry sauce was good, but nothing stood out. The chicken however was dry and chewy.
WOW! I love a good Thai spot but this place is just phenomenal. I ordered the steamed dumplings and mussaman curry with beef and I savored every moment of the meal. I want to try the papaya salad and chicken skewers another time. And the mango sticky rice looked yummy. I recommend this place if you live in Asheville, or just a passer through like me! Khawp khun krap (thank you!)!!
The calm atmosphere, music, and friendly staff truly make this a gem.
We ordered the steamed dumplings and calamari as appetizers and both were really tasty and nice to share between 4 people. I originally ordered the duck noodle soup as my entree and after everyone else got their food, the waitress told me they had just ran out of duck with the large party before us. I told her it was fine and she recommended the drunken noodles which she told me she would ask the kitchen to rush out. In the meantime, our waitress brought us another sake on the house for the minor inconvenience (which really wasn’t necessary but greatly appreciated!). My noodles came out quick and were so fresh and delicious. I also tried my friend’s green curry which was full of great flavor. At the end of the meal, our waitress brought out some fried plantains (also on the house!) that were also great. We all really enjoyed our food and just really appreciated our server going above and beyond to give us a wonderful experience. We will definitely be coming back!!
I walked in with a to-go order. I ordered when I was ready, it was available in less than 6 mins. It was delicious and the staff answered all questions that I asked. I got the Pad Woon Sen with pork, SO good! The menu may say 'grass' noodle but it is a 'glass' noodle, I believe. I could be wrong, but I got hung up on that while ordering and thought I'd pass it along.
Suwana’s Thai Orchid is hands down the best Thai spot in Asheville, and most definitely the most authentic spot in the area! The food is fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The Pad Thai and Green Curry were both amazing, and the fresh rolls with peanut sauce were the perfect start.
The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is top-notch: friendly, attentive, and super helpful with spice levels. If you’re craving authentic Thai food, this place is a must. Can’t wait to come back!
During a recent visit to Asheville, my friends and I had the pleasure of dining at this establishment. The service was exceptional; the waitress was not only friendly and attentive but also infused a delightful sense of humor and charm into our experience. Our meals arrived promptly and exceeded expectations in both quality and flavor. Initially, I was uncertain about trying the restaurant due to its seemingly quiet atmosphere, but it quickly became clear that this is a hidden gem. It’s a mystery why more people aren’t frequenting such a wonderful spot, especially considering the outstanding service and delicious food on offer.
The food is wonderful and the staff is very kind and polite.
Very good and directly across from our hotel. Efficient and delightful service. More people should try it out.
New owners are very friendly. Food was very yummy and the lunch special is a great deal!
EXCEPTIONAL! Work across the street and choose to eat from there at least once a week :)
On behalf of my partner Jenn: 10/10!!!
Amazing curry and owner is super nice and awesome!
We eat here for Thai when visiting Asheville! The drunken noodles are amazing and spring rolls are very tasty! Atmosphere is calm and chill and the staff is very pleasant!
Best place in town! Open late, good food!
The best Thai restaurant around!
Drunken noodles were excellent and the service was great. Highly recommended
A good thai spot is always good to have, that's for sure. Will try more of their specialty dishes next time, but wanted to see how they did their thai comfort foods.
Had the drunken noodles half/half with chicken and tofu, spicy level 3, which was perfect for me, and it was delicious and the waitstaff pretty friendly. The food also came out really quick, too. Loved it all, hope they continue to do well :)
A delicious meal from start to finish! The steamed dumplings are a must!
Very good, friendly staff, and quick service. Open on Monday
The people there were really nice, food was amazing and service was quick!
Been going here off and on for so many years. Love Wannol she is so kind,
So happy I found this place during my visit to Asheville. Lovely gracious staff, fantastic food, and great atmosphere. You should go!
Lunch box was great and well priced. Drunken noodles are the way to go.
So amazing! The food was super fresh, great flavors and our service was handled by top notch beautiful women!
My new favorite Thai place!
Drunken noodles all the way

Blatant racism stories from this restaurant
This place hit the spot. Got the lunch deal with spicy fried rice with chicken. Affordable and well prepared. The staff was also very pleasant. Would definitely go here again for my Thai fix.

Delicious Thai dishes, lovely staff ❤️
Reasonable prices.
Best I've found in AVL. The basics are better than you'd expect and the unique dishes are phenomenal.
The best Thai food in town!!
Amazing food and great service! Thanks you for the hospitality! Get the drunken noodles, great vegan option .
Happy to find them open, with the snow forcing others to close. New ownership is awesome! Authentic Thai if you are seeking that! Made “Thai taste” for us and it was wonderful. This will be a must stop for us on our frequent trips back to Asheville to see our son. Told him to get by asap, too!
Pineapple Curry and Beef Pho were both extremely bland and mild. Everything but the Pineapple was undercooked and crunchy. The server is Thai but the cooks are white, and you can taste it. Service was slow but good, but will not be eating here again

Came in for lunch with a couple of friends. Quick service, good food, and great atmosphere. Would definitely come again!
The staff are very welcoming and kind with good service and good food as well. Great portion sizes and great food.
A downtown Asheville staple! Always tasty
The food was delicious, served hot, and the service was amazing! We will be back! Thanks!

Great vegan food! Especially the vegan pho!
My first time in the restaurant was there with a new friend. We felt comfortable. Food was palatable. Service was okay. I will go back to see if there's any inconsistencies in the food prep.
We have lived in asheville for over 20 years. This place has been our favorite for many of them! Tonight was no exception… The best stirfry and curry in town
Nice food in a nice establishment and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I was however surprised at being charged for a jasmin tea as we normally get tea free in the UK 🇬🇧 before starting the meal.
I have eaten here close to a dozen times and it is always fantastic! My favorites are the soups and spicy Thai fried rice. Service is always friendly and the atmosphere cozy. We drive an hour each way to dine here!
Love this little thai spot in heart of DT Asheville!
My favorites include their Tom Kha soup with seafood and pineapple curry. Don't forget to grab a sweet thai iced tea :)
Their sister restaurant in East asheville, Suwana Thai Cuisine is also wonderful. Whether you want to dine in or pick up take out for an evening in on the couch with some yummy food, I can't recommend enough!
Unassuming but an absolute delight !
The Thai food here is reliable and delicious! I’ve tried many different Thai places in AVL and this is the best, along with its sister restaurant Suwana Thai cuisine.
My friends rave about the curries, but I can’t help but get their Tom Kha and their pad se ew each time I’m here. Pad Thai also yummy, as are their normal appetizer.
Wash it down with a Thai iced tea, or a Thai beer!!
Great little location down town with the nicest staff!
Incredible food. Great service. Cute place. And the best Mango Sticky Rice I've ever had!
Great service and food! Come support this place
This place is awesome! Great food, service, and atmosphere.
Some of the best Pad Thai I’ve had!
Everything was good, would give 6 stars
We had the sweetest server, the food came out fast, and was so good! definetly woudl recommend thank you thai orchid 🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️
Delicious food and good portions. Definitely a favorite in AVL!
Delicious food in a friendly and relaxed environment. Would recommend to anyone!
Hands down! Best green shrimp curry I’ve ever eaten
Super yummy and cute inside! I had the red curry and it was delish
The best Thai food in Asheville. Great location. The server was so sweet. I’ve gone twice this past month!
I have tried almost every Thai restaurant in Asheville and Suwana's is most reliable and super tasty! The only Thai curry in town that reminds me of my home in Orlando (a very foodie town). The veggies are fresh and the portions are perfect size. I always get the lunch special and even that portion is good size. The servers at this restaurant are super kind and friendly; they make me want to keep coming back. Wonderful business! Downtown Asheville restaurants need your support now more than ever. 👍♥️
Wonderful food and service!
The waitress was very kind. The food was delicious and it was an enjoyable experience.
The staff is very welcoming and the food is amazing!
We have been going to Thai orchids since our kids were little. Sowanna and her team Are always friendly and do their best to make sure you enjoy your experience. The food is fresh and delicious and there is a lot of variety.
Great meal at a reasonable price. Kind and thoughtful service, also.
We visited Thai Orchid twice while visiting Asheville, the food was great and the service was even better! Our server, Wanoi, made the experience even better, she was so nice and made sure we had everything we could possibly want or need. We highly recommend this place, and you must try the beef salad, Spicy Thai rice, and the mango sticky rice, everything was excellent!!
Had a lovely experience here. Staff was friendly, food was delicious (and vegan friendly), and they’re making it work despite the challenges Asheville is experiencing right now. Highly recommend!
Massaman Curry was amazing. After a long day doing flood relief work, this place filled our bellies with quality food and pleasant ambiance. They are making it work during a time without water and low tourist traffic.
We are thankful they were open and serving tastey food during the rebuilding of WNC.
Best curry I’ve ever had! Service was amazing and you must try the mango sticky rice is AMAZING!!
Really great food. We had amazing service. Thankful they are able to open their doors amidst everything going on. Go support your local restaurants!
Really great food and excellent, friendly service. We were a group of four and had the pad wu sen (they accommodated a "light on the oil" request) cashew chicken, crispy rolls and edamame, and took home an order of mango sticky rice. We enjoyed every dish. We hope more people will give the restaurant a try!
We came in post hurricane Helene and were very pleased with the food quality even though being served on paper plates- the food speaks for itself no matter the dish ware. The green curry my wife got is her favorite in all of Asheville- she left Austin, Texas about a year ago and had not been able to find a green curry that knocked her socks off like a beloved pan- Asian restaurant she had come to adore there.
Oh, also the mango sticky rice is BOMB. Do yourself a favor and grab one!
Thank you Thai Orchid for still serving up delicious food no matter the circumstances!
Fabulous!!!
Staff were standoffish, not very friendly, and seemed to just want me gone. Took food to my hotel room and found it to be a poor red curry, chewy and dry chicken, and undercooked rice. I'm not used to having a hard crunch in my curry. Definite skip.
We were visiting from another state and have been many places to eat in varying places. Thai is one of our family favorites. If you are looking for good Thai food this is somewhere to avoid. Food was something you could eat, but not something worth ever eating again e.g wings came straight out of bag were fried and tossed in sauce, but not even that could hide the flavor of raw old unseasoned chicken. 🤮 those weren’t edible unless you are maybe drunk or high and can’t due to skewed tastebuds. The other things we got were slopped together ,horrible presentation. Service was someone checking a box felt and was giving quick stop fast food restaurant vibes. From a foodie who has done their share of enjoying a good meal, don’t do it. Waste of time! I have 2 stars because we ate some of the food.
This is not a good Thai restaurant. Food was okay but I’ve had much better Thai food. Service was pretty bad.
Love the selection of Thai dishes. We are Celiac, and they accommodate for us, every time!
Extremely kind and efficient staff with excellent foot and a variety of options. All around beautiful dining experience.
I arrived at 8pm and while there was one table occupied, they were cleaning the place. I wasn't sure if they were open. Best Thai Restaurant i am ever been.
Perfect Service and sooooo yummy original thai food.
A restaurant that you really have to come to and you will know that Thai food and service are like you are in Thailand.
Not very good thai food for kinda a high price
Great Thai food, fast service for a large group, and nice people! Get the fried rice in a pineapple!
Not so good. I will not go there again.
This restaurant is why I make the trek from Charlotte to visit Ashville. We love their curry. Pick one, they're all outstanding.
Convenient location downtown
We took a carry out order from Suwana and we're pleasantly surprised by thr quantity and quality of the food. Both yellow and green curry were cooked to perfection and their Pad Thai was terrific. We will come back for certain.
This is the best kept secret in Asheville! Amazing food! Amazing service! Highly recommend!!
DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE! First, we’re vegan and asked if the spring rolls were made with no meat, the guy had an attitude and didn’t know what was in the spring roll. Then our food comes out, the tofu was old and reheated. The curry had a nice flavor but the customer service was TERRIBLE. then once we finished our entire meal, our waiter walks up and tells us at the last minute that they were only accepting cash, which they should’ve stated BEFORE we ate. Then tells us to go across the street to the ATM to get cash. The ATM required a $4.00 withdrawal fee. When I went back, I requested they cover the fee for the inconvenience, the waiters started talking in another language and proceeded to tell us it wasn’t their problem. From the time we arrived, the customer service was terrible. Definitely would NOT come back here.
We came in for a snack of edamame and dumplings and it was DELICIOUS 😍
THE BEST THAI FOOD IN ASHEVILLE DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! The roasted pork wonton soup is so good along with Tom kha soup I hope you enjoy <3
Too expensive.
It was 2030, and most places close at 2100. We noticed this place was open till 2130, but it was 2045 when we arrived. The staff was welcoming, and food was excellent. The price is very reasonable.
The server lady didn’t feel like serving me because I’m by myself and there were a couple behind me and she is like come in two people and asked me to wait outside. I was visiting from faraway.Felt very disappointed 😢.
Very good authentic Thai food. Hot is Thai hot, so be careful!
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and delicious food. I like to eat Tom Kha Kai and Pad Thai. They make it very delicious.
They will make things vegan for you. Ive been getting their curry dor over 10 years and it still rocks my world
Drunken Noodle was weird. The tofu wasn’t fried and crispy, and the flavor was lacking. When they added all the veggies, it created kind of a mushy soup that pulled from the flavor. My favorite parts of a drunken noodle is the crispy tofu and the thick saucy rice noodles.
I’ve eaten here twice in the past several months. Both times the service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. Our server tonight was efficient, friendly, kind, fun, and full of smiles…making for a great dining experience. I look forward to rewarding my taste buds with the saporous, complex flavors of Suwana’s Thai Orchid.
Amazing food great service 100% recommend.
While in Asheville, we stopped at Suwana’s Thai Orchid for dinner and we had high expectations because of the reviews. When we arrived, we were able to sit wherever we wanted because they weren’t crowded. I noticed that the atmosphere and decor was pleasant and relaxed. So that only increased my expectations.
I ordered the Green Curry and my daughter ordered the Shrimp Basil Fried Rice and an order of Spring Rolls. The appetizer came out first and they were slightly bland so we put salt on them to flavor them up. My daughter’s Chicken Fried Rice was also bland and she had to keep putting salt on it to add flavor.
Needless to say, she wasn’t happy with her dish. My Green Curry was decent but the chef definitely could’ve made the sauce slightly thicker and added more chicken. I was disappointed with the outcome and I’ve learned that there seems to be a difference in what some reviewers consider to be flavorful or delicious.
The service was very good but overall, i would not try Suwana’s Thai Orchid when in Asheville again.
Just loved this place! The food was so tasty.
Delicious and affordable. Every time! Try the curry or spicy fried rice. The mango sticky rice is also delicious. YUM!
Don't go to this place that discriminates against non-americans.Just say no when they open a new place in Black Mountain!
Owner is openly racist, and it’s well-documented. They charge automatic 20% tip for diners that are of certain races that the owner believes leave bad tips.
Don’t support this place.
My favorite place to eat out in Asheville, NC!
Food was good service was good. The reasons behind the 4 star is this place is tiny. Asheville is busy so parking and walking is tough for us old people. Lol. There is parking across the street at the Asheville hotel. Paid parking of course but you might get lucky on the street. If you like Thai it is a cozy little place with good food.
I have been a customer a couple of times and had decided to stop because the food was so underwhelming for the price.
Then I find out that the owner is illegally adding gratuity only to customers who she believes will tip poorly, based on their perceived race and/or nationality.
So not only would I not go back because of overpriced and mediocre food, I will make sure that every person in Asheville, local or visitors, know to not patronize this business.
I can't give 0 stars. Do not go here if you are Indian or dark skinned. They are so discrimitory and will bad mouth you, charge you more and then belittle you if you question. The word "for Indians we automatically add gratuity because Indians don't tip and leave messy tables"
This is what was said to a couple people at the table next to us! We just paid our bill right then and left.
Always ate this place regularly
Food is good as always, friendly staffs
Service is on time, might take longer during rush or hectic hours but understandable
Will always back
Great experience and top notch service. Fun music too!
My husband and I love this place. We actually went on our first date. Here. The services. Excellent, and the food is very good. They're very careful about asking how hot you want the Thai food, which I appreciate. It's a solid go-to if you like Thai food.
I randomly stumbled over this hidden gem just strolling Downtown Ashville after a long day of shopping. Before you even walk in you can smell the amazing food from outside. It was a MUST that I stop inside. Pom greeted us with a warm smile and set us immediately. Must I add Pom is absolutely beautiful and beyond personable. I ordered the drunken noodles with a Thai ice tea and crab ragoon with for the appetizer. The food came out fresh and tasty!
I will definitely be back!
It’s hard to find a bad meal in Asheville but we did. The stir fry ginger with salmon had ( if there is such a thing) salmon fingers that were breaded snd fried in a goopy plum sauce.
When I sent it back the replacement wasn’t much better. The salmon were over cooked remnants. Extremely disappointing. The pad Thai was ok. Server was accommodating.
Hands down, best peanut sauce I’ve ever had.
The worst Thai food I have ever had. I had Pad Thai with tofu, tofu tasteless and hard and dry like it was cooked days before. Noodles had a odd taste like vinegar. Appetizer rolls must have been something they got frozen, not crisp like they should have been. Just bad food. Overpriced and tasted bad.
Servers were very friendly and the food is always incredible. Tonight we had crab rangoons, Tom Yum soup with shrimp, and the red curry---all were DELICIOUS. I could eat the red curry everyday.
This was a particularly bad experience, clearly different than the average score.
Our waiter took quite a while to seat us despite 3 available tables, even longer to bring us water. There were several napkins and items under tables, the busboy left the wait staff wiping down tabletops. Our waiter forgot my beer, and spice on the side for the pineapple fried rice. our edamame was overcooked. The food was lukewarm, they forgot our silverware until I asked for it (unwrapped as they had run out). Then we couldn’t flag down either waiter to get our check and I just had to jump in line behind other customers wanting drinks, seats, or other items. I know it sounds bad, but I promise you I’m not exaggerating. 2023 Nov 26 was a bad day for this restaurant.
They always seem too busy for their capacity.
I had a pineapple curry which wasn't to my taste which I imagine is mostly my fault. It was sweeter than I had expected ( compared to say pineapple fried rice ).
You can tell everything is made of fresh, fresh ingredients.
I world go back again.
Taste of the pad kee Mao was solid. But noodles were not cooked. So do a bit better next time.
Food is really delicious.
Great if you love cold soup.......
I also askedfor thai hot and was served a soup with no spice.
The scrimp was amazing however and def high quality and so was the spring rolls hence why I land at 3 stars.
This was the most authentic tasting Thai food I’ve had since visiting Thailand. Service was great. Bank was our server and was fantastic. Definitely will be coming back when I visit Asheville again.
Great food, excellent service.
Their Tom Kha blew my mind.
I have been in asheville for over 20 years and this is the most pathetic attempt at service and take out… Unless you have an extra hour budgeted for dinner do not order from this place.
If you’ve ever had good Thai food in Northern Virginia, Charlotte, Richmond, or any larger city, this Thai food will probably disappoint you. If you’ve never had Thai food before, this place is just fine. Green curry was sufficiently spicy but pretty watery. Thai fried rice was a rather bland. Food pretty meh but is not terrible by any means
Incredible food and friendly service. The Duck Noodle soup is phenomenal.
Our family ate there for lunch while in town and it did not disappoint. We had a variety of food with noodles, rice, and wings, all very good! We’ve tried a lot of thai food and this one takes the cake. The service was incredible with everyone being very attentive. Our server, Sammy, was attentive and very helpful when understanding their menu and spices. Enough serving sizes that we took some to go since the food was filling! Will definitely be going here again in the future!
We ordered the Beef Salad, Masaman Curry ( chicken) & Basil Stirfry (catfish). We also had Mango Sticky Rice.
The last time l was here was in Apr or May and it was a terrific experience...excellent food and beautiful presentation. They renovated since then, and not for the better, as far as the menu and kitchen go. The sticky rice dessert was served in a wine glass! Not this time. It was a generous portion and delicious, but just spread out on the plate. The salad dressing was bland and much of the beef was chewy and tough. I found the Basil sauce to be bitter. And the battered catfish was soggy. Just disappointing after the wonderful experience last time.
Awesome food in downtown, every time I have been it’s been an absolute delight. Get the crab rangoons and chicken drunken noodle, you won’t be disappointed! Delicious, I get it every time I go.
Sehr gutes Essen für einen sehr guten Preis.
What a great place! We felt lucky to stumble on it while walking in downtown Asheville. The service was wonderful - friendly and fast. The food was outstanding. My son and I shared the crab rangoon for an appetizer - so good! And then shared the Drunken Noodles with Chicken. It was plenty of food for the two of us. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Best rangoons I've ever had. Curry was delightful.
Great food and service.
The peanut sauce is spot on.
Our orders came out at different times, separated by over 10 minutes, and one of them came out cold. The food itself was ok, it seemed like the basil wasn’t fully washed - there was a crunch every now and then.
I got chicken wings. They are big and yummy.
Drunken noodles really good. They catered to me asking to leave out egg, peppers and onions so I'd say good for dietary restrictions.
I did order a side of rice and the container isn't full.. that's disappointing a bit but overall pretty good for something down town
Bought Thai chicken and veg fried rice and it was the worst fried rice I ever had.
Staff is top tier and food is excellent. One of the best fresh spring rolls I've ever had. Central location in one of the most walkable areas in the city.
Upon arrival, I did a quick scan of what everyone was eating. I saw a lot of stir fry rice options which is not my favorite. I wanted a lunch special that was not friend rice, and chose the basil with chicken. Lots of crisp veggies cooked to perfection. (Chef’s kiss!💋) Sauce was full of flavor. Crispy rolls were not overdone. The server was charming and friendly. Bathrooms very clean. We made a great memory here.
Super friendly staff and the food was yummy! Lots of veggies in the dishes and good vegetarian/vegan options.
We were warned by the waitress that food is not authentic which isn’t an overstatement. I would say this is more of a fusion Thai restaurant as both flavors and ingredients in all the dishes weren’t really what you’ll consider as authentic. Still, if you’re looking for some Asian food, this place is good. The dim sum was my favorite.
Waitress were friendly and gave good service.
Great Thai food, I've had both the Thai fried rice and pork drunken noodles multiple times. Recommend to anyone who enjoys flavorful Thai.
This is the only Thai restaurant that I eat in when I'm in Asheville. Everything is fresh, and the service is pleasant.
We went to go there about two weeks ago and they were closed. I hope they are still in business we love this place 🥺
Super friendly and sweet people with tasty food to boot!
The food is so good that imma start crying
Service was great however took off one star for a couple of reasons - Drunken noodle with seafood was overpriced for what was actually in the 'seafood portion'...mostly all shrimp, maybe one or two scallops and a small chunk of salmon. So not worth $24. We both had the Drunken Noodle dish and altho' the sauce was good, dish was missing many of the veggies that were listed on the menu...I know food items might be difficult to come by but a bit disappointing to see a ton of bell peppers added in the dish trying to make up for missing veggies - I do not eat bell peppers! if we go back, will try one of the curry dishes next time and be sure to ask if all veggies listed, will be in the dish.
We enjoy the food. I had the pad prik king chicken and my husband had the spice fried rice. Both were very good. The tom yum soup was a little too spicy compared to other items. Our service was great. We recommend!
