Authentic Thai cuisine. Best place in town! It’s a hole in the wall where it’s all about the good food. I went with my Singaporean friends and felt like we were back in Singapore where the real food is really good. So that everybody knows this is after the Asheville floods. This place is open and serving food as of October 22. And it is outstanding.

Was basically a home cooked meal, in the BEST way possible. It all tasted real and delicious and nutritious and filling and me and my two friends were all fat and happy when we left. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality takeout food.

We will not be ordering from Pons again.

Ordered online, received an email that it would be ready in 30-60 minutes. After waiting 90 minutes, food still hadn’t even been started. Terrible communication.

The food was just okay and then I found a hair in mine. I was going to let that go because things happen, but the employee on the phone decided the best response to this was to be rude so. Terrible service and the food isn't worth it.

I have celiac disease and some allergies, and I’m always clear on my orders online. But if you order. Any sort of allergy with this horrible Youman she will make you feel as though you are a piece of trash. I cannot believe the way I was treated and I have never in my entire life. Been treated more poorly because I have a disease. Shame on this woman. I’m calling the Better Business Bureau next. in fact, I believe this is an Americans with disabilities. in fact, I believe this is an Americans with disabilities conversation. What a jerk.

Best pad Thai I’ve had so far in Asheville. Delicious drunken noodles, and the crab cheese rolls should be illegal.

Worst wait restaurant ever. Order placed at 12:09 to be pick up at 12:34. Waited 1 hr and food was still not ready. She asked me to come back later. I continued to wait for another 15 minutes. After I couldn’t wait anymore, I asked for a refund, the owner said call beyondmenu and sent me off. So my food was never prepared because owner was too busy with other orders. It was unprofessional and unacceptable behavior.

Wodnerful food, good business run by a hardworking woman! It's a family favorite!

We have loved Pon’s and recommend it to everybody because we think it’s great Thai food, but more than once now, I have placed an order online and it has taken over an hour and a half for the food to be ready! Which means an hour of waiting in the restaurant. I think this is absolutely ridiculous and they don’t need to offer the service if they are not going to be able to provide the service in the time allotted. So if you are going to eat there, then just allow yourself an extra hour, at least! And maybe call to double check that your order is getting started.

I’m afraid they lost a loyal customer tonight and I will very reluctantly recommend this place to anyone.

All I can say is that they got some amazing food.

Honest review here. The food is tasty. However, the service is NOT GOOD. The lady who runs the restaurant (short, early 60's maybe) is RUDE. She doesn't speak much English, but that's not so much an issue. Her daughter (?), taller lady, mid 40's, attractive.... speaks a little more English but both are RUDE. They purposely put crispy egg roles in our bag when we specifically (and slowly) pronounced "fresh spring roll." When we received our food (and had already paid, of course)... we notice crispy egg roles (very oily, btw). We politely told them that we ordered fresh spring roll, and the younger lady tried to tell me that it's the same thing. And I told her it's NOT the same thing becuase her menu specifically indicates 2 different items, and we asked for the spring roll because it's not fried. She said something in her language to the older lady and the both lauged and said "We don't have today, you eat crispy roll, ok?" (You can't make this up) My husband was hungry and didn't want drama, so he nudged me and said not to worry about it. But I told the younger lady this is bad customer service and she should not treat her customers like that. She laughed and said "ok sorry." and turned and walked back into the kitchen. ALSO, no napkins or utensils were provided so my husband had to go in and ask and they told him to walk inside kitchen to get them off the table. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Just because the food is tasty, but it's not the only place with tasty food. Plus it's inside a very unattractive gas station and the gas station owner (speaks English) is as rude as the PONS people. GO ELSEWHERE TO EAT!!!!

This is some of the best Thai food out there. Pon’s is the standard I hold all Thai restaurants up to. Incredible fresh and delicious. It’s in a gas station so don’t expect luxury. Also don’t expect fast food. Depending on the amount of orders you could be in for a wait.

Try to order really close to opening or closing. 6-7pm? Forget about it.

That being said it’s worth any wait.

I’ve been known to wander. I’ve circled this beautiful country so many times. And I’ve ALWAYS found the best food in gas stations. This experience didn’t disappoint! It was fresh, tasty and perfectly prepared. Bonus that they use recycle/reusable togo containers.

Pad Thai and Tom Kha was way too sweet :( Pad Thai was also really mushy/wet too. The papaya salad was good though. Maybe we caught them on an off night.

i am very very very picky about my thai food and this place did not disappoint. i got the chicken pineapple fried rice with thai iced tea. my friends got the tom kha soup, tofu panang curry, chicken pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. everything was extremely delicious. the pineapple fried rice was very flavorful and a great combination of sweet and spicy. the thai iced tea was very good but was very sweet, next time i think i would ask for less sweet or more milk instead of sweet tea. my only complaint would be the wait time but with reading the reviews before i was expecting that and it was well worth the wait. the woman who runs this place is so sweet and very good at what she does. though it may take a little while to get your order i would not have it any other way. order ahead and eat at this place!

The food was amazing. I got chicken pad Thai and was very happy with it. The banana sticky rice rolls were so delicious. Definitely try them. They're a best seller for a reason.

If you are going to get a quick meal with 5-star service and a great atmosphere, this isn't for you. Now, for the rest of us: this is a small operation that just makes damn good food. It isn't going to be quick, and the service isn't going to wow you. But you will not be disappointed by the quality of the food. It is a fantastic restaurant, and though it is in a gas station, it is a hidden gem in Asheville. I've been going for years and will continue to as long as I can.

The food here has been consistently really good. The wait is the only problem. It is a one-woman show so it takes a long time, even when you call ahead. If you have got the time the food is worth it.

Food has never been less than great. That said, I don’t always get what I order and they make substitutions without asking, so maybe I’ve been lucky. Only real complaint is consistently when ordering I’m told ‘45 minutes’, and I know it’s slow, so I give them an hour. When I show up, mine is always the next one they’re going to make.

Time has no meaning here. 10 minutes is 40 minutes. 40 minutes is 90 minutes. After 40 mins you show up and then they start making your food and often don’t have record of it.Ultimately the food isn’t good enough to justify the poor service and dis-organization.

Don’t let appearances fool you. Just because it’s located in a gas station doesn’t mean the food isn’t good! Been going here for about a year now and I can verify that the food is always great. Portion sizes are large so I always have leftovers for the next day. I get a real taste of Thai cuisine here and I definitely recommend giving this place a try!

Great Pad Thai, among the best I have had in Asheville.

I feel bad for writing a negative review because the owner (an elderly woman) was working by herself. Unfortunately, our food order took over two hours to receive. I ordered Crispy Duck and it was anything but crispy. The small amount of duck in my meal was soggy which was very disappointing. Sadly l won't be going back.

Great Thai cuisine for 3 of us. We had Curry, Pad Thai, Spicey Fried Noodles and chicken dumplings. All were delicious. It took about 25 mins before meals completed...no bad for a one woman staff!!! Only real negative was the Gas station convenience sore where the 4 tables with 12 seats were located was run down.

Terrible food, terrible service, waited almost 1.5 hours past pickup time and the "green" curry was not even made with green chilies - it was simply made "spicy" with crushed red pepper. The dish tasted very strongly of fish oil, which makes sense since it seems about 2-3 burners are simultaneously used to make many orders at the same time. Disgusting!

Dont sleep on this place! I walked in at 3:30, had no idea this place existed, asked the woman behind the counter if she could make me something. She told me they were closed but that since it was my first time she would cook for me. She made me the most delicious red curry and white rice. She was so sweet.

The service is beyond horrible. Both times I have order and both times my order took well over an hour after the promised time. I won't be back. Order with caution. The food is okay. Both times one dish was great, but the rest was sub-par or slightly burned.

Food is always good. She was short of help the day we were there, so extra slow. Still, worth waiting for.

Fantastic and filling, homemade Thai food cooked by a kindly old Thai lady (it’s Pon and she is very sweet!). This is a very unassuming place located in a gas station, but don’t let that scare you. It’s clean and even the gas station clerk was uniquely friendly. There’s something charming about this little place… Seems to have lots of regulars and a very welcoming atmosphere.
I ordered the red curry w/ chicken and it was great! Savory and perfectly spicy - it warmed my heart and healed my soul. I will definitely be back.

Wanted to try something new and sadly this place was a disappointment. I placed an order online and went to pick it up 20 minutes later, on which it was still not ready, which is fine. I went up to ask about my order and she told me no, not now.

A few people that came after me got their order first. I had to wait over an hour for takeout with no time frame or communication from the cook. It seems like they don’t start your food until they want to, putting certain others first no matter the order.

When I finally opened my food it was not what I ordered but I gave it a chance, but it was sup par. There are better Thai restaurants in the area.

For many years this was my favorite Thai place, after today I won’t be going back.

I ordered takeout, Thai spicy tom yum soup and the chicken dumplings. The soup was very bland, almost seemed thrown together in minutes, absolutely no spice. I just threw it away. The dumplings were fine until I bit into a crunchy shrimp tail inside my “chicken dumplings”. I wasn’t given a spoon for my soup and apparently they don’t carry condiments anymore such as soy sauce.

Very rude when picking up my order, no eye contact, barely acknowledged me waiting. I can agree that this place has gone down hill, not happy to see a 92 for health score either.

You will be much happier ordering from Tasty Thai a few miles up the road, my now favorite!

I used to love this place but it’s really going down hill. I learned about 2 years ago you can’t just call your order in otherwise they won’t start making your food until you get there.

Last time I ordered my crab rolls were bad, like spoiled bad. No refund nothing, glad I didn’t get sick.

This time I go in order and pay then go to the grocery store come back in 30 minutes and my food still isn’t ready. She said she was sorry I’m working on it now, but this is the last time I come here. I’ve had it with them being rude when you order and not actually cooking your food you pay for.

I have been taking out food here for 5 years or more.The Food is always consistently very good Everything is authentic and fresh with good-sized portions. Momma Pon is a hard-working one-person operation most of the time whose cooking skills and execution blows away all the higher-end places in and around Asheville. Reminds me of great street food I have experienced in Thailand which I have experienced several times. Mamma Pon your the best in the three surrounding counties.

I love this place! You can't go wrong with the spicy basil chicken combo or green curry! The spring rolls are crispy and delicious!

Finally got a chance to try Pon's Thai Cuisine. I loved the Pad Thai ($11.95), with its beautiful pastel color and fresh taste (so unlike some of the glopped Pad Thai served elsewhere in Asheville). This version, with its fresh green onions, fresh cilantro and light, thin noodles ,make me realize why I used to love this classic Thai dish.

The Chicken Satay with peanut sauce (three small skewers for $7) also was very tasty.

The Larb Salad ($9.12) and the Tom Yum soup ($5.95) were, for us, less successful. The sweet and sour soup, as some others have said, seemed too sweet. The Larb was good, but not the best in Asheville.

For takeout, I don't mind the gas station ambiance, and this is how Little Bee Thai got its start, but I'd love to sit down in nice small restaurant, sip a Singha and enjoy the meal with table service, like we used to at the late lamented Wanpen.

For four dishes (one main, two appetizers, one soup) for take away we paid nearly $40, perhaps a little pricey for a place in an Exxon station.

Would I go back? Yes, definitely. But I probably wouldn't make a 30-minute special trek from our home just to get this Thai takeout.

Do not expect good communication, and don’t be pretentious and try to “customize” your order. They are there to make this amazing food for you, not cater to you. Give yourself a 2 hour buffer between order and pickup. Don’t go here if you expect your food to be ready in under an hour, especially on a friday saturday or sunday. You can pickup earlier on weekdays and earlier in the day. If you come here to write a less than 5 star review because it “took a long time”, don’t bother eating here at all, because you don’t deserve this food.

Around the house we use "gas station Thai" as a benchmark for Thai food. It's honestly the best Thai food I've ever had. Wait time can be very long though, so make sure to order ahead.

Gas station Thai food sounds like an episode of 1000 ways to die but this is seriously the BEST Thai maybe even just Asian food overall in North Carolina. I've tried every place within driving distance and no one makes fried rice as good as the 2 sweet old ladies whipping up food out of this literal hole in the wall restaurant.

Their Pad Thai is amazing but definitely agree with the others that the service is very poor. They cannot keep up with demand with just 1 or 2 employees. Wait is absurd considering we call ahead, yet we come to pick it up only to find out they have not even started on the order.

Apparently the food is great, but I couldn't care less how good the food is if I arrive at the restaurant at 6:05pm and don't leave with the food until 8:01pm. Simply placing an order is difficult enough due to the language barrier. They don't pay you any mind after you've ordered. Every time I've been there, there's always 3 or 4 other people waiting and shaking their head at the poor service. There's plenty of other Thai options in the greater Asheville area. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that's capable of handling their workload.

The food is awesome. The Pad Thai here is probably in my top 3 favorite Pad Thais I've had anywhere. The portions are massive also. I usually pick up a Pad Thai and end up making two meals out of it. The only reason I drop a star is because I often wish I could eat there, but its not really set up for that and I get that. Also, I learned quickly to call your order in advance as much as possible. It takes a while because they are popular and its usually 2 of them cooking everything from scratch. As a Thai fanatic, this is definitely in my top 10 for food alone out of about 50+ I've eaten at up and down the east coast.

The big issue is I believe they have grown so much in popularity that the service has fallen in quality. They just can't keep up with two people working. Everything is made fresh so I have always ordered and shown up an hour later. No problem. However, the last several times I've waited up to an hour once I got there. So two hours from ordering. This past Friday was a nightmare. Ordered, waited an hour, and went to pick up. There were at least 10 people waiting. Spoke to some people there and they had been waiting 2+ hours after ordering. No employee was communicating with the crowd. Tried to ask about my order but was just told to call the online ordering service. I called and cancelled my order.

The food is fantastic, some of the best and most authentic tasting Asian food in the Asheville area. But know this: when people say it takes a long time, they mean a LONG time. I ordered at 6:10 and didn’t get to take the food home until just before 8:00. There’s one cook with a single wok, so it’s one meal at a time. But again… it’s delicious, so totally worth the wait. Order well in advance.

The reviews were great , Maybe I went on an off day I don’t generally like to post negative reviews even when I have a bad experience . The flavors were honestly not good, pad Thai had almost no seasoning or sauce . my masaman curry tasted like fabuloso cleaner . The basil duck wasn’t bad but had loads of bones . And they were putting food together from canned goods. Hopefully they can up their game a little bit knowing a few off tidbits

Excellent service and very good food. We didn’t realize lunch ended at 3, and walked in at 3:02. In the middle of a nine-hour drive, planning on this stop, our faces obviously fell - and they very kindly fed us.

The pad woon sen was great, the drunken noodles pretty good - wrong noodles and a little bland. The spring rolls were meant to be the fresh kind but came fried (probably due to mask muffling!) and were very good.

We’d definitely stop there again. I don’t mind the gas station ambience as long as the food’s good and served by such nice folks.

Service was slow even though we ordered ahead but the food was very good. Spicy but not too much and everything was very flavorful.

Best Thai in the area! Super authentic and I am very picky about my Thai food having lived in Thailand for a few months. This place is super busy and these sweet women are cooking their hearts out. Due to a small kitchen and such high demand wait times can be around 40min-1hour wait so make sure to plan ahead! The Panang curry and spicy noodles are my favorite !

The food is delicious- the most authentic Thai cuisine I have found in Asheville. It is easier to order using the BeyondMenu app because the language barrier can be significant.

It's Like having your own personal Thai chef prepare your dinner. This place is always busy and it's easy to see why. The portion sizes are large and the food is fresh and tasty. It's a great value for the money. Would recommend for great Thai food!

Great food-but your gonna wait at least an hour to 1 1/2. Just appetizers-at least 45 min. Order the food-go grocery shopping-pick up your food afterwards, and be sure to check your order before you leave-seriously. Good food though.

Went for dinner and based other reviews I did not hurry to pick it up. They had a steady stream of orders but it was only about 30 minutes from the time I placed my order to the time it was ready.

Ordered the eggplant dish but only got a few bites of eggplant. Mostly carrots, celery, peppers and onions. Disappointed.

BEST THAI in the AVL area. Everything is absolutely delicious. We are big fans of the red curry. They get very busy so be prepared for a wait but it is totally worth it!

Pon's is always excellent, just keep in mind when she says 20 minutes, it's probably going to take double that at least.

Pon's is one of the best places in Asheville to get Thai cuisine. It can sometimes take a little for your order to be complete, but it's made fresh and flavors are strong! Pad thai is my dish of choice, but I've been introduced to many Thai dishes from friends and choose to eat here first so that I know what it's really supposed to taste like. You can't be Pon's when it comes to Thai food.

Got spoiled with great Thai Food while living in Washington, DC area for several years. Moved here 5 years ago and the search for truly great and authentic Thai Food is over. THIS is the place. Amazing cooks and great dishes. I will be back again and again.

Awesome! I’m pretty picky about Thai food and was hesitant to try Pon’s, but I’m so glad I did! We had the chicken pad Thai and the red curry... both were great! Ordered at 7pm on a Wednesday, they said 20min and it took 40min... no big deal, but just a heads up leave yourself some room.

updating to ONE star...it had been 11 months and we’ve got covid cooking fatigue so why not try the closest restaurant to our house again? BAD CALL. Ordered three dishes with tofu via their online ordering service. (So it’s really obvious that TOFU was selected... not a misunderstanding.) Got home and discovered the we received one dish with tofu and two with chicken. So we essentially paid $40 for one dish and an overly sweet thai tea. Vegetarians beware. Called for a refund and the language barrier didn’t help but was refused a refund and then she hung up on me.

soooo hit and miss. tonight our takeout order wasn't ready until 40 min after pickup time and the food was not up to par. No tofu as ordered in one dish, another was too spicy after selecting 'mild'... no regard for special instructions 'no tomato/no onion' in another dish. very disappointing. my husband has given up on Pon's but i still crave thai food every so often and insist on it. it'll be a long time before i take that gamble again.

Mediocre food. I was told 10 minutes and I had to wait 30. Both orders I brought home were something totally different from what I ordered. I was really hungry so I ate some and then tossed the the rest.

Great Thai food. Sometimes a little slow, so maybe give them 10 to 15 min extra on your order on the weekends.

Ordered for 7pm pick up .not ready had to wait 15 mins. Food was horrible ordered medium spicy no spicy or flavor at all. I ordered spicy basil with chicken which had broccoli and should not have. It was basically red grease. Also ordered spicy fried rice with chicken same way no flavor no spicy not even mild spicy NO FLAVOR!!!

Maybe it wasn't as busy of a night for me, but I didn't have to wait at all. They said 20 min and when I got there food was ready. Food was wonderful, I'll definitely be back. Pickup is within the gas station.

I'm really surprised how well reviewed this place is. Sure, the food is a 3/5, but it takes at LEAST 30 minutes from the time you arrive to get your food. i've sat in this crummy gas station for over an hour on two different occasions even when i arrive well after the food is supposed to be done. It's horribly obvious that Pon doesn't even think about starting your order until you arrive. While you sit and wait, and make awkward glances at everyone who's in the same boat as you, prepare to watch all the third party delivery drivers show up and immediately get loaded up over and over.

The portions are insane though, so they got a star for that.

Like other reviewers had said, service is extremely slow. I ordered ahead, showed up 20 minutes later, and my order hadn't been started because she "didn't see it". It took another 25 minutes of me sitting there for my order to be ready. Now, I wouldn't mind the wait if the food was worth it, but unfortunately it was way too greasy and lacked flavor. I added a star because despite the slow service, the lady was really nice and apologetic, but it seems as though the slow service is a trend, so I'm not sure the apology really changes anything. I also added another star because the portions were HUGE and was about 5 meals worth of food, but I had to recook it at home and add flavor to it.

Hands down the best Thai in Asheville. Flavors are pronounced, noodles cooked to perfection (not mushy like other places). Pineapple fried rice has complex flavor. It’s gooooood. So good my mouth is watering while writing this.

Decent food, slow service. As previously mentioned in other reviews, I ordered online, showed up thirty minutes later and the food hadn't been started. About twenty five minutes later it was done. Overall time from order to walking out was just shy of an hour.

This food is SO GOOD. But you have to wait SO LONG. So if you have patience it is well worth the wait. Don’t be starving when you order, bring a snack.

Little hole in the wall Thai place here in South Asheville! And it's delicious! But sooooo spicy. If you like your pad thai spicy, even when you request mild, you'd probably enjoy this! It was still tasty, just hard to eat without tearing up (which would probably be a good thing in Thailand)

After years eating here, finally decided it was time to write a review. Thai is my favorite food and I've tried all the places in and around Asheville, multiple times. Pon's is a bit of a drive for me so I dont have it all the time but I gotta say it is the best thai food in Asheville. The seasoning here is spot on and while most thai food in asheville is passable this is exceptional. important note: order at least an hour ahead of time on Friday/Saturday, I believe the owner is the only cook and they are pretty popular in that part of town and get backed up but I promise you its worth the extra time.

great thai food but I called in an order when they opened at 5 pm .they told me 35 minutes .so I got there at 535 and they didn't even start my order until I arrived. Basically they only worry about door dash type orders first and make normal people wait over an hour. . Gave them 4 different toys same as normal you wait an hour if you don't use the internet app . I'm not trying for a 5th time.oh BTW took an hour and 10 minutes to get my food

This was the best Panang curry I have had in years. The flavor delicious. Just a hole in the wall, but several people recommended it to me. Mostly take out. Part of the gas station market.

The first time we came here (last week) we ordered and were told it would be 30 min. We arrived in 30 min and waited for about 45 min after arriving for our food to finally come. The food was good and sometimes places are just understaffed, so we decided to give them a second chance. We came back again, ordered earlier (6pm) and were told 40 minutes. We got there in 45 because we figured it would take a little more time. It is now 7:30 and she brought my food out... asking if it was ok that both were spicy. We ordered ONE spicy and one MILD. No, another spicy is not ok. Everyone else waiting seems frustrated, too. We are very sad to see this happen again, as we were hoping the first was just a bad night. I would not order food here unless you’re willing to wait in a gas station for a very long time and possibly have the wrong order. Such a disappointment :(

I'm from the Midwest and I enjoy some good Thai and am quite spoiled living in the west aswell. We came through Asheville on a trip and decided to stop here. It was off-putting being in a gas station and debated about grabbing... but what I got was some of the best Thai of my life. The portions were insane and the workers were so kind and nice!

I love finding hidden treasure in unexpected places and this place is a gem of a find. Best Chicken Pad Thai that you’ll find around these parts. Very unassuming atmosphere but you’ll be pleased with the quality of the food. They care and it shows!

This place is really good! It is so much better than most Thai restaurants in Asheville. I really liked the pad thai and the spring rolls were great! My sister got the spicy basil with beef - she thought it had tons of flavor and it was definitely really spicy.

We used to come here all the time and get the pad Thai. It was literally my favorite pad Thai ever. But today we ordered it for take away, got in the car, started eating it and all I could taste was tomato paste. It was the weirdest nasty flavor ever. So we thought maybe our order got mixed up with someone else’s. So we went back inside to ask if we could get a pad Thai instead of whatever they gave us and she said that WAS their pad Thai and she told us that they use some tomato based ketchup-like sauce in it now!!!!!! It was so gross. And on top of that, I can’t even eat tomatoes. So it immediately made me sick and she got mad at me for asking for something different and refused to cook something else for us since it was close to closing time. I was so disappointed!!!! She just threw our food away and gave us our money back with a horrible attitude.

I am visiting from Ohio, and my cousin got us Pon's for dinner. I got the Pad Thai with tofu, and I was so pleasantly surprised to find a wedge of lime in the to-go container, as well as enough chopped peanuts to satisfy me. The tofu was incredibly well seasoned, and the tamarind sauce wasn't overpowered by the medium spice. When I found out it came from a gas station, my mind was officially blown. I will be back when I visit again!

Odd location but still hands down favorite Thai restaurant in Asheville. Much prefer their food to suwanas or lil bee Thai. Tofu pad Thai and pad kee mao are delicious. Prices are great
