An array of traditional Southeast Asian dishes are on the menu at this no-frills eatery.
Whatever you do, do not order from here! This was the worst food I've ever tasted from an asian restaurant. Im not sure if its what I ordered or what but everything was extremely underwhelming. I got the sesame chicken combo with fried rice, the "sesame chicken" tasted like frozen popcorn chicken bites that they cooked and threw in barbecue sauce because that sauce definitely didn't taste like sesame chicken sauce at all. The rice had no flavor at all. I also got crab ragoons which tasted like mashed potatoes in a fried wrapper, im telling you no crab flavor at all and wasnt sweet how Id expect. The "eggrolls" were more like mini spring rolls w pork in them, also looked like they were probably frozen. Even the chicken wings i orderd which smelled okay at first were not classing crispy wings but they were red and the "sweet and spicy" sauce that i got on the side tasted like apple sauce or something. Horrible experience, makes me want to order some real chinese from a better restaurant. I only came to this one because it was 10 mins closer to my job and the other restaurant i usually go to is about 15 mins away. Next time ill make the hike to the restaurant i know wont disappoint because now im out of $25 for food that shouldnt even be considered asian food. :(
The owner was very welcoming, food was amazing! Went during lunch special, definitely recommend to friends and family!
I've been here a few times on my lunch break at work. This is fantastic, cheap americanized chinese food. Probably one of the best around if not the best. No complaints
Every time I come here I order something different and their food is always delicious. I highly recommend as the staff are friendly and the food is great!
The food was acceptable. I wanted Thai. They do not even serve Yum Nur. Basic Thai. We're not impressed. My husband ordered sweet & sour chicken & it was nothing at all like we are used to in the States! It was awful!
The wait was 15 minutes longer than the 30 minutes they said it would be. He made me wait while he took a phone call, waited on a table & checked on my food twice. Not acceptable. That's the best Thai food we have in Oneida County?? Sad
When I lived here for college this was my go-to restaurant. I’d sit and be greeted by an older man I assumed was Sunny. I’d order #tea, #pho, and I’d order his #wings
He has the best wings in Utica.
Very affordable, and such a great place for seclusion or lunch with friends. I wish I had pictures!

I have never seen anyone eating here, only for take out. I would suggest more eco friendly products for take out (no styrofoam or plastic bags) biodegradable would be great! The food was kind of a mixed bag, there are a few ethnicities to choose from, which is fantastic! The Tom Yum soup was spectacular, I ordered tofu, it had great heat to it, and went well with the Thai iced tea. The lemongrass tofu/veggie dish was a little lacking in flavor. The "veggie" eggrolls were deep fried in a thin wrapper, about pinky sized, and filled with mashed potatoes, and carrots. Not my favorite. Overall, great service, clean environment, good food, and offered a military discount.
I loved the food portions, the owner (probably) was really nice and welcoming. We were having a great time. Then the waitress came over and asked if we were ready for the bill. We said sure. My partner was still drinking his tea and soup. The bill was brought. Then the waitress came again and it just felt like we were being rushed out. It was only 7:30 pm. I thought well you know what let’s just go.
The owner was very welcoming, food was amazing! Went during lunch special, definitely recommend to friends and family!
One of the better restaurants in Utica

You really get bang for your buck at this restaurant.
The food was top notch, authentic flavors and care put into the preparation and presentation. Def worth it!

Not that good
The food was acceptable. I wanted Thai. They do not even serve Yum Nur. Basic Thai. We're not impressed. My husband ordered sweet & sour chicken & it was nothing at all like we are used to in the States! It was awful!

Such great food. I hope this place never runs out of business.
6/10
Nice place, but not too many options to choose from
This was my first time having Sunny's in years & unfortunately it wasn't as good (regarding flavor) as I remember. I appreciate that their spice levels are legit my dish was truly 🌶🌶🌶🌶 but that was the only flavor throughout the dish which wasn't pleasant after a few fork fulls.. The dragon noodles were cooked well but were bland as was the general tso chicken.
It is very tasty to me. Like the food.
Small cozy place with great service and amazing food. This place is a hidden gem. They have some unique dishes and everything we tried was delicious. We will have to make it a point ti come back for sure!
Always so friendly, best Cambodian food I’ve had. The mekatang is made perfect and always brightens my day :) every dish taste home cooked
they try to cook authentic Asian dishes, so If you’re looking for quick Chinese American dishes, it may not be flavors you are looking for!
For everyone that gave the sesame chicken a bad review, try Panda Express next time :)lol
Best Asian food in Utica. Always go when I’m in town
The menu has all the favorites of Chinese, Thai, and Burmese cuisine. My husband and I both ordered from the "Chef's Specials" list and both were fantastic. The level of spiciness skews intense, so choose "mild" unless you're absolutely confident in yourself! The homemade nuoc man is fantastic! Loved the wooden carvings, the textiles, the flowers and colors on the wall. Every table has ornate chopsticks ready for use, just as in Asia.
Excellent authentic meal. Keep in mind - hot means hot! I asked " hot enough to make me cry but not kill me." They nailed it. Great bright flavors. I got the E7 (I think - 4 out of 3 Chile rated). My daughter got the NS1 noodle soup which such an awesome depth of flavor. She had to guard it to keep me from eating the leftovers.
Whatever you do, do not order from here! This was the worst food I've ever tasted from an asian restaurant. Im not sure if its what I ordered or what but everything was extremely underwhelming. Older man that takes orders has no matters or social skills. Likes to yell and make a scene for everyone to hear if something is not right. He was telling me to yell across the restaurant and say " hey you " to get his attention. I told him that's not polite, but he didn't understand. Not coming back here again ever.
The Young guy in the back should be dealing with customers in my opinion.
Really good food at great prices. Seems to be a small family run business, service was decent but at times the lone server could have used an extra pair of hands
General Tsao chicken and fried rice 🍚 😋 👌
Intimate place with a real family feel. Food seemed super fresh and flavorful. Will definitely be going back to experience more of this menu.
Great and friendly service and the food was amazing!
Food was on point, immense selection and the prices are cheap!
Love the food at Sunny. Can be a bit slow sometimes. Tough for two people to keep up when they get busy.
So fresh and flavorful. Great service
Great food, great people
My comfort food in all of Utica
I ordered pai Thai, but the noodles is not really pai Thai noodle. This is an Cambodia restaurant not a real Thai restaurant. Food is good, but the coffee is made by instant coffee.
Necesitas visitar este lugar hermoso por dentro buen servicio buena comida buen precio.
One of Utica's best ethnic restaurants. If you like Pho, noodle dishes or traditional Asian it's all good here.
A hidden gem
Meh.
Took 2 hours to serve food and there’s hair in the food but still charge fully for the price. I used to love going there for their best service and food but I don’t recommend going there anymore.
Best Cambodian food ever! The service is slow...very slow, but it is 100% worth the wait!
Go, seriously, do it.
Sunny's has the absolute best, fresh food. We've been there many times, also do takeout. Best Drunken Noodles ever!
great bai ka pow ive never had holy basil its so good try it hot. also surprisingly refreshing
It seems like they have a decent dining area. I got takeout though sesame chicken, a very popular dish. The sauce was alright but instead of sesame chicken I got soggy chicken balls. If you’re going to have the same menu as the standard Chinese restaurant don’t deviate so much from the recipe. It’s a possibility they would be crispy in the restaurant but not rly an excuse. Slightly higher price than regular Chinese takeout.
Amazing place! Great food, great prices, wonderful service!
The staff is great, the food delicious. Would absolutely go back!!
Very tasty food and low prices, will be going back
One of Utica’s best places to eat!!!
Great food, clean and bright inside,Did I say great food.
Stopped by here with my dad today to get lunch. Had never been here before so was unsure but trusted the reviews. I was not disappointed, it turned out to be one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful. Staff was attentive and friendly, I most assuredly will be returning.
I've been coming here for years. Even in this pandemic❤ their food is too good to live without.
Wonderful! Some of the best Tom Yum I've ever had. Friendly and quick service
Great Asian food! Always fresh, healthy. Never greasy, seasonings just right. Great variety.
Incredible food, calm atmosphere & very polite staff.
Such a lovely place to eat! The owner is beyond friendly and the food is spectacular! There's always something new to try, definitely a favorite for my friends and I :)
Great food and service!!
Best restaurant in Utica! Very respectful owners and food is delicious..
The best place to get pho in Utica along with a super polite owner. I love it here!
Everything I've tried has been wonderful and they are not shy when using spices when you ask for something "hot", which is great. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. This is one of my favorites in the Utica area!
Best Khmer food in Utica. Start with the Bor Bor or spring rolls. Try the drunken noodles or Mekatang. The pad-bie-ka-pow stir fried beef is a personal favorite, if you like some good spice. You wont be disappointed. Be sure to get a bubble tea while your at it. Great local family owned spot. Owner waits on all customers and it very nice. Place is very clean as well.
The owner of this place is so nice and the food is so delicious
Everything I've had here has been fresh and incredibly flavorful. This is where I prefer to eat whenever I'm in Utica!
Great pan-Asian cuisine served by friendly staff in a cosy, inviting setting. We also have good time at Sunny Restaurant.
The food is delicious and reasonably priced.
They're food is delicious.
Haven't been in a while. Not up to the same quality as we first experienced. Spring rolls were mostly lettuce. Entree was ok, but not a lot of flavor. Bride not impressed with Gen Tao.
Always amazing! Super authentic!
The food is of reasonable quality, and very flavorful. The atmosphere is beautiful as well, with a kind owner. The place has a good vibe about it. It is worth a try!
Cambodians rock
The best Chinese food I have ever had in the 53 years I have lived on this planet!! Outstanding
Great little spot.. food was delicious and reasonable ...
Seriously, really good.
Food was excellent, the staff is very friendly and on top of things. I highly recommend.
The food is great; service is friendly.
I wish it was closer then I won't need to cook
The food is fresh, very clean restaurant and friendly staff
Small, clean and Delicious food
Best multi oriental food place within its area. My personal favorite is the General Tso. Always a polite service. Usually do not have to wait long for mouth watering food. Excellent service, environment, and food.
Great food for a great price. We're definitely going back.
sí me encanta esté lugar muy buena atención y la comida también
Hands down the best sesame chicken I have had anywhere in central New York!
We placed the order and when we went to pick it up the fellow denied ever getting it. He basically called us a liar and was belligerent about it.
Excellent service and the food was great 👍
Great Pah Thia
Very interesting menu. Extremely tasty.
Tasty, fresh made
Probably my favorite restaurant in Utica.
It was really really good. Owner was nice and the food was excellent. Didn't expect such tasty food from this small restaurant. We had bor bor soup, sweet and sour soup. Lemon grass with shrimp and a specialty spicy dish the owner recommended. Everything was delicious, highly recommend this place.
Wide variety of authentic SE Asian dishes! Get to know the staff they are great people!
Good food but you have to pay for rice to eat with your entree which is just blasphemy when it comes to asian restaurants. All chinese take out comes with a small rice for free because asian cuisine is meant to be enjoyed with rice. Paying for extra rice may be understandable but having to pay 2 dollars for an initial small rice to enjoy with your entree hurts the overall experience I would expect at an asian restaurant.
Always delicious, soup excellent, had Bangkok beef crispy noodles very good can get as spicy as you like.
The best Thai food in town
Always delicious
Definitely a refreshing place if you're looking for Thai/Vietnamese food. Usually timely. The Pad Thai is top notch!
Great food and service!
Amazing!
So glad I was finally introduced to this place and yet so made I've missed out on it all this time! My new favorite place!
Very good food and service.
Sunny is definitely my favorite place in Utica for take-out.
We've been going to Sunny's now soon after it opened a couple years ago. The friendly service, food and atmosphere there is top notch! The quality of the dishes are as tasty as they are consistent. It's our family's "go to" Asian restaurant in Utica!
The drunken noodles are amazing.
캄보디아에서 오신 사장님인데 친절하시고 음식맛도 좋았어요. 쌀국수 맛있게 잘 먹었어요~
The Drunken Noodles were delicious!
Yummy.
Awesome food, amazing menu, great people!
One of the best places to get a quite meal for a great price food is great definitely recommend to any person who eats Asian food
Service and food was wonderful. Vegetables fresh and good tasting. Good cook and attentive service.
Wonderful food and service. Love the tea!
Good food! Good service!
Service is great but the food was bland. Ordered spicy hot food, three peppers, and was not spicy or hot at all. Also ordered a big bowl of noodles with meat and vegetables but was given a tiny container of sauce. There was sriracha sauce on the table, that somewhat made the meals edible. Thai food is supposed to be complex in flavors but this was certainly not it.
Their Chicken Pai Thai is awesome
Quiet place, but good food
Quiet, good food. Friendly service.
Great food
Great food
Food is Excellent and so is the Atmosphere.☺
Love ordering food here! I get the Pad Thai on a regular basis. It's great to have well made Thai food so local!
Love their food and my favorite their Chicken baisel.
Excellent food
Excellent food every time.
Ordered sesame chicken that tasted like bbq sauce with seeds on it, followed by some very bland over cooked egg rolls. Very let down.
Delicious food
A variety of Asian options including Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, American-style Chinese and some dishes have a fusion of those ethnic food types. Large (maybe too large?) menu with good quality and decent service.
Great people , like family , food is always awesome !!
Amazing food, the best soup is town
Been going to the guys since they opened great food selection and prices awesome service hope they eventually find a bigger location to have more seating but my it's my favorite Asian restaurant in the area after eating here you won't go back to crappy greasy Chinese food
The noodles here are delicious . They have a ton of things on their menu for every taste bud. Service is quick both take out and table service. I miss BYOB but it doesn't matter . It is still a nice place for great Asian cuisine.
