Diners can turn up or dial down the spice on the authentic Thai eats at this no-frills restaurant.
This is our nth time here. Tom yup soup is good and pad thai and the papaya salad. I wish they have the tomato tom yun soup. The place is small but we always eat here during dinner pst 8pm so it is not full. Overall it is gooood. I keep on updating the photos for new food I tried.
Had early dinner with my vegetarian friend. We ordered the papaya salad (excellent!!!), she got pad see ew noodles with tofu (delicious!!!), I got green curry with chicken mild (very spicy, awesome flavors!!!) and iced coffee with condensed milk. It’s a very no-frills, simple, hole in the wall restaurant serving up amazing Thai flavors. Will return to try more dishes. 10 out of 10!!!
Gave 4 stars for atmosphere because every time someone opened the door we got a big windchill.
This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant since 2015 - food was always on point and no other Thai place could even compare.
I ordered my usual green curry through Uber Eats and was shocked at how terrible the quality was. The vegetables were undercooked and the curry was so watery - it was literally flavored water. When I called the restaurant to complain, they said the chef had changed today. Knowing this I will never order from this restaurant again. What a shame. Our other dishes were also extremely subpar and bland compared to previous times.
One of the best and most authentic Thai restaurants in New York City. A true hole in the wall, unassuming and simple restaurant with incredibly delicious authentic Thai food
We had 5 dishes among 4 of us and then ordered another dish. Crispy duck bathed in Penang curry sauce as our “dessert” and it turned out to be our very favorite.
We also loved the Mango salad with crispy soft shell crab. So well balanced with pristine. Soft shell crab.
My least favorite was the pork satay but the others liked it.
We loved the stewed pork leg in tamarind sauce
And the knam khao Tod - a board special of crispy rice salad with Thai sauce. Honestly although delicious, the khao Tod from lotus of Siam in Las Vegas remains the benchmark favorite of crispy rice salads. Still it’s a dish that is often hard to find and we enjoyed every bite of the 6 dishes we inhaled
Nothing taste the same anymore after change of owner and chef.
My favorite masaaman curry chicken was soupy, literally 6 strands of shredded chicken and 70% onion + potatoes.
Tom yum soup was white color and bland.
The duck in the duck salad was not so fresh.
Waitress never even return with our change assuming it was all tips.
sadly, I don't think I'll go back again.
Here's the deal, I ate here the first week they opened, some ten years ago, and it was the best Thai food in the area for a couple of years. After a very long break I returned with a few friends, and the same can no longer be said: the food is okay, but not as good, and the prices have doubled. Still, we did enjoy our Tuesday afternoon lunch well enough and service was fine.

My favorite hole in the wall spot. I hope this place dont get viral because I dont want to ensure crazy lines but still stay busy so they can be wealthy and remain open for business.
If you like thai food, this place is worth it.
The food is very good. This is the first time I have very bad experience with Chao Thai restaurant. I don’t understand why waiter not open the air conditioning. It is very hot. I am complain to the waiter. She say we not open the air conditioning until late afternoon. terrible
The tea is great
Great flavor, fast service. This will be our new go to for Thai food.
Food is very authentic. I usually order food from delivery. The space is little bit small. Only a few table.
It's a cozy little surprise. Even though the menu is in English but it's more Thai authentic. Try their duck noodle soup.
Food is very tasty but customer service is really really poor. I am very disappointed .
Get any of the whole fish dishes and you will be very happy! Amazing northern Thai curry and larb as well
Delicious and reasonable price.
The best Thai restaurant in queens or maybe even NYC! It is a cozy little restaurant with delicious food. The servers are extremely kind and treat you like family. After years of always passing by I decided to try it for the first time and I am so glad I did. I love their drunken noodles and basil fried rice.

Dining here since 2016. Yes they have up and slow moment. But mostly consistent foods and delicious. Authentic Thai for sure. Still byob but make sure you generous on tips.
Duck noodle soup with woonsen noodles.
Slow cook beef noodle soup with flat rice noodles.
REAL Thai food. Even "standard" dishes that you find at any Thai place in the city are elevated here and done correctly. I love Chao Thai! It's unpretentious and absolutely delicious.
Tastes great but there were multiple hairs in our food
If you love Thai-Chinese combination then this shop has lots of flavours for you. I love chicken chow mein.
Amazing food. Such true asian spiciness. Much wow.
Huge disappointed. It smells weird like some old oil or something.
The best Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, it's a small restaurant, very limited sitting.
My favorite dish, Rad Na Beef, Crispy pork with basil sauce, green curry, and Pad kee Mao. It's an authentic Thai restaurant , so be careful with the spicy level.
Love this place , authentic Thai food
Great food, great service
The owner is a chef
She is friendly ..will go back
Delicious
my favorite Thai restaurant. always consistent and cozy spot
Lovely whole fish and steam dumplings
If you want Hot Thai, come to Chao Thai. There are many reputable Thai restaurants in Queens. Jackson Height, Elmhurst, Woodside, Forest Hills, and etc. However, whenever I think of Thai, I always come here.
Stir-fried noodles with wok hey are amazing. Almost everything on the menu is good. Among my favorite items is Drunken Noodles, you can smell the noodles being stir-fried with generous condiments in a hot wok. However, be careful when choosing the level of spice. I can handle spicy food but at Chao Thai, I usually go with mild. Once, I ordered a medium spicy level, I couldn't finish the food due to numbness on my tongue and I couldn't taste the food anymore.
The restaurant itself is small, not many tables for large parties but it is a great place to bring a date here and the food is reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place if you are craving for some hot Thai food.
Was looking for a new Thai place after my staple, Jaiya unfortunately closed. Ordered the shrimp pad Thai, shrimp Thai fried rice, and the chu chee fish filet. All 3 were amazing with the chu chee sauce being extremely close to mild Jaiya special sauce if you’ve been. Fried rice was good with no tomato or Asian broccoli so it’s similar to Jaiya. And the pad Thai was the weakest item but still solid imo. Overall very happy with the food and will be back multiple times.
Ps- cash only
Probably the best Thai food in NYC. No idea why it's rating is so low. Food that you would get in Thailand done really well. แกงฮังเล is absolutely awesome. Do standard dishes like ผัดกระเพราไก่🐔 very well. Highly recommend
If you want Thai food that taste like it came from Thailand, and probably made in the back by some lovely grandmas with their own recipes, this is the place.
There’s a lot of great Thai food in the area, and this restaurant stands out for its tasty and complex offerings without being fancy. It’s cash only so hit the ATM before you get here. Sour sausage is one of the unique dishes. I love all the noodles and the curries and if you can be adventurous, get some of the regional ones.
My girlfriends really like the duck curry and I am a fan of the pork belly dishes. They’re also not afraid to give you some heat
Had the Pad Kee Mao, and it was fantastic!
fish chu chee so good
Best and most friendly Thai restaurant around
Man this place has some super authentic food here , and the price is so worth it !
Great prices, and the owner was so kind! 😊
Smaller establishment with amazing food. The dishes are full of flavor and well portioned. The service is great and the orders come out pretty quick if you're pressed for time. Cash only. Careful with spicy levels, you might end up surprised.
Amazing Thai food.
Small family style restaurant, love their food. Usually came here after work. Definitely will come back again and again. Will give 5 stars will they expand their store space or environment.
I’ve been coming for ages and it’s such a heartwarming experience walking through the door and seeing the same sweet lady year after year. It’s like coming home after a long day to something comforting and reliable. The lady always asks me how I’m doing, how my mom is doing, etc… I also appreciate how close it is to the subway. The other Thai places are a little further form the subway.
The food is absolutely amazing, truly Authentic Thai food. I mean most Thai food within the Elmhurst/Woodside is pretty authentic. I like that their menu has such a huge variety. I can get Yum Mama, spicy ramen noodle salad just like when I’m walking through the street markets in Thailand but also more mainstream dishes like jungle curry or pad Khi mao with crispy pork belly. I wish I had more photos to add but this is the only one I can find. The bathroom is all the way in the basement down some sketchy-ish stairway. They are cash only but there is an ATM machine directly inside.
I have seen this restaurant a lot of times while walking into the train station.
So, I decided to give it a shoot and have dinner here with a friend.
I share a few appetizers with my friend.
Num Tok Beef a salad that has grilled beef with onion, chili, lime juice and roasted rice with a touch of medium spiciest, be careful they don't play around went they talked about spicy food, although my palate could handle the degree of spices, it was spicier than I was expected, the beef was very juicy the lime gives it a great taste I recommend getting this to share because the portion is just perfect to share.
Grilled Pork another great appetizer to share with a party which is served with tamarind sauce, pork was cooked perfectly the sauce was a great way to dip the pork to give that extra taste.
For my main disk, I had the Drunken Noodles chicken I notice there was not a lot of protein on my plate, but the noddle was not bad but like the salad was spicier than I was expected. But overall was not bad.
The place is pretty small so is kind of difficult to get a table.
Another bad thing about the restaurant is that is only cash so no debit or credit card accepted.
I just ordered a seafood mango salad and smells like is been out on the sun (be careful with food poison)
I don't know why this place doesn't have a 5 star rating yet. This is the best place for Thai food in Queens. I've been coming here for years. Try the Raw Shrimp salad with garlic, cilantro. Holy monkeys, it's so damn good. Your regular dishes Kee Mao, Fried rice, PraKha King, all sauteed meats are always delicious but be adventurous and order other things off the menu, you can't go wrong.
Fish cakes, calamari, spring rolls , soft shell crabs, Thai iced tea are also great apps. Enjoy!
Also, they're Cash Only!!!
Every single dish I ordered was so delicious! Best pad Thai!
I loved their noodle soup. I ordered the number 1 on the menu. The bouillon was super flavorful. There was beef, liver, crunchy pork eggs...maybe I am forgetting something else.
Anyone was one of the most flavorful noodle soup I had. And you can spice it yourself with the powder pepper
A bit tight to seat inside. Foods not bad
Amazing spice. So delicious. Left a bit buzzed on all the heat. Jungle Curry was especially good. Also, love the dolphin/oceanic themed tables.
I've been here a few times and the food is always outstanding. Yesterday it was 90° and I just stopped in for a Thai iced coffee because I knew they had it here. It was wonderful and extremely refreshing. The person who gave me the coffee saw me sucking on the ice cubes looking for more and offered me "a little bit more" and then came back with nearly another full cup. I did not need the extra sugar lol but it was so nice and so refreshing. Highly recommend Chao Thai
They have Thai northern authentic food with Sticky rice. Yummy
Very authentic Thai cuisine and business is run by Thai family. I hope I can find something are less pricey for small party or one person on the menu. Because I would love to try more their foods when I go visit on my own.
Best food in town hands down, I been to this place twice and both times had a great experience. Food has amazing flavory taste.
Hit or miss. I noticed dinner time is usually tastier but when it's good it's really good. Really wish it was more consistent I'd come more often.
I ordered seafood fried rice got 2pcs of shrimp 1 fishball 1sliced squid 1slice lemon that's it waste of money & it costs me $12
Love coming here! This is my go-to Thai restaurant in Queens, NY. They have such an authentic menu with so many great items! I always get the Thai papaya salad and the crispy garlic pork is amazing!! Highly recommended 👌
Always my favorite go to thai place
I keep hearing how great this place is but I came here today and wasn’t that impressed. I ordered 2 dishes for pickup, pineapple fried rice with chicken and the pork kaprow with thousand year eggs (black egg) and it was $32?!?! Crazy expensive and the prices did not reflect the menus online. Pineapple fried rice was about $10 online but when i saw the receipt in store, she wrote $14.95? That’s crazy. And it tasted just okay. The pork dish was also around $15 and that was yummy.
I’m not sure if they are up charging during COVID, but there are better places with lower prices. I will not be returning
Small intimate restaurant very good food
Stop in the other day for some take out. I got Pad Kee Mao and my husband chose Hainanese chicken with rice. The Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodle) was great. I would definitely go back for it. The Hainanese chicken with rice, however, was dry when it should have been juicy. It looks like they have crab fried rice, so I'm looking forward to trying that next time. I can't stop thinking about that Pad Kee Mao though. It was sooo good!
This is for the restaurant's delivery service, not the in-restaurant experience. I placed order via UberEat at 3pm and asked for delivery between 6:30pm - 7pm. I got a notification at 7pm that the order is rejected leaving me stranded. No explanation and no one picks up the call. Please note this restaurant makes its own delivery rather than utilizing Uber drivers. I am giving very low rating due to its service, and will change later if i have opportunity to try this restaurant again.
For starter, the price on online is not the correct price and they need to change it. If you order chicken, it seem like a decent amount of chicken but if you order beef, shrimp, seafood or other meat than chicken, you get like 3-4 piece of extra $3-$4. Dine in is okay but if you do delivery, the food comes cold and all spilled for theirs lack of packaging. For food quality is not worth the price they are charging people. I don’t like criticizing people who work in the same food industry as me but I’m sure they wouldn’t like it if that happens to them either. I have ate there and order for delivery enough times to give this bad rating.
Delicious as always
If i could rate them with zero, i would... i tried to order delivery, while checking out their menu online; saw in clear print that their prices were reasonable, so i called them and ordered 2 over rice dishes, when i asked for the total, the lady gave me double of the price on their menu! she was curt and rude when i told her the price is different from what was online, didn't even explain that maybe it's their lunch promo, she curtly cut me off when i cancelled the order. Also, my sister-in-law and her husband also had a bad experience when they ordered curry, they requested it be mild, but it arrived so spicy. Never ordering or dining in there!
Food was amazing. Cash only. Small place with limited street parking. Probably one of the best Thai places around the area.
Best Chinese food ever!
been coming to this place for years if i craving for thai, the food always on point by far.
Great food
Little salty. But price and taste good
Maybe the best Thai noodle soup in NYC...
Excellent but somewhat expensive
No frills Thai joint with impresive food. Crispy morning glory salad & curry soft shell crab & pad thai were all delicious.
really bad service and bad staff. charge tip with no service.. never back...
Great authentic Thai food at a small cash only establishment. You know when the menu is in Thai and English you are getting real authenticity. Would definitely go again!
best thai food in town... really spicy 👍👍
Average. Very cheap food
I don't recommended
Really bad taste & bad service too... never be back.
La comida muy deliciosa y el servicio de maravilla y el ambiente muy tranquilo muy familiar
Muy sabroso
The best of the best when it comes to authentic Thai food.
Good food
Love house especial rice chicken wings
Great Northern Thai foods
Food delicious, very friendly staff
No me gustó la comida. Pedí pato para probar algo nuevo y parecía un caucho.
Great... 👍
MUY BUENO
bad experience, when i ordered for pickup they give over price, they charged me way too much then the original price , that’s a robbery 👎🤬🤯
La comida

.....ok i guess
Wow
Thai
Good Thai cuisine.
I got the pad Thai and it was a dry block of orange noodles. The flavor was very weird and the tofu was tasteless. The cost was also too high compared to other Thai places blocks away. Many other choices for a better price and taste.
This is where I want to be buried.
Quality of food have fallen considerably. Ordered the same 2 menu on different occasions and have tasted it and knows the difference. Mixed seafood dish is an example, the strand of fresh peppercorns were missing and seafood counts were lowered and there was too much of lemongrass pieces.
