Kevin & Stephanie Lin
Burmese businessman & Master Sushi Chef Kevin Lin and his wife Stephanie, came to the United States in July 1996 after studying authentic Asian cuisine and food trade in Tokyo, Japan. Landing first in Erie, PA, the Lins brought healthy, tasty, and quality foods to customers while buying and operating a franchise store. By 1997 they owned three franchises and were developing fresh new ideas and Asian recipes. Within two years, and while relocating to Buffalo, the Lins introduced sushi to Western New York. As ambitious and hardworking entrepreneurs interested in bringing the best Asian cuisine to Buffalonians, the Lins opened Sun Food Market at 1989 Niagara Street, Buffalo, in 2010. In addition to high quality Asia
The worst Pad Ke mao ever!!
I ordered chicken spring roll and got home to find vegetable spring roll!
But that’s not my annoyance, the pad ke Mao was tasteless, spineless, seasonless, I had beef pad ke Mao and the best stank like either it or the whole food was about to get rotten
The food is not fresh! The ingredients or vegetables are probably not frozen properly
Whatever it is, it wasn’t a good experience!
For food that costs almost $30, I see no reason why this restaurant would make subpar food. Even a food truck or road side food seller can do better than this!
As I expected, I had a stomach upset after eating this!
Stay away! The food is trash and wouldn’t give you the thai food experience!
Was my first time at a Burmese Restaurant. I've had black rice before and I personally love it.
The restaurant is nice, very welcoming and the stuff is very polite.
We had the Seafood Feast Boat. It comes with a salad and a soup and later they bring the boat. It was a lot for 2 and we do eat a lot. We preferred to take the salad to go (and btw, what an amazing dressing, I can't tell much because I don't know but there's ginger in it).
I also had an avocado juice, so good that I forgot to take a picture.
I can't wait to come back and try other things!
I'm giving it 4 starts because the initial service it did take a while to come up but nothing that would make us mad or anything like that.
What a treat- truly different asian cuisine here, with black rice sushi!!! The items on the menu are familiar but have a twist, so you can get familiar kinds of dishes but wth a new take or a different or unexpected ingredient or presentation. The quality of the food was top notch, and the service was just as good. I was there for a late lunch with a friend, and it was not incredibly busy so we have a nice quiet meal, and were able to take our time and enjoy everything we (over)ordered! This was one of my favorite sushi experiences in Buffalo, and I can't wait to go back.
Ordered grub for Valentine's Day and it did not disappoint in the deliciousness department. Had the Pad Thai for dinner, Chicken curry with Paratha as an appetizer, and Thai Ice Tea as my beverage.
The Pad Thai was flavorful and came with a TON of bean sprouts on top, but it was okay. Would have liked a slightly bigger portion, but it was tasty which is most important.
The curry had a nice flavor profile as well and was a Burmese curry so a little less thick thank Indian curry can be. The Paratha bread is special highlight that deserves oodles of praise and I recommend you get this by itself or with the curry (if you must) just to enjoy its tasty, flaky texture. Great for dipping in the curry as well.
This was a takeout meal so can't speak to the service experience, but the ordering process was smooth on the website, but note that you can only pay with a giftcard online. Otherwise, you'll have to pay in-person upon pickup.
Beef curry was a little salty at the beginning and at the end , can't really taste the curry in it as well. Their signature Pad Thai (not in picture) was really good, pounded with flavors and fresh ingredients . the avocado smoothie is quite good , it is not as sweet as other places so you can really enjoy your meal with it.
This place is amazing! Options for all diet types, excellent food and priced fairly
I was skeptical, but it was really good. I had dumplings, spring rolls and samusa. Very good.
Great food, great prices and very friendly staff
Great food I'll definitely be back
very cute place. we grabbed a small bite here and the sushi was great. service is prompt! highly recommend:)
We had a large table and the food /service was awesome!
We ordered from there for the first time and it will definitely be the last. I ordered chicken ramen and it was disgusting. Very bland, tasted like dirt, the chicken was dry and the mushrooms tasted like they were never cleaned. I also ordered the coconut shrimp. It was ok, a little over cooked. The only good thing about my meal was the taro custard I got and it wasn’t even what I originally ordered. My boyfriend got the chicken pad Thai and he also said it was flavorless but more edible than my ramen.
The food was amazing, great service. I would refer this place to anyone!!
This was an amazing place to eat, with great dishes that I have never had before. But be warned if they say spicy, it means spicy
I adore Sun Cuisines! Their menu is full of vegan and vegetarian options; even if you are unsure about something, the staff is willing to answer any questions and modify a dish to be made vegan.
Edit: I am sad to say I had to bring this down from a five star review. Their quality and level of service has gone extremely downhill the last two times I’ve been. Severe delays in our food coming out led to some of our party having finished their meals before others even got theirs in front of them. The food has become bland, lacking the bold spices and flavors I enjoyed in the past. Even the amount of your chosen protein has gone down to just a handful of pieces. It really makes me sad as I have greatly enjoyed Sun, but clearly something has changed for the worse.
Ok. Nothing great. I have had much better pad thais. Portion size also smaller.
My favorite. Staff is so nice and friendly. And food is always 10/10. Thank you for many great meals and more in the future :)
Their menu has so many different options and everything I’ve had (most recently Pineapple Boat w/chicken) has been delicious. I highly recommend Sun!
I ordered Ramen with pork. It came with no pork. How can you possibly forget to put in the pork? My wife had Pad Thai. She found one peanut in the peanut sauce. The broth was supposed to be soy flavor, but it had no flavor. I'm from not too far out of town so no use complaining; they will only say they will "try to do better." If you like bland Asian fusion, this is your place.
Excellent food. Super friendly staff. Elevates common Thai, Burmese, Japanese and Asian fusion dishes with beautiful plating and high quality ingredients.
I have gotten here many times and the foorld was fabulous, this time not do much, the food was cold when I got home and I was early picking it up, so it must have sat there for a while. Don't know if I will try again $17 for general too chicken and white rice, I can get a whole combo for 13 or 14 elsewhere and it will be hot and half way decent
We went to Sun Cuisines on Saturday night and enjoyed a beautiful delicious dinner. The service was very quick.
Tried to call to order dinner at 9pm google states they close at 10pm but they kept hanging up on me and couldn’t order through their website.
Great!
This was an amazing experience! My family and I have a lot of food restrictions, and they were incredibly accommodating. Not only did we get our food in a timely manner, while they had a party of 15 and ONE server, the food was excellent!! We got a total of six dishes for only $77 and the portion size was large. I have never written a review before, but this place is too good to pass up!
Atmosphere was calm and peaceful and the spring rolls were out before the meal
Ordered Panang Curry chicken sauce was very watered down not like it used to be .
Cut up half a duck had almost no meat and definitely no breast at all
OMG the black rice salad. I could eat it every day. We also had the crispy shrimp and crab rolls. Excellent!
Food was great, service was great and helped me with my dish, atmosphere was good but nothing over the top but very clean.
Food is very good, but our server was very distracted, talking with the owner or some other person for at least 45 minutes, actually had to interrupt the conversation to get service. I wanted to order more food, I had to signal our server because was too busy to check on our table, the place only had 2 tables occupied and our table was one of the occupied ones. I will question what the service is like if the place was busy. We will try the restaurant again only because the food was so good.
Food was old and taste bad so we didn't finish
Food was delicious, had the softshell crab appetizer and it was fresh out of the fryer. The main course was the beef curry and it was amazing! Will be coming back again. The restaurant was not busy and had a very relaxed feeling that I liked.
Great food not much atmosphere. There were 6 in our party and server missed one of the orders and had to reorder.
1st time there. Service slow, but friendly, med was too spicey
Cold, unslated panang dish. Ordered with tofu, came without. When I asked about it they brought cold fried tofu on the side.
This is the best Thai/Burmese place I’ve been to in Buffalo. I always get the duck Pad Thai, but they also have great curries and sushi! Try the golden squid rings (calamari) they are awesome! They are consistent and always delicious. They also have a lot of options for people with dietary restrictions clearly labeled on the menu. Top 3 favorite places to eat in western New York.
Absolutely disgusting. The waitress was kind, but beyond scattered the whole time. She forgot our drinks the entire time, after we had already asked for the check she finally came back and said she didn't have the drinks we originally asked for so she could bring us different ones and we accepted. Then she came back with the drinks and check at a certain amount, we gave her the card, she took the card and check. When she came back she had charged us a HIGHER AMOUNT because SHE forgot to put the drinks on the check initially. But she didn't mention it until she returned the check and card that she had already charged for the higher amount.
I would never recommend this place to anyone. I've been to many obscure sushi places in lots of different areas of the country and this is by far the worst. Much worse than gas station sushi.
Delicious food and a warm, comfy ambience. The online ordering at table (pay in advance) is really convenient. The staff are all friendly and the food came promptly. I used to eat at their place all the time when they were down at the defunct EXPO Market, but I can definitely say it's just as great at the "home" location.
They deserve the great reviews, you must go and try it yourself. Our favorite destination for a celebration or a special date because the food and presentation are unlike any other. When our food was taking a bit longer, a manager came over to inform us of what caused the wait and to say it would be a bit longer. That personal touch went a long way.
Very nice atmosphere and service. The sticky black rice dishes are really good.
First time back since covid. Food good but not as exceptional as I remember. Pad gapow not anything like gapow in Thailand.
The pad kee Mao was very good.
The food was great 👍👍
I love this place. So many options. The best part is it’s always empty at lunch time :)

Stay away! The food is trash and wouldn’t give you the thai food experience!
Take out only. It was my second time trying Burmese food, first time on the East Coast. I got their wide noodles and pumpkin curry, and mango sushi (mainly bc I was intrigued). They use what’s referred to in Vietnamese food as purple rice and appreciate the nutritional value. My favorite was the wide noodles, the flavor, texture and spice level was balance- with savory and tangy. They use vata beans which I liked learning about. For the curry, I liked how big the pumpkin chunks were, but found it a bit too oily for my preference. The mango sushi was interesting looking and had more of a dessert flavor than savory.
I was touched by the customer service when picking up my food. The waiter was warm and genuine and was accommodating when I had an issue with the order. I love supporting ethnic food businesses, especially underrepresented cuisines like Burmese food!
The
One of my favorites in the city right now! The traditional Burmese dish with noodles!
This was awesome!! Love the black rice, it was such a unique combination and I love the ability to get black and white options. I also got the black rice appetizer which was sweet and yummy. Staff was so kind and attentive
Good food. Love the various selections. The black rice and rolls are s9me.of my favorite. The General Tso chicken was good but lacking a little zing. Overall a great dining experience
Papaya salad is wonderful!
I recommend the Pad Thai or Prar Ram, spicy level 3. The kitchen times are usually running around 10 mins. You'll get a huge plate of food for your money. The wait staff will give you your space and will not bother you every 5 mins. This is nice if you have company with you because your conversation will not get interrupted frequently.
Food was great. staff wasn't very attentive
Great place to go eat, black rice sushi rolls are off the charts good, waiter couldn't have been more polite
When I have visitors from out of town, this is a go-to. Their black rice is sooooo amazing. Everything is fresh and unique. I'm in love with their food!!! Tons of healthy choices!!!
We had a vegetarian meal for two. We started with breaded and fried gourd and fried dumplings, then had a great pumpkin soup and wide noodles. Everything was well-seasoned and fresh.
My first time but not my last. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very clean and peaceful. We had sushi, tea leaf salad and beef curry. All the dishes were beautiful and delicious.
Absolutely delicious! The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. The black rice salad was so flavorful and everyone I dined with really enjoyed their meal. Restaurant is very clean and the staff are very friendly and attentive. This was my first visit after a friend recommended the restaurant, and I will definitely be coming back.
My daughter and I love coming here regularly. Food and service is always great. Sushi is great and her favorite is Pad Kapow. Highly recommend!
Got seated , sat for 20 minutes, nobody would wait us, tooo bad
I don't know what it is the last 2 times I went service slow or non existent food was not very good was very disappointed used to be my go to for sushi.
The food was delicious, ginger tea was made from scratch with real ginger. The waiter was funny and friendly. We will definitely be coming back.
Food is so good here! Love the ambiance as well, great date spot. Also our waiter (I forget his name) was hilarious, always cracking jokes as he walked by, love it! Highly recommend 👍👍
Terrible experience. Edamame cold ( should at least be warm from steaming. Vegetable dumplings cold ( no explanation needed). Sushi: Soft shell crab mushy , not crispy from just being fried, spicy tuna and eel rolls were okay. Music was Christian...and bad Christian. The menus had no prices on them. I should have walked out but I Ubered there and it's in the middle of nowhere Niagara Street...my fault. It serves sushi and when I asked for low sodium soy they brought me packets.... packets. Waste of money and time. Don't waste yours.
Food was delicious. Service was great. So many options! Finding this gem means the husband and I have date night locked down for months 😄 definitely come check it out!
Steve is a great waiter.
Everything and I mean everything is good in thos restaurant. You won't be disappointed
Sorry. Just not able to turn tables at lunch as one chef and one host/waiter. For those that it impacts, use msg in recipes.
I like the burmese flat wide Noodle, and all the fried rice with thai/Burmese tasted. Recommended restaurant!!
The food here was great, and the spice level was perfect for each person. I will absolutely go back. The speed of the service seemed a little slow. We had plenty of time so it was fine, but if you're in a rush during a weekday lunch, this wouldn't be a good choice.
We had their appetizer combo, tea leaf salad--a favorite--some sushi and sashimi, a curry, and some dim sum in the combo. This cuisine ranges from Indian-influenced Burmese in the West to Japanese in the East and touching on everything in between. And all terrific. One of the quieter restaurants in Buffalo!
Delicious
This is great place we got recommended by our AirBnB host. They serve a wide variety of dishes that are influenced by Burmese and Thai flavours. We had such a joy eating here we would definitely come back. Not to expensive, great portions friendly staff. Can’t do much better!
I ordered online with a 4 pm pickup. I arrived a few minutes before 4 and was told it was almost ready. My order was ready at 4:35. When I asked why it took so long I was told not to order during shift change. I asked why those times were available and did not receive an answer. For food this expensive I expect better service. It will be a long time before I order again. Other options are available.
We had a great experience here. We ordered the burmese beef curry and pumpkin stew and they were both tasty. The pumpkin stew wasn't served in an actual green pumpkin as it said in the dish so that was a bit of a disappointment. They portions of the food is huge so you'll definitely be leaving on a full stomach. The pricing is pretty average I would say. Our server was friendly and really chill. There were very rude customers on the other side of the room and he handled them the best he could.
Salty curry. Greasy food. Long wait times.
First time going , recommend. Will go again.
Tom yum soup was one of the best I've had in a while.
Our lunch stop on the way back from Niagara Falls, searching for something near freeway and not Italian ;)
It was the perfect place. Food was flavorful and not too heavy. Everyone enjoyed. My 5 yr old picky eater not only ordered her own but finished her dumplings :) The server was very kind to listen to her and bring her the apple juice, although they don’t normally serve it. Thank u 🙏
God bless you and hope u keep serving the good food and make people healthy and happy.
Oh and did I mention how reasonable the food was!
Love all food from Sun Cuisine
I went for takeout to bring home after work. I was getting out early so it was around 3pm.
Sun has a decent parking lot, which is nice for Niagara street. Upon opening the door you are faced with a wall and a decision to go left (to restaurant) or right (to bathrooms) however there was either no sign or the smallest sign ever since I didn't see one and was unsure. I guessed left and came out to the host station.
The place looked ok and the sushi bar looked cool but nobody was there. Everyone was in the kitchen and there was no bell so I waited. It was about a 3-4 min wait before someone noticed me and came out to help. I understand it was prep time for the dinner rush but I walked in on time for when the order was said to be ready. I was also the only customer there as there was nobody inside and only one other car in the lot which I assume was a worker car.
The one worker I talked to was nice and professional. I got my food and left. I didn't get anything sushi related as I see that as in-restaurant food over takeout. It was regular Chinese-takeout quality. It was good but really expected better after reading about the owners/chef. I know this is not Chinese food (I tried Burmese and Thai) either but people need to be able to evaluate and this is the best comparison I could think of.
I will say it was my fault for ordering the paratha bread and expecting it to be good like described. It tasted fine but wasn't flaky at all but doughy. That was probably due to the car ride and condensation. The curry it came with was better cold than warm.
Overall, I would try dine-in for the sushi but the prices as a takeout place for the quality of food isn't worth it. $5 for a Thai iced tea seems steep but maybe that's what inflation does.
Had their Tom Yam and Japanese ramen, very generous in quantity but quality was not compromised at all, highly recommend.
There was a very large party when we went. The servers were on point and the service speedy, despite the kitchen and staff having their hands full. Everyone in the restaurant was taken care of from the looks of it. The food was cooked to perfection. The spicy dishes were full of flavor. Every single dish we ordered was delicious.
A Buffalo classic. Always good
Green curry and tea leaf salad was fantastic. Highly recommend.
The food here has to be made from some of the best quality ingredients you can find. I have a fresh spring rolls obsession and have never, in all my years of eating fresh spring rolls, had spring rolls as good as the ones the make here. I mean wow!
Their menu features an expansive wine/alcoholic beverage selections but I got the Thai iced tea. For my meal, I went with the drunken noodles and when it came out, I saw the slice or orange and thought “citrus with drunken noodles? Interesting”.
Much to my surprise the orange does a great job of brightening up the dish. I’m excited to visit again so I can try more of their offerings.
Oh service is superb, much like the food. Don’t miss out on this place.
Definitely good food and very friendly service
Always good quality dinners.
Awesome food , great atmosphere, reasonably priced meals , great staff 😋 I highly recommend this place !!!!!
Yaki Udon was a disappointment as it doesn't have enough flavor. But the Tuna Tataki Salad was excellent - crunchy Tuna on the outside, raw sashimi style on the inside. But the best was the Taro Custard. Very heavenly taste with or without Ice Cream. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Customer service was not the best. Waited half hour before someone came to take our drink order and waited another hour for the food where some of the dishes came out cold. The food itself was ok but not worth the prices. There are way better Thai restaurants to choose from.
Outstanding Burmese vegetarian and gluten free meals for us during our lunch stop.
By far the mixed vegetable Curry outshined our lemongrass-based beef curry dish. Both meals were great, we just preferred the vegetable curry flavoring more.
Also know you will have enough food to go home with as a second meal.
The food here is good but lately the customer service has fallen off badly, twice this past week I have called the Niagara street location to place a pick up order, someone answers but tells me to call back in five minutes because they’re busy, I call back and no one answers, pretty unprofessional.
Long wait
Amazingly good swap and share dishes!
Today was disappointing...
The vegetable soup was tasteless and the sauce too watery.
i got the pad thai, without fish in the sauce. did not like the flavor, was very different than other pad thai Ive had without fish in the sauce. it had a lot of spices but just a very different flavor... and not any peanut flavor. noodles were kinda all stuck together in a big clump. also got the paratha bread with chicken curry sauce. did not like the sauce, the flavor just didnt appeal to me, but the bread was delicious. they should sell that separately as an option without the curry. it was fried and veryyy greasy, but so stretchy and flaky and delicious- the bread gets 5 stars on its own.
Great food!
The food was delicious! Take out service was easy and the staff is very kind.
Excellence and Professional,
I love it. They have interesting food. It's not just Asian but the flavors are somewhat different and interesting. The service is great. I'm always satisfied.
Great experience Everytime! 👍
The food was delicious, but the service slow.
Yummm
Dining in Sun Cuisines is a must when you visit Buffalo, NY! Black rice sushi is super delicious.
The food was really great. It was tasty and very filling. And I loved the black rice, that was the best!
We enjoyed the delicious asian food there. Black rice sushi is unique and very tasteful. You won’t find it in other sushi restaurants. They have all popular Asian dishes including South East Asian food. We will definitely try again once we have a chance. Highly recommended!!!
Such good food and incredible service.
Had a DELICIOUS meal there earlier this week. Our group were 5...the service was slow, but we understand that at this time. The food was awesome! Everyone enjoyed their meal....Would not hesitate to go back! Nice quiet atmosphere, which is great for my husband, as he uses hearing aids. Thank you and keep up the same standards!
Update: Someone pointed out that restaurants are shorthanded because they can't get help since Covid started so I'm feeling guilty. I won't be going back but maybe the issue was a staffing shortage they can't control. Original post: Took my kids to celebrate a success one had recently. Have been here an hour and drink order isn't here yet.
Excellent service, food and very clean
First customers at 5.
15 minute wait was almost 30 minutes.
Chicken Curry was flat. Burmese food is usually complex.
Super good quality food, clean restaurant, with terrific bathrooms. This place is a solid choice for Asian food! I highly recommend to the crowd looking for items beyond general Tso's chicken (though they have that too).
