What a wonderful hidden gem. I can't remember the last time I had Thai food so fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is very clean, minimalist, and calming. The food was savory, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable. We went twice that week and I can't wait to go again. Try the puffs, and this was the best vegetable soup I've ever had.

This lunch was such a pleasant surprise. The waitress was very knowledgeable and suggested two of their lunch specials; I picked the Minced Chicken Basil. It was pleasantly spicy with complex flavors, excellent with brown rice. I treated myself to an amazing dessert: specially prepared mango with sticky rice. This is an excellent Thai restaurant if you're in the area.

This is all about the food and Chang Thai kitchen is the best in the toms River area.

Update on April 10, 2024. I finally got to physically come here and totally enjoyed my evening. I had a couple the wife 64 and the husband 71 come back-and-forth from their table to talk and she would sit right next to me on the bench seating is casual conversation Very strange. I had never had that before.

I had the duck rainbow very delicious combination of cherry tomatoes, curry half a duck onions peppers I had it Thai spicy. And it was good and also had their fried dumplings which I believe our chicken thigh, but quite good crispy and tender they should be so I raise the rating to five because the service was outstanding. She would come and check on everybody, right amount of times and about five minutes after that, the customer had tried some things she would ask extremely helpful. She did not give me her name, a point off for that but otherwise incredible service, good and unexpected company and some nice pictures to go along the commentary enjoy, the photos too Going with the red curry and duck is fantastic. The eggplant stirfry dishes and massive menu Makes this a place that if you enjoy Thai food, then you’ll find something every time and could probably spend years going through their menu without exaggeration.

This is near where my wife works, so it’s always been a takeout place for us. But to satisfying my need for heat they add a small container of extra spice so I can make it my own heat level. That’s a nice touch.

The only downfall to me seems for a three dollar container of coconut rice. They are not packing the containers very full, barely half and at that price it should be full.

We have never dined in here, but my wife says it’s comfortable inside. I’ll update with photos when we can dine in.

Nice roomie dining rooms And ambient music playing helps keep the noise down. This goes right toward the top of the have to try eateries. With two mango drinks, real mango, five small fried dumplings with Ponsou sauce and duck rainbow with a mixture of crispy vegetables. Serious winner.

AND THEN THERE IS THE LEFTOVERS

i’m very pleased to say that the leftovers reheated beautifully and boy felt more spicy today than last night. Good combination with the jasmine rice and the duck rainbow.

Everything I ordered was delicious down to the ice coffee and the desserts. We had ice coffee, grilled marinated chicken in peanut sauce, Tom Yum shrimp soup,jasmine rice and coconut rice, vegetarian sample platter, and the fried sea bass platter. So tasty and delicious you must try this place!!!! 5 of 5 stars acrosed the board.

Food is good but $11 for mango sticky rice????? Literally 1/4 of a cup of rice & 1/4 of a mango for $11???

Enjoyable experience with good food

I have been searching for a Thai restaurant that serves kao soi with crunchy noodles for over 10 years. They have it and it was better then wonderful! What a wonderful restaurant...I almost hate to share...it was that delicious!

Think she forgot to put the order in or something. People are eating that came in after I ordered. The crab fried rice wasn’t bad but it had nothing to it. It was very lightly seasoned to not seasoned. The Pad Thai was fine. Maybe I’m used to NNJ food

Not so great of an experience because we got to the restaurant at 8:35pm since they close at 9:30pm. My fam and I work 7 days a week for 14 hours. So it's hard to come sooner. And I understand that restaurant ppl work super hard to and want to go home when time comes. My grandma who is 90yrs old wanted Thai food, and there's none by us in south Jersey so we found the closest one (40mins out) which was this one. They didn't let us sit. They said they close the inside dining by 9pm. It wasn't even 9pm tho. All restaurants we've gone to make exceptions and accommodate. They didn't want to do anything even tho we waited at the restaurant for 30 minutes when we could have started eating the appetizer (1 order or spring roll). They need to put this on their website because ppl are traveling to come to you and my grandma who has trouble walking and doesn't go out much came with us. All for us to end up eating our meals in the car. We're fine with it. But it's not comfy for my grandma to eat in the car.... on the flip side-- food was DELICIOUS so definitely recommend them. Just call them prior if you plan on dining in and it's past 8:30pm.

The cook (I think) gave us 2 water bottles on the house for free when I went inside to ask for water after we were done eating

Drunken noodles are delicious. Be aware of the dumplings. I had a chunk of bone in mine and almost ripped out a filling.

Duck was very very dry poor barely touched sent back. Poor waitress was told by manager they cooked it so still have to pay. Told waitress to send out Manager. He did not come out to even apologize that the meal was unsatisfactory. The manager should put on an apron again instead of hiding in the kitchen. She gave us dirty looks from the kitchen. ALWAYS APOLOGIZE TO A CUSTOMER IF THE FOOD IS PREPARED POORLY and unacceptable. Waitress was WONDERFUL PPPPPPPPPPPPP

Used to love coming here but came here for Mother’s Day with the whole family. It took them 1 hour and 30 minutes to just serve our soup… I get that they’re busy and blamed the cooking time on the fish. The little ones were hungry and ate plain rice while waiting for their food since service was so slow. We got here at 6:50 and didn’t eat til 8:40. They were fulfilling delivery/ takeout orders first before dine in.

Also they really skipped on the ingredients. Like SHRIMP CURRY ONLY HAD 4 PIECES OF SHRIMP I COUNTED!!

😡Very bad experience, my daughter took me to this restaurant on Mother's Day, we arrived at 6:50, it was not busy, plus we were the only two tables, we waited for almost two hours, and we were not served until we complained, as an Asian, the food was unpalatable, very sweet and sour, and a mandatory 20% tip was charged when paying the bill! Never coming back!😡

Six years ago, I reviewed this location when it was known as Siam Spice. Now under new ownership and christened Chang Thai Kitchen, I felt compelled to revisit and update my opinion. Unfortunately, my recent experiences haven't quite met my expectations.

The curry, usually a star of the show, falls short. It lacks the depth and complexity I've come to associate with well-crafted Thai curries. While decent, it's thin and underwhelming, especially considering the $18.50 price tag. In fact, I managed to create a more satisfying version at home using pantry staples from Hmart.

I understand some prefer the convenience of dining out, and sourcing specific ingredients isn't for everyone. However, considering their unique position as the sole Thai option in town, the current offering feels like a missed opportunity. I can't shake the feeling they might be dialing down the effort or relying on their position to justify the price and quality.

Here's hoping:

Chang Thai Kitchen has the potential to be a local favorite, but the curry needs significant improvement. Deeper flavor profiles, richer broth bases, and a focus on authenticity would do wonders. Additionally, adjusting portion sizes or pricing to better reflect the current offering could improve value perception.

Overall, while promising, Chang Thai Kitchen needs to refine its culinary game to truly win over discerning Thai food lovers.

Yummy food. I ordered the pad thai and red curry and they were delicious. Authentic Thai food is hard to find in Ocean County and this place hits the spot! Everything was good quality, from the ingredients to the napkins, chopsticks, and takeaway bags. Staff were nice and friendly. Would come again :)

Chang's is amazing! We had a variety of appetizers, which were all very good. Flavors were tasty and varied, Chicken Satay, Crispy Shrimp Rolls and Spareribs. We both had the Red Curry Shrimp, which was one of the best we have ever had! Shrimp Tempura appetizer special I was td was delicious. And the Paradise Fried Rice with Shrimp was also a hit. From our first bite, to our last, (I took some home), everything was absolutely delicious! Staff was very pleasant and attentive, atmosphere was peaceful and prices were reasonable. We will definitely return here again!

We enjoyed the Mussaman curry with added pineapple, and Tom Ka soup, which were both excellent. The potatoes and carrots and tofu were done perfectly and everything was delicious. Will definitely be coming back. Also enjoy the atmosphere.

I have been driving past Chang Thai for quite some time and finally decided to give it a try. All I can say is WOW!! Our meal was absolutely delicious. I had the duck red curry with white rice. The duck was crispy on the outside yet juicy on the inside and the red curry…I could drink it all up! My husband had the seafood red curry which was equally delicious. If you like green tea, you have to try the Thai iced green tea. I can’t wait to come back!

This is an anti (opposite reality) review, because I don't want everyone to know about this gem of a restaurant. Then it'll just get crowded and we won't be able to get a table here when we want...

So, their food is basic, bland and tasteless, everything is just like what you'll find in every other asian-themed restaurant. It's overpriced and the dishes are these little tiny portions dwarfed by the huge plates; and the atmosphere is dull and sterile. Oh, and on top of it all the servers are rude and arrogant.

Solid: Chicken Green Curry, Papaya Salad, Pineapple Tofu fried rice, Chicken Satay, vegan tom kha soup, tea, dessert all fantastic, waitress was great also.

This is an excellent Thai restaurant. Everything I’ve ordered has been fantastic. It is a small mom and pop shop where the owner is the chef and puts obvious care and talent into each order. The waitresses are very friendly and knowledgeable. It is the best Thai place I’ve found in the area. Definitely check it out.

This is the first time in a long time that I asked for spicy food and they made it spicy without me having to beg or bargain. Everything was delicious, and it came out quickly and perfectly cooked.
The most important, the dishes that we ask to be spicy were really Thai style spicy. I can't remember the last time I didn't have to add some extra hotness to a Thai Dish, but this was the real deal!

Loved it. Ordered to go but nice inside. Great authentic food at a good value.

Living in NYC I have the best Thai food to select from, but nothing comes close to this place. Everytime I visit my parents in Toms River this is a mandatory go to place. Everything is good, fresh and spicey as you would expect. This is a locals hideaway, but it's a sin more people don't know about this place. It's worth the 90 minute drive every trip from the city.

Disappointed for the price. We gave this place a try cause the reviews were good and the food just isn’t good. We got the Thai basil rice and it was super dry and had NO basil. My shrimp pad Thai was dry and only had 4 pieces of shrimp for $15. As someone else put, with no other competition around, you’re better off going more north if you want authentic Thai food. This place is very amateur.

I am super disappointed and won’t be ordering from here again but it is cute inside. Maybe they were having a bad night.

Chang Thai Kitchen is on the same level (maybe even better than my place in New York). THE CURRY PUFFS ARE AMAZING. The pad Thai is SO YUMMY. Highly recommend:)

The food was really good. They need to step up their byob service and atleast put stuff on ice or offer to keep it chilled.

Have been a huge lover of Thai food for years. Lived in Chicago for 25 years and had a favorite go to place. Tried a few here in Jersey and they were so-so. Went to Chang Thai last weekend with some friends and the food was outstanding! Had the chicken Panang curry that was delish! The service was excellent. The food was just awesome. By far the best cooked jasmine rice I’ve ever had. Highly recommend! Beat my Chicago place!

just got takeout my wife ordered shrimp w/green curry i tried beef wok in peanut sauce asked for it thai spicy. they did not disappoint.

We found everything to be overly sweet and not like any other Thai I’ve ever had. The Tom ka soup was so overly sweet my girlfriend couldn’t finish it (a first). Both of our entrees were also sweet even though they were completely different dishes. No heat at all as you normally get with Thai. Generally you get very separate and fresh flavors from Thai, not here. It was very amateur like every sauce was stewed and they just add in the protein before serving. For this area where there is only one other competitor you might think this is proper Thai. I say go up north and try it and you’ll see what I mean. 1 & done for us.

I used to buy food here before the change in ownership and still do now. They have delicious pad thai - my favorite in the area after trying several different Thai restaurants. The staff are always polite as well. I have enjoyed both dining in the restaurant and ordering takeout from here over the years.

Bummer we never got to try the food here, since the ratings looked good. Even so, the customer service was too terrible to not post a review. I ordered through Door Dash, and showed up to pick up 5 mins after my scheduled “ready for pickup” time. I gave my name to the hostess and after waiting 10 minutes with no update (and about 5 other guests coming in, one of which was screamed at by the hostess, being told “to learn to speak English”) I asked for an update. The hostess asked me if my name was something else, and then retrieved my ticket saying that all the other guests would be served before me and it would be an additional hour, so I could wait or cancel. Since the other guests had placed orders after me, had arrived after me, and since I ordered 45 mins prior and already waited 15 mins, I asked the hostess to cancel my order. She did not, but Door Dash kindly did. With health and safety being a concern, I was disappointed to have been asked to stay in the restaurant for 20 minutes only to have no food. I would not recommend this place based on my own experience, and also the way I saw them treat other customers during my time there.

We got takeout during the quarantine. Everything was amazing. I especially loved the Drunken Noodles and the Satay chicken appetizer. The peanut sauce and coconut rice were also very good. Will definitely order again!

Having recently moved down to South Jersey from Bergen County I was finding it difficult to find any good Thai options in the area until
I found this gem of a place via social media. Their Pad Thai, vegetable dumplings, Red Curry and Pad See-EW were all spot on!! If you like Thai food and appreciate good food this is the place to try!!

Green curry is Very good! I get mine extra spicy with shrimp and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend

I’ve eaten at plenty of Thai restaurants and this place is hands down my favorite! So happy it’s in Toms River too. Great service amazing food! I’m super happy!

We frequent this byob restaurant quite a bit! I love everything I get! I recommend trying the appetizer ribs, they are amazing!!! This is one of my favorite places locally to eat. We also had Tom ka soup (amazing).

We went for the first time in late afternoon on a Sunday and had the place to ourselves. The hostess / waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We had the edamame appetizer then the Drunken Noodle with Shrimp and the Wok Ginger with Shrimp for our main courses. The food was delicious! The Drunken Noodle was hot and spicy as described and full of flavor. The Wok Ginger had just the right tang and zing of fresh cooked ginger. In both dishes the shrimp were large, plentiful and cooked just right. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will most certainly go again.

Pineapple Curry with Jasmine rice was delicious.

Food was amazing, the dining room was spotless, curry puffs and koa soi were highlights! Thai coffee and fried banana ice cream were delicious as well.

Great food, great atmosphere, Nikki guided us to some great choices. Enjoyable all around.

I was uncertain about what to expect after reading the reviews after the change in ownership several months ago, but the more recent ones convinced me to give it a try. The food was freshly prepared, tasty and delicious. It is reasonably priced and the portions are decent. I will certainly be going back to try their other menu offerings.

Decided to try this place with my boyfriend as they had just opened up recently, food was delicious! Very beautiful inside and the service was great. I highly recommend trying them out.

Yum! Food was so delicious, everything seemed fresh and was super tasty. Staff was really nice as well. Appetizer sampler had a little bit of everything on it and was awesome and the entrees were fantastic as well. Will definitely be going back.

SO GOOD! The best Thai food I have had in a LONG TIME! I ordered the Tom Yum soup and the Drunken Noodles lunch special. Everything including the salad that came with it was AMAZING and CRAVE-worthy. Our server was attentive and sweet as well. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I have been going to Siam Spice for several years. The restaurant was sold last summer and we were not back until last night. Chang Thai Kitchen, the new name, took a good restaurant and made it great! The food was tasty on the hot side but delicious! We are so pleased with the new chef and owners that we are planning our next visit! “Bravo” Chang Thai Kitchen!

Had a delicious meal here last night. Only one person working the restaurant - seating guests, answering the phone, taking orders, delivering food, etc... AND the service was attentive and kind. Yellow curry and drunken noodles were very tasty and the food came out piping hot. Had been to this location for Thai in the past when it was Siam Spice and that's why we came back. Will be back again. Highly recommend.

Was sad sian spice was no longer there but was pleasantly surprised at how great chang Thai was. Server was friendly. Appetozer sampler was delicious. Both entrees my wife and i had were perfect. Duck was crispy and cooked just right. Will definitely be back.

Service was excellent. They were very diligent and making sure we had everything we needed. Husband and I share the appetizer sampler which was delicious. I ordered a fried rice dish my husband ordered a noodle bowl. Both were good. The best part of the meal was the desert which was the Sweet Sticky coconut rice with mango. That was the hit of the evening.
